god is so good aren't you thankful for what the lord has done you may be seated for a moment aren't you thankful for what the lord has done since we've been here this morning the presence of the lord has been so so rich and so real in this building the presence of god the presence of god some want an explanation some want an explanation for why we praise the way that we do but you never can explain praise because to explain praise you would have to explain a miracle and praise is not to be explained we dare not we dare not insult praise by comparing praise to a ball game because praise has nothing in common with what you hear at a ball game at a ball game you hear the voice of competitors but in church you hear the voices of the redeemed and i'm so thankful for the presence of the lord for the presence of the lord that has bathed our heart if you're here this morning and this is your first time to be at the first apostolic church we welcome you we are honored we are beyond honored at the fact that you could have chosen to be in a lot of different places worshiping this morning but you would choose to come to fac and worship god that is a tremendous compliment to this pastor and his family and this church family today we'd like to give you a small token of that of our thanksgiving by giving you what we refer to as an apostolic hand clap offering this morning thank you so much thank you so very very much like just to give you a little concentrated tablet of who you're with this morning you are among god's people some of the most loving caring sharing people that you would ever want to go to church with is seated very close to you on a pew and uh they're loving people i'll give you a little example of the love that's in this place um we have what's called staff meeting early prayer on sunday mornings starts somewhere around 9 25 and ends somewhere around 9 40. it's just the staff comes up around the altar and bows down and kneels down we begin to pray and ask god to help us well this morning this is kind of to share with you what kind of loving people are here this morning i came in and i was kneeling over here and and um praying and talking to god when i get up when i got up uh a dear sweet kind loving brother brother art schnitzer he said are you all right pastor you can see the concern in his face he said are you all right are you doing all right and i said sure brother brother senator why you asked he said well you kept asking god to touch your heart you kept asking god to move and touch your heart and he said the way you were praying he said i thought you were having some heart issues and i said no it's that old dirty heart that i've got said i'm working on that old dirty heart but see it kind of shows you that you're surrounded with people today that we don't care what you drive we don't care what your last name is and whether you would bring any kind of prestige to this congregation or not we care about you as a soul and uh there's not just one art schnitzer there's hundreds of art schnitzers around here today and we truly love you and truly care truly care about you before i read my text and man what a wonderful presence of god we felt what a wonderful presence of god that we felt the catholic church has done very well in teaching their members to revere and respect their places of worship my attention was called to this once when i was sitting on a park bench in front of a catholic church there was some little shops around and um i was sitting there this is carpenter was doing some shopping and i was sitting there on that park bench in front of that catholic church and i began to notice that as people that come by who were i would assume of the catholic faith they paused for a moment and did the sign that they do and uh yeah you know and uh i watched and i thought to myself and it wasn't just one it wasn't just one i counted several it stopped i mean they were walking some were carrying bags they'd sit their bag down at the door and look at the door and do the do the cross sign and i thought to myself as apostolic people i hope that i can teach and preach to where when you drive by this building or drive into the parking lot that some form of praise just kind of hits you and you would praise god for what goes on in this house for what goes on in this house i believe david did when he said i was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the lord i hope that i teach the value of god's house brother duane to the point that when you pass here and your eyes look upon this building you would say praise god there's the church house praise god there's the church house i want to state an absolute fact to you this morning and that is that good things begin in the house of god that's a fact if you're looking for a place for good things to begin truly only true good things begin in the house of god would you stand with me right now good things began in the house of god there is receiving in this place what makes this place special as you turn to genesis chapter 28 and verse number 10. just what makes this place special it's not the material that's been imported from france or italy or the holy land some sanctuaries can boast that they have marble and stone from jerusalem that's wonderful some can boast that they have stones imported from all around the world that's wonderful but the value of this house today is not in the material that's here the sheetrock was imported from home depot the carpet was imported from georgia there's nothing of material that makes this place special today what makes this place special today is that it was built exclusively for the worship of the one true god that's all that goes on here that's all we allow to go on here whatever goes on here must bring glory and honor to jesus christ it's not a place we hold political rallies it's not a place that we set up for bingo on friday night this is the house of god exclusively made for what's went on the past hour in this place because you hear me again i want to state a fact to you good things begin in the house of god genesis 28 and 10. and jacob went out from beersheba and went toward heroin and he lighted up on a certain place and tarried there all night because the sun was set he took the stones of that place and put them for his pillows and lay down in that place to sleep and he dreamed and behold a ladder set up on the earth and the top of it reached to heaven and the angels behold the angels of god ascending and descending on it and behold the lord stood above it and said i am the lord god of abraham thy father and the god of isaac the land we're on that we're on thou liest to thee will i give it into thy seed thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth and thou shalt spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed and behold i am with thee and will keep thee in all places whether thou goest and will bring thee again into this land for i will not leave thee until i have done that which i have spoken to thee of and jacob awaked out of his sleep and he said surely the lord is in this place and i knew it not and he was afraid and said how dreadful is this place this is none other but the house of god and this is the gate of heaven and jacob rose up early in the morning and took the stone that he had put for his pillows and set it for a pillar and poured oil upon the top of it and he called the name of that place beth l but the name of that city was called luz at the first and jacob vowed a vow saying if god will be with me and will keep me in this way that i go and will give me bread to eat and raiment to put on so that i come again to my father's house in peace then shall the lord be my god and this stone which i have set for a pillar shall be god's house and of all that thou shalt give me i will surely give the tenth unto thee put your bibles down father i love you this morning lord i ask you today to anoint me for the next few moments god as i teach and preach the value of your house today lord the value of gathering together in this place lord i ask you today god to anoint your servant i need the anointing of the holy ghost lord god i need you to touch my mind touch my lips that i may articulate your word that it would enter the ears and the hearts of those that are hearing today and that god this word would cause us to view your house in a different light lord the value of your house god i'll give you the praise and the honor and the glory in jesus name i pray amen now listen to me for just a moment before you're seated would you give god in reference to his house the best handclap offering you've given him all day long praise god praise god praise god for the house praise god for the house oh praise god for the house thank you for the house this morning you may be seated today my title is very simple today my title is simply good things good things good things in reference to my remarks good things begin in the house of god good things begin in the house of god jacob is alone jacob is afraid why is he alone and why is he afraid and why is he leaving his home to make over a 500-mile journey he is simply alone and afraid because there is trouble there is trouble now today i am not making any reference to anyone myself nor any particular family here today but there isn't any harder trouble than family trouble i know you're afraid to say amen um our police officer officers will tell you one of the dreaded calls that they make that they're called upon is domestic violence so volatile jacob is running because of family trouble his ways of scheming and deceiving has planted hatred and murder in his older brother esau's heart his older brother esau has done let it be known verbally that after our father isaac dies i will kill my brother jacob jacob knows that for survival he has to leave and make a 500 mile journey to safety but somewhere in between his man made plans the sun went down on him and the bible just simply says it was a certain place just a certain place he stumbled into this place and sun was setting and the bible says he took some stones of that place and made him a pillow i i did a little research on that this week and i've often thought that he took stones and made a pillow to lay his head but that's not what that means there it means he took some stones and made him a little covey he mounded up a little a pile of stones in the in the shape of a u and stacked them up and many travelers did this number one to hide themselves they didn't want to sleep out in the open field for robbers and the likes to come by and so they would just do their very best to protect themselves and they would put some stones and kind of make a u-shaped fence and stack it up just enough that they could lay down in the middle he stacked the stones and he lay down and a few moments sleep overtook him but no sooner had sleep overtaken him till jacob began to dream and in the dream it was an unusual dream he saw a letter now some have said that we should not view this ladder as a ladder that we think of an extension ladder or a stepladder that what jacob saw resembled more like a staircase a winding staircase and on this winding staircase he witnessed angel's messengers heavenly messengers coming down from heaven touching the earth and going back up no sooner had he seen that sight until he heard a voice that was god and the voice proclaimed i am the god of your father i am the god of your grandfather i am the god of abraham i am the god of isaac the lamb that you lay on i am going to give you this land i am going to bless your descendants and your descendants will be as the dust of the earth and in you jacob shall all the families of the earth be blessed and i will not leave you jacob i will not leave you jacob until i have performed all that i have said i see jacob jarred out of his sleep i see him setting straight up and he begins to comment surely the lord is in this place surely the lord is in this place and i knew it not i was unaware when i stumbled upon this certain place i was unaware that god was in this place and then he makes a statement that some of us misunderstand he said how dreadful is this place now dreadful in the bible days is not the same dreadful it is to us today dreadful to us today is something that's not pleasant something that we dread something that's not pleasant but in the bible days the word dreadful meant how awesome is this place how unbelievable is this place how how absolutely mind-boggling how absolutely awesome is this place this is none other but the house of god and it is the gate of heaven now again in studying this week i i begin to see some things in in research that that that you know like the pillar being really a fence that he built and now a gate and instead of seeing an entrance into something it's referring to the courts of justice the the this is the house of god and this is the gate thereof it has reference to a court or a place where justice is giving a place where wrongs are made right a place where everything gets laid out before a just and a holy god he said this is none other but the house of god and this is the gate to heaven this is the place where everything will be made right this is the place where god can rule over things this is the place where i'll get the justice that i need and then the bible says that jacob got up now watch this now and he took his man-made attempts at protection well friend let me stop here in the narrative of the story and tell you there's nobody that can fight for you like god if god can't keep you can i tell you let me just stop for a moment there's nobody that can fight for you like god so why don't you just rip up your plans today and why don't you just get a hold of your rocks that you made for your defense and say that was my man-made plans there but i'm going to take my man-made rocks and i'm going to stack them up and i'm going to make a pillar out of them i'm going to make a monument out of this and then i'm going to take something very costly something very expensive do you know that what jacob carried of great value was oil oil was of great value in the bible days so he takes the pile of rocks turns it into a pillar and takes oil and pours it out on the top of that pile of rocks and he makes a declaration he says god if you will be with me that's his presence and god if you will protect me that's his protection and god if you will give me raiment to put on and food to eat that's his provision let me tell you something friend there's something about god's house that good things begin in god's house every area of your life good things begin in this place he said god he said i'll make a vow to you if you'll be with me if you'll protect me if you'll provide for me food and raiment and if you'll bring me back to this place again that's god's ultimate plan then this shall be the house of god and of all that i take all that i make i will surely bring the tenth back to this place you see today this place is the place where good things begin jacob looked around bethel and he said this is the place of good things and he named it he named it beth l two words house god house of god it would be this bethel that jacob would be tethered to for the rest of his walk with jehovah just like you and i brothers and sisters today must always keep in mind the value of this house we have our bethel today and what makes this bethel today is not any material that was imported in but what makes this bethel today is surely the lord is in this place now to some of us today we change what we said and i knew it not that's what happened the first time we stumbled into a bethel that's what happened the first time we walked into a bethel we thought we were just coming to an ordinary house of worship a common house of worship millions of them that sprinkle that that sprinkle the the landscape of america just another church with just another steeple but it didn't take long for you to be in this place until you begin to say surely the lord is in this place there's something different about this place today there's something different i can't keep the tears from flowing down my face i i can't keep but feel like that there's a holy presence hovering over the top of me wanting permission to come in on the inside i've just got to say to you today welcome to the house of the living god surely the lord is in this place oh hallelujah he would leave bethel but he would forever be tethered to it he left bethel he left bethel as he made his way as as he made his way from from bethel as he made his way that 500 500-mile journey he meets the woman that'll steal his heart he meets his rachel he meets his leah he meets his new father-in-law laban he goes to work for laban some interesting things begin to happen things begin to change on the farm since jacob walked on the the ranch things began to happen the day that i hired jacob things began to happen corn started growing more wheat started growing more cattle and sheep started multiplying more and as a matter of fact one time jacob was wanting to leave his father-in-law and go back home and layman made a simple statement those of you that are reading your bible through you know that you read this this week jacob said i'd like to leave and laban said i don't want you to leave because i have learned by experience that god has blessed me because of you oh there's something about a trip to bethel there's something about a trip to bethel and not only it not only affects what we do in the confines of this building but if you're a true worshiper of god in the in bethel there's something about when you leave here today the people at the restaurant know there's something different about you your family it doesn't take long to live in bethel until your family members your lost family members begin to take notice there's something different about dad there's something different about mom there's something different i'll tell you what it is it's the god of bethel laban said i don't want you to leave but jacob knew that him and his father-in-law cut a deal and jacob said well i'll take all the solid cattle said you don't want me to leave said then let's let's divide things up said the solid the solid color animals are the few and father-in-law why don't you let me take the few and you take the speckled they're many you take the many you know laban said that's a deal well it was a deal because jacob later says to rachel your father has changed my wages 10 times he has changed my wages ten times because i told him i would take the i i tol i told him i would take the solid colored animals because they were few but it didn't take a year or two until they were more solid color than they were speckled well then your father-in-law your father changed it on me and said why don't you take the speckle i said all right i'll take the speckle and don't you know what happened they began to have more speckled than solid color see he's changed my wages he has changed my wages these ten times now i want you to i want you to understand something with me for a moment i want you to understand how that how that jacob makes a statement he makes a statement as he as he's going he's wanting to leave because his father-in-law is beginning to hate him it's interesting as we weave through this why'd you have to leave home jacob because esau hated me why are you having to leave here jacob my father-in-law hates me and my brother-in-law's hate me why they hate you because you have more cattle than your own father you walked on the farm and now you own more shares in the farm than laban has and they're they're hating they're hating you they're hating you because of because of this they they they they hate you because and jacob is trying to explain jacob is trying to explain to his wives he's trying to explain to them what has happened and he's telling them the reason he's telling them the reason that he is that he is leaving and if you would turn to i believe it is genesis 31 and verse number um five jacob's trying to talk to rachel and leah because he's trying to tell him we have to leave here there's trouble here he said unto them i see your father's countenance that it is not toward me as before but the god of my father hath been with me you know that with all my power i have served your father your father had deceived me and changed my wages ten times but god suffered him not to hurt me if if he said thus the speckled shall be thy wages then all the cattle bear speckled and if he said thus the ring straight be the higher then they bear all the cattle ring straight thus hath god taken away the cattle of your father and given them to me and it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived that i lifted up mine eyes and saw in a dream watch this now jacob is having mom-in-law he's having his second dream now his first dream that he had was about the house of god this is none other than the house of god his first dream is about the house of god the value of the house of god but watch his second dream that i lifted up mine eyes and saw in a dream and behold the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringed straight speckled and grizzled and the angel of god said unto me in a dream saying jacob and i said here am i and he said lift up thine eyes and see all the rams which leap upon the cattle are ringed straight speckled and grizzled for i have seen all that laban doeth unto thee i am the god of bethel now i've got to stop right there for a moment but because because some of us have financial dreams first before we have god dreams there's nothing wrong with having financial dreams there's nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself financially there's nothing wrong with that and it's a little quiet but every one of you ought to say amen there's nothing wrong with wanting to prosper financially but just don't have that dream first don't have that dream first if you have the dream of financial success before you have the dream of spiritual success you will never reach your financial success but if you can dream about the value of god's house and know that there's not a wage there's not a retirement there's not an amount of money or a brick of gold that can take the place of the house of god as long as you keep the house of god first and foremost in your life then brother step on out and begin to dream the dreams of financial prosperity oh i think you ought to give the lord a hand for that well brother carpenter there is nothing wrong with a young man marrying a young woman and wanting to provide better for her there's nothing wrong with a mom and dad having children and wanting to provide the very best for them there is nothing wrong with that only unless you have that dream first before you have the dream of spiritual success he said it was god that showed me how to choose the cattle see i was dreaming it was god that showed me how to choose this one and how to choose that one and then when he changed my wages ten times it was the god that spoke to me in verse 13 and said i am the god of bethel where thou anointest the pillar and where thou vowels to vow unto me now arise get thee from this land and return into the land you see there are certain things that happen in this house today that long after we forget them god still remembers them i am glad today to preach to you a god that has not forgotten one act of worship you have ever committed i know it blows our mind today i know that it absolutely blows our mind today how far god how far god could go back how far that how far that god could go back and i'll tell you something friend a little little personal story here but when i graduated from high school in 1979 because of the death of my father in 1979 because of the death of my father my brother and i our family got a social security check until we graduated from high school well we graduated in june and uh i failed i didn't do it dishonestly i didn't i did it wasn't dishonest so nobody judged me today i just i failed i don't know if i didn't know i don't know i just know i didn't do it dishonestly but they sent me in 1979 they sent me a check a monthly check that they should not have sent me they sent me one monthly check i think 158 dollars was the amount that it was almost 40 years later my sister who bought the home place gets a letter in the mail almost 40 years later from the irs with her baby brother's name on it she calls said i've got a letter up here from the irs with your name on it well sister carpenter took the letter and called the irs and guess what they said they said almost 40 years ago we sent you one too many checks and we want it back huh with interest that's right with interest the one yeah that's right good of yrs i'm so glad i served the g.o.d huh the good ol irs and i think it was something like 800 and something dollars and then they put a little side note should i choose not to pay it your first social security check you get we will withhold that amount from that check i paid it but think about that if man can come up with a machine that can keep track of a boy getting one too many checks and call his hand on him 40 years later i'm telling you the first time you said i love you jesus he recorded that the first time that you walked into the house of god and said i'm going to make a habit of coming to bethel i'm going to make it a habit i i'm going to prioritize my time there's no better time that is spent like spending time in the house of god hey did i tell you today that good things begin here in the house of god i wish somebody say good things good things begin here think about that old crumpled up dollars that you put through in the offering as teenage kids god still has a record of it tears that you shed as you were single around an altar asking god to use you the tears are just as fresh in god's mind as they were at the youth camp that you shed them in god keeps a track we'll dream god dreams we can dream our dreams later he said i want you to go back to beth and watch how bethel plays a role in this well as jacob is making his way back to bethel with his family he camped down at a certain spot and a young man by the name of shechem a hivite a heathen pagan man saw jacob's daughter dinah the bible says he raped her but he not only raped her to add insult to injury he wanted to take her to marriage he sends word he has his father who's a prince in words my son wants to marry my son wants to marry your daughter dinah jacob waits the boys come in from the field his sons come in from the field and the sons hear the word shechem has taken our daughter had a relationship with her has raped her and now he wants to take her for marriage and the boy's anger boiled two of the boys simeon and levi begin to scheme simeon and levi begin to whisper her father jacob let's heal that he tell the himbite king that we will allow our daughter our sister dinah to marry shechem we will allow this on the conditions that we circumcise that every male in their camp be circumcised they counted the cost and the king and his son agreed that every male would be circumcised levi and simming simeon had no plans of becoming one people they knew that now that they had been circumcised they were without the ability to fight they were without the ability to be strong and on the third day simeon and levi walked through their camp just two men and they took the sword and they killed every high bite in the land word came back to jacob word came back to jacob and this is what jacob said in genesis 34 30. and jacob said unto simeon and levi you have troubled me to make me stink among the inhabitants of the land and among the canaanites and the parasites and i being few in number they shall gather themselves together against me and slay me i shall be destroyed i in my house and they said should he deal with our sister as with the harlot now listen follow this please jacob why did you leave your home trouble jacob why did you leave your father-in-law's ranch trouble jacob why are you leaving because i stink among the inhabitants don't you know that when word gets out to the other communities that this is the way we do battle we stink among these people it was wrong what you did but the bible tells us in just the next chapter 35 and 1 and please keep in mind that because we go to a different chapter does it mean that we go to a different subject jacob stinks he has a bad reputation and god said unto jacob arise and go up to bethel and dwell there and make there an altar unto god that appeared unto thee when thou fled us from the face of esau thy brother oh friend can i tell you today that if you will bring your trouble back to bethel i beg you today i plead with you today your answer is not in the world your answer is in bethel what you need to even the score today is not in the world it is in the house of god there is a value here today church he is the great heart mender he is the great one that can reconcile relationships he can bring peace where peace isn't possible any other place but you've got to recognize that good things begin in the house of god good things begin in bethel would you give the lord a hand of praise good things begin oh i want to preach it until you get the faith to believe it you have no answer in the world there is no solution in the world young people today let your plans be in the house of god if you're ever going to make anything of your life it's going to be because you are in bethel universities can give you an education but universities cannot give you the plan that bethel can god can make something out of you don't believe that you're trash don't believe that you're second class get you a place in bethel live in bethel dwell in bethel worship in bethel pray in bethel live in bethel work in bethel mary in bethel bethel bethel bethel something about the house of god oh there's something about the house of god here today there's something about the house of god today what makes the house of god special we have to kind of put some things together from the old testament but we are told the house of god has an altar and we are told in exodus chapter 20 verse number 24 in the old testament an altar of earth shalt thou make unto me sacrifice thereof i burn offerings and thy peace offerings thy sheep and that oxen in all places where i record my name can i tell you something he records his name in this house he records his name in this place would you like for me to tell you when that happens thought you would never ask me i'll tell you when that happens when you decide to be baptized in the name of the lord jesus christ there is a divine recording of the name of jesus that's upon you that's where you go from being any other dot in the billions of humanity to being god's special person when that man says i now indeed baptize you in the name of the lord jesus christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the holy ghost and you go under that water you better know something right now in this house is where his name is recorded upon you not only not only is this house special today not only is this house special today because god's name is recorded here in the second book of chronicles chapter 7 and verse number 13. he says if i shut up heaven that there be no rain or if i command the locust to devour the land if i send pestilence among my people if my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray seek my face turn from their wicked ways then will i hear from heaven i will forgive their sin i will hear their land watch verse 15 closely please now mine eye shall be opened and my ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place for i have chosen and sanctified this house that my name may be there and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually he's talking about solomon's temple but we have the solomon's temple here today we have the new testament house of god we have a place that we have built like solomon built and we have a place that we gather for our corporate worship as commanded in the word of god we are commanded in the word of god now let me just stop right here i don't want to give much time for this are you saying that we can only pray in the church no are you saying that we can only worship in the church no are you saying we can only read our bible in the church we can only hear preaching in the church no but what i am saying that almighty god in his word has designed a corporate gathering of people and it's called the house of god bethel i like praying by myself but friend i also like to pray in a corporate gathering for one can put a thousand to flight but two can put ten thousand to flight i thank god today for this place this 1331 william blunt drive this house of god today these drums these pianists these instruments that we can make a joyful noise unto the lord it is my bethel oh my god it is my bethel today here's my bethel today and what i've done you've done for the last little bit in this house god's eye has been upon it and god's ear has been upon it because good things good things happen good things happen in the house of god very quickly musicians would you come but very quickly watch me i want to hold your attention spellbound for the next five minutes please the old testament has types that are fulfilled in the new testament old testament has types that are fulfilled in the new testament the prophet ezekiel walked up to the house of god our bethel he walked up to the house of god and he noticed water coming out of the door of the house of god on the right side from the altar he noticed water was coming out now you must understand in ezekiel's time water meant life water was their lifeline they had to have water to have life no water no life water life they had to have water water was very viewed as life and now the prophet ezekiel looks and from underneath the door in the house of god water begins to issue water begins to run and he started to follow the track of water he started to follow it for about almost a quarter mile almost for a quarter mile the water was ankle deep but he noticed there was a man measuring there was an angel measuring and let me tell you something friend don't make a visit to bethel you can't measure growth by visit you only measure growth by a consistent walk don't come to church for two weeks and then get discouraged because things didn't turn around the man had a measuring rod and he measured out about a quarter of a mile and ezekiel started following him and ankle deep water and when he got to the end of the quarter mile the angel said i want to measure some more and the angel measured another quarter mile but as he walked that second quarter mile the water came up to around his loins and he walked a quarter of a mile with water around his loins and then the angel said let me measure another quarter mile and he measured another quarter mile and he said there was waters that i could not pass over you could swim in it it was getting deeper as it flowed from from bethel now what i'm trying to tell you today is what we get in this place will bring life to our community we don't need a better community to make a better church that's not how it works it's not a better state better community better church it's a better church we'll make a better community we walk out of the church but the more we go the deeper it gets because everywhere we go is life oh watch this watch this what's this oh oh watch his witches and then ezekiel said the man doing the measuring said watch this water that comes from the temple door is going to hit the dead sea and when the water when the water when the water that hits the temple door when the water that comes from the temple door flows and hits the dead sea the dead sea explodes in life and says there's life everywhere let me give you a little analogy let me give you a little analogy of this penny carpenter got the water because remember what jesus said jesus said if you'll believe upon me as the scripture has said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water this specie of the holy ghost reputation can any good thing come out of nazareth he said i'm going to go back to nazareth and i'm going to open up the book and i'm going to say the spirit of god is upon me i'm not one of these
