well i want you to turn with me quickly in your bible to psalms chapter 142 verses 1 and 2 and then psalms chapter 17 verse 15 and while you're looking for that passage of scripture i want to say what a jesus joy it is to be back home tonight and i'm so thankful to be back in maryville this evening it just seemed like we didn't plan it this way but brother salinas said that our church is a world-changing a world affecting church and boy haven't we seen that this week we had a group out in california brother erickson his sister erickson and a group of praised team brother sister hammond brothers sister carpenter uh nolan and flannery out in california along with several other our youth were out there in california and having camp meeting and then this morning we didn't plan it this way but brother nolan was down in georgia preaching at brother tim hammond's church brother hammond was down in alabama preaching for brother shane britt brother erickson was here preaching for the maryville church and and i hear he did an excellent job this morning aren't you glad we know how to worship but you're glad we know how to worship and then brother sister carpenter we were in uh play garden tennessee for brother sister parish and the wonderful church there the pentecostals of darden we literally left an altar right after church they had one baptized in jesus name several filled with the holy ghost and we we literally had to just just leave the altar get in the car and drive and get here and we tried to make it here on time and i made it here i was we were two minutes late and uh we're so glad uh so glad many of those from garden tennessee are watching tonight and our faithful watchers and i thoroughly thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed being with you the last couple of days and the wonderful presence of god mother tharp they took me on a tour i had never been to holiness hill i had never been to the old campground there in west tennessee and they they took me up around hole in this hill and and all of that those uh places and we live relive the memories and he would tell me how people would be parked out that whole hill up there uh would be full of people so we've just had a we've just had a wonderful wonderful time in the lord we really truly have but i've come this evening i believe jesus wants to continue to touch us tonight i believe the lord wants to i believe any time we'll lift him up anytime we'll lift him up psalms chapter 142 verse number one i cried unto the lord with my voice with my voice unto the lord did i make my supplication i poured out my complaint before him i shoot before him my trouble now turn with me to psalms chapter 17 psalms chapter 17 and verse number 15. as for me i will behold thy face in righteousness i shall be satisfied when i awake with thy likeness for just a few moments tonight i want to gather us in the altar because i believe the lord wants to touch us but i want to preach on a subject i think we all can relate to this is the subject between a rock and a hard place between a rock and a hard place father i love you this evening i thank you lord for the wonderful privilege god of standing in your house i thank you lord for the wonderful opportunity and honor to open up your word you anoint preaching you have used preaching to be the avenue to touch the souls of minds of men and women lord to those that are here with us tonight that need a touch and to those that simply need to be reminded that you're a faithful god i ask that you would anoint these lips of clay lord may i minister to the suffering and the needy tonight lord may i minister to those that may be discouraged in jesus name we pray amen and amen give the lord a hand to praise as you're being seated thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord thank you lord between a rock and a hard place now that's not my full title when i gave it to brother mcbroom my full title is when between a rock and a hard place find someone to help when you find yourself between a rock and a hard place find someone to help the psalms 142 and the psalm 17 are bookends they are both prayers that david prayed in a cave the cave of adulum he is there in a cave he is there in this cave because for the last several years of his life possibly two he has been on one more roller coaster his roller coaster ride started when his father gave him permission to go to the battle and give his brothers bread and cheese there at the battlefield david heard the cursing of goliath and before the day would be ended david would take the head of this giant called goliath what a roller coaster high that must have been he was immediately taken on that day from being a shepherd boy staying in the manger staying around the hay and staying around the smells of a barnyard he was immediately taken that day and he was taken to saul's palace where there he played the harp and there he served in saul's army he was called upon at times to play the harp for saul as saul was suffering from being demon oppressed and he would play the harp and then he would go out to battle for for saul and he would fight saul's battles what a what a ride that must have been as i've been trying in my mind today to relive what that that lowly poor shepherd boy must have been going through one moment he is barefooted in the barn and the next moment he's wearing the finest sandals and he's walking in king saul's palace what a roller coaster ride that must have been but it all changed one day not david's thought david didn't tell him to sing it david had no part in writing the song but one day the young ladies decided to write a new song and it went something like this saul has slain his thousands but david has slain his tens of thousands when king saul heard these words jealousy that old green-eyed demon struck him and saul became insanely jealous of king david to the point that he would have killed david on several occasions by by throwing a spear or a javelin at him finally david had to make up in his mind david david had to run and become a fugitive follow this roller coaster if you would from one moment he is a barefooted boy in the mangers tending to the sheep the next moment they're slipping on some of the finest leather sandals a young man could ever wear one moment he's eating common food the next moment he's eating food prepared for israel's king one moment he's with the sheep the next moment he's a national hero why if they had cereal boxes back in david's day david would certainly be on the front of every cereal box if they had action figure heroes in that day david would certainly be the action figure of all action figures but oh how it changed when david soon becomes a fugitive he's being lied upon and he's running for his life saul has used all of his political powers to paint david as a liar some insurrectionist that is trying his best to upset the kingdom of israel david finds himself all alone in a cave called adulum he's all alone there in that cave but i want you to know something there is an anointing upon david there is an anointing that is greater than a lie that can be told on him there is an anointing on david that almighty god has in his life there is an anointing on david that not only does god recognize that anointing not only does god recognize the oil was poured on that shepherd boy but there's something about david that men and women are automatically like a magnet they are attracted to david they can't tell you why they're attracted to him there's just something about the anointing of god and the anointing of god is like a magnet it just pulls people in the shane's invited a wonderful couple to come to the sevierville church and last tuesday night they had moved to the area and they've not yet found themselves a church a church family or a church home they are not of the apostolic faith they were there on the front row of the church and as the service started and the presence of god began to fill that place just a normal average tuesday night bible study i watched i watched as a tear flowed down the man's face and he wiped a tear away i watched him during service i watched his wife worship the lord i watched him engage and all that he that he was comfortable engaging in worship on tuesday nights the first tuesday night of the month we all will have we'll bring a covered dish there to severeville and that with after the bible study we'll set tables up and we'll have a time of fellowship and this man and woman stayed for that fellowship and i talked to them a little bit and the man said the preacher said i want to level with you i said i just want to level with you said my wife told me today she said we've not found a home church yet and we need to find a home church and really i didn't want to come tonight you know in the back of my mind i just really didn't want to do the church thing today not today but said because my wife was so persistent i found myself here and when i walked in i i'll be straight with you and just tell you i thought you know this is another church this is just another thing that we're going to go through but he said when that group got up and began to sing and open the service he said something as just it grabbed a hold of me and said i couldn't stop said the tears were flowing and i knew automatically that we had found the place that we need to be can i tell you what that is that's not talent that's not an orator that wasn't the grandeur of a building there in sevierville that was the wonderful attracting of the anointing of the holy ghost there's something about the anointing of god there's something about the anointing of god david is in the cave he's alone he's alone in the cave and there he is he writes a psalm he writes a psalm psalms 142 and verse 1 and 2. he writes it and he uses the word complaint he says i'm complaining he's complaining about this cave it's complaint and he uses the word trouble complaint and trouble he's there in the mouth of that cave i found out today that from the mouth of the cave of adulum that the valley of which david killed goliath is visible think about that think about one moment standing and thinking i took off running from that hill right over there and down that valley and goliath came from this hill over here and down through here and about right there is where i met him and took his head off of his shoulders you know it's something when you're anointed and you're killing giants but it's another thing when you're anointed and you're in a cold damp cave i'm talking about being between a rock and a hard place when you don't understand why you're not still killing giants and you're in a cold damn cave but something happened between psalms 142 and psalm 17. because psalm 17 15 says i shall be satisfied when i awake with thy likeness psalms 142 says i don't like this place i'm complaining about this place i'm i'm troubled about this place but when you take these two bookends and begin to study something happened between his complaint and his satisfaction something took place that something that took place can be found if you will join me in first samuel chapter number 22 and verse number one something happened something happened between a rock and a hard place something happened between complaining and troubled and satisfaction psalms or first samuel 22 and 1 david therefore departed fence and escaped to the cave of adulum and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it they went down feather to him and everyone that was in distress and everyone that was in debt and everyone that was discontented gathered themselves unto him and he became a captain over them and there were with him about 400 men i'm troubled i'm complaining but i'm anointed i'm troubled and i'm complaining i don't understand what i'm doing here ah you know something if we focus only on our trouble and our complaint we will never come out of our cave because life becomes all about me i my i become selfish self-centered and life is all about my complaint and life is all about my trouble but as david is there anointed in the cave he begins to hear the voice of his father and the voice of his mother and the voice of his brothers and they gather themselves unto david now you can kind of understand why they came now whether they came maybe for two reasons maybe they came because they felt sorry for david that's a possible reason or maybe they came because in that day when a king felt threatened he not only killed the one that was threatening him he killed all their family so maybe maybe they all said we we got to find david we where's david at we we've got to find we gotta we gotta hide out with david and now not only am i here in this cave not only am i complaining not only am i here in this cave trouble but now i've got my mom and my dad and i got my brothers here in the cave they're they're with me and so do you see how maybe he began to shift from just thinking all about himself to start thinking about others not only that but some more voices come 400 in total these fall under the category they're distressed they're distressed they are frazzled they are men for whatever reason whatever circumstances they are frazzled they are distressed the other men fall under the debt category they are they are in debt they have tried several adventures in life and all of their adventures have failed they have tried to make it financially they have tried this and tried that and their life is marked with one huge failure and then there were those that were just discontent they never had found their purpose in life they didn't know why they were here they were just going through life humdrum simply existing they didn't know why they were here they had no purpose in their life and about 400 distressed deaded men and discontented gathered around david can you hear him now i was waiting for a savior to come i was waiting for some soldiers to come help me great god look what you sent me now a bunch of stressed out indebted aimless men that have no direction at all but the bible says that david turned his attention from himself oh god help us to get delivered from ourselves and start looking for somebody to help when you find yourself between a rock and a hard place would you please look around and see if you can find somebody to help so david went from poor pitiful me david went from poor pitiful david they're lying on me they're doing all these he went from all these and saying you know there's a god that'll help you there's a god that can there's a god that can help you and you you do have meaning in this life and david went from you know what 400 men i i i guess i need to start showing you guys how to fight and you know what that cave became that cave turned into a boot camp it turned into a training camp it turned into david taught these indebted stressed out discontented aimless men he taught them how to fight he taught them how to be soldiers he told them how to have purpose we're fighting the lord's battles i'm i don't know why i came to this cave david i'll tell you why you came here because i've got an anointing on me i know i don't look like much but god poured his anointing out upon me and we need to put an army together and we need we need to fight we need to fight we need to fight we need to have this we need to have this army we need to fight and do you know the bible the bible tells us in first chronicles 12 and verse number eight and the bible tells us in second samuel 23 and verse number 8 that these be the mighty men of david these be men of valor these be the men of david are we talking about 400 different men no no no no we're talking about those same men that were in debt those same men that were discontented those same men that were in distress we're talking about those same ragtag men that found their way to the cave of adulum what happened i'll tell you what happened david with the anointing of god turned his attention off of himself and got it on somebody else to help and he turned around and created a miracle a miracle army out of these men church family tonight we are anointed of the lord the lord has placed his anointing upon first apostolic church there is an anointing of almighty god that rests upon this church family and god because of the anointing we have been able through god and to the glory of god to do exploits because god's anointing is upon us we've been able to do what others said just absolutely could not be done oh right now right now into the glory of god i tell this to the glory of god i tell this i don't know how many times people have stopped me at a conference or called me on the phone and say what happened in that offering did you plan that offering was there something on the internet we couldn't see because it just looked like that a missionary came by and it just looked like he presented his need and it appeared to be that the people knew nothing about it and then all of a sudden people are popping up like popcorn i'll give i'll give i'll give i'll give i'll give i'll give and a hundred and ninety thousand dollars was raised to get a missionary a home i said absolutely there was no pre-planning there was nobody going around saying we're taking an offering up we have got the anointing of god upon us and because the anointing brother cody mayo pastors of name well louisiana and he told me he said i was watching that service and he said it messed me up we're an hour behind and he said i i was watching it just long enough until i had to go out and leave the pre-service prayer at my serp my church and i walked out and i was crying and my wife asked me she said what's wrong with you he said i'm all messed up right now he said we'll talk about it later now i tell that to the glory of god that's not the genius of a man that's not the that's not that we the people are just so super rich no we gave out a sacrificial given but not even that there was a god that said i've got a group of people that are anointed and i can just come come down it don't matter if they're in a cave or in a palace it don't matter they can look back they can look back could you give him praise right now we are anointed come on give him praise first apostolic church of maryville is anointed it is an anointed vessel of god it is an anointed vessel of god but just because we're an anointed vessel of god doesn't mean that we're not going to go to the cave of a doolam david could look from the from the mouth of the cave of adulum david could look back at the valley where he killed goliath we're going to find ourselves periodically in the cave of a doom we are going to find ourselves periodically between a rock and a hard place and what determines whether we come out of that cave or not is whether we look around to see if we can help somebody because that's the whole purpose of the church is to help others once you've been saved it now becomes your purpose to help others it's not our purpose to sit on a pew like sonic and order a blessing and tell god we want double blessings and and double bonuses and we want prosperity and we want to supersize this and exercise this and we'll sit here on our pew and wait for god to come roller skating down the aisle and give us what no that's not what god has called us to do he's called us to help people he we got to look around my god i'm as troubled as i can be i got more troubles than you can imagine i'm complaining but but is that somebody i can go pray for is that somebody i could can i slip over here can i slip over here and pray for you can i get over here can i run back there and shake your hand can i get back there can i get back there can i can i come back there and shake your hand can i come back there i got more troubles than you can imagine but can i encourage you in the lord and tell you that god is on your side and keep preaching the truth hallelujah to god just keep on preaching the truth i ain't going to suck my thumb i ain't going to get in the cave and get up my god i'm going to find me somebody to help come on give him praise maybe see i hope this message makes sense tonight i'm gonna find me somebody to help i'm gonna find me some i'm gonna stop waiting when somebody come talk to me i'm gonna go talk to them ain't talking about i ain't talking about sinners i'm talking about church people i ain't gonna ain't gonna puff up like like nobody just nobody i've been i've been in trouble ain't nobody come talk to me get your thumb out of your mouth get out of your cave and start think make a cake for somebody else write a thank you card for somebody else look around and find somebody i promise you i promise you there's somebody in this church that's got way more trials and temptations and deals going on in their life than you have ever thought about having but they're still serving god find somebody to help when between a rock and a hard place somebody to hell you may be seated oh you are okay jesus christ what was one of the titles of jesus christ what was one of the titles jesus christ the son of jesus christ the son of david so wouldn't the man christ jesus do what david did jesus christ the son of david god places himself in the cave of humanity david was in the cave of adullam looking out over the valley where he killed goliath god places himself in the cave of human flesh the eternal god limits himself now to time he had lived in eternity but he enters a bubble of time he was a spirit and i'm the present spirit but now the fullness of him dwells in the cave of humanity what is this cave what did he look like when he came isaiah 53 gives us just a little bit of a picture of him isaiah 53 verse number 1 who hath believed our report and to whom is the arm of the lord revealed for he shall grow up before him as a tender plant as a root out of dry ground he hath no form nor comeliness and when we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him can i tell you that david was anointed israel's king but you don't look much like a king when you hunkered down in a cave but just because his surroundings spoke of weakness didn't mean he was weak stop judging yourselves by your surroundings if you've got the baptism of the holy ghost and if you don't have it you can get it tonight but if you got the baptism of the holy ghost there's an anointing in you i don't care about the surroundings because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world i know you're in a cave i know you've got trouble but there's an anointing on you friday night in darden pastor parish had been witnessing a bunch of weight lifters at the gym i want you to know them guys come in that church friday night and they walked around like their armpits were sunburned i mean they were just i mean they walked around like this i went one of them come to the office and i went up pray for him and put him right in the chest and i mean like i hit a book good i mean there wasn't no give kind of like jesus christ didn't come that way he didn't come looking like a king he didn't come looking like a looking like a hero he didn't come looking like a god in flesh he come like a little tender plant a little plant that if you don't watch it somebody will step on it and break he came wondering he's a root out of dry ground just like how'd that grow right there that's that's crack dry ground as a matter of fact there was no form nor comeliness and verse two when we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him that meant what we call beauty there was none that jesus had he is despised white way and rejected of men a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief we hid as it was our faces from him he was despised and we esteemed him not surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him stricken and smitten of god and afflicted but he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed and let me pause here for a praise we brought brother nichols down wednesday night and prayed about a sore on his leg because he's a diabetic he texts me the next day and said brother carpenter this sore on my leg is clearing up and i give god praise and i give god wait a minute don't you dare put anything right here it's not us it's the anointing of the holy ghost it's that divine anointing of the holy ghost the spy is rejected wounded for our transgressions bruised for our iniquities chastisement of our peace was upon him with the stripes we were here all we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the lord had laid on him the iniquity of us all god robes himself in the cave of flesh and takes on the ugliness of sin takes on the ugliness you don't look like a king you and your father are one if you've seen me you're seeing the father crucify him crucify the fool crucify him god crucified him let's see if he let's let's let's laugh at him let's jerry can i tell you something he's anointed he is god in flesh and you can do whatever you want to do to him you can crucify him and they did but i got news for you because he is god and he is anointed there's no rock gonna keep him down and there's no death going to keep him down it was not possible that death should be holden by him he stripped the keys of death hell and the grave satan had the most lethal atomic nuclear bomb in humanity was death every man since adam had sure come to death and satan had them in his grasp but this one god who took on the tomb of flesh defied that and rose victorious on the third day and because he has the victory i have the victory because he overcome oh you ought to shout tonight because he overcame there ain't no grave going to hold my body down if you walk out of that grave i'm a walk-in too if you walked out of that grave i'm walking too how is somebody just praise him i wish somebody just praised him to the top of their voice oh thank you jesus come on do it praise god praise god wonderful jesus oh wonderful jesus wonderful jesus all hell the power of jesus name glory majesty power and glory if you walked out of that grave i'm a walking too oh hallelujah if your foot's on the devil mine is two went between a rock and a hard place find somebody to help matthew 26 56 matthew 26 56 they've arrested jesus they've taken him to trial never seen him like this before 56 says but all this was done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled then all the disciples forsook him and fled can i tell you something church family when your jesus doesn't treat you like you think you need to be treated don't leave him when your jesus doesn't treat you like you feel you need to be treated for god's sake don't leave him he's got another act to perform and the next act that he performs is going to completely cement your faith in him you've seen him as a miracle worker you've had faith you've seen him walk on water and you've had faith but you saw him arrested in the grief of in the grip of humanity and when you saw him in the grip of humanity you lost all faith in him and left him some of us leave our god when we see what man has done man is not greater than god please do not judge one scene of your life and think man man is all in control man is not all in control god is in control just wait around long enough to the next scene the next scene he's coming out of the grave victorious over death hell and the grave the victory's going to come and you're going to have more faith in him than you've ever had before come on church stay in here don't leave him stay in here don't leave him i know you're in the cave i know that it's been rough i know you've been disappointed but stay in the cave and find somebody to hell they all left him they all left him but three days later he comes out of the tomb fifty-something days later he fills them with the holy ghost and the same men who forsook him and fled will now not stand in a garden but they will stand in the town square of jerusalem with the multitude being around them and acts 2 14 will take place but peter standing up with the eleven lifted up his voice and said unto them you men of judea and all you that dwell at jerusalem be this known unto you and hearken to my words what's the difference between a bunch of cowards running for their lives and a bunch of brave men standing up and saying would you listen to me i'll tell you what the difference is the anointing of the holy ghost they have just recently been filled with the holy ghost they've just recently talked into the tongues and had the power of god i i prayed with a young man this morning in church i prayed with a young boy this morning that came to the altar his con his complexion his demeanor was all downtrodden he had no smile on his face he he had no joy in his eyes but he had enough to know that there was something that drawed him to the altar brother perry and we went over and began to lay hands on this young man and a few minutes later he began to speak in other tongues and when he began to speak in other tongues a beautiful smile filled his face i told him i said i like that smile son and he said i feel this i feel this can i tell you what you need today don't leave him in the cave get the baptism of the holy ghost get it stirred back up in your life and you'll have the energy to go again because he lives i can face tomorrow because he lives all fear is gone because i know i know who holds my future when in the rock between a rock and a hard place find somebody to help the church now becomes the body of christ we are the body of christ we are to be on the lookout for those to help thank god we are not of a people that you've got to look like us and talk like us for us to allow you to come in here you don't hear the language around here what are they doing here what's that kind doing here you know why you don't hear that is because we realize today that when we're in the cave of adulum what god sends us is who we're supposed to help and god doesn't send us everybody put together god doesn't send us perfect people there's no such thing he brings us broken people he brings us shattered lives he brings us all kinds of addiction and all kinds of broken people but welcome to the apostolic church we're going to make a mighty warrior out of you we're going to make something out of you because when we're in a rock and a hard place we find somebody to help stand with me tonight stand with me tonight musicians come stand with me tonight wait a minute i hope i didn't have you stand too soon would you care to stand acts chapter 2 and verse number 47. please look at this closely on the screen i did have you saying just a couple of scriptures too soon but that's all right don't you want to help somebody tonight i said don't you want to help somebody tonight don't you want to help somebody tonight don't you want to hit those acts 2 47 the end of the end of this verse chapter praising god talk about the church praising god having favor with all the people and the lord added to the church daily such as should be saved especially well i believe people will be getting saved every day well that's a good thought but that's not in the bible it's a good thought but it's not in the bible it's a possibility but it's not in the bible but it is in the bible that he would add to the church daily such such such as should be saved we're supposed to recognize such what does such look like what does such look like well i think i got an example in john chapter 8 and verse 5. a woman has been taken to the act of adultery she's been dragged to the temple thrust upon the floor and this is what they said about her jesus moses in the law commanded us that what's her name oh she ain't got a name she is such who's her parent she don't have a no no no she's just such she's just such such should be stoned but what sayeth thou i tell you what he said he said i want to add to the church daily such you do realize before they're saints they're such you do realize before you were a saint you were such and the only way you got to be a saint was your such got in the church and you found your way into this place broken you found yourself into this place at your lowest moment you found yourself into this place trying to commit suicide you found yourself into this place an alcoholic a drug addict a a pervert you found yourself into this church but you got here and the church said we're just not interested in shouting about heaven we're not just interested about our getting our blessing and prosperity did you see a such back there did you see a such come to the altar i want your help as such such who is that that's a runaway slave little little thief a little lowlife somebody get that philemon in here put him in jail put him back there with that apostolic preacher so paul and when paul gets a hold of that little that little philemon when when he gets when he gets a hold of that little onesimus this runaway slave when he gets a hold of it when he gets a hold of him he's going to talk to him and say listen here run away listen here listen here person that's done wrong you need to accept jesus christ as a savior and lord of your life you need to repent of all your lying all your all your nasty needs and you need to be water and i see tears streaming down his face you need to be water baptized in jesus name and fill with her let me go ahead and do it i now baptize you in jesus name all your sins are remembered go ahead and receive the gift of the holy ghost that's it that's it that's it does it yeah yeah yeah let's get you in a discipleship class and a little later i'm going to send you back to your master and i'm going to say this is what the church can do would we please allow those partially informed believers to be among us what are you talking about i'm talking about good moral people that have not heard whether there be any holy ghost or not i'm talking about good moral people but they're their information's partial they've not heard whether there be any holy ghost or not stand right there with them there are two former pentecostal trinitarian ministers tonight that are in an apostolic church in mississippi right now as i speak because they called my house they called one certain group they called one certain group and they they asked them about their experience they said do you consider us are we saved absolutely not you're not saved you died today you'd go to hell you've got to obey acts 2 38. now don't don't nobody leave don't nobody leave all right don't nobody leave but i'm here to tell you that's the wrong way to talk to them brothers that have partial belief they're not wicked people they're not wicked people they're just walking in all the truth they know walk in their great grandpas and grandpas and moms and dads didn't go to an apostolic church and so you know how i started dealing with them i started saying well some of what you got's good but let me add to it a little bit you you start to operate believe that upon the lord the blood the blood the blood and i started there and boy that brother inman mama knows it he'd call my house he'd call my house he told me he said he said i need to start seeing you ty i said my wife my wife watches all the the the webcast said she just said she said bro kermit i think you're her pastor he'd call the house and we'd talk and i told my wife i said if i get around
