Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The threshold text: beware, and behold the fullness
- The lesson opens standing, with the direction to Colossians 2: beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men and the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ — for in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
- The teacher states his method for the night: the class will not wrestle with flesh and blood but will search the scriptures themselves for who Jesus is, and his opening prayer asks God to open the understanding of everyone present.
Scriptures: Colossians 2:8-9
God was in Christ: the image of the invisible God
- God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and Christ is the image of the invisible God — the invisible God made visible, not a second god beside him.
- In him we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins; he is the firstborn of every creature, and God was manifest in the flesh — great is the mystery of godliness.
- The apostle calls him our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, and Hebrews calls the Son the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of his person, who by himself purged our sins and sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:19; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Colossians 1:14-15; 1 Timothy 3:16; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:1-3
One God who is Father — and the Son who was given
- The God who speaks in Deuteronomy and in Malachi is one — the Lord, our Father, who bought his people and made them: have we not all one father? Hath not one God created us?
- The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us; and the spirit of adoption by which believers cry Abba, Father is God’s own Spirit in them — sonship language in the lesson always traces back to the one God acting.
- The conception settles the title: that which was conceived in Mary was of the Holy Ghost, and the holy thing born of her is called the Son of God because the Highest overshadowed her — Son is the title of the child born, of the flesh God indwelt.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 32:6; Malachi 2:10; John 1:14; Romans 8:15; Matthew 1:18-20; Luke 1:35
Love, the Spirit, and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
- God is love, and the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us; the fruit of the Spirit begins with love, so love is traced to the one Spirit of the one God.
- The apostolic greetings are walked through one by one — grace and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ; God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ; grace from God the Father — reading each as the one God blessing his church in the name he has revealed.
- The lesson lingers on Colossians’ mystery: God manifest, the mystery of God and of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Scriptures: 1 John 4:8; Romans 5:5; Galatians 5:22-24; 1 Corinthians 1:3; 2 Corinthians 1:2; Galatians 1:3; Ephesians 1:3; Colossians 2:2
The dual nature: my Father is greater than I
- The sayings that trouble people are answered from the flesh side of the life: when Jesus said my Father is greater than I, and when he said of the day and hour knoweth no man, not even the Son, he spoke as the man he truly was.
- John 1:14 is designated and delivered a second time, entire, as the movement’s proof: one person in whom the Word — God — was made flesh, born of a woman, born under the law, in the fullness of time.
- There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus: the mediator is the man; the God he mediates for is the God he is.
Scriptures: John 14:28; Matthew 24:36; John 1:14; Galatians 4:4; 1 Timothy 2:5
The name given among men
- The church was purchased with God’s own blood, and baptism commanded in the name — singular — of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; the lesson asks what that name is and answers it from the name borne by the Son, inherited by obtained name, given a name above every name.
- Neither is there salvation in any other: there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved; he came in his Father’s name, and the angel named the child before his birth — thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins; the name spoken again to Mary in Luke.
- The prophets carried the same name beforehand: unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace; and the virgin’s son is called Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Scriptures: Acts 20:28; Matthew 28:19; Hebrews 1:4; Philippians 2:9; Acts 4:12; John 5:43; Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:31; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 7:14
The secret name: Manoah and Jacob
- Manoah asks the angel’s name and is asked in return, why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret; Manoah then knows he has seen God, and says, we shall surely die, because we have seen God — the angel of the Lord who appeared to them is God himself appearing.
- Jacob wrestles till the breaking of the day and testifies of it: I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved — and the lesson reads the wrestler as the same God who would be manifest in flesh, since the invisible God has been seen by no man at any time.
Scriptures: Judges 13:17-18; Judges 13:21-22; Genesis 32:24-30
The name in baptism, and the close of the lesson
- The lesson lands where the apostles landed: repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost — with signs following them that believe in the name, and repentance and remission of sins preached in his name among all nations.
- These things are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name.
- The closing text reads the washed, the sanctified and the justified — such were some of you, but ye are washed — in the name of the Lord Jesus; and the teacher closes the night in altar prayer ministry, telling how prayer for a sick church member was answered, and urging the class to bring somebody back Sunday.

You would remain standing with me this evening as we go into the word of the Lord. Thank you so very, very much. The book of Colossians, chapter number two and verse number eight, verse number nine. Thank you so much. As you're looking for that verse of scripture, let me say to everyone here this evening, thank you. Thank you so much for being in the house of the Lord on this midweek Bible study for loving the Lord. You've heard me say this many times. They said that they say that people go to church on Sunday morning because they love their church. People go to church on Sunday night because they love their pastor. But I've heard it said people show up on Wednesday night that love the Lord. And if that be true, there's a lot of people here that love the Lord tonight. And I thank you. Thank you so much for being here in the house in the house of the Lord. My subject matter tonight, my subject matter this evening is of the greatest of importance and uh if Jesus says something is the greatest of all. If if Jesus says something is the greatest of all, then you go ahead and take it to the bank. It's the it's the greatest of all. And he was asked, he was asked, "Which is the greatest of all the commandments?" And he said, "The greatest of them all is to hear, oh Israel, the Lord our God is one." And so my subject matter tonight is Jesus Christ is God. >> Jesus Christ is God. >> Colossians chapter 2 verse number eight. Beware lest any man spoil you, that means to take away through philosophy, vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him, Christ dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. I very seldom do this, but I want to read from a different translation that may bring one part of this to light. It says, "Beware that no one distracts you or intimidates you in their attempt to lead you away from Christ's fullness by pretending to be full of wisdom when they're filled with endless arguments of human logic. For they operate with humanistic and clouded judgments based on the mindset of this world system and not the anointed truths of the anointed one. Verse number nine, for he Christ is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. He is the complete fullness of deity living in human form. How many have a prayer request tonight that as we pray over the word, we take our prayer requests before God this evening? Please remember to pray for sister Maria Hanley. Um she's had surgery this week and she is still in the hospital. Her and brother David are such faithful people here at First Apostolic. Remember, please remember sister Maria in prayer. Remember the Callaways in prayer. Um they had taken brother Callaway by ambulance yesterday to the hospital. Thought he was having a heart attack. I believe that they've ruled that out that it's a case of pneumonia. Please remember please remember them in prayer and a praise report. A praise report. We baptized our uh security guard, Brother Chad Buchanan's wife. We baptized her wednesday or Sunday night, excuse me. We baptized her Sunday night and uh she came up out of the water speaking with other tongues and we praise God for that. We praise God. I just love to hear new people uh brother McBroom, I just love to hear new people describe the Holy Ghost. I just I just I just love it. I just love it. Let's pray right now. Father, we come before you this evening. We're so thankful, Lord, for your love. We're so thankful for your mercy. God, you saw every hand that was lifted tonight. You know every need that's in this building. Dear God, help us. Dear God, be with us. Dear God, we need your help. We look to you for our strength. We look to you for our guidance in life, Lord. Lord, I just pray that you would just touch these people that are sick in their body, and you would move upon those that are needy here at the church, Lord. God, touch us tonight. Open our minds, Lord. Let there be revelation, truth in this place tonight. In Jesus wonderful name we all pray. May everybody said, "Amen." >> Amen. >> Would you be so kind to give the Lord a hand of praise as you're being seated? God is great and God is greatly to be praised. Before I begin my Bible lesson tonight, we're so glad to have Pastor Brandon Shanks here with us from the great state of Georgia. We love him and his friend that's with us tonight. And would you give my dear friend, brother Brandon Shanks, a hand right now? I know them very well. Jesus Christ is God. >> Jesus Christ is God. It would be Paul writing in the book of Colossians that would put us on guard and tell us to be watching out because there were those that were going to try to spoil us on this subject that Jesus is God. The word spoil, of course, if if if you're from my background, you have to you have to kind of readjust the word spoil because I think when I think of spoil, I think of food that's went that's went bad, you know. But actually, the true definition in this Bible sense is to take away from you, to to steal something from you. I don't want the devil to get anything away from me that God has given to me. And he says, "Be be be uh be on guard." Uh they will come trying to steal from you and they're going to use philosophy. They're going to use vain deceit. They're going to use the tradition of man. They'll say, "Well, this has been this way for a a long long time. And they're going to they're going to use all of these clever things." But then Paul just summed it up by saying, "For in him, Jesus Christ, dwells the fullness of the Godhead bodily." In him dwelleth the fullness of the Godhead bodily. It would be again in 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse number 19. Paul would make the statement to wit. That word wit there means to know. to know that God was in Christ. God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself. 2 Coronic second, excuse me, 2 Corinthians chapter 4 verse number four, Paul again says, "In whom the God of this world," the god of this world is Satan. You'll notice that in your Bible, it's a little G. and the god of this world, which is Satan, hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God should shine should shine upon them. Again, back to Colossians chapter 1, verse number 14. And you will you will notice with me tonight that I love to read a lot of scripture when it comes to doctrine. I I I I love to I I love to read a lot of scripture so that you can look at this and you can understand that Jesus is God. It's very simple. Jesus is God. Colossians 1:14. In whom we have redemption through his blood. Now we're speaking of Jesus Christ. Even the forgiveness of sins. Look at verse 15. Who is the image of the invisible God? Paul sums it up in 1 Timothy chapter 3 verse number 16 when people would want to say, "Well, it's a mystery and and you really can't understand, you know, God. You can't fathom God. You can't fathom this subject of the Godhead." Paul settles in 1 Timothy 3:16 when he simply says, "And without controversy, without debating, without an argument, without wrangling over thoughts, without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and received up into glory. Jesus Christ is God. Titus 2:13, looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our savior Jesus Christ. Can I tell you who's coming to get us to meet us in the air? You say, "Yeah, Jesus is coming." Our great God is coming to get us. >> Our great God will come to receive us, to get us. One more verse of scripture and we'll kind of navigate our way through here. Hebrews chapter 1:es 1-3 says these words, God who at sunundry times that that word sunundry there means just different ways sunundry times and diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets. And what he's saying, he says God used a lot of different ways to speak to people through the prophets. He spoke to people through the prophets by different by different ways. Verse two, God hath in these last days spoken unto us by his son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds, who being the brightness of his glory, and the expressed image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high, that word there in that that phrase there in verse number three that Jesus is the express image of his person or that word really should read personality or nature or nature. Now in understanding that Jesus is God and making the Bible come alive in your mind when we use the title of father it describes God's role because God is referred to in scripture as a father. He is referred to many times in scripture as a father. When the word or the title father is used to describe God's roles as the father of creation, the father of the only begotten son, Jesus Christ, and the father of us born again believers. Now you hear that. Now when the Bible uses the word father to God, it is in reference to him being the father of creation. It is in reference to be him being the father of his only begotten son Jesus Christ. And he is the father of us born again believers. And here are the verses that can back that statement up. Deuteronomy 32:6. Do you thus reququite the Lord, oh foolish people and unwise? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? Have he not made thee and established thee? See, this verse is going to tell us that God is our father through God is our father through creation. Malachi chapter 2 and verse number 10. Have we not all fathers? >> One father. Hath not one God created us? John chapter 1 and verse number 14. Those verses there are telling us that he is the father of creation. He is the father. When we refer to God as father, we're referring to him as the father of creation. John chapter 1 and verse number 14. And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us. And we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth. So now we understand that when the term father is used, it is used in reference to the only begotten son and that is Jesus Christ. Go to Romans chapter 8 and verse number f 15. Everybody all right tonight? You love to study the word of God. >> Love to study the word of God. You know, uh I can I can preach and a lot of times preaching will get something on you. All right? But if you'll let me teach to you, I can get something in you. All right? And I believe that God wants a balanced church. I I I don't believe that he just wants a people that if you didn't suck the microphone down your left lung and you're screaming and hollering running up down the aisles, you you know that's how you that that's how you judge a good sermon. I'm going to tell you that can be a good sermon. I'm going to tell you a good message, too, is when somebody just gets their Bible and open up and says, "We're going to teach a little bit tonight. >> We're going to teach. We're just we're just going to teach a little bit tonight." Romans chapter 8, verse number 15. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption whereby we cry abba father. So when father is used in the bible in reference to god, it is referring this title father is referring to him being the father of creation. It is referring to him being the father of the only begotten son. And it is referring to us when we receive the baptism of the holy ghost. And we don't receive a spirit. Sister Alan will tell you this. We don't receive a spirit that makes us feel bound. We've already got that already. We receive a spirit that causes us to be free. And we cry out abba father. Cry out abba father. Now the title son when we hear the title son referred to with God it refers to God coming in flesh. God coming in flesh. Uh for the baby Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost which if you want to divide father, son and holy ghost up and this is what happened in the second third century with the uh councelss of religious men uh that were trying to make God more palatable for the idol worshippers of that day. And uh so they they they divided they divided God up into three separate persons. And the definition of these councils were that these three separate persons were co-equal. That means they each have uh as much power as the other. And uh they are co-eternal. That means that they are uh eternal. All three would would be eternal. If that would be so, then the Holy Ghost would be the father of Jesus. Just think about it for a moment. Let's let's read the verse of scripture. Matthew chapter 1 verse number 18. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise or this is how it happened. When as his mother Mary was inspoused, engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee, Mary, thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. Now, and again, uh in um in Matthew 1:18-20, the angel was speaking to Joseph. And now in Luke 135, the angel has appeared to Mary and told her that she would become pregnant. And Mary asked, "How could this be? I've never known a man. I am a virgin. How can I bring forth a child?" And the Bible says in verse 35, the angel answered and said unto her, the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee. Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the son of God. So when we we hear the term son, the title son, we're it's it's in reference to God becoming a man or God becoming becoming flesh. Let's go on now. The title of the Holy Ghost when it's used about God, the Holy Ghost identifies the fundamental character of God's nature. Notice it calls him the Holy Ghost or some people say Holy Spirit. The reason that it calls him the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit is because God's basic nature and attribute, he's a holy God. There's none like him. In him is no sin. In him is no darkness. He is a holy He is a holy God. Now when it uses the term Holy Ghost, it is really talking about God in activity. God moving in in in activity. You notice we remember with me in Genesis, the act of creation. The Bible said the spirit of the Lord did what? Move upon the face of the waters. So when it referring to the Holy Ghost, it is God in activity. Uh it can refer to the anointing that comes upon a person. It can refer to the regeneration, the changing that God brings into our life. How many are here tonight that can testify that since you've received the precious baptism of the Holy Ghost, there has been a change in your life. There there's been a regeneration. There's been a there's been a change in in your life. And God God can work. God can work and God can move. And we refer to it as the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit. Now Jesus is God and God is love. Jesus is God and God God is love. First John chapter 4 verse number eight. He that loveth not knoweth not God. For God is love. For God is love. You see, it's it's impossible to believe that you're growing in grace and knowing God if you allow bitterness and hatred to be in your heart. >> Because God is love. God God is God is love. I'll show you why we need to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. This is why we need to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. God is love. But Romans 5 and verse number five, it says these words, "And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God," what kind of love? love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Look at that. Now I thank God for that initial sign. I do. I thank God for that initial sign that when we we that God gave us that when we speak in another tongue that is the outward initial sign that we have been filled with the Holy Ghost. But can I tell you, if you will cultivate that spirit of God that comes on the inside of you, what comes on the inside of you is the great love of God. When we allow the Holy Ghost to move in us, it'll cause us to love our enemies. Oh yes, it will. If we allow the Holy Ghost to be in our heart, it'll allow us to look at people that have done us wrong and say, "I forgive you in Jesus' name, and let's go on to heaven together." and let's live for God together. It is it is the love of God. But not only that, when the Holy Ghost gets in you, there's something else that begins to happen. Galatians chapter 5 22 bears this out. Galatians 5:22, but the fruit of the spirit, the fruit, and we talk about the gift of the spirit. you obviously you can't get the fruit of the spirit until you get the gift of the spirit. But don't just be satisfied that you got a an initial sign that you got the Holy Ghost. Stay active. Stay worshiping. Keep worshiping like you were the night you prayed and received the Holy Ghost. Stay in the altar. Stay active. Stay praying. And it won't be long until you'll begin to bear the fruit of the spirit. Galatians 5:22. But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. Against such there is no law. And they that are Christ have crucified the flesh with with the affections with the with the affections thereof. Can I tell you this is the most wonderful thing we could ever have in our life. You want something to change you? Stop going to Barnes & Noble and going down the aisle on how to improve yourself. There's the greatest book right here that can help improve yourself. Got bitterness in your heart, pray through. Got hatred in your heart? Pray through. Invite the Holy Ghost into into your heart and the fruit of the spirit. Now, these terms, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost also could be understood in God's revelation to man. These terms father, son, holy ghost is that God is revealing himself to man. Father refers to God in family relationship to man. Son refers to God. He is the incarnate. And the spirit refers to God's activity. Now, now look at this. Look at this. Isn't it wonderful that God revealed himself as father, son, and holy ghost? All right. He revealed himself as father. He revealed himself as father. and uh the the family, he's our father. Matter of fact, he said, "When we pray, say our father." Aren't you thankful? I'm I'm glad to be a part of the family of God. >> I'm I'm glad to be a part of the family of God. Father, and then Son, that's that's God. That's God with us. And then Holy Ghost. Holy Ghost. That's God active. God active in our lives. Now please understand that nowhere in the Bible does it use the word trinity or nowhere in the Bible does it refer to God in the number of three god you could not you could not uh limit a god to three you couldn't limit him but he brings these major three the father son and holy ghost as titles to tell us to tell us that that uh I am the father of creation. I am the son of redemption. Same god. Not not not two different the father and son are not two different gods. >> And they're not even two different persons that are of the same substance. >> All right? I want you to make make sense of that. It's not two different persons that are of the same substance. All right? It's just one God who is the father of all creation and he became the son of redemption and he is active. He is the Holy Ghost in our lives today and in the church's life today. Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Well, many people in wanting to back up the councils of Naa uh by these men that were wanting to take the Bible and take the word of God and especially the identity of Jesus Christ and divide it up into three separate persons. These salutations, those that want to back this up that there is three persons, they will take you to some of the salutations in the epistles. For example, for example, 1 Corinthians chapter 1 verse number three. Grace be unto you and peace from God our father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. See there, there's two. God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Second Corinthians chapter 1 verse number two. Grace be unto you and peace from God our father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. There it is again preacher. There it is. Give pastor. There's two. God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ. There it is. There it is. Galatians chapter 1 verse number three. Grace be to you and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ. Here's two persons. Oh no, no, no. It's not two persons. It is not two persons. It is the source and then it is the conduit that releases the source. It is God who as the source who overshadowed a virgin Mary and a flesh his only begotten son was born and therefore a sacrifice so he becomes the source and the outlet not two separate persons but let's just go on and look at the salutations because if you're going to make a doctrine out of the salutations all the salutations have to have to add up if you're going to read the salutations and you're going to say giving thanks unto God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ Then you got to stay true as all the salutations. Let's go to Ephesians chapter 1 and verse number three. It's interesting here. Blessed be the God and father. Blessed be the God and father. And from our Lord Jesus Christ. We'll do the math there. God one and father two and Lord Jesus Christ three pray tell where's the Holy Ghost that'd be four right you see it it doesn't add up when you use it to say that there's two persons here but let's read I think there's another verse that'll bring it out even clearer and that's Colossians chapter 2 verse number two he writes and he says that their hearts might be comforted being knit together in love and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding. He said, I want you to have the understanding to to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God and of the Father and of Christ. There once again, where's the Holy Ghost at? Because if you threw the Holy Ghost in there, that would be four persons of the so-called Trinity. And we know that that would that would not be the case. But when it's given the salutations, it's simply identifying that Jesus Christ is God. Jesus Christ is God. Now, please allow me tonight because there are many goodhearted people that have been misled in this so-called doctrine of the triune God, the God of three separate, co-equal, co-eternal. So their very statement, not what I've written, but their very statement I use that there's three persons and they're co-equal means each has as much power as the other. They are co-equal. Let's listen to Jesus in John chapter 14 and verse number 28. John chapter 14 verse number 28. Listen to Jesus. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again unto you. If you love me, you would you will rejoice because I said I go unto my father for my father is greater than I. That's not being co-equal. Their so-called person number two claims that the the first person of the Godhead is God the Father. The second person claims that the first person is greater than he. That doesn't sound like co-equal. Then let's go on down to Matthew 24 verse number 36. Jesus said this about the coming of the Lord. He said, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father only." So this they're they're they're obviously not co-equal. They're obviously not co-equal in knowledge. Uh they're not co-equal in power according to these verses of scripture here. Jesus says that uh no man knows. The angels don't know the time and but my father only. Now you'll have a lot of people as you are witnessing of this great truth that Jesus is God. You will have a lot of people saying well who was Jesus praying to on the cross? Who was he praying to on on the cross? Of which my answer back to them is simply this. If he has as much power as the other two persons of the Godhead, why would he need to pray? If he has if he has as much power, we hear them say that the father turned his back on him. But wait, if the father is a separate person and Jesus is the same as the father, what would it matter if he turned his back on him? He possesses the same amount of power according to their doctrinal creed. But now let's bring it back to the scripture and cause this to understand why Jesus said, "My father's greater than I. Only my father knows." Um and that is understanding the dual nature of Jesus Christ. The dual nature. Dual meaning two. Jesus Christ is 100% God. He's not one-third God. He is 100% God. He is fully God. But Jesus Christ is not only fully God. He is fully man. He is 100% fully man. He is referred to in scripture as the son of God. He is referred to in scripture as the son of man. First John I I read this to you but John chapter 1 verse14 the word was made flesh dwelt among us and we beheld his glory the glory as of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth. So he is fully God and fully man. He is begotten of the father. He is fully God. But then Galatians 4 and4, but when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his son made of a woman, made under the law to redeem them that were under the law. So this God man, Jesus Christ, this this God man Jesus Christ is 100% God. And he's 100% man. 100% God. Well, why would he be man? Because 1 Timothy 2:5 tells us why God would become a man. It says, "For there is one God." For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. We could not get to God without a mediator. We could not get to a holy God because we're born in sin and shapen and iniquity and we're hopelessly lost. But when God became a man, when God became a man, Jesus can say, "No man can come unto the father but by me." And I'm talking about his sacrifice on the cross. I'm talking about when he hung there on that cross as our payment for our sins, bruised for our iniquities, chastisement of our peace was upon him when he laid down his life and that man Christ Jesus. You see, you got to you got to see this. He died on that cross. But surely, you know, God didn't die. >> To believe in the doctrine of the Trinity that they're three co-equal, co-eternal. You would have to believe that for three days the world only had twothirds of God. You can't kill God. How do you kill a spirit? How do you put a spirit to death? Where do you go to shoot it? Where do you go to stab it? Where do you go to poison it? The only way that he could be put to death was to become human, to become flesh. But God didn't die that day. The sacrifice died that day. That sacrificial lamb died that day. And you better be thankful that sacrificial lamb died that day. Because the only way out of misery to peace is through Jesus Christ. The only way out of bondage into freedom is through Jesus Christ. And the only way out of this earth into heaven is through Jesus Christ. There is no other way. Why don't if you feel that tonight, why don't you just raise your hands and worship for a moment? God is great and God is greatly God is great and God is greatly to be praised. A mediator a mediator. God can't die but that body that he was in that body that he was in could die. Acts chapter 20 and verse number 28 said to feed the church of God which he hath purchased with his own blood. He has purchased this church with his own blood. Now please remember please remember something with me. Anytime you're reading scripture you would do well to ask yourself several questions. Who is speaking? Who is speaking? and who is being spoken to. Okay? Who's speaking and who is being spoken to? And what is going on? What is going on in the surrounding of the scripture? What time is the scripture? I was having a beautiful Bible study with a precious man. I believe he's even here tonight, Brother Hines. We've been having a Bible study. And we we were talking about baptism. And he said, "Well, what about the thief on the cross? He was saved." And he's exactly right. He he was not redeemed, but he did make it in on a prayer. He did make it to paradise. He did make it to paradise on a prayer. But you say, "Well, the but the thief on the cross wasn't baptized." It baptism wasn't even offered at that time. The only baptism that was offered was John's baptism. But baptism in Jesus name for the remission of sins was not even offered at that time. But God honored and God said to the man, "This day you will be with me in paradise." So, so remember who's speaking? Who's being spoken to? What is the surroundings? Matthew 28:19. Jesus is commissioning the apostles to go into all the world and preach the gospel. He will soon He will soon ascend into heaven from the Mount of Olives. He will ascend into heaven. A cloud will receive him. But he makes this statement. He says, ' Go ye therefore, teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Please watch when people misquote this verse when they say Jesus said baptize them in the name of the Father, the name of the Son, and the name of the Holy Ghost. That is not what Jesus said. He said the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. In other words, one name singular of the father of the son and of the holy ghost. Now let's talk about the name for a moment. He says baptizing them in the name because father is not a name. Son is not a name and holy ghost is not a name. They are descriptive titles of one god. They are they are not names. They're descriptive titles. But let's look at the name of Jesus for a little bit. Hebrews chapter 1 and verse number four. Being made so much better than the angels. This is Jesus Christ. Being made so much better than the angels as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. He received the name of Jesus by inheritance. Inheritance is something that is passed down to you. He received his name by inheritance. Let's continue to read. Philippians chapter 2 verse number nine. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him who exalted Christ God. God hath highly also exalted him and given him a name which is above every name. Now he received his name by inheritance. That's what Hebrews says. Jesus received his name by inheritance. And now Philippians says that God exalted him and gave him a name which is above. And we can't make a big deal about the name. I know I know there's people say you folks just make a big deal. I don't believe you can make a big deal about the name. >> It's the name that is above >> every name. There is not a higher name than the name of Jesus Christ. >> Matter of fact, the name is the name is so important that in Acts chapter 4 verse number 12, listen to what Peter says. Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. There's not another name that can save you. >> There's only one name under heaven. And we ought to be so thankful that we know that name. I I'm telling you, we we ought to be so grateful that we we know the name of Jesus Christ, that that we can call out the name of Jesus Christ. Let's listen to Jesus in John 5:43. Let's listen to him here. He's debating with religious leaders. They're very upset with him. In John chapter 5 verse 43 Jesus said I am come in my father's name and you receive me not. If another shall come in his own name him ye will receive. Now Jesus said I've come in my father's name. How did I get that? I got that through inheritance. I came I came through the name that my creator my father gave me. That's that I inherited this name. This name was passed down to me. I I inherited this name. Well, let's look at the power of the name. Matthew 1:21. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sin. Luke 13:31 Luke 1 131. and behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name, Jesus. >> These two verses here tell of the first time that on human ears, the name of Jesus was mentioned, the name, but it wasn't the first time. It wasn't God just did. God God is not like us humans here that that, you know, uh we're still deciding. Uh uh Nolan and Flannry are still deciding on what that little baby girl's name is going to be. And I've settled it right now. I've told them I know I know what that baby's that that that girl should be called Kendra. I haven't got them sold on it yet. But but you see when it come to Jesus Christ, it when it come to Jesus Christ, people wouldn't stand around say, "Hey, what we going to call him? Hey, what we going what name is?" No, no, no, no. That name had be predetermined from eternity. That name had been chosen. I'm going to show you that in just a moment. That name had been chosen. That name had been chosen. Matter of fact, God let the prophets kind of chatter about it a little bit. He kind of got on. He kind of got on Isaiah in Isaiah chapter 9 and verse number six. He said, "I'll let you chatter a little bit about the name." And Isaiah began to write as God was moving upon him. And he said, "For unto us a child is born. Unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting father, the prince of peace." And then again in Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel." Well, you understand the angel didn't say call him Emmanuel. Emmanuel is who he was. He was God with us. And and and wonderful was not his name. And counselor was not his name. And mighty God was not his name. And Prince of Peace was not his name. And everlasting father was not his name. But you sure can attach the mighty God to the name of Jesus. You sure can attach the wonderful counselor to the name of Jesus. You sure can pronounce the the prince. How many of you been troubled? How many of you have had your world fall apart and all you could do is stand and say, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, help me, God. Jesus, I need you, God. Jesus, I I really And you just said one name and incredible things." Come on. Do I have anybody in the house that's ever had that happen to you? I I've had that happen to me. I've had that happen. Oh, yes. I've I've had that happen. Come on, let's give glory to God right now. I've had that happen. You know the story of Samson, the angel of the Lord, which was the Lord, manifest himself and came to Monoah's wife and said, "You're going to have a child named Samson." And then Monoah, he gets in and in Judges chapter 13 verse number 17. And Monoah comes and he talks to the angel of the Lord, which is really the Lord. And Monoah said unto the angel of the Lord, "What is thy name, that when these sayings come to pass, we may do the honor?" And the angel of the Lord said unto him, "Why ask this thou after my name, seeing it is secret? I haven't revealed it." You're asking after something that is secret. It's secret. But now another word for secret here is wonderful. Why? Why are you asking after my name? Seeing that it is a secret is it's it's I've not yet revealed my name. But why are you asking after my name? Look down to verse 21. Judges 13:21. But the angel of the Lord did no more appear to Monoah and to his wife. Then Monoah knew that he was an angel of the Lord. And Monoah said unto his wife, "We shall surely die because we have seen we have seen God." Manoah said, "Would you tell me your name?" And God didn't say, "Yeah, I'm Jehovah Gyra. I'm Jehovah Sister. I'm Jehovah Shalom." He said, "Why are you asking about my name?" Because my name is secret. Well, Manoah wasn't the only one that would ask about his name. In Genesis 32:24, Jacob was left alone, and there he wrestled with a man until the breaking of day. When he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh. The hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint as he wrestled with him. And he said, "Let me go, for the day breakth." And he said, "I will not let thee go." Jacob said, "I won't let you go except you bless me." And he said unto him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." And he said, "Thy name shall be called no more Jacob." This is where we get the term Israel, but Israel, for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hath prevailed. Watch this. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? and he blessed him there. Jacob called the name of the place Panhal, for I have seen God face to face and my life is preserved. Once again, Monoah asks, "What's your name?" He said, "Secret." Again, Jacob, who turns into Israel, asks, "What's your name?" God simply says to him, "Why are you asking? Why are you asking about my name?" I'm so glad tonight that I know that the name of the Father and the name of the Son >> and of the Holy Ghost >> is Jesus Christ. I'm so thankful. I'm so thankful. I know the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost is Jesus Christ. That's why it's a big deal that we stay oneness. That's why it's a big deal that we keep the name because I'm going to tell you something. When we get away from the oneness of God, we get away from baptism. And we go down the road of the creeds and the creed of baptizing. No one in the Bible, no one in the Bible was baptized any other way but in the name of Jesus Christ. No one in the Bible was baptized any other way but in the name of the Lord Jesus, the name of the Lord Jesus, or the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Nobody. Nobody was baptized any other way but in the name of Jesus. Say, "Well, Bill Carpenter," and I've had people even say this. "Well, Bill Carpenter, I just would rather believe Jesus over Peter and Paul." All right. Do you realize how messed up that is? >> Because Jesus didn't write anything. >> Well, yeah, he did. He wrote in the dirt, but he erased it. Remember that? So if we're going to if we're going to cast a light on Peter and Paul, then we have to throw it all away. But when we rightly divide the word of truth and we understand nobody's being baptized in Matthew 28:19, nobody's there in the water. He is commissioning his disciples to go into all the world and baptize them in the name of the father and of the of the son and of the holy ghost. And they understood what he meant. He meant baptize them in my name. >> In the name of Jesus. You see, you've heard me say this before. You You've heard me say this before. Nolan, come over here and get some water. Come here. Get some water. Go back. Go back. Sit down. While you're thinking about Kendra, go back. Sit down. If I say to Nolan, Nolan, would you bring me my water back? If I say to Nolan, Nolan, would you bring me my water back? And Nolan says back to me, Sister Hannah. Nolan says back. Say it back. >> Say it again. >> Nolan, would you bring me my water? >> Has Nolan done what I said? Do what's he done? He's repeated. But if I say, Nolan, bring me my water. and he's bringing me my water, he has done what I've asked him to do. That's why in Acts 2:38, and by the way, Matthew, who wrote Matthew 28:19, was at Acts 2:38. And when Peter stood up and said, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Matthew was there. Matthew knew you're not repeating after him. You're doing what he said. The name, the name, the name is very important. Very important. Baptism. Matthew 16:17. It's important after baptism. Something happens to us even after we're baptized. We have the name. Matthew or excuse me, Mark chapter 16 verse number 17. And these signs shall follow them that believe in my name. They shall cast out devils in my name. They shall cast out devils and they shall speak with new tongues. I'm going to tell you something, friend. I'm not one of these guys that are goofy and spooky about demons and all that. But I am telling you, there are evil spirits >> and there are destructive spirits that if we don't identify them, will walk right into our homes and right into our children and right into our lives. And we have to know when it's time to say, "Not here. Not in my house. In the name of Jesus Christ, you got to leave this marriage. You got to leave my life. I'm tired of being tormented. I'm tired of all this." In the name of Jesus, you got to leave the name of Jesus. I'm glad that the name of Jesus is what brings remission of sins. says it in Luke 24:47, "And that repentance and remission of sin should be preached in his name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem." John 20 verse number 31. But these are written. John talks about all the miracles that were done. He talks about all the miracles that were done. And he says, 'But these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God, and that believing you might have life through his name. I'm so thankful for that tonight when we need a miracle. I I we we anointed and prayed for Sister White tonight. But listen, you didn't hear me, Sister Franklin, say, "Sister White, in the name of Kenny Carpenter, in the name of Penny Carpenter, in the name of Gloria Franklin, in the name of Chad Ericson." No, no, no, no. When we go to pray for the sick, we've got faith in a name that is above every name. It is the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. It is the name of the creator. It is the name of God in flesh. And it is the name, It is the name that is active. I am sold. Come on, stand with me right now. If you're thankful for the name of Jesus tonight. Oh, I'm so thankful for the name of Jesus. I'm so thankful for the name of Jesus. Come on. If you're thankful for that name, thank you, Lord, for that name. Thank you, God, for that name. Thank you for that name. >> I have life through that name. I have miracles through that name. I have the remission of sins through that name. No wonder when those that have crucified Jesus Christ, Peter preached to them. He said, "You crucified him." They said, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said unto them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you." How? >> The name of Jesus Christ. Say, "Well, Carry, I'm here. Somebody's invited me to church tonight. I've been coming to church, but if you if you really knew how messed up my life is, if you Bill Carpenter, if you really knew I'm I'm I'm coming here and and and and but and if you just Bill Carpenter, if you just really knew how messed up my life is, then you would understand how that I just don't think there's any hope for me to change. Would you not leave till I read my last few verses? is found in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse number N. It is dedicated tonight to those that to those who feel they have no hope. It is dedicated tonight to those that have tried to break free from the bondage of sin. It is dedicated to them tonight that feel like you're just in a vice. It is dedicated to you right now. And here it is. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Be not deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolattors, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkers, nor revilers, nor extortioners shall inhabit the kingdom of God. Pastor, stop. Are you just trying to make me more miserable? You're telling me I can't get in the kingdom of God, and that's the things I'm I'm guilty of. You name some things I'm guilty, but I didn't stop reading. >> Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you, but you are washed. You are sanctified. You are justified in the name of our Lord Jesus and by the spirit of our great God. Oh, thank God he could break. Could we just praise him right now? Can we just worship him right now? Can we magnify him right now? Oh God, you can break any hold. You can break the thievery. You can break the sexual addiction. You can break the sexual perversion. You can break all this in the name of Jesus. You can break all this tonight. Oh, come on. Praise him right now with me. Praise him. In the name of Jesus, the wonderful name of Jesus, the lovely name of Jesus, the powerful name of Jesus, the almighty name of Jesus. There's power in that name of Jesus. >> Oh yes, Lord. >> Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Glory. Glory. Glory. Glory. Glory. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. I'm not a singer, and you know it, but I love to sing. I'm glad I know who Jesus is. I'm glad I know who Jesus is. If you know it, help me sing it. Drown me out. He's more than just a story. He is the king of glory. I'm glad I know who Jesus is. If you're glad, raise your hands right now. Sing with me. I'm glad I know who Jesus is. I'm glad I know who Jesus is. He's more than just a story. He is the King of glory. I'm glad I know who Jesus is. This is why I'm doing this. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know who Jesus is. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know who Jesus is. Cuz he's the lily of my valley. He's my bright and morning star. He's the fairest of 10,000. Everybody ought to know. Come on, just give him praise right now. When you're done, consider yourself dismissed. Thank you, Lord. God, I thank you tonight, Lord. I praise you tonight, God. I magnify you tonight, Lord. Glory to God. Glory to God. Come on, Holy Ghost. Come on, Holy Ghost. Move here tonight. Oh, move here tonight. Move here tonight. Move here tonight. Move here tonight. Move here tonight. Now, I'm going to just tell you. I'm just going to tell you like it is tonight. Hey, I don't have any problem doing this. If you need to go home, you can go home. But I'll sleep a whole lot better knowing that I give an opportunity. Is there anybody want to come to this altar and just lift your hands for a couple of moments and give Jesus Christ praise and honor and glory? You come right now if you want to. Thank you, Lord. If you got to go, I know some of you get up early in the morning, go on home. We'll see you Sunday morning. I love you, Lord. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know who Jesus is. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know who Jesus is. Oh, he's a lily of my valley. He's my bright and morning star. Oh, he's the fairest of 10,000. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know. Go ahead. Right now, those of you that are suffering with depression, come on. Those of you that are battling with depression right now, begin to say the name of Jesus. Jesus is. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know. Everybody ought to know who Jesus is. Oh, he's the fairest of 10,000. Oh, he's the bright and morning star. Oh, he's the fairest of 10,000. Oh, everybody ought to know if you're sick in your body, would you just lay your hand on your body right now and begin to pray in the name of Jesus tonight. Oh, if you're troubled in your mind, put your hand on your head right now. Come on. There's power in that name. Such were some of you, but you've been washed. You've been sanctified in the name of the Lord Jesus. >> Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Come on. There's power in that name right now. There's power in that name right now. Oh, there's power in the name of Jesus right now. There's power in the name of Jesus right now. Jesus. Jesus. I want you to help me tonight. There's power in that name of Jesus right now. There's power in that name. I want you to help me. There's people that are not here that need a prayer tonight. There's power in the name of Jesus. There's power in the name of Jesus over Gloria Zen. There's power in the name of Jesus over Mother F. There's power in the name of Jesus over Sister Lee. There's power in the name of Jesus over Maria Hanley. There's power in the name of Jesus over Kim Kirby. There's power in the name of Jesus over Bill Burkett. There's power in the name of Jesus. There's power in the name of Jesus. Come on. There's power in the name of Jesus. There's power in the name of Jesus. There's power for your loved one. You hear me tonight? There's power for your loved one. That's life is a wreck tonight. There's power. There's power, Kelly. There's power in the name of Jesus tonight. There's power in the name of Jesus tonight. Come on, speak. Speak it out. Oh, God. There's power. There's power. There's power. What if you knew that there was a man beating one of your kinfolk? You knew that in that house, my brother, my sister, my father, my mother, my cousin, he's being beat by a man. I'm stronger than the man that's beating them. The song says, "Why didn't you tell me of the Savior above? Why didn't you tell me of his wonderful love?" Can I tell you, hell fights us just like this? As long as hell can beat up on souls, hell will beat up on souls. >> And if we're not praying for them, that's the hope of hell. The hope of hell is that you never lift your voice. The hope of hell is that you get tired of praying for them. The hope of hell is that you see how messed up they are, that you'll just believe that there's no hope. But I just believe on a midweek Bible study that faith has got a hold of some people tonight. And we're going to take a couple of moments. Father, I pray for every family member in this church that is addicted to alcohol. I pray for every alcoholic that is connected to this church. I pray for every drug addicted person that's that's connected to this church. Fake them in the name of Jesus Christ. Get out of their mind. Get out of their lives. Get out of the room. They got to make the decision on their own. Come on, help me pray. Help me pray. Help me pray. Help me pray. Spirit of suicide, you get out of that room right now. Spirit of drug addiction, you get out of that room right now. I cast that devil out. I cast that devil out in the name of Jesus. I cast that devil out right now. Come on, pray with me. Pray with me tonight. Don't Don't mumble a prayer. Be bold. Have authority. Be bold. Have authority. Be bold. Yala mama. Come on. Cry it out. Cry it out tonight. Don't be timid. Don't be shy. I rebuke the spirit over every prodigal home. God, I rebuke the spirit over every prodigal home. God. Years gone by. that were families that wouldn't be in the house of God. But the enemy begin to deceive them. The enemy begin to work on their mind. And tonight, they're far from you. Devil, I rebuke you off their mind. I rebuke you off their mind right now. God, I rebuke you off their mind. I rebuke him off their mind right now. The name of Jesus. The name of Jesus. The name of Jesus. The name of Jesus. Oh God. The name of Jesus. The name of Jesus. The name of Jesus. the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus. Would you listen to me right now privately? You need to let your loved ones know I'm praying for you. You need to let them know I'm praying. You need to make a phone call tonight. There's phone calls ought to go out of this place tonight. I'm praying for you. I just want you to know I'm praying for you, brother. Sister, I want you to know I'm praying for you. Cousin, I want you to know I'm praying for you. Dad, I want you to know I'm praying for you. You know I'm praying for you. You know, yesterday I got the call that they were taking brother Callaway to Fort Sanders Hospital and believe he was having a heart attack. I got there to the emergency room, Brother Nolan. And I went in and there was Brother Callaway and Dwayne, his son, and you know, Brother Callaway's hair was all disheveled. and uh he thought he was having a heart attack and he had some sweatpants on a t-shirt and uh he's laying there in the bed. He's got a container that he's going to throw up. He's going he's got a container there he's holding and we begin to pray. He begin to pray and I told the nurse I said if you let me go back I'll just stay a few moments. I promise you you just let me go back and pray for him. And the nurse was so thankful so glad let me go back. Here's what got me. It blessed me. I was getting ready to leave. I said, "Bro, Callaway, how you feel?" And a big smile came over his face. He said, "I feel so much better after seeing you." >> Now, I didn't say I healed him. Somehow that precious saint of God just got faith in his heart when he saw somebody pray. When I prayed for him, he was crying out the name of Jesus. I'm telling you, you got Kim folk that are bound. You can get them here Sunday morning. You got 10 folk that are bounded. All it'll take, all it'll take you say, "Hey, we've been praying for you." And I'm going to get off that phone and they're going to say, "Man, thank God. Somebody's praying for me. Somebody's praying for me. Thank you. God bless you. Would you shake hands with two or three people? Bring somebody back Sunday. Let's preach to them. See their lives change in Jesus name.
