Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Jesus, All God and All Man

  • Day three's statement is simple but often overlooked: Jesus prayed.
  • Jesus was all God and all human at the same time; wrapped in flesh, even he needed access to heaven.
  • Hebrews 4:15 says we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Scriptures: Hebrews 4:15

What Jesus Did in Private

  • Jesus set an example in every aspect of life; being Christ-like is more than avoiding what he did not do — steal, kill, or lie — it is doing what he did.
  • In public he ministered to the sick, the poor, and the hurting, cared for the downtrodden, and showed mercy; what he did in private matters even more — he found a place in prayer.
  • If the Savior himself bowed down to pray and dedicated time to communicate with heaven, we need it too; he could not have fulfilled his ministry without prayer, and the same is true for each of us.

Learn to Pray the Way Jesus Prayed

  • The devotional closes by urging us to pray the way Jesus prayed: for the concerns of our lives, for the power of God to move through our church, and for our pastor's encouragement and strength as he seeks to lead the flock.
  • Say to the Lord, 'Teach me to pray,' and he will.

Closing Prayer

  • He thanks Jesus for this morning and the privilege of starting the day with him, and for being our perfect example.
  • Prayer is not only for requesting our needs; it establishes a supernatural connection with God, who desires a relationship and wants to communicate with us.
  • He prays that we would set aside time for God even when we do not feel like it, remembering that even Jesus prayed.

Scripture index: Hebrews 4:15.

All right. Good morning. My name is Jeff sailing, and welcome to day three of 21 Days a Breakthrough Prayer with the Pentecostals of Murfreesboro and LifeBridge Church. I'm so glad that you could join us as we go through this devotional. Each day someone new will share their thoughts on one day of the devotional, and I encourage you to go back and catch up on the previous days if you haven't already. Day three is titled Jesus Prayed. This is such a simple, obvious statement, but one that I think a lot of us overlook.

We know that Jesus is God, but he was also a man, all God and all human at the same time. And because he was wrapped in flesh, even he needed access to heaven. The Bible tells us that Jesus struggled in the same way that we do. He was sinless, but he was also tempted. Hebrews 4:15 says, for we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Jesus set an example and showed us how to live out every aspect of our lives. It's easy to point out that he didn't steal, kill, or lie, which are all great things not to do. But being a Christian, or being Christ-like, is so much more than focusing on what he didn't do, and instead focusing on what he did do. Jesus ministered to the sick, poor, and hurting. He cared for the downtrodden and showed mercy to society's worst. But most importantly, he loved. All of these things he did in public, for all to see. What he did in private is even more important: he found a place in prayer.

If our Savior, the creator of all the heavens and earth, bowed down the pray, if even he thought that it was important to dedicate time to communicate with heaven, what do you think that means for us? I believe Jesus wouldn't have been able to fulfill his ministry and do the miraculous if he had not found time to pray, and I believe the same is true for each and every one of us. I like the last paragraph on this day three. It says, learn to pray the way Jesus prayed: for the concerns in your life, for the power of God to move through your church, and for the encouragement and strength of your pastor, as he seeks to lead the flock. Say to the Lord yourself, teach me to pray, and he will.

I'd like to say a quick print. Jesus, thank you for this wonderful morning and the privilege of starting to stay off with you. I want to thank you for being our perfect example. If we ever get to the point where we wonder why we pray or what good it does, let us remember that you desire a relationship with us, and you want to communicate with us. Prayer is not just for us to request our needs, but to establish a supernatural connection with you. Let us never forget to set aside time for you, even when we don't feel like it. And let us remember that even you prayed.

Well, thank you for joining me for day 3, titled Jesus Prayed. Take some time today to read the devotional for yourself if you haven't already, and join us live again tomorrow at 7 a.m. with day 4, as we discuss I Love the Lord. Have a wonderful day.
