The Company That Stayed Together

  • The company returned to Jerusalem from the mount and went up into the upper room together.
  • They all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, the women and the brethren praying together.
  • Unity was the posture of the church while it waited for the promise.

Scriptures: Acts 1:12-14

One Language, Scattered

  • The whole earth was of one language and one speech as the people journeyed from the east and settled in a plain.
  • Their oneness was aimed at building a city and a tower and making themselves a name.
  • God saw that nothing they imagined would be restrained from them, and confounded their language.

Scriptures: Genesis 11:1-6

One Accord in One Place

  • When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
  • The first church continued daily with one accord in the temple and broke bread from house to house.
  • Praising God and having favour with the people, they saw the Lord add to the church daily.

Scriptures: Acts 2:1; Acts 2:46-47

Boldness, Unity, and Signs Follow

  • Hearing the threats against them, the believers lifted up their voice to God with one accord: Lord, thou art God.
  • The multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul, and great grace was upon them all.
  • With great power the apostles gave witness of the resurrection, signs and wonders were done among the people, and believers were added to the Lord.

I'm just gonna read you a passage of scripture Acts chapter 1 and verse number 12 Acts chapter 1 and verse number 12. then they then return they into Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet which is from Jerusalem a Sabbath Day's Journey and when they were come in they went up into an upper room we're Abode both Peter and James and John and Andrew Philip Thomas Bartholomew Matthew James the son of alphaeus Simon zealots Judas the brother of James these are why don't we read verse 14 together these all continued with one Accord in prayer and supplication with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his Brethren I want to Simply talk to us tonight that we are a body we are one body and we must always stay Unified the only way that hell will ever defeat you as a person hell will ever defeat you as a family and hell will ever defeat us as a church if we lose our Unity we are one body father I love you tonight I ask you for the next few moments that you would anoint the lips of clay that I may speak your word that God that we may understand the value of unity in Jesus mighty name we pray amen and amen you may be seated and if someone will be so kind is to close those back doors while they're quoting scripture out there in the lobby Unity is a powerful thing Unity is a very powerful thing Unity is so powerful that even if it is not God focused even when Unity is not God focused Unity is a powerful thing it was the will of God for man to spread abroad upon the Earth and to populate and to populate the Earth but man decided in the 11th chapter of Genesis man decided that he would have his will and not God's will the Bible says in Genesis 11 and 1 the whole earth was of one language and of one speech it came to pass as they journeyed from the East that they found a plane in the land of sayonor and they dwelt there follow this closely with me and they said one to another and they said one to another if we're going to keep Unity we've got to talk to each other and they said one to another go to let us make brick burn them thoroughly they had brick for stone and slime had they for Mortar and they said look at the unity and they said go to let us build us a city and a tower whose top May reach into heaven and let us make us a name lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth now don't ever believe that because it's not not God's will that it can't get done Unity is a powerful thing they said we're going to build us a city and us a tower whose top May reach to Heaven it was not God's will but it was certainly the will of man it was so powerful it was so powerful that look at verse number look at verse number five and the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built and the Lord said behold the people is what one and they have all one language and this they begin to do and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do don't ever believe it because it's not God's will that it can't grow if man sets his mind to it Unity is such a powerful thing that when man sets their mind to something they will accomplish it and God knew that man would stay right where he was at and not fulfill the will of populating the earth and God had to go down and there God confounded their language you know that communication is the Kingpin to Unity it's it's the connector of unity and God knew exactly God knew exactly where to attack man that would take their Unity away and and that attack that attack was their speech he divided their language there that they did not understand one another and thus they left off to build the building and they went not willingly but they went and they finished they did what God's will was on the day of Pentecost the Bible says that early Church of which you and I are an extension of that they gather together in verse 14 of chapter 1. they all continued with one Accord in prayer one Accord Unity and supplication it's no wonder that we now have Acts chapter 2 and verse number one and when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one Accord they were in one Accord one frame of mind and in one place and the Holy Ghost came I tell you all something tonight that you already know but maybe we need to be reminded and reminded and reminded we need the Holy Ghost we need the Holy Ghost there are some things in this life you will never make it through without the Holy Ghost you need the Holy Ghost now I need the Holy Ghost and the Holy Ghost the Holy Ghost came Acts chapter 2 and verse number 46 Acts 2 and 46. and they continuing daily with one Accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart praising God and having favor with all the people and the Lord added unto the church daily such as should be saved even after the Holy Ghost came they got in one Accord they got in they got in one Accord they got in one Accord and the Holy Ghost came you hear me they got in one Accord and the Holy Ghost came but just because we got in one Accord last week does it mean that we don't need to get in one Accord tonight we have to stay in one Accord we have to stay in one frame of unity in one frame of mind and it says Acts 2 46 and they continuing daily with one Accord in the temple breaking bread from house to house that eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart can I tell you getting in one Accord with other believers will put joy in your heart it'll put gladness in your heart contentment contentment in your heart well let's follow this let's follow this through in Acts chapter 4 in Acts chapter 4 and verse number 24. the church faces some persecution you see one Accord is just not needed to have the Holy Ghost baptize us but being in unity is what we need when the enemy attacks us individually or the enemy attacks our marriage anybody ever had the enemy attack your children we need to be in unity when the enemy comes in the enemy here in Acts chapter 4 the enemy attacked the church and uh they went to a prayer meeting and in Acts 4 24 it says and when they heard that they lifted up their voice to God with one Accord they were praying in one Accord and said Lord Thou Art God which hath made Heaven and Earth and the Sea and all that in them is you know in the midst of your attack you need to remember who God is in the midst of your attack you need to get in church you need to stay around church and you need to be reminded of who God is God has never been defeated God has never been put to shame they start their prayer off by God you made the heavens and God you made the sea and all that in them is going down to verse 32. and the multitude of them that believed we're of one heart and of of one heart and of one Soul neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his but they had all things common and with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and greats Grace strength was upon them these people were not materialistic they were not a materialistic people they did not gauge their self-worth by their material things and neither should we in Christ Jesus there's neither Bond nor free there's another rich or poor what gives you yourself value tonight is not material things what gives you your self-value is your god who you belong to who you belong to Acts chapter 5 verse number 12. and by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people and they were all with one Accord in Solomon's porch and of the rest there's no man join himself to them but the people magnified them and Believers were the more added to the Lord multitudes both men and women you know tonight the greatest Evangelistic tool we have in our church service is not necessarily an Evangelistic preacher do you know the greatest Evangelistic pool in the church is the unity of the church now think about it now the unity of the church think about how a person would feel if they come in here and every believer is worshiping God The Sinner or the prodigal is going to look around and be touched because he's he or she sees the unity the unity of the church the unity of the church can't we see the connection here throughout the Book of Acts that any time you found the church unified you found the power of God falling any time you found the church Unified you not only found the power of God falling but you found the church being added to people started joining the church they started coming in when they witnessed when they witnessed the unity of the church let's be Unified as never before let's be unified let's be in one frame of mind we've come to church to worship Jesus we have come to church because he has been good to us we have come to church because Jesus is on our mind when you're a true child of God you keep Jesus on you listen he's not a thought or two away if you're really a child of God your goal is to make it to Heaven that's my goal I want to make it to heaven but my assignment on Earth is the witness to everybody that I can and get them ready there's a judgment day coming and our assignment on this Earth is to help get them ready the greatest Evangelistic two we have you'll see it connected all through the book of Acts the unity of the church the unity of the church we are likened to we are likened to a body in the Bible we're likened to a physical body in the Bible the church is likened to a body and the church says that when one member suffers the whole body suffers and when one member is honored the whole body is honored you see tonight you need to concern yourself if you can only rejoice when you are honored or you can only feel pain when you have pain it may be an indication you're not connected to the body but if you're connected to the body You Weep with them that weep and you rejoice with them that Rejoice because you are connected to the body now here's where I need we had we had an altar working seminar an hour before church started and um we're gearing up for a great harvest in our altars and we're getting things situated to pray a lot of people through to the Holy Ghost and I'm going to tell you something tonight the power of God that was in this place tonight if it had been 50 people here that wanted the Holy Ghost 50 people would have got the Holy Ghost tonight we want to put the net in place now We Gather in one place we strive in prayer to be in the same Spirit that's why we have pre-service prayer we sing along and worship Alone Together we listen to the word of God together but here's where I need this here's where this pastor slash teacher slash evangelist needs your help you can help me but not only me but you can help a sinner and a prodigal come down to the place to where they need to be and here's how you do it on Sunday or Sunday night or Wednesday night when Pastor gives an altar call and says let's all Gather in the altar if you're physically able to walk you ought to make an effort to get out of your pew and come down to the altar you know what it may help if that sinner is standing back there and he's standing back there with a bunch of you and none of you move he may look around and say well this is just normal but just what if everybody starts coming down to the Altar and The Sinner starts saying well what about if they start coming down to the Altar and somebody gives a polite now don't we I don't believe in pulling people down to the I know I know there may be exceptions of people oh stand up I'm 20 I'm 25 seconds a liar stand up right now stand up stand up what would it be what would it be who who'll give me two more minutes would you raise your hand if you give me two minutes two four six eight ten I don't I don't need that um I don't believe in pulling people to the all I know that there might be an exception of I felt led to go back and get so and so I I understand how that is but I have seen that horribly abused I've seen them just go back and and embarrass him and and sometimes they'll come to the altar but they never come back to church but I have seen people that if you just gave a polite would you like to go with me would you like to go would you like to go with me and I saw your that's all you're asking would you would you like would you like to go with me I've seen people come out of their Pew and come down and kind of get acclimated around the Altar and get the use get the get the feel of it Church we've got a great Revival that's coming and I know that God's going to do Great and Mighty things I kept you a minute and a half over um you can be a minute and a half late for prayer Sunday morning God bless you dismiss in Jesus name
