Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
He brought me out of many waters
- He opens by calling the congregation to give God a hand-clap of praise, testifying that he is worthy of it.
- He testifies that the psalm's word — he brought me out of many waters — is his own testimony as well.
- He says he can never read that word without thinking of Moses, whose testimony it first was.
An ark prepared for the Nile
- Egypt's counselors told Pharaoh the coming deliverer could only be killed by water, so the baby boys were thrown into the Nile.
- Moses' mother hid him as long as she could, then prepared a little ark, because she knew he still had to go into the water like every other child.
- He presses the parents present: every child will have to go to the river one day, but while they are young the parents can prepare an ark of safety — and that ark today is the church of the living God.
- Pharaoh's daughter took him out of the water, and he was named Moshe — brought out of water — a name that testified for the rest of his life.
Out of the Red Sea and the waters of Mara
- God's first plague on Egypt struck the Nile — the very weapon designed to kill the deliverer.
- At the Red Sea, God brought Moses out of that water.
- A few days later, at the waters of Mara, God brought him out again — time after time, Moses was brought out of many waters.
The rock, the refused prayer, and the river he could not cross
- Near the end of his life the people complained of thirst, and God told Moses to speak to the rock, but in anger he struck it twice instead.
- God told him that because he had not believed and had not sanctified him before Israel, he would not take the people into the promised land.
- Moses begged to cross the Jordan and see Lebanon, but God instead led him to the top of the mountain, where he died and God buried him.
- The law is a schoolmaster that leads to the Messiah: Moses can take us to the river, but only Jesus can take us across — and Moses handed the reins to Joshua, whose name is the equivalent of Jesus.
The mountain where the prayer was answered
- On the mount of transfiguration Moses stood with Jesus and Elijah on the very border of Israel and Lebanon, in sight of the land he had prayed to see — God answered Moses' prayer that day.
- The lesson he draws: there are many waters God will bring you out of, but sometimes the only way out of a watery trial is to get into the presence of the living water, whose name is Jesus.
- He closes by encouraging the church that Jesus the living water is still taking people out of many waters today, whatever the trial, and asks who can testify to it.

if you love him today let's give him a hand clap of praise he's worthy isn't he the bible declares in the psalms that he brought me out of many waters is there anyone in this place that can testify that same word that he has brought you out of many waters i can never think about or read that scripture without thinking about moses moses has a very interesting testimony we know that it was the plan of god that he would be the deliverer for the children of israel out of the land of egypt the historical commentaries tell us that the sorcerers and magicians of pharaoh had counseled pharaoh that the only way to kill this future deliverer of israel was to kill him with water there are many ways to kill an individual but pharaoh was very specific that these baby boys should be thrown into the nile river and this was the way that they counseled him to snuff out the deliverer of egypt or of israel it's an interesting thing because the bible tells us that the mother of moses hid him away because they saw that he was a goodly child some interesting thoughts about what it was that they saw but besides all of that she began to prepare a little ark for her baby the reason is because she knew i've still got to put my baby in this water but this little while that i have him i'm going to prepare an ark you see there's probably a side note here for all of the parents in this place every child is going to have to go to the nile river every child but while we have them we have a choice to prepare a little ark what is that ark today it's the church of the living god we have just a little while to prepare an ark of safety for our babies it's interesting because the bible tells us that the daughter of pharaoh came down to the nile river and saw him there and took him out of the water and it was because of this the bible says that they named him in hebrew moshe which means brought out of water but this was not the end of the story of moses's water experiences you see moses received a name that would be a testimony to him and to others for the rest of his life and even for all of us today he was brought out of water the thing that was designed to kill him to curse him just so happened to be the very first thing that god cursed in the ten plagues that were upon egypt god is very specific he said there's a lot of curses i'm going to bring on egypt but i'm going to start with the thing that they designed to kill the deliverer of my people in egypt so the bible tells us not too many days after that that they came upon the red sea and when they came upon the red sea god brought him out of that water a few days later came upon the waters of mara god brought him out of that water and time after time after time moses was brought out of many waters but there's something very interesting that we find at the end of moses's life he was in another watery trial we can say and the bible tells us that the children of israel were all complaining because they were thirsty i love what the bible says the bible tells us that moses gathered the whole congregation around the rock we're familiar with the story god had told him to speak to the rock before their eyes but what did he do he was angry he was frustrated so instead he hit the rock not once but twice and water came out but god told him because you did this you can't take them into the land of israel in fact the scripture declares that god told him because you believed me not to sanctify me before the eyes of the children of israel neither shall you take this people into the land that i have promised them moses begged god in fact moses prayed to god and said god i want to go across this river jordan i want to see that great mountain even lebanon i want to see it with mine eyes and god the bible says that god was wroth with moses would this be the first watery trial that god did not take him out of well we know that moses was led to the top of pisca there he died and there god buried him but the bible tells us as we know the law is a school master that leads us to the messiah moses can take us to the river but only jesus can take us across the river and the bible tells us very clearly moses got them to the jordan but he handed the reigns of authority over to joshua which in hebrew is yahshua the equivalent to the name jesus which was assigned to us to look out for the only one that had the potential to take us across the river and so the bible tells us later on during the life of the messiah during his ministry we all know about the mount of transfer oh i'm about to shout here on sunday morning the mount of transfiguration the bible says there upon that mountain met jesus elijah and moses where was this mount it was the mount of transfiguration which is called that great mountain god answered the prayer of moses where does the mount of transfiguration sit it sits on the very border of israel and lebanon from that mountain you can even see the great land of lebanon also god answered that prayer of moses on that day but he taught all of us a very important lesson that there are many waters that he will bring you out of but sometimes the only way to get out of your watery trial you've got to get into the presence of the living water and his name is jesus and his name is above every name so i want to encourage you today jesus the living water is still taking people out of many waters i don't care what your watery trial is he's ready to bring you out today is there anybody in this place that can testify he brought me out of many waters let's give the lord a handclap of praise today come on pastor
