Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The text: against hope believed in hope

  • Every message heard from this pulpit on Sunday morning in the month of August will have one main theme: hope, hope, hope.
  • As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations — before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
  • Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be — in another translation, even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping, believing that he would become the father of many nations.
  • There are no major and minor doctrines in the Bible: allow him a few moments to introduce the doctrine of hope.

Scriptures: Romans 4:17-18

Hope is a cable

  • In general, hope is a feeling of expectation that life can get better — a billion-dollar industry of positive thinking and life coaches trades on it — but biblical hope is a different thing: a confident expectation based on the promises and character of God.
  • The Hebrew word for hope means a cord, a cable, a rope that is stretched out, indicating a strong and secure expectation that holds something in place.
  • He tells of the navy's hurricane hawsers, ropes so strong under strain that the sailors say they sing, and of the arresting cable stretched across a carrier's deck that catches a landing jet: God has given us a cable called hope, to catch us before we plunge our lives into the pit of hell.
  • Paul and Silas were stretched as far as they could be stretched in that prison, but at midnight they began to pray and sing praises unto God — this biblical hope causes us, under the greatest pressure, to have a song.

Followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises

  • That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises — this is why the church values and prizes its elders: a sixteen-year-old can promise to serve God all his life, but give him somebody in their eighties who did it through bad reports and cemeteries and kept their hand in the unchanging hand of God.
  • For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee — and so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
  • That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us — Jesus is our city of refuge, and he is as close as the mention of his name.
  • Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil, whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus: an anchor you can see is not working — ours goes up, not down, and it is ever pulling us toward him.

Scriptures: Hebrews 6:12-20

God does his work in graveyards

  • Elisha the prophet had died and been buried; years later a dead man was thrown in haste into his open grave, and when his body touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood upright — it was not the bones that did it; it was the all-powerful hand of almighty God.
  • God told Ezekiel to step out into a valley full of dry, bleached bones and prophesy to them — preach to people who are saying to one another, we have no hope.
  • Then said he unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts — therefore prophesy: Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live.

Scriptures: 2 Kings 13; Ezekiel 37:11-14

A door of hope in the valley of trouble

  • Israel would be in Babylon seventy years; the false prophets could only give false hope, saying they would be back in Jerusalem in a few months — but Jeremiah said to marry wives, raise children, build houses, and plant vineyards, for God knows the thoughts that he thinks toward them: not thoughts of destruction, but thoughts of hope, to give them an expected end.
  • Achan disobeyed God and was stoned in the valley of acor — the valley of trouble; but years later God promised a backslidden Israel: I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her, and I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of acor for a door of hope.
  • Only God can take an ugly situation and open a door of hope in it: you do not have to live in trouble any longer — today can be the first day of a life of hope.

well if you have your Bibles this morning you don't have your Bibles you can turn your attention to the stram Romans chap 4 verse number 17 and 18 I want to welcome you to what I have called hope in the month of August hope in the month of August every message you will hear in the month of August August on Sunday morning from this pull pit will have a main theme hope hope hope Romans 4 And1 17 as it is written I have made the a father of many nations before him whom he believed even God who quickeneth the dead means to bring back to life and calleth those things which be not as though they were who against hope believed in hope that he might become the father of many nations according to that which was spoken so shall thy seed be let me read from the um NLT version I very I very seldom stray from the kjb um but sometimes a different translation brings a verse more to like to us Romans 4 and8 that I just read who against hope believe in hope this translation says even when there was no reason for hope Abraham kept hoping believing that he would become the father of many nations for God had said to him that's how many descendants you will have for a few moments today I want to minister on this subject hope in the month of August would you help me pray right now father as we have brought praise and glory to you your name God as we have praised you with musical instruments as the choir Lord has lavished the Praises of their voices and Blended their voices God lord as we have exercised God energy here today and giving you hand clap offering and raised our hands Lord as we have brought our first fruits Lord into this place today now father We Stand waiting to hear from your word for it is only by your word that our lives are Chang change it's only by Your Word Lord that you communicate with us Lord I'll give you praise and honor for what you're going to do through your word this morning in jesus' name we pray amen amen thank you for standing in honor of the reading of God's word allow me a few moments to introduce the doctrine of Hope the doctrine of Hope isn't it interesting that we take major major things of the Bible and we make them a Doctrine we'll say well this is our Doctrine this is our Apostolic Doctrine here but do you know that if it's in the Bible it is a Doctrine that's just as important as every other doctrine that is in the Bible there is no major and minor uh uh doctrines in the Bible there's no doctrines that are more important than than others now there are doctrines that need to be placed properly in order that we build upon them but they are all doctrines they are all things that we need to cut into and dissect and see exactly what the word of the Lord is saying so allow me to introduce to you today the doctrine of hope hope is a concept that is deeply rooted in The Human Experience and has both a general and a Biblical understanding now when we refer to there is a general hope and then there is a Biblical hope we do understand that by the creation of God barring salvation push salvation out of the picture you don't have to be a Christian you don't have to even believe in God humanity is made to Hope humanity is made to hope they are made to Hope Humanity's hope is one thing but biblical hope is a total different thing we can talk about the hope that Humanity has we can talk about the hope that the Bible gives us and I believe you'll see the difference here in general this hope refers to a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain outcome or future event in other words um it is a positive it's optimistic attitude that looks forward to something better or the resolution to a difficult situation in other words people just want life to get better they just want life to get better they want to come out of their dilemma they want to come out of situation they they're they're hoping that there can be a resolution they're hoping that somehow some way this can work out for good we have a billion dollar industry today uh positive mental attitude or or or thinking or life CH coaches that's a that's a major business today of getting a life coach into your life and uh they begin to pump your mindful that you only think positive thoughts and you only you only expect good outcomes and you only expect this to happen and that to happen and that's well and good in its own place but the Bible doctrine of Hope is much better in the Bible hope is a central theme that is closely tied to our faith and our trust in God anybody believe in him this morning I believe you do I believe your Works prove it today I don't believe you'd be here today if you didn't believe there's a God now how many of us trust that God trust him I trust him that's that's why we connected in the spirit when we be when they begin to sing there's never been a day never been a m minute never been a moment you weren't in it that's why we connected with that because we all were thinking about times we went through things and then we look back our rearview mirror really shows up some handy work of God does it not the rear viw mirror of life really shows us some things going on and we look back and we begin to praise God there's never been a day never been a moment I see my daughter laughing a little bit I'm probably not saying the words right but that's all right I'm pastor I can write those words right the Bible hope is a c Central them that is closely tied to our faith and our trust in God it is not merely wishful thinking or vague optimism but a competent expectation based on the promises and character of God the Hebrew word for Hope is TI iqv ah h i just better spell it than try to pronounce it all right which this Hebrew word for Hope simply means a cord a cord cable or rope that is stretched out indicating a strong and secure expectation now a worldly hope says it has to work out the way that I want it to work out but God's hope which is the best hope allows faith and trust to say God you see tomorrow I don't you work it out according to your perfect will and I accept what you bring me I did a little research when I found out that the word hope simply is like a rope or a cable that connects something and that holds it secure that's if you really want to get to the root of that word it it's it's a rope or a cable that is attached to something that's holding it that's holding it in place it's holding it in place I studied and I found that in the Navy there are special ropes called hurricane housers and uh I sense some pictures in they may put them on the screen but in the Navy they have special ropes called hurricane housers that are designed to keep the ship to the dock or Pier even in the event of a hurricane even in the event of a hurricane these ropes are expected to stretch to half their half their diameter half the size of their diameter during the pulling during the pulling uh they may they may be three Ines in diameter but when they go under stress they can go down to an inch and a half in in in diameter they are so strong I I researched these ropes are so strong that they would cause the ship to heal over or or lean over rather than break during title changes in other words they have to monitor the ropes because when the tide changes they have to monitor those ropes because if it stayed in one place it would literally topple the boat or turn the boat over these ropes that we're referring to today they are called they are they they are called housers they're called the these ropes that hold that are that are there um as a matter of fact when they get pulled and I think you're going to know where I'm going when they get pulled and get under stress the sailors know that they're under stress because they get pulled so tight some of you musicians that play instruments with strings these ropes get pulled so tight that the sailors will say will say they're really under stress can you hear them sing can you hear them sing so when those ropes get under Str rest they literally begin to make a noise and the sailors refer to it as the ropes that are singing can I tell you that God can give you a hope that in the midst of the greatest stress and pressure and disappointment of your life you don't know why and people around you don't know why but you find yourself with your hand God anybody in here God ever just gave you a song in the middle of the day anybody in here ever really been going through life and all of a sudden you just have a song drop on your lips and you just begin to sing that song well I can tell you how biblical that is you can't stretch Paul and silus anymore than they were stretched you can't stretch them out in that that prison that night anym than they've been stretched out but the Bible says that at midnight Paul and Silas began to pray and sing praises unto God you see this biblical uh hope that we have this biblical hope that we have causes us when we get under pressure causes us to have a song and have Security in our lives uh you may notice if you watch a jet fighter land on the deck of these ships out in the ocean you know that they have a very limited run Runway there that that ship that's out there very limited Runway you often wonder how in the world can they land those Jets on that ship it's very simple if you'll just notice with me that jet has an arm that comes down with a hook on it has an arm that comes down with a hook on it and just as the right moment when that jet touches down they have a they have a cable that is stret to cross that ship and that hook will catch hold of that cable and that cable will slow that jet down and keep it on the deck of that but they got they got to make a quick decision for if somehow that that that arm doesn't come down and catch that cable they abort the system he throttles up and takes that Jet Plane off of that the deck of that because there's not enough Runway there on the deck of that ship to stop to stop that plane uh I I also said also studied that it's the most expensive Cable in the world it's the most expensive Cable in the world a coil of this cable is over $8 million for the coil it's so it's it's so uh intricately uh made that it's it's over $8 million it well it's it's got to be strong right it's got to be strong because $8 million uh those jet fighters are worth many times more than that $8 million cable that stretched across there can I tell you today that God has given us a cable called hope God has given you and I a cable called hope and don't you know how valuable we are you if if if if you ever in life begin to wonder your value and and of course if you're left all by yourself you'll have a very low self-esteem you'll have a low very value of yourself but when you begin to think about how valuable humanity is that our God our creator Our God and our creator would leave heaven and robe himself in flesh and come down here in 33 and A2 years walk among his creation for one purpose and one purpose alone it wasn't to heal he was healing in the Old Testament it wasn't to do some kind kind of Miracle with water he was doing that in the Old Testament but he came here to this Earth for one reason and one reason only to create a hope cable that could catch you and I before we plunge Our Lives into that pit of Hell and I just want to tell him today I'm glad I'm thankful for that cable called for that cable called hope would you give him some praise right now our Biblical hope is great founded in the belief that God is faithful and will fulfill his promises God is faithful and God will fulfill his promises I want to say that again God is faithful as a matter of fact God is the only one you ought to put your trust and faith in you put your trust and faith in man and you can get disappointed you put your faith and trust in people and I'm here to tell you something today people let you down and we're never intended you nor I were intended to have each other's faith we need to have each other's prayer but we don't need to have each other's Faith because we're flesh and we could falter and we could fail and when we falter and fail if my faith is in you and you fall guess what I do I fall right along beside you but our faith should only be in one and that is God because he is Fai faithful he has never failed he has never faltered his ways are perfect he has never made a mistake he has he has never done something that he made a mistake and he failed he falter he never has made one promise to you and I in this holy book called The Bible he's never made one promise to you and I in this book that he has not time after time fulfilled every promise in this book I'm here to tell you today as a representative of Jesus Christ and a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ you can build your life on him you can build your life on him and it'll be the best life you've ever you've ever lived if you will build your life biblical hope is grounded in the belief that God is faithful and will fulfill his promise it is not dependent on circumstances or human efforts but on the unchanging nature of God has God ever has God always answered every prayer you've prayed no well let me let me correct myself yes has God answered every prayer the way that I wanted him to no no were you disappointed can we be honest with each other today were you disappointed yes any of you ever found yourself in your time of prayer looking more like you pulled up at Sonic and pushed the button and you're telling God exactly how he ought to do his work God God hold the lettuce hold the ketchup special orders don't upset us you know I mean come on God if you do this God God if you do that God you just do this God you know I prayed prayers that they get answered the way that I I thought they should I prayed a prayer for sister doson to be healed I prayed a prayer for kieren BL Branson to be healed I pray prayers for many of you many of your loved ones that are not here today I prayed prayers for Sarah Nami brother Namy good to have you back home doing a tremendous work in the Philippines for the glory of God he has one of the most professional Bible schools that I've ever seen in I was going to say Pentecost but at any cost one of the most professional things you'll ever see is graduating those students in in the Philippines but you know prayers have not always got answered the way that I wanted them to get answered but you can't lose out with God you can't stop serving God well I'll come to church as long as I think there's some hope for my marriage but if it just tanks I'm gone well you had your faith in your marriage and not in your God because if you'll learn how to put your faith in your God I said put your faith in your God you'll find out that God knows far better than any of us all of us put together God's ways God's ways are perfect but true faith is built on the unchanging nature of God this hope is O often expressed in the context of difficult or challenging situations where individuals Place their trust in God's deliverance and restoration God you're going to work it out God you're going to work this out I don't know how and I don't know when and I don't know where but God your word says that you will work all things together for the good to them who are called according to your purpose I don't know why you wouldn't want to build your life on that I don't know why any of us today would have any issue not wanting to build our lives on this hope turn with me to the book of Hebrews chapter 6 and verse number 12 the book of Hebrews chapter 6 and verse number 12 and I'm gonna tell you another reason why God ordained for us to have a corporate Gathering a corporate Gathering of the church all right th this is another reason God loves for us to come together Hebrews 6 and12 that ye that ye be not slothful it means lazy that means not active that you be not slothful but followers of them who through faith and patience in inherit the promises he said don't be inactive don't be slothful uh but be followers of them be followers of them who through faith and patience have inherited the promises you see that's why church we value and prize our elders of First Apostolic church because they are a living breathing walking testimony of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ you see young person you can get it strong tower and and I know you mean it I know you're sincere but you can get there's an 18y old boy or a 16- year old girl and you can say God I'm going to serve you all my life I'm going to serve you all my life but really all it is is words good intentions but the true test comes when you're going through things that don't work out the way you want it to work out are we still going to hold on to God one reason we prize our elders here at this church our older people the reason we prize them a 16y old boy or girl can say God I'll follow you all the days of my life but give me somebody in their 80s that did serve God for many many decades and when you look at them you know they've had some some things happen in their life they've walked by some cemeteries they've got some bad doctor reports they've watched life not be everything that they wanted it to be but they've kept their hand in the unchanging hand of the almighty God and and that's why that's why I'm going to follow them that's why I love my peers in the ministry and brother Nam if I could say one thing about training Ministry and young ministers at this if I had one and I probably did have just at least one good trade as a young minister is I was always fascinated by the older men was always fascinated by the older preachers oh those older preachers I mean to tell you they could really they could they could really tell you some things they could really speak some things into your life I love my peers I love the same the the young men that were my same age or close I love their Fellowship but there was nothing like getting with those older ministers and hearing them tell about trials and tests and what would stabilize the church during TR I I still remember Elder Jimmy Russell the coal miner preacher from Madisonville Kentucky a legend he's going on to be with the Lord but um he was real close to God had a prophetic Ministry and he was preaching and the community there there was several me men in the community that uh that were coming down with sickness due to um bad moonshine that was being made bad liquor that was being made illegal liquor that was being made and men were were very sick and brother Russell one Sunday morning while preaching God showed him a vision and showed him the house and showed him where the where the steel was up under the house and showed him where it was at and showed him the address brother Russell left the pull pit immediately turned to somebody and said come take the pull Pit Brother Russell drove out to the man's house he didn't know the man he knocked on the door the man came to the door and he told the man he said U he said you're the cause of a lot of men in the C County that are getting sick from bad moonshine that you're making you need to you need to stop you're doing it and the man denied it he said it's up under this house it's hi up under this house right here and the man reached back and hit brother Russell and brother Russell and this man got in a tussle they got in a wrestling match and they wrestled off the porch and down the hill of course you're in Kentucky it's always easy to go downhill they they wrestled they they they rolled off the front porch and they rode down and the man was a hitting brother Russell and cussing brother Russell but somewhere from the porch to the ditch at the road when they hit the ditch the man was saying Lord Jesus help me God would you help me would you save me the man went on to church got the Holy Ghost served the Lord in that local church up there and God always worked it out but one thing one thing brother Russell taught me he said brother Carpenter he said and this is back for had a church he said when you Pastor and he said it's not if you have trouble in the church it's when you have trouble he said when you have trouble Don't Preach on the trouble preach on love said when there's trouble in the church said don't get up and try to preach on trouble said let the Holy Ghost take care of trouble he said you just get up you preach on Love and You Preach on how good God is and how great God is and he said it won't make sense and you'll be tempted to get your sword out and go to trimming people but he said I promise you if you keep on preaching Love and Hope and joy said you'll come out of that storm and the Sun the skies will be clear and you'll go and now I've always how about giving a hand to our elders today about giving a hand to James and Connie stinet back there today come on how about giving a James and Connie stand back there today we want to celebrate you as the elders in our church come on stand right now we want to celebrate you as the elders in our church they've served God here for many decades here they've walked with God Connie's been all of our kids Sunday school teacher come on I I celebrate you today you know what I'm going to follow their faith did I see faay Bryant is she back there peeking around Isaac Kirby can you scoot over a little bit you're blocking sister faab Brant no no I'm I'm I'm Jo sister Bryant would you stand right now would would you stand with me right now can we celebrate our elders today we'd like to have Danny Ray here today wouldn't we we'd like to have Brother Ray Bryant here today wouldn't we I'd like to have him not as much as you I can I can't even imagine how much you'd like to have him here today did we pray for Danny Ray sure we did did we pray for brother Bryant sure we did but I trust in God today and God allowed the death to come and God allowed the separation to come and God if you allowed it I put my hope and I put my trust in you and I know that I know that I know that the temporary separation is going to be one day brought to an end and when we see him again there'll be no clocks there'll be no time we're going to see them again throughout all eternity I hope in I'm talking about a God I'm talking about a god sister Brian I follow your faith today I follow your hope today come on now Paul said in Romans 6:12 be not ye slothful but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit inherit the promises verse 13 13 for when God made promise to Abraham because he could swear by no greater he swore by himself you know in a court of law they'll ask you before you get on the witness stand do you swear of course we as Christians we we use the word affirm and uh do you affirm or swear to tell the truth of nothing but the truth will help you God isn't it amazing that that phrase is in our courtrooms today to a nation that doesn't believe in God matter of fact the insurance companies need to get it right because you let a rock fall off a truck or something to hit your windshield or a rock fly up and they'll call it an act of I thought y'all didn't believe in God all right but how does God when he make a promise how does God swear how does God take an oath when verse 13 let's look at this deeply for when God made promise to Abraham when God May promised Abraham because he could swear by no greater he swear by himself saying surely blessing I Will Bless thee and multiplying I will multiply thee and so after he had patiently endured he obtained the promise for men verely swear by the greater and an oath of confirmation is to them an end of all strip in other words if you could get a man to swear or affirm that ended it that that that just that just ended it uh that's why there's such a stiff penalty in the court of law for perjury for perjury what is perjury you don't tell the truth under oath and it's called it's called perjury and there's a very stiff sentence you're under oath in the Bible when they took an oath that ended that ended all the Strife verse 17 wherein God willing more abundantly to show unto The Heirs of Promise the the immutability of his counsel that immutability there means unchanging un changing of his counsel confirmed it by an oath look at verse 19 18 excuse me that by two immutable unchangeable things in which it was impossible for God to lie we might have strong consol ation who have fled for Refuge to lay hold upon the what's that say the hope that is set before us you say well Bill Carpenter why do you hope in God biblically I'll tell you why because it's impossible for God to break a promise it's impossible for God to break a promise it's impossible for God to lie his word is truth he would never tell you a lie and his promises are true they will always be fulfilled how about this promise today I will never leave you nor forsake you I will be with you always even to the end of the world how many have ever felt God forsaken how many ever felt like God do you hear me God do you see me God you even care about me but in the midst of that when I can't figure him out on my human hope I slide over here to my biblical hope and I say God let me get my Bible out right now God let me read that promise one more time because you said you would never leave me never been a moment never been a minute that you were you you were not in my life God is hope it's impossible for God to lie then look at the wording here who hath fled for Refuge who have fled for Refuge this Refuge here is protection in danger this Refuge here is hope when you need help it is it is hope when you need help it is getting to a place it is a place of Refuge I believe today we call them storm shelters we call them we call them a storm shelter in the Bible days they called it a place of Refuge when you were in trouble when you were in danger when you feared for your life there were six cities in Bible days to the children of Israel six of them the number of a man there were six of them and if you accidentally accidentally took someone's life you knew that you needed to run to the City of Refuge and they were all located to where the Cities of Refuge were were very convenient and very close to all of us in other words God so designed it God so designed it that everybody could easily get to a City of Refuge you made it to the City of Refuge and you got a fair trial there you made it the City of Refuge and you were saved there Jesus is our City of Refuge Jesus Christ is our City of Refuge and can I tell you he is not far from any of us as a matter of fact he's as close as the mention of his name now the only difference church between Jesus and the Old Testament Cities of Refuge you had to be innocent to get into the Old Testament Cities of Refuge but in the New Testament Jesus you can be guilty or innocent and he still opens his arms up and says come on in you hurt come on in you hurt somebody come on in because I am your city and Paul is using this Refuge here to remind them about the Cities of Refuge but then he says once you get there look at the end of Verse 18 once you get there you lay hold on the hope that is set before us in other words when we get to Jesus remember those ropes remember those cables so strong when we get to Jesus we tie ourself off to him it's called hope hope is the connection the rope that I have between me and my life and Jesus Jesus Christ isn't isn't that wonderful today doesn't that warm your heart in a way to know that that's what Jesus does for you that's what it does let's look at verse 19 for a moment which hope we have as an anchor look at this now as an anchor of the Soul both sure and steadfast which entereth into that within the veil whether the Forerunner is for us entered even Jesus made a high priest Forever After the order of MDC now look at this Paul once again wants us to understand this doctrine of hope so he gives us analogies on Earth he says hope is like an anchor to the soul it's like an anchor to the soul and he talks about now and that they could begin to understand yeah hope an anchor they they were fishermen they they could understand oh yeah an anchor what did does an anchor do an anchor keeps a vessel in a place in a specific place you want to fish right here anchor off right here you want to swim right here what do you do you anchor off right here and that anchor if you can you you know this if you can see the anchor it's not working all right if you can see it it's not working unless you're in some mighty clear water and I don't know of that clear water around here all right if you can see it it's not working you said we build a carart die I hear what you're saying but why I'd like to see some things well you never see them if you don't have hope you got to first begin to believe that he's there and believe you're tethered off to him and so it puts you in one SP he said it's like an anchor to the soul it's like an anchor to the soul but the only difference is this in the Bible days when a ship would pull into a harbor another little boat would come out and they would drop the anchor into the little boat the little boat would paddle or or its way in to the harbor when the little boat got to the shore strong men strong men would get a hold of the rope and they would begin to pull the rope and that would guide that ship into that Harbor so that they could they could get there Jesus Christ our Forerunner Jesus Christ Our Forerunner has already the only difference the analogy that we have to change to us an anchor goes down into the water but to us the anchor goes up to us the anchor goes down and is stationary to us the anchor goes up and it's ever more pulling us it's ever more we're not what we used to be because he has went into the holy of holies our Forerunner has went into the holy of holies and we are connected by hope and hope that it is seen Paul said if you can see it why do you hope for it but you feel that P pull today you feel that pull of that rope called hope today you feel it as it's pulling you they tell me that when a spaceship lands on the moon that it takes a lot of thrust to get it into into the or out of the orbit here but when it gets into the orbit of the moon that they trim their Motors back because the orbit of the moon pulls the vessel down into it can I tell you Jesus Christ is soon to return and to those of us today that have tethered our life on the hope of Jesus Christ don't you feel the tug of him this morning don't you feeling pulling you today I'm not what I was a year ago I'm not what I was 6 months ago what why because there is a rope there is an anchor that is in heaven and it's ever pulling me in that direction oh come on give him some praise right now I would ask this in question form but I'm not going to do it I'm just going to make the statement death is the worst thing that could happen to you death death all right I'm not going to ask you because there may be a lot of well no this and no that no death death is universal ever since Adam all men have one thing in common except for for except for two and they're being saved for a special time during the tribulation but all men have all faced one thing they've all faced death death is the worst thing that could happen to you but you know what our Forerunner did the Bible calls Jesus Christ a forerunner what is a forerunner he was a military man that went and all by himself and SPI out the land identified the enemy and then sent a signal to tell others to come on a forerunner is one who comes in advance to a place where the rest are to follow Jesus Christ God robed in flesh hung suffered blessed dead and died on a Hill Called Calvary he was As Dead As any human being had ever died since Adam but four 72 hours later 3 Days Later The Same Spirit that caused his conception in the womb of Mary The Same Spirit caused his resurrection but not just a resurrection of someone who'd been crucified a brand new body a brand new body a brand new body and he came out of the Tomb 40 Days Later ascended up into heaven he is our Forerunner he went he spotted out he is in the veil we can't see it we can't see the anchor but the anchor still holds and as we believe in Jesus Christ put our faith and our trust in Jesus Christ we can feel that ever drawing of his presence today because he is our our great Forerunner none of us today want to die none of us today are welcoming death into our lives life is good we Thrive to live but our faith in God says that the worst thing that could happen to us in life is not death but the worst thing that could happen to you or I is to die without hope is to die without that peace is to that not to have any kind of power today that's pulling you upward to him I'm so glad for that hope this morning as a matter of fact let me bring this to an end today isn't it amazing that God seems to do a lot of work in graveyards you ever noticed that with me in the Bible if you haven't take note of it study throughout the Bible how many times God works in the graveyard I can tell you about 2 Kings 13 where elah the prophet had died and they had buried Elijah the prophet few years later as his body had decomposed and there was nothing there but bones left his grave was open a battle broke out a man lost his life they needed to bury him in a hurry before the moabites would come and find them so you know what they decided to do they just decided to chunk their buddy into that open grave Over Yonder just go ahead and throw him in that open seler over there the Bible says they threw him in that open seler but when his body came down to the bottom of that grave and his body touched the bones of Elisha the Bible said he revived and stood upright I I'd like to see that site today can't you imagine Charlie and Bill chunk their buddy Ross into the grave oh Ross lost his wife they chunked him into the grave and the next thing they knew Charlie and Ted were running and they said run faster why he said Ross come out of that grave back there he's running right behind us can I tell you it wasn't the bones of Elijah that did it it wasn't the bones of Elisha that did it it was the all powerful hand of almighty God that I'm telling you God does his work in graveyards that let me go forward let me go let me tell you another one let me tell you let me tell you another how about ezekiel's Bone Yard how about ezekiel's Bone Yard you can't get any more Bleak than ezekiel's Boneyard a whole valley floor scattered with bones of defeated people the bones were bleached white by the Sun but God told the prophet to step out there and prophesy to him the word of God much like you're having this preach to you today the Bible said God said go out there Ezekiel and preach to those bones now I'm not calling y'all old bones today all right he said go out there and preach to them old bones go out there and tell them old bones to hear you the word of the Lord and don't make any sense these ears don't have these bones don't have ears you just go do what I've told you to do you see I believe in the life changing power of the preach word of God I believe that you can step out in an audience with people that are nothing more in their life as defeated dri scattered bones that are saying to one another we have no hope we have no hope we have no hope we have no hope but get around the creative power and the preaching of the word of God and hear things like you're not trash you're treasure hear things like this is not the end of your life this can be the new day this can be a beginning God can do a work and all of a sudden them old dry bones begin to hear the word of the lord well well well that preacher said God loved me that that preacher said God wouldn't give up on me that preacher said God still had a plan for my life you better believe it can happen today you know the only thing that would stop it Ezekiel 37 and verse 11 says this Ezekiel 37 and11 then said he unto me God said unto me son of man these bones are the whole house of Israel behold they say our bones are dried our hope is lost we're cut off from our parts therefore prophesy and say unto them thus sayith the Lord God behold My Oh My People I will open your Graves cause you to come out of your Graves bring you into the land of Israel and ye shall know that I am the Lord when I have opened your Graves and oh my people and brought you up out of your Graves and shall put my spirit in you and you shall live and I shall place you in your own land then shall you know that I am the Lord I have spoken it and performed it saith saith the Lord listen to that church we were nothing but dead men and women when we came to God we were nothing but dead people when we came to God but aren you thankful you begin to hear the word of the god of Hope and when you begin to hear the word of the god of hope you just believe if I go to that altar God will forgive me of my sins if I go get water baptized in his name God will remove all of my sins and make me a new Creature if I'll just go God will fill me with his Spirit that's much powerful than the spirit of destruction that's got a hold of my life I am so thankful today to preach the month of August about a God that has hope for you today a God come on give him a hand of Praise if you believe he's a god of Hope today musicians and praise team would you come right now let me finish this with God it told the children of Israel you're going to be 70 years in bondage because of the way that you've been living you're going to be 70 years in bondage because of how you've been living in they were in Babylon for 70 years and false prophets rose up in Babylon false prophets begin to give you do agree with this right all false prophets can give is false hope all false prophets can give is false hopes false prophets begin to arise and false prophets begin to say thus sayith the Lord Jehovah in just a few months you're going back to Jerusalem just a few months just a few months you'll be back in your Homeland thus sayth Jehovah God raised up Jeremiah Jeremiah came and he said don't listen to him so don't listen to those voices you're not going back to Jerusalem in a year you're going to be 70 years here you're going to be 70 years and he said thus said the Lord marry wives raise your children build your houses plant Vineyards just go on with life for 70 years you're going to be here sayeth the Lord and at the end of 70 years this is where you you've heard this scripture a lot I know the thoughts that I think towards you not thoughts of Destruction but thoughts of hope to give you an expected in yes even in the consequences of Adam's sin even in the consequences that we still live in that we still live in in Adam's sin we still live in sin cursed bodies we still our bodies have not been redeemed yet we still live in sin cursed bodies saints of God are still going to die they're still going to die of various diseases that doesn't mean today that they were sinful that they were not believing and all of this but God says in the midst of Life the midst of life let me break it down to what it would be today go to my house read my word lift your hands up and praise me teach Sunday school get on the ushering team help support missionaries around the world raise your children to know me Jehovah raise your families around me because this world is not your home this world I don't care what people are prophesying to you this world is not our home I don't mean to be a prophet of Doom today but it's not going to get better not going to get any better Church you hear me right now will you stand with me right now it's not going it's not going to get any better it's not going to get and I know well that I that don't make me feel good today but I am here to tell you one thing if you will tie yourself off to the hope that is in God today God is got an expected end for the church he's going to give us life and life more abundantly and we're going to enjoy the beautiful things of God down here and oh won't we have a time when we get over Yonder won't we have a Time I want you to lift up your hands with me right now all of this building I want us to begin to pray
