Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Baptizing them in the name
- He invites attention to Matthew chapter 28 and reads from verse 18: all power is given unto Jesus in heaven and in earth; go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things he has commanded, and lo, he is with them always, even unto the end of the world.
- Jesus was not saying to repeat these words when baptizing — nowhere in the Bible was anyone baptized repeating the words Father, Son and Holy Ghost; he was commissioning the apostles to baptize believers in the name, and the name is singular.
- It does not say the name of the Father and the name of the Son and the name of the Holy Ghost, because Father, Son and Holy Ghost are not names but descriptive titles of one God: the Father of creation, the Son of redemption, and the Holy Spirit in the church today.
- A man can be a father, a husband and a pastor and all of those are descriptive titles; his name is Kenneth Ray Carpenter — one name covers all three descriptions, and one name covers all three manifestations of the one God.
- Asking brother Taylor to bring the water that is beside his chair is not obeyed by brother Taylor repeating the request back; he obeys when he gets up and brings the water — and so the apostles, baptizing in the name of Jesus Christ, were not disobeying Jesus but understanding and obeying him.
Scriptures: Matthew 28:18-20; Matthew 28:19
The name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
- What is the name of the Father? In John chapter 17 Jesus prays, glorify me with the glory which I had with thee before the world was, and says, I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me — the name he made known is the name of Jesus.
- John 5:43: I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
- Hebrews chapter 1 and verse 4: Jesus, being made so much better than the angels, has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they — he got his name by inheritance from the Father, as a son inherits his father's last name.
- What is the name of the Son? Matthew 1 and 21: she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.
- What is the name of the Holy Ghost? John 14 and 26: the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name — and that name is Jesus; so the name of the Father the Creator is Jesus, the name of the Son is Jesus, and the Holy Ghost came in the name of Jesus.
Scriptures: John 17:5-6; John 5:43; Hebrews 1:4; Matthew 1:21; John 14:26
A name above every name
- Colossians chapter 3 and verse 17: whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
- Philippians chapter 2, read from verse 5: let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation, took the form of a servant, and humbled himself unto death, even the death of the cross.
- Wherefore God has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
- The treasure of the Oneness of God is the power of that name — a name that causes demons to tremble and shakes heaven and hell.
- Acts 4 and 12: neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
Scriptures: Colossians 3:17; Philippians 2:5-11; Acts 4:12
What shall we do?
- The apostles went back to Jerusalem and waited with the hundred and twenty for the promise of the Father; when the Holy Ghost came and the crowd gathered, Peter in Acts chapter 2 opened the doors of the New Testament church and proclaimed that the Jesus the crowd had crucified fifty days before, at Passover, God has made both Lord and Christ.
- Acts chapter 2 and verse 37: when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
- Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- The treasure of the one God leads to the treasure of the true biblical purpose of water baptism: a person is not baptized to show their faith, to join a local assembly, or because Jesus was baptized, but because they believe he is a Savior, believe they are a sinner, repent of their sins, and are baptized in the only name that has salvation, so that every sin is washed away.
Scriptures: Acts 2:37-38
Baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus
- Acts chapter 8, verse 14: when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John, who prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost, for as yet he was fallen upon none of them — only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
- In Acts chapter 10, while Peter yet spoke, the Holy Ghost fell on the Gentiles who heard the word; Peter answered, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? — and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
- Acts chapter 19: Paul at Ephesus found certain disciples and asked, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? They had not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost, and to his question — Unto what then were ye baptized? — they answered, Unto John's baptism.
- Paul answered that John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe on him who should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus; John's baptism was valid only till Calvary and the day of Pentecost, and after Pentecost a new baptism stood, in the name of Jesus Christ, which will not expire until Jesus comes again for his church.
- When they heard this, they were baptized — re-baptized — in the name of the Lord Jesus, and when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them and they spoke with tongues and prophesied, about twelve men in all.
- There is no baptismal service in the Word where anyone was baptized to join a church, to walk in the steps of Jesus, or with the words Father, Son and Holy Ghost spoken over them; people bless their food and pray for the sick in Jesus' name without a problem, and the most important thing should be done the Bible way too — in the name of Jesus.
Scriptures: Acts 8:14-16; Acts 10:44-48; Acts 19:1-6
Baptism doth also now save us
- Never believe the fallacy that baptism does not play a role in salvation: 1 Peter 3 and 18 — Christ also has suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit.
- By the Spirit he went and preached unto the spirits in prison, who were disobedient when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah while the ark was preparing, wherein few — that is, eight souls — were saved by water.
- The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us — not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God — by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- He closes with the appeal: if there is anyone in this building who needs to be baptized in Jesus' name.

just for a few moments I want to invite your attention to the Book of Matthew chapter 28 and verse number 28 we continue along in the message that we began last week on the apostolic connection the Oneness of God Matthew chapter 28 and verse number 18 and Jesus came and spake unto them saying all power is given unto me in heaven and in Earth go ye therefore and teach All Nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and lo I Am With You Always even under the end of the world amen amen and you may be seated this morning we know that the scripture teaches that there is one God and that this one God manifested himself made himself known as the father of all creation scripture teaches that this one God manifested himself in the flesh and became the son of redemption scripture teaches that this one God who is Holy and this one God who is a spirit is the Holy Spirit the omnipresent Spirit of the Eternal God Jesus Christ his last words on this Earth he gathered unto him 11 apostles 11 because at this time Judas was dead he had hanged himself and Jesus Took the 11 Apostles and he gave them the Great Commission he told them in Matthew 28:19 that they were to go into all the world and that they were to baptize the word baptize means to immerse they were to immerse in water in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost Jesus was not saying repeat these words he was not saying that these are the words that you are to repeat when you baptize as a matter of fact if you will read closely and I challenge everyone when reading the Bible to Simply ask yourself a few questions who is speaking who is being spoken to and what is the subject that we are talking about there is no one being baptized here Jesus is commissioning his Apostles to go into all the world and to preach and to baptize Believers in the name and you will notice that that name is singular name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost notice what it does not say it does not say baptize them in in the name of the father and the name of the son and the name of the Holy Ghost the reason that it doesn't is because Father Son and Holy Ghost are not names they are descriptive titles of one God he is the father of creation he is the son of redemption and he is the holy spirit in the church today I am a father I am a husband I am the proud pastor of this church but all I have told you right now is descriptive titles of who I am but my name is Kenneth Ray Carpenter that would be my name so when we say baptize them in the name of the father that is singular and of the son and of the Holy Ghost one name covers all three descriptions and manifestations of one God again I want you to notice with me that Jesus was not saying repeat these words we know that Jesus was not saying repeat these words for no one in the word of God was ever baptized repeating the words Father Son and Holy Ghost nowhere in the Bible is it ever recorded So he wasn't saying repeat these words words he was saying they were to baptize in the name singular of the Father Son and Holy Ghost I could use for an example today I could say brother Taylor would you bring me my water that is beside my chair I am asking brother Taylor to do an act if brother Taylor was to say to me uh brother Taylor would you bring me my water that is beside my chair has brother Taylor done what I have asked him to do no he's only repeated what I asked him to do brother Taylor would not obey he could not would not have obeyed my commandment until and brother Taylor would you would you get up and would you get my water that is on the far right opposite of brother Ericson's water and would you put my water on my the pull pit here now has brother Taylor did what I asked him to do yes so when the apostles went forth in the Great Book of Acts and they baptized using the name of Jesus Christ they were not being disobedient to the words of Jesus Christ they were simply understanding and obeying the words of of the Lord Jesus Christ now let's find out what the name of the father is John chapter 17 in verse number five Jesus prays that great prayer in SE the 17th chapter and Jesus says and now oh Father glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world thine they were and thou gavest them me and they have kept Thy word Jesus says father I have made known your name father is not a name what name did he make known to the sons of men he made known the name of Jesus which according to Jesus is the manifested name of the father Jesus said in John 5 and 43 and I please want those in the audience and those in the viewing audience to please keep in mind today that as we make each point that we are making each point based on scripture there's too many men today saying I believe this is what the Bible says I this is what I believe well who cares what any denomination believes or teaches that won't save you it is only the word of God that will save you please keep note that we are in the word of God Jesus John 17 and six Jesus is the manifested name of the Father John 5 and 43 Jesus spoke and he said I am come in my father's name and you receive me not if another shall come in his own name him ye shall receive so now Jesus plainly says I have manifested your name and I came in your name Hebrews chapter 1 and verse number four simply States about Jesus being made so much better than the angels as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent Name than they where did Jesus get his name from he got his name by inheritance his name is the name of the father now again you must note that Father Son and Holy Ghost are not three separate beings but they are three separate manifestations of one being and that being being God and so Jesus says I have obtained My Name by inheritance how did I get the last name Carpenter I got my last name Carpenter from my father I inherited the last name John Virgil Carpenter my father gave me the last name Carpenter I received that name by inheritance the man Christ Jesus received that name from inheritance how do what how do we find out the name of the son Matthew 1 and 21 and she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins what is the name of the Holy Ghost John 14 and 26 says but when the comforter which is the Holy Ghost whom the father will send in my name and that name is Jesus he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you so we know today that the name of the Father the Creator is Jesus we know that the name of the son is Jesus and we know that the Holy Ghost came in the name of Jesus just as I a father husband and Pastor I have one name and that name is Kenny Carpenter and just as God is the father of creation the son of redemption and the the holy ghost in the church today his name isn't father his name isn't son and his name isn't Holy Ghost his name is Jesus Colossians chapter 3 and verse number 17 Paul wrote to the book Paul wrote to the church at colossia and Paul said these words and whatsoever ye do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to the father giving thanks to God and the father by him whatever you do in word or In Deed do all in the name of Jesus Philippians chapter 2 and verse number five let this mind be in you with which was also in Christ Jesus who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God but made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men and being found in fashion as a man he humbled himself and became obedient unto death even the death of the Cross wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name somebody say a name and given him a name which is above every name what is that name that would be above every name what is that name that's above above every name that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in Earth and things under the Earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus is the Lord to the glory of God the Father can I tell you something today about the treasure chest of the Oneness of God the Oneness of God brings us to the power of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ it tells us that God highly exalted him and given him a name that is above every name I'm talking about a name that causes demons to tremble I'm talking about a name that shakes Heaven itself and it shakes hell beneath I'm talking about the name of Jesus Christ if if you have not been convinced as of yet acts 4 and12 says neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved there's only one name that has salvation there's only one name that's been given among men no wonder when Peter and the other Apostles left Jesus and Jesus ascended back into heaven and they went obediently back to jerus Jerusalem to wait for the promise of the Father which was the baptism of the Holy Ghost no wonder when they were told in the book of St Luke that they were not to leave Jerusalem that in Jerusalem there would first be preached repentance and remission of sins in his name would begin at Jerusalem Jesus has ascended the apostles have went back to Jerusalem they and 120 and the Holy Ghost is come the crowd is gathered around that upper room and Peter in Acts chapter 2 opens the doors of the New Testament Church it is there in Acts chapter 2 that Peter boldly begins to Proclaim that Jesus was crucified but he has risen from the dead it is in Acts chapter 2 that he used Old Testament scripture and proved that this is the very Christ it was in Acts chapter 2 that the Apostle Peter turned told the crowd that day Pentecost means 50 days after Passover if 50 days prior to that that same crowd had been there to celebrate Passover and they had witnessed the crucifixion and they had put their stamp of approval upon the crucifixion of the Son of God Jesus Christ it was 50 days later that Peter told them at the end of his message he said this same Jesus whom you have cruci ified that God hath made him both Lord and Christ the Bible said in Acts chapter 2 and verse number 37 when they heard this they were pricked in their heart and said unto Peter andto the rest of the Apostles men and Brethren what shall we do then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost the reason the treasure is in the one God is The Treasure of the Oneness of God lead you to the Treasure of the true biblical purpose of water baptism it is not in Scripture that you are baptized to show your faith in Christ it is not in Scripture that you are baptized to join a local assembly it is not in Scripture that you are baptized because Jesus was was baptized and you ought to be baptized because he was baptized those are not biblically biblical reasons why one should be water baptized in jesus' name the reason you are baptized in the name of Jesus is for the repentance of your sins the remission of your sins you believe he's a savior you believe you are a sinner you repent of your sins and then you are baptized in The Only Name that has salvation you are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ every sin you've ever committed is washed away every wrong that you've ever done has been removed Acts chapter 4 act excuse me Acts chapter 8 and I'm coming to a close Acts chapter 8 verse number 14 now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God they sent unto them Peter and John who when they were come down prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost for as yet he was Fallen upon none of them only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus there's another baptism in the book of Acts where they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Peter preaches to the Gentiles in Acts chapter 10 for the very first time Gentiles have the gospel presented to them in Acts chap 10 verse number 44 while Peter yet spake these words the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word they of the circumcision which believed were astonished as many as came with Peter because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God then answered Peter can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord then prayed they him to take very certain days if you want to know what the name of the Lord is ask Saul as he lays on his back blinded from the light on the Damascus Road and Saul said Lord who art thou and the Lord said I am Jesus the name of the Lord is Jesus we go on to Acts Chapter 19 Verse number one we find followers of John the Baptist and this is a tremendous scripture for those who have not been baptized uh correctly for those who have not been baptize the Bible way that we have a rebaptism that takes place in Acts 19 Acts 19 And1 it came to pass that while Apollos was at Corinth Paul passing through the upper Coast came to Ephesus and finding certain disciples he said unto them have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed they said unto him we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost he said unto them unto what then were ye baptized and they said unto John's baptism then said Paul John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him that is on Christ Jesus now would you think that someone baptized by John the Baptist would have to be re-baptized again man you Jesus said the greatest Prophet to ever live was John the Baptist but yet even those that had been baptized by John had to be baptized again why because John did not baptize them in the name that's above every name John simply bapt baptized them and said I'm baptizing you based on your faith in the one that is to come and that is on Christ Jesus the grace dispensation did not open up to the day of Pentecost they were baptized under the law John's baptism was like a coupon that you get in the paper it was valid only till Calvary it was valid only till the day of Pentecost after the day of Pentecost John's baptism was invalid but there was a new baptismal coupon that came out and that was in the name name of Jesus Christ and it will not expire until Jesus comes again for his church the Bible says unto what then were you baptized they said unto John's baptism then said Paul John verely baptized with the baptism of repentance saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him that is on Christ Jesus when they heard this they were baptized and I Do no harm to the word of God by saying re-baptized they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus when Paul had laid his hands upon them the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied and the all the men were about 12 now there's no scripture there's no baptismal service in the word of God where anybody was ever baptized for the reason of joining Church joining a church walking in the steps of Jesus or the preacher saying over them in the name of the father and and the Son and the Holy Ghost it was only done in the Bible if you want to do it the Bible way it was only done in the name of Jesus there have been some that have told me it doesn't matter what you say when you are baptized then if it doesn't matter wouldn't you want to erir in the side of the Bible and just do it the Bible Way just do it in the name of Jesus has it ever Dawn on you people don't have a problem blessing their food in Jesus name they don't have a problem praying for the sick in jesus' name but they come to the one most important thing that they ought to be concerned about and they say wait a minute when it comes to baptism we just don't need to do it the way the Bible says you need to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ stand with me today 1 Peter 3 and 18 please never believe the fallacy that is told that baptism does not play a role in your salvation baptism does play a role in your salvation 1 Peter 3:18 for Christ also has suffered for sins the just for the unjust that he might bring us to God being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit by which also he went and preached into the spirits in prison which sometime were disobedient when Once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah while the ark was of preparing where in few that his eight Souls were saved by water the like figure were unto even baptism doth also now save us not the putting away of the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience toward God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ folks today if there's anyone in this building that needs to be bapti ized in Jesus name
