Sunday Morning Worship Service

thank you I got you thank you praise the Lord everybody praise the Lord what a tremendous honor it is to be at First Apostolic church and uh I am uh in your debt uh to stand in this Pulpit what a gift First Apostolic church is to the greater Knox Ville area I uh grew up here uh did not [Music] uh the Lord's been good didn't grow up an Apostolic Robert and the Joneses connected to my mom and dad longtime friends my dad was a bartender and probably a good one but about once every six months he'd bring us to First Apostolic Church in the old building we'd sit in the back my dad looked down the aisle he'd say now if you ever want to be saved these are the people hallelujah if you want to go to heaven these are the people I'm glad to be among the people this morning if you're here and you've never been in an Apostolic meeting you're in the right place at the right time because it's in an atmosphere like this that God can do absolutely anything he can change CH your life he can heal your body he can put your marriage back together he can set you free for he whom the son ha set free is free indeed I'm glad to be part of the church praise God praise God I ask because I don't remember a day it was before I was born that Bishop M came to East Tennessee and and uh and now truth is here because of his witness thank the Lord thank you Bishop M thank you for the legacy of First Apostolic church amen you have your Bibles this morning I would direct your attention to St Mark chapter 1 St Mark chapter 1 I do want to mention that if for some reason you were to gaze across the congregation you were to see a an individual that is built somewhat in stature like me but uh nevertheless not nearly as good-looking intellectual or has wisdom and insight in comparison that's my brother and he's here today uh his wife is sweet and we don't know how in the world that she saw past it all to marry him but she did and we're grateful for that and he's better for it amen uh my wife is here and they almost never all travel with me but they're all here today uh Natalie mallerie Rhett and Knox and I'm so thankful to have my family with me here today and then my aunt Pat and her daughter Amber are here and uh it's so good to be in Knoxville amen St Mark 1 verse number six and John was clothed with camel's hair and with a girdle of a skin about his loins and he did eat Locust and wild honey and preach saying there cometh one mightier than I after me the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose I indeed have baptized you with water but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and it came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized of John in the Jordan straightway coming up out of the water he saw the heavens opened and the spirit like a dove descending upon him and there came a voice from Heaven saying Thou Art my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased verse 12 and immediately the spirit driveth him into the Wilderness and immediately the spirit driveth him into the Wilderness and he was in the wilderness 40 days tempted of Satan and was with the wild beast and the the Angels ministered unto him Jesus the Messiah the text leads us down this Winding Road of this beautiful moment of baptism ironically the text Paints the picture of the Messiah being baptized in the Jordan and this powerful word from the spirit affirms his position as the Messiah what a day what a day when recognition comes to those that are gathered at the Waters of baptism and the spirit affirms who the Messiah is this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased what a moment however it is it's the moments following the moment the Bible said immediately it was the spirit that drove Jesus Into the Wilderness I want to say here just to prep my remarks that I hate the desert I hate it I wasn't built for its temperatures I don't like its isolation I hate crisis moments but I can tell you that the word says that man born of woman is a few days in full of trouble and if you're in this room and you're not in a desert today your desert time will come I hate the desert I hate the crisis moments I hate the trials I hate what it causes in me as we look in the mirror and begin to question our purpose and our God callings because of the crisis moment the truth is I didn't come today just to preach about the desert if the Lord will help me I want to tell you what happens when you come out of it your moment in the desert is unevitable but there is a day that you're going to step Across the Threshold of promise and I want to help somebody in this Apostolic room your trouble will not last always but there's coming a day while you have lived in your crisis and in your struggle and you have questioned your identity you're going to have a God moment where God connects you with your Divine Purpose and you find that greater is he that is within you than he that's in the world why don't you put your hands together and praise the Lord amen if the Lord will help me for just a few moments this morning I want to preach to you the emphasis is on The Exodus the emphasis is on The Exodus would you lift your hands and invite the Holy Ghost to walk in this room Lord we love you we thank you for your word today we thank you Lord that every promise in This Book Is Ours I pray God that you would speak to this assembly give us Clarity and Direction and we give you praise and glory and honor in Jesus name would you clap your hands to the Lord God bless you you can be seated Jesus the Messiah whom the Bible said was in always tempted like as we are yet without sin it's this verse that lends itself to the idea that perhaps Christ approached he Showdown with Satan with a choice the choice to choose his sinless messiahship or opt for possibly a lesser life sentence death is inevitable but its prolonging and change in methodology had to appeal to the Flesh of Jesus Christ however it is in this text that the word reminds us that it was the spirit that drove Jesus Into the Wilderness can I stop here and make this parenthetical statement to all of us apostolics who have gathered here on a Sunday morning that the spirit ought to be the driving force in every life the spirit in fact John said it this way in John 16 when the spirit of Truth is come it will lead and guide you into all truth the spirit ought not just be part of a checklist for us spiritual principles ought not just be part of a checklist for all of us and we prayed our 15 minutes check we've read our Bible check we've uh you know just kind of navigated our way through what we consider to be our responsibilities spiritually the spirit ought to be the driving force in our life can I help you the spirit ought to tell you where to go to school and the spirit ought to tell you who you ought to marry and the spirit ought to tell you navigate you through the challenges on your job can I remind this church that we are a spirit-led body that's who we are that you were baptized in his name that you were filled with his Spirit and the spirit should orchestrate every step Romans 8 chapter 14 says or as many as are led by the spirit they are the sons of God I want to say this and I'll be careful you can fix it all when I'm done but we've adopted this philosophy that birth is enough that we believe that because that we were baptized in his name and filled with his spirit that the walk ends there but sunship is not about birth in fact you can show up to an orphanage this morning and you can see people who have a biological father but they have no inheritance because they are not led by the father but he said ye who are led by the spirit you are the sons of God sunship is based on your ability to find what the spirit is doing and get in lock step with the voice of the Lord can I help somebody is you ought to have the spirit navigating you through every moment in your life we Are Spiritual people we were born in the spirit but you who are born in the spirit must be led of the spirit we need the spirit at work we need the spirit at work in every life in fact Cornelius who should be the hero to every Apostolic I get I get that we enjoy the wonderful stories of such Mainline characters in The Holy RIT but really our hero ought to be Cornelius because Cornelius saw Calvary before he could ever experience Calvary Cornelius got a revelation because he was committed to the Lord even when he couldn't have salvation you know we got these little I I know I'm feeling right at home okay but we we got all of these little issues and we ask these questions brother Whitley like is this a heaven or hell issue I can't tell you how many people I've had show up to my office over the years and say now Pastor is this a heaven or hell issue now I'm a bad pastor because my answer is always the same dumb question because here's what I've found over the years if someone's asking is this a heaven or hell issue they're just wanting me to affirm their poor decision they're not there to get direction they're there to get affirmation about the poor decision that they're already making I want to help somebody the issue is not whether it's a heaven or hell issue the issue is does this please the Lord and if I'm headed this direction am I being led by the spirit I'm preaching in an Apostolic assembly that believes emphatically that our lives ought to be led of the spirit Cornelius opened the partition to an entire demographic a Believer because he didn't believe that you lived on minimums but you were led by the [Applause] spirit I hate the desert I wasn't built for it I Pastor in Kansas City and if I have meetings in St Louis I get to about the Green Valley exit before I got to call somebody I don't know if you know this but I got to be talking I'd L rather preach than hear somebody else preach cuz I like to do the talking in fact my brother agreed to come to church this morning brother MCO and what he said was this is the only way that I'm going to be held hostage long enough to hear everything you want to say don't negotiate with terrorists you don't need any hostage negotiators I hate the desert I hate how it makes you feel and I also hate brother Jones the loneliness that comes with the desert to qualify geographically as a desert it has to be sparsely populated and it has to have less than 10 inches of rain per year what that tells me is if you're in the demographic of people that it's been a long time since the winds and Waters of Revival have revived your soul and you're just living in a desert and it doesn't seem like there's anybody around that can affirm you and make you feel like you're going to navigate through this just fine I hate being alone and I hate without the refreshing Waters of the spirit I hate the desert but it's in the desert that the devil shows up you know he don't show up when the choir singing he don't show up when you're in Revival and the Holy Ghost is moving and everybody's life is being redeemed and you just have a plethora of people that are receiving the spirit for the first time he don't show up then but you wait till you go through your crisis moment and in the middle of your desert the enemy is going to show up and he's going to cause you to question who you are what your God mission is and what the purpose of your life is Jesus is in the desert and the devil shows up and the devil starts to question his identity if you are who you claim to be I hate it I hate it when the enemy starts asking questions that causes me to ask questions if you really are who you claim to be if you really are the Son of God if you really are called if you really are anointed if you really are saved I'm telling you the enemy will show up in your crisis and make you question whether you're saved or not he'll show up in your crisis moment and cause you to question whether you have a god purpose or not he'll cause you to question your faith and your identity he'll cause you to question the miraculous because that's what the enemy does is SE questions in the Twilight of your coming out had a lady in my church one Sunday Holy Ghost was moving I stepped off the platform when I laid my hands on her head she started speaking in tongues as the spirit gave the utterance and that week she called me she said pastor I'm going to be honest with you I don't think I got the Holy Ghost well I was praying with her now it was clear to me and everybody including her when she left but somehow in the week the enemy had worked on her caused her to question who she was and caused her to have some struggles in her spirit and I said well let me let me just ask this one question why is it that every other negative thing that goes through your mind you don't have any question about its authenticity how come you still believe you're an addict how come you still believe that God can't set you free how come you still believe that God can't put your marriage back together again how come you still believe that you're not saved but the day he fills you with the baptism of the Holy Ghost and you speak with tongues when he transforms your life you can't believe that God would do that I'll tell you why because the enemy wants you to question who you are and what your Divine Purpose is so it is Jesus is in the desert nie enemies question his identity and and then he has no human affirmation you don't have a human voice patting him on the back knowing it's going to be all right you're going to make it Jesus if you'll hang in there it's going to be okay I want to remind you that the greatest Revelations I've ever received I didn't receive with a partner I received alone in my own desert as the Holy Ghost navigated me through the struggles of my life and the truth is that some of our deserts not all of them but many of the deserts have been orchestrated by God that's right oh you don't hear me sometimes the Bible said in immediately he was directed of the spirit and the spirit didn't take him to a mountain and the spirit didn't take him to the seaside the spirit took him to the Wilderness because in the wilderness in your questioning and in your struggle and in your battle it's where you find out who you really are I'm going to tell you sometimes you just need a little battle because it's in the middle of the battle that you can be put in your God position and find out what your God purpose is and you get connected to your true anointing Jesus Jesus walks out of the desert and the first words out of his mouth is recorded in Luke 4 when he quotes the prophet Isaiah the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach Deliverance to the captives the recovering of sight to the blind to set at Liberty them that are bruised to preach the acceptable year of the Lord and he closed the book and gave it to the minister and sat down and the eyes of them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him and he began to say to them this day this day this day is the scripture fulfilled in your ear in other words Jesus said I've been in the wilderness but I found what my purpose was but I don't have to stay in the wilderness I'm coming out but I'm coming out with anointing and I'm coming out with authority and I'm coming out with spiritual recognition let me remind you you may be in the desert today but you are not going to stay there always you're going to step Across the Threshold of promise and when you come out the spirit of the Lord Jesus comments in Luke chapter 4 transliterated Jesus said I have jurisdiction now I feel like reging when Jesus came out of the Wilderness when he said the spirit of the Lord is upon me for he hath anointed me to preach the gospel the recovering of sight to blind if you translate the text it translates this way I have jurisdiction yes sirud that word jurisdiction means the rights that are granted by the speaking of the law he was telling us a little bit of something about our destiny and that is don't you dare remain silent in the desert don't you dare remain silent in your battle you have jurisdictional authority the rights that are granted by the speaking of the law some of you need to open your mouth I said you need to open your mouth greater is he that is within you than he that's in the world I don't have to be controlled by this spirit I don't have to be controlled by this battle this trial will not Define me but greater is he that's in me than he that's in the world the enemy is not going to destroy my family he's not going to destroy my marriage he's not going to destroy my finances he's not going to destroy my house greater is he that's within you than he that's in the world Hallelujah some of you need to open your mouth mouth you can't have my kids you can't have my church you can't have my faith you can't have my health greater is he greater is he greater is he I'm going tell you we allow stuff yes sir we let it yes sirach it Ephesians says this neither give place to the devil I got to study what that meant and a modern text translates it this way brother Anthony run the devil off I like it yeah run the devil off I'm going to tell you some of you need to open your mouth and get in the middle of the battle because the enemy is fighting you with fear and depression and anxiety and he's trying to control your mind and your spirit and you need to stand up emphatically and run the enemy off there is a God who is able to do exceeding and abundantly above all you can ask or think according to the power that worketh in you my goodness wooo I I get to read the story of David and if you read the text Bible said that David the Philistines encamped on one side of the mountain and the Israelites encamped on the other side of the mountain and they did battle in the valley of Eli go read that text one more time because the Bible said that when David confronted Goliath it said for the giant had come up Philistines are on one side Israel's on the other there's a valley beneath where Goliath will go and camp and he'll belch out his blasphemy send me out of man that we may do battle but long enough without con confronting it he's going to March into your camp and take everything you got that's right I'm going to tell you there are too many families that are eeking out peace treaties with the Enemy Jesus oh you don't hear me some of you you've signed peace treaties with your children and you've signed peace treaties with your enemy and you're signing away your faith because you're not willing to make a bold declaration of war against your enemy David walked into that and said no no no no no you can't walk into this Camp you can't have my church you can't have my faith you can't have my man of God you can't you can't have my wife you can't have my husband you can't have my mind you can't have my spirit my goodness Glory David walks out in the valley of Eli and he's doing battle with the Giant and the Bible said that the giant walks to David's confrontation and David said who is this uncircumcised Philistine that would defy the armies of the Lord who is he did your mom ever say to you who do you think you are I'm about to beat you like you stole something I don't know who your Mama must have not been from brille cuz we didn't get whipped or we didn't get you know spanked we got whooped I saw my brother said you know that boy needs to be whooped in a circle here's a problem that boy ain't been whooped in a circle let me just speak your language here Goliath's about to get whooped in a circle because somebody had made a decision that you don't control the atmosphere here anymore you don't dictate the direction of this nation one more day and if some of you want to have victory today you can have it but you're going to have to confront your enemy and say not one more day are you going to live controlling my mind controlling my spirit or controlling my destiny Hallelujah Go's got David's got something on his side David's got a little something on his side because he says who who is that uncircumcised Philistine yeah that would defy the armies of the Lord now I'll be honest with you I don't believe this theological uh garbage can I just pray it up that way I could use a better word but that says that Goliath suffered from giantism and he couldn't even see David and he couldn't and it kind of paints a theological picture of him unable to engage in battle because he's feeble and ill equipped I don't believe that at all you know why because you don't become a champion by losing that's right now we know a little bit about that around here six-time National Champion BS we know we know but you don't become a champion by losing no sir this is what I believe I believe that some of the ears that are on the Belt that serve as Goliath's trophy from battles in the past are the reason why Israel is intimidated to do battle that's right so true consider this that if the Philistines and the Israelis are at War and the Bible said that the giant of the Philistines had come up I wonder who he's won those battles against there you go so the guy sitting in the tent peering out across the valley as Goliath comes out and says send me out of man he remembers when he became an orphan because his dad got killed in a battle to Goliath and he remembers when Granddad fell to Goliath I feel a little help in this room what they are fighting is a generational curse they're fighting something that Generations have fallen in battle to but David said there's something on me that wasn't on the generation before and God had sent me to have Victory I want to tell somebody in this room I don't care what your granddad was I don't care what your daddy was I don't care what your siblings have been God has a promise for you you don't have to fail to addiction you don't have to fail to fear and depression and anxiety there is a Victorious God that is working on your [Applause] behalf I'm almost done you know what that means nothing David David said to Goliath who is this uncircumcised Philistine that would defy the armies of the Lord now I'm gonna help somebody in this room I'm going to preach you happy tonight but he spoke about the armies in a plurality that the Giants never heard he said who is this uncircumcised Philistine well if you look at what circumcision meant it was a sign of Covenant and so he's just calling him out for being out of Covenant he said why are you afraid of all this stuff that's out of Covenant let me ask the Apostolic Church why are you trying to find your value in people that only even live in Covenant you're looking around the Christian Community trying to figure out what your values are and you're getting your values from people that don't live in Covenant if you want to win then you live in Covenant because there is a covering that comes only in your Covenant [Applause] Glory Hallelujah and then he said they would defy the armies of the Lord he's speaking of them in a plurality I know what the Giants thinking we're just looking at one one Army and they're feeble but I believe what David was reminding the giant of there is a supernatural Army that is at my back for the angel of the Lord encampeth around about them that fear Him and are called according to his purpose the Supernatural is working on your behalf to ensure your victory stand to your feet all over the room Jesus Jesus came out of the Wilderness hear me now and he came out with authority but are you ready he also came out with Revival the Bible said that when Jesus came out of the Wilderness he made disciples can I help you I believe the Lord gives you authority over what you've been through that's right yes he let me just sew a little hope in this room if you've had cancer and somebody walks down to this alter and needs prayer for cancer you ought to be the first one down here putting your hand on them you know why because he gives you authority over what you've been through if you've gone through a divorce and God's seen you through and giv you hope every time a or SE walks down to this altar you ought to come put your hand on their head because you have authority over what you've been through if you are sick in your body if you are struggling from anxiety depression and fear you need to walk down this altar you need to put your hand on the person that is neck deep in counseling and take authority over what they're navigating through because you got authority over your desert but he come out brother Whitley he come out with Revival I feel a word in my spirit that there is a Revival in this church that this building will not contain W I've come to preach to somebody in this room you may have gone through the desert but when you come out you're coming out with jurisdictional authority the rights that are granted by the speaking of the law but on the other side of that is a Revival that your building will not contain because Revival is the byproduct of your desert [Applause] Victory I was a youth pastor in Memphis there's a lady in our church named donda and if you met donda you e either got saved or mad or both she was the manager of the chiropractic clinic and so one day Pastor Brookings from Living Water Baptist Church came to the Chiropractic Clinic he said donda how are you doing today she said good she said pastor Brookings you know what you need he said no ma'am she said you the baptism of the Holy Ghost evidence by speaking with tongues he laughed he came back the next week he smiled she said pastor Brookings do you know what you need he said let me guess she said that's right you need the baptism of the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking with other tongues two weeks later he calls a the church office he said uh I've been on a three-day fast he said in the middle of this three-day fast he said the Lord spoke to me and said that what you need is in that big old Pentecostal church over there he said would it be all right if we came to worship with you on a Sunday morning about three Sunday mornings later Living Water Baptist Church's bus pulled up on the parking lot 55 members in their bus when they left 35 of them were talking in tongues as the spirit gave the utterance I don't know what you've been through but I know what's going to happen when you cross the precipice of the desert you've been living in you have authority over what you've been through and you have a Revival that your building will not contain somebody needs to have a little recognition come on them this morning that I'm not here to stay but there is a day that I'm going to step out of this Wilderness and the greatest moments of my life are in front of me not behind thank you I'm done I wondered I wondered why it was that Jesus said that the spirit took him immediately into the desert brother hmer I've been to the desert and I hate them and I don't like how they make me feel and I can stand in this pulpit and paint you a picture of struggle how to navigate those Waters where your faith is questioned and your identity is in crisis I can promise you brother Jones that of all the ways I've gone into the desert immediately is not the way I've gone dragged Kicking and Screaming I've been pushed into it I can't even tell you how many different ways but walking immediately has not been the way so I questioned the text why is it that so immediately after after baptism does Christ go to the Wilderness and I realize he's only three and a half years from Calvary if there's going to be a church at thessalonica he's got to go to Calvary if blind eyes are going to be open and deaf ears unstopped and the lame are going to walk if there's going to be a Pentecost he's only got three and a half years to get from baptism to Calvary so it is that I've wondered today as I've traveled this wonderful Fellowship why is it that people seem to be navigating through hell at an unprecedented Pace why is it there's such an identity crisis why is it that there's so many people that their families are in turmoil and there are challenges and crisis that seem to be insurmountable that show up in the lives of Believers all over our wonderful fellowship and then I realize brother Whitley it's because Jesus is about to come and just like Christ had to move rapidly to Calvary so that we could all be forgiven because there'll be no fac if he don't immediately go to Calvary but can I remind you that Jesus is about to come and he's coming back after a church who have made herself ready without spot and without recal without blemish and if you're going to be ready to go to heaven you need to get ready today [Applause] today turn on your news [Music] broadcast somebody else is entering the war on Israel and then they're Waring on another two fronts and then a earthquake shows up in Afghanistan and my Bible said there'll be wars and rumors of wars there'll be earthquakes in diverse places Jesus is about to come and Gabriel's going to put his lip to the trumpet and the dead in Christ shall rise first and those of us that are alive and remain we'll be caught up to meet him in the air we're going to heaven we're going to [Applause] heaven lift your hands and open your hearts all over this [Music] house Jesus is coming I said Jesus is coming you need the Holy Ghost you need to be a spirit-led church you got to be a spirit-led family Jesus is coming woo W if you're in this room and you need a touch from the Lord why don't you come stand right here in the front if you need the Holy Ghost why don't you come stand right here God's in this room to give you a miracle [Music] today there you go now just lift your hands and open your hearts woo by the authority of the name of Jesus by the power of the word of God let there be signs wonders and miracles in this [Music] house is not my St you are yeah yeah somebody lift your hands open your mouth and say I'm not staying here today is my day I'm not going to live here say [Music] ohjah Hallelujah I want you to be ready to sing again in just a moment but I want us to do [Music] something I want you to understand that last battle ground that would keep you from getting what you need from the Lord today is doing what the man of God's told you to do there's some things you're going to have to speak out yes he knows what you're thinking but the last Battleground to keep you from getting what you want is to speak out victory in jesus' name for you see that tongue you've got that's that unruly member that you got to give over to the Lord I want some folks today to pray loud enough that you can hear yourself pray I know you may be thinking in your mind but you need to claim some victory verbally and then let the power of the Holy Ghost start ministering through you he wants to use you as a conduit to speak through you we're going to go to prayer again in just a minute whatever you're facing whatever desert and Wilderness you've been in I want you to claim victory speak it verbally in jesus' name call on the name of Jesus and let's let the power of the Holy Ghost do some Miracles through our mouth today and let him have your tongue let's pray right now Lord Jesus we come before you right now we rebuke every trial and every test we rebuke everything that would come against the man of God that would come against the woman of God that would come
