Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The text: he knoweth the way that I take
- Job goes forward and backward, on the left hand and on the right, and cannot perceive him — but he knoweth the way that I take; when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
- His subject: when all I have is a thought — the place of believing God while lost and confused.
Scriptures: Job 23:8-10
Faith is a fight, not a flight
- The worst place to be with God is a state of confusion, where the relationship is intact but what he is doing is unclear.
- Faith does not mean it gets easy; sometimes the honest answer is 'I just don't know,' and your I-don't-knows are safe with God.
- Many walk away from God in the season of confusion because they cannot believe he would allow it.
- He retells Job's losses: in one day servants, possessions, and children were taken, and Job blessed the name of the Lord instead of cursing God.
Though he slay me, yet will I trust him
- Stripped in body and covered with boils, Job's answer is the sermon's refrain: though he slay me, yet will I trust him.
- Job would not take his wife's counsel to curse God and die, nor his friends' explanations of his suffering.
- Trust him in the bad times and in the good times; if he brought me this far, he will see me through the rest.
- When God is not answering now, go back to the word he spoke last, because his word will not return void.
Don't lose your seek
- 23 chapters later Job is still seeking: I went forward and he wasn't there; I looked to my left and to my right, and I kept seeking.
- Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and the other things will be added; whatever you do, don't lose your prayer life, your fasting, or your worship.
- He closes in an altar movement of prayer, urging the church to draw nigh to God and let him restore their seek.
Scripture index: Job 23:8-10.

Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Come on, give the Lord a shout of praise in this place tonight. Thank you, Jesus. From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same. If you know him to be that, can you clap your hands together one more time? Amen. Oh, come on. I I I really mean that tonight. Can Can you clap your hands tonight? Oh, hallelujah. Oh, hallelujah. You may be seated in Jesus name. What a fellowship. What a joy divine leaning on his everlasting arms. Amen. I honor the Lord tonight. Amen. The oldtimer said it like this. I'm thankful to be saved, sanctified, Holy Ghost filled, and firebaptized. And I don't know about you, but in 27 years of living, I'm thankful that I know who he is. I'm thankful that I got the gift of the Holy Ghost. I know they try to tell you it's optional, but I dare you to look over at your neighbor for the first time tonight and tell them, say, "Neighbor, I'm thankful I got the Holy Ghost." Oh, come on. I'm thankful I got the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in another tongue. What did he say? Nicodemus, you can't inherit the kingdom of God unless she be born of the water and of the spirit. Or you can't. Come on, somebody. We're here on a Sunday night. We might as well have revival. Is there anybody that's thankful you got the Holy Ghost? You've been buried in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, come on. I can't help I can't help but to hear Granny. She said, "I never shall forget the day when all the burdens of my soul were rode away. It made me happy. So glad." Why? Because when I was buried in the name. Come on. Uh I laid off that old coat. Uh and I put on the new. It changed the way I walked. It changed the way I talked. Come on. Uh it'll make you walk right. Uh it'll make you talk right. Uh it'll make you spill white. Come on, somebody. Clap your hands together if you're thankful to be saved. Amen. We honor the Lord. We honor the Lord. Who wouldn't serve a God like this? I said, who wouldn't serve a God like this? Amen. We look all across our world and it seems as if churches are dying. But can I tell you, churches that are still growing, come on. in the middle of 2026. Consecrated churches, holiness churches, apostolic churches. Come on here. Are you thankful to be a part? Oh, come on. I said, are you thankful to be a part? This ain't a way. This is the only way. She does not stand behind him, but beside him. And we thank God. Amen. We are better. Amen. Because of the likes of Bishop Carpenter and First Lady. And we surely honor the Lord for them. We honor the Lord for Pastor Ericson and Sister Ericson. Come on, clap your hands together for them. We we appreciate wholeheartedly. Amen. Pastor Hammond and Lady Hammond. Come on, clap your hands. Y'all ain't clapping loud enough for me. The Bible said the men are worthy, but not just worthy, but to give them double honor. Amen. And we give them double honor. We give honor. Amen. to Pastor Nolan and Sister Flannry. Come on, clap your hands together for them. And I surely I surely give honor. Amen. To my bride. Amen. Sister Nullles. I thank God for her tonight. And to our two baby girls, I honor the Lord for Lilac and Juniper. Amen. and what they mean to us. Amen. And surely we honor the Lord. Amen. For this praise team. Oh, come on. What about this praise team and these musicians? Amen. Amen. We honor the Lord. Honor the Lord for this praise team. We thank God for these musicians. Amen. Grab your Bibles quickly. I don't tend to be before you long, but I heard one elder years ago. He said, "The difference between a good preacher and a God preacher is a good preacher can speak with great rhetoric, but a God preacher can stay in the vein of what God's doing." And I want to do my best tonight to stay in the flow of what God's doing around here. at FAC Marvel. And I believe the spirit of the Lord is going to talk to us tonight if we have an ear to hear what the spirit of the Lord wants to say unto the church. The book of Job, the book of Job, chapter 23, verse number eight. While you're navigating that, find three people better looking than you tonight and tell them it's good to see you on a Sunday night. Oh, come on. Find three people better looking than you and tell them it's good to see you on a Sunday night. Come on. Some of y'all didn't look at nobody. If you can't find nobody, better look and find somebody looking and tell them it's good to see you on a Sunday night. Amen. I heard one man say, "I searched all over and couldn't find nobody." Amen. Amen. Job chapter 23 verse 8. When you have it, signify by shouting, I have the bread. >> And the Bible now gave us this intelligence. Behold, I go forward, but he is not there. and backward but I cannot perceive him on the left hand where he doth work but I cannot behold him. He hideth himself on the right hand that I cannot see him but he knoweth the way that I take when he hath tried me I shall come forth as gold. May the Lord add a blessing to the reading and the hearing of his word. Set your Bibles down, set your devices down, lift your hands, and lift your voice one more time. And let's ask the Holy Ghost to talk to us for the next few fleeting moments. Father, Savior, God, before we ask you for anything, we thank you for everything. We thank you for the gift of the Holy Ghost. We thank you for your power divine. We thank you that last night was not our last night. But God, we thank you that you're able to do exceeding abundantly above all we could think or ask according to the power that workketh in us. Lord, I pray what I pray every time. Hide me behind the cross of Calvary. Lord, don't allow them to see brother nose, but let them see you high and lifted up. And in the next few moments, Lord, I pray that your glory manifest itself amongst your people. Lord, let your word do the work. Let it get deep down in the marorrow of our bones tonight, Lord. That we could feel your presence and sense your spirit. Lord, we pray tonight, Lord, that if there be an individual that's lost without you, let them ask the question on a Sunday night, "What must I do to be saved?" Lord, we pray tonight that we could give them the antidote to repent and to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of all of their sin. Come on, Zion. Reach over and grab a neighbor by the hand. Lord, as we bind together with that neighbor tonight, Lord, we pray for yolks to be destroyed. We pray for minds to be regulated. We pray for miracles, signs, and wonders. Come on, Lord. As we bind together with our neighbor, Lord, let it be a sign that we're still holding on. We're holding on to your promise. We're holding on to your plan, Lord. We pray right now for miracles, signs, and wonders that touch each and every individual. And Lord, we pray God, if there be one that is seeking for the baptism of the Holy Ghost tonight, fill them with dunamis power. We thank you for souls that were baptized this morning. We thank you for souls that were filled with the Holy Ghost this morning. But God, we pray tonight that you do it again. because we know you to be a man of your word and we'll never fail to give you the praise, the glory, and the honor in Jesus' name. And the church of the living God can shout amen and amen. Clap your hands together like the devil's head is in between them as you're being seated in the house of the Lord. If I could preach to you for a few moments with the help of the Holy Ghost, I want to leave you with this thought. When all I have is though, when all I have is though, my brothers and sisters, I propose to you tonight that the worst place to be in with God is in a state of confusion or a place of delirium where you know your relationship with God is intact, but you're rather confused with what the Lord is doing in the moment. As we begin to look at our text, this is where God positions us right in the middle of Job's faith and confusion. Job is in a place where he's believing God while everything around him has him lost and confused. I want to take the moment in building my contextual evidence tonight for you to examine this paradox. He's believing God, but lost and confused. He's believing God, but lost and confused. I am persuaded that you haven't yet tapped into the hidden places in God until you have to believe God while being lost and confused in various seasons that are sent to develop you in your delirium. Our God brags that Job is the most mature and faithful of his believers. For Job faith in life are not adding up even though Job's faith has him in a mature place. According to God's recognition of him, Job feels as if his faith has left him dumbfounded. In a place where Job is believing God against all while all is against him. Many of us cannot exercise that level of faith due to allowing perplexities to cause us to run from God. Satan has tried our faith many times on numerous occasions. So many of us in the process of our faith being tried, we found oursel in a place of ruin. Instead of allowing our faith to be tested, we run to a place of anger. We blame God and we blame the church. But in reality, we must all understand tonight that faith means that it's not going to get easy. But faith means I must obtain assurityity in my fight of salvation. You have to understand that faith is a fight against your trouble, not a flight from your instinct of problems. My brothers and sisters, you really don't know how strong your faith is. until your faith has been put in a tussle of survival. Many of us when you get into a fight of faith instead of fighting and standing, we fight and hide in anger with God because we cannot believe that God would put us through something like this. I cannot believe that you would allow this to happen to me that I've been faithful. How many believers have we seen walk away from God because God has them in a season of confusion? Those who walk with God should be those uh who have all the answers know but those that walk with God should know uh that he gave us a promise that I'll never leave you. Uh no will I forsake you uh but I'll be with you always uh until the end of the world. Uh you have to understand that faith uh is meeting confusion. Uh and while it's meeting confusion, we understand that the result of our faith uh comes to fruition when we understand uh that sometimes it's okay to open up our mouth and utter, I just don't know. God, can somebody help me preach uh on my way out of here and open your mouth and say, "I just don't even know. There's some things I don't understand. There's some things I cannot comprehend. Uh I don't understand the details. Uh I don't understand the restraint. Uh but I thank God on a Sunday night." Uh that sometimes uh it leaves me when asking God, "What are you doing?" Uh God, where are you? God, why do you have me here? Uh uh come on. I didn't come to talk uh to religious folk tonight, but I come to talk to those uh that would be honest uh and say, "Brother knows I'm in a place of celebration and sorrow. I'm in a place of victories and failures. Uh I'm in a place where God is very present. Uh yet at the very same time, I feel distantuh from him all at once. You'll never know what God has for you until you recognize uh that sometimes we don't have all the answers. Uh in a place where people ask how do we do it? My response must be uh I don't know but by the grace of God we'll make it through. As saints, we have been afraid uh to put ourselves in a place uh where our answer is, I don't even know. Uh your insecurities about the move of God uh are safe with God. Uh God is not moved by your insecurities. Uh while you're still believing him, uh sometimes uh you have to be face to face with the facts. Uh and tell the truth. Uh I just don't even know. Uh I don't know what God is doing. uh because I'm in a place uh where I'm tustling uh with the revelation of God uh and what he is seemingly trying to do uh in my life. Uh have you ever been there in a state of confusion with God? Have you ever been there uh when you seemingly are lost uh with what God told you he was going to do? Have you ever been there when it feels like you're in a dry place uh worshiping uh and can't feel anything? Uh praying uh and can't hear anything uh praising uh and don't know what to do next. Uh I come to tell you my brothers and sisters uh I know for some of you uh you have to understand uh that there will be times uh come on that God will put you in that place uh to develop you. Uh, I know there's some new converts here. Uh, come on. And the sky seems blue. Uh, and the grass seems green. Uh, but for those of you seasoned saints, uh, can you wave your hands and let them know, uh, there's going to be some seasons, uh, that your faith has tried. Uh, there's going to be some hours, uh, that you pray and can't hear nothing back. Uh, there's going to be some times uh, that you come to the house of God uh, and your body is afflictuh, but you praise him anyway. Uh it's not because I have to but it's because I want to uh I choose to worship him. Uh I choose to praise him. Uh I choose to lift up holy handsh without wrath or doubling. Uh I choose to bless his name. Uh I choose to open my mouth uh and magnify the Lord. Uh I choose why because in my choice I made up my mind. Uh he may not come when I want him. Uh but he'll be there right on time. I wonder if I got a few believers uh that could stand up on your feet, throw your hands up, rar him. Uh I choose to praise him. Uh when my strange uh come on, is a little strange. I praise him anyway. When my bodyuh is under attack, I choose to praise him anyway. I don't know all the details, but one thing I know, if he brought me this far, he'll see me through the rest. Uh if he showed up before, he'll show up again. If he spoke before, he'll speak again. Uh he said, "My word will not return unto you void." Uh but because my word watch this is forever settled in heaven that means he already has record that what he's doing next it's already complete in my life. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I know for some you have to understand that our devotion and revelation of who he is is tied to our faith. Some of us we weep because of the awe of God. And some of us weep because we're confused with God. I'm in confusion. I'm trying to figure out this thing. Oh, but can I tell you? Can I jack up your theology tonight and tell you that God can handle all of your emotions? Oh, come on here. Can I say that again? Uh, God can handle all of your emotions. God can handle your joy and your anger. God can handle your happiness and your disappointment. God can handle your various emotions in such a way that sometimes all you got to do is throw your hands up like Jazz and say, "It's not my mama. It's not my daddy, but it's me, oh Lord. I'm standing in the need of prayer. It's okay that sometimes you get frustrated. But I come to remind somebody uh that in your frustration uh if you remain faithful uh he'll show up every time uh to remind you uh that I am a God that can walk into confusion and bring Calvary. I am a God that can walk into chaos and bring clarity. I am a God that can step in your troubled storm and say, "Peace be still." I am a God that answers by fire. That when you're hungry, I'll be your manor. When you're thirsty, I'll be your well. I'm trying to tell you, my brothers and sisters, that I'm in a placeh when God speaks, uh, something has to happen in my life. God, I'm in a place of confusion. I know you, but I just don't know about me. I just don't even know your I don't knows are safe with God. Don't ask me again. The truth of the matter is I just don't even know. Let's walk the text tonight. As you begin to examine the text, it would leave one with the question, what do we do when we just don't even know? What do we do when our faith is in limbo? Seemingly doing everything right yet so far from God. When you don't know, you must be persistent in your pursuit of God. Even when God has positioned himself in the seat of perplexity as we examine the text, it would suggest to us uh that a man by the name of Job, one of the most famous stories that we all have heard, we all have read whether coming up in church or whether being in church for a period of time, uh we all know about Job. This job guy, he's an upright man. This job guy, God testifies that Job is perfect and mature. Job is so faithful that he would get up every morning and make sacrifices to the Lord as a way to repent just in case his family had sin that day before God. This job who's so committed to the cause of Christ is now challenged in his faith. Satan sees God having a meeting with his angels. And when Satan shows up, God askked him the question, "Where have you been?" Satan responds walking the earth seeking to and fro to see whom you can devour. And the Bible declares that your God said, "Have you considered my servant Job?" Uh I wish I had time to park right there. But as time doesn't allow me, let me take the brakes off uh and tell you uh that some of us uh we got to get to a place in God that we have to ask the question, can we handle God placing ush on the chopping block? Can we handle God turning us over even though we've been faithful? Satan says, "Every time I try to touch him, I can't." You have a hedge around him. You have it around his mind. You have it around his body. You have it around his family. Uh and all his inheritance. Oh, but look at what Satan does. He challenges God by stating, "If you remove the hairs, Job won't be as perfect and mature as he is right now." Oh, you walk the text and the Bible would suggest that all in one day Job lost everything. Uh they came to Job. They told him that his servants are dying. Job's possessions being destroyed. Job's children are dying. All in one day. Somebody shout one day. Instead of Job cursing God, Job he shaved his head. He ripped his clothes. Job declared, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be uh the name of the Lord." Can I ask you a question? Uh on a Sunday night, uh can you worship while God is stripping you? Uh can you worship while God is taking from you? Uh can you worship while God uh is leaving you broken? Is he still God uh when he's not answering your prayers? Uh, is he still God? Uh, when he's not moving on your behalf. Oh, the Bible declared that Job never cursed God. Uh, resulting in Satan going back to God. Uh, he said, "I know Job didn't curse you and he passed the test, but it's easy for somebody not to curse. Oh, when they're in a state of confusion. Oh, when you have touched everything around them, but can't touch them." God says, "Okay, you can touch Job's body, but whatever you do, you cannot kill him." Oh, Job woke up the next morning. I want you to see it with your imagination, church. He woke up with boils all over his body. Blisters all over his body. Job had so many boils and blisters. According to Job's testimony, he couldn't lay in one place too long. He had to keep tossing and turning. And when he couldn't find comfort, he'd done the best he knew how to do. Job didn't even look like himself. He looked crazy and sickly. Oh, but here's where I want to preach. When all you have is a though, he took his hands and lifted them up and he lifted his eyesh. And Job uttered though. Hallelujah. Oh, come on, Zion. The Bible said that now he was broken down in his body. His body was decomposed by the sickness. But Job said though, I wonder tonight, can you push your neighborh like you mean it and say though is coming to your life tonight? I just don't even know the season. uh that I'm in. Preacher, you don't know. I've been praying for my brother and my brother's running further away from God. Uh though I've been praying for my babies and it seems like they're running further away than they are too. Though I come to tell somebody uh and be an encourager. I don't care what the devil has tried to tell you. Uh there's a though that is coming. Uh your babies uh are not lost. Uh but your babies uh are on their way back home. Uh I come to talk for every produ every lost daughter. Every lost son there's a though that is coming. There's a though that is coming. There's a though that is coming. I don't know if you hear me tonight. Uh I believe uh that right now when you open up your mouth uh God is going to take your words uh and shoot them like an arrow to them that are backsliding to them that are lost. There is a that is coming to your house. Though he slay me, >> yet will I trust him? I know you can shout when he's blessing you. But can you shout when it feels like your own God is trying to kill you? I know we could shout, but Job is saying, "Though it feels like my own God, the one I worship, the one I praise, the one I sacrifice to is trying to kill me. Yet will I trust him and I come to preach faith into this househ? If death is my portion, uh, I trust him in the process. If this is where you have me, I trust you through it. If the Lord don't heal me from it, he'll let me live with it. I come to tell somebody that when you get as though in your spirituh you're not going to settle for less, but you're going to make up in your mind uh that I'm pressing toward uh the mark of the high calling uh of Christ Jesus. Uh I trust him uh when it's not easy. Uh, I trust him uh in the bad times. Uh, I trust him uh in the good timesh. Uh, I wonder right now, can somebody throw your hands up and say, "Though is on the way. Though he slay me, yet will I trust him." I've got so much trust that through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus. Uh, I've learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon his word. Here's Job. Here's Job. I'm getting ready to come to a close. Job's decided to keep worshiping God. The Bible said Job's wife looked at him and told him to curse God and die. But I wonder tonight, can anybody make the devil out of a liar and make your God a truther and say my God will supply? But maybe it's going not to happen, but maybe will happen. Maybe he's going through this because he's a man of sin. That's what his friends said. But they didn't know the kind of maybe that he served. Oh, because Job said, uh, I'm not going to listen uh to what y'all profess. His mind was so locked up in God. He isn't moved by the advice of his wife and the revelation of his friends. Uh, oh, Job, he's still in an awkward position. He can't get any peaceuh, but still believing God. And 23 chapters later, Job is still believing God. By the time we get to chapter 23, uh, Job says, uh, I want to have a meeting with God. Job tries to seek after God, and God isn't answering him. God's putting me through it. Uh, and I'm the sickest I've ever been. Uh, and God isn't answering. The church said it like this. If you call on Jesus, he answers prayers. But what do you do when you call them and he doesn't answer? When you go to the prophet for a word, and the prophet's quiet and you go to somebody else and they don't have the words, I'll tell you what you do. you go back to what he said before. If he's not talking now, go back to the word uh that he told you last because his word will not return until you void. When you go to the prophet and they don't have an answer, and you go to your brother and they don't have an answer, and you go to your sister and they don't have an answer, I'll tell you what you can do. You could go to prayer and the Bible said that Job went forward and he wasn't there. I went backwardsh and he wasn't there. I looked to my left and he wasn't there. I looked to my right and he still wasn't there. Even when God wasn't answering, here's what Job said. Uh, I never lost my seek but I kept seeking. I kept going. until I found him. I wonder if somebody could throw your hands up and say, "God, do me like you done that deer." He said, "As the deer panth after the water brook, my soul, it longs. It's thirsty. I'm trying to tell you when you don't have an answer. Keep seeking when you don't know what to do. Keep seeking when you don't know where to go. Keep seeking uh somewhere. God will meet you where you are. >> Even when God wasn't answering, I never lost my seek. I believed God so much in the I don't even know season that when I couldn't find him, I kept pursuing. I believed God so much that even when I couldn't see him, woo, I kept looking. I feel the Holy Ghost right now. I come to encourage a brother tonight. I come to encourage a sister tonight. You might not see him, but if you keep on looking, you'll eventually find him. Uh you might not hear him, but if you keep listening, uh let he that have an ear, let him hear, let him hear. Let him hear. Leave that ear. Let up my let up. My God, I'm telling. I just felt a wave in here. Uh you got to listen. Uh you got to tune your ear because he's about to talk to you. Uh he's about to find you. Uh let he that hath an ear, let him hear what the spirit saith unto the church. >> Hallelujah. I feel a divine interruption right now. I said I feel a divine interruption right now. Come on. You know what we're feeling. I believe that's what he was feeling. Pastor Hammond pus coming out of his blistersh. Come on. Body ate up in boils. But he said, "I kept seeking. I kept searching. I kept listening and I believe that's what the writer said to seek ye first the kingdom of God. And oh oh I feel like telling somebody to seek ye first the kingdom of God and all his righteousness. all these other things uh all these other things uh shall be added unto youh if you seek him your healing's going to come if you seek him your miracle's going to come if you seek him your breakthrough's going to come but whatever you do don't stop seeking don't stop pursuing don't stop listening and all these other things. Pastor Nolan and all these other things. I'm not going to worry about what's coming. All I got to worry about is that I keep seeking. I don't got to worry about what he's going to do next. All I got to worry about is that I keep coming to the house of God. Even if I got to limp my way, I'm going to keep coming. Even if I got to drag my way, I'm going to keep coming. Because I know that somewhere somewhere God is going to show up to remind me that there is a in my circumstance. Oh, come on brother. Come on sister. Whatever you do, don't lose your seat. Whatever you do, don't lose your prayer life. Whatever you do, don't lose your fasting. Whatever you do, don't lose your worship. Seek him. Seek him. Seek ye first. Come on. Come on, Zion. God's looking for somebody to seek. God's looking for somebody to seek. Will you seek him? Will you seek him? I'm telling you what I feel right now in the Holy Ghost. I feel an old time prayer meeting getting ready to erupt out of this room because somebody you've been in a delirium state. You've been in a place of chaos. You've been in a place of confusion. But I believe the Lord sent me here as an encourager. You hear this evangelist? He said, "There is a though that is coming to your house. It's coming to your marriage. It's coming to your children. Though he slay me, yet will I trust him. I feel this in the Holy Ghost. There's somebody here tonight. Come on. The enemy, he's had you so distracted by the chaos. Come on, by the confusion that you've lost sight of your seek. But God said, "I want to restore your seek again." Uh I want to restore your seek again. that you have. Come on. You know how to find me. Uh it's in my presence that I continue to go after you. Uh I might not see it. I might not feel it. But God, I know somewhere you'll meet me at my point of need. Come on. Seek him. Seek him. Seek him. Seek him. I believe right now we're on the precipice of tipping over into another realm of the spirit. You don't need nobody to shake you. You don't need nobody to pat you on the head. But I feel like in this moment, the spirit of the living God is here to ask a young man uh are you seeking me? Uh I feel like the spirit of the Lord uh is here to ask a young lady, are you seeking me? I feel like the spirit of the Lord is here to ask an elder. Have you got so caught up in life that you forgot to seek meuh that you forgot to pursue me? Seek after me. Seek after meh like a deer that pth after the waterbrook. My soul, my soul, it long.
