Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Heaven's Conversation About Job
- God, not Satan, brings Job's name up; Satan admits he has walked by Job's house and found it hedged about by God's protection.
- God permits Satan to touch all that Job has, but not his life; in one day Job loses his livestock, his fields, and his ten children.
Scriptures: Job 1:6-22; Job 2:1-3
Blessed Be the Name of the Lord
- Job arose, tore his mantle, shaved his head, and worshipped: the Lord gave, the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
- He resolves to be found in the house of God, in his prayer room, living for God whatever the year brings, with hands lifted.
- When the angels return, Satan says nothing; God brings Job up again — he still holds fast his integrity though moved against without cause.
Scriptures: Job 1:20-22; Job 2:1-3
Skin for Skin — and Vindication
- Satan's second challenge says a man will give all he has for his life; Job is smitten with boils and scrapes himself among the ashes.
- The devil attacks at seed-sowing time: rob a believer today and there is no harvest tomorrow.
- God never told Job it was a test; at the end God vindicates Job, rebukes Eliphaz and his friends, and accepts Job's prayer for them.
- Appeal: give God something to talk about — lift your hands and bless his name again.
Scriptures: Job 2:4; Job 42:7-8

Come on and worship the Lord Jesus With me this morning Job chapter one and verse number six Now there was a day when The sons of God came to present themselves Before the Lord and Satan came also among them And the Lord said onto Satan Whence cometh thou? Then Satan answered the Lord and said From going to and fro in the earth And from walking up and down in it And the Lord said onto Satan Hast thou considered my servant Job There is none like him in the earth A perfect and an upright man One that feareth God and escheweth evil Then Satan answered the Lord and said Doth Job fear God for nought?
Hast not thou made a hedge about him And about his house And about all that he hath on every side? Thou has blessed the work of his hands And his substance is increased in the land But put forth thine hand now And touch all that he hath And he will curse the to thy face. The Lord said onto Satan Behold all that he hath is in thy power Only upon himself put not forth thine hand So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord Verse twenty.
Then Job arose and rent his mantle And shaved his head and fell down Upon the ground and worshipped and said Naked came I out of mother's womb And naked shall I return thither The Lord gave and the Lord hast taken away Blessed be the name of the Lord In all this Job sinned not Nor charged God foolishly Chapter two, verse one. Again there was A day when the sons of God came To present themselves before the Lord And Satan came also among them To present himself before the Lord And the Lord said onto Satan From whence comest thou And Satan answered the Lord and said From going to and for in the earth And from walking up and down in it And the Lord said onto Satan Hast thou considered my servant Job You may be seated this morning While captive on hold Waiting for some information From a department store Notice I said captive on hold They piped some music in my ears I don't choose on my own But it stuck in my head that day And I said to myself I think I'm going to make a sermon out of that one day But the woman or man, I can't remember which, Simply said let's give them something to talk about Well I want to preach today Let's give God something to talk about It's interesting to note that God and Satan Were in a conversation And God brought Job's name up Satan didn't bring him up God brought him up But yet Satan had been to Job's house Because he knew a lot about Job's house He knew that Job's house was hedged up spiritually He knew that there was no way to get in to Job's house It was hedged up by God's protective army, the angels He knew that he would like to destroy Job's house You see he would like to have gotten hold of his crops He would like to have gotten hold of his livestock He would like to have gotten hold of his children He had been there He had walked by the address Only to be turned away by an angelic host Saying no no no, this is God's man inside this hedge Satan had looked over the hedge Satan had seen the increase of Job And the blessing of Job Job's righteous life Job's life of righteousness And Job's life of doing right Living right, being right Caused God to say to Satan Have you considered my servant Job Of which then the great slanderer And that's what Satan is He's a slanderer He has to slander people You know he's always in the slandering business He said now surely God You understand that Job doesn't serve you for nothing Now you know that Job is not living right Doing right for nought, nothing For you've blessed the fruit of the womb You have blessed the barn You have blessed the field You have blessed commerce Oh God surely you understand This is the reason that Job has done these things Job is not an upright man because of You alone Job is an upright man because of everything You've blessed him with And God said, oh is that right Yes that's exactly how it is He said well you can go And you can touch whatever you want to touch In Job's house but simply do not touch his life Do not touch, you cannot have his life Don't touch his life And so we know Satan went forth God allowed the hedge to be taken down And boy did Satan not start quickly It was the livestock that was taken It was fields that got caught on fire by lightning It was a storm, a tornado, that came While all Job's children were feasting in a house It was a storm that blew the house down And killed all ten of Job's children And they lined up there that day For an audience with Job And one after the other It was the livestock has been taken It was the fields have been burned up It was your children are now dead You've lost everything Everything Satan told God that Job Served Him for It was taken away But how did Job respond to this?
Verse twenty says that Job arose from the ground And he rent his mantle And he shaved his head And he fell back down on the ground And began to worship God He said I was naked when I came into this world And I'll be naked when I go out He said the Lord hath blessed me And the Lord hath given to me And he said the Lord has decided To take away and upon that I can serve a God of giving And I can also serve a God of taking Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Let me tell you something friend I want to give God something to talk about I want to give God a life That whether 2014 brings me prosperity Or 2014 brings me pain I'm going to stand to my feet Lift both of my hands And bless the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I wish somebody would really bless Him today I wish somebody would bless him today Come on let's give him something to talk about Let's give God something to talk about Come on bless His name here in the auditorium Now we know that Satan the slanderer Next time the angels had to give an account Of their lives Satan had to come Notice that Satan does not say to God Hey God you were right You had it down right God You know there are some things The devil wants to keep quiet But I'm ready to give God something To talk about There are some things You know Satan Satan didn't bring it up and say Hey God you know the last time I was called in I had to give an account I know that we got in this little thing about Job Well I want you to know God That man passed the test No no he zipped his lip and kept it quiet He just stood there in front of God But God had something to talk about God had something He wanted to talk about Chapter two said again there was a day When the sons of God came to present themselves Before the Lord and Satan came also among them To present himself before the Lord And the Lord said onto Satan From whence comest thou?
Satan answered the Lord and said From going to and fro in the earth And from walking up and down in it And the Lord said onto Satan Hast thou considered my servant Job There is none like him in the earth A perfect and upright man One that fears God and escheweth evil And still he holdeth fast his integrity Although thou modest me against him To destroy him without cause He said you know that old boy is still Holding firm to his integrity You know that he's lost his farm He's lost his money He's lost his kids You know the fields The Bible says that while his servants Were plowing the Sabeans came down And fell on the servants and took them You always plow during seed sowing time If there is ever a time the devil wants to attack you It's during seed sowing time Because if I don't sow today I'll have no harvest tomorrow So he tries to rob us of our today That's why right now He would love for some of you To not put your best foot forward Worshipping God because if he can rob you today He will rob you of your harvest tomorrow.
And so he took his tomorrow harvest He took his children Which represented his future And he took all that But old Job held on to his integrity And he said I will still live for God I will still serve God And God said to Satan Satan you have moved me to destroy him without any cause He loves me, he doesn't have to have fields And houses and chidden He loves me regardless Well Satan wasn't finished Well yeah but God Satan answered in verse four Satan answered the Lord and said Skin for skin yea all that a man hath Will he give for his life Said oh, skin for skin God Said really if you touch him Job is self centered If you touch old Job God said well alright You can have him but you can't take his life He went and smote him with a sickness An infection and Job was smitten with boils From the top of his head to the soles of his feet Now friend I have had a boil or two in my lifetime And one or two, they are no fun But you be covered with boils from your head to your toe He took and broke a piece of pottery And scraped to try to find comfort Sitting down among the ashes Old Job went through some trying times Yes Job had some times that he didn't understand Job had some trying times But oh chapter forty-two, the end of it Job passes his test And in Job chapter forty-two and verse seven It says these words And it was so that after the Lord Had spoken these words onto Job The Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite My wrath is kindled against thee And against thy two friends For ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right As my servant Job hath Therefore take onto you seven bullocks And seven rams and go to my servant Job And offer up for yourselves a burnt offering And my servant Job shall pray for you For him will I accept lest I deal with you After your folly in that you have not spoken Of me the thing which is right like my servant Job.
Can I tell you we have no incidents Where God ever told Job the is a test Job This is only a test Job This is not really something you're going to go through No Job just walked his life But the whole time Job was walking his life God kept saying up in heaven My servant Job, my servant Job, my servant Job I want to give God something to talk about I want whatever 2014 brings my way or your way I want to be found in the house of God I want to be found in my prayer room I want to be found living for God Whatever is taken from me in 2014 Or whiter is added to me in 2014 Praise God I want to be found with my hands Lifted saying God you give and you take away But blessed be the name of the Lord Anybody else feel like that in the house today?
Anybody feel like just standing and saying God it's all about You Lord It's all about You Come on it's all about You God Come on let's give God something to talk about Come on He's not seen your hands lifted in quite awhile He's not heard your praise in quite awhile Your bankruptcy made you quiet up with your praise Your divorce caused you to lower your hands They have not been lifted since that God is saying I would like to have something to talk about Here in heaven
