turn with me in your Bible and I hope that your Bible automatically just falls open here I hope I hope it just automatically falls open to Acts chapter 2 and verse number 37 I hope it just automatically just falls open to that passage and while you're looking for that passage of Scripture I want to welcome several special guests with us tonight we are so glad to have Bailey Cove II in the house with us tonight we love her very much her mom and dad are evangelists and one of the things I want to say about the COBE family is anytime they've ever come to conference a day early and sister carpenter's setting out and working the Kobey's will come and they'll find us and they'll say here we are here we are what what can we do what can we do and they and Bailey is so good to have you in the house with us tonight we so certainly certainly appreciate you coming worshiping with us all it's good to have sister sharps mom and dad with us tonight from the great state of Kentucky from the great state of Kentucky and sister peeler it's so good to have you all tonight we love you and we're going to get along in life as long as you don't ever try to take something back to Kentucky with you alright so good to have sister Nash's mom and dad with us tonight and worshiping the Lord we are the beneficiaries of a lot of what of the people I just announced our church has been very very blessed because of the Nashes and because of the Sharps and I I'm certainly thankful for that tonight could we give all of our guests a great big first Apostolic Church Handclap offering Apostolic Church just like this in my city and we're going to do that in so you can go somewhere and worship the Lord there with a bunch of apostolic people one more time can we give the Lord a great hand now when they heard this they were pricked in their heart and said unto Peter and to the rest of the Apostles men and brethren what shall we do then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost for the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are afar off even as many as the Lord our God shall call now I just won't go ahead and tell you right now I am NOT going to preach on those three verses but they're so close that it would be a sin for an apostolic preacher to read Acts two and 40 and not just go up that's just good to listen we'd go home right now and be fed couldn't we aren't you thankful you obeyed that message I am but that's not what I'm gonna preach on tonight and with many other words did he testify and exhort say save yourselves from this untoward generation father I love you tonight thank you for the people that have come out to worship and to receive from the word may the climax of our service Lord be the receiving of your word father i bind every devil tonight that would try to confuse any mind and I asked for the Holy Ghost to have its free course through this auditorium Lord give the spirit of Revelation upon us help us tonight to receive from your word your coming soon and we must be ready and we must be getting everyone ready that we can in Jesus name I do pray amen and amen you may be seated thank you for standing in honor of the reading of God's Word well verse number 40 speaks of two points there are two points in verse number 40 that I'd like to draw to your attention point a is a personal responsibility would you say that with me a personal responsibility well we can't lay here we've not been laying hands on one another here for lately so let's just lay hands on ourselves tonight and say it with me a personal responsibility said again a personal responsibility Acts chapter 2 and verse number 40 Peter said that you have a personal responsibility it is it is up to you not your mama not your daddy not your pastor not your wife not your husband not your friend friends he says it is up to you to save yourself so if you're saved there's two people that need to take the credit it's Jesus Christ and yourself all right Jesus Christ and the fact that you took personal responsibility save yourself that's the first point but the second point is from this untoward generation now I told you a few weeks ago that I was going to begin a series of finding your place in the church and I found myself in developing this series finding it needful that we understand who we are in the world as the church we understand who we are as the church because there's no need to try to find your place if you don't know who you are all right it's it's like asking for directions but you don't know where you want to go right it's like asking for directions and they said well where are you going well I don't know well that's hard that's hard to tell you where you need to go when you don't will you you don't know where you want to go well it's hard to place you and find your place if we don't understand our purpose as the church he said that it is your personal responsibility and then he said to save yourselves from this untoward generation now this untoward generation is a morally crooked and correct culture a morally although the word generation is used we can also substitute the word culture he stops here and he says it is up to you to save yourself from this morally corrupt culture you are in this dis verse of scripture was spoken over 2,000 years ago and he addresses in acts 2:38 how to get in the church how to be born again but in that's 240 he also addressed a culture of which is crooked and perverse and untoward and he said this is an untoward a crooked and perverse culture now it was spoken in the year of AD 33 so tonight I have done some research today because I wanted to examine what the culture was like in AD 33 I've done extensive research today on what was the culture like when Peter stood up and said save yourself from this untoward crooked morally corrupt culture what was it like well when Peter spoke these words the world was ruled by Rome it was ruled by Rome from England to Africa from Syria to Spain one in every four people on earth lived and died under Roman law the Roman government the Roman law was the prevailing culture of the day so I began to research what was the culture like in that day I found that the male had absolute rule over his household and children if they angered him he had the legal right to disown his children he could sell them into slavery or he could even have them killed only the male could own property whatever their age until their father died his sons only received an allowance to manage their own households sons were important because Romans put a lot of value on continuing the family name if a father had no sons then he could adopt one it was a nephew to make sure that the family line would not die out women Roman women usually married in their early teenage years while men waited until they were in their mid-20s as a result the mother of the family was usually much younger than her husband sister carpenter likes to hear that as was custom as was common in Roman society while men had the formal power women exerted influence behind the scenes it was accepted that the that the woman or the mother was in charge of managing the household in the upper classes the mother the wife was expected to assist her husband's career by behaving modestly and grace and with dignity then the influence of women only went so far it only went so far it was the woman that had the right to decide whether now this is Roman law only the woman had the right to decide whether she would keep a newborn baby it was Roman law that the woman had the right whether to keep her newborn baby after birth the room looks something like this the Roman woman gives birth a midwife takes the baby and places the baby on the ground only if the mother picked it up was the baby formally accepted in the family now get the image she gives birth a midwife takes the baby and lays the baby on the ground the mother begins to examine the baby the baby only was named when she would reach down and pick up the baby but if she just but if her if the decision went the other way if she decided not to keep the baby the baby was what they termed exposed you know I'll tell you that in a moment she decides not to keep the baby the baby was exposed it was deliberately abandoned outside this usually happened to deform babies or when the father did not think that the family could support another child babies were exposed in a certain location they were placed and when one would walk by dislocation and see an abandoned baby they knew that they could either take the baby and adopt the child or they would walk by if by chance no one walked by you know as well as I do an infant could not live long in that state that at the end of the day they came by as they picked up the trash through the city of Rome they came by and swept up the babies and took them to the heap of garbage kind of sound familiar here maybe the technology is a little differently today Rome waited till they were born our government our culture save yourselves our culture says you can end it while it's yet in the womb that's right and in and and tonight let me say this woe be to the pool pet and the pastor and the church they cannot address subjects that sometimes cause people to be uncomfortable if anyone here tonight thinks I'm trying to open up a scar on a woman who's had an abortion you are so far wrong you of all people need to be my biggest amen you of all people need to slip up to me tonight after service and assure me pastor please tell the student section not to buy in to the untoward generation please tell them it's not over when it's away it's not over when the abortion when they say the baby is no longer there you will live with it you will count the birthdays it will go with you and go with you so let's understand that tonight I have young girls and young men here that I by the help of God are going to use the remaining years of my ministry to instill in them save yourselves from this crooked morally crooked generation oh but it wasn't all bad Rome had religion oh yes as a matter of fact Rome really had the right foundation for religion for Rome used the Latin word religio which means something that binds now see how far we went on this when they entered into a religion they said it is something that binds four Romans religion was a force that bound families together bound subjects to their ruler and bound men to their gods it was a religion that bound them to the gods that they served it bound them if that be a religion and a foundation God give us a religion that binds us to the truth give us a religion that binds us to the truth Roman religion was divided into two spirits plural they believed watched over people families and households and the head of the home the father was in charge of the household worship that honored them Romans also had a set of public gods such as Jupiter and Mars state worship was much more formal College is a priest pray tribute to these gods on behalf of Rome itself the objective of Roman worship was to gain the blessing of the gods plural and thereby gain prosperity for themselves and for their families and for their communities Emperor's understood the central importance of religion to the lives of the Romans and used it for their own good Augustus appointed himself the chief priest as he used the appearance of Halley's Comet to claim Augustus did he claimed that he was a son of a God there was cult worship unlike most I really want you don't because this is the what Peter was saying save yourself from there was worship there was worship unlike most religions today the Roman gods did not demand strong moral behavior Roman religion involved cult worship approval from the gods did not depend on the person's behavior but on perfectly accurate observance of religious rituals each God needed an image usually usually a statue or something carved in stone or bronze an altar temple at which to offer the prayers and the sacrifices think about that they served a God that did not have to alter your lifestyle they serve gods that expected no moral change in you you could claim to be a believer in one of the gods and nothing was ever expected out of you save yourselves from this untoward generation however the Roman religion was not the only one practiced in the 1st century AD communities of Jews had existed in the cities throughout the Roman Empire for centuries although they were generally treated with respect trouble did occur the Jewish philosopher Philo wrote a brutal treatment in Alexandria while a revolt in Judea led to the destruction of the temple and a change in the practice of the Jewish faith but the first century also saw the birth of a brand new religion Rome said Rome said we've got a brand new religion that has been birth although its founder was executed by Rome at an early age Jesus would have a massive impact on the Roman Empire after his death his message of eternal life and hope spread across the empire by missionaries such as Paul although Christians in Rome suffered appalling persecution at times their ideas and doctrines refused to die instead Rome put him to death but little did Pilate know that day that Pilate was actually signing the death warrant for the mighty Empire of Rome when he sentenced Jesus to be crucified a short life and a brutal death was enough to ensure that Jesus message of hope and everlasting life would spread across Judea and across the Empire and ultimately the world one of the father's corners of the Roman Empire Judea was a land of ancient traditions in erver decades of Roman rule were causing even more resentment but in the midst of resentment and chaos was born Jesus Jesus was born from a family village named Nazareth near the Sea of Galilee as he was growing up Judea was collapsing in kada chaos you got it you got to see this to understand the meaning of the Bible the atmosphere that Jesus was born in was a collapsing chaotic culture it was Judea it was the Jews hating the Rome Romans and the Romans hating the Jews into this culture Jesus is born it's population had split into hostile groups preachers and prophets roamed the countryside drawing enormous passionate crowds at the age of 30 Jesus joined one of these groups and was baptized in the Jordan River shortly afterward he began a ministry of his own like many other preachers he traveled around Judea which is predominantly poverty-stricken it was predominantly poverty-stricken he took his message into poor homes and poor synagogues in the poorest of the country he began to proclaim the kingdom of God is at hand the message announced there was a kingdom greater than Rome can you hear me tonight a kingdom greater than Rome was on the horizon that God would provide and that the poorest members of society would find relief and hope it was a complete new message one which excited the audience what turned the Modi Tunes upside down was false prophets came along but they only wanted to fellowship with the affluent and the wealthy false prophets came along but they were only interested in those that could benefit them but from the wilderness cried a voice of a man that we know by the name of John the Baptist and John the Baptist was preached not just to the fluent and the wealthy but he was preaching to those that were in the depths of all kind of poverty and he excited them by telling them the kingdom of God is at hand and it's a greater Kingdom than ever before although his message was proving popular the claim of his disciples that Jesus was the son of God offended many people once more his ideas was revolutionary and threatened to undermine thousands of years of social tradition Pharisees and Sadducees around the year of thirty 33 AD Jesus traveled to the city of Jerusalem for the Jewish ceremony of Passover there are thousands of pilgrims from around the world and the temple provided services for them that they could change their foreign money and buy animals for sacrifice Jesus was furious about what he saw he believed that trade like this corrupted the holy site of the prayer of the temple according to the Gospel of st. John he wrecked the stalls of the moneylenders and drove him all out of the temple this outburst enraged religious leaders and threatened to destroy the fragile peace that had been imposed by Rome Jesus was soon to be arrested on a charge of treason and he was crucified a common form of execution for condemned prisoners to the Romans Jesus was a troublemaker he is just a troublemaker to the Christians however he was a martyr it was soon clear that the execution made Judea even more unstable Pontius Pilate the Roman governor of Judea and the man and the men who ordered the crucifixion were ordered home by disgrace because after the death and after Pentecost Jerusalem became a seething hotbed and the Emperor sentences pilot and his leaders to go home but this would spread across the world save yourselves from this untoward generation now brothers and sisters tonight I am here to prepare us to be the church in this last day we all have witnessed the upheaval that's in our world tonight all of us both both young middle aged and elderly can all testify one thing we've never seen it this way before but I come tonight with a message from God to simply tell the church one more time save yourself from this crooked morally corrupt culture don't be deceived by this culture this culture that boasts of love but demonstrates hate I'm telling the church tonight I'm talking to the church that's built upon Jesus Christ and his chosen apostles save yourselves from this untoward generation should we take a moment and just ask God to help us tonight to identify the untoward generation come on lift your voice tonight I've got to be safe from this culture this deceiving culture this culture that has an agenda I must save myself jesus warned us not only to jesus warned us the Apostles warned us but it would be in Matthew chapter 12 and verse number 34 because after all we are built upon Jesus Christ and His apostles so not only did Peter say it's your personal responsibility it's your personal responsibility save yourself but Jesus Christ Himself in Matthew chapter 12 and verse number 434 he said all generation of vipers how can ye being evil speak good things for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh now when he called them a generation he said a culture I can use the word culture in place of generation and do no harm to the word of God it could be as if he said oh culture of vipers why did he call him a culture of vipers because they were trying to deceive people to enter their culture by speaking good words he said oh you generation you culture of vipers you know a Viper a snake works something similar to this for the snake to be successful it has to have the element of surprise most of time people that are snake bitten are snake bitten because they got too close some have even reached in some of even stepped on that's how he works the culture wants to move in around us and then the second thing happens when the prey gets close enough to the culture the Viper latches on to the prey but he's not done he makes sure that he gets a firm grip upon whatever the prey is he makes sure s/he tilts his head back and forth that he's using all the muscle of his jaw because immediately upon feeling the binding of the serpent a person begins to want to shake the serpent off so the Viper knows that he must work swiftly because just-just-just attaching himself to the prey is not what kills the prey what kills the prey is when the Viper latches on then his fangs come out and he injects his fangs into the blood and there he secretes the poison it's not the bite of a serpent it's not the latching on that kills you it's when it gets in your bloodstream that's what kills you he said oh you culture of vipers that's why we've got to be very careful to have a buffer zone between us and to save yourselves from this ungodly morally corrupt culture because if we get too close to this culture it will launch itself on us and then it will begin to drip drip drip the poison into our system I've often played with the fact of this kovat how it can be caught by people coughing and I've wondered if there's not some parallels with carnality how if we get around to culture the less the famous last words of fallen Christians is it won't happen to me famous last words of trespassers over into a culture you don't belong in won't happen to me famous last words you see tonight our media needs to be addressed the church doesn't look to the media for moral or spiritual guidance the media has an agenda come on oh I hope I'll wake you up tonight the media has an agenda has an agenda you say oh yeah there's left-wing and right-wing right and they both have an agenda they both have an agenda can I tell you this that you can be morally good but spiritually dead I mean some people can name more news commentators then they can't apostles oh yeah I do you what I got so so record I'll watch him every night man he's right how much you read your Bible how much did you pray what you talking about I'm talking about the man may be morally right or the woman may be morally right but they're spiritually dead how can people who are spiritually dead lead those that are spiritually alive you see tonight we need to get off of the left and the right and we need to get in the book and understand we're not the land nor the riot we're the church we're the church don't you try to divide me in this culture I'm neither laughs and I'm neither the ride I am the church the right wouldn't have a position if it wasn't for the Word of God come on it's me the church save yourself morally good but spiritually then I'm sorry if I hurt your things tonight but they're spiritually dead and they've got an agenda they've got an agenda it's not our agenda it's not my agenda I don't have to watch uncertain news to get my morals I don't have to work just I don't I don't have to watch a certain news to be comforted in my immoral lifestyle save yourself cheer responsibility save yourself I was asked one time I was asking one time did it ever embarrass me to give an altar call which nobody come because the person that brought this to my attention said you know what you give altar calls and nobody comes system that does that not embarrass you of which I've never give it a thought of embarrassment not the first thought because all I am is an opportunist what you do with this opportunity is the blood on your hands not my hands Peter fulfilled his mission Lee said save yourself from this godless culture so no I I don't have one sense of embarrassment tonight other than to tell you you better read your Bible and don't wait till it's too late you know the only thing that's going to see us stews our faith and I don't want to have to listen it's too late to buy insurance after you've wrecked the car when the house burns down don't call the agent up because he's not going to help you I can remember when we built said Carmody remember we built the first church on the hill and I tried brother Peter with all my heart I tried to dwindle my my my spending down as far as I could and we had fight a little truck and I had full coverage on this truck and so I decided to drop the coverage I just had enough to cover somebody if I hit them but not me not much not the truck you wouldn't cover me and only cover them and it would it wasn't a month oh and what month went by brother and sister Dotson invited us over for dinner and I was late and sister Carter had to drive on and I had to come out a little bit later in my truck and on the road on the way home from dinner the biggest deer in all the world jumped right out in front of me he landed on the hood of the car busted the windshield gutted the front of the car out and I barely I barely caught up with sister carpenter and flashing my lights and I was trying to wonder why she not responding I'm flashing my lights will the deer it knocked all the grill all the headlights they were hanging down to one one of them wasn't even there so I got up next morning I called the insurance guy and I said I signed him I dropped but is there any hope for me he said yeah he said go out there and see if that deer had full coverage come on you better get full coverage you know I don't know I don't know how long it's going to be i lord help me choose my words right I've always believed we're going to be raptured before the tribulation but I don't know how much of the tribulation the winds are going to blow who would ever thought I talked to miles young today you pastors in Sacramento they had to go against their governor's wishes their governor said no singing in church no singing they had to go against that and I would to whoever now see that a little bit of a bobbling here well no no no no no we ought to obey God rather than man I pray for Governor Bill Lee but if Governor Bill Lee puts out an order that we're not to sing when we come to church I'm sorry I'm going to obey God that sounds apostolic doesn't it I'd rather obey God rather than man save yourselves save yourselves what water is to a fish culture is to us humans let me read Ephesians five and eight talking about the church somebody saved the church the church so you are right so we are right not Democrat not Republican not Fox not CNN who are we come on who are we built on the Apostles doctrine save yourselves Ephesians five and eight oh I like the sound of that who are we for ye were sometimes darkness that's what we used to be but now are you light in the Lord walk as children of light for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth proving what is acceptable in to the Lord and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness culture but rather reprove them culture freed is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them culture in secret but all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light for whatsoever doesn't make manifest his light wherefore he saith arise thou that sleepest arise from the dead and Christ shall give thee light see then that ye walk circumspectly not as fool's but as wise he said to the church walk circumspectly that word circumspectly there means a circle know what's going on do we really realize what's going on in our culture tonight as the church do we realize the agenda of the culture do we realize it completing with us do we realize it do we realize what's going on in our culture today the division that's going on the removal of our history I like what one man said he said our founding fathers were not perfect but they came together to form a more perfect union they're striving man has been elevated in God Bless America god bless this country god bless our government god bless the foundation of our government that was written by the word foot written with the Word of God in my god Bless America you know how good we've got it tonight we ought to be thankful that we live in America you know how good we got it tonight yeah how good we got it tonight even people that hate America won't leave it you hear what I've said even our haters won't leave it that's how good it is but people that hate America won't leave it why don't you if you hate America why don't you go to Canada why don't you go somewhere else if it's such a bad place you staying here is a testimony to god bless america this great land that we live in we gotta wake up you got to wake up we live in the land of opportunity we live in a land that we're bathing in a wealth of opportunity may be seated our haters won't even leave as a matter of fact I think we're the only country on the earth that's had to build a wall no I'm wrong there are countries that have built walls to keep their citizens in but America we got to build a wall to keep people out why why because young people were bathing in opportunity do you realize tonight strong tower the land is yours young people in this world has burnt their heads up they have no direction because their culture their agenda has given them no purpose in life they are entertainment driven they are they are self-seeking pleasure mongering mugging people mongers they have no direction they have no self-worth but us we're of a culture that's totally different we're a royal generation that means culture we're a royal culture a holy priesthood the land is ours Babylon listen to me tonight Jonathan listen to me not young folks listen to me life I want to help you tonight if you end up a bummer of a life it's your own fault it's your own fault if you end up not amounting to anything it don't you blame your mom of your daddy the color your skin it ain't a skin problem it's a sin problem don't you start blaming this and start blaming that it's not a skin problem it's a sin problem it's not a race problem it's a great problem I'm excited for you I'm a 60 year old man and I'm excited for the opportunity that you had babbling babbling you see the ferment you taking my time babbling you're the most mighty up-to-date modern nation am iist of Babylon but what do you have a shortage of you have no shortage of wine you have no shortage of strong drink you have no shortage of meat what do you have a shortage of well what we got a shortage of is we need young people with the ability to stand in the King's presence and operate in the King's presence see all of that lewd lifestyle of Babylon had burnt up the minds of babylons youth to where they didn't have any youth to come up and take the place and stand in the presence of the king so when Babylon would go out of your Conqueror they would say be on the lookout for any young people that we can train them in the tongue of the cow den that we can train to be able to operate in the kingdom do you realise apostolic young people tonight of the apostolic culture the land is yours all you need to do is get in a covenant relationship with God and roll up your sleeve and success is written all over your life get a covenant with God roll up your sleeves go to school get as much education as you can keep God in the center of your life get out in the workforce work work please serve work hard and I'm telling you six cents is written all over your head the world is low man goodness the world is waiting on you Collin you hear me Colin the world is way kymmie you hear me I'm telling you in Jesus name the world is waiting on you you maybe see and that pastors preaching tonight save yourselves save yourselves am I the only 60 year old God that this happened to I'm not the only one that gets a little bit irritated when you walk into a fast food like McDonald's or Wendy's or Burger King and there's some young people working at the counter and you walk up and isn't it supposed to go this way is it not supposed to go this way how can I help you is that a little bit too fat old fashioned did that go out with Aunt Bea I mean come on did the Walton's mountain take that off the air but what happens sometimes you walk up to the counter and the young person on the other side and I don't know if I hadn't prayed enough one day but mean it's just a carpenter walked in and we walked up and oh boy our girl I don't know which is so I started turning my head the way they were turning there she said Jan åge any chance okay okay okay I'd like a number one there okay come on young folks all you have to do is save yourself tonight all you have to do it doesn't matter who your mom and daddy is it doesn't matter it doesn't matter where you're at right now all you have to do is say you know what I really believe that our pulpit knows more than what the media's been telling me I really believe that my pastor knows more about my life than the fashion industry I really believe that my pastor knows more say I was somebody stand you so save yourself save yourself from this on tour come on would you stand with me right now Oh hallelujah that's them this is us we don't ever want to become like Rome's church we are the church we are the church we don't follow a standard we set the standard we are the church oh my god I believe I'm preaching faith in this house tonight I believe I've got somebody this body into this save yourself agenda agenda if you will look at everything in your life and ask the question what's the agenda what's the agenda what's the agenda I guarantee you right now left and right news would disappear if the money of commercials was withdrawn it's in Genda I'll close with this this world's got an agenda you better wake up you better wait you better wake up Church you better wake up this world's got an agenda gonna wake up you better wake up you better wake up I don't believe you're gonna have enough faith if you wait until your car if you come to church they had it happen in Kentucky I don't know if you're gonna have enough faith if knowing to come to church they're going to come through the parking lot and read your a license plate give you a ticket because you're not supposed to be out we better wake up it's world's got an agenda I heard one pastor say it and I really believe it's true he said he believes everything that's happened with the United States the last three or four months is nothing but a dress rehearsal for the new one World Order over partner / Karbala I don't like it no I you you need to get back to telling us about there's one god jesus name baptism you need oh you you need to get back teaching us about metronome I need to be telling you right now you got to get ready you know brother Ferguson what was tormenting to me when we had to shut the church when we shut the church down do you know what I laid awake at night and wondered have I trained in people enough till you forgot you know we couldn't meet get a train of enough do they have enough hit them can they live for God without my voice in their lives three or four times a week cuz I don't want to scare anybody but I don't know how it's gonna in but I know if we'll keep our faith in God I know how will help them in the end but I'm gonna taking it on I don't know how much we're gonna go through to get to the end so that's why I'm preaching what I'm preaching save yourselves I am with this man with this the television has an agenda has an agenda and it's
