Celebrating Memorial Day

if you have your bibles today and i want you to stand with me right now i'm i know the spirit of the lord got on me and i i ministered uh there in prayer but for a few moments today i'd like to minister something that's very close to my heart acts chapter 10 and verse number acts chapter 10 and verse number one again i want to say on behalf of my sister and myself uh thank you of the wonderful outpouring of texts cards calls uh flowers uh that have been abundantly poured out upon us uh during the loss of our mother that was a week ago a week ago today i can't say enough don't have enough arms to wrap around you don't have enough vocabulary to adequately explain to you how much that that means to me but thank you thank you so very very much acts chapter 10 and verse number one there was a certain man in caesarea called cornelius a centurion of the band called the italian man a devout man and one that feared god with all of his house which gave much alms to the people and prayed to god alway he saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of god coming into him and saying unto him and cornelius in this next verse verse four is i want you just to look at every word with me and when he looked on him he was afraid and said what is it lord and he said unto him follow very closely thy prayers and thy noms are come up for a memorial before god for just a brief few moments today i want to minister on celebrating memorial day celebrating memorial day father i love you god i ask you today to help us to celebrate memorial day in our lives help us god to make memorial days lord take my mind today take my heart direct me souls are here that need to be given to you lord i pray today that you would touch in jesus name i do honor you in jesus name you may be seated to us and in scripture a memorial is a day or a set time or a physical object that serves to be a reminder of past events i want to say that again to us and in scriptures a memorial day is a day or a set time or a physical object that serves to be a reminder that's why it's there it serves to be a reminder of past events our nation's capital washington dc is also called the city of monuments the city of monuments monuments all through the city they these monuments are there whether it's remembering those that died in a war or remembering a past president or remembering a past celebration it's called the city of monuments but today i have come to minister about a man in the bible whose name is cornelius i think it's very needful to introduce you to this man today cornelius falls within the category of what the jews called god fearers now the reason that cornelius fell in the category of god fears or one who fears god was that cornelius was a gentile he was not a jew he was born a gentile he had no certain rights he had no rights as the jews had but yet somewhere in cornelius's life he began to fear the god of the jews he begins somewhere in his life to read about him he began somewhere in his life to be connected he read about the god of the jews he watched the worship of the god of the jews although he was not allowed to participate in the worship he still watched and admired in so much that he desired to become something that it was impossible brother hammond for him ever to become he desired to be a jew he desired something that was impossible him to ever become but that didn't stop him from believing in the god of the jews that that did not stop him from worshiping this gentile this gentile named cornelius we would not have ever heard of him had it not been that he wanted to be someone that he never could be impossible to be a jew but nonetheless the bible tells us that he was a devout man he was a godly man verse two he was a godly man somebody he never could be but yet he became a devout man now i am surmising today but i don't think i'm really having to stretch this at all i think he became a devout man by associating himself will with devout jews i believe that he learned i believe that he picked up how one should act by fellowshipping having friends with others called jews that he could never become like the bible says he was a devout man that means he was a godly man he believed in god and then it says one that feared god with all of his heart he feared god not only with all of his heart but his fear of god became contagious it didn't take long for kenius to fear god until mrs cornelius began to fear god and it didn't take long for mr and mrs cornelius fearing god to all of their children because the bible says the bible says that he feared god with all of his heart or all of his life but that fear was more than just what brother hammond said today knowing god or believing god it was a fear that led him to begin to give alms you see a fear for god that doesn't lead you to a compassion of humanity is no fear at all if your fear of god does not produce a love for one another it is no fear at all but this man cornelius his fear caused him to have a compassionate heart toward man and so he began to give what's called alms he began to feel a tug of compassion upon him when he saw the bigger he began to see a tug of compassion upon him when he had he witnessed the widow he began to give alms he was touched with this this fear that produced a compassion a compassion for humanity but that compassion for humanity didn't stop there it also led him to be a man of prayer isn't it amazing here today how we see a wonderful circle that we would do good to follow he started off fearing god which led him to having compassion on humanity which led him right back to being a man of praying to god fearing god and praying to god are two separate things he feared god but yet he also prayed to that god as a matter of fact the bible would tell us it's a wonderful thing today i hope it's an encouraging thing today because one of the things we battle in maintaining our fear our love for humanity and our prayers is that it's not making a difference one thing we battle in establishing a prayer life does god really hear me well in cornelius's situation the bible says that the prayers fell in the category of a memorial it fell into a category the bible says that as cornelius was praying one day that an angel appeared to him he was startled and he says to the angel he says to the angel what is it lord and the angel wants to introduce him and say i'm here because your prayers and your arms have come up for a memorial in heaven there is something in heaven that you have done on earth that god sees it as a reminder to him now i know that we have a hard time seeing a god that would have to be reminded but yet a memorial is something that when god looks at he's reminded of something that you have done i today want to be someone that leaves god a lot of reminders in heaven i want today to make a pledge i want today to make a public confession i want to put a lot of things over in heaven that reminds god that i'm down here on this earth can you say amen your prayers and your arms have come up for a memorial before god now please understand with me and i want to go back just briefly to the two passages of scriptures that i read today before we had our video of dr martin luther king and that i want to embrace god's standard god's standard of love god's standard of love is that every man and woman are made in the image and the likeness of god to know god is to love all humanity to know god is to love a world for god so loved the world to love got to know god is to love more than before in your family to love god to know god and to love god is to love all of humanity regardless if they're in your family church city state nation god wants you to love we understand that paul also addressed this when he told them that god had made of one blood one atom one blood all nations upon the earth i want you to understand today that when we enter into the house of god to give god worship as a corporate body that we need to know that upon leaving here today we will leave a memorial one way or another we will either leave a memorial that paul even addressed when paul walked through morris hill and he saw many statues to many false gods but then he just saw an empty platform that said to the unknown god could it be today that as we leave here we either leave god a monument of praise and heartfelt worship or we leave god a blank slate that we left god nothing to remember us by today may my hallelujah be a memorial to god may my thank you jesus be a memorial to god may the discipline of my mind to make sure that i focus on jesus for the entire service may it today after this service is long said and done may it live eternally as a reminder that i was in the house of the lord on this day i was in the house of the lord this is nothing new in the bible in leviticus chapter 2 verse number 14. it's nothing new they had it in the old testament in the old testament leviticus chapter 2 verse 14 the old testament worshipers came and it simply says this and if thou offer a meal a meat offering which was a meal offering of the first fruits unto the lord now this is a bloodless sacrifice this sacrifice has no blood in it it is a gratitude sacrifice it is a thankful sacrifice it is a sacrifice that spoke of appreciation it's a sacrifice that the worshipper said to god only you can put your blood in it but after you put your blood in it i bring you a meal offering i bring you thanksgiving today as a memorial for what you have done and if thou will offer a meat offering of the first fruits unto the lord then shalt thou offer the meat offering of thy first fruits green ears of corn dried by fire even gold a corn beaten out of full ears and thou shalt put oil upon it and lay frankincense thereon it is a meal offering or meat offering but verse 16 is where i want you to look and the priest shall burn the memorial of it part of the beaten corn thereof and part of the oil thereof and all the frankincense thereof it is a it is an offering made by fire unto the lord it's not only an offering made by fire it is a memorial offering it is an offering that we give god as thanksgiving for all the things that he has done for us now church if god doesn't touch you one more time with a goosebump if god doesn't fix your flat tire one more time or restore your refrigerator or stove or somehow heal you of the sniffles or of cancer if god doesn't do one more thing for you or i we are still heavenly indebted for what he did two thousand years ago oh hallelujah to the name of jesus oh thank you lord that you came to this earth and in the form of a man and suffered bled and died on a hill called calvary from my sins the only way i could be saved is through the shed blood of the lord jesus christ thank you for sending the holy ghost if you have the holy ghost this morning let me tell you god doesn't have to put you in a new house a new suit a new job with new wages you ought to be thankful for the fact today that you have the gift of the holy ghost don't know about you but i'm here to tell you every time i come into the house of the lord i'm going to be thankful not for how my week has went but for how my life has gone since i have invited him into my life come on would you give him a memorial offering today will it be recorded that you clapped your hands will it be recorded that you opened your mouth and begin to exhale praise to him right now a memorial offering a memorial offering he feared god he gave alms he prayed to god always and his prayers his fearing and his arms created in a memorial and i'm going to tell you when god remembers you god knows exactly what you need when god remembers you god knows exactly what you need as a matter of fact god knows what you need before you know you need it and god can i get a witness and god knows what you need when you don't even know you need it god may know that you need to be detained a little bit getting out of the driveway and getting out into the street because god may know there's a wreck going to happen down here amen and god don't want you involved in that wreck you hear me god knows what you need before you know that you need it oh i'll never forget it's stamped on my mind i'll never forget this morning i'll never forget the morning i had a bible study planned at the church but nothing was going right for me absolutely nothing was going right for me from from from hot water for a shower to being able to find something to wear and get out of that i mean absolutely nothing was going wrong and then a number of phone calls that i had just had to take but in taking the phone calls made me very late for my bible study of course i had called and made arrangements to meet a little bit earlier but that morning as i made my way out of the driveway drove down to the bottom of the hill about to turn out of my subdivision brother donnie a truck passed me i don't claim to be a i'm not a spiritual guru okay i'm just telling you what happens god uses imperfect people but when that truck passed me the literal hair on the back of my neck stood up i looked and i saw this truck says carpenter you would know exactly how many men were in the truck how many two men and when i looked at them i just dismissed it my wife had told me i remember her telling me that she was going out to jog that morning and i remember telling her please wait for me to get back home uh and i i made a note of just wait but she said oh honey i'll be all right i remember as i was leaving she was putting her shoes on the jog as i passed that truck and i got down to the four-way stop there was something that kept saying brother larry go back go back go back and as i turned around and went back into my neighborhood i watched the truck trying to run my wife over into a field and these men in this truck and one of the men was wildly moving around in the cab of that truck and of course you know what they i you did hear me say they tried to move her in the field i watched that little miriam i watched that esther stand there and go like this to him go on go on and when i pulled up when i pulled up they sped out of the neighborhood and i got their license number and we turned it in only to find out these were two criminals trying to escape the law these were two two men that were bombed out of their heads on drugs i just say this today although she's sister carpenter and she would fight to the last took to the last breath she had i wonder if it was not no i don't wonder i know it was almighty god it was almighty god that says you're going to be late for your bible study today the water's not going to be right your clothes that you laid out it's not going to be right you're going to get some phone calls and all this why because god loves us so much that he knows what we need when we don't even know we have need of it that's why we ought to praise him today that's why we ought to every time we come to the house of god whether or not we've had a good week or a bad week we ought to walk in and say thank you jesus glory to god i magnify your name i give you praise i give you honor why should i praise god i'll tell you why you should praise god if you've got salvation he's been more than good to you that's why you are you ought to give him something to remember this sunday morning come on give him something to remember today cornelius i've come to you because you have need of something that you don't even know you need and it's found in acts chapter 11 and verse number 14. cornelius you need something you don't even know that you need you're a devout man but you're lost you're a compassionate man you give to the united way you give to everything you can because you're touched with hurting people but you're lost you have a prayer life cornelius but you're lost but cornelius you have given god something to remember you by and because of that you're going to have this moment in your life who shall tell thee words whereby thou and all of thine house shall be saved can i tell you today god knows what you need even when you don't know you need it there is i'm i'm believing it i'm claiming it i'm speaking it there's going to be a great harvest of religious people come in the church they're godly people they're compassionate people they're praying people but they've not had the apostles doctrine preached to them but because of what they've left god to remember them by god is going to direct them and connect them to the church of the living god and they're going to hear the same message that cornelius preached or the kinesis heard it's going to happen it's going to happen don't lose faith in it it's going to happen they're giving god something to remember them by there's a story in the first book of kings chapter number 10 verse number one and the story goes as follows and when the queen of sheba heard of the fame of solomon concerning the name of the lord she came to prove him with hard questions she came to jerusalem with a very great train with camels that bear spices and very much gold and precious stones and when she was come to solomon she can she can communed with him of all that was in her heart she heard of this man named solomon she heard of his opulent kingdom she heard of all of his wisdom and she had some things in her life she didn't have the answer to she had some things in her life that kept her up at night she had some things in her life that she wasn't at peace with and so she loaded down camels with all kinds of spices and all kinds of gold and all kinds of stone why why do that because if he answers my questions i'm going to give him something to remember me by if he answers my questions i'm going to unload all these camels and i'll give him something to remember me by let me pause for a moment and tell you that jesus satisfies my every longing in life jesus has answered all of our questions jesus has answered all of our desires and our wants and so because of that i plan to give god a life that he will always remember me by she came to him in verse number 10 first kings 10 and 10. she gave the king 120 talents of gold i think that 120 could be connected with pentecost but let's go she gave the king 120 talents of gold spices very great precious stones there came no much more such abundance of spices as which the queen of sheba gave to king solomon but it doesn't stop there you see when you begin to give king solomon something king solomon also begins to give you something and in verse number 13 it says and king solomon gave unto the queen of sheba all her desire he answered every question whatsoever she asked beside that i wish you'd say those two words with me beside that which solomon gave beside that which solomon gave her of his royal bounty so she turned and went to her own country she and her servants now watch this relationship between sheba a sinner and solomon a savior the sinner brings all to jesus if he can answer my questions i'm giving him these spices i'm giving him something to remember me by but in return solomon after sheba gave solomon those gifts solomon answered all of her questions oh praise god solomon answered all of her desires when you know jesus you have no more desires for anything else you just want more of him you're not looking for another god you just want more of him but not only that after she gave the after he gave her all of the answers to her questions he then gave her of his royal bounty why doesn't it list it why doesn't it list it like it lists hers 120 uh talents of gold spices very much precious stones why doesn't it list it because when you're comparing it to god you cannot put a description on how good god can be to you it just has to fall under the subheading his royal bounty god has been so good to the church why don't you want to serve him today i don't know why anybody would not want to serve god maybe we've just not lifted him up high enough and convinced you of how good he is yes you do have to bring your stubborn will to him yes you do have to bring your decisions that you don't know how to make to him but if you will bring your life to him in repentance if you will submit to that baptism of water and if you'll be filled with the holy ghost you will fall under the subheading of his royal bounty god has been good to us today church oh he saved our souls he's made a way for us when we didn't have a way he's helped us take another step when we couldn't take that other step he's helped us to get up he's helped us to keep on going can i get a witness in the house today he's helped us oh he's helped us he gave her of his royal bounty but wait a minute jesus wants to address it in matthew 12 42. jesus says in matthew 12 42 the queen of the south that sheba shall rise up in judgment with this generation and shall condemn it for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of solomon and behold a greater than solomon is here now this is where i fall off the wagon with people under the law when they say oh you're doing such and such that's under the law can i just ask you something today if we have a greater than the law shouldn't our devotion and dedication be greater than what was under the law i mean we shouldn't be diminishing in how much we give god he's given us his very best him robed in human flesh if he gave us heaven's very best should not we out do any previous dispensation of time shouldn't we be willing to give it all to god god if you tell me to come and worship every day of the week i'm going to come and worship you every day of the week god if you tell me you want abc god i'm going to give you a b c d e f g h i i'm going to give you everything god because a greater come on church a greater hey grace somebody shout greater a greater see what you don't realize today what you don't realize today your mind mute pygmy sacrifice will render you a tremendous abundant harvest but if you just get your mind on what you're given you'll never live long enough to see what you're going to get you've got to have that revelation you can't just look at this your sacrifice says oh look what he god's asking me to do so much you can't look at that you got to look at other generations that's given it all and watched how god blessed them it was a woman brother erickson preached about her a few weeks ago she's found in matthew 26 6. i believe the woman had a special now when jesus was in bethany in the house of simon the leper there came unto him a woman having an alabaster box a very precious ointment she poured it on his head as he set at meat but when his disciples saw it they said they had indignation saying to what purpose is this waste for this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor when jesus understood it he said unto them why trouble ye the woman for she hath brought a good work upon me for the poor you have always with you but me you have not always for in that she had poured this ointment on my body she did it for my burial i believe that woman had a revelation of the death burial and resurrection of jesus christ i believe she had a revelation that he's about to die but he will rise again i believe that she brought something very costly to him because she had a revelation of who he is i think to little to whom much is forgiven loveth little i think to those that see jesus as just a little name tag that you have on your life the church is a good place to get married i want to go to church so i have a good place to have a wedding in or a good place to have a funeral in those are lousy reasons to have a church but some people use god like a little name tag they got a little insurance card back in their bfo they're paying their monthly premiums in case life falls apart they can pull their they can pull their blue cross blue shield out and they've got coverage i do not want to serve my god like a blue cross blue shield insurance all-state card i want to serve my god because i'm going to give him the valuable because he is alive and he will always be alive and we're headed to a place called heaven that's why i'm going to give god everything that i have for she had poured this ointment on my body she did it for my burial wait a minute that's what she did for him right but watch solomon verily i say unto you wheresoever the gospel is preached wait we're talking about a burial and you're talking about good news she's talking about a burial that's what gospel means is good news i might want to remind us gospel means good news not fake news good news so amen what's the brother joel burial good news burial good news worship good news praise god with all your heart good news but you got to see that because there were some in the room that said waste why waste they didn't have the revelation there are some in the room today do you really think you have to do that do you all really think you all have to worship that way do you really think you you need to do that i mean is this really a salvation thing are you really i'm starting to kind of get a little uncomfortable in this nice church because i'm i'm starting to think from a pastor that he thinks i need to be doing this well jethro you're right i do think you need to be doing it shazam you caught on real quick that's right you know why because burial resurrection burial resurrection this is not a waste my hallelujah is not a waste of my life my hallelujah is a seed today that can help me get through the difficulties tomorrow my prayer oh you're not listening to me my praise this morning is gonna put a smile on my face mandy when everything is falling apart don't you judge me don't you judge me because when you don't have a harvest in your bad days i'm gonna reach down deep because a burial today is a resurrection tomorrow i love you all i love oh man i love what i'm feeling right now he said wherever the gospel is preached there shall also this be told that this woman had done this be told for a what what's he gonna be told for do you all realize i just fulfilled scripture two thousand years ago jesus said anywhere the gospels preached somebody's going to bring up this woman you know what really matters it's not the life we live it's the life we've left behind some people don't know the difference between leaving an inheritance and leaving a legacy oh lord i feel the holy ghost right now i said some folks don't know the difference between leaving an inheritance and leaving a legacy behind some folks can leave cds and bundles of real estate to to to kids that don't know how to give god the praise and give god the honor and they squander it away while other men and women didn't have a lot to leave them in the will but they simply leave them a legacy a legacy listen feed a man a fish and he'll eat for a day teach a man how to fish and he'll live for a lifetime give your children an apostolic legacy and when you're long dead and gone they're gonna be walking into this place yay yes hell mama that's why hell fights you dragging them little children to church you know why hell's fighting you you're leaving a legacy you're leaving a legacy that's why hell fights you young parents that's why hell is fighting you moms and dads that's why hell is fighting you i don't want to leave by behind a heritage i want to leave a legacy behind you may be seated now listen to me now i'm going to close it's two women in the in the new testament bible god gave me this this morning and i tell about about hollered out loud when when when when i got this god mentions only two women to remember in the new testament remember this woman and then he got to speaking on end time he got speaking on the end of time and he uttered some few words remember lot's wife i wonder which you're going to be remembered by today leaving a legacy for your children i wonder for years that that woman's children brother dwayne wasn't in church what in the first century apostolic church and somewhere when somebody got it and preached the gospel one of the first century apostolic preachers mentioned that woman and some kid walked up and said hey preach that was my grandma hey that was my great grandmother did i want you to know that was my great grandma that did that and it goes on because she left them a legacy but what about lot's wife because jesus did say remember her well what's there to remember about lot's wife she went back the world had more of a hold on lot's wife than the angels did she went back i'm sorry moms and i'm using mom's dad i'm using i'm talking about parents as a whole they're not going to remember the 200 shoes you bought them they're not going to remember how straight their teeth were what's going to be a noteworthy thing to remember is what you left behind in the house of god i'm here today my sister's here today you got that picture of that chevrolet that nova could you put that on the screen well kip this is a 1972 chevrolet nova it's the same color as the brand new nova the brand new nova that my my mother my father bought it's brand new and shortly thereafter owning that car kenny and jerry carpenter young teenage boys begin to make all the wrong decisions in their life they were filled with rebellion they were filled with with all kinds of misdirections in their life the christian school in knoxville had just opened and my mother knew the only hope for her two sons was that school but they can't afford it they're just minimum wage working people and they really truly can't afford it until somebody ran into the side of this car crushed in the side door and put a a a gaping huge scratch which caused the door to never shut correctly but when mother got the insurance check instead of having the spirit of lot his wife being concerned with her car driving around town without a scratch something that before that time she was so proud of that new car see got her got to remember i'm going to date myself but the carpenters we were considered to have just a little bit more than the others on black oak drive you know why we were the first family on black oak drive to have a window air conditioner remember kathy remember lizzie lyons when they came and delivered that that air conditioner on the front porch lizzie line's an older lady that lived on the corner of first street had to come down and sit on our front porch to find out what what is that it's a window air conditioner and we were also the first family in the neighborhood to have a color television i can remember don kitts i can remember how the the neighbors coming in our house to turn on that colored television i could hear don kitts now day look at there look at there i can remember them gathering around the new car that we got when my mother saw those two boys going in the wrong direction that new car didn't mean anything to her anymore when that insurance check was handed to her to repair her new car she had one of two places she could go with that new check she would take it down to reader chevrolet and give it to them and have a new car fixed and brought back out or she could take that check over to 50 20 pleasant ridge road she would later say all i had was enough money to put you all in that school for one year that's all i had enough to put you in that school for one year little did mama know that midway through that school year her misdirected rebellious boys were going to both be filled with the holy ghost in his name little did she know that just that one investment not now now remove today that this is a a a a a sermon for the christian school but i am here to tell you if i had to sell things off in order to put my children in a christian school i'd sell things off if i had whatever i had to do because i'm going to tell you something i would leather i'd rather live with knowing i put it all out there for you than to turn around in life and live with regret i wished i hadn't done this mama and tonight i think they'll have it ready tonight but i'm going to show you a small clip tonight of my mother's memorial service of which we wish we could invited all of you too but we were unable to do that but i'm going to show you a small clip of her memorial service i don't believe mother ever had any idea when she laid that check down on that office i don't think she had any idea of the harvest that was going to come out of that check i don't think she had any idea of what was going to come out of that and if the enemy has his way he would like to tell you that everything that you put in your memorial day will never bring you back a rich harvest but again the devil is a liar would you stand with me right now musicians would you come would you bow your heads all over this room right now would you pray with me oh god i come before you today oh god i love you i praise you jesus christ you have never been nothing but good to me lord jesus christ i find no fault in you this morning god your ways are all together perfect god man does not know his left hand from his right hand but god you give us wisdom of heart wisdom of spirit oh god i just praise you today jesus christ for all that you've done thank you lord for the abundant amount of mercy that you've had on my life god even since i gave you my life lord i've not been a perfect man god i thank you for your loving fatherly touch that you give to me lord for you're known as the everlasting father you're known your god today is the great shepherd lord you're known lord of these things god i just love you this morning would you just love the lord jesus with me before we go home come on would you just love him right now just tell him in your own way in your own way right now god i love you this morning god i love you this morning god i love you this morning lord i do god oh i love you this morning god i love you this morning lord is there anyone under the sound of my voice that would like to walk out of your pew today and come down to this altar to give god your life is there any queen of shebas today that want to come and your life is so filled with hard questions and you just want to bring your life down to the altar today you want to surrender your life to god today would you come right now this altar is open for you right now if you come right now god sees you god sees you god knows your pain would you just come right now sheba would you just come right now would you just come oh i love you today god i love you if there's anyone here today and you have not yet been baptized in the water in jesus name you want to be baptized according to scripture today would you come right now would you come right now would you come right now i love you god i worship you god i worship you god i worship you god i love you god now i want you to listen to me for just a moment we'll go home this way prayer room tonight at 5 30 service at six o'clock brother erickson is going to be casting vision tonight for and this altar was packed and my heart just said oh god lord help us to get back to that lord oh god help us to get back the enemy would like to separate us and all of it god help us to get back and and i know we have to social distance and i'm if i pray for anybody i put my mask on i understand that but i wonder how god would record today if we would put our mask on and maybe come down around maybe maybe come down around maybe step out in the pew maybe get up around the walls and just move from where you're at maybe is what i'm saying this is just move from where you're at could we leave god and incense in here today the way you respond right now you're leaving god you're leaving god you're leaving god a memorial right now thank you lord come on we'll be dismissed by the altar today
