Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
No king in Israel
- The text was read from the last verse of Judges: In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes. No king means no authority, and no authority means no accountability, no order, no standard — and all of that equals chaos and confusion; he said he is glad to fall under the authority of God's word.
- The Book of Ruth opens as the continuation of that sentence: Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land, and a certain man of Bethlehem-Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
- The series frame was restated: one fountain cannot send forth fresh water and salt water from the same source, so a root of bitterness allowed to stay in a heart not only pollutes and contaminates that life, it robs the whole family of the lost potential of what God could have grown there instead.
Scriptures: Judges 21:25; Ruth 1:1
Fleeing the famine
- A famine in the land of Israel was a sure sign of sin in the land — the judgment of God — and the right response was to search hearts and repent, not to be driven out of the promised land by the adversary: if the occupant of the promised land gets right, the famine goes away.
- This man did the opposite: to the flesh it is a lot easier to move on than to repent, a lot easier to abandon a relationship than to untie yourself and stay — and leaving is exactly what he chose.
- The promise was read against his choice: If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. It does not say God's people shall pack up and run.
Scriptures: 2 Chronicles 7:13-14
Moab is my washpot
- He traced Moab to its origin in Lot's family after Sodom — a people born of a dysfunctional plan in a cave who became enemies of God's people, and an enemy of God's people is an enemy of God.
- Deuteronomy 23 was read at length: An Ammonite or a man of Moab shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the Lord for ever: because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee a man to come and curse thee — nevertheless the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the Lord thy God loved thee; thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.
- God's own view of Moab was read from Psalm 60: Moab is my washpot — the lowest-valued vessel in a house, lower than the dog bowl, for washing hands and muddy feet. Why would anyone leave Bethlehem-Judah, the House of Bread and praise, for a washpot? Sin never makes sense; and the church at its very worst is still better than the world at its very best.
- Bitterness and hopelessness are cousins: bitterness will convince a believer the famine in Bethlehem is permanent, that there will always be a lack of bread there — because that is the only way the enemy can get him to let go of the House of Bread and go down to the washpot.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 23:3-6; Psalm 60:8
A sojourn that became ten years
- The read went on: the names of the man, of his wife Naomi, and of his two sons were given, and they came into the country of Moab, and continued there; and Naomi's husband died, and she was left, and her two sons; and they took them wives of the women of Moab, and they dwelled there about ten years. But the word for the trip was sojourn — a brief visit, a night under a tree on a journey. The devil sells Moab as just a break from Bethlehem; a believer may need a vacation from many things, but never from the word of God, prayer, worship, and fellowship with God's people.
- He told of a camp-meeting testimony: a man and his wife, offended at something in their church, decided they would not leave the church, only take a month off — and the month turned into a thirty-year prison sentence before he made a beeline back to the house of God on his release. The same road a person walks out on is the road God's mercy says to come back on.
- In Moab things went from bad to worse: the husband died, and after some time both sons died too. His warning to parents was direct: think long and hard about your decisions, because your children are going to marry your decisions — those boys would never have married those girls, and death might never have come to the household, had the family stayed put in Bethlehem, the House of Bread and praise.
- Then the turn: Naomi arose with her daughters-in-law to return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread. Even locked up in Moab, a voice of mercy says come on home — I will love you freely, I will forgive your sins.
Scriptures: Ruth 1:2-4; Ruth 1:6
Thy God shall be my God
- One daughter-in-law took Naomi's counsel and turned back to her gods in Moab; the other answered with the vow the book bears her name for: whither thou goest, I will go, and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried — all but death would part them.
- When wrong decisions are made, their products follow a person even back to Bethlehem — do not give up on living for God because a Ruth is beside you; God can take the products of a wrong decision and turn them around and make them a blessing in the kingdom, and the one who has come back needs to bring the whole of it back to the house of God, where there is an answer, a healing, a deliverance, and a Redeemer.
- So they two went until they came to Bethlehem, and all the city was moved concerning them, and they said, Is this Naomi? Moab is hard on a person — it takes the sheen off the face and the twinkle out of the eye.
- Her answer was read: I went out full, and the Lord hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the Lord hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? Naomi means pleasant; she refused the mask and told them to call her bitter instead, because that is what she was. The first step in getting help is to admit you need it — to say it out loud, I am bitter, I am hurt — not to a friend over coffee, but to the one person who can reach down into a heart and start plucking the root out, and that is God; mask wearers get no blessings in the house of God.
Scriptures: Ruth 1:16-17; Ruth 1:19; Ruth 1:20-21
Handfuls on purpose
- The story was carried through the gleaning field (Ruth 2-3 in narration): Ruth, who had never been in Bethlehem, happened on a field and began to glean behind the reapers, and it was the field of Boaz — her husband's kinsman, the kinsman redeemer, the Old Testament type of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He had heard what she had done for her mother-in-law, seated her at the reapers' table, kept her in his field, and ordered handfuls dropped on purpose behind the reapers, so that the young widow from Moab, who expected a day's gleaning, gathered a sack full.
- Naomi's counsel for the harvest night — wash, anoint yourself, put on your best, and lay down at his feet — became the lesson on advice: years of giving bad advice can be overcome by turning around and giving good advice; follow somebody who is following God, who has lived in Bethlehem, and they can tell you how to get the attention of the Kinsman Redeemer.
A restorer of thy life
- The whole gate scene was read: Boaz sat down in the gate before ten elders and offered the redemption to the nearer kinsman, who said he would redeem the land — until he heard that on the day he bought the field he must buy it also of Ruth, the young widow from Moab, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance; then he said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance, and drew off his shoe. That nearer kinsman stands for our Adamic nature, the children of wrath — but our great Kinsman Redeemer, Jesus Christ, went to the gates of hell and stripped the enemy of his right to us, and there is going to be a wedding.
- Boaz bought all that was the dead man's and took Ruth to be his wife before the witnesses, who prayed the Lord would make her like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel.
- The close of the read belongs to Naomi: So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife, and the Lord gave her conception, and she bare a son; and the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel; and he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him — and Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. The child was the grandfather of King David: no matter how many trips to Moab a lineage has made, a family is one generation away from producing a David.
- The dismissal carried the series home: God does not write with a pen but with a pencil that has an eraser on the other end; nobody will get help until they admit they have the need, and nobody will realize what God could grow in them until the bitterness is plucked out — the people who used to tell others where to buy trouble now tell them how to get the Holy Ghost and where to go to church.

Judges chapter 21 the Book of Judges chapter 21 verse 25 me say while you're looking for that passage of scripture it's so good to see everyone in the house of the Lord tonight thank you so much you know it's um it's it's becoming um uh uh oldfashioned uh oldfashioned maybe some might use the word archaic to have church on Sunday night I hear people say uh they say oh y'all have church on Sunday night you know and I guess they really flip out when they find out we have church on Wednesday night too amen and when you love the Lord when you love the Lord like we do we want to come and read his word and we want to come and grow closer to him amen and so that's what we're here to do tonight if you have your bibl say I have it judges 25 21 and verse 25 in those days there was no king in Israel every man did that which was right in his own eyes I want to preach tonight or teach on the poison root uh part three the poison root um part three tonight and um God's going to help us here in a few moment father we love you thankk you tonight for the privilege and the opportunity to come to your house thank you Lord for the health thank you Lord for the Peace of Mind God thank you for the and I pray that you would touch them to not equally in Jesus mighty wonderful precious name we pray amen amen and amen you you may be seated tonight Judges chapter 21 some of you that are in your Bible with me Judges chapter 21 and verse 25 gives the broad brush um characteristics of Israel at a certain season of their history and it simply says and if you would read the Book of Judges you would find that on three or four times it stops and says and there was no King and there was no king in Israel and every man did that which was right in his own own eyes um could somebody that has your Bible open to judges 21 and 25 uh could someone read judges 21 verse 26 for me anyone it's not there is it that's the last ver what a way to end a book what a way to end a book is it a it's a certain way to end a book The Book of Judges is well there was no king in Israel and every man did that with which was right in his own eyes but if you do turn over you will turn over to the Book of Ruth and Ruth chapter 1 verse number one brother Ericson you had your Bible open there the last verse of Judges says there was no king in Israel and every man did that which was right in his own eyes you turn the page The Book of Ruth Ruth 1 verse one what is is the first word in that verse now as if there is a continuation as if there is a continuation now there's no king in Israel there's no King in let me let me stop here for just a second one of the reasons that we need to pluck up any root poison root of bitterness in our lives oh yeah what it'll do to us I understand that but you do realize that God has never let One Source spew two types you've never went up to a fountain James said and got fresh water and salt water out of the same Fountain so tonight if I have allowed a root of bitterness to be in my heart no long no not only is that root polluting my life contaminating my life but just think of the Lost potential that I am experiencing because if I've got a root of bitterness that's all I've got in my life and I have no Godly root in my life for what God could do in my life I don't know about you but don't you want God to work in your life I I don't want to live my life out and look back and regret and say I wonder what God would have done with our family if we had dedicated I wonder what God would done to our family if we had been faithful I don't want to experience that I I want to be so careful to pluck up every root that tries to take its place in my life because for every root of bitterness I am robbing myself my wife my family of the potential for what God wants to do and let me tell you in case you don't know him he's a good God in case you don't know him I said he's a good god matter of fact he's never done us nothing but good can I get a witness in the house tonight I have no complaints about God no king in Israel equals No Authority you see there was no Authority it was no Authority no King No Authority No Authority no accountability no order no standard and all of that equals chaos chaos confusion where there's no Authority and I'm glad tonight to fall under the authority of God's word amen the authority of God's word then it's it goes into Ruth and that's where I want to go for the remainder of my B Bible lesson tonight it says in Ruth chapter 1 verse number one now it came to pass in the days when the judges rules it connects goes right back that there was a famine in the land and a certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab he and his wife and his two sons now let's look at this for a moment we have in this one verse here sister Carpenter a famine is in the land you have a famine in the land as we study the word of God we find out that anytime there was a famine oh brother and sister Mayo I I just uh I just saw you there I I I'm looking right it's so good to have you all back home I you're glad to have brother sister Mayo back home and almost became Floridians but God delivered them amen so good to so good to see you um a famine brother Mayo was a sure sign that there was sin in the land of Israel if the land of Israel encountered a famine they they they automatically knew that that we need to repent we need to search our hearts we need to search our souls out because a famine represents the Judgment of God the Judgment of God now what do you do what do you do when things Begin to Fall Apart in your life and you know they say there's uh they say there's two things we have fight or flight all right when when when something comes Upon Us suddenly that we're either going to flee from it flight or we're going to stand and fight well can I tell you we don't need to allow the adversary to drive us out of our Promised Land if our promised land has a famine then I need to look at the occupant in the promised land and find out how to get the occupant of the promised land right because if I can get the occupant of the promised land right the famine will go away but look what this man did instead of examining his life instead of examining Israel and getting some people together and having a prayer and a time of repentance the Bible tells us that this man who was leading his family made a decision because you know what to the flesh it's a lot easier to move on than to repent it's a lot easy just to abandon a relationship it's a lot easy just to untie yourself go on because that's what the flesh the flesh can just untie itself so instead of this man stopping and saying wait a minute we got a f famine in the land of promise and if we've got a in the land of promise we got a sin problem somewhere and we need to we need to search our hearts out and we get rid of sin in our lives we get rid of that disobedience in our lives we get our relationship with God back in our lives he'll lift the famine if you'd like a if you'd like a scripture for that I would uh I could certainly give you one 2 chonicles 7:13 says it this way God said if I shut up Heavens that there be no rain or if I command the Locust to devour the land or if I send a pestilence that's a famine among my people if my people which are called by my name shall pack up and run now that's not what it says if my people which are called by my name shall begin shall shall begin to judge themselves with other people and say we're not all that bad after all if my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves I wish somebody help me and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked way then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land ALC I wish I could tell you tonight instead of running from Bethlehem Judah Bethlehem Judah means House of Bread House of Bread and praise anytime you're leaving if you're hungry don't leave this place because the world cannot feed you the world will promise you satisfaction action but they will deliver misery to you so it you just really should have stayed you really should have stayed you really should have stayed where you were at but you made the decision you made the decision to move on instead of repenting now the two things I want to bring to your attention is where they left where they left and where they were going they left Bethlehem House of Bread Judah praise they left House of Bread praise and they went to Moab now we we have to kind of study out a little bit about the history of the of the of the moabites we study a little bit about the history of the moabites and we find the origin of the moabites lot has made a horrible decision lot decided to take his family down to Sodom while in Sodom while in Sodom the Judgment of God Came Upon Sodom because of Abraham God sent angels to Sodom and they delivered lot Lot's wife and lot's two daughters got out of Sodom but midway between getting out of Sodom and getting to the mountain of safety Lot's wife looked back and was turned turned into a pillar a reminder a memorial as a matter of fact Jesus even used her in the New Testament about the end of time he simply preached a powerful message with just two words or three words remember can you help me remember lot's Lot's wife Jesus preached a powerful message in three words remember Lot's wife Lot's wife turns into a pillar of salt Abraham or uh lot makes his way to a cave with his two daughters and there his two daughters began to say that there's no one left on the earth they thought that they thought that all the population was gone and uh that they wanted to Bear seed and they came up with a plan two daughters came up with a plan that they would both get their father drunk I know it's dysfunctional I I I I know it's dysfunctional but you know what it really helps a lot of people in our age to read the Old Testament to help them see that they're not that bad after after all all right and uh they're dysfunctional and they concoct a plan they get their father drunk and one daughter sleeps with the F with their father lot she conceives the other daughter got him drunk slept with her father and conceived again from this these two girls come two races of people the ammonites and the moabites the ammonites and and the moabites and uh there was something about them there was something about about them that uh they were enemies of God they were enemies of uh what they were enemies of God's people and let's just put it out there tonight if you're an enemy of God's people you're an enemy of God right if you're an enemy of God's people right right if you're an enemy of God's people you're an enemy of God you you can't separate the two you can't you you can't you can't you can't divide you can't divide the two if you're an enemy stand up Sister Carpenter beautiful lady stand up right now if you're her enemy guess what you better fear and tremble because you're mine too all right huh there's no way you could that she's your enemy and you come up and say I I'm your friend no you're if that's an enemy then I'm an enemy and I I'm tell you something if we are an enemy then God is that same en enemy and that's why we don't need to fight our enemies we need to stand still see the salvation of the Lord and let the Lord fight our battles amen come on that that'll cause you to clap real good right there that ought to really cause you to clap now these moabites they they they they didn't they they they hated God's people I'll show you Deuteronomy chapter 23 Deuteronomy 23 and verse three listen to God listen to God Deuteronomy 23 and verse3 an ammonite or moabit shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord even to the 10th Generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the Lord forever why because they met not you they they met you not with bread and with water in the way when you came forth out of Egypt and because they hired against Thee balum the son of beor the son of pethor of Mesopotamia to curse thee nevertheless the Lord thy God would not hearken un balam but the Lord thy God listen to this now but the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee because the Lord thy God loved thee Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all all the days forever look at what God said about the moabites he said I still remember I still remember how they treated you Israel when you needed water when you came out of Egypt I still remember the way they treated you when you needed bread I still remember how they hired balum to come and curse you and try to put a a hex on you and try to Cur I still remember what they did to you because of that they will not come into the congregation of the house of the Lord 10th Generation and forever and then he turns and as if he's writing this he's not writing this to Moab he's writing this to Israel to tell them this is why you don't mess with the moabites this is why you don't mess with them this is why you don't mess with them don't seek their prosperity don't seek anything among them don't seek it let me show you how God views them show you how God views the moabites Psalms chapter 60 look at this Psalms chapter 60 in verse number 8 somebody say praise the Lord prise the Lord Psalms chapter 60 and verse number8 I really want to accomplish tonight that you you need to pluck every bit of root out of your life so God can plant some good seeds in you and so some good things can come up in your life cuz I got news for you good decisions can overcome bad decisions look up here at me tonight tonight look up here I'm going to tell you something else too tonight it's never too late to start being a good example it's now I know the enemy will beat you up about it the enemy wants to show you years you've not been but I got news for you where sin doth abound Grace do much more abound so so just L listen to this watch how God views Moab Psalm 60 verse 8 God says Moab is my what wash pot over Edom will I cast out my shoe Philistine Triumph thou because of thee a wash pot was the lowest valued vessel that you could have in your house you know why it I mean it's it's lower than the dog bowl all right it it's it's it's lower it's lower than the the the the dog bowl all right because the wash pot was where people wash their hands and the wash pot was where people wash their feet if they came from the restroom they stopped by the wash pot and they washed their hands if they came from a long trip and had mud and dirt between their toes they stopped at the wash pot and they started washing that dirt off of them and God said Moab is my wash pot once again why would you ever leave Bethlehem Judah House of Bread of praise and be tempted to go down to a wash pot have you ever noticed with me sin never makes any sense why people let go of the Cross and God and the word of God and the blessings of God they they let go of this Bethlehem I'm going to tell you something do you know the church is not always in Revival the church is not always running at Peak Performance there's no congregation that runs at Peak Performance at all times but can I tell you the church at its worst is better than the world at its very best the world is divided right now the church is United by Praise of the almighty God the world is divided in a lot of things right now but give me the house of God there's unity in the house of God there's peace in the house of God why would you want to leave Bethlehem Judah and go and go to a wash pot I tell you why because the wrong plant in your life don't you what bitterness will do to you bitterness will cause you to believe that that your situation is permanent bitterness will cause you bitterness and hopelessness are cousins you have bitterness you have hopelessness and bitterness and hopelessness will tell you that your situation is permanent get used to it this is the way life is going to be until you check out because that's what the enemy wants to do because he'll he knows you'll never let go of Bethlehem House of Bread pray and go down to the wash pot unless he can convince you there's always going to be a famine in Bethlehem there's always going to be a lack of bread in Bethlehem and that is not the case I'm glad Seasons come and I'm glad Seasons go I'm glad that there's valleys but I'm glad there's mountains I won't always be in the valley but I won't always be on the mountain but I'll always have my hand in the hand of a God that can see me through it all so they let go they let go now if you would notice go back to go back to um go back to um Ruth chapter 1 verse number one it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled that there was a famine in the land a certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to sojourn boy underline that word there what did he go to do sojourn the word souljourn means to visit briefly it means to visit briefly it means just to go a matter of fact they used it in travel if you were traveling down a road in a chariot and you wanted to go over here and spend the night under a tree they use the language brother Tyler let us turn and sojourn under the tree it simply meant just a brief period of time isn't it amazing how the devil has convinced a lot of people to take a break from Bethlehem Judah and told them it's just a souljourn and told them you just need a break you just need a break you just need a little break from what you're doing you need a change in your activity that oh that's what you need can I tell you something I have no doubt that we don't need vacations from time to time but I can tell you one thing we never need a vacation from and that is the word of God the reading of the word of God prayers to God and worship to God and fellowship with God's people you never need a vacation from that just a sojourn everybody say sojourn say just just sojourn and he he just said yeah I'm I'm gonna let go of Bethlehem Judah House of Bread praise just just a little bit I'm going to go to I'm gonna go to Moab and and uh there we're going to we're we're going to go to Moab and and there we're going to stay we're we're going to going to we're going to sojourn right I I want to really drive that on what I'm going to see if you're listening to me now what the what's it how much time is he planning on spending in Moab somebody tell me sojourn sojourn all right let's go to verse two Ruth 1 and verse two and the name of the man was IMC the name of his wife Naomi the name of his two sons meon and chilion epit of of Bethlehem Judah boy that's another combination there aites means fruitful look at this it means fruitful fruitful House of Bread praise they came into the country of Moab and continued there and eliminate ELC Naomi's husband died and she was left and her two sons verse four and they took them wi wait wait whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa wait a minute they had no intention of taking wives because after all we're just going to stay what what's the word I use and they took them wives of the women of Moab the name of the one Ora the name of the other Ruth and they dwell there about wow you see when you begin to untie yourself in Bethlehem Judah and you got in your mind I'm just going the wash pot I'm just going to go down there and drink from the wash pot a few days I I'm not staying there turns into turns into 20 it turns into 10 years I remember doing a camp meeting and they had a man testifying there the man had just served 30 years in prison he just served 30 years in prison he had a a testimony and he had been in church him and his wife and his little boys had been in church and he got offended he gave his testimony brother Marshall he got offended at something at the church and uh he convinced himself he convinced his wife he said we're going to take a month off of church said we're going to take a month off we're not going to go now we're not going to leave church we're not we're not going to leave church we're just going to take a month off of church we're just going to let's just don't go to church we honey we're not going to nothing bad's going to happen to we're just let's just take a break from church for a month the man got up and said the month turned in to a 30-year prison sentence from me he said because what happened in that month led me further away from Bethlehem Judah down to Moab but the good thing is when he got out of jail when he got out of prison he made a beine back to the house of God can I tell you the same road that you walked out on God's mercy I'm trying to help somebody tonight same road you walked out on God's mercy or say come on back the same way you can you can you can come on back the same way that you they were there they were there about 10 years well let's look at a few things here did things get better in Moab no sounds like to me things went from bad to worse sounds like to me that Naomi's husband died and sometime later sometime later her two sons died sounds like Moab is real bad on masculine leadership sounds like living in the world really de uh Dem mascul as a person if I could use that word sound like to me that you're not the leader the enemy won't say oh in the house of God you're really not a leader I'm going to tell you something submitted to God you are more of a leader to your home than you are down in Moab sound like to me that Moab is really bad on men Naomi finds herself she finds herself not only without her husband she finds herself without her two sons um if I could just say this parents listen to me now our children the youth are in classes tonight but I want to ask everybody to really do this right now would you please think long and hard about your decisions because you're children are going to marry your decisions them boys would have never married those girls and I wonder if death would have never happened to both elmc and the two boys had they just stayed put in Bethlehem House of Bread praise see we better be careful about our decisions we make because we're not only making decisions for ourselves but our children are following in the aftermath of our decisions that we make we better think long and hard and say now if I make this decision do I mind if my children marry the decision that I'm going to make verse number verse number six of Ruth one then Naomi arose with her daughter-in-laws that she might return follow this now from the country of Moab for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread watch this watch this isn't this amazing the devil Woos people out of the church by saying it's happy out here it's good out here you ought to come on out here we're where're it's free and you can do whatever you want to come on out of the house Bethlehem Judah come on out into the world and just as sure as he gets you out in the world and gets you chained up to Moab and gets you occupied in Moab he then begins to torment you with sounds from the church there's bread in Bethlehem there's bread in Bethlehem I've often said the devil will tempt you to sin he'll tempt you to sin and once he he'll tempt you and say there's nothing wrong with it and just as sure as you bite the hook and you do the sin he'll turn around and say you don't need to go back to church God don't love you these people find out they're not going to have anything to do with you can I tell you tonight the voice you need to tune your ear to is the voice of God and the voice of God says stay put believe in me walk by faith and not by sight there's a famine right now if y'all will get busy praying I'll blow the famine out of here and I'll bring some bread but if you go down to Moab there's trouble down in Moab when lust have conceived it bringeth forth sin and When sin is finished it bringeth forth death but even when you go down to to Moab even when you've spurred the Judgment the the spirit of God and youve pushed the spirit of God aside and your good conscience aside even when you get locked up down in Moab there's a voice of Mercy that says come on home come on back I'm going to love you freely I'm I'm going to forgive your sins come on back she heard that there was bread that God had visited his people and that God had given them bread now some of the commentaries commentaries give an interesting slant on this because Ruth two daughter-in-laws orpa and Ruth say that we're going with you that we're going with you we're going to go back with you there's an interesting slant on this that Naomi begins to say no do not go back I I I I you wouldn't wait on any more Sons to come out of my womb wait don't don't don't don't go back with me one commentary says he believes that Naomi had pride in her heart and she wanted to go back to the house of bread without any reminder of the poor decisions that she has made because obviously if I take these two girls back with me they're go they look like moabit they are moabi women they are moabi women brother Mayo if I take them back then everybody's going to start asking me hey who are these and then I've got to explain that I went down and thy husband died and my son two sons married them and they died I have to explain where I have to explain where I've been well orpa orpa she uh when Naomi said to her said why why are you following me said if if I would if I would get pregnant tonight would you wait around for a child to be born would you would you wait wait around and Ora said that makes sense to me and orpa turned around and went back to her gods in Moab but this little girl named Ruth whom the book Bears her name this little girl named Ruth said I want you to stop talking to me about leaving where you go I will go you know y'all know that where you go I will go your people shall be my people thy God shall be my God where you die there will I die and all but death p uh uh will part you from me now I want you to follow something with me I want you I want you to follow something when we make wrong decisions in our lives sometimes we give birth to things that are going to follow us yes even back back to Bethlehem oh y'all ain't listening to me tonight even back to Bethlehem Judah things are going to follow us back consequences are going to please don't give up on living for God because you got Ruth with you please don't give up living for God because you made some wrong I guarantee you when her husband died she was filled with we made the wrong decision when her son died she she was revealed we made the wrong decision please do not give up on serving God because you have come back and you've got a root beside you you have got a product of where you've been because I got news for you God is able to work all things together for the good to them that love God and who are the called according to his purpose brother Nash God can take the products of a wrong decision and turned them around and blessed them and caused them to be a blessing in the Kingdom but I got new I got to tell you something and and and maybe I'm not preaching to you so much tonight maybe somebody online needs to hear this you need to bring your roof back to the house of God you need to bring your problems back to the house of God because there's an answer in this house there's a healing in this house there's a Deliverance in this house there's a purpose in this house there's a way maker in this house there's a problem solver in this house there's a God who's able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you oh oh my God he can you believe that tonight you believe that shout yes yes I believe that I believe that she said I'm going with you wherever you go I'm going you can't separate me I am the product of your decision El me and look at chapter 1 verse number 19 so they too so they too went until they came to Bethlehem and it came to pass when they were Come to Bethlehem that all the city was moved upon them and they said is this Naomi can I tell you Moab will be hard on you Moab will take the sheen off your face Moab will take the smile off your face Moab will take the twinkle out of your eye Moab will rob your children of their innocence Moab will so mess with you that when you do come back people will say is this Naomi they were moved when they saw them is this Naomi they said what she says and she said unto them Bara for the almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me I went out oh I hope you're seeing this I went out wait wait a minute no no no no time out you left because you thought you were empty you left because you think let me tell you something sometimes the famine reveals to us our true Treasures sometimes heartache and sometimes when we're not where we need to be with God and God lets a famine come into our life it's then that we that we look around and say I'm going to tell you something this is really the true treasure right here right here's truly she said I went out full but the Lord hath brought me home again empty why then call ye me Naomi seeing the Lord that testified against me and the almighty hath Afflicted me she said I'm G to tell you something one of the first steps in getting help everybody say help come on say it again one of the first steps in getting help is to admit you need it one of the first steps of plucking bitterness out of your life is for it to come out of your mouth in the presence of God I'm bitter I'm hurt now the person you need to tell that to is the person that can do something about it and that's God my BFF can't help me all right well I need to talk to brother Marsha I've really been hurt by some men here at the church me you need to get get for coffee I I've really been hurt that's not the way to get help the way to get help is to take it to the one that can reach way down in my heart and start plucking it out start plucking it out and I say God God it hurts but I forgive them God it hurts but I I I forg and I go back to Sunday morning Jesus Christ cried from the cross father forgive them and not one person on Earth was asking for forgiveness but he went ahead and wrote a blank check and said I'll forgive them anyway that's how we get how you get help Church is you got to admit that you need it some of you are trying to talk your Ruth into staying in the car while you come in the church cuz you don't want anybody to know that where you've been and the situation that you got there is no situation there's no new people here at this church that can bring us any stories of their past life that we're going to ask them to find another place to go because we understand that there is a Boaz in Bethlehem there is a redeemer in in Bethlehem oh come on aren't you glad there's a Boaz in Bethlehem I'm no Boaz is in Moab but there's a Boaz in Bethlehem there there there's a mighty Redeemer that's in Bethlehem got to admit you need help I said you got to admit you need help you ain't going to get help till you admit God I need some help so Ruth and Naomi Naomi said don't don't Naomi she said don't call me Naomi that word Naomi means Pleasant said don't you call me Pleasant call me bitter because that's what I am I'm bitter the Lord had dealt bitterly with me don't don't call me Pleasant I'm not putting on a show here I'm going to tell you the people God can help is the people that'll be transparent mask wearers get no blessings in the house of God but you give me some people you you you give me some oh friend you get M matter of fact matter of fact anytime we have a group of men or women here that are obviously needing help and they're wanting help and they've admitted they needed help anytime we get people like that at our church there will be a strong anointing of God's presence why because God is an end to blessing mask people God is an end to blessing people that are going to cry themselves to sleep tonight and and get in the car and say well I made it through I checked this off my list I made one more Wednesday night God I'm trying to earn my keep with you God I'm miserable I'm without Joy God doesn't bless any of that but you give me a bunch of men and women that come in they're not wearing masks their life is a mess and they know it and that's why they've come to hear a message because their life is in a mess and it seemed like the Holy Ghost is says I want to visit right there I I I just want to come down when Ruth when Naomi walked back into Bethlehem Judah and she had Ruth by God said I believe I can start working some things out on oh don't you want God to start working for you don't you want God to start working on your behalf don't you want God to start working on your behalf well oh Naomi and Ruth move into Bethlehem Judah and next morning or the morning after one of the mornings I think it was probably quck old Ruth says you know I know how this I know how this welfare system works around here if you don't have any food you go to the field and you you you you get behind you get behind the the the the the people that are gleaning in the field there are Reapers in the field you got to stay certain so many feet back and and and and and and something they leave a leave leave a little bit you you can reach down and pick it up you can't get real close to the Reapers cuz they'll they they'll have a little Whip and they'll whip you away but if you stand far enough back you can reach down it it was the welfare system you can you can reach down and if you'll stand in the field long enough brother then you get enough to eat for one day you go to the field every you go to the field every day so Ruth went just walking she didn't know are you listening to me tonight Ruth didn't know Bethlehem Judah she had never been to Bethlehem Judah before she didn't know anything about it all she did she went walking down the street and all a sudden she seen a field over there and they were reaping in that field she seen a field over here they were reaping in but she thought I think I'll go over Yonder field she got into Yonder field and she be to glean and she begin she begin to glean in the field and she glean for several hours and up come riding Mr Boaz she had done wandered into boaz's field now Boaz is her father-in-law's brother which makes him a kinsman redeemer what is a kinsman redeemer a kinsman redeemer could marry the wife of a dead brother brother for the purpose of raising up the name of the Dead brother and so she didn't know it but she was in that field and guess whose attention and of course and of course listen to me now a kinsman redeemer is the Old Testament type of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ she said or Boaz came and Boaz noticed oh yes Boaz not noticed rof in the field and he said whose damsel is this and they said oh this is the daughter-in-law of Naomi and uh they came back and she's been they even said it say she' been working hard in the field said she just took a little break she just took a little break over here and but she'd been working hard all morning long in the field old Boaz walked over and he said Ruth It's Been Told to me what you have done with your mother-in-law it's been told to me how you have followed uh your your mother-in-law how you didn't have to come back but you wanted to come back you it's been told me that you had a heart that wanted to get out of Moab you had a heart that didn't want to worship them false gods anymore you had a heart that wanted to come with your mother because you saw something in your motherin-law about the God of Israel whose wings you have come under to trust and said because because you've done that because you've done that Ruth he said uh in about an hour or so they'll spread a blanket out here and they'll serve lunch right here and I want you I want you to come up around the table and you're going to eat what the Reapers eat and he said there'll be big pots of water said all over the field said don't you leave the field and go somewhere you just go drink out of those same vessels and and oh she was just over so overcome that Boaz would take notice of of of me and who am I what have I done that boas can I tell you something people are going to come to church because they're hungry for God they're tired of this world this world has said it would deliver and it hasn't delivered they're empty they're hungry they're searching and you know what before we ever lay eyes on them there's a God there's a Bo ass that is saying oh you're in the right field right now oh you're in the right you're you're in you're in the right field right now and then then then he told her this he said now don't you go to any other field but my field I want you in my field and she oh she was so overcome about like sinner people are and we should feel when we feel the presence of the Lord who am I that a king would bleed and die for who am I to live the way that we live and we can come into the house of God and feel the wonderful presence of God you know what that feeling is that feeling is a god a Boaz that sees us trying and sees us trying to make an effort he knows you're not perfect stop telling him you're not perfect you're telling him something he already knows he's not looking for Perfection he's looking for hunger and I believe he has found it at First Apostolic church he has found a group of hungry people then then I want you to follow this tonight then she left I I'd say she was very thankful brother Robert she just left probably tears streaming down her old moabit his face and she left and she she's just I don't know why he asked me to sit at the table I don't know why he's BL I don't know why he's he's done and when he left she couldn't hear it but he said to the Reapers he said boys when you're reaping he said take you some handful and Pitch it behind your back and let it fall on purpose well that's not the way we that's the way you're going to reap you you you you going to take some stuff and leave it for the roof in the field you're just going to take some and so she started getting out there I got to stay 10 feet back yeah you stay 10 feet back and lo here she came up on a whole meal right here and she picked up that meal and put it in her veil and she went a few more feet and she picked up another meal and by the end of the day she had a whole sack full she had a week's worth of food she don't know it's she don't know she's a moabit she don't know that's a lot so she takes it home looks like Santa Claus coming through the mall she takes that sack of food home lays it out on Naomi's table and Naomi says blessed be thou of God who took notice of you today she said a man named Boaz Boaz oh blessed sweetheart that's a kinsman redeemer that's a kinsman redeemer right there and she said tell you what we're going to do said tomorrow night they're having a big harvest party they've harvest the whole field they'll be playing music they'll be drinking and eating and Boaz will be there and said now now you can you can find you can find this in the third chapter you can find this in the third chapter of room she said he said she said' Ruth she said take a bath and anoint yourself I guess she said put on your best thing I I mean I mean I want you to get all gussied up I mean you you get all smelling good you get your perfume uh Israel number five I me you get you get you get all smelling good and said you go down there at the field and said oh Boaz will get sleepy about midnight and said about midnight old Boaz will get sleepy and said you just kind of creep in where he's at and lay at his feet uncover his feet UNC go down there uncover his feet I'm gonna stop right there for a minute if I can have condemnation for giving bad advice can God not praise me for giving good advice there some some women in this congregation tonight you're living in guilt because you have given years of bad advice and the devil wants to beat you up because you gave years of bad advice but God sent me here tonight to tell you that you can overcome the years of bad advice by turning around and start giving some good advice hey I want to tell you how to meet the kinsman redeemer I I want to tell you how to get your life together yeah you may not have raised your kids the way they should have been raised you might not have told them the right things but you can't cry over spilled milk but you can start telling them the right way to live for God hey we need to go to church hey I I know you might not go to church but would you let me take my grandbabies to church and I'm going to teach my grandbabies how to serve God I'm going to teach my grandbabies how to live some of us need to be reminded that that beautiful chapter in Proverbs chapter 31 of The Virtuous Woman and the woman that wrote chapter 31 of the virtuous woman a virtuous woman was you do realize that was bath Sheba who wrote that all right I mean David didn't force her to come to his house David didn't force her although he was King he didn't force her she came on her own free will you see the god that we serve I'm trying to I'm trying to help somebody tonight because the last thing that we need to believe is that we are the prisoners to Moab we need to understand that when we come to church there's a kinsman redeemer if you just get up and praise him and worship him the kinsman redeemer sees your praise he sees your worship he sees your heart she said Ruth I know exactly how to tell you said you go down there take your bath anoint yourself cologne perfume dress up find out where Boaz is laying at and said go up wait till he's good and asleep go up take the blanket off his feet and lay down at his feet and he'll tell you the rest she goes down does exactly I'm G tell you something if you'll follow somebody that's following God they can give you right directions if you're following somebody that's following God they'll give you the right directions but if you're following somebody that's not following God that lead you in the wrong direction you need to follow somebody that's lived in Bethlehem Judah that knows how to tell you you what you need to do to get the attention of the kinsman redeemer so she goes down she got a veil over her face she goes down Boaz done eating drun drunk and he's went and laid down right right by a big pile of corn he lays down covers up and old Ruth goes down takes that blanket and uncovers him feet and the wind begins to blow across him feet a few minutes later he he wakes up he said he said said who who who are you who who are you and she says her her mother-in-law told her this it was a proposal of marriage she said spread your skirt Over Me In other words take me for a wife and when she said that to him he said oh blessed said this this is beyond everything that you've done to to to want me to want you to want me in your life to want me to seek after me it's something he he was overwhelmed but he said one problem said there's a kinsman redeemer that's closer than I said I will go down to the gate and said by this time tomorrow you will you will you will be married by this time tomorrow but he said I I would do it but there's a kinsman redeemer that's closer to me and so all we know we don't even know his name elmc went down to the gate and all we know him by is the phrase ho such a one that's sad that's all we know ho such a one he said ho such a one said Naomi has come back and said she seeks to sell a piece of property that our brother owned and said if you'll redeem it redeem it if not I'll redeem it he said ho such a one said I redeem the land he said but wait just wait a minute ho such a one he said in the day that you buy the field there's a girl that goes with a field by the name of Ruth a moabit he said oh I can't Mar my inheritance I can't mess up I've done got my family will all made out I can't go I can't go to bringing somebody else in in in in the family and and in that day when you would not fulfill the law of the kinsman redeemer you had to pluck off your shoe and hand it to the person and they spit in your face so ho such a one hobbled off with one shoe and spit dripping down his face can I tell you there's a kinsman redeemer closer and it's our adamic nature and we are by children we are by we are by Nature the children of Wrath but our great kinsman redeemer Jesus Christ Christ went to the gates of hell and stripped him of his right to have you and I and took his shoe and spit in his face and now there's going to be a wedding and now there's going to be a oh I I I just got to tell you tonight you'll never get help till you admit you have it and you'll never realize what God could grow in you until you pluck out the bitterness out of your life oh I want to close tonight I want to close tonight why don't you just go to Ruth chapter 4 verse number one Ruth chapter 4 and verse number one then went Boaz up to the gate set sat down there and behold the Kinsmen of whom Boaz spake came by andto whom he saido such a one say I wasn't making that up turn aside sit down here and he turned aside and sat down he took 10 men of the Elders of the city and and said sit down you he and they sat down and he said unto the Kinsmen he he said unto unto the Kinsmen Naomi that is come again out of the country of Moab sell the partial land which was our brother elc's and I thought to advertise thee saying by it before the inhabitants and before the Elders of my people if thou wil redeem it redeem it but if thou wil not redeem it then tell me that I may know for there is none other to redeem it besides thee and I am after thee and he said I will redeem it then said Boaz what day thou buest the field what day thou buest the field of the hand of Naomi thou must buy it also of Ruth the moabites the wife of the Dead to raise up the name of the Dead upon his inheritance and the Kinsman said I cannot redeem it from myself lest I Mar my own inheritance redeem thou my right to thyself for I cannot redeem it now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing for to confirm all things a man plucked off his shoe gave it to his neighbor and this was a testimony in Israel therefore the Kinsman said unto Boaz buy it for thee so he drew off his shoe Boaz said unto the elders and to all the people ye are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was ALC and all that was chilon and all that was meons of the hand of Naomi moreover Ruth the moabitas the wife of malan have I purchased sound like the church to be my wife to raise up the name of the Dead upon the inheritance that the name of the Dead be not cut off from among his Brethren and from the Gate of his place ye are witnesses this day and all the people that were in the gate and the elders said we Are Witnesses the Lord make the woman the Lord make the woman that has come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah which too did build the house of Israel and do thou worthily in ephi and be thou famous in Bethlehem and let thine house be like the house of thees whom Tamar bear unto Judah of the seed of the Lord shall give give thee to this young woman I'm reading all that to read this so Boaz took Ruth and she was his wife and when he went in unto her the lord gave her conception and bear a son now you think the story now is is just about Ruth and Boaz but it's not and the women said look at verse 14 and the women said unto Naomi Blessed Be of the Lord which ha hath not left thee this day without a Kinsman that his name may be famous in Israel he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life and a nourisher of thine old age for thy daughter-in-law which loveth thee which is better to thee than seven sons have borne him Naomi took the child and lay it in her bosom and became nursing to it the woman her neighbors gave it a name saying this is a son born to who who's it born to no it's born to Ruth but wait a minute you always marry your decisions Naomi because you were willing to go back to Bethlehem Judah when you said I'm bitter call me bitter don't call me Pleasant I'll be bitter for the rest of my life God said I've got a kinsman redeemer and if you'll follow my ways Naomi God's going to pluck that bitterness out of your heart and Ruth is going to marry Boaz and you're going to have a little baby in your arms and it's going to be the nourisher of your oh friend hear me tonight Jesus Christ can give us joy even when we've made the wrong decisions even when we've done things we shouldn't do get on your feet and give God some praise before we go home tonight come on give God some praise tonight give God some praise tonight he's a nourisher in our old age oh he come on I mean it come on Church get on your feet and give God well you don't know what I've done I don't want to know what you done that was Moab we're living in Bethlehem now we're living in Bethlehem right now come on praise him just a little bit more do you believe it church do you believe it church do you believe God's got a kinsman redeemer remain standing with me tonight and I'll send you home do you really believe it do you believe that we serve a God that God doesn't write with a pen he write with a pencil and it's got an eraser on the other end and God's able to erase all this stuff out and said look at them good decisions he's made look at them good decisions they made look at that good look at that good advice why why they used to tell people how to roll one up and now they're telling people how to get the Holy Ghost well they used to tell people where you could buy it at and now they're telling people where to go to church at I'm telling you you watch every grandparent in this building right now smile grandchildren the greatest Christmas gift I got I think Nolan flanner got it for me the
