Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Levi in the loins of Abraham

  • He takes the floor after the altar song: there are some messages you do violence to the spirit of God when you try to end the service in a certain way. This has been a very sobering message, and it leaves the church sober minded — fathers here are already thinking, I'm going to have a conversation with my children.
  • But just in case anybody doubts the generation thing: Hebrews chapter 7 and verse number 9 — and as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, paid tithes in Abraham, for he was yet in the loins of his father when he met him.
  • The one who met Abraham coming back from the battle was a priest and a king — and you had to be one or the other, you couldn't be both — but this man was both: an Old Testament type of Jesus Christ, a great intercessor and the king of kings, and Abraham paid tithes to him.
  • Levi was not Abraham's son: Abraham, then Isaac, then Jacob — Levi was one of the twelve sons of Jacob, Abraham's great-grandson. Later God took the tribe of Levi and made the Levitical priesthood of them, with no other occupation than the house of God, sustained by the tithing of the people — and God says that priesthood paid tithes while yet in the loins of Abraham. Our decisions to live for God are going to affect more generations than we have.

Scriptures: Hebrews 7:9-10

Better for our children

  • God rang his bell while he was out preaching: some young men who had been golfing for the school had jumped the fence into the pastor's pool — and God reminded him of the leaves he and a friend once raked into bags and piled on top of a neighbor's house with a ladder off the back of his truck. The boys paid him a compliment — they thought if they got caught he would be cool with it. Just ask permission next time.
  • He thanks brother Hammond for obeying the Lord, and thanks the people for staying: don't we want better for our children? We're giving them better when we're doing this right here. Wednesday night 7:30 — part three of the poison root. God bless you.

Scripture index: Hebrews 7:9-10.

thank the Lord thank the Lord thank the Lord you know there's just some messages that you hear and I think you do violence to the spirit of God when you try to believe that we have to end the service in a certain way I want what God wants if God wants us to close out shouting and dancing and running the aisles you all know we've done that you know we'll do that sometimes I believe that God has just a different way of leaving us in a sober minded sober minded this has been a very sobering uh message tonight that brother Hammond has preached and I believe that it connected and I believe one one of the things it's the great tra of F marville I believe something that's a great trait of this church is this is how we respond to preaching fathers are here tonight I in in the Holy Ghost I already know fathers I've already been thinking I'm going to have a conversation with my my children I'm going I'm going to have a conversation with my children I'm going talk I'm going to talk to them I'm going to talk to them CU don't ever forget get what it was like to be young I'm going to talk to him but just in case just in case if there's anybody here that's thinking ah that Generation stuff he's talking about ah that that I just don't know about that if You' be so kind and I'm I'm Hebrews chapter 7 and verse number n if you could put that on the screen just real quickly for me Hebrews chapter 7 verse number n what a message tonight I turned around and and brother and sister hi is with her grandchildren I said we're so blessed we're just so blessed brother John Stone we're just so blessed brother Roger we're so blessed we're so blessed tonight just in case you say well I I this generation thing I just don't know about it look at verse n just real quick I'm going to read nine and 10 and as I may so say Levi also who received tithe paid tithes in Abraham for he was yet in the loins of his father when MDC met him now this is a story of Abraham coming back from a battle and the mystery man MDC the priest and King he's a Old Testament typology of Jesus Christ he was both King and priest you had to be one of the other you could could be both but this man was both he typified Jesus Christ a great intercessor and the king of kings and when Abraham came back from that battle he paid tith to MDC he paid tith well later on the scripture will tell us that Levi or the levitical priesthood that sprang from uh not Abraham's son Levi is not Abraham's son he got Abraham and Isaac and then you've got Isaac and they have Esau and Jacob wait a minute that would make that would make Jacob Abraham's grandson right Levi was one of the 12 sons of Jacob and when Abraham met mezc and paid tith to him later on God would take the tribe of Levi and make the levitical priesthood out of them would not allow them to have an occupation other than working in the house of God and they were sustained by the tithing of the people but isn't that interesting that God would say that Levi who received tith also paid tithe when he was in the lains of Abraham who wasn't really technically his father he was his great-grandfather I'm telling you tonight this message has got some meat to it right now this message has got some meat to it right now meaning my decisions are no he's already said it he's already said our decision to live for God is going to affect more Generations than we have fathers mothers go home have those talks with those children go home boy God rang my bell the other night he rang my bell I was I was out preaching and my wife called me and said there's some folks there's somebody out here around the pool or somebody out here around the pool she went out there and sure enough here was some young men that decided to sneak over the pastor's house and I won't call them out I might look at them but I won't call them out they had been out golfing for the school I won't call them out or I didn't F or anything it's hot it's hot they're sweaty pastors pools just beckoning them jump the fence take a swim well I'll tell you what I'll and all of a sudden God starts saying you remember when you took all them leaves that Sherwin Harvey raak his yard with put them in a big old bags and you went over you and Deon Wilson went over and took them bags it was on his out by the road filled with leaves for the garbage man to come get you remember when you went got a ladder out the back of your truck and took them leaves and piled them up on top of sherwin's house y Lord you see them boys paid me a big compliment that they thought
