have your bibles and would turn with me to the book of job the book of job if i get a little bit more monitor please the book of job chapter number 22 and verse number 22 job chapter 22 and verse 22 i want to continue this evening what i was teaching about sunday morning on from the upper room to the living room and i want to continue that this wednesday evening how many is glad for your bible glad for the word of god job 22 and verse and i said 20 22 22 exactly job 22 21 is actually the verse acquaint now thyself with him and be at peace thereby good shall come unto thee i hope you realize the power that's in that one verse acquaint now thyself with him and be at peace thereby good shall come unto thee i joined tonight with pastor erickson it's so good to see brother shannon wilson back home out of the hospital and successful surgery and i'm so thankful so thankful to have his mom and dad here with us tonight we give them of the highest of honor i'm glad for the presence of the lord that is here sweet presence of god someone said someone said what's the presence of the lord feel like well i can better describe what it doesn't feel like well you know when it's not there but i'm so glad it's here tonight if you just take a moment and thank the lord that you're privileged to hear the word tonight would you join with me as i thank him father i thank you for the word thank you god for this blessed road map thank you god for this blessed comforter god that we have that lord when this world is upside down and our lives are upside down and god it seems like that everything that we touch is breaking and every way that we go is the wrong move lord i'm so glad for your word god that stands and your word is an anchor to our souls lord i'll give you the praise and the honor and the glory tonight in jesus wonderful name we pray amen amen give the lord in the word a hand clap of praise right now oh hallelujah hallelujah you may be seated job is being interrogated roasted by some judgmental friends he's got some judgmental friends that have heard of everything that has happened to job's life and job would later call them miserable comforters he said you are a miserable comforter well one thing they did the bible said they came and when they saw the anguish of his soul the bible said they set seven days and looked at him and never said one word to him i don't know about you if somebody has come to see me in the hospital stand there more than seven minutes and not say something i'd have an issue with them but when they did open their mouths they began false accusations mainly it dealt with uh well it just dealt with come on job confess up you know you have sinned come on job tell it they did everything they they questioned job's character they even questioned job's theology they they said even the way you talk about god is the wrong way to talk about talk about god but you know even sometimes judgmental critical people can drop a nugget of truth you know sometimes your critics they're not always right but sometimes they're not always wrong so in in this chapter 22 of just question his character and you've got the wrong theology and you're all wrong job they did he did drop one little truth he said in verse 21 he said acquaint now thyself with him acquaint thyself in other words get to know him get acquainted with him and break it down into three little segments acquaint now thyself with him in other words right now is the time to acquaint yourself with him and then and then be at peace acquaint yourself with him and be at peace there by good shall come unto thee our lives you know as well as i do that our lives are made up of relationships our entire all of our lives are made up of what's called relationships the first and the most important relationship that affects and flavors all other relationships is you got it your relationship with god the reason that god has to be the first relationship in your life is because that one relationship if left if left in such a way that you're not in the right relationship with god you'll never have peace inside of your soul there'll never be peace inside of you if you don't have that first relationship established with him that's why the very first relationship which is your god relationship will flavor every relationship in your life good or bad now we understand that if we have the right relationship with god if our relationship with god is right then that relationship flavors my personal life because i have peace i have peace peace like a river peace that is different than what the world can give i have a peace that the world didn't give it to me and the world can't take it away i have a peace that the that the six o'clock well i say six o'clock in the 11 o'clock news and i just dated myself we got 24-hour breaking news on the hour of breaking news i've got a piece that the news cannot take away from me i've got this peace of god so he said acquaint thyself acquaint thyself with the lord with him be at peace thereby good shall come unto thee this word acquaint i'm going to use two definitions of it a quaint simply means what our dictionary says webster says to get to know one another we'll say hey let's get acquainted let's get acquainted and that simply means let's let's get to know one another let's let's get acquainted let's get to know one another now in job he said acquaint yourself now with god now acquaint thyself now now is the time to make this acquaintance to get to know god in psalms 103 verses 1 through 5. david is going to tell us a little bit about this deep rooted and i requested that song right before i come to the pulpit tonight deep down in my soul deep down in my soul because that's where you and i get our relationship with him is deep down in our soul deep down in our soul david said in psalms 103 verse 1 bless the lord o my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name bless the lord o my soul have you ever noticed in the bible there's a lot of repetition we need repetition repetition keeps us reminded of some valuable things in our lives we need to keep on being and reminded and reminded over and over and over again lest we forget that nothing in your life will ever work out if your god relationship isn't in line nothing will ever work out i don't care the job you get the person you marry the family you marry into or what have you nothing is ever going to work out if your god relationship isn't right starts off by saying bless the lord oh my soul sound like he talking to himself well he is he is talking to himself because you must understand that we have a relationship that although a corporate gathering is wonderful i have a relationship with god that attaches me to a corporate body but do you know that i have i am a self-contained relationship with god in other words i am never without power unless i deem myself without power you know the bible said that david when they spoke of stoning him when he is a captain led them into battle and the enemy came back around and took their wives and took all of their children and burned their cities when david brought his men back and they saw their wives were gone their houses were burnt their children were gone they spake of stoning david but there's a little nugget of scripture that says but david encouraged himself in the lord his god can i tell you when you get the peace of knowing god when everybody turns their back against you you can go around the corner somewhere and get in a prayer room and you can begin to encourage yourself in the lord your god don't ever believe that you have to be at church to get some encouragement don't ever believe you have to be with somebody else to get some encouragement david said bless the lord o my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name bless the lord o my soul verse 2 and forget not all his benefits david said i'm going to start talking to myself deep down in my soul deep down in my soul bless the lord he had to be a little repetitious here because sometimes we have to say things over and over again to kind of get our mind on jesus the way it needs to be but then he kind of planed out and he said bless the lord o my soul and don't you forget his benefits can i tell you something there is benefits to serving god there's benefits to serving the lord he said forget not all of his benefits now he's going to list the benefits who forgiveth all thine iniquities who healeth all thy diseases who redeemeth thy life from destruction who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies who satisfyeth thy mouth with good things so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles can i tell you get to know him tonight get to know acquaint yourself notice the verse in job 22 21 said acquaint thyself now with him listen my friend right now is the best time to start acquainting yourself with him right now on a wednesday night in a bible study is one of the best times in the world to say you know i want to have something deep down inside of me i want to have a peace that is deep inside of me psalms 42 verse number 1 again again the psalmist is going to tell us a little bit about this piece he says in psalms 42 verse number 1 as the heart or the that's a deer that's a deer as the deer panteth after the water brooks so pantent my soul after thee oh god now watch this please watch this david pictures in his mind he sees something he sees something and he says that's exactly how i feel about god that's exactly the way that i hunger for god david heard the barking of the dogs and david saw a beautiful deer come running through the woods and david looked and the savage dogs were chasing this beautiful deer and i we don't really know how long it was that he had chased that they had chased this deer but the deer was panting the deer was panting for the water brooks the deer was trying to find a place to to to drink some refreshing cool water and david said that's exactly how i feel about my god he said as the heart as the deer pants after the water brooks that's exactly the way that i am about my god when you really get in a relationship with god the have to is erase and the get to is placed in your heart can i tell you tonight that you're probably not in the relationship if it went something like this do we have to go tonight you're really not in the right relationship with god it's like it's wednesday it's church time we get to go in the presence of god why they're going to condition the building with prayer there's going to be people here praying a good half hour before the musicians are going to be playing the singers are going to be singing the saints are going to be worshiping and most of all the presence of god is going to be here that's what i'm panting after that's what i need i need the presence of god come on give him some praise tonight hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah whoa hallelujah hallelujah back when brother and sister dotson attended church here they now pastor in blairsville georgia she was down at the mall shopping one day and a clerk came up to her and identified her as an apostolic and went through a long list oh you go to that church where that preacher makes you give 10 of your income to the church you go to that church where the preacher makes you do this it makes you do that sister dotson told that clerk said i don't know what in the world you're talking about i said i i do go to that church but said my pastor doesn't make me do that she said it's our privilege to get to do that you see when you're in a relationship with a rule it's a got to but when you're in the relationship with the redeemer it's a get to i get to go tonight i i get to praise god you see how that you see how that works don't you verse 2 my soul thirsteth for god for the living god when shall i come and appear before god my tears have been my meat day and night i live off my consecration while they continually say unto me where is where is thy god david just talks about hungering for the lord he talks about his tears and he says they're my meat my my tears are my consecration my my food that's what i feed off of it that peace deep down inside of my soul touches it touches my emotions now i gave you the definition of the word acquaint as we know it by webster's dictionary but it's interesting when you study the hebrew word acquaint that's just a little bit of different slant to it the hebrew word for acquaint sister carpenter means to be of profit or profitable to be a prophet not the prophet like the prophets in the bible a prophet like prophets and losses to be of profit to be profitable let's stop there for a minute let me poll the audience how many of you want to be profitable to the lord you know i want to be profitable to him uh i don't like that testimony somebody gave one time oh lord i'm like a sponge i just like to come to church and just soak it all up i don't want to be like a sponge i want to be like a container i want to come to church and receive and then i want to go out in the world and pour it out i won't be profitable to god i i want to be a prophet to god he said acquaint yourself or in other words in other words be of prophet to him ask yourself the question when you die what will your eulogy sound like what will your eulogy sound like when you die what will it sound like he was he was a great sportsman man we did this and we did that and that's all well and good or she sure was a fine dresser man she knew how to be a fashion queen man i mean she was ever more a fashion queen and again once again that's swelling good too but you know the most important thing that can be said at your funeral they knew god oh they knew god one of the most important things and if we don't watch it this generation will not have this but one of the greatest things at a funeral is to get a child of god's bible and start reading out of it and say oh look over here look at this note they made about this and look at this note they made about that you see your greatest eulogy will be simply this how profitable were you to the kingdom how profitable were you to the kingdom acquaint means to be a prophet or profitable no wonder in mark chapter 8 and verse number 36 jesus spoke these words he spoke these words in mark 8 36 for what shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world they tell me that i guess and i may be wrong on this correct me after church not now publicly they tell me that elon musk is the most wealthiest man in the world you know if he doesn't know god he's a pauper he'll beg one day do you hear me he will beg one day he will beg oh to be this man to be that man to be that person they they figured up how much um a man was worth one time and they figured it this way they said if he's walking through an airport and he dropped a hundred dollar bill out of his pocket onto the floor said for him to stop and pick it up he's lost money his time is more valuable they told me that and i said well tell me where he's walking through the airport i could for what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose and lose his own soul or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul acquaint yourself with him how important is it to be profitable to god how important is it to be profitable to the kingdom of god jesus says in matthew 25 30 and cast ye the unprofitable servant who is the servant let me hear it he's unprofitable into outer darkness there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth i don't have to expound much longer of where that place is at romans 3 and 12 romans 3 and 12 telling about humanity and how lost humanity is paul simply says they are all gone out of the way they are together become unprofitable there is none that doeth good no not one are you starting to kind of feel like hey i want to be profitable i i i want to be i want to be profitable hebrews chapter 13 and verse number 17 follow this one closely obey them that have the rule over you obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourselves for they watch for your souls as they that must give an account that they may do it with joy and not with grief you follow me for that is unprofitable for you that's unprofitable for you paul had been on that ship they should have listened to paul they should have listened to him paul tried to tell him sirs let's don't leave this harbor let's don't leave this harbor let's winter here let's don't leave let's winter here excuse me who are you again i'm i'm paul the apostle the preacher of the resurrected one called jesus christ well could you tell me what you know about sailing can you tell me what you know about the sea and about that time the owner and the master of the ship the men that could navigate stepped up there was one man that had permission there was one man that had the authority to say sell or not sail and he said how say ye and they said let's go the seas are calm it seems like the storms will be late blowing in this season let's go let's go and they rejected the words of paul and they set sail only to be met by a hurricane named uroclidin your rocklin meant that the winds blew furious in all four directions by the time they figured they were caught they could do nothing but take the sails down and just for 14 miserable days and nights they were driven the bible says that they didn't even see the stars for 14 days and nights driven casting the cargo overboard but somewhere along there an angel of god had one passenger on that ship there was one passenger there was actually two hundred 276 passengers on that ship but there was one of them that was in a relationship with god and god sent an angel without the aid of gps radar satellite god knew just where his man was at paul in in acts 27 and verse 22. paul now speaks up you know it seems like people are more apt to hear the preacher when they're in the storm glad to hear you sometimes we kind of listen we kind of listen you know dr kind tells us to die a little bit and yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah then when he comes in and says i'm going to do some bypass surgery on you kind of like listen look i'm going to stay off that fried food i'm going to go that's human nature that's human nature now they're going to listen to him he says in verse 22 and now i exhort you to be of good cheer for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you but of the ship for there stood by me this night i want you to follow this closely there stood by me this night the angel of god whose i am and whom i serve we're very quick to say we belong to the lord but can we add that second part to it he not only said i've been baptized i've received the holy ghost and i've spoken tongues and i believe in one god he said i not only belong to him but let me tell you something i also serve him i not only want to be able to say i'm a child of god i want to be able to say i'm also a servant of the most high god because that's that's the relationship that you need to be in you know it's interesting how we go through how we go through spiritual seasons in our lives now let me tell everybody something tonight all of us in all of the relationships where it's a relationship where the main ones your relationship with god the second one will be your relationship with the church body okay and then your relationship and your marriage your relationship with children and your relationship with trials of life but listen to me tonight all of those relationships will have one defining moment there will be a moment in those relationships where you will make a decision that will define you for the rest of your life i can only speak for myself but i believe i can speak for everybody when we come to the lord and we receive this new testament plan of salvation this joy unspeakable and full of glory this new lifestyle we go through a time that we're glad to be in the church but have we really made up our mind that we're staying here that we're just not passing through from trouble trouble brought me in and when the trouble we've seen this too many times haven't we we've seen people be brought to god by trouble but when the trouble lifts they leave somewhere in somewhere you need to have a defining moment something you have to sacrifice something you're willing to give up someone you're willing to let them walk away or not think favorable about you but you're willing to say god i love you more then i love peer pressure i love you more than i love what the world has to say about me god i love you more all of us are going to have that defining moment in our lives i had it i had it i had that defining moment when i got in church i still kind of run with my old friends i still kind of ran with my old friends and you know what they didn't have any trouble with me slipping off on sunday to go to church but when my lifestyle started altering when my lifestyle started altering and i began to say i don't want to go do that anymore i don't want to do that i know i know where y'all going friday night i i like being your friend but i i just don't want to do that then you know what then that's when we got the harassing two o'clock in the morning phone calls with the jokingly singing amazing grace in the preacher boy but there had to be a defining moment to where i said you know what they may go on with their life but god you have arrested me body soul and spirit god i'm staying in this thing i don't know these people here as long as i knew my old friends in the world but god i want you to know i'll stand for jesus and let the world go by i'll claim his promises he will supply we'll walk together just the lord and i but i'll stand for jesus and i'll let the world have you had that moment have you had that moment in your life it's a defining moment brother too many of us read this chapters and we think that jesus came by and said simon peter follow me and simon peter just started following jesus that's not so when you read the timeline of the bible it is so that jesus called simon peter but it's not so that he immediately left the ships and the nets and followed jesus months went by months went by oh after a long night of fishing or a long day of fishing peter would slip off to wherever jesus was teaching but he was not a devoted he he hadn't come to that defining moment in his life but one day as jesus decides to preach early of the morning peter had fished all night long and caught nothing jesus asked to use peter's boat peter obliged jesus jesus preached out of the boat and then you know the story jesus told peter to launch out into the deep for a drought you'll read with me in the book of luke where jesus says master master we have toiled all night long master we have toilet all night long master and caught nothing but then he said well nevertheless he let down his nets and when he let down his nets look with me at luke chapter 5 and verse 8 when he let down his nets a great multitude of fish filled it peter then comes to a defining moment in his life when simon peter saw it he fell down at jesus knees saying depart from me for i am a sinful man oh lord here is a defining moment he says all right you don't know me leave me lord leave me and the lord went on and said no i'm not going to leave you from now on you're going to catch men it was a defining moment the bible said peter pulled the boats to shore sow the boats brother yates sowed the nets sold his fish and business and when somebody said what's wrong peter the fish not biting what's wrong is business bad peter is saying i've had a defining moment with god almighty and my life is going to be altered would you please have that defining moment with him would you please stop just attending church here stop just being a part of a small group here stop just calling this your church would you please for the love of god have a defining moment that says it's me it's jesus and we're going to have a relationship would you please have that can i tell you what defining moments will do for you you can't you can't have it you can't be more polar than this polar opposite than this in luke 5 8 peter says would you leave me peter says will you leave me in luke 5 8 but in john 6 chapter 6. verse 66 it's some time later jesus is not doing miracles he's telling how he's going to die and he's telling them that unless you drink my blood and eat my flesh you have no part do you realize what a stomach turning sermon that was now we know communion now we know the blood symbol the wine symbolizes the blood and the bread symbolize but could you imagine that day brother erickson when he stood there at that crowd and he said hey unless you drink my blood and eat my flesh you have no part of me i can hear the voices now in the crowd that's gross i can't believe you would say that how in the world of course they were thinking in a natural and they they begin to get up and leave can i tell you something that when we start talking about 666 instead of going to the book of revelation you ought to go to the book of john chapter 6 verse 66. from that time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him man they said eat your flesh and drink your blood you know in a way i'm gonna get it you see too many times defining moments are made by what you can see or you can't see see what he was really saying he wasn't really saying drink my blood and eat my flesh like cannibalism he was saying my blood is life he was saying you've got to get my life in you and my flesh is me you've got to get my word that's what that was that was you've got to get my word inside of you well they just said that's gross that's cannibalism we're out of here and they begin to get up john 6 66 from that time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him then said jesus unto the twelve will ye also go away then simon peter answered him remember the man from luke the man that said depart get away from me you see defining moments have a way of causing maturity in our lives then simon peter answered him lord to whom shall we go for thou hast the words of eternal life and we believe and are sure that thou art the christ the son of the living god can i tell you when you have a defining moment you stand on your own crowds peer pressure all the kind of things will never alter you you'll stand flat-footed and say i'm going nowhere i'm staying right here in the church let trouble come let trials come let heartache come let somebody gossip about me back bite about me lie about me facebook me let them do whatever they want to do i'm still going to praise the mighty name of jesus because i've had a defining moment you have a defining moment in your church you get around people you'll have a defining moment things will happen that seem to be unfair i heard brother osborne say that one thing about unfairness it's fair to everybody it's fair to everybody it'll be things happen when you have a defining moment with the church that you say we're not going anywhere we're not going anywhere horrible things will happen with the church family even of this size divorce will invade our ranks there'll be things happen a young lady will get pregnant out of wedlock a young boy in the church will be the father there'll be saints that make horrible mistakes but can i tell you something no one has ever bettered their life by leaving church just because you don't like what your doctor says you're foolish to not like what he says get a second opinion if you want to but you're foolish to one another i've seen people they won't like what one church stands for and they'll go to another church and for a season they'll just sing their praises until they hear something there they don't like and they'll find another place and you know what they're never profitable to the kingdom of god because they keep getting uprooted and they keep getting uprooted and all they can do getting uprooted and uprooting and uprooting is only maintain their foliage they can never stay long enough to bear fruit they can never stay long enough to be a blessing to the congregation or a blessing to we all need to have a defining moment we all need to have a defining moment if we paint the walls a different color don't leave if we buy something you don't think we ought to buy don't leave we all have to have a defining moment but wait a minute do you know that even marriages have a defining moment i'm talking about that season i know you're in love i know you're in love i i i know when you're engaged and you love i can't live without him i can't live without her oh we're talking to people or we're just talking to each other on the phone and and you know and and i believe you're in love we were we were madly in love you get married and the pause is intentional you get married you get married yeah you get married and there's a thing called reality oh i just loved his cologne what about the old black whiskers he leaves in the sink oh he dresses so sharp what about his undergarments oh she just knocks my eye out what about when she does what about when y'all can't agree on how to spend the money what about when god help us when in-laws get involved oh come don't you don't y'all sit there like not ask you better believe it i'll call you out in a minute things start happening you have a defining moment oh you it's not a defining moment of whether you stay in that marriage it's a defining moment to where you stand and say we're going to correct this i'm going to listen to you i'm gonna try to see your view the best that i can it's that defining moment when you two get together and say the most important relationship in our life honey is our relationship with jesus christ there is nothing that hell fears more than a man and a woman put together in holy matrimony and that love god and want to do a work listen hell doesn't want the aquilas and the priscillas to thrive in the church he doesn't want husband and wive teams to be just to be crazy in love with each other do you know that if i took a moment and started picking out some successful businesses that are here in this church and i could pick several successful business owners in this church and could i tell you what all of them have in common it's a husband and wife team that love god that say things like this when a contract comes their way that's unbelievable we're going to be able to bless the work of the lord oh we're going to be able to bless the work of the lord can i tell you this evening have that defining moment in your marriage have that defining moment that you're not going to live your life to tolerate one another it's sad to say but there are some couples that are living for the day that the nest is empty and haven't we seen this happen when the nest gets empty they separate because all they live for was just to get the kids raised it's a sad sorry reason to stay married why don't you just have a defining moment in your marriage and say this is not the way it's supposed to be we've all had those moments and said you know what god's not pleased with us god's not pleased with us arguing the way we're doing god's not playing and i'm trying to be transparent with you tonight but god's not pleased with us when a man and a woman that have got great conflict in their lives god's not pleased that you're continually and continually and continually and i'm not saying that you're going to reach a place it's kind of like sinless perfection i'm not saying that you'll ever reach a place where you and your spouse won't have some words me and sister carpenter still do have words i don't get to use mine but we still do have words i'm picking on her i may let her close with prayer comments tonight but you know what i respect her opinion she respects my opinion and we come together and i don't really know of very many things we've ever just ever disagreed on maybe chinese or mexican restaurants i i don't know if it goes much further than that because if you really are in love with god and you really are serving god and she's got the peace of god in her heart and i've got the peace of god in my our heart and we decided a long time ago in our young marriage that the most important thing in our lives was to know jesus christ and to raise our kids to know jesus we just our heartbeat thrives for that to raise our kids and now we've been blessed with grandchildren and we want to see what god is going to do with our grandchildren and it just keeps on going and going you got to have that defining moment in your life got to have that defining moment even in friendships and i end with this even in friendships even in friendships there will come defining moments to where it's so easy it is so easy to walk away it's easier to walk away than it is to forgive but can i tell you some of the most precious relationships that i currently have in my life some of the most precious i hope this is all right tonight i hope i i hope this is all right tonight some of the most precious voices in my life that are decades old male and female at times brother troy we didn't see eye to eye at times both of us stood and thought we were standing on what was right and we were standing for the betterment and even in our disagreements and not seeing eye to eye how we're still here tonight after decades is because when we came to the house of god we put our petty differences aside and we said our main thing in life is to love god with all of our heart soul mind and spirit do you know if you'll be honest with yourself some of the things years ago that you stood and gritted your teeth over you now laugh at yourself and the friendships are dear and the friendships are sweet because those friendships the easiest thing in the world the easiest thing in the world is just to walk away easiest thing in the world is just ignore they're out of my life buddy but can i tell you if you will just learn how to forgive and have a defining moment and just forgive them he said i don't know if i can do that you know what you just said a true statement you can't forgive them i just don't know if i can forgive you're exactly right you can't but if you will get in a relationship with god and the mixture of that god touching you god will be able to help you to say father just forgive them for they really know not what they do father forgive them and in the midst of that defining moments of friendships are developed the defining moments of friendships would you stand with me tonight i believe i'm finished at least i have come to the end of my notes god is so good god is so good sadie would you like to have a defining moment at 10 minutes till 9 tonight would anybody like to have a defining moment that you would just take a few moments you're not going to look over to the left or the right it doesn't matter if the boy beside me lifts it lifts his hands or not doesn't matter if the girl beside me the person beside you in front of you but could i give you as a pastor a few minutes to have a defining moment and just love god with everything that you have within you lord jesus i love you deep down in my soul deep down in my soul you give me joy deep down in my soul oh you give me joy god deep down in my soul god oh deep down in my soul lord you give me joy you give me peace god deep down in my soul oh god go ahead right now i know you're hearing me pray but would you lift up your voice and would you pray loud enough and would you worship loud enough oh mighty god mighty god mighty god mighty god oh deep
