Four Lessons from the Life of Judas | Senior Pastor Kenneth Carpenter

you would stand with me tonight for the reading of God's Word Bible said it is a good thing a good thing to give praise to the Lord it's a good it's a good thing to give praise to the Lord this morning I made mention to that good idea of some of these young men and young women would would get into the law enforcement ministry I guess I'll use that word ministry and be a good idea we won't change something we think something needs to be changed why don't we get in and change it and little did I know precious family the Rutherford family here from Indiana I believe got a degree in law in my center right a degree in law enforcement and just so happened he's here looking for a job in the law enforcement you know believe we already made a connection right today Sevierville into the message young man partially well he has a tremendous difficulty walking as a walking apparatus his name is Eric and at the end of the message today he came down to the front and had to set him in a chair but the day of Pentecost happened to Eric today then one of the members of the Sevierville church came and he was wearing his mask when he came in and he came in and sit down on the aisle beside me and looked over and of course he's got his a mask on and and he said something and not music was playing and I I I thought he was saying hello or praise the Lord and he took his mask off and tears word extreme and down his face he took his fist he hit the side of his hip he said I'm in constant pain and he's hit the side of his hip he said I'm just in constant pain and one thing that goes what the Spirit is healing so we slide our hand over on him right there and prayed for him right before I came to church tonight here he sent me a text he said pastor I want to tell you all my pain is gone I'm gonna tell you it wasn't my preaching it wasn't my praying but to God be the glory tonight to God be the glory tonight it's a God be the glory I was preaching this morning and I told the online audience I said if you're here in this city and you get to church you didn't get to church little bit I know one of our products Josh Harvey was at home his aunt had already spoke to him the word of the Lord and he was shook up and he said pastor when you told me to get to church he said I'm sorry I got here late I got here about 15 minutes to twelve but he got here enough time to pray through over here in the middle aisle I'm glad to have a Pentecostal church not some old cold dead religion not some old refrigerator man-made man orchestrated Church I'm glad to be in a church where the power of God is here and I'll tell you just how how deeply God will move for us he'll move his deep as we will give him glory but just as sure as we begin to take the glory he'll take his hand off of it so whatever we want from God tonight we'll give Him glory glaciar the six and verse number nine and ten praise God singers you did awesome and let us not be weary in well-doing for in due season we shall reap if we faint not as we have therefore opportunity would you say that word with me opportunity would you say it as we have therefore opportunity let us do good unto all men especially unto them who are of the household of faith pray with me now Jesus we love you tonight we come to you in childlike faith Lord Lord it is not education that brings your presence down Lord is it is not some kind of pedigree that brings your presence down Lord it is not some kind of fashion it's not a magic wand or anything like that but Lord it is hunger it is hunger that brings you down and God I am personally hungry for the book of Acts miracles signs and wonders to come in the year of 2020 God I believe you tonight that you are willing to do whatever we are willing to give you glory for God we cannot take the glory father use us tonight and Jesus at the conclusion when I have finished what I feel you have given me and we begin to move in the spirit I pray that you sweep over this place like a wind I play God that you baptize us all afresh and anew in Jesus name your servant prays tonight in Jesus name Amen you may be seated one more verse of scripture Luke 22 verse 4 through 6 speaking of Judas is Karia Judas went his way and commune with the chief priests and captain's how he might betray Jesus unto them and they were glad and made a covenant with him to give him money and he promised and saw opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude tonight for a few moments I would like for the word of the Lord to bless us with this thought for lessons from the life of Judas for four lessons this I will tell you that I have been personally blessed and ministered to by this four lessons from the life of Judas it's something I'd like to say about Judas before I begin these four lessons it is possible that we can learn what to do and what not to do from people who have made the right or the wrong decisions you can learn from people that have made the wrong decisions you can learn from people that have made the right decisions but I'd like to clear something up about Judas before I go very far and that is Judas was not born predestined to be lost he was not born just predestined he was someone God picked out of all humanity when was being conceived and said that male inside of that woman's womb he's predestined to be lost no Judas was not predestined to be lost he simply qualified his life to line up with the scriptures that were foretold about a man who would betray Messiah I submit to you tonight that if Judas had been so willing the Scriptures could have read and judas answered and said thou art the Christ the Son of the Living God and Jesus would have said blessed art thou Judas Iscariot and it could have been Simon or any of the other apostles but Judas qualified his life to fulfill the prophecy about a man who would betray Messiah Psalms 49 and excuse me Psalms 41 and 9 spoke about Judas or spoke about what he would qualify his life yeah my own familiar friend and whom I trusted did eat bread with me have lifted up his heel against me Psalms 109 8 let his days be few and let another take his office Acts chapter 1 verse 20 but he's written in the Book of Psalms with his habitation be desolate and let no man well therein and his bishopric let another let another take so we have to understand something about Judas tonight he was not predestined to be lost he simply aligned his life with those scriptures just like tonight our names are not anywhere in the Bible but we can richly partake of the promises and the blessings of God if we will qualify our lives to the Bible amen Judas for lessons that I have received from the life of Judas lesson number one Judas knew what he desired to do with Jesus he desired to rid himself of this man called Jesus he had a desire to rid himself he was not serving alongside Jesus for a long time relationship he had absolutely no plans of staying with Jesus in Judas's mind he if found his way to this Messiah and this Messiah had given him the bag he was the treasurer for the group that traveled with Jesus but not only was he the treasurer of that bag the Bible also says he was a thief and I I want to make this I want to make this note lest I would forget to make it the reason Judas held the bag and the reason money was put in the bag was so the poor could eat bread that's why it was they kept money in the bag primarily so the poor could eat bread you could buy bread for the poor if you went into a town it's amazing the Bible says that Judas was a thief he had been taking things out of a bag that didn't belong to him he was he was a thief it's interesting to note that when judgment was passed upon Judas some of the Old Testament tell about his grandchildren and his children said that his children and grandchildren would beg for a morsel of bread try that together and understand that what we even neglect or support today will affect our children and our grandchildren think about them sons and daughters of Judas and grandchildren of Judas that had to go begging on the doorsteps for a morsel of bread oh because Judas Judas he had no desire to stay with him he had a passion that somewhere along the way he would make an exit somewhere along the way possibly I could surmise and tell you that maybe he was waiting for a certain amount to get in the bag maybe he had in his mind if I could get a certain amount I'll make a saw I'll just make a silent exit and I will rid myself of this man called Jesus he had a desire he had a passion he had a drive he thought about it he looked it over some day I'm making an exit you know when you truly know the Lord the way you need to know the Lord no wonder the songwriter and I can so relate to the songwriter sweeter gets the journey every day no regrets tonight right Church I believe I'm in a company of men and women that are not looking for an exit I believe that I pass through a youth group tonight and I watched him with joy in my heart these young ladies and young men danced their way down to the altars tonight begin to praise God I believe I'm in a house tonight with a group of young people that are looking for another exit or not they're not knowing that I'm only gonna be in this for a while I'm gonna find me I believe we got some lifers in the house tonight I I believe we got some what we got some lifers in this place tonight unless the number one Judas knew what he wanted he had a desire knowing what to do with Jesus now please understand me tonight that how I can receive a lesson from this is that many times Satan takes the ways of God and turns them around opposite and make some harmful ways so tonight I'm going to turn the four lessons of judas around and hopefully prayerfully God will move on us tonight but less than number one I don't want to rid myself of Jesus I want to have more of Jesus in my life so we're not looking for any exits tonight there there are no exits tonight there's no other life if we could live tonight cuz can't nobody do me like the Lord there's no other life to live tonight that could even be comparable to the life of the child of God so I stand here tonight with a passion I stand here tonight with a desire not to rid myself of Jesus but I stand here tonight with a desire to include him in my life Lord we're not looking for exits Lord I'm not looking for a means of betrayal the word betrayal means to surrender or transmit something or someone to another let the history record this sermon tonight I am NOT looking for an exit I want to keep saying that tonight I'm not looking for an exit I'm going to serve God tonight good days and through bad I'm going to serve God tonight through sunshine through rain I'm gonna serve God tonight through pain and through well I'm gonna serve God tonight because there's no other place to go I've sold out and I have not looked for an exit I'm not trying to rid myself of him but I'm trying as the song says I want more of Jesus more and more can I get a witness tonight because I believe I'm in a house filled with young men young women moms and dads and grandparents I want more of Jesus because he's never done me nothing but good come on give him a praise before I go to lesson number two it's my desire it's my desire to serve God it's my desire to live for Jesus it's my passion it's my desire I don't only think of him on Sunday but I think of him through the day on Sunday I not only think of him on Sunday but he's the first thing on my mind on Monday morning I not only think of him in the morning but several times through the day his name drops upon my lips his word comes through my mind and as I'm going about my day a 24/7 man I'm going about my day their spontaneous worship that bursts forth it might be in the car driving down the road that it just comes out automatically thank you Jesus thank you lord it just comes out automatically going through the house it's just as almost as it's almost as natural as breathing I don't have to tell myself to breathe I don't have to tell myself to take the next breath it just comes natural to inhale and exhale and it's the same way with Jesus nobody has to remind me nobody has to tell me you don't have to put a steeple in a building in front of me I don't have to look at my church go going to go on to church clothes they just some time I just say thank you Jesus praise your name Lord I love you Almighty God cuz I'm not looking for an exit but you got to understand something with me tonight desire alone desire alone desire alone will not fulfill Judas's plot desire alone will not fulfill my plot for Judas in Luke chapter 22 and verse number 4 and he went his way and commune with the chief priests and captains how he might betray him unto them and they were glad and made a covenant with him and gave him money he promised and look at that word and salt opportunity now you got understand the word opportunity is a what word that means a window it means a season it means a period of time that must be seized upon it means a period of time that won't be here in the next few days it is an opportunity it is an opportunity to do something it is a season Judas is looking for an opportunity a season you see this opportunity our season it's it's again I want to say it's that it's that period of time and I would try out 2ne1 tonight not serving the Lord take your chance take your advantage tonight of this opportunity if you're here tonight and you have not received the Holy Ghost tonight is a night of opportunity for your life if you're here tonight and you've not been water baptized listen to this opportunity sins removed sins remitted clothing for you he did water ready for you a man ready to baptize you in Jesus name tonight but you have to understand what the opportunity looks like you have the opportunity today to receive the Holy Ghost you have the opportunity today to be baptized in Jesus name you have the opportunity tonight to worship and praise God a window of opportunity the music has played the singers have prayed the singers have son there's an opportunity here but in just a little while the opportunity for you to worship will be gone the building the lights will be turned off the youth musical instruments will be silenced until Wednesday night can I tell you tonight that there is a tremendous window of opportunity and you've got to recognize that opportunity opportunities are not always here opportunities are not always given the Apostle Paul said the Apostle Paul said as you have opportunity do good unto all men but especially those of the household of faith we heard the other day a month or so ago we we were out walking my wife and I and we met a young man some 50 year old 53 year old man driving his car in the neighborhood and he stopped we got to talk and he had moved in with his mom and dad our neighbors and we talked to him we talked to mark and we talked about the church and you see I understood something there why his car was idling I understood I had an opportunity understood I had an opportunity and I'm on telling more than I'm the pastor that brick church over there because that and four dollars to get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks all right that's not much to tell somebody about so my wife and I was invited into church that's that's an opportunity we talked about the Lord that was an opportunity a few days ago we noticed a lot of cars around their house down there thought it was a family reunion of some sort someone brought us the horrible news that mark fifty-three years old had suffered from a massive heart attack and had passed away now there's a funeral plan I don't care how busy Memorial Day is I don't care how hot the grill is on the back porch I don't care how many family members are coming over you just have a window to go you have a window to walk into that funeral home his body's not going to be there on a Tuesday you can't make all the kind of excuses that you're busy because there's a window there and I took advantage of that window and I went into that funeral home and the family was so glad to see pastoring and we had a good time but I think that they'll never forget that what do you said what you say they'll never forget that that on a busy day Memorial Day a pastor chained and came to a funeral home to pay his respects were you trying to say I'm trying to say we have an opportunity tonight to receive the Holy Ghost we have an opportunity tonight to be refilled with the Holy Ghost we have an opportunity to not to be baptized in Jesus name you have an opportunity tonight to come and be prayed for if you've got a sickness in your body you have an opportunity tonight for God to do something in your life Judas understand something my desire alone will not fulfill my mission of ridding me of Jesus I must connect myself with people that can help me fulfill my plot to rid myself of Jesus he knew what he was doing because desire needs details if you don't have details your desires going nowhere you must have details for your desire to begin to take root and bear fruit you got to have details and he knew he had to connect himself with men brother clay burn that hated Jesus if I'm going to rid myself of Jesus I have got to connect myself with men that hate him I can see it that night I can see it that night Abby I can see it that night when Judas walked into that meeting with the chief priests and the temple captains me and that be him initely hated Jesus the mention of the his name caused them to snarl and growl like dogs they hated him I can see Judas in my mind as he walked in the back of the room and one of them looked up at him and said what do you want what are you doing here hey hey boys keep down on the talk about how we're going to kill him one of his just came in the back of the room cheek down the talk what are you doing here I'm Judas I want to help you kill Jesus what the Bible says praise broke out in their room they were glad what one of his own what Judas come on up here to the front come on up here to the front gee listen sit down and let's talk I understand you all hate Jesus and I want to rid myself of him I've had a desire for three and a half years to get rid of him I've looked for exits he finally gave me one a woman was going to give a gift to the ministry an alabaster box adornment that would been worth a year's wages in this bag he allowed the woman to break it over his head and pour it on him I'm done with him I can surrender him to you you won't him without a crowd you want him without the multitude around I know where he's at you see boys quite often he retires down to a garden called Gethsemane not many people visit that garden I know the tree that he kneels behind for the scripture records about Judas he knew the place isn't it sad when we know the place but we don't know that God who changes us in the place he said well what would it take for you to show us well it will take some money boys you see I'm gonna make my exit when I make my exit I need to have a lot of money in this bag here because I need to make my exit lesson number two Judas his desire has to marry duty it has to marry details he has to join himself up with people that can help him get his goal it's a lot like Amnon in the Bible Amnon had a half-sister named Tamar Amnon fell a lusting after his half-sister Tamar the lust must have been severe for the Bible said that Amnon was sick with the love for the less but he fought it hard to do anything to her because she was a virgin so he had a desire to have Tamar but he had to get his desire married to detail but that's alright the story will tell about a friend that M nan had named Jonah damn and jonadab came and Jonah dad had the details he said Amnon act like you're sick your daddy will come visit you and when he comes in the bedroom to visit you tell him you're sick and when your daddy asks can there do anything for you you say dad as a matter of fact you can would you have Tamar bake me some bread and bring me some bread down here and Tamar baked bread brought it down to M nons bedchamber and when Tamar came and brought the bed bread and handed it to him in the bed Amnon reached and grabbed her and raped her you see Amnon had the desire but Jonah dad had the details Judas had the desire but the chief priests had the details and so the lesson number two that I learned I can't just have a desire to know Jesus I can't just have a burning zeal that my life needs God I need some details and then if I need details I need to get with people that have the details I need to go join myself up to a pastor I need a pastor for more than when I get married and more than what I want I have need a funeral priest I need a pastor more than just what I need marriage counseling I need a pastor more than one my children get rebellious I need a pastor to weekly tell me how to have my desires fulfilled I need to come to a church and have a pastor tell me Jesus wants you to praise Him Jesus wants you to lift up your hands Jesus wants you to be faithful to his house Jesus wants you to worship Him Jesus wants you to give your heart Jesus wants you to think about him in every major decision of his of your life Jesus wants you to think about him in the morning think about him in the noon day and think about him when the Sun comes down Jesus wants you to think about him when you go to buy your clothes Jesus want to think about him when you decide what kind of entertainment yes you're gonna have Jesus wants you to think about him when you're planning out your life Jesus won't you listen if you want your desire to come to fruition you've got to join yourself just some people that don't hate Jesus but some people that love Jesus come on praise and with me running you need to have a pastor to tell you what Jesus loves you need to have a pastor a man of God you need to come back on Wednesday night with a Bible because the pastor is going to tell you something that Jesus loves he loves the product got to get certain people in your life if you want your desire to go anywhere you got to get people in your life that love Jesus because the only way Judas ridded rid himself of Jesus was he had to start running with people that hated Jesus the only way we're going to have a relationship is I'm going to yoke up with people that are half in the church I want to yoke up with people that if I decide in the youth group that I'm going to talk about Jesus on the way to the restaurant I'm not going to be like some alien that just got dropped down in the back seat of the car let me tell you something young people don't you run with other young people you can't talk about Jesus around don't you don't you right and don't you run with young people that you have to keep your mouth closed you really like to speak up and said I don't believe that's right don't you put yourself in that environment you see God's got a calling for your life young man God's got a calling for your life young lady and you don't need to run with people that are selling Jesus out you need to run with young men and young women that can say hey would you fast with me tomorrow hey I'm gonna do without lunch on Tuesday hey would you come over late we're going to have a prayer meeting we're going to read some scripture that's the kind of people you need to run with I don't care if they do come to this church you don't need to run with young people that's got marijuana in their car you don't need to run with young people that you leave here in their car tonight and turn the radio on it's all kind of music that glorifies an ungodly lifestyle it ain't unit ain't fun either this is serious business we want to make it to heaven whether you put Jesus on a cross or put him in your heart determines on who you join yourself up with I'm not looking for an exit I'm looking to bar the door because I don't want to leave come on give me some praise right and listen friend hey I'm not gonna be your friend if you're telling one dirty joke after another I'm sorry I will be friendly to you but I will not be your friend I will listen if you cheatin around on your wife and you don't have you you don't have any good morals I don't need to have you in my life and that don't only goes for the men but that goes for the women you don't need if your marriage is a little unhappy for God's sake don't you yoke up with another one that's a half unhappy because two halves make a whole and you need if you got a little happiness in your marriage you need to get with somebody unless you're looking for the accent now if you're looking for the exit then listen you could be married to Jesus Christ and he couldn't please you but if you're having a little bump in your marriage you need to get with some woman or some man that's not a good marriage going on and that's who you need to work with when desire marries detail don't tell me jonadab how I can how I can buy that stuff you see you have curiosity of what something tastes like or what something feels like the only way you'll get it is to run with someone that can get it for you that's where you make the problem Judas had the desire of ridding himself of Jesus but he couldn't do it alone he had to marry someone that hated Jesus don't allow your desire to marry the wrong details marry yourself to somebody marry yourself to some pastor who don't get his sermons out of Reader's Digest we're not doing no Mayberry series around this church Saint John Boy on John Boy is mounting around here we're not coming to hear a positive mental attitude sermon and your destiny and you're going to God's got destiny for you and you can live like the devil till you get to your destiny that's not what God has planned for us you need to get with a pastor that will tell you what you don't want to hear you need that you need to go to a church to wherever now and then you walk out with your backside a little sore because he's taken the Word of God because they had none of us perfect tonight come on on this preaching tonight I've just learned some things from Judas that's right it ought to be normal every now and then you go out of here with your backside hurt a little bit boy he's sure got on me tonight man I sure who do you think you are you think you're already perfected you think you listen you full of pride if you are all of us need to be preached to all of us need the Word of God to come down on us there's not a 1 in this building tonight I don't care how old you are I don't how many how many offices you've held in how many churches there's not a one of us tonight that don't need the Word of God to come in warm us and tell us to get back in line can I tell you an eighty-year-old come back slide just like an 18 year old is the financial view that Judas had of Jesus Judas viewed Jesus through the eyes of a financial view that's why he took him that's why he went to those men was money because when he looked at Jesus he looked at him through the eyes of money it's not our Bible say that the love is a root of all evil we are supposed to love money we're supposed to love God so Judas looked at Jesus through the eyes of money thirty pieces of silver that's what he's worth that's what he viewed so the lesson that I learned and I flip it around that I must look through money to Jesus I must look through money to Jesus now let me show you this people driving a $40,000 car come in this church and ask you wouldn't have any free Bibles around here with you you know I give Bibles away and I'd give Bible I guess I guess if they come in with a Rolls Royce I'd give them a Bible you know that Bible probably is not gonna do them much good if we can use money for everything but anything with God the best money you'll ever spend I got me a Bible study going on right now both Darren brother Darren would you stand you need my Bible state way back there in the back I I was gonna tell you I gonna tell you in this state standing this just for a second you can get on to me next Saturday when we have a Bible study I was gonna tell everybody in the church he served 24 years in prison in California all right well he did all right he did as a correctional officer I love you Darren I love ya the reason Williams staying tonight it's Saturday at our Bible study we have the Bible study Saturday morning my office he bought him a brand new Bible he went down to Cedar Springs bookstore and he brought him a brand new Bible and and and I happen to know because I was at cedar Brook strut Cedar Springs bookstore yesterday and I looked at that Bible and I know what you paid for that Bible all right you dropped almost a pin Benjamin Franklin for that Bible but can I tell you something you sir man $100 for a Bible bottle you make you be seated now can I tell you something if Judas could look at money to rid himself of Jesus then I can look at money to bring Jesus to me so any CD you bring I'm not talking about money I'm talking about a CD that's not preaching on it any kind of material out there in the bookstore you say well well they sell you baby take they sell books how turn the books right you know that's right that's right we sell books out there in the bookstore and do you know the best money you would spend the knife would be to stop by the bookstore and buy you there's all kind of books on marriage there's all kind of books on outreach all kinds of books out there you would stand back I guarantee you you'll go drop 40 bucks at all breeze tonight and buy in the morning it's all lost its ability its flavor but if you step out there and buy you some material you buy you a book on getting a prayer life you buy you a book I had a witness and how to go can I tell you we need to look at money I believe when we get to heaven I believe when we get to heaven now we will have brains that will be unbelievable I believe that we will have the ability the Bible said that we shall be like him I believe that we will have an unbelievable mind in that glorified body and I believe we get to heaven there's going to be multiple conversations of complete strangers walking up to you from another continent and they're going to walk up to you and they're going to say thank you for being a monthly supporter to Papua New Guinea or to the Philippines brother Namie people you never met before on this earth are going to walk up and they're going to say thank you because it was your faithful monthly support that was dropped into those little bags at the front of the building those little bags were put into a bank account that bank account the secretary wrote a check that went across the seas to that missionary that missionary got it out of the mailbox and that missionary went down and rented a building and that missionary got traction that native tongue and you were able to hear then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ because you saw money I believe tonight you don't understand this is God's house this is God's house and we don't have a testimony of somebody hitting the lottery and coming by and paying their tithe on 50 million I don't know that'd be much of a testimony I don't believe it'd be much of a testimony to know that somebody way out yonder we didn't even know come in 280 million dollars and decided to see in the mayor of a church 15 million I don't believe this building brother Eddie Shipley would mean anything to us if that would happen but the reason this building means something to us is that there's some vacations that we're not taken but the money for the resort and the plane tickets went into the church so that the building could be built and it is a magnificant building it is a beautiful building you just disagree with this if you want to our God deserves the best if Mickey Mouse deserves the best in Orlando for the love of God Jesus Christ deserves the best come on somebody let it go down in history that we gave the best that we could give let strange how people bring money down to the altar can I tell you it's a culture we got here it's a culture we got here because we're not looking for money to rid ourselves of Jesus by some tracks by another TV camera by another way that we can webcast find them the way that we can reach the world by another way do we can get some more missionaries you begin to look at money through the eyes how can I use this to get more of Jesus into people's lives Judas used money to rid himself of Jesus Judas had a higher number one he got hooked up with their own people number two he only looked at Jesus through the eyes of money don't ever look at the things of God through the eyes of money less than number for my last left my last point the musicians would make their way lesson number four brother Zach Hammond Judas gave his life Judas gave his life it's an ugly scene but Judas rent realizes remember the opportunity I spoke to you about some where Judas realizes he's done wrong he makes his way back to that same room that was glad to see when he asked what do you want I won't even back want him back yeah you're all down there beating him about his face you're all down there chutney me too with the cat of nine tails I didn't know you were going to do that to him don't you tell us how to treat Jesus you sold him you sold to kill me how to treat what's mine now
