Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Motivated by fear: the altar first

  • Four months of travel brought the returned captives to the ruins of Jerusalem, where no fire had burned on an altar for fifty years. The first order of business was the altar, and the text says why: they set the altar upon its bases, for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries — fear was the motivator, and the subject of the sermon is 'Motivated by Fear.'
  • You can trust God and still battle fear. What they feared was loss — of wife, of children, of their few possessions — and the fear of loss is the fertilizer that begins to grow fear; it is what the pandemic has worked on us, altering our behaviour, our handshakes, our gatherings.
  • Fear always affects behaviour, and fear left alone will dominate all our time and deplete our energies, leaving us physically sluggish and spiritually hopeless — spending more time in front of cable news than in the commandments of God's word. The cure is to counteract the fear of loss with the faith of God: build an altar and fix your eyes on it instead of on the enemy.
  • When the altar got fired back up, the whole calendar came back with it: burnt offerings morning and evening, the feast of tabernacles, the new moons, all the set feasts — days that tie a people to their faith in God, the way Sunday and Wednesday anchor ours; the quarantine proved it, when the services stopped and we began asking what day it was.

Scriptures: Ezra 3:3-6

Two fears in one man

  • Job chapter 1 verse 1 introduces a man perfect and upright, one that feared God and eschewed evil — a godly fear, a reverence, not a dread that God would kill him for a wrong move; and that godly fear produced godly behaviour.
  • Yet the same man, stripped of children, servants, flocks, and health, said in chapter 3 verse 25: the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me. We can possess two fears at the same time — a godly fear that makes us walk uprightly, and a fear of loss at the same time.

Scriptures: Job 1:1; Job 3:25

Set the altar on its original bases

  • They scratched through the rubble until they found the original site of the altar, because they believed in the God of history: it was the place of 1 Chronicles 21:26, where David built an altar and God answered him from heaven by fire. If they could connect their present faith with the God of history, they could enjoy the same power demonstrated in the past.
  • One symptom of paralysis by fear is believing in the God of past miracles and the God of future miracles while stumbling to believe in the God of the present — but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He tells of Sonya Fowler's family, whose mother called from Kingsport asking prayer for a daughter newly moved to Maryville at the very moment that family came jogging past his front porch: no coincidence, but God orchestrating times.
  • The altar does three things: it tells the enemy we are up and running — no more smokeless altar, no more sacrificeless life; it gets our minds off our enemy and on our God, for dwelling on what we cannot change only makes it worse; and it pleases God — and when a man's ways please God, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
  • The old saints who came through the Great Depression told of a miracle cow that wandered down the road heavy with milk and of scrawny chickens laying three and four times their eggs: it is not Washington that puts milk on my table, it is God. And a Kansas pastor's story — steaks no one in the church admitted sending, which he took as an angel's provision — left him a lifelong rule: that taste in his mouth means take the next step of faith.

Scriptures: 1 Chronicles 21:26

We have an altar

  • The old feasts were types and shadows, all fulfilled in Jesus Christ; but Hebrews 13:10 declares, We have an altar. Jesus, to sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate; let us go forth to him bearing his reproach, for here we have no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
  • What goes on our altar is the sacrifice of praise to God continually — the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name — and to do good and to communicate, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Praise is the only smoke on our altar and the only sign to the enemy that we are alive: the dead praise not God.
  • We will not get back to pre-COVID ways with two good Sunday services, and a mentality of fear — of crowds, of church — has crept in; but you will have to worship your way out of this one. You cannot sit with folded arms and a shut mouth and come out.

Scriptures: Hebrews 13:10-16

I will not fear

  • They beat Paul and Silas black and blue, tied their hands, and put their feet in stocks — but the devil was not allowed to gag their mouths, and at midnight they prayed and sang praises, and the prisoners heard them. John they boiled in oil and exiled to Patmos, yet he could still say: I John, your brother and companion in tribulation, was in the Spirit on the Lord's day.
  • Psalm 118:6 is confessed aloud together: The Lord is on my side; I will not fear what man can do unto me. And Proverbs 29:25 warns that the fear of man bringeth a snare, but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe — if they come and put you in jail, maybe you are supposed to be down in the jail preaching.
  • Hebrews 13:5 seals it: he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee — so never let it come out of your mouth again that God has left you, whether you are in an emergency room, on an operating table, or in a financial emergency. The sermon closes in prayer that the smoke of sacrifice would rise not only from this house but from every home.

you have your bibles and would remain standing with me this morning if you turn with me to the book of ezra ezra chapter 3 and begin reading at verse number three presence of the lord is here this morning and you have met the presence of the lord with your praise and with your with your worship and god is here to do great great and mighty things today amen he's here to do great and mighty things ezra chapter three and verse number three simply begins by saying and they set the altar upon his bases for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries and they offered burnt offerings thereon and to the lord even burnt offerings morning and evening they kept also the feast of tabernacles as it is written and offered the daily burnt offerings by number according to the custom as the duty of every day required and afterward offered the continual burnt offering both of the new moons and of all the set feasts of the lord that were consecrated and everyone that willingly offered a free will offering unto the lord father i love you this morning we're only changed god by your word god help us this morning to develop a hunger for your word that your word would be the lamp and the light unto our feet that we would literally hear you speak to us from the pages of your word lord your word is relevant to us today from genesis to revelation you so designed this word god to be able to speak to all the situations of our lives lord would you anoint my heart today that i may bless these your people we'll give you all the praise for it is not the word of a man but it is the word of god in jesus name we pray amen would you give the lord a hand to praise before you seated thank you lord oh thank you lord oh thank you lord oh thank you lord it had been four months that they had traveled from their land of captivity four months of travel across the desert land these former captives finally reach the ruins of their motherland jerusalem four months of travel to go and to rebuild to rebuild their form of worship to rebuild their form of worship that had only been destroyed because of their wholehearted devoted act of love to jehovah four months of travel across desert land to reopen a system that had not been operating for 50 years ezra records that when they arrived that the first order of business the first order of business was that in verse 3 they set the altar upon his bases now the reason the altar was the first thing that they got to be operative was the bible said for fear was upon them because of the people of that country when the band of men and women along with their children imagine this with me please this band of men and women along with their little ones arrived in jerusalem again after that four month journey by foot they soon realized church that they were surrounded by their enemies didn't matter that they had a love for god didn't matter that they had a burden to do the work of god yet they couldn't help being affected by the presence of their visible enemy around them the bible tells us that fear was the motivator as a matter of fact that's what i want to preach on for a few moments this morning i want to preach on the subject of motivated motivated by fear motivated by fear now there are there are some that are so shallow in their experience of god and their knowledge of the word of god that they will soon tell those that confess that they have fear that they're not trusting god like they should trust god yet i'm firmly in disagreement with that because i believe that you can trust god and still battle fear still trust god but still battle fear as a matter of fact i'll just go a page or two in my notes i'll just go a page or two in my notes and i can show you that job chapter number one verse number one if you would get job chapter number 1 and verse number 1. the bible speaks about this great man called job correct it says in job chapter 1 verse number 1. there was a man in the land of us whose name was job and that man was perfect and upright and one that feared god and intuitive evil now we know that this fear that he had was a godly fear it was a reverence he had for god it was not some kind of fear that he was afraid god was going to kill him if he made the wrong move or god was going to cause some disease to fall on him if he didn't just say his prayer is just right it was a godly fear that motivated his godly behavior please notice that fear always affects our behavior fear always affects our behavior job had a godly fear therefore job had a godly behavior but yet in chapter number 3 chapter number 3 of the book of job and verse number 25 now watch what has happened the hand of the enemy has come upon him he now finds himself without any children without any farming tools without any servants he finds himself he finds himself without children without material he finds himself sick what did he say in verse number 25 for the thing which i greatly feared is come upon me and that which i was afraid of is come unto me you see the bible said he said that which i that which i greatly feared has come upon me you see we can possess two fears at the same time we can possess a godly fear that causes us to walk uprightly before god and we can also possess a fear of loss at the same time we can possess a fear of god and a fear of loss this fear of loss is what gripped them when they made their way back to jerusalem the reason in verse 3 of ezra 3 and 3 the reason they built an altar was because they feared their surroundings why would you fear your surroundings you would feel fear your surroundings because their surroundings spoke to them of loss of loss they couldn't help but be concerned with the visible presence of their enemy fear gripped their hearts the fear of loss hear me now the fear of their most valuable possessions think about it today the fear of our most valuable possessions our family etc the fear of loss in my estimation is the fertilizer that begins to grow fear if there has ever been a day that there needs to be a message preached about fear it's today we are bombarded on every side with fear we wear mass today you know why i wear this mask today somebody say the word do you know why we have been altered from shaking hands do you know why that sometimes it has altered our behavior what is covet 19 done it has altered our behavior why fear but there are times that we must understand that if i only focus my attention on that which causes me fear of loss that i will be of all men most miserable the fear of loss is the beginning fertilizer which which fosters the growth of fear these israelites understood something about fear that many of us today fail to recognize and that is we must counteract the fear of loss with the faith of god we must counteract the fear of god the fear of loss with the faith of god when they stood there four months 50 years since fire had burned on an altar and they looked around them and they were surrounded by an enemy are they coming from my wife are they coming for my children are they coming for what few possessions i have if they had just got their mind on their enemy they would have just caused their fear to grow but ezra 3 and 3 says they built an altar because of the fear of the people they surrounded with they got their eyes off the fear of loss and they got their eyes on the faith of god i refuse today i refuse to be a generation that will allow itself to continually stay in the grip of a fear of loss i believe today that we must shift our eyes our vision i believe today that we must shift our mentality into the faith of god into the altar their fear of law struck their hearts when they saw the when they saw visibly around jerusalem the unkind unwelcoming and opposing people that surrounded jerusalem hear me again today we cannot live with fear alone for a number of reasons if we live with fear alone i'm not saying that we are no ignore what can possibly bring us loss i believe that is the realm of reckless i don't believe that we totally ignore the fear of something that can bring loss but i refuse to allow my eyes to be locked continually upon the thing that can bring me the lost we cannot live with fear alone for a number of reasons if fear is left alone hear me church it will dominate all our time and deplete us of our energies it will leave us spiritually it will leave us physically sluggish and spiritually hopeless if i just oh yes if i just concentrate god help us when we spend more time in front of cable news then we do the commandments of god's word please help us as baptized blood bought spirit-filled miracle-believing working people to allow the economy to allow the news where the fake or not god knoweth and there may even be a doubt there but i refuse to allow myself to spend more time on fear factors than i do the holy written word of god so i want you to know today that fear doesn't motivate me to withdraw fear motivates me to advance fear causes me to say i want to focus on my faith in god can i get a witness this morning can i get a witness this morning fear fear will leave us physically sluggish and spiritually hopeless so we must counteract the fear of what we see by demonstrating the faith in god can you see with me today this band of men and women and children that huddle around mount moriah and as they're there at the highest peak in jerusalem huddled around four months of travel 50 years since fires ever burned as they huddled around with the motivation to rebuild their structure of worship and they begin to look around them and they see unwelcome opposing unkind enemies all around them thank god in ezra 3 and 3. somebody said what i see causes me to want to build the altar we got to get boys we got to get our we got to we got to build something worth our eyes gazing upon we have got to build something that will produce faith and not fear if we stand here on top of mount moriah and we continually look at the unkind and welcoming opposing nations around us all will become is will become paralyzed by fear we'll we'll become eat up we'll become physically sluggish and spiritually hopeless and somebody said well if we're not going to look at them then what will we look at and someone says we've got to build an altar we have got to get an altar built we have got to get something built that we can fix our eyes upon and the bible says in ezra 3 3 and don't miss it with me please that they set the altar upon its basins many of the bible commentaries as a matter of fact many of the bible commentaries will tell us that what this means here is that they scratched through the rubble until they found the original site of the altar because they believed in the god of history they believed if they could connect their present day faith with the god of history that they could enjoy all of the wonderful power of god that was demonstrated in the past you see one way to know if we're paralyzed by fear is if we believe in the god of the past miracle signs and wonders and we believe in the god of the future miracle signs and wonders but we stumble to believe in the god of the present that is a true testimony that we have got our eyes on the fear of loss and not our faith in god because my bible tells me that jesus christ the one that we spent 45 minutes worshiping and praising that jesus christ is the same yesterday pass today present and forevermore can i tell you this morning that i have come to tell this church a wake-up call i have come to preach faith into this congregation that we don't need to gaze out on all the cable networks and all the division and political parties and all the chaos that's going on in the world today i i i saw the other day to where what's going on in america is becoming contagious in other parts of the world other parts of europe there are there are protesting going on and they're pulling down statues in other parts of the world they were motivated by what's going on here but i refuse to allow myself to become divided i refuse to allow myself to become dampered in my faith it's time to build an altar first apostolic of maryville it's time to get our minds off of the fear of loss and get it on the faith of god but it's got to start i've got to scratch around here and i've got to find an altar where the fire has fallen come on as god ever answered a prayer for you is there anybody in this building today that god's ever answered a prayer for you is there anybody in this building that you know that you know that you know that you are saved you know that you know that you receive the holy ghost you know that you know that you have been healed you know that you know that god made a way where there seems to be no way can i tell you in the midst of fear it's time to scratch our altars up and go back and relive the day and say yes i know god touched me yes i know god brought me through yes i know god manipulated and god god moved these things come on somebody give me praise right now come on somebody giving praise right now sonia sonia fowler and all of her family's here worshipers workers in the kingdom blessed us in more ways than you can imagine coincidence that her mama called me from kingsport and was telling me about her daughter family that had moved in to maryville and needed a church and needed to get back on the right path and as i'm standing there in a bay window at my house with my phone she said i think they live somewhere close to you and hear like a mother duck and all the little ducklits come running down the road behind her and i thought to myself that's her and i stepped out while i had the mama on the phone saying pray for my daughter pray for my grandbabies i stepped out on the front porch and i said sonja and they all stopped and turned around and that was them you tell me that's a coincidence i tell you that's no coincidence that's god saying i've orchestrated this i orchestrated the time that she called you i orchestrated the time that sonya and her children wanted to go out and jog the neighborhood i orchestrated all that what are you trying to say today the same god that orchestrated that in the past is the same god that will step down in the midst of your fear today and say if you just scratch around on the altar god ever answered a prayer they set the altar upon its bases they set the altar upon its bases they found that original place that the altar that the fire had fallen why was it important to find the original spot why did they want to find the original spot because they had heard tell of the god of david and in first chronicles chapter 21 verse number 26 look at this with me why do they want to dig around in the rubbish and find the find the exact spot because they had heard tell they had heard the stories of first chronicles 21 26 and david built there an altar unto the lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings and called upon the name of the lord and god answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering you see the reason they want to go back and find that old original altar is because they want the god that put the fire on that altar that's what we want today and that's what we can have today in the year of 2020 in the month of october we can have the fire of azusa street and we can have the fire of pentecost but we've got to be willing to get our eyes off of loss and get it on our faith in god time has not diminished god time has not wore out the value of god's word time has not cost faith not to have the currency that it had 50 years ago if god healed in the book of acts god can heal in this auditorium this morning if god brought them out of egypt if god split a red sea god can still do it if god kept three men say in the fiery furnace he can still do it if god kept daniel safe in the lion's den he can still do it if god rained down bread from heaven he can still do it if god brought water out of a rock i'm not trying to hype you up i'm trying to faith you up today i'm not trying to hype you up i'm trying to fake you up today because god is not dead god is alive and all god needs today is the connecting of our faith they dug around until they found that old altar and somebody said that's right that's right that's where david that's where david built the altar that's where the fire fell let me tell you why we need to build an altar today why you need to build an altar today let me tell you why all of us need to build an altar this sunday morning all of us need to build an altar the altar does three things number one the altar they built told their enemy we are up and running as the enemy for 50 years saw no smoke come from mount moriah brother nolan for 50 years the enemy had laughed at that city that had once had the prophets and miracle signs and wonders for 50 years the enemy had looked at it and not thought one thing about it being a threat but when a band of people huddle around mount moriah the enemy begins to look across the valley but you see the altar tells the enemy one thing we are up and running when the smoke from that sacrifice began to swirl in the air from mount moriah all of the unkind unwelcoming opposing enemies begin to say what's going on in jerusalem what's going on in jerusalem you know i'd kind of like a sister hind you said it right you you yeah man you meant it today eyes over we just having a little little prayer request time over in that corner before church she said i hate the devil listen listen what what did you say it again why don't you stand and say it sister hines you hate him don't you i hate him too oh just yeah stomp him under your feet maybe we need to get maybe we need to get the faith of the little children the devil is a slow fox if i could catch him i'd put him in a box i'd lock that box and throw away the key for all the tricks he's played on me i want you to know something today it's time that the devil stop looking at a smokeless altar it's time the endeavor devil stops looking at a sacrificeless life it's time that he says they used to have praise they used to dance out of the choir they used to dance out of the pew they used to have joy and peace and hand waving but i got a hold of them a few years ago oh they may be coming back to church but there's no fire on their altar i say this sunday morning that we let the devil know i'm building it all how do you like that slew foot i got my hands up i'm praising god how do you like that i'm magnifying the lord i'm giving god some praise come on do it today you've been tormented the enemy has tormented you he's got our children he's got our grandbabies he's got things that belong to us it's time to build an altar it's time to build an altar maybe seated three things it told their enemy we are up and running it got their minds off of their enemy and on their god you see sometimes god can't give us peace because what we allow our minds to dwell on we dwell on things that don't matter we dwell on things we can't change that's why we ought to have faith in god because we can't change them can you change your children can you change your grandchildren can you change anything about the lie in the life of someone else no and a thousand times no but simply dwelling on what needs to be changed will never make things better as a matter of fact and make it worse but why don't we learn as people of god to focus our mind not on our enemy and have the fear of loss but focus our mind on the altar and have our faith in god or if we can just get this ultra built if we can just get some power on this altar and if we can just get some sacrifices going oh the enemy is going to know that our god the enemy's going to know that our god i hope i don't offend anybody today but i'm going to say it am sick of the news i am sick of them sisters don't believe i am sick of all this stuff going on sick of who's going to get in sick of who ain't going back sick all this all this junk going on that's not us church that's not us church can i tell you if the next man going in the white house takes us into the greatest depression we've ever known i got a god that can send a raven bird and bring us come on i got a god well say they may cut your water off i got a god i can walk out to the sidewalk and if god wants to he can bring water out of the sidewalk if i need my god i'm motivated by fear today you may be seated come on now i like getting a hold of some of these wide-headed saints of god at some of these camp meetings i get to preach some of these wide-headed saints of god sitting real quiet you you go up there in the lunch the lunch room and sit down to them and they begin to talk about coming through the great depression and i had one of the blessed sisters tell me said that they said we had in our county in our parish we had what we call the miracle cow i said what do you mean the miracle cow she said when we had no milk she said a cow would just come down the road and said the cow was heavy with milk and said we'd milk that cow and we'd get the milk out of that cow and before we could get somebody tied up that cow would just kind of disappear and nobody would know where that where that cow had went to they talk about little old strawny chickens that shouldn't be laying very many eggs but would lay three and four times the amount of eggs and they could go and share them around with their neighbors and they would take a bag of eggs so no holiness holy rolling sawdust group of tent revival jesus name people and they would they would push out the eggs there and they'd give out the milk there can i tell you what that is that's a group of people that knew that it's not washington that puts milk on my table it's not washington that makes everything all right it's god that makes everything all right i'm gonna tell you if i didn't have an altar i'd get me one this morning if i didn't have some fire on my altar i'd give me one today there's a pastor out in kansas merle cornwell mighty man of god mighty mighty man of god not a bit on the timid side either when he preaches those of you that know him know what i'm talking about he talked about as a young evangelist being preaching out oklahoma somewhere in a little old mobile home they put him him and his wife times were rough times were rough and uh he said he got to desire a mistake he said man he hadn't had a stake in a while and he got to desiring a steak he said later that day so the car pulled up person knocked on the door and handed them some steak he said they put those steaks on the stove and he said those were some of the finest eating steaks he'd ever had in all of his life he said they were moist they were juicy they had such taste to them he said that night when he went back to that small work to preach he thanked the pastor for sending out the stakes the pastor looked at him with a puzzle look and said i didn't send him mistakes out well somebody here in the congregation must have done it but as they asked a small group of people a small group of people no one had brought the stakes the cornwell finally accepted there was an angel of the lord that brought him these states now you can you can you can look at this like you you really believe that but he said now now today he's got a tremendous work a multi-million dollar complex there in kansas god has blessed him unbelievable but he says when it comes time to step out by faith in his ministry because there's never a time that we don't step out by faith you don't ever take your final step of faith down here you're always being led from faith to faith he said anytime i face something that i need to make a decision when i know i'm making it in the right way he said the most unusual taste of steak will come to my mouth and he said i know that i need to take that next step of faith let me tell you today it's time to build us an altar it's time to get off our mind man is not in control governments are not in control no one is not in control no one is in control of this thing we are in something that only god can be in control and he doesn't want his people during this time of unwelcome opposing unkind surroundings god doesn't want his people you and i to be fixed upon the fear of loss but it's time to build an altar to god the enemy needs to know this sunday morning this sunday morning the enemy needs to know that they are up and running you need to send a signal to the enemy today that you are up and running you need today you need today to get your mind off of your enemy and on your god you need today the third thing the altar does is that it pleases god you do understand with me this morning that if we please god it doesn't matter who we displease but you also realize today is if we displease god it doesn't matter who we please i'm in the business i want to please god today i want my altar to tell the enemy i'm up and running i want my altar to tell me i've looked at the scriptures more than i have the news i've spent more time in prayer than i have looking over a magazine i've spent more time on the exceeding precious promises of god than i have this uncertain world and number three i want to please my god you know how powerful pleasing god is the bible says that when a man's ways please god that he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him do you realize some of you are trying to write things that were done wrong 50 years ago and you're losing sleep and popping pills trying to get back in the good graces of somebody that you did wrong or they did you wrong a few years ago and you're wringing your hands and you never can get it right and the answer is if you would just build you an altar let the devil know that you're up and running if you would just build you an altar and let god know i've got my mind on you other than the world that it would please god and pleasing god is so powerful that he can go to your greatest enemy and cause them to like you cause them to favor you because that is the word something happens i want to build an altar watch what happens if you go back to ezra 3 3 for a moment watch what happens ezra 33 and they set the altar upon his bases for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries and they offered burnt offerings thereon and to the lord even burnt offerings morning and evening you see we need more church than this sunday and wednesday if i face a devil daily i ought to have a daily alter and sometimes i need a i need a double dose i need morning and evening i need a place to bring my problems of the morning so i can have a bright future of the day i need a place to bring my problems in the evening verse 3 or verse 4 it doesn't stop they kept also the feast of tabernacles as it is written and offered the daily burn offerings by number according to the custom as the duty of every day required and afterward they offered the continual burnt offering both of the new moons and of all the set feasts of the lord that were consecrated and of everyone that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the lord look what happened you see when the altar got fired back up when the altar got fired back up somebody said hey there's a bunch of things on our calendar we should be keeping there's a bunch of dates on our calendar we should be keeping am i the only one that went through this during the quarantine when we wasn't having church was any of you in this room ever lose track of what day it was oh i'm so thankful you lose track of what day it was because wednesday meant bible study and sunday meant church but all of a sudden that's taken away from us and we're reduced down from an evening in front of a computer can i tell you today that no computer will ever take the place of being in the room there's nothing like being in the room but i lost track of what day i said what day is it honey it's tuesday oh yeah okay okay what day is it it's friday it's because our feast days were taken away our times were taken away when they built the altar they also begin to bring their feast days back the feast of tabernacles came back celebration that followed the day of atonement the feast of tabernacles celebrated god's provision and protection for the people of israel during their 40 years wandering in the wilderness after that they brought back the day of atonement after that they brought back the feast of trumpets after that they brought back the feast of weeks or pentecost after that they brought back the first fruits feast and they brought back the unleavened bread and they brought back the passover why was all this important because all of these days kept them tethered to their faith in god it was way more powerful to celebrate the passover than to look at the news and see how the enemy's coming in it was way more powerful to celebrate pentecost and it was to gaze upon the unwelcomed unkind opposing spirits the old testament was types and shadows it was types and shadows but the bible gives us a type and a shadow of the fulfillment in hebrews chapter 13 verse number 10 in case there's anyone here today that thinks i'm trying to hype you up we don't celebrate pentecost we don't celebrate passover we don't celebrate weeks these were all fulfilled in jesus christ but the bible says in hebrews 13 and 10 and i would like for our musicians and singers to come right now in hebrews chapter 13 and verse number 10. we have an altar we have an altar wherever they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle we have an altar right now that those that serve that old testament typology have no right to our altar for the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin are burned without the camp wherefore jesus also that he might sanctify the people with his own blood suffered without the gate let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp bearing his reproach for here we have no continuing city but we seek one to come by him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to god continually that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name but to do good and to communicate forget not for with such sacrifices god is well pleased can i tell you today we do have an altar and what's put upon that altar is the sacrifice of our praise so when the worship leader is trying to get you on your feet clapping your hands and the worship leaders trying to get you to open your mouth and sing the songs and when we put the song the words on the on the screens big and bold you must understand that we're giving you an opportunity to offer the only sacrifice that is acceptable it's the only fire on our altar it is the sacrifice verse 15. it is the sacrifice of praise to god continually that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name but to do good and communicate forget not for with such sacrifices god is well pleased two things we got to work on to combat covet 19. we have been put in a situation to where we have been separated for a season and i want you to know it is going to take a season to get us back on course we are not going to get back to pre-covet ways around here with two good sunday night services there is a mentality that has been allowed to creep into some people's minds there is a mentality of fear they fear being in a crowd they fear being at church but i got to tell you something we have got to offer god the sacrifice of praise because it's our only smoke on our altar if we praise no god we see no sign to the enemy that we're up and running for the bible says the dead praise not god i don't want the enemy to think i'm dead to god i'm lively to god today oh hallelujah oh praise the lord oh glory be to his name o wonderful jesus waymaker problem solver healer deliverer oh mighty god mighty y'all oh hallelujah oh hallelujah hallelujah yeah you're gonna have to worship your way out of this one you're gonna have to worship your way out of this one you sit there with your arms folded and your mouth shut you're never coming out you gotta worship your way out of this one we can't touch anyone anymore we were made for social interaction but i don't know about you but this don't inspire me now i know why we got to have them i understand that i'm not knocking anybody today that's god i'm not knocking anybody i guess after the president got this i guess we're kind of maybe understand what could we do and you know would the worst thing happen to you oh jesus would the worst thing happen to you if you got covered would it be the worst thing that could happen to you or do we still believe god can heal hey i pray for his widow i pray for his widow and i pray for his children but for about 10 years now an elderly earl caseboat would call me at daybreak and sometimes this conversation would start with when's he coming when's he coming when's he coming not 11 happened he's coming brother carpenter he's coming natural disasters where's he coming earl casemont was looking forward to the day of his death he was tired of it some of you look uh oh i don't believe that well you believe what you want to believe i talked to the man he was tired of this whole world he was tired of his own body that wasn't working he believed the book he believed that when he died he was going to be lord have mercy he believed that when he died he was going to be in the presence of the lord let me close the only sacrifice you can give is what's in your mouth right now the only sacrifice you can give can i tell you beat them back beat them black and blue tie their hands behind their back and put their feet in stocks but they didn't do one thing the devil's not all-knowing and he's not all-powerful he may be allowed to bind my arms and bind my feet but he was not allowed to gag my mouth and the bible said at midnight paul and silas prayed and sang praises to god and the prisoners heard them they wasn't talking about how long's that stripe on my back how deep is that laceration they begin to build they begin to build them at all john john john they boiled you in oil they tried to kill you in a catherine of oil but they exiled you to patmos but i john who am also your brother and companion in tribulation and in the kingdom and the patience of jesus christ was in the aisle that is called patmos for the word of god and the testimony of jesus i was in the spirit on the large day and i heard the highlight fear fear psalms 118 verse number six listen to this psalms 118 verse number six the lord is on my side say it with me come on say it with me say it like sister hines says she hated the devil i will not fear what man can do to me proverbs 29 25 proverbs 29 25 the fear of man bringeth a snare but whosoever putteth this trust in the lord shall be saved you want to get in a trap and start fearing what man can do to you start fearing what man oh brother carpenter oh they can come put you in jail oh they can come do this and they come back i don't know i don't know the same they they they may come if they come god let them come and if god let them come maybe i'm supposed to be down in the jail preaching and you know what you better watch you may get the church under persecution that may be what it takes to get some of us to move we we may be a little bit too comfortable maybe we need a little persecution the fear of man hebrews 13 5 let your conversation be without covetousness be content with such things as you have for he has said i will never leave thee nor forsake thee for he has said i will never leave thee nor forsake thee don't you ever let it come out of your mouth again that you feel like god has left you because if you feel like god has left you and you confess that you're saying god's a liar because god has already said period it's in i will never leave you nor forsake you so wherever you're at who's ever against you whatever emergency room you're in whatever operating table you're on what kind of financial situation you find yourself in god said i'll never leave you yes god himself economy is is is you never wow i praise you you're lord you're merciful yes god there's nothing you with something brother hyde was telling me he said you know he's been working since he was 16 years old he said people that worship and god's going to take care of god's going to take care of god's took care of me god's going to take care of it um brother perry will remember uh years ago the interest rate at one time in building homes was 17 17 percent get a loan at a bank 17 interest we thought we were doing good when we first got married we assumed uh a loan from a from a family here in town it was fha loan and we tyler it was 10 man we were in high cotton we just thought wow we we've got a 10 we've got a 10 loan you don't look like god kept took care of the church during that time didn't would god ever fell us come on has god ever failed has god ever failed any of us it's just a carpet we're going to something as we close in prayer let's pray the prayer i know that the smoke is from the sacrifice is rising off the top of this house but as a husband and wife and as a family let's all pray out loud that the smoke of sacrifice will raise from our home because ultimately the problem's not the church house it's our house so if we can get that smoke of sacrifice in our house and we know that's a sweet smelling savor to the nostrils of god let's all pray out loud and ask god oh god help us every family god that's represented in this blessed place oh god may the smoke and the sacrifice raise from our hopes from every mother and every father god the problem is not your house god but the problem of the lack of faith is in our homes the problem of fear in our homes is a lack of sacrifice oh god in the name of jesus speak to every mother and every father in this room every young person that's serving you alone in their home oh god may you smell that sacrifice oh that sweet smelly savior from every person that is full of the holy ghost may you feel it this week every morning may arise in our homes oh god in the name of jesus god we will watch you do the work that we cannot do oh god when we do what we can touch every home remind us in the morning as we race god help us to set our alarms oh god so that sweet smelling savor will flow from our homes and everybody say in the name of jesus amen god bless you in the name of jesus the name of jesus i want to dismiss just right now anyone that would like to to be dismissed you don't want to battle the crowds you want to exercise some extreme caution you may be dismissed right now all others just stay put for a moment father again i ask for you to touch all the men of this church god i ask you right now lord to touch every head of every home every man god lord i pray that you would awaken within them their responsibility to gather the wood and god together the sacrifice lord and to lead their families god lord i pray for all the mothers and fathers that are experiencing the heartbreak of a child lord spiritually or physically not here lord i ask you today god that you would touch and give us wisdom every name that's in that prayer vase in the prayer room every name of every prodigal son and daughter oh god i pray that today right now you are ever present help in the time of need right now god right now god speak to them lord god bring them back to your house and to the altar in jesus name we pray amen and amen don't forget prayer time tonight
