Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Cruelty in their hands
- Genesis chapter 49, verse 5, is a deathbed prophecy: Jacob has called his sons together to tell them their future, and over Simeon and Levi the words are a curse, read to the scattering sentence — Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united — I hope I never have to darken the door of your counsel, he preaches it. Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce, and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. Wouldn't you just love it if those were the last words from your dad?
- Through mischief and dishonesty they had slain men. And yet it is Levi — the scattered one, the angry one — who becomes the Levitical priesthood: the only ones who could handle the sacrifices of men and women, the only ones who could stand behind the veil in the glory of God. Something took place. A descendant of Levi would change the direction of every generation the tribe would ever produce.
Scriptures: Genesis 49:5-7
Drawn out of the water
- Exodus chapter 2 is read from its opening through verse 10: a man of the house of Levi takes a daughter of Levi to wife, and in the days of the decree she hides her son three months, then makes an ark of bulrushes, daubs it with slime and with pitch, puts the child therein, and lays it in the flags by the river's brink. The last verse is named as he reaches it, riding inside the chapter's reading: and the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son — and she called his name Moses, and said, because I drew him out of the water. Moses: the son of Levi on whom generations would hinge.
Scriptures: Exodus 2:1-10
Leave Egypt, and meet the fire
- Moses kills an Egyptian and flees — and the sermon's first law is in the flight: if you're gonna change your lineage, you gotta leave Egypt. Egypt has always been and always will be a type of the world, and Pharaoh a type of the devil. At Jethro's well there is living water — a well that fills with stammering lips and another tongue, a well that will run tomorrow and Tuesday and every day after — and Moses helps draw it; you can't help but give this water: you're gonna take the water to Mexico, to South Africa, to the uttermost parts of the world.
- But an encounter with the water is not enough; you also gotta have an encounter with fire. At the burning bush: I am that I am — the living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, about to be the God that messes up Pharaoh and Egypt; I'm the God of your forefathers, but I'm about to be the God that changes your lineage. The sign is what is already in his hand: throw the rod down and it becomes a serpent; flee from it, and God says no — pick up the serpent. I'm gonna use what's in your hand. That same staff would touch the waters of the Red Sea and be the clank Pharaoh heard every time Moses walked into his court: let my people go. You cannot change a lineage by your might or by your power; you have got to have the aid of the supernatural, the awe-inspiring power of the Holy Ghost.
- And the covenant must be kept at home: on the way back, it was Zephora, as he names her, who heard the covenant and circumcised the son when Moses had not — yoke up with somebody that loves what you love and believes what you believe. Hold fast to the covenant and do not let go of the things that seem monotonous: if you're not careful, who your daddy was will be who you are, and who your mama was will be who you are — but grip the covenant, and God will change your lineage. 10 plagues, 10 marches into Pharaoh's court; keep pressing until you hear, you can get out of here. And the changed man shows it under attack: when they came against Moses, the record that got written was that Moses was the meekest man in all the land — when he could have retaliated, he didn't; he zipped that lip and let God fight his battles.
First generation
- A changed lineage can be lost again: his Samuel telling is the warning — a priestly house whose sons quit caring about the spiritual things, fell in love with the carnal things, took advantage of the sacrifice and of the women that served at the temple, until God said, I'll blot you out. What one generation grips, the next must grip for itself.
- Then he tells it from his own house. His great-grandfather was a drunk and a fighter, known in town for it — the top part of his ear missing from being bitten off in a bar fight — an abusive man who beat his wife, and beat his son when the boy got between them. But his great-grandmother was praying, and one day in a cotton field in Southeast Missouri the man fell down, buried his face in the dirt, repented of his sins, and God filled him with the Holy Ghost right there — and he finished his workday on the tractor, talking in tongues the whole while. The attitude still got hold of the next man: his grandpa was a drunk and a fighter too, until a cop arrested him and gave him two choices — jail, or come and fight — and somewhere in it the question hung on him all day: how could Jesus love a man like me? That night great-grandpa brought him to church; he was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. From Herschel Morgan, he says, has come a line of preachers — every generation since, filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus' name.
- So the charge lands on the young and the first-generation: I know you don't understand why mom and dad drag you to church when you don't want to come — but when you're slipping, this church is what'll ground you. The giants you're slaying, your kids won't have to slay; the nights you're warring in prayer, you're changing who your kids are gonna be. Your family may be telling you you're the only ones who can't say certain things and go certain places — friend, you might have to be separated from the world, might have to struggle and fight and push your way. Don't throw in the towel. Whatever sacrifice you make tonight, you don't know what you're changing — or who you're changing.

Genesis chapter 49 verse number five, give you a little context here. Jacob has called his sons together and at the end of this chapter, he will pass on to be with the Lord. And as it was in this day, he gathered his sons together to prophesy over them and to tell them about their future. We look here at verse number five as he begins to deliver his passing words to Simeon and to Levi and we read that here and Simeon and Levi are brothers. They are instruments of cruelty. They are in their inhabitations. Oh my soul, come not into their secret under their assembly, my honor, be not thou united. For their anger, in their anger they slew a man and in their self-will they dig down a wall. Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce and their wrath, for it was cruel.
I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. Wouldn't you just love if that was the last words from your dad, amen? That verse number six, he tells Simeon and Levi, he says, I pray that I never have to get counsel from you. I hope that I never have to darken the door of your counsel. Turn with me now to the book of Exodus chapter two, verse number one through three and then verse number 10. Now remember he prophesied over Simeon and Levi, verse number one of Exodus chapter two. And there went a man of the house of Levi and he took a wife, a daughter of Levi and the woman conceived and bear a son and when she saw him that he was a goodly child she hid him three months and when she could no longer hide him she took him on Ark of Bullrushes
and dabbed it with slime and with pitch and put the child there in and she laid it in the flags by the river's bank. Verse number 10 and the child grew, the child that would be a son of Levi and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son and she called his name Moses and she said, because I drew him out of the water for the next few moments with the help of the Holy Ghost I simply wanna preach to you on this thought, how to change a lineage. Would you set your Bibles down and would you lift your hands all over this place and would you pray that God would speak through us and he would anoint me for his glory and his will tonight. Lord I love you. Thank you for what I feel in this house. I thank you for what's moved already.
I thank you God for what you're about to do. I pray that you would anoint me from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. Let your word flow freely and without fetter. Lord right now I loose the gifts of the spirit into this atmosphere right now. I pray that you would confirm this word with signs following. I ask it all and believe it in the wonderful name of Jesus. If you believe God's gonna speak to you and you believe God's gonna do something great in this house I want you to clap your hands and praise him. Praise God, praise God, praise God, praise God. Amen, you may be seated in Jesus' name. Amazing to me that the passing words of prophecy over the tribe of Levi was that of negativity. It was Simeon and Levi that put together a plan when their sister was taken advantage of
and through mischief and dishonesty they slayed many men. Through that this Father Jacob Israel prophesies over them. I hope I never have to get in your counsel. I hope I never have to come to you for wisdom or knowledge. In this prophecy we understand that Levi would become that of the Levitical priesthood. Those that would be the only ones that could traffic in the glory of God. Those that would be the only ones that could handle the sacrifices that came to the altar. Those that would be the ones that men and women would come to and they would seek their counsel and their guidance and through the Eurom and the Thummim they would go in unto the Lord and they would come out with wisdom and counsel for them. It was of the children of Levi that we get the Levitical priesthood. Those that could go beyond the veil.
Those that could handle the sacrifices of men and women. Those that could stand in the all inspiring glory of God. I don't know about you here tonight but I'm here to have an encounter with the glory of God. I have not come just to be in another Sunday night service. I feel like it is always the intention of God that when his people come together that we go beyond the outer court. That we go beyond the inner court. That we push beyond that table of shoe bread. That altar of incense. And we get behind the veil. And we get in the glory of the Almighty God. I remind you today that the only veil that stands between you and glorious no longer that that separated the inner court and the holiest of holies. But the only veil that stops you from you getting to glory is flesh.
And if you want to have an encounter with the glory of God. I challenge you. I urge you that tonight you push beyond your flesh. I know your flesh might be weary but do you want to have an encounter with glory? I know you might have come in here tired. It's the second service and you had a long week but I want to have an encounter with glory. Shataya la Baha. I want to have such an encounter with the glory of God that it might be that which was spoken that when Solomon got done praying and offering the sacrifice unto the Lord that the fire fell and consumed the sacrifice. And when the glory of God filled the temple those men could not even stand in the presence of God because the weight and the majesty of the glory that fell in that house. I love the glory of God.
I've heard stories of mist and hazes coming into the room. Not a fog that was produced by a machine but the kind of glory that comes into a house where it can only come from a heavenly source. The kind of glory that descends down from heaven. The kind of glory that comes with weight. The kind of glory that makes you want to fall on your face and cry holy. Holy is the Lord God almighty. But it would only be those of the sons of Levi that could encounter this kind of glory. Everybody else was an onlooker. We could see from a distance but we could not enjoy being in that special place. We could not enjoy getting beyond the veil. However it happened we don't really know something supernatural took place that transported that high priest out of the holiest into the holiest of holy.
Something took place but you had to be of a descendant of Levi. The one that was said, anger is in your hands. I hope I never have to hear counsel from you. That man would become the one that would become the Levi. That man would be the one that would get to get behind the veil. That man would be the one that would get to handle the sacrifice. What happened between the prophecy and the promise of the Levitical priesthood? One man decided, I will not be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter. One man made up in his mind. I don't care how good the pleasures of sin are for a season. One person said, I don't care if I have riches. I don't care if I have education. I don't care if I've got a nice house and a nice car. If I don't be separated from Pharaoh.
You find this man, a son of Levi. His name is Moses. Moses, the one that would change the future for the sons of Levi. Moses, the one that would change the direction of every party that would be produced of the tribe of Levi. Moses, the one of which hinged upon generations of those that could understand the sacrifices of God that could carry out the priestly ministry. Moses would be the one. The Bible teaches us that Moses one day, he is in this position of power and he is all the money that he could want. He is all the education that he needs and he sees one day somebody mistreating a fellow Hebrew and something rises up in Moses and he says, I cannot stand for this. And he slays the Egyptian and when Pharaoh hears what Moses has done, he is angry and he sought to kill Moses
and Moses flees from Egypt. Friend, if you're gonna change your lineage, you gotta leave Egypt. I wanna tell you tonight that Egypt has always been and always will be a type of the world and Pharaoh has always been and always will be a type of the devil. And if you're going to get a lineage shift in your life in spite of what was spoken over you, in spite of who your family is, in spite of what sin and obscurity you've come out of, in spite of what addiction your father had, in spite, my, my, my, my. I don't care what your mommy was, what your dad was, what your grandfather was. All you've got to do is make up in your mind. I'm getting out of Egypt. My God. I feel like in my spirit tonight, I am to preach to somebody that has said my sacrifices,
feel sometimes like they are in vain. I feel like I'm preaching to somebody tonight that has said I don't understand why we do everything we do. I'm telling you why. You're changing your lineage because what God brought you out of, your kids won't have to come out of because what God taught you out of, your kids won't have to come out because the devils you're willing to kill, your kids won't have to kill, the devils you're willing to slay, your kids won't have to slay. My, my, his first stop on his way out of Egypt is to a well. Don't miss that. You got to get to the well. When you leave Egypt, you better get to a well. A well of living water. A well that will never run dry. A well that when you get a drink of that water, you'll never thirst again.
A well that is not water, literally, but it's water spiritually. A well that'll fill you with stammering lip and another tongue. And a well that won't fill you once. That well will run tomorrow. That well will run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. I thank God I made a trip to the well. My, my, my, he made a trip to the well. He helps these young ladies, fend off some men, desert men, help some water the flock of their father. And they come back and their dad goes, how in the world are you here so soon? And they said, well, there was a man at the well because when you get water, you want to give water. I don't have time to preach that, but when you really get water, you can't keep it to yourself. You're gonna give it to somebody else. You're gonna tell somebody else about the water.
You're gonna take the water to Mexico. You're gonna take the water to South Africa. You're gonna take the water to the other most parts of the world. You can't help but give this water because freely I have received and you better believe freely I'll give. And you see Moses, you see this man helping. He comes back for dinner. Evidently it was a very good dinner because he ends up marrying one of the guy's daughters. That's a pretty good dinner. You have to do a whole lot more than one dinner if you're gonna get my little harlow, praise God. I can say that now. I'm a dad, hallelujah. Can't you tell I'm working on my dad bar? That banana, what do we talk about? Zach, where are you at? That thing from Chick-fil-A right now. That banana-putting shake. My Lord have mercy. Help us all Jesus, you are dismissed.
He heads ice cream. He heads to a well. And then he heads to the house of Jethro. There he has a son. But something more had to happen. It's not enough to just have an encounter with the living water that flows out of you. You can't just have an encounter with the water. You also gotta have an encounter with fire. Because one day he was wandering around with the flock and he sees a fire burning. But you have to understand, it's not enough to see a fire. The fire can't help you if you just see the fire. The fire can't minister to you if you just look at the fire. The fire can't minister to you if you just kinda say, boy, that fire looks cool. The Bible said he saw the fire, but the fire didn't speak until he turned aside. You've got to get consumed by the fire.
You've got to get an eye on the fire and say, I'm not looking at anything. I'm not worried about the sheep I was tending to. I'm not worried about anything else that's happening. I wanna know what's this fire all about. Friend, I'm not over this holy ghost and fire. I said I'm not over this holy ghost and fire. It still feels like fire set up in my bones. Maybe you're over the fire, but I'm not over the fire. I got it when I was five years old and I still feel the fire. It turns to the fire and a voice comes out. Take your shoes off Moses. You're standing on holy ground and I love the interaction that begins to take place. Moses, I've heard the cry of my people. You got to go and be the deliverer, Moses. Who do I say sent me?
I am that I am. I am that I am. I am that I am. What do you mean you are that you are? I'm y'all way the living God. I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and I'm about to be the God that messes up Pharaoh and Egypt. I am the God of your forefathers, but I'm about to be the God that changes your lineage. I'm the God of yesterday, but I'm about to show you I'm the God that's not just gonna change you. I'm gonna change everybody else that has the name Levi because when you get ahold of the fire, it's gonna affect those that come from you. I love it. Moses still doesn't believe. You got to understand he's contending with these things. He has this old nature within him, this manipulative nature, this nature that was given to him, this nature that comes from Levi,
this nature that is a man that doesn't have good counsel, this nature that is a man that is dishonest, this fatherly nature from his earthly father, not his heavenly father, my Lord. And he says, all right, Moses, this is how I'm gonna convince you that you're gonna be who I've called you to be. Throw that rod down, boom. And it turns into a snake. I love Moses. Moses is my kind of guy and he fled from it. Gregory's here. I wish he wasn't because he's gonna laugh at me for this one. The other day I was taking my trash out. There was a snake on my driveway. I just threw the trash bag at it and said, I'll take care of the trash later. I'm out of here. Ain't no way, no how. Me and Moses got some stuff in common. We flee from serpents, praise God.
And God says, no, Moses, you can't flee from this. I'm trying to teach you a principle. Pick up the serpent. I hear March writing when Moses reaches down and picks up the serpent. Thou shalt take up serpents. I'm not talking about real serpents. It was an ideology that God was trying to burden Moses. I'm gonna use you in the supernatural. And I'm not gonna use anything other than what you've already got in your hand. If you're gonna change your lineage, you got to understand that God's gonna use you in the supernatural. That's what I hear when I hear Jesus. You shalt take up serpents. I think they thought back to Moses when he reached down and the serpent turned back into the rod. He was saying, you're gonna be a generation that operates in the supernatural. You better hear me. If you're gonna change your lineage,
you've got to have the aid of the supernatural. If your kids are gonna be different, you've got to have the awe-inspiring power of the Holy Ghost. You can't do this by your might. Come on, I feel like preaching to somebody. You can't do this by your might or by your power. You've got to do it by the spirit of the living God. And for those of you that say, I'll never be used in the supernatural, you sound like Moses. And you're waiting on God to give you something. God started with what Moses already had. If you want God to use you in the supernatural, quit waiting for God to put something in your hand and loose what he gave you to begin with. He was training you in the wilderness. He was training you while you were all by yourself. And you thought nobody was watching.
God was walking with you saying, I'm gonna use what's in your hand. That very staff was the one that would touch the waters of the Red Sea. That very staff would be the one that Moses would hold up in the air for many plagues. That very staff would be the clank that Pharaoh would hear every time he walked into his court and said, let my people go. You've got to use what God's given you. You've got to use what God's given you. Quit looking for God to give you something when God's trying to use what he gave you to begin with. Quit praying for God to give you something else and use what he trained you up with. You've got gifts, talents, and things that God's been trying to use. And you're praying, God use me, give me something. And God's saying, I can't give you
until you start using what I started you with. You're gonna change your lineage. You've got to be used in the supernatural. You've got to let the supernatural work through you. He was stood Pharaoh. I love this part. Because when he's headed back to Egypt, the Bible says that he stops at a hotel. I don't know, Pyramids by Marriott. Oh, Lord, help me. I like this, I got some preaching me tonight. I hope y'all are with me. He stops at a hotel. And the Bible says sickness falls. It doesn't make it clear whether it was on Moses or Moses' son. It just says one of them was about to die. Now I think it was Moses personally. And this is where I see, and this is a youth led service. So let me preach to the young people just for a second. It matters who you marry.
Because had Zephora not have heard the covenant that God made with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses, you've got to circumcise your son on the eighth day. But because he was not circumcised, God was about to kill, in my opinion, Moses, because he wasn't living right in the covenant. But thanks be to God, he married a woman that said, when you start slipping on the covenant, I'm gonna hold on. That fell about right there. Don't you dare let go of the covenant. I don't know what kind of fight you're in. I don't know what you're going through, but you gotta hold on to the covenant. You don't let it slip, friend. Young people, you better marry somebody that loves this book. You better marry somebody that loves prayer, fasting in the word. You better marry somebody that knows what we believe and why we believe it.
There'll be a day you get tired and you'll thank God. You had somebody in your life that prayed the prayer of faith. You better pray. How can two walk together lest they agree? Yoke up with somebody that loves what you love. Believes what you believe. Walk after God. Give him all of your heart. You're gonna change your lineage. You better marry somebody that loves the covenant. Atayalabashataha. Atayalabashataha. The covenant still matters. Baptism in Jesus' name still matters. Holiness and separation still matters. Tongue still matters. You better get the Holy Ghost with the evidence. Speaking in an unknown tongue. And you better fall in love with it. And you better teach it to your kids. Atayataha. Todd, had it not been for Sephora, I don't believe there would be a Moses to deliver the people. But thanks be to God, somebody said, when you're slipping, I'm holding on.
I know you don't understand why mom and dad drag you to church when you don't wanna come. But when you're slipping, this church is what'll ground you. Get to the house of God and hear your men of God preach what thus says the word of the Lord. Because when you're slipping, you better thank God. There's somebody in your life that says, when you're letting go, I'm still holding on. So this is, you see, this is the last insight you see into the glimpse of Levi in Moses' life. Moses didn't obey the covenant. And when Sephora comes to him, she throws the excess flesh at him and she says, that weren't a bloody man. That was going back to his father. Go back and read what Simeon and Levi did. I don't have time to preach it, but it ties into what Sephora reminded him of.
If you're not careful, Moses, who your daddy was will be who you are. Who your mama was will be who you are. But if you'll hold fast to the covenant, God help me tonight. If you'll grip a hold of the covenant and not let go, God will change your lineage. Don't let go of things that seem monotonous. You better hold on, it's important to God. Hold on to the covenant. You see that Sephora takes this and this is the last reminder of who his daddy was. Now, you begin to read Moses, steps in and he withstands Pharaoh. Because when you're holding on to the covenant, you can withstand the king of this world. Friend, if you're going to change your lineage, you've got to withstand Pharaoh. It's not always going to be easy to look at Pharaoh and say you cannot hold us captive. But you've got to withstand Pharaoh when it's not easy.
10 plagues, he marches to Pharaoh. 10 times, he goes after Pharaoh. You would imagine after the ninth time he was ready to give up. But you've got to keep pressing until you hear, you can get out of here. Moses is now on the other side. He's on his way out of Egypt. And now you get a glimpse of the man that changes his lineage. You read in the book of Numbers that when Aaron and Miriam come to Moses and they say, Moses, Moses, what's so special about you? We hear from God too. Hear me, we hear from God too. And they lash out at the man that was the oracle of God. And this is where you would think you would see the old Moses, the vengeful man that his father prophesied he would be. Oh, Lord. The angry man that his father said you will always be.
The bloody man that his wife said you are to me. But this time, while they are attacking Moses, a verse is written. And Moses was the meekest man in all the land. When he could have retaliated, he didn't. When he could have lashed out, he didn't. When he could have been hurtful, he didn't. He just stopped. And out of the heavens, God speaks on Moses's behalf. When I speak to you, I speak to your ear. But when I speak to Moses, I put my lips to his lips. It's a divine exchange. Nothing, nothing messes with the word when it comes out of Moses' mouth. And God fights on his behalf. God fought on behalf of, why? Because when he could have retaliated, when he could have acted like his father, when he could have acted like his ancestors, he said, something has got a hold of me.
And he responded in a godly manner, zip that lip, and let God fight his battles. Friend, I don't know who your mom was. I don't know who your dad was. I don't know what type of family God brought you out of. I don't know what type of sin God has called you out of. I don't know what type of addiction you used to hold on to. I don't know what type of depression used to have a hold of you. I don't know what type of suicide used to come through your mind. But I'm telling you, standing here tonight, you everything you're doing, coming to the house of God, reading the word of the Lord, being faithful to prayer, fasting and diligent to the house of God. You're changing your future, my God. Come on, I'm preaching to a mama tonight that wants to give up.
Hold on, you're changing who your kids are gonna be. Hold on, young people, hear me tonight on this youth led service. I know sometimes all of this seems monotonous, but when you are doing this, you're gonna change your future. The giants you're slaying, your kids won't have to slay. The nights in prayer that you're warring things. You better hear me. Don't ever get too accustomed because that old man will always be dormant. Because you find in the book of Samuel, there were some sons of Levi by the name of Haphni and Phineas. And they quit caring that they got to be the ones that stood in the glory and the presence of God. They quit caring that they got to be the ones that offered up sacrifices unto the Lord. They quit caring that they got to be the ones that trafficked in the glory of Almighty God.
They quit caring. They quit caring about the spiritual things and started falling in love with the carnal things. They quit caring about the things of God and started falling in love with the things of man. They took advantage of the sacrifice. They took advantage of the women that worked in the temple. And God said, I'll blot you out. I'll remove you. Why? Because you have forgotten who you used to be before I got ahold of you. Don't ever get so accustomed with the presence of God and with his glory that we forget what God brought us out of. Now when I think of the goodness of Jesus. And all that he's done for me. My soul cries out, hallelujah, thank God for saving me. You want to know what produces a Tyler Richie, somebody that's faithful to the house of God. You want to know what produces a family
that loves the Lord and grandkids that worship when you get a grandfather and a father that say, I'm gonna give everything to the kingdom. Brother Richie, I haven't heard all of your testimony but I've heard some of it. Hey, God brought him out and he's not gonna let anything take away the good. You don't know what's hanging in the balance. You don't know what's hanging in the, you better believe I'm holding on to glory. Lift your hands all over this house and let's worship the Lord. I'm just gonna tell you, young people, listen to this preacher. Moses probably felt a little weird wandering around in a desert by himself. And I know there's times when you go to school and you're the only one acting the way you act, doing the things you do, talking the way you talk, being who you are and you feel like you're in obscurity.
I know sometimes we go to work and we wonder why, how come we are the only ones that can't say certain things, go certain places, do certain things. Friend, I might have to be separated from the world. I might have to struggle and fight and push my way. I'm preaching to somebody that's first generation right now and your family is telling you you're crazy. Your family, come on, your parents are telling you, don't you dare go to that tongue talking church. Come on, everybody, don't you dare allow God to get ahold of you the way he's getting ahold of you and you're being ostracized, isolated and you're being pushed into a corner. Can I tell you tonight, it might be uncomfortable for you but your kids will know what it's like to grow up, dancing in an altar. I don't have time to tell the whole story.
I've preached, I don't know how long I've preached. I didn't bring anything up here but I may have told this story before but my great grandfather, he was a drunk, he was a fighter. He was known in town for being a fighter. Matter of fact, the top part of his ear was missing from being bitten off in a bar fight. Just the type of man he was, he was a hard man, a crazy man. One day, my great grandmother got filled with the Holy Ghost and she started praying. God would get ahold of my great grandfather. My great grandpa was a sharecropper, my grandpa tells me in the story. He was plowing a cotton field. He smoked a carton of cigarettes. I think he said a week and he bought them in bulk. He bought a month's supply at a time, he had his liquor.
He was such an abusive man, my grandpa told me that he would beat my great grandmother. And one time, my grandfather tried to stop him and when he got in between him and my great grandmother, that my great grandfather just started beating my grandpa. One day, my praying great-grandma, she was seeking God, touching Lord. Get ahold of this hard man. He was plowing a cotton field and the Lord spoke to him and said, repent of your sins and be filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost. He was a hard man, he ignored the voice of God. He spoke again, repent of your sins and be filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost. He ignored God the second time and the third time. There was no voice. My grandfather tells the story that the angel of the Lord knocked him off that tractor.
He fell down in that cotton field and he knew he better get right with God. He buried his face in the dirt, repented of his sins and God filled him with the Holy Ghost in the middle of a cotton field in Southeast Missouri. But he had to finish work. So he got back on the tractor and my grandpa tells me the story. He talked in tongues all day long and he didn't stop talking in tongues. When he got off the tractor, he got in the car and drove home and he was still talking in tongues. He walked in the house talking in tongues, walked to where he kept the cigarettes, got them out of the cabinet. They had a wood burning stove, walked over to that wood burning stove, threw his cigarettes in the stove, shut it, went over to the liquor cabinet, got the liquor and poured it down the drain,
all the while talking in tongues. But his attitude had got a hold of my grandpa. And my grandpa was now a drunk and a fighter, such a fighter that a cop arrested him and said you got one or two choices. You go to jail or you come and fight. I know it sounds like it's out of a movie but it's straight from the mouth of my grandpa. So my grandpa started boxing. But my great grandpa and my great grandma started praying for my grandpa. And there was a revival going on in Kenneth, Missouri. And my grandpa tells the story. He said I got drunk all night, Saturday night, but mama made me go to church so I went to church Sunday morning hungover. He was sitting somewhere towards the back and the evangelist walked by him and just slapped him on the shoulder and said, Jesus loves you and kept going.
Didn't say another word to him, Bishop. He said it hung on to him all day long. How could Jesus love a man like me? I'll tell you a whole shit. And so great grandpa now comes back to church that night. God fills him with the baptism of the Holy Ghost, baptized in Jesus' name. From Herschel Morgan has come a line of preachers. Every single one of his six kids are baptized in Jesus' name, filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost. All of the men are in ministry. All of the women serve God in their in ministry. And are you ready? Every single one of his grandkids that are old enough are baptized in Jesus' name, filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost. And almost all of them are in ministry and serve in the Lord. And now all of his great grandkids that are old enough
are filled with the Holy Ghost, baptized in Jesus' name. Friend, I know sometimes you got to push beyond the flesh. Sometimes you feel like it's not worth coming to the house of the Lord. But when you get here, you're making a change that your kids are gonna feel that your future is gonna enjoy. You don't know who you're gonna produce. You don't know who you're gonna come in contact with. Stand with me all over the house, I'm done. I want this to be a night of commitment. If you're in this place, you've never been filled with the Holy Ghost. You're one encounter with the well away. You're one encounter with the fire away from changing everything that is about your future. I'm preaching right now to somebody that has wondered if it's worth everything you fight to be who you are in Christ Jesus. I'm telling you tonight, don't give up the fight.
Don't throw in the towel. I know it's not always easy. I know sometimes it's difficult. Whatever sacrifice you make, you don't know what you're changing or who you're changing. I'm preaching to every young person under the sound of my voice. If you'll make a commitment tonight, I won't give in and I sure won't give up. I'll press when it's easy and I'll press when it's not easy. I'll pray when it's easy and I'll pray when it's not easy. Just God get everything out of me that's like the world. I want my kids to love you. I want my great grandkids to love you. I'm preaching to a mama and daddy that's been faithful and your kids aren't living for the Lord. The Lord has not come back yet and your day is not over. You're wanting to make a commitment tonight unto the Lord. I challenge you to join me in this altar.
