Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Surely: my privileged right to mercy (Psalm 23)

  • David said it with certainty — surely means certainly: goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
  • The Miranda warning tells an arrested person his rights; rewritten as mercy rights they say an advocate has been appointed for the one who cannot afford an attorney — His name is Jesus, He takes every case, and He will never speak rudely to the one who comes to Him.
  • David also said, thou restoreth my soul: the restorer does not bring you back to what you were when you left — that is not good enough — He restores your soul better than new.

Scriptures: Psalm 23:6; Psalm 23:3

We repair wrecks: the body shop and the further review

  • Pastor John Vasquez took his sermon from a body shop sign — we repair wrecks: every good body shop owns a wrecker, because some wrecks can make it in and some wrecks have to be gone out and gotten.
  • The shop owner insisted there is no such thing as a totaled car: a car is only called totaled by those who do not have the patience to work with it — God has time, He has patience, and He is willing to work with you.
  • A wreck can be fixed good as new, the same as the day it rolled off the assembly line, or it can be restored — better than new, because the restorer corrects what was not perfect the first time.
  • Brother Jimmy Toney's sermon from the ball game: under further review the call on the field is overturned — the referee of judgmentalism, of sin and of life said out of bounds, incomplete, no good, but Jesus steps in and the verdict on a life is reversed.

Wrecks who made it to the shop (Luke 7; John 8)

  • At the Pharisee's house Jesus received no water for His feet and no kiss — but a wreck of a woman came in with an alabaster box, washed His feet with her tears, wiped them with the hairs of her head, and kissed and anointed them.
  • The church of Jesus leaves a door wide open for the wreck the religious world has no time for: if the house will not wash His feet, somebody will.
  • The scribes and Pharisees became an unwilling wrecker service, bringing the woman taken in adultery to the body shop and setting her in the midst.
  • His review of her case: if you are without sin, chuck the first stone — the accusers dropped their rocks and walked off, and He told her, neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.
  • He waited at the well for the woman who had had five husbands and was living with one not her own; she left her water bucket and told the town, come and see a man that told me everything I've ever done.

Welcome to the Apostolic Connection The weekly televised service Of the First Apostolic Church Here in Maryville, Tennessee I'm Pastor Kenneth Carpenter And we are delighted today To have you join with us By way of television And by way of the world wide web Church, choir, let's give our viewing audience A great big Apostolic welcome We are so glad to have you Joining in with us Psalms twenty-three verse six Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life And I will dwell in the house Of the Lord forever You may be seated I want to take a few moments and preach My Privileged Right To Mercy Some time ago a young man was arrested Accused of a crime Several crimes to be exact But yet in the court proceedings It became apparent that he was not aware Of his charges It was overturned His case went to the Supreme Court And from that one case This man's last name was Miranda And from Mr. Miranda's case We have today what is known as The Miranda Rights If you are arrested you will hear the officer Or should i say you should hear the officer Make this statement You have the right to remain silent Anything you say or do May be used against you In the court of law You have the right to council An attorney before speaking to the police And to have an attorney present During questioning now or in the future If you cannot afford an attorney One will be appointed for you Before any questioning If you wish If you decide to answer any questions now Without an attorney present You will still have the right to stop answering At any time until you talk to an attorney Knowing and understanding your rights As I have explained them to you Are you willing to answer any questions Without an attorney present This is what, by the Supreme Court, You're to hear when you are being arrested The courts have since ruled that the warning Must be meaningful So it is usually required that the suspect be asked If he understands his rights Sometimes firm answers of YES are required Some departments or jurisdictions Require that an officer ask Do you understand After every sentence in the warning These are known as the Miranda Rights By the Supreme Court, you are read that If you are being arrested Well I have not come today to Talk about Miranda Rights I have come to preach about my privilege Right to Mercy I have a privilege right to mercy Psalms twenty-three and six says Surely That sounds like certainly Surely That is certain It is certain that goodness and mercy Surely, certainly, goodness and mercy Shall follow me all the days of my life That is what David said I've got on my trail goodness and mercy I'm glad today, as a child of God or a sinner, We have the privileged right of mercy Thank God We have the privileged right of mercy today I was recently talking to Pastor John Vasquez He pastors in Potts Camp, Mississippi And he was telling me about a message That he had preached He had gotten inspired when he looked At the sign on an auto body shop And the sign simply said We repair wrecks, we repair wrecks So he began to talk to this man He began to talk to the man That owned the body shop And he said just tell me something About what I should look for In a body shop Well the man told him He said, let me tell you John He said, every good body shop Owns a wrecker Every good body shop owns a wrecker Why He said John, some wrecks can make it to us But there are other wrecks We have to go out and get Some wrecks can make it in But some wrecks we have to go out and get I'm so glad that Whether you're able to limp in here this morning God's got the right for your mercy today Or whether you're out And unable to get to us Somebody is going to find you With your mercy rights to read to you We need to tell the whole world They've got the right to mercy Everything you say and do Can be used against you In this great court of law of mercy And let me tell you I'm telling you something I'm so happy today I just don't know what I'm going To do with myself here in a moment But I have rewritten those Miranda Rights To My Mercy Rights You have the right to say something You have the right If you can't afford an attorney So there has been an advocate That has been bought for you And His name is Jesus And He takes every case That there is I won't ever forget going to An attorney's office with someone I was going with this person And they were going on behalf Of a family member And so this person was telling this attorney Please represent my brother And of course the attorney thought That, of the person speaking That I was his brother Please please please Take my brother's case And I noticed the attorney kept Looking at me And then all of a sudden After the person was saying this The attorney looked at me and said Well what do you have to say for yourself And I thought That's mighty rude of you to speak to me this way He used the word That's low down what you've been accused of I said, oh wait just one minute sir I'm not the one that robbed I'm not the one that did this I'm here on his behalf I have just come for this person here today Can I tell you something There is one attorney He's a counselor And He'll never speak rude to you There's an attorney He won't call you a low life And what do you have to say for yourself There's an attorney called Jesus And He'll say Come onto me all ye that labor And are heavy laden And I will give you rest I'm so glad today That I've got the right to mercy If you can't make it to His shop He's... Brother John Vazquez kept talking to him And he asked him He said what do you do when a car is totaled The man said Wait a minute There is no such thing as a totaled car No such thing He said absolutely not He said I don't care if the frame is bent I don't care how mangled it is He said it is only totaled Because they don't have the patience To work with it He said they will look at it and say It's totaled You know why They know it would take long and hard work To get it repaired Can I tell you the Miranda Rights may be one thing But the mercy rights is another And there is not a case on this platform today Nor is there a case in these aisles There's not a man or woman on these pews today Or watching by way of television That God would place over your life You're a total wreck And unable to be repaired Because He's got time And He's got patience And He's willing to work with you Don't you give up on yourself Don't you let other body shop owners Tell you that you can't be fixed There's one called Jesus And He can fix your life Now he said John There is no such thing as a total wreck If you've got time and patience Any car can be fixed He said all right He said So I bring the car in And I tell you I want my car fixed He said, I ask a question Do you want it good as new or do you want it restored Good as new or restored He said, I don't understand He said, well I have two standards here He said, I can fix this car good as new He said, this car will be the same as it was The day it rolled off the factory assembly line He said it will be as good as it was The day it came off the assembly line Or he said if you tell me to restore it He said, that's better than new He said, when I restore something He said, I look at the defects at the factory And the fact that because man makes it Man can't always make it perfect the first time So I can restore it to perfection the second time I believe that's why old David said Thou restoreth my soul I believe that's why it says If a brother be overtaken in a fault Ye which are spiritual Restore such a one He's not going to bring you back To what you were when you left Because that's not good enough He's going to restore your soul You're going to be better than you were When you left He's going to restore your soul You see And this may be the sermon that goes down I guess I'm giving you a goulash of preacher talk Preachers get together You know, men that build houses get together And what do they start talking about Building houses Oh I used a two by eight here I used a two by six Did I say that right, Mike, Scott, Brother Lyle? I used two by six And they talk carpenter stuff, you know Well when preachers get together We talk preacher stuff So I was talking to our dear sweet good friend Brother Jimmy Toney And he said, you know I got inspired the other day To preach a sermon He said I was watching a ball game And he said they kept saying That play is under review And he said, he would see these men They would go over there And they would pull a monitor up And they would pull that hood Over their heads And said, the referee had called it A certain way You were out of bounds It was an incomplete pass He said, them referees Would go over there And they would look under that And they would look at it And all of a sudden they would come back And they would say Under further review the player's foot Was in bounds, he was in the line And therefore, first down The play was overturned It was overruled Did I use the right terms? Overturned, overruled You know some of our lives are like this The referee of judgmentalism The referee of sin The referee of life says Out of bounds Incomplete pass You're out It's no good But out savior, Jesus Christ Steps out on the field and says Let me review that play Because He's able to step in To our lives And where we were sinners He was a savior. Where we were rebellious He was a obedient Where we were out of line He was in line And Jesus Christ steps back out And He says Upon further review Aren't you glad that God's got a Further review for your life I'm glad He's got a further review You're out The other team gets the ball Well no I'm here to tell you today I'm so glad that my life fell Under further review You see, when grace looks at us Oh hallelujah When grace looks at us And when mercy looks at us David surely goodness and mercy Shall follow me Yes sir The Bible is a tell-all book David It's a tell-all book Mercy was with you that night When you were up on that house top Looking at the woman you shouldn't look at Mercy was with you, David, When you were partaking of that woman David Listen, friend, the Bible is true And you know that it is Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life Let me tell you something friend I'm not advocating you living in sin I'm telling you today If you're recognizing you're in sin Don't you let the adversary beat you up And beat you down Fill your mind with lies and depression And tell you that you've messed up your life You thirty-three-old year old man You thirty-four year-old woman You've messed up your life I'm sure the devil would like To fill your head with that Because you've got a lot of life to live yet And you need to say no no no no Upon further review My life has been overturned I'm a new creature in Christ Upon further review Let me show you something Before we close this sermon today Luke chapter seven And verse thirty-six The pharisees invited Jesus To their house for dinner And it was really I believe Jesus was going to be dinner If you ask me When He knocked on the door Of the Pharisee's house Common courtesy said That a servant would wash your feet When you walked into the house Common courtesy said that The man of the house came out And kissed you on the face But oh when Jesus entered This Pharisee's house No water for His feet No kiss for His face But that's all right If you won't do it somebody will There's a wreck She's not unable to move She's a wreck of a woman though She brings an alabaster box into the house Thirty-seven And she stood behind Him weeping And began to wash His feet with her tears And wipe them with the hairs of her head And kiss Him and anoint Him Let me tell you something If the religious world has gotten Tied up in church as usual And church is a big business And church is a big boys' club And church is a society of who's who That comes to it Let me tell you about the church of Jesus The church of Jesus He might have to surround himself With the judgmental pharisees But he leaves a door wide open Because there's a wreck of a woman coming And she's a wreck of a woman And she's going to make it to the body shop And she's going to cry Anoint His feet And dry his feet with the hair on her head And anoint Him And I'm going to tell you something Jesus did a work on that woman that day Or you might be like the woman In John eight verse one Jesus went up to the Mount of Olives And early in the morning He came again into the temple And all the people came onto Him And He sat down and taught them And the Scribes and Pharisees Brought onto Him a woman Taken in adultery And when they had set her in the midst They said onto Him Master this woman was taken in adultery In the very act This is an amazing passage of scripture Do you know that God can use Scribes and Pharisees to bring you to Jesus You hear me If you've got a heart for God God can even allow the scribes And the Pharisees to bring you That woman was so wrecked She couldn't even get to the Body Shop So the wrecker service Of the scribes and Pharisees Brought her out They put her in the midst They said this woman was taken In the act of adultery Now we know the law says to stone her But Master Body Shop Jesus What do you say Jesus says Wait a minute Let me review this case He said oh Come to find out As a matter of fact He said Anybody here today without sin Is anybody without sin here Anybody without sin If you're without sin Go ahead and chuck the first stone at her They started dropping them Because if you're really true with your heart That one statement right there Puts us on the same level with any sinner That one statement right there Puts me on the same level with any No I may not be guilty of adultery But I'm not without sin And we all were sinners We were all saved by the grace of God's hand So that one statement right there Puts us all on the same level They dropped their rocks And they walked off And Jesus said woman I have reviewed your case And He said Woman Where are the ones who have condemned you Where are your accusers Where are your accusers at woman She looked around and she said I don't have any He said neither do I condemn you Go and sin no more Last, what about Jesus went to the well Sat on the well And waited for that woman to come Woman give me a drink How is it that you ask me a drink How is it as Jews have no dealings with us Woman if you knew who it was That asked you for a drink of water You could have asked it of Him And He would give you Living Water You would give me water today You don't even have a dipper in your hand You don't even have a vessel To get any water out How would you give me water He said the water I give you You will never thirst again The water that I will give you Will quench your thirst I'm so thankful today I want more and more of Jesus But I'm going to tell you He has quenched my thirst in life He has quenched He said to the woman at the well The water I could give you You would thirst no more She said well give me that water That I come here never to draw again He said well call your husband I don't have one You're a wreck of a liar That's what you are You do, you have had five Your with one now that doesn't belong to you Talk about dysfunctional You have been with five and you're With one now that doesn't belong to you She said sir I perceive you're a prophet And our Father said to worship over yonder On the other mountain He said believe Me The day is coming when you are going To worship the Father in spirit And in truth Having said that She left her water bucket And went into the town And told everybody in town Come and see a man That told me everything I've ever done Truly this is the Christ
