Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Finishing the message: Israel's prayer
- The pastor asks for Isaiah chapter 63 and verse 17 and says he wants to finish the teacher's message.
- He reads Israel's prayer verse by verse: O Lord, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake.
- The people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while; our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.
- They were not called by my name, he stresses — and he is glad God looks out over this church.
Scriptures: Isaiah 63:17-19
Man-made religion, and the answer of Acts 19
- He names the prince of this city: man-made religion, false religion, incomplete religion, a twisted gospel — and comes against it in the name of Jesus.
- He tells of sitting down at Cracker Barrel with a pastor of a very large church in this city, who argued that baptism in Jesus' name on the day of Pentecost was a punishment, a shameful stigma God made them wear.
- Asked what he would say about Acts chapter 10, when Cornelius got it, the man answered that nobody was baptized in Jesus' name after Acts 10.
- The pastor took the man's own Bible, turned it to Acts 19, and read of John's disciples baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, on whom the Holy Ghost then came.
- The man put his glasses on and said that since Bible seminary he had read the Bible through once a year for some twenty years, and had never seen that.
Scriptures: Acts 19:1-6
Reach out and pray
- Do what the teacher has said: get a hold of somebody on your job, and when people tell you their troubles, do not just let them tell you — ask to pray with them right there.
- When God starts answering those prayers, they will start coming to church with you, getting the Holy Ghost, and their lives will start being changed.
- The capture ends during the baptism formula that follows his closing prayer over the one being baptized; his teaching unit itself closes complete at that prayer's amen.

I don't care how far our children go from God. We ought to step out and say, "Devil, I send an angel to them right now." That angel might have to stand beside a bar stool. That angel may have to be in a drug house, but God keep them keep them from dying lost. God, keep them from dying lost. You You know, you you just hear all kinds of things. I took his Bible, turned it around, flipped over to Acts 19. Paul having passed through the upper coast of Ephesus came and found certain John's disciples >> and said unto them, "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believe?" >> They said, "We have not even heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." He said, "Well, how were you baptized?" They said, "Unto John." He said, "Well, that's the reason John barely baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him." When they heard this, >> they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus >> and he laid his hands on them and the Holy Ghost came on them. Brother Nolan, Brother Nolan, so help me, my righteous God.
