Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The foolishness of preaching

  • This is an online revival service — the congregation is in their homes — and he opens by marveling that God is an omnipresent God: it does not matter if you are in your home or on your job, He is still God and still in control. He thanks his pastor, and reads his text, 1 Corinthians 1:18-27: "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God... Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?... it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: but we preach Christ crucified... because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men." Not many wise, mighty, or noble are called; God has chosen the foolish — simply meaning the simple — things of the world to confound the wise, and the weak things to confound the mighty. His subject: it really is simple.

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 1:18-27; Psalms (book-only, as spoken)

A student of preaching

  • We live in a world that does not understand the culture and family life of the Apostolic Church, and some Apostolics have been ostracized and thought strange — so in a sense we have built our own world in Pentecost, and rightfully so. He loves being around the people of God; most of the best memories of his life are youth camps, fellowship meetings, and camp meetings, where he has heard some of the best Apostolic preaching anyone could hear — he names messages by other preachers that he sat under and wept and shouted through, including his own pastor's preaching. He counts himself a student of preaching. And he names the pressure plainly: preachers live under constant pressure in Pentecost to preach something no one has ever heard before, to yank the covers off dark things and reveal mysteries. He believes in preaching with revelation, in studying to show himself approved, and he does his best every time he steps behind a pulpit to be anointed and prepared. But in all of that, God must not let us forget that He took the foolish, simple things to confound the wise — and the simplicity of the gospel will always stand alone. We need good preaching, but pretty words can fail; the Word of God will never fail or falter, and will constantly do what it was sent to do. You don't need a revelation to tell somebody there is power in the Word, and you don't need to preach to ten thousand to tell somebody there is power in the Lord.

Don't make it harder than it is

  • Paul told the church at Corinth in 2 Corinthians chapter 11 that his fear was this: as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, their minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. He is writing to a problem-ridden, broken church, and before he lines everything out, his greatest fear is that somewhere down the line they would try to make this harder than it really is — that an acute argument would beguile them as it beguiled Eve. Don't let the devil jump in your mind and add all this stuff: stand on the Word — I've repented of my sins, I've been baptized in His name, I've been filled with the Spirit, I'm part of the body of Christ. You might not be a preacher, but you can be a proclaimer of the goodness of Jesus; you don't have to be a preacher to tell somebody Acts 2:38 and Deuteronomy 6:4. It might be simple, but it still works — people are still being saved by it. We want the bomb-going-off revelation, but remember the first time you heard that you have to repent, be baptized in Jesus' name, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost — the bomb that went off in your mind then. In his opinion, if anybody should have preached on the day of Pentecost it should have been the educated ones — Matthew or Simon the tax collector, men better with words. But in Matthew chapter 16, at Caesarea Philippi, when Jesus asked, "Whom do men say that I the Son of Man am?" the group answered together — John the Baptist, Elias, Jeremiah, prophets. When He asked, "But whom say ye that I am?" Simon Peter stepped out front: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." Peter got the simplicity of who God is — and that is what made him the one who would stand in Jerusalem and answer, "What shall we do?"

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 11; Matthew 16

When you know who Jesus is

  • If you know who Jesus is, it doesn't matter how much money you make, where you came from, or what your life looks like: you can share the simplicity of the doctrine, lay hands on the sick and see them recover, cast out devils, expect a miracle because Jesus is a miracle worker, expect a healing because He is a healer, expect deliverance, a way made, provision — because He is a provider, a protector, a Savior. Peter didn't know how the body works: at the gate called Beautiful, a man lame for some thirty years asked for money, and Luke the doctor might have calculated six to eight weeks of balance training and months before running — but Peter only knew who Jesus is. "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee" — he had a revelation of who Jesus is, and what was inside him was greater than the thing holding the man down: "Rise up and walk." The man who had never walked began to leap and run; God condensed a process of months into a moment because somebody had the revelation that faith still works — faith can still move mountains, still heal, still reach down and pull you up. Peter the unlearned set the pace for the learned man coming after him: Paul, a Pharisee of Pharisees who knew how to win arguments in a court of law, struck out — his intellect wasn't getting people into the baptistry or to the altar. Finally Paul stood up and said, all I came to tell you is Jesus Christ and Him crucified. His wisdom was the wisdom of this world; you will never win people by arguing earthly ideologies. You might out-argue a preacher or twist around somebody who doesn't know the Bible, but you will never get anybody who has experienced the Holy Ghost to deny its power. Once you've tasted it, you'd stand like Paul and say: I'm not smart enough to figure it out, but Jesus Christ and Him crucified is living inside of me, and there is not a devil in hell or out of hell that can take it from me. It is simple — but it still works.

Even the devils testified

  • It's so simple that even the devil can preach it. People connected to the church say, "I would help, I would teach Bible studies, I would outreach — but I don't know how to explain it." Read Luke chapter 4, verse 40: at sunset, all who had any sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus, and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. Verse 41: devils also came out, crying out and saying, "Thou art the Christ the Son of God." The devils were running around giving testimony to who Jesus is — if the devil can testify of who He is, what excuse do you have to sit with crossed arms and say you won't tell anybody? Has He ever healed you? Delivered you? Made a way? Then tell somebody: I know Him because I've tried Him, and He works. Your testimony is the greatest sermon anybody could ever preach. Or tell them what Jesus said in John chapter 5, verse 16: the Jews persecuted Him for doing these things on the Sabbath, and He answered, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." Jesus works: if you're broken, He works; if you're rich or poor, He works; morning and night, wherever you are, Jesus is working. You don't have to know how everything works — you just need to know that it works. If somebody deposited a million dollars in your bank account and the bank couldn't tell you who did it, you wouldn't refuse to spend it because you couldn't explain it; you would take what was given and use it. How would you use it monetarily but not spiritually? Believe in one God, get baptized in His name, repent of your sins, be filled with the Holy Ghost — and as you start figuring it out, revelation starts coming up: this really does work. He is 28 years old and still trying it, and it is still working: he thought he knew all he could know about God, then reads the Word and finds a little more; thought God had done all He could do, then turns around into another miracle; in the midnight hour somebody calls on the name of Jesus and something begins to move. What you need to do is stop sitting on your couch being depressed and just try Jesus. If you need a healing — Jesus works. If you need a miracle — Jesus works. If you need a breakthrough — it's really that simple.

you that I have heard some of the best apostolic preaching that anyone could hear I have wept in travail with messages when like brother Ken Bo preached the door to the fourth dimension I have was there when Pastor Wesley Jackson preached broken crayons color best and I've shouted with preachers as they have preached sermons like brother Nathanael ocean sometimes it's like the snow I was there when your good pastor preached the war for more I was there for so many and I don't have time to name them all but so many masterpieces in their own right so many messages that were timely so many messages that spoke with revelation and that we in a sense would yank the covers off of the dark things that we cannot see clearly in the Bible some things that were mysteries were revealed in those messages and I consider myself to be a student of preaching and I don't want this to come out round today but as a preacher we live our lives under constant pressure within the world of Pentecost to preach something that no one has ever heard before and rightfully so I believe that we should preach with revelation and constantly reaching into the depths of God's Word to tie things together and to put the pieces of this puzzle together I believe that as a minister of the gospel that it is my duty to study to show myself approved and God help me that I spend the time that I need to in the word and every time I step behind a pulpit I do my very best to be anointed and prepared to preach what God has given me but Wow we do all of that God don't ever let us to forget that you took the foolish the simple things to confound the wise and the simplicity of the gospel will always stand alone please again don't misunderstand me I'm not telling you that we don't need to have good preaching we need good preaching but at the end of the day my pretty words might fail me and might fail women might fail saints of God night fell but the Word of God will never fail the Word of God will never falter the Word of God will constantly do what it was sent to do can I tell a saint today you just need to turn the Word of God loose huh and let it do what God ordained it to do that's power in the Word of God Almighty let me tell you something you don't need to be able to give somebody a revelation to let him know that there's power in the word you don't need to be able to stand up and preach the ten thousand to tell somebody there's power in the word of the Lord hallelujah Paul told the church in Corinth in 2nd Corinthians chapter 11 he said I'd fear by by any means as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty that your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ he's speaking to a problem ridden church he's speaking to a church that is broken in a sense they have problems within themselves there's this unity and the church they are practicing things they have no business practicing and Paul begins to write to them and as he's getting ready to set all of these things in order as Paul is getting ready to tell them and line them out if you will he begins to tell them my greatest fear it's not that you get caught up in prophecy it's not that you mess up my greatest fear is that somewhere down the line you try to make this harder than what it really is he said in his acute arguments were enough to beguile Alleva and that's what I fear is that somewhere somehow you look at the gospel and say this is really hard no it's not whatever you do Carla don't make it harder than it is Christ died rose again and received in the Gloria he filled us with his spirit huh and he's saying don't let the devil take that away from you let me tell you something tonight if you're not careful you'll let the devil jump in your mind and try to add all this stuff in and tell you what you gonna do about this huh and what you're gonna do about that huh you need to stand on the Word of God and say I've repented of my sins I've been baptized in his name filled with the spirit I'm I'm a part of the body of Christ now I know it's simple but God took the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe you might not be a preacher but baby you can be a proclaimer of the goodness of Jesus huh of the power that's in his word you don't have to be a preacher to tell somebody 2:38 Deuteronomy 6 and 4 it

might be simple but it still works huh it's still saving people people are still message we want to be some great revelation where when somebody begins to preach there's this bomb going off and your mind explodes because I've never seen that before and again and please don't make me qualify this again and again but we need to be like that we need to preach like that but at the same time I want you to remember what it was like the first time you ever heard you got to repent of your sins and you got to be baptized in Jesus name and you got to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost huh do you remember the bomb that went off in your mind never seen that before I've never heard that before I know it's simple to you now but don't ever forget to there's power in the message of just the simplicity of the doctrine in my own opinion if anybody should have preached on the day of Pentecost the message it should have been Matthew or Simon the tax collector or the Zillah both were in some sort of political campaign they were smarter they were better with words but in Matthew chapter 16 we see that there's a man that has something that they didn't get at this point in time Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples and he said who the men say that I the Son of Man and they said and some of them said you John the Baptist some said Elias and others said Jeremiah the Prophet and he looked at them and he said but who do you say that I am notice that he's talking to them collectively Mathew was there mark was there John was there he's speaking to them in a collective group all of them have begin to say the Bible says and they said they were speaking in a group when they said some say you're John the Baptist huh and some in liars and some Jeremiah but when he said who do you say that I am the Bible said that Simon Peter steps out in front of the brethren he said I know you got your opinion up but let me just say that thou art the Christ the Son of the Living God and it's in that moment that sees the simplicity of who God is and that makes him the poor mother and the anointed preacher that when they would stand in Jerusalem and say what shall we do Peter would stand up with the Brethren and say you wanna know why because he got the simplicity Jesus I'm just a little old school teacher that's all right baby if you know who Jesus is I think that because you work minimum wage that you don't have anything to contribute to the work of God but can I tell you if you know who Jesus is it doesn't matter how much you make it doesn't matter where you came from or what welcome light you live that when you know who Jesus is I you can share the simplicity of the doctrine you can lay hands on the sick and see them recover when you know who Jesus is you can cast out Devils when you know who Jesus is you're joined with a heavenly host that is singing holy holy holy is the lamb when you know who Jesus here's you walked around expecting a miracle because you know that Jesus is a miracle worker when you know who Jesus here's you walk around expecting a healing huh because you know Jesus is a healer holy ghost now you know who Jesus here's how you walk around expecting deliverance because you know that he's a deliverer you walk around looking for a way because you know that he's a waymaker you walk around looking for provisioner because when you know who Jesus is you know he's a provider he's a protector he's a savior I know it's simpler but Peter when you're right and I've learned but you begin to preach about who Jesus is 3000 are gonna be fiora and that's gonna add to the church daily Oh Peter you're not a doctor but you got the revelation up the body works you see my personal opinion Luke would

have been there he would have been a little bit sketchy to think about it when he sees the man that's laying by the gate that's called beautiful he's been laying 30 years he's never walked and walking as we know is a process that's learned and Luke could have looked at him as a doctor and said well if God heals him it's gonna take him six to eight weeks before he learns how to balance herself if God heals him it's gonna take him a couple months before he learns how to walk and within six months he might be running Peter don't know all Peter knows this who Jesus yes Peter don't know how the body works Peter don't know that this man's bones are probably soft because he's been laying by the wayside for thirty years Peter don't know that he don't have any strength in his muscles he's never leaked before in his life and so it's impossible for him to leap and so it's Peter walks in and the young man asks for money he looks at him and says silver and gold have I none but let me tell you what I do have I have a revelation I have a revelation of who Jesus is and what's inside of me it's greater than the thing that's holding you down so rise up and walk in the Bible says that that young man that had never walked her began to leap and runner glod took the process of learning to walk the sinner took six eight months a year and he confined it down to just a moment because somebody had a revelation that this is simple but faith still works huh faith can still move mountains huh faith can still heal you faith can still help you faith will reach down to where you are and pull you up off of that kada and get you to walk in a and singing praises unto the Lord let me just show you that there's a God that's greater and there's Peter begins to set the pace he's unlearned but he's showing he's setting a way for people that are going to come after him because there's a man that's gonna be real smart behind it and he's gonna set at the feet of the male and he's wise and he he knows exactly how to win acute arguments he knows what to do in a court of law he's a Pharisee of Pharisees he's got it all figured out Paul sets down and he struck out because he can't figure it out his intellect ain't working this time his intellect is not telling people how to be saved his intellect not reaching people and getting them into the baptistry into the baptistry tank it's not reaching out and it's not getting people to the altar and so Paul after he struck out just a couple times he finally comes to us with sin and stands up and says all I came to tell you is Christ Jesus Christ and him crucified see Paul got the revelation that my wisdoms not working because my wisdom is the wisdom of this world my wisdoms not working because as long as you try to argue with people with earthly and ideologies you're never gonna win them over but once you start talking to them I know it's simple but if you just try it I'm telling you it'll change the way cuz in the end at the very end of the moment there's nobody can deny what you've experienced you might you might be smarter than me or any other preacher in Pentecost now I'm not very smart but there's some smart ones out there and you might be able to somehow or another put them in a corner I highly doubt it but you might be able to you might think you're smart enough to get somebody that know that really don't know much about the Bible and turn them around and get them convinced that this is not real but let me just tell you something you will never get anybody that's experienced the Holy Ghost to deny its power because once you've tasted of this great Holy Ghost there's nothing in the world you'd be like Paul and just stand up and say all I know to tell you I'm not smart enough to figure it out but Jesus Christ and him crucified and he's living inside of me and there's not a devil in hell or out of hell that's gonna take that from me you might be smarter than me but you can't take my experience huh you can't take what God has given me it's simple but it still works it still works it still works it's so simple that even the devil can preach it because you find and Luke chapter 4 I'm

gonna take your Excuse today there's a lot of people that are there connected to the church that say well I would but I just don't know how to explain it I would I would help and I would teach Bible studies and I would outreach but I don't know how to explain it but read the Bible and Luke chapter 4 and verse 40 it says now when the son setting all day that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him him being Jesus and he laid his hands on every one of them and He healed them what's this verse 41 and The Devil's also came out crying out and saying thou art the Christ the Son of God what's happening here is the Devils are running around and given a testimony to who Jesus is and if the devil can testify of who he is why would you have any excuse to sit down and say I'm not gonna tell anybody about Jesus huh why would you cross your arms huh and get a better attitude and say I'm not gonna reach out and help anybody I don't know what to say well has he ever healed you has he ever delivered you has he ever made away you just tell somebody I know the oume because I've tried him and he works huh your testimony is the greatest sermon that anybody could ever preach your testimony is the greatest message he can put your broken family back together again but it's simple John chapter 5 and verse 16 and therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus sought to slay him because he had done these things on the Sabbath day but jesus answered them my father worketh here too and then he said these words and I work you know what you need to tell him same thing Jesus told him Jesus works he works if you're broken he works if you're not he works if you're rich Jesus works if you're poor Jesus works in the morning and Jesus works at night it doesn't matter where you are Jesus so working that simple preacher yep it is but you just tried and watching see because it works you just opened up the Word of God and begin to read the words of read and watch and see if they don't start speaking to you Watson see if they don't start working in your situation well I need a no no you don't need to know you I guarantee you if you woke up in the morning and somebody had deposited a million dollars in your bank and you called the bank and said how did he get there and they said somebody put it in there and you said well who did it and they said well we can't tell you I promise you you're not gonna not spend the money because you don't know who gave it to you you gonna take what you was given to you and you're gonna use it how in the world would you use that monetarily but not use it spiritually but you don't have to know how everything works huh you just need to know that it works huh you just need to know that it'll heal you I'm not here today to beat you over the head and tell you give you a study of 17 hours of this is how you gotta do it and you gotta go through all these steps and we understand that there are steps that you got to go through but you need to believe in one God get baptized in his name repent of your sins gonna fill you with the Holy Ghost you start figuring it all out because revelation I'll start coming up this really does work it really does work it really works okay that's fine you sentence in your dysfunction all you won't do but I'm gonna keep living for God why because it works explain it no just try it just keep trying I'm telling you I'm 28 years old and I'm still trying it and it's still working and there's still things that are as the musicians are coming I'm almost done but there's still things that I'm opening my eyes huh and God just starts making way after way after way after way after way I'm still watching now I'm still amazed as God starts working and God starts healer and I thought I knew all I could know about him but then I start reading his word and I find a little bit more about him and I thought he'd done all that he could do but then I turn around in another miracle after the Holy Ghost I

thought I saw all that I was gonna see but in the midnight hour when somebody called on the name of Jesus huh something began to happen something begin to move kappa get the heal God showed up and begin to work I'm telling you tonight happens that what you need to do is stop sitting on your couch and stop being depressed and just try Jesus cuz he's alright just try Jesus he'll make a way just try Jesus they really wanna come on if you've tried about you are to praise Him and let God come down where you are bless your spirit he works he works P words ha if you need a healin Jesus words huh if you did a miracle Jesus words huh if you need a breakthrough hey why it's really that simple just try and let it lie
