Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

A world full of boxes

  • We live in a world full of boxes: mailboxes and post office boxes, the tee box and the penalty box and the batter's box, box cars, box seats, a box of chocolates, to-go boxes, the black box, and the ballot box.
  • Webster defines a box as a container — to be hemmed or enclosed in a small space or compartment — and even as a coffin.
  • The curse of the box is that it shows God his parameters: God, you can do anything you want, as long as it is within my box.

The text: the ark will not be missed

  • God calls his backsliding children home — "I am married unto you" — promising to take them one of a city and two of a family, bring them to Zion, and give them pastors according to his heart, who will feed them with knowledge and understanding.
  • When the people are multiplied and increased in the land, they will no longer speak of the ark of the covenant, neither remember it nor visit it; Jerusalem will be called the throne of God, and the nations will be gathered to the name of the Lord.
  • Rereading the passage in plainer English drives it home: the ark will not be reconstructed — not because it wasn't important, but because the Lord himself will be among his people.
  • One of the plagues on Pentecost is looking backward: our rearview mirror is bigger than our windshield, always wishing for the good old days, when God says our best days are still in front of us.

Scriptures: Jeremiah 3:14-17

Boxing God in — and boxing ourselves in

  • Too often Pentecostals box God in to our way of thinking — what we think is possible and attainable — and we box ourselves in with "I would love to do that, but I can't."
  • His ways are not our ways, and his thoughts are much higher than our thoughts; a box is a small space, and that is where we usually find ourselves hemmed in.
  • Churches stop growing not because God stops working or because there is no one else to be saved, but because they settle into boxes of tradition and ruts and become a maintaining church — and a church that is only maintaining is a miserable church, fighting, biting, and devouring one another.
  • It is not God's will for the church to simply maintain; it is his will for the church to grow, advance, and propagate the acts 2:38 message all over the world. Our God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think.

The ark was a box

  • One of the setbacks of the Old Testament was that the surest presence of God was kept in a box: the ark of the covenant was a plain wooden box overlaid within and without with pure gold — the Hebrew word itself can be translated ark, chest, or even coffin.
  • God promised to meet Moses at the ark, revelation was received there, and the blood of atonement was presented on it — but his presence was never limited to that box.
  • Israel began to regard the ark as a magical box with sacred powers, worshiping the box more than the God who was in the box, and forfeited the victory and peace they could have had every day.
  • There is nothing that can take the place of a good, Spirit-filled church service — every good thing in the preacher's life happened at church: he got the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus' name at church, felt his call, met and married his wife, dedicated his baby, and baptized his own daughter there.
  • But God must not be boxed into a building either: the believer's body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, and what goes on in here is as important as what goes on in the church house — victory is not limited to the walls of the church.

The wind blows where it listeth

  • John 3:8: "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."
  • The Old Testament kept God limited to a box and a bloodline; the new way does away with the box — from every tribe, kindred, tongue, and nation. What God wants to do in the last days cannot be contained in a geographical location, a building, or a box.
  • The heaven of heavens cannot contain him — heaven is his throne and the earth his footstool — so it is silly to confine him to our little boxes of religion, tradition, and faith, saying, "You can't heal anymore, because I haven't seen it."
  • God is not a Republican or a Democrat, not conservative or liberal, not a Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic, or even Pentecostal — he is God all by himself. He did not come to become like us; he came so we could become like him.

Scriptures: John 3:8

Jack-in-the-box theology

  • A jack-in-the-box: you turn the crank, listen to the music, and right on cue Jack shows up — and then we put Jack right back in the box until we want entertainment again. The problem is that Jack never gets out of the box.
  • The church does the same: we turn the crank, sing the songs, and almost on cue Jesus shows up and everybody enjoys it — then when the service ends we push him right back down and repeat the cycle on Wednesday. God doesn't want to be an entertainer.
  • Had Pentecost remained in the box on the day of Pentecost, nobody would have been added to the church; because they carried it outside, 3,000 were added in one day.
  • Quit letting the devil treat you like a jack-in-the-box: a man in a graveyard with 2,000 demons, naked and cutting himself, still came and worshiped God when he saw Jesus — you don't have to be perfect to worship God; come to Jesus as you are.

Break the box

  • A box is a coffin, and if you don't get out of it, it will bury you: when Joseph died in Egypt they put him in a box, but he charged them not to leave him there — when God brought them out, they were to carry him up to the promised land.
  • The only "box" named in the New Testament is the alabaster box: a woman came into Bethany, to the house of Simon the leper, with an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and she broke the box and poured it on Jesus' head — while some murmured that it might have been sold for more than 300 pence and given to the poor, Jesus said, "Let her alone; she hath wrought a good work on me."
  • She didn't neatly open the box — she broke it; the word means to crush into pieces. The perfume had sat on her dresser and served her sinful past; she broke the container itself so that no remnant of that past would remain to haunt her at home.
  • According to Luke 7, those who are forgiven much love much; and Jesus told the woman taken in adultery, "Go thy way and sin no more" — Pentecostals have no trouble with "sin no more," but we must also help people go their way, restored and healed.
  • Jesus went to Mark chapter 6, where because of the people's unbelief he could heal only a few — their box determined what he could do. The curse of the box is that it shows God his limits; the cure is to break it: the woman at the well left her waterpot behind, because she had tasted something better.
  • The banked capture ends during this closing appeal, with the invitation to break out of the box still in progress.

number three you ever just been somewhere you it's like that will say if you see a turtle on a fence post you know he didn't get there by himself you know I feel like I feel like a turtle on a fence post site over the carpet I feel like a fish out of water here but I appreciate you letting me come and appreciate you feeling sorry for me and allowing me and my wife to come and so always just so loved being around this church being around your pastor and his family very thankful our paths have crossed tonight we have some folks from Lexington Tabernacle with us brother and sister Wilkerson and their beautiful family and brother sister Rios and their beautiful son and soon-to-be daughter along the way and every pastor needs people like these good folks right here and I love them dearly and they have been nothing nothing but a blessing to to my wife and I a man well it's Tuesday night but it doesn't feel like Tuesday night what awesome presence of God swept in here we just want to fan that flame a little bit is that Alright Jeremiah chapter number three we'll start at verse number fourteen ternovec sliding children saith the Lord for I am married unto you and well and I will take you one of a city and two of a family and I will bring you to Zion and I will give you pastors according to mine heart which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding aren't you thankful for a good pastor in this church and it shall come to pass when you be multiplied and increased in the land in those days saith the Lord that they shall say no more the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord neither shall it come to my and neither shall they remember it neither shall they visit it neither shall that be done any more at that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of God and all the nations shall be gathered unto it to the name of the Lord to Jerusalem neither shall walk anymore after the imagination of their evil heart it sits the revival of God's people now I'm gonna reread a couple of those verses and they may have it on the screen I'm not sure but I'm gonna reread it out of the Living Bible just because I want the kind of the plain English to to kind of hit us in the face right here Oh sinful children come home for I am your master and I'll bring you again to the land of Israel one from here and two from there wherever you are scattered and I will give you leaders after my own heart who will guide you with wisdom and understanding then when your land is once more filled with people says the Lord you will no longer wish for the good old days of long ago when you possess the Ark of God's covenant those days will not be missed or even thought about and the ark will not be reconstructed not because it wasn't important but because the Lord Himself will be among you see I think one of the plagues that's that's plaguing Pentecost is we are constantly our rearview mirrors bigger than our windshield and we're constantly looking back going boy if we could get back to the good old days get back to when we really used to have Church pleasure go job well what we're missing is our best days are still in front of us and why go back to that when God says hey I'm here right now and I am filling your land every bad sermon needs a prop ever really bad sermon needs a lot of props and so we've got a humdinger of a bad sermon tonight but I want to talk for a few minutes and I preach too long last night I'm gonna try not to do that again and but we'll see what happens I want to talk about this the curse and the cure of this thing we call the Box the curse and the cure of this thing we call the box if you're gonna help me preach shout amen god bless you may be seated now I don't know if you've ever stopped to think about it and this is how my little old warped mind shallow mind thinks but we really do live in a world full of boxes at any given time we can be surrounded by various boxes and we can have big boxes and we can have small boxes and there are paper boxes and cardboard boxes and plastic boxes and metal boxes we use boxes to help us move and we use boxes to help us organize we have mail boxes and post office boxes and in boxes and of course sometimes I get a sermon or two from a thing called Dropbox and even even in sports box is a big deal in golf you've got the you got the tee box and when I play golf with these guys over here they they tee off from a different tee box than what I do from because I'm not built like some of them but that doesn't bother me anyhow in hockey you have the penalty box and in basketball or baseball it's called the batter's box we even have a sport called boxing in stadium we have box seats and press boxes in basketball we have the term box out and the bigger your box the better your box out I'll let that get that you'll think of that on the way home ah that's what he meant in the railroad industry we have box cars in the country music world we have the legendary box car Willie on Valentine's Day you got to get you sweetie a box of chocolates and restaurants we have to-go boxes in the airline industry it's called a black box Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are familiar with the ballot box when I was a young person we had this thing called a boom box we live in a world full of boxes Webster defines the word box like this a container or to be hemmed or enclosed in an often small space or compartment box this was interesting to me Webster even defines the word box as a coffin so my shout box now I'm happy tonight that I can tell you I've had the awesome opportunity to have been raised in and around Pentecost all of my life I did not really have to technically come from one denomination or one religious experience into this this is what I was introduced to when I was just a kid and I am thankful for that and I have no complaints being Pentecostal let me tell you like I told the kids today in Chapel when I point the microphone at you that's a good time to say Amen so I have no complaints being Pentecostal I'm not one of those that's trying to find a loophole in the lifestyle I'm not trying to water down our worship I don't think what we did up here earlier is gonna run off anybody that we need to keep I'm not one of those that's trying to redefine our doctrine I'm just real happy being Who I am living how I live doing what we do and being part of the great Church of Jesus Christ anybody thankful to be part of the church I think we just ought to hit pause and serve notice on the enemy and just let the devil know the church is not defeated it has never been defeated and it will never be defeated upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail I think we ought to just clap our hands and thank God for this blood Balt institution called the church somebody shot a man let me see the Lord's gonna touch us tonight now I don't know how it is well your family I'm sure that it's the same way and your family as it is in mine we've all got a few family members that we question are we really blood related people you can't probably talk about that real right now you might be sitting next to someone but would you just wonder but I'm a Tony therefore I can talk about the Tony's because I are one you're not a Tony therefore you don't have the right to say that's a strange bunch of folks right there you can't say that to us you can say it behind our backs you just better prove at least at least a couple of my brothers don't find out but you can't say it to my face because I'm not gonna let you talk about us but I can talk about us because I'm us I said that to say this I am a pentecostal I don't want somebody out there talking about us Pentecostals because they don't know what they're talking about but I'm gonna talk about us for a few minutes because one of the concerns that I have is that it seems too often we Pentecostals box God in to our way of thinking or into our ideas of what we think is possible and what we think is attainable and what we think we can do we say alright God this is what we believe we can do and the problem with that is we box God in and there's boxes spiritually all over this house right now some of them might be bigger than others but actually all of us have probably living in too small of a box and we're allowing God to small of an opportunity to really do what he wants to do and this creates a major problem because his ways are not our ways nor his thoughts are or his thoughts are much higher than our thoughts and not only do we do we box God in but too many times we box our sin elves in as well and we said well I would love to do that but I can't because it's just well I just can't do it and we've got all these definitions and all these reasons why we can't or can't do what we think God may or may not be calling us to do now remember one of the definitions of a box is a small space or compartment and that's usually where we find ourselves him then at small spaces so let me pose a question right now and I know this doesn't necessarily fit right here but it will fit around enough that it will work but why do most churches stop growing at a certain number is it because God stops working is it because God can no longer do his sovereign work is it because there's no one else to be saved well the answer would be absolutely not what happens is that most churches too often find themselves after a while in different boxes or different traditions or different ruts and instead of moving forward and progressing we become stationary and maintaining and if you want to see a miserable Church if you want to see a church that's constantly fighting within at one another and biting and devouring one another then show me a Pentecostal church that's just trying to maintain show me a Pentecostal church that's not worrying about reaching out to the lost and I'll show you a church that is just miserable to try to get connected to you want to see a church is constantly bickering and gossiping show me let me show you a church that is simply maintaining but I want to sound it loud and clear tonight I don't believe it's God's will for the church to simply and only maintain I don't believe it's God's will for us to be defined or contained by boxes of traditions and by boxes of unbelief and excuses and saying well we just don't have enough of this and and we don't have enough that I think it's God's will for the church for this church to continue to grow in advance and propagate the acts 2:38 message all over the world I'm ready on a Tuesday night to just kick out every excuse and every reason why we don't think we can do it and say god you're bigger than anything we can imagine or think you're able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think somebody shout the curse the curse of this thing called the box is because it kind of shows God his parameters God you can do anything you want to do as long as it's within my box as long as it's not gonna put me out on a limb as long as it's not gonna make me look a little cray-cray God wants us he wants us to quit defining him by the limitations that we put on him I'm gonna say this with with ultimate respect to the word of the Lord I hope you don't misinterpret what I'm about to say but but one of the setbacks of the Old Testament was that the surest presence of God was found in a box in the Old Testament they kept God in a box and they didn't call it a box because that would sound really very non spiritual so they gave it another name they called it the Ark of the Covenant and that sounded spiritual and so they would even say we'll let our priest carry the box and we'll let we'll let the box rest in the Holy of Holies but if you'll go study the Ark of the Covenant was just a plain wooden box overlaid within and without with pure gold as a matter of fact the term Ark of the Covenant comes from a Hebrew word which literally means box but in other places in the Old Testament that same word would be translated as Ark or chest or even coffin so that's two times now from Webster and the Hebrew that says box can be interpreted as coffin so this Ark of the Covenant this box represented the presence of God to be before the box was to be in God's presence and God promised to meet Moses at the Ark and because of this it functioned as a place where divine revelation would be received the ark served as an instrument through which God guided and defended Israel through the wilderness wandering it was on this art that the blood of atonement was presented and received but what we need to understand tonight is that even though they this may have been the surest place of his presence his presence has never been limited to that box and what's happening to the 21st century Church is the same thing that was happening to the children of Israel you see the ark ceased to have this spiritual function when Israel began to regard it as a magical box with sacred powers they got to the place where they didn't think they could experience victory and they couldn't have happiness and they couldn't experience God if something happened and the box was not in their immediate presence and they begin to worship the box more than they were worshipping the god that was in the box and instead of experiencing happiness all the time and victory all the time and peace every single day they forfeited much of that because they had put God in a box that was made with human hands and so our text picks up in Jeremiah and the Prophet is prophesying and he says when your land is once more filled with people says the Lord you'll no longer wish for the good old days of long ago when you possess the Ark of the Covenant when you really see God doing what only God can do you're not gonna wish for the day where God was just limited to a box those days the the Prophet said will not be missed or even thought about in the ark the box will not be reconstructed for the Lord himself shall be among you and now fast forward with me to the church age and the church is the surest presence of God there is nothing that can take the place of a good spirit-filled Church service with anointed singing and anointed preaching and anointed worship there is nothing that can it doesn't matter if it's a Tuesday night or a Thursday morning there is nothing that can take the place of a good anointed church service um oh I'm gonna give the church a plug tonight is that all right I've walked into church so discouraged and so people down ready to give up and ready to give you know but once I felt the presence of the Lord begin to move my spirits were lifted and I was encouraged and I walked out thinking I don't know how but I just feel like I can make it another day I'm not part of this crew that wants to find something wrong with the church I'm not part of that crew that wants to find a reason to not go to church ah I was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the Lord you thankful for the church you ought to clap your hands and give God praise somebody shout it man let me just medal here for a moment I told you last night this why don't evangelize so let me give you another reason why I don't evangelize don't ever get to the point where you feel like you don't need the church don't ever get to the point where you feel like you don't need a pastor I'm old school I'm old timey I'm old fashioned I get that I'm young but I got high mileage my trade-in values not real good but I still believe you got to have a preacher in your life if you want to go to heaven don't you ever get to the place where you feel like you know I could probably make this on my own or or maybe I could find some water down twice dead plucked up by the roots Church and that ought to be just as good for my family as all that shouting and worshipping and holiness and standards and it just be the same as a spirit-filled Church the devil is a liar and God forbid that we get to the place where we think watching some preacher on TV every once in a while is the same as being part of a church I don't care how much money you've mailed in I don't care how many splinters off the old rugged cross somebody has mailed you I don't care how many gallons a holy or magical water or how many green prosperity towels you got in your closet at home when it's all said and done you still need to be part of a blood bulk spirit field Jesus name apostolic church why do you got to be a part of that church because that's the kind of church that God died for that's the kind of church he poured his blood out for David said my foot had almost slipped until I went into the sanctuary of the Lord I'm not against programs I'm not against rehabs I'm not against twelve steps of this and eight steps of that but none of that can take the place of church every good thing that's ever happened to Jimmy Tony has happened to me because of church I got the Holy Ghost at church and I was baptized in his name at church and I felt a call to preach at church I met my wife at the church I got married at the church I dedicated my baby at the church my daughter got the Holy Ghost at the church I baptized her in Jesus name at the church don't you think I'm gonna find a way to get out of the church have you lost your mind this is where God dwells I'm sold out to the church take this whole world but give me Jesus I'm not in this for money I'm not in this for platforms I'm not in this so somebody will call me to preach I don't care about any of that I want to hear him say well done thou good and faithful servant I'm telling you God's in this church house right now clap your hands and let's worship that god I don't know what you came to church with tonight I don't know what kind of sickness is in your body but if we can get him out of the box he can heal you I don't know what kind of secret addiction you've been fighting for six months but if you can break down that box he can heal you and deliver you tonight somebody shot a man hey oh you cool guys over here Nolan and Zach I wanted to fit in so I wore me some colorful socks tonight to try to fit in I don't know it's a mallard duck or something that's what I like it's got that red heel on it I think that's cool what I know are suspenders in style they're not I need some suspenders man my stomach is at that size where it just constantly pushes my britches down and it constantly but I don't want to wear them if isn't if it's not cool so sorry brother carpenter I'm sorry this is another reason I don't get asked to go out different well you lost all your weight Lord I'll be glad when his revivals over we in ain't nothing but salads and free god I want some ice cream then I want something we're some cookies ad for the every restaurant we go through brother Carpenter said we're just gonna have salad in the water what are you just gonna have I'll just have what you're having aren't you thankful for church and as great as church is and as important as Church is we cannot get to the place where we box God into just a building and while I think this is important being the Church of God I also think this is the temple of the Holy Ghost and this is as important and what goes on in here is as important as what goes on in here we cannot become like the children of Israel and think that the only time that things can happen is when the box is present your children are sick oh my word it's Monday morning three o'clock in the morning let's get to the church you can but that's just box religion sometimes god forbid that we have the same type of mentality that we can have victory unless we're in the walls of the church that's the curse of this thing we called the box you see there aren't this is going to get deep there are two Testaments in the Bible one is called the I've already preached a sermon here cuz you know one is called the Old Testament and one is called the New Testament one is the old way that God dealt with man and one is the new way that God deals with man one kept God limited to a box the other one does away with the box one says you can't even come before me unless you're of a certain bloodline the other said I don't care who you are from every tribe kindred tongue and nation John chapter 3 and verse 8 says the wind bloweth where it listeth and thou hearest the sound thereof but canst not tell whence it cometh and whither it goeth so is every one that is born of the Spirit in other words what God was trying to say was that I want what I want to do in the last days cannot be contained in a geographical location it cannot be contained in a box it can't be contained in a building it can't be contained in just one area after all the heaven of heavens cannot contain him that's why the Bible says that heaven is as throne and earth is his footstool if the Ark of the Covenant could not hold him and if Solomon's Temple could not hold him and if the heaven of heavens cannot hold him and if the fullness of the earth cannot hold him don't you think it's silly for me and you to try to put God in our little box of religion in our little box of tradition and our little box of faith to say God you can't heal any more because I haven't seen it personally or you can't do this anymore because I'm suffering and though you're just boxing God in the best thing I configures he's a God that knows no limits and if we claim to have him living on the inside of us I think it's time we quit making excuses and we quit compromising and we quit taking the low road and we start walking in authority and in Dominion and in the power of a Holy Ghost revelation I've come to tell you Maryville the days of excuses are over the days of compromise and making deals with the devil are over we need to leave this service with the revelation our God can do whatever we need him to do he's bigger than that sickness he's bigger than drugs he's bigger than my backslidden children God is a healer you just got to get him out of the box God can fill you with the Holy Ghost tonight you just got to get him out of the box God can deliver you you just got to be willing to get him out look if you're sad glad we're serving a big God I wish you'd clap your hands and give him praise in this place come on clap your hands and shout yes well let's just wait on out there a little bit God is not a Republican how about that's your box oh I'll really mess will you help us Holy Ghost God is not even an American God's not from Tennessee you oughta be ashamed God's not Republican God's not a Democrat I'm gonna really mess with you he's not a conservative he's not liberal all of those are our boxes that define us therefore we think God is like that's the problem plaguing the American church is we think God is like us God did not come to this earth so he could become like us he came here so we could become he's not a Baptist he's not Lutheran he's not Catholic he's not even Pentecostal he is God all by himself he's not a political party he is holy we've got to get God out of our little boxes and release him to be the king of kings and the Lord of lords and he wants to be more than just God at the church house and God at your house he wants to be God in everybody's house we ought to be able to have a move of God on our job we ought to be able to have a move of God in our homes and in the grocery store anywhere that we are we've got to be able to tap into something greater than just the pop the curse of the box is that it shows God these are your limits we believe in you but here's your limits here is here's the blueprint there are some who will not open up their spirit to the Holy Ghost because it doesn't fit in their religious box there are some who would never ever take a fresh look at baptism and to realize that Jesus name baptism was the only way that anybody's ever been baptized after the church was started they will not look at that with fresh anticipation because that's going to turn their little box up there are some who thinks that all of this worship and excitement is just a waste of time and energy and the only reason they believe that is because it's just not part of their box how many of you would say that at one point in your life you made this statement something similar to it doesn't have to be a direct quote but something similar to I will never go to a church like that then people are crazy I will never act like that in church I will never ain't no preacher gonna ever tell me what I can or cannot do not gonna happen that your box I will never give a portion of my money to a church I will not do I'll never do it I we're never gonna dress like that we are just never we're never gonna stop going to the movies we're never gonna stop doing this we're never gonna stop doing that that's just we're not going to ever do it and then all of a sudden the Holy Ghost begins to blow and your little bitty box begins to collapse a little bit and you find yourself raising your hand when you said you'd never go to a church like that the reason why people say they could never come to a church like this is because it just doesn't fit in their box but if we can get God out of the box and if we can quit limiting God then he can pour out his blessings the Bible says that we wouldn't even have enough room to receive it Miravalle let's quit looking for the good old days of yesteryear our best days are still in front of us don't box God in they don't just have to get the Holy Ghost in this build and they can get it in the streets they can get it at Walmart they can get it wherever they need to be God is not contained to an address if you believe that clap your hands and give Him praise and there's some Pentecostals there box may be bigger than somebody else's box but at the end of the day it's still a box I would love for God to knock down every partition and really take over a service and let his divine will be manifested in this place let me let me give you a very carnal simple silly illustration I named a bunch of boxes but I didn't name a jack-in-the-box now you know how jack-in-the-box works you know you turn the crank you listen to the music and then at the right time almost on cue Jack shows up and everybody loves it the kids love it jack is here and then we all do this we put Jack right back in the box and then when we want a little entertainment we want a little excitement again we'll turn the crank and we'll listen to the music and we'll wait on Jack to show back up and we can get it down so good that we know right before he shows up we know that it's going to hit a certain note and he shows up and we all get excited jack is here the only problem is Jack never gets out of the box and the box becomes just a form of entertainment and we turned the crank and we listened to the music and almost on cue we know when Jack is gonna show up and I see the same jack-in-the-box theology in the church we come in and we turn the crank and we listen to the music and almost on cue Jesus shows up and everybody gets excited and everybody enjoys it and then as soon as we turn the lights off we just put Jesus right back in the box and once it will see you on Wednesday and then we show up on Wednesday and we turn the crank and we listen to the music and wait a minute wait for it wait for it there he is and Jesus shows up and everybody enjoys it when Jesus shows up and then as soon as church is over we just push him right back down and we go through this endless cycle the only problem is we keep Jesus in the box and Jesus becomes some type of little entertainment figure to us or it becomes some type of little figure that that hey I'm just trying to get you through this God doesn't want to be a comedian God is not an entertainer God's not looking for somebody to just you know turn a crank and learn it no but if we sing this song and we hit this note we do just this then all of a sudden he's gonna show up but I know they're gonna put me why don't we go ahead and let God get out of the box tonight why don't we go ahead and let God become bigger than our situation and bigger than our issues come on clap your hands and give him praise we got to get him out of the box you leave jack in the box if you want to but it's time for Jesus to get out of the box he can feel somebody with the Holy Ghost tonight he can heal somebody tonight he can deliver somebody tonight it's time to break the curse of the book had Pentecost remained in the box on the day of Pentecost nobody would have been added to the church but because a hundred when he said this is too good to keep inside the box and they stumbled outside 3000 was added to the church in one day thank God for what he's doing in this building but if every one of us could walk out of this building and make up our mind I'm gonna make a difference on my job I'm gonna make a difference in my neighborhood what are you doing you're trying to get Jesus out of them now take it a step further some of you need to quit letting the devil Creek treat you like a jack-in-the-box let him tell you when you can pop up and when you can worship and when you can't worship and you can't do this you can't you need to make up your mind I'm not gonna be a puppet on the string for the devil another day I don't care if I don't I don't care if I smoke the cigarette last night I'm gonna still come to church tonight and I'm gonna worship God you don't have to be perfect to worship God and you don't have to be a Pentecostal to worship God oh you got to do to worship God as we breathe in let everything that has breath praise the Lord quit letting condemnation stop you from praising God quit letting some mistakes from yesterday stop you from praising God yeah but you don't know you don't know just just remain saying for a minute let me come to tell you something if a guy in a graveyard that was cutting himself had 2,000 demons in him and the Bible said he was naked and when he saw Jesus if a guy with 2,000 demons in it could go and worship God if he didn't worry about what he looked like if he didn't worry about blood on his body if he didn't worry about being naked if he didn't worry about getting everything perfect before he went to God if 2,000 Devils couldn't stop him from worshiping God quit letting that little problem you're going through stop you from worshipping God come on to Jesus as you are get him out of your pop let him be God all by himself I don't know what you need from God right now but the Holy Ghost is wanting to move in this place the Holy Ghost is wanting to shake this place right now get him out of your box and let him heal yeah get him out of your box and let him touch you get him out of your box and let him give you a fresh touch from heaven clap your hands all over this place and give it praise hallelujah hallelujah just remain standing never remember remember one of the definitions of a box is a coffin and the curse of the box is if you don't get out of it it's gonna become your coffin and you're gonna be buried in something that God said I gave you an opportunity to get it when Joseph died in Egypt they put him in a box but he said don't leave me in this box don't leave me in Egypt when you get out when God finally answers his prayer you make sure you get me up and get me out of here Maryville it's time to get out of the box and head to the promised land it's time to believe don't don't die in your coffin don't die in your box it's time to believe God for something supernatural the only time the only time that the word box is mentioned in the New Testament the only time that the word box is mentioned in the New Testament is when a lady of ill-repute came in to where Jesus was and being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper as he said at the meet there there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious and and she braked the box she poured it on his head and there were some that had indignation with him some within themselves saying well why was this waste appointment made for for it might have been sold for more than 300 pence and had been given to the poor and they murmured against her and Jesus Jesus said let her alone won't want trouble ye her she hath wrought a good work me the Bible says that she broke the box the curse the curse of the box is that it shows god these are your limits these are your boundaries Jesus went to mark chapter 6 tells the story of Jesus went into a city and he wanted to heal everybody but the Bible said because of their unbelief he could only he can only he'll a few folks because when he walked in their box determined what he could do and so here's this lady the Bible doesn't say she neatly opened the box the Bible says she break the box the word break there comes from a Greek word that means to crush or to break in into pieces in other words she didn't want to go home with the same box that she came into his presence with many believe that this woman this this woman with the box was at one point a prostitute we know she was a sinner we know we know that that some among the table that day said I love this they said if Jesus knew who she was so they make it sound like she may have been more than just somebody that had struggled with a little addiction here there that some people believe she was she was probably a prostitute we know according to Luke 7 Jesus says about the lady that that when you're forgiven much then you're gonna love him much and this is where God needs to talk to somebody tonight now she was a sinner she was she was a prostitute and she she brings in her container or perfume the same perfume that set on her dresser in her bedroom the same perfume that she used to no doubt spruce up her own body the same perfume that helped her attract men that would allow her to continue in the vicious cycle of the sinful trap of her past it's one thing to say I don't ever want to sin again or I don't ever want to prostitute my body again it's another thing to bring a tangible substance of your past and not only give it to Jesus but to break the container that would ever remind you of your past her dresser would now be missing something her bedroom was not going to have the same smell that it used to have she was going to be able to go home with no remnant of her past haunting her when you truly want to break free from the past I can promise you when you truly want to break free things will change but when you get at his feet let me tell ya I just feel the Holy Ghost right I'm just gonna kind of mingle for a moment and then Jesus told a lady that was calling the act of adultery and that always confused me a little bit because Abraham and Sarah we talked about them last night I'm not the smartest preachers gonna ever stand this platform but to commit adultery you need to and yet they only brought one to Jesus so I believe the little perverted man was probably still committing adultery until the day died but the lady who came to Jesus got a brand new start on life and this is what Jesus told her go thy way and sin no more now we Pentecostals have no problem with the in sin no more business we have no problem that you shouldn't be sinning we get that but we get hung up on being able to look at somebody and say go that way you know continue to do what you were doing continue to live your life continue to go on and raise your kids continue to go on and work your job go thy way just send no more and sometimes we Pentecostals have a problem with helping people go that way I want to tell you whatever your past is if you'll give it to him tonight not only can you not have to worry about sending no more but you can go your way and God can restore you and God can heal you and so this woman brought this box into the presence of the Lord the curse is that it just shows God these are your limits the cure is to do whatever you got to do to break it that's the only cure for the box is you've got to be willing to break it because it promise you if you just come to the altar and you just pour it out you'll feel good but if you go back home it won't be long until you have more junk the lady went to the will with a water pot but when Jesus gave her water to drink the Bible says that she left her waterpot I don't even want to take that back home with me anymore because I don't need that kind of water anymore I have tasted from something better some of you God has been trying his best to get your attention but you've been defining him by every little box why it can't happen and why can't be you and why can't be now but I've come to tell you that's the curse of the box but the cure of this thing called the box is if you're willing to break out of it and if you're willing to give God your pass and if you're willing to give God your trouble I promise you you can walk out of here and go and sin no more and Jesus can look at him as a letter alone everywhere this story is preached there gonna be a memorial and they're gonna remember what she did I don't know what your box may be tonight but if you're ready to break out of it and you're ready for God to become bigger than your little definition at your little limitations I want you to throw your hands up all over this place if you need the Holy Ghost I want you to break out of the box and come to this front right now if you need God to heal your body I want you to break out of the box and I want you to come down here right now and believe that God is able to heal me come on we don't have time for down we don't have time for unbelief our God is able I said our God is able our God is able whatever your box is whatever is trying to hinder you whatever is trying to heal you in whatever is trying to keep you back
