Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
John preaching in the wilderness
- He reads of John preaching in the wilderness of Judea, the voice of one crying, prepare ye the way of the Lord and make his paths straight
- John wore camel's hair and a leather girdle and ate locusts and wild honey, yet Jerusalem and all Judea came out to him
- They were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins, while the religious leaders of the day came to watch the baptism
- The text moved the people who heard it then, and a preacher anchored in the text still has something that moves people now
Scriptures: Matthew 3:1-6
Shaken for a moment, but not moved
- Earthquakes shake buildings, but buildings fall because of faulty foundations, not because they were shaken
- The structures around us will be shaken in the last days, and lives built on the word are the ones still standing
- In the apostles' days men who used the name without the preaching behind it were overpowered by the evil spirit they tried to cast out
- Jephthah made a rash vow and paid for it in a day when there was no preached word in the land to check his zeal
Nothing moves men like the preaching of the word
- A testimony can bless and a song can stir, but he has watched preaching move men when nothing else could move them
- He recalls preaching in a service with no great feeling on it and still watching a man come weeping to the altar
- Where the word is preached, witchcraft and false power lose their hold; where there is no preaching, other powers fill the vacuum
- Men are not moved by what a preacher feels but by the word he preaches, so the preacher must stay with the word
Sound doctrine: what has to be preached
- John promised one coming after him who would baptize with the Holy Ghost and with fire
- Titus was charged to speak the things which become sound doctrine, and sound doctrine is what this preacher means to preach
- There is one God and there is none beside him; there is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism
- Peter answered the first ones who asked what to do: repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
Scriptures: Matthew 3:11; Titus 2:1; Acts 2:38
The name, and the word that endures
- Job esteemed the words of God's mouth more than his necessary food, and a man who lives on the word can outlast what he loses
- The name of Jesus is above every name, and nothing moves men to change like preaching that name
- Heaven and earth pass away, but the word of God abides forever, and it will still be moving men when everything else has moved on

he's the Lord everybody what a joy it is to stand before you this this evening what an honor it was to receive the invitation to come and be asked to preach to you tonight when I received the text from brother Erickson just a couple of days ago I was not immediate immediately went to the first five of my family and I preached as full-time evangelist on our first Easter out on the road was for Maryville Philby the carpenter and who would have thought all these years later on Easter week and weekend I would be preaching online like this what a what a strange day we live in but what a wonderful day to serve God that we live in and I am blessed to be part of this kingdom and a part of this great organization we give honor to brother carpenter and his wife their leadership and I believe this is a man for the hour to lead us into territories and not yet explored to have a revival not yet seen and I appreciate all that God is doing and this a day I'm going to read the night from the book of Matthew the third chapter and I'm gonna pick up at verse number 1 Matthew chapter 3 verse 1 the Bible tells us in those days Came John the Baptist preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying repent ye for the kingdom of heaven is at hand for this is he the was spoken of that by the Prophet Isaiah's saying the voice of one crying in the wilderness prepare ye the way of the Lord make his paths straight and the same John the same John that was preaching had his raiment of camels hair leather and girdle about his loins and his meat was locusts and wild honey then went out to him Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region around about Jordan and were baptized of him in Jordan confessing their sins it wasn't just two or three this wasn't just a handful the Bible says then went out to him Jerusalem the whole city and all Judea and all the region around Jordan and they were all baptized of him in Jordan confessing their sins I want to preach tonight what moves men not in the form of a question but in the form of a statement what moves men this life that we live is one filled with both glorious times and inglorious moments the one may feel the joy of life while another in the same instance experiences the loneliness of death between the sacrifice of Noah and the blessing of his sons God am the sweet-smelling savour promised while the earth remaineth seedtime and harvest and cold and heat and summer and winter and day and night shall not cease that promise also gives to us the brutal blueprint of man's life moments that will define us experiences that will mode and shape us even in the process of breaking encounters that cause destinies to be born in us little did Jeptha know that when he was thrust out into the darkness of the night by his own brothers and was told that thou shall not inherit in our father's house that they propelled the son of a harlot into his destiny as he became the ninth judge that would lead a nation of Israel there are moments that shake men that calls us to react in ways of passion and emotion this nation and indeed this world has had its share of shaking we were shaken as we awoke to a beautiful spring day only to find out that hours earlier the freezing waters of the North Atlantic 1517 people went out into eternity as that unsinkable ship Titanic was buried at sea we were shaken to confusion and disbelief to hear that a 46 wasn't unship Brust an iceberg for a mere ten seconds barely enough of a touch to spill a glass of water and yet only 700 survived yes we were shaken for a moment we were shaken as the cry over the radio shouted oh the humanity a cry heard around the world on our nation's first coast-to-coast radio broadcast it was all that the host could say when he watched the great Hindenburg explode into flames killing 36 and less than one minute yes we were shaken for a moment we were shaken on December the 7th 1941 a day which will live in infamy as the Japanese launched a surprise attack at Pearl Harbor killing two thousand wounded 710 in just the Navy alone two hours of horrific battle with the young mothers and fathers still to this day buried beneath the floor of the Pacific yes we were shaken at least for a moment at 12:30 5:00 in the afternoon on November the 22nd 1963 this nation was indeed shaken as the 12-car motorcade was nearing the end of its 10-mile tour of Dallas Texas and as it passed the textbook warehouse shots rang out crowd scattered people fell to the ground or ran for cover as others screamed and wept over the assassination of our president John F Kennedy yes we were shaken for a moment we were shaken on black Tuesday we were shaken at the sands of Iwo Jima we were shakin when we watch the Challenger explode in the beautiful sunny skies we were shaken at the Oklahoma City bombing we were shaken at the Columbine shooting we were shaken at the Colorado theater massacre we were shaken at the Sandy Hill shooting we were shaken at the Boston Marathon Massacre we were shaking on Matt the Mother's Day shooting in New Orleans a few years ago not just this nation but this world was no doubt shaken as what is now simply known as 911 but the fact is at the end of the day life moves on as always people awake go about their day they adjust to what life gives them they go on with their business and with each sunrise and sunset they remove themselves from the tragedies of life because truth be told war chaos might shake us but this does not move men our text tonight gives us the story the first message after 400 years of silence not one word spoken worth writing not one message preached worth ducking many not not one vision given worth pinning down on paper not one word has been spoken for 400 years that's recorded and yet after 400 years comes a man named John the Baptist out of the wilderness not from his home not not from a temple he comes walking out of a wilderness and the Bible says that he is his clothes he's wearing his camels air and a leather internal he's got locusts in one hand wild honey in another hand not one word has been spoken worth riding in 400 years and this man man comes out with locusts and wild honey and he comes out of a wilderness and he's he's wearing camel series wearing a leather and girdle but the Bible tells us that while this madman looks like he looks and he's eating what he's eating at his he's screaming from the wilderness the Bible says that all of Jerusalem went to him all of Judea went to him and the whole region around Jordan came to him he did not have the right clothes but he had a crowd he did not have the right food but he had a crowd he did not have a church building but he had a crowd he did not have a pulpit he did not have a platform he did not have music he did not have a choir he did not have a microphone in this and he he did not have a PA system he had no Sunday school teacher she had no Sunday School Superintendent there was no music director there was no musicians there was no there was no drums there was no piano there was no organ there was no electric guitar acoustic guitar bass guitar he had no deacons he had no Trustees he had no assure she he did not have a lot of money he did not have popularity he did not have the strobe lights or the smoke machines he had no praise and worship leader he had no assistant pastor associate pastor youth pastor code pastor outreach pastor he did not have everything that we think he should have but he had a crowd he had a crowd because the Bible said even though he's wearing camel's hair and a leathern girdle even though he's eating locusts and wild honey even though not one word worth writing has been penned in 400 years even though he comes from a wilderness the Bible said he was preaching because there is nothing that moves men more than the preaching of the word of God we will not build a church on how popular we are we will not build a church on how big the building is we will not build a church on all the money we get we will not build a church on how cutting-edge we are if we're gonna build the house a god it's got to be built on the preaching of the word of God it's the preaching that saves it's the preacher that convicts it's the preach them that heals it's the preach them that sustains it's the preach them that brings in the power is the preach and that brings in the glory we don't need more seminars we need some preaching we don't need more concerts we need some preaching we don't need more talking sessions we need the preaching of the word of God because nothing moves men like the preaching of God's Word men are moved by preaching for the preaching of the Cross is to them that perish foolishness but unto us which are saved it is the power of God it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe I say it preaching pleases God then let's start pleasing God and let's get some preaching back in our churches singing is not gonna save them entertainments not gonna save them concerts are not gonna save them counseling sessions are not gonna save them but let somebody stand behind a pulpit with the anointing of the Word of God and let them preach whether it's 2 2 or 3 or 2 500 or whether it's to a thousand just preach the word it will move me in heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away till heaven and earth pass not one jot not one tittle shall in no wise spaz from the loft the grass may wither the flower may fade but the Word of God shall stand forever they may burn it they may trash it they may deny it but they can't change it they can't stop it and they won't defeat it his word was sent and healed people his word was sent and sinners got saved his word was sent to an ultra sealed his word was sent to an anoint and came his word was Santa and conviction happen nothing moves men like the preaching of God's Word not only was he preaching and not only did an entire city come to him not just Jerusalem not just Judea but all the region around Jordan this is a massive crowd he's got because he's preaching he's not preaching in a church building he's preaching coming out of the wilderness almost sounds like we're in the same place at this moment he was in at that moment he's got no people sitting on the Pew they're just standing around watching him but he's preaching and the Bible said that everyone that came was baptized every one that came confessed their sins the reason why they had a revival on that day he is not just because he was preaching but it was the contents of what he was preaching his message was I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance but he that cometh after me is mightier than I whose shoes I am not worthy to bear he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire the contents of his message was Baptists some repentance and Holy Ghost he was preaching doctrine he wasn't preach and do what you won't live how you will act the way you won't no he was preaching doctrine he was preaching repentance he was preaching baptism he was preaching Holy Ghost nothing moves men like preaching sound doctrine Titus admonished us to speak thou two things which become sound doctrine that word sound means solid men are not moved about watered-down doctrine they need solid doctrine they are not moved by soft doctrine they need solid doctrine I'll tell you what solid doctrine is in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us that sound doctrine jesus answered verily verily I say unto thee except a man of be born again of the water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God that's doctrine he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved behold a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth the son and they shall call his name Emmanuel which being interpreted is God with us jesus saith unto him have I been so long time with you and yet has thou not known me Philip he that hath seen me hath seen the father that's doctrine here's doctrine I am my father or one here or Israel the Lord our God is one Lord there is one Lord one faith one baptism one God and Father of all who is above all and through all and in all then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost if you want to move me in in in the midst of this virus you preach if you want to move men to repentance you preach if you want the waters of baptism stirred you preach if you want Holy Ghost fallen you preach if you want sick folk being healed you preach if you want the alcoholic delivered you preach if you want the drug and it being set free you preach if you want if you want bros busting up homes being put together you preach if you want marriages back together you preach if you your city shake it you preach if you want your church filled you preach if you want to move a god you preach if you want revival you preach because nothing moves men like preaching the Word of God he was preaching repentance he was preaching baptism he was preaching Holy Ghost Peter comes along and tells us how to get baptized it's in the name of Jesus Christ preaching the name moves men I think if there is anything that we need a revival of its preaching the name of Jesus Christ our identity is we are people of the name preach of the name will always move men and the 5th chapter of the book of Acts the high priest having gathered the council together in the morning sins did the prison to have the Apostles brought before him the captain and the officers go and bring them before the council to expose their teachings the Apostles defend themselves and charges the council with the death of Jesus the council becomes angry and charges to kill the Apostles but there is a man standing by that begin to talk the council and afterwards the council discharges the apostles but on their way out the door the council stop still and demands Peter and John to not speak in the name of Jesus it all started because a lame man who had been sitting at the gate called beautiful who was laying from his mother's womb was healed and was woken and leaping and praising God and and and news became the talk of the hour that this man who's been lame from his mother's womb is now healed and somehow news drips down to the council and they bring Peter and John in that's how this whole thing started and the question that the council asked was by what power or by what name have you done this and in Peter's response and his answer to this question he tells them it's in the name of Jesus who you crucified so the ones who asked him how this man got a miracle or the ones who held the whips and spit on Jesus and mocked him while he hung on the cross it was the enemy the adversary that was asking Peter and John how did this man get a miracle but amazingly in their question they said by what power or by what name because even the enemy knows the only way a life can be changed it takes power or it takes a name so the enemy said how did this man get a miracle what power did you use or what name did you use Peter's said you shall receive power after the holy ghost has come upon even the adversary knows the only way lives are changed the only way bodies are healed the only way deliverance takes place even the enemy knows what moves men is some power and a name being proclaimed Peter said it's in the name of Jesus who you crucified that's how this man got a miracle it wasn't how big the building we had it wasn't it wasn't how popular we are it wasn't what our last name is and it wasn't who we know it was we were preaching to that man we were preaching the name of that man and that's what moved the man to a miracle and so on their way out the door the enemy the adversary the council demands of Peter and John to not speak in the name of Jesus because they understood it's not the doctors touch it's not the physicians touch it's not the counselor's touch it's the name of Jesus touch that changes someone's life and so they demanded shut up about the name but the Apostles turn and depart and the Bible said they departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name and daily in the temple and in every house they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ they didn't care what the law said they kept on preaching the name they didn't care what the council said they kept on preaching the name they didn't care who talked and ridiculed and mocked they kept on preaching the name because they had the understanding nothing moves men like preaching the name of Jesus and because they kept preaching the name the Bible says in those days when the name kept being preached when the name kept being talked about when name kept being proclaimed in those days the number of the disciples was multiplied their church grew because somebody did not forsake the name the church got bigger because somebody kept preaching the name the church went on because somebody kept preaching the name I challenge you who's watching me right now don't let up on the name preach it louder than ever preach it more than ever sing more songs about it testify about it teach it talk about it everywhere you go let the world know who we are we are a people of the name of Jesus and it's the name that changes it's the name that cleanse us it's the name that takes the black heart and makes it a water than snow it is the name neither is there salvation in any other but there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved preach it preach it preach it because nothing moves men like preaching doctrine and proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ in this hour in this time we find ourselves in in these confusing days and uncharted waters we need to reach to what has sustained us we need to reach now what has kept us we need to reach back to what has brought us to where we are it was the preaching of the name of Jesus and in this day there is still nothing that moves men like preaching the Word of God this is what moves men this is what gets into homes this is what gets into lives this is what makes the difference this book they can do and say what they want but this book shall stand forever when the earth is burn up and the stars are fallen and the moon's turn in the blood the one thing that won't change is this book the one thing that won't move is this book the one thing that won't waver is this book no wonder job said have a sting the words of your mouth more than my necessary food I'm making live without food I can't live without the word no wonder the psalmist said hide your word in my heart cause that I won't sin against you ain't gotta worry about sin if you get some word in you you ain't got to worry about temptation if you get some word in you you ain't gonna worry about being defeated if you get some word in you because this book is still what lose then you got to preach it online preach it you got to preach it while everybody else is sitting in their cars preach John didn't have John was at the same place we found ourselves in but he preached and everyone he preached to was baptized because nothing moves men like preaching the Word of God stand on it every promise in the book is mine every chapter every verse every line it belongs to me chew it swallow it get it into you because this book is the only thing guaranteed to last everything that can be shaken will be shaken but God has given us a book that cannot be shaken this but preaching this book is what moves men god bless you tonight preach the word you
