Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Cain and Abel: the first was God's

  • Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof, and the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering.
  • Cain, in process of time, simply brought an offering; God had not respect to it, and Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
  • The first is the best: to give God the firstlings is to say back to him that he is first and best.

Scriptures: Genesis 4:1-6

Bring the firstlings to his house

  • Unto the place which the Lord your God shall choose to put his name, thither you bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the firstlings of your herds and of your flocks.
  • Abel acted on an instinct to give God the first; the law of giving came later, because sin had hardened man's heart.

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 12:5-6

Tithes before the law

  • Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of the most high God, brought forth bread and wine and blessed Abram — and Abram gave him tithes of all.
  • Jacob vowed a vow: if God will be with me and keep me and give me bread and raiment, then shall the Lord be my God, and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
  • God's presence, protection, provisions, and peace are answered with a house of God and the tenth — rules without relationship lead to rebellion.

Scriptures: Genesis 14:18-20; Genesis 28:20-22

Will a man rob God?

  • I am the Lord, I change not; even from the days of your fathers you have gone away from my ordinances — return unto me, and I will return unto you.
  • Will a man rob God? Ye have robbed me in tithes and offerings; the tithe is the Lord's, entrusted to us for the furtherance of the gospel.
  • Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts: money matters, because money moves the mission.

Scriptures: Malachi 3:6-10

people are at in the spirit and their needs you know sometimes you say this the right way we need diversity in our pulpit we don't need every minister as a matter of fact i have made this statement to you before and you know it one man cannot perfect this church there's a fivefold ministry and that fivefold ministry perfects the church so brother morgan's not gonna preach like brother carpenter he's not gonna preach like brother erickson or anyone else on the pastoral team he's very he's very unique in his presentation of the gospel and i know that you're going to be extremely extremely before honey don't keep them standing so long and so i'll try to do better sister carpenter genesis 4 1 adam knew his wife eve and she conceived and bear cain and said i have gotten a man from the lord she again bear his brother abel abel was a keeper of sheep but cain was a tiller of the ground and in process of time it came to pass that cain brought the brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the lord and abel he also brought of the first lings of his flock and of the fat thereof and the lord had respect unto abel and to his offering but unto cain and to his offering he had not respect and cain was very roth and his countenance failed and the lord said unto cain why aren't thou wroth and why is thy countenance fallen tonight i want to continue on this lesson money money matters money matters father i love you tonight thank you for your word lord i thank you for the strong tower students god that are in the hearing tonight i thank you lord for them which are the great future of our church and god i want them to be blessed god this evening lord would you anoint me for the next few moments as i teach this bible lesson on money matters i'll give you praise and give you honor and give you glory in jesus name we pray amen and amen you may be seated strong tower tonight the greatest break that you'll have in life when it has to do with money the greatest break that you will have a matter of fact i not only give that comment to our strong tower students but i give it to everyone tonight financially the biggest break that a person will ever receive in life is in reference to tithing and offerings it's the greatest break it's the greatest advantage uh it's it's the greatest um if i could say leveling of the field in life to get ahead in life tithing and offerings tithing and offerings is the greatest break let's just review for a moment some of the things that we covered last wednesday evening we got a perspective of money a biblical perspective of money i believe we could sum it up last wednesday night by saying money will not produce happiness or contentment money will not produce happiness or contentment money is a tool we use to provide for ourselves and family with the things that are essential for basic life money is simply a tool that we use to provide for our families the basic essentials that are needed here in this world as a matter of fact money our faith the word of god our faith in god is revealed through god's word as it pertains as it pertains as it pertains to money it's interesting tonight as we begin because last wednesday night we mainly focused on just the subject of money and how we should view money how we should view money by from a biblical standpoint uh but tonight we're going to zero in and focus in on that part of money that god will test our faith in him through how we are the steward of money we have the first recorded although it's not referred to as tithing the principle is there i read it to you this evening as a text it is two brothers that come before the lord to worship the bible says in verse 4 of chapter 4 that abel brought of the first lings of his flock and of the fat thereof the first lings of his flock and of the fat thereof and the lord had respect unto abel and to his offering now we have to understand that when god made adam and eve in his image and in his likeness that sin did so mar them sin did take away from the image and the likeness of god because they had sinned but you've got to understand the nature of sin it starts with that disobedience but it's ever progressing and going downward and going into worse and worse acts now the reason that we are given the law in the old testament the law of god chiseled in stone the law of god do you know why we have the law of god because of how hard and sinful man's heart had hardened over time you see when god made adam and eve they had an instinct in them of right and wrong they had a natural instinct in them of what belonged to god and and and their behavior and i'll prove it with this simple with this simple story hundreds of years before moses came down with a piece of rock chiseled with the finger of god that said thou shall not commit adultery hundreds of years before moses came down with that it was a young boy by the name of joseph who was propositioned by another man's wife to come and lay in the bed of adultery and joseph said to her how could i do this great sin in god's sight well how did joseph know that because there was a natural instinct that was in him to do what was right how did cain and abel know to bring god an offering because it was a natural instinct to bring god to bring god an offering but did you catch that little phrase in verse number 3 where it simply said in the process of time in the process of time it meant as time would go on evidently cain decided to simply bring an offering just an offering and the bible says that god did not have respect to cain's offering now i want you to know something there is something about worshiping and obeying god that first touches your emotions it first touches your emotions it is a wonderful thing to please the lord it's a wonderful thing to do what's right it's a wonderful thing to lay down at night and know that i have done the will of god or the word of god it's a it's a wonderful thing to the emotions to know that came through the process of time simply brought an offering and god did not have respect to that offering now we can surmise what it is no one no one truly knows how that cain knew that his offering was rejected and abel knew that his offering was accepted now the most popular thing and it would make sense to me is that god would come down in fire and consume the sacrifice for after all the sacrifice or the offering was his if that would be the case then we would understand that cain was waiting for fire to fall but fire never failed and the bible says the bible says that god didn't have respect to abel's sacrifice and then look at verse 5 for a moment look at what god involved in cain his emotions his emotions the bible says cain was very rough he was angry anger anger is an emotion anger is an emotion and so when cain did not bring to god the firstlings of his offering and the fat thereof god rejected it and because god rejected it it affected cain's emotions he was angry he was furious he was wroth and then you you didn't understand this i know you do the next thing your emotions will affect is your face good or bad your emotions will affect your face how can you prove this verse 5 and cain was very roth and his countenance fail so you could look at cain and understand that his emotions of anger has affected his outward face he is showing what is going on on the inside but now what happened to his brother abel well the bible says that abel brought of the first lings of his flock and of the fat thereof here is a bible typology of tithing and offerings tithing is the first fruits it is the firstlings now let me ask you why would god require the first simply because the first is the best and we reflect our faith about god in the obedience that we give in that we give of tithe and offerings we are saying back to god god you are the best that's really what we do with our worship our worship is telling is telling god you're the best god your attendance here tonight on a wednesday night when people's mid-week services the numbers are plummeting some of them don't even have 25 of the congregation that they have on sunday morning because they are plummeting in that area but here tonight here we are here you are here we are collectively as a church giving god praise and glory and honor you know what we're saying to god tonight god you're worth a wednesday night god you're worth a wednesday night lord lord you're worth god you're worth a wednesday brother jeff rutherford told me something the other night he had surgery on his arm he had surgery on his arm on a monday and uh come wednesday he was still quite sore but he said i remember on that monday we all gathered around and they prayed lord be with me today be with me today be with me now on this monday and he said the lord was with him and the surgery was successful but come wednesday he was still a little sore and he contemplated not coming to church on wednesday night and he said he heard something go something like this he said you asked me to be with you on monday i'm asking you to come be with me tonight and he did is it amazing we want a 24 7 god but we kind of failed sometime on giving god just a little time during the week but what we're doing here tonight church we're saying to god god you are the best the first links and of the fat thereof this firstling's meant god i'm giving you of the first the firstfruits the first things of the flock which are normally the very best god i'm giving them i'm giving it to you but now turn to deuteronomy chapter 12 and verse number five time had went on and now god has to give a law about giving god has to give a law when it comes to giving because man's heart man's heart is hardened with sin that's why we have the old testament the old the law in the old testament man's heart is hardened deuteronomy 22 excuse me deuteronomy 12 verse 5 listen to god but unto the place which the lord your god shall choose out of all the tribes to put his name there even unto his habitation shall you seek he's talking about his house and thither shall you come and thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings your sacrifices and your tithes and heave offerings of your hand and your vows and your free will offerings and the firstlings of your herds and of the flock you see okay abel did it because sin hadn't been around long enough to so harden his heart abel just stepped out there and had the instinct to just naturally say god i give you the first when that when that first lamb was born he said oh praise god that's god's lamb right there the first is always god's isn't doesn't that follow typology is our god not the first and is he not the last so this is being is being set here in the fourth chapter of genesis now go with me over to the 14th chapter of genesis and again let me say to you let me say to you what i'm about to read to you is hundreds of years before god had to say thou shalt tithe thou shalt bring the tenth hundreds of years before a law again am i getting my point across the law dealt with a hardened sinful heart but now this is hundreds of years before abraham has went out to battle and in genesis chapter 14 verse number 18 god gives abraham the victory and abraham's coming back with with he's coming back with two things he's coming back with what the enemy took from him and he's coming back with a little bit more he's coming back with what the enemy took and a little bit more and this interesting fellow meets him verse 18. and melchizedek king of salem brought forth bread and wine and he was the priest of the most high god now melchizedek is an old testament typology again we're into typology now is old testament typology of jesus christ it's old testament typology of jesus christ the bible says that melchizedek was king of salem king of salem salem means peace peace he was the king of salem well i know another prince of peace jesus christ melchizedek was the king authority of peace jesus christ was the prince prince means ruler of peace aren't you thankful that jesus christ rules our peace that's why the bible says let the peace of god rule your heart let the prince of peace rule in your life and melchizedek king of salem brought forth bread and wine he brought forth bread and wine i know of another time that jesus christ brought forth bread and wine at the last supper he said take this bread and eat this is my body that is broken for you take this cup and drink this is the this is the new testament in in my blood so are you seeing the typology that is connected here and then melchizedek was not only king but he was also priest he was also priest no other king in the bible had ever been both king and priest but jesus christ this typology here jesus christ is both proclaimed to be not only a king but he is the king of kings he's the king of kings but he's not only the king of kings the bible says that jesus christ is our great high priest he's our great not only does he rule over man as king but he turns around and intercedes for man as a priest he's both king and priest now here melchizedek comes he's got bread and wine and he meets abraham verse 8 19 and he blessed him again bible typology here and he blessed him now i got news for you this blessing is not an off-the-cuff non-shalon i bless you when god blesses you you know you're blessed when god blesses you you just absolutely know i'm walking in the favor of god i'm walking in the blessings of all i'm walking in the blessings of god melchizedek blessed abraham jesus christ blessed his disciples before he ascended he blessed him in verse 19. he blessed him and said bless me abram of the most high god possessor of heaven and earth blessed and blessed be the most high god which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand now watch out melchizedek's just blessing he's blessing abram he's just blessing him watch what abraham does and he gave him tithes of all abraham turned around and just like abel knew to approach god in the first slings and the fat thereof tithes and offerings abraham recognized the symbolism in melchizedek and when melchizedek came and melchizedek brought him refreshments bread and wine and brought him a blessing abraham stood back stood back and said now i will give you tithes of all because it was that natural instinct can i tell you that our great high priest jesus christ gave us something better than a measly loaf of bread and a measly little old cup of wine he gave us his flesh and he gave us his blood and he has given us how many believe you're blessed tonight come on how many believe you're blessed whoa how many believe you're blessed i'm blessed i'm blessed that's the reason we tithe and we give our offerings is because it's an outward open expression to our god you are first and you are the best turn over with me to genesis chapter 28 and verse number 20. now it's abraham's grace abraham's grandson it's abraham's grandson jacob abraham's grandson jacob has found himself away from home and very fearful but god meets abraham's grandson jacob and god begins to make promises to jacob god begins to say jacob the same promises that i made with your grandfather abraham the same promises i made with your father isaac those same promises jacob i'm going to make with you they're going to be with you and god promised jacob and the bible says that in verse 20 and genesis 28 and 20 the bible says and jacob vowed a vow saying if god be with me follow this closely now if god be with me comma and will keep me in this way that i go comma and will give me bread to eat comma and rhema to put on comma so that i come again to my father's house in peace comma shall the lord be my god and this stone which i have set for a pillar shall be god's house and of all that thou shalt give me i will surely give the tenth or tithe unto thee you see you've got to get your mind out of it's just one way but you can't do it to get you got to do it because you're in a relationship with melchizedek you're in a relationship with jesus christ and let me say this rules without relationship lead to rebellion you shouldn't worship god out of a fear of hell you shouldn't worship god out of a fear of cancer or out of a fear of some judgment of god you ought to worship him because you love him you ought to worship him because he's the best there is there is no other god he is the very best his word is the very best you ought to get excited about this tonight that's the reason we ought to worship god worshiping god is the greatest is the greatest sedative you could ever give yourself can i tell you that i've received news before that's caused my knees to knock and my hands to tremble can i tell you and i'm not alone in here but we've heard news before that has rocked our world and turned us upside down but where do you turn when the world is turned upside down finds you a prayer chapel find you a prayer closet find you a place that you have to stagger to get into and hear your voices trembling but start saying jesus i need you lord jesus i need you and watch this power begin to erupt in your life get a relationship with jesus don't get a relationship with a pew don't get a relationship with a church go get a relationship with inking paper ink and paper in a bible get a relationship with a living life lord that can walk into your life get a relationship he said god you've said you're going to do some pretty awesome things and god i'm telling you come through and how many knows god always comes through what did god promise him what did god promise him go back to verse number 20 we'll follow it back down if god be with me somebody say that's his presence if god be with me that's the presence and will keep me in this way that i go somebody say that's protection and will give me bread to eat and raiment to put on somebody say that's provisions so that i come again to my father's house in peace then shall the lord be my god that's peace what have you just covered his presence his protection what more she what more do we need tonight church his presence his protection his provisions and his peace i'm telling you the bible says this some of you got in-laws and outlaws you ain't never been able to get along with some of you've got people in your life that you've been at war for several you you worse than the hatfields and the mccoys but can i tell you something tonight the bible says that when a man's ways please the lord that he even maketh his enemies to be at peace with him instead of trying to smoke peace pipe with everybody why don't you just throw your peace pipe down on the altar get in love with almighty god and let god begin to work in your life when a man's ways please the lord he maketh even his enemies jacob said god you give me all this your presence your protection your provisions your peace he said if all this comes god i'll have me a house of god and everything that i receive i will surely give unto thee the tenth now we are in the first book of the bible let's go all the way to the last book of the bible it's a book the last book of the old testament excuse me the last book of the old testament is malachi now you do know by now with the lesson that i have presented we start off in the new testament we start off in the in in the old testament in the book of genesis man's heart is sinful but it's not fully completely polluted with sin that's why we have abel stepping out there and saying i just got a feeling that god ought to have the first and that not only should god get the first but he ought he should also get some some fat attitude he ought to get some he ought to get some offerings add to it that's why abraham that's why abraham brother nolan came from that battle here comes melchizedek with bread and wine and a blessing and and abraham said start counting them out get all the tithe melchizedek i'm gonna i'm gonna the tithe are going to you that's why jacob would tell god god if you give me that presence that protection that provision that peace god i'll give a tenth of all that comes my way but now we're in the book of malachi okay man's had several thousands years to get his heart as a rock okay he has got i mean he he is god is hard his heart is as hard as a rock and in malachi chapter 3 and verse number 7 god says i won't talk to you no no go back to verse six malachi chapter three and verse number six somebody say praise the lord let's read verse six together and then i'll i'll i'll continue to read but i'd like for you to read this together now this is god speaking let's read it together i'll start for i am the lord and he does what he changes not verse seven now i'm going to read verse 7. even from the days of your fathers you ye have gone away from my ordinances and have not kept them return unto me and i will return unto you saith the lord of hosts but you said wherein shall we return see how hard their heart is they're not even close to god and they don't even realize that they're not close to god god says it's been running in your family you've not kept the ordinances you've went away from them and god says return unto me is it that isn't that wonderful that god would have the mercy to say come on back return unto me but what was their response but she said where where in shall we return huh uh huh return where we've been returned what are you talking about god and god answers will a man rob god will a man rob god now let me show you something there god doesn't need god does not need one penny that we have god doesn't need it but we need the blessing that comes by obedience the word rob means to take something by force that doesn't belong to you the tithe does not belong to us the bible expressively says the tithe is the lord's it's the lord's so what we do when we don't give god he entrusts us he entrusts us with what is his he he entrusts us to bring it to the right place to put it in the right circulation for the promotion of the gospel and let me say this tonight's lesson is entitled money matters and i'm going to tell you something money moves the mission money moves the mission we can cry and weep over missionaries but they can't get there if somebody doesn't help them with money so we've got to get a bible perspective of money and i know years ago the televangelists and all that phony stuff not only years ago that phony trash that's still being peddled today keep my composure because it gets in people's minds about money it gets in people's minds about the ministry and money and and it's so fogged their mind up i remember standing one day it was right after it was right after the gym how many of you are old enough to remember the jim baker and jimmy swaggart fiascoes that went on and i was standing one day and a denominal pastor in this town was in the same place of business that i was in and he looked over at me and he said well reverend he said i guess your offerings are like our offerings right brother perdue i i didn't really know what to say to him i i said well what are you talking about and he said well ever since and he named jim baker jim swagger and all this went on he said our offerings at our church have plummeted because of that that people have no trust in the ministry well i'm glad to report tonight this is not a normal church we don't put our faith and our confidence number one in man and we sure don't put it in men that don't preach the truth but hear me again money matters because we have to have money to earn a living to provide for the necessities of the things for our families and yes money moves the mission it moves the mission and when we fail to honor god whatever reasoning that you can come up with whatever reasoning that you can you can come up with you know who we rob you know who we rob we rob from ourselves we rob god of the opportunity to bless one of the first things and and about the position of my position sometimes i have to deal with some ugly church situations and i've had to deal with ugly uh church situations and other churches between here and vietnam and one of the first thing a group of people will say we've been holding back our tithe and i tell them you're gonna get in trouble with god you better go to that you better go to that church that you're concerned about and you better honor god because those tithes are not the preachers those tithes belong to the lord they need to go they need to go into the church for the furtherance of the gospel there may be a situation that needs to be dealt with but let's deal with it a different way than getting in trouble with god will a man rob god verse 8 ye have robbed me but you say look look out look how see we can get so far away from god if we don't hear this we can get so far away from god we're like these folks rob you well how we robbed you god in tithes and offerings ye are cursed with a curse for you have robbed me even this whole nation bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be meat in my house and prove me now herewith saith the lord of hosts can i tell you it's one of the only things that god says prove me prove me or can i say it my way i double dog dare you prove me here god says listen he just anticipate put me to the test prove me prove me in this right here put me put me to the test prove me and me now here we say it the lord of hosts now let me bring let me bring your attention to something do you keep hearing god refer to himself as the lord of hosts do you know a host is an army do you know if i need anyone fighting for me in the area of my finances we've got inflation that's crazy we've got an economy that's as unsure as any economy that's ever been assured if we have ever needed someone to fight for us in the area of our finances it's now church why don't when we tithe and we give offerings we are inviting the lord of hosts to come in he can make the gasoline go further in your car he can make the gallon of milk and your refrigerator last longer he he can do all these things if there's need for that come on you believe in that god he he can do that he can do that hallelujah hallelujah he can do that he can do that why he can cause the hospital to call you and say that 287 thousand dollar bill that you've got we erase all of it we just take it all away in this uh i'm reminded in in the samford north carolina church there was a little and there's no pun intended but there was a little blind woman that went to that church called sister dollar and she was legally blind and when i was there preaching for brother acres and it'd go by and they would see her and we mainly would pull up in the front yard and sister dollar would come out and wave at us and she was such a faithful saint of god and very faithful with her little little social security check that she got and she was so faithful she lived in that little house sometimes she had she had said that she believed that she had a water leak that was just a little a little if i said shack i wouldn't be very far off uh how many would raise your hand that you remember it now i don't but you remember the day that the floor of your house was just wide timber with tar paper over it and then maybe linoleum or something like that it was just a little shack just a little shack and she had said to brother acres a time or two that she heard a hissing sound and she felt like there was a water leak somewhere and they never got over they never got over there to check that out sister dollar died and someone got to going around her house and her house now she was blind was infected with snakes all up under her house all around her house and yet that little blind lady never testified that she was ever bitten by snake i think i know what protected i think i know who protected her and i think i know why she was protected can i tell you tonight obedience to god is the greatest insurance and assurance policy you will ever take out it's the greatest thing that you will ever take out i'm not saying tragedy may not come but in the midst of tragedy god's got his hand upon us and that's just one of a few stories we could tell could you just love the lord for a moment oh my come on just love the lord for a moment oh just love the lord for a moment just love the lord for a moment just love the lord just just love him for a few moments would you please oh just love him for a few moments what might just stand right now let's just love him right now let's let's love him tonight let's let's just love him tonight thank you lord thank you god oh thank you jesus hallelujah come on just thank him right now just just thank him tonight just just love him tonight i i praise you god i just worship you god oh god i just worship you and i just thank you god lord i just thank you lord i i thank you in the area of my finances god i know that they play a very small role about god i thank you god that i heard the teaching of tithe and offerings oh i heard the teaching of tithe and offerings god oh what a blessing god it has been lord to honor you with the first and to honor you with a blessing god oh god in the name of jesus in the name of jesus in the name of jesus amen sister erickson i thought you'll not be online i don't need to be online i wish i could ever get that fixed right there i don't know what it can you come and do it that lady keeps trying to interrupt me sister eric said i'm sorry i told you tonight would be the last night of this series i got one more message i got one more message about money matters and i don't i just i'm just going to stop right now tonight i got one i got one more lesson but let me just say this to you the greatest break you'll ever have in life is tithing and offerings i don't care how uneducated you are i don't care how unknown you are you need god to recognize you in your workplace i feel the holy ghost i feel the holy ghost tithing is the greatest break you'll ever receive in life that's why the devil fights it the way he does that's why the enemy will fight tithing he'll put all kind of messed up things in your mind in reference in reference to tithing it's the biggest break you'll ever get i'm an example of it my wife thank god sister maynard brought her up my wife my wife was a matter of fact bring me my book bring me my book please if one of the boys that brought it i wouldn't say please but since you brought it i said please pretty please tithing my wife was trained up as a in in a in a denominal church that doesn't preach fullness of truth you may wonder how some of these denominal churches that don't preach truth prosper the way they do can i tell you why the same lesson you're hearing here tonight they hear at their church too it's a principle it's a principle that god will not pass over brother perdue it's a principle that god will not pass over is a matter of fact some of these non-denominal churches these some of these churches are also very aggressive in worldwide evangelism now if i'm god i would rather them get some truth now i know some of you just flipped a breaker we're going to go back here at the box and turn you back turn you back on all right many of you my wife's one of them i'm one of them seven years old i did give my life to the lord in a baptist church i i was just convicted i cried i squalled when they had a little flannelgraph board and had an ark or had ark on it if he was in the ark you you didn't drown but if you wasn't in the ark you drowned and the only way that you could not drown was say this prayer i was squalling they took me in a little side room i was as sincere as sincere could be but some of these places are blessed we don't need to get off here in this corner and believe we're the only ones blessed because we believe there's one god what no tithing is a principle that even blesses people that don't even embrace fullness of truth let me read you a little story alexander was some kind of genius in the age before supermarkets when most americans lived on farms or tended garden plots in town preserving food for the winter ahead was a matter of life and death that's why entrepreneurs like mason and ball became household names for mass producing canning jars but creating self-sealing lids for those jars became a vexing challenge that's when alexander kerr's inventive mind discovered the secret worth its weight in gold the problem for kerr was in finding the capital to mass produce his product in 1903 he partnered with john giles to fi to to found the closure company of chicago a year later he changed the name to the ker glass manufacturing company he patented another invention and other inventions the first threaded ring to hold the lid down the same method that's used today alexander had mortgaged his home and he borrowed heavily to finance his startup his new startup the competition was stiff and the american economy fragile those early days were tough sledding yet alexander kerr who had been converted under the ministry of evangelist d.l moody had committed to test god's promise to bless those who tithed even when he had precious little to give that belief was severely tested four years after he started his company it was 1906 and his fruit jars were being produced in san francisco california on april 18th of 1906 a massive earthquake hit san francisco 3 000 people were killed and 80 percent of the city was destroyed when alexander received the news flash his friend said alexander you are a ruined man he responded i don't believe it i know god can't go back on his promises he wired back to san francisco after that a devastating answer came back kerr your factory is in the your factory your factories in the heart of the city undoubtedly occur your factories destroyed heat was so intense they were unable to find anything out for several days those were faith testing days for kerr's family about a week later a second wire came from san francisco factory miraculously saved everything for a mile and a half on all sides of the factory were burned but the factory remained standing kerr immediately left for the coast it wasn't until he got to the site that he saw the amazing scope of god's miracle his factory was made entirely of wood containing huge tanks where the glass was melted at hot temperatures fueled by oil his building was the most flammable in the area yet the raging inferno came only to the edges of curse factory scorching the fences but jumping over his building to consume whole blocks around it the fences were not burnt nor was the building since so complete was the miracle that not a single not a single one of the thousands of jars were cracked by the massive earthquake or fires that followed alexander then went on the circuit speaking to churches reminding christians of how god's promise to bless those who tithe had been tested and god had been true to his word let's be true to god's word church let's be true to god's word the next time you see one of them mason jars you got that because a man believed in tithing god bless you in jesus name see you sunday morning with brother mark morgan you
