Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
A besieged city and a word of tomorrow
- He reads the siege of Samaria: famine prices climb until an ass's head and a measure of dove's dung sell dear, and two mothers bargain over their sons.
- When the second mother hides her son, the first cries to the king; the king turns his wrath on Elisha, the only man who could prophesy good.
- Elisha answers with tomorrow: by this time tomorrow, fine flour and barley will sell cheap in the gate of Samaria.
- The lord on whose hand the king leaned doubts the word — if the Lord would make windows in heaven — and is told he will see it with his eyes but not eat of it.
Scriptures: 2 Kings 6:24-7:2
Negativity, a killer as lethal as any addiction
- He names his subject: a negative form of speech and a negative outlook kill the promises of God as surely as alcohol, tobacco, and drugs kill the body.
- Many people talk themselves right out of victory and into defeat by their speech; the word of God is a positive book.
- Negativity is addicting like cigarettes: the negative spirit finds the one flaw in the king's house — a mouse under the king's chair — amid all its splendor, a picture he recalls from another preacher's message in this church.
- The prophet Malachi already spoke of God opening the windows of heaven and pouring out; the doubt that asks whether God would make windows is wrong from its first word.
- Jesus kept the scars of his suffering in his glorified body for doubting Thomases; the people in the house carry scars of recovery, not burial.
- The spirit of being negative is never satisfied — the services are too long or too short, the preacher too loud or not hard enough on sin.
Scriptures: Malachi (book-only, as spoken)
The lepers, the open gate, and the man who only saw
- Four lepers outside the city reason that sitting still is death, and walk toward the besieging army's camp.
- God causes the camp to hear the sound of hoofs and marching boots; the host flees and leaves tents, food, gold, and silver behind, and the lepers eat their fill.
- The lepers carry the news into the city; the gate is opened to a starving crowd, and the doubting lord, directing traffic in the gate, is trampled — he saw the plenty with his eyes and ate none of it.
- He closes by asking God for a patch against being negative: this is the day the Lord has made, and he will rejoice and be glad in it.

second Kings chapter 6 and verse number 24 reads like this 2 Kings 6:24 and it came to pass after this that benh Hadad king of Syria gathered all of his host and went up and besieged Samaria and there was a Great Famine in Samaria and behold they besieged it until an ass's head was sold for four score pieces of silver and the fourth part of a cab of doves dung for five pieces of silver and as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall there cried a woman unto him saying help my Lord oh King and he said if the Lord do not help thee when shall I help thee out of the barn floor or out of the wine press and the King said unto her what a it thee she answered this woman said unto me give thy son that we may eat him today and we will eat my son tomorrow so we boiled my son and did eat him and I said unto her on the next day give thy son that we may eat him and she hath hid her son it came to pass when the king heard the words of the woman that he rent his clothes and he passed by upon the wall and the people looked and behold he had sackcloth with within upon his flesh then said he God do so and more also to me if the head of Elisha the son of shapat shall stand on him this day chapter 7 verse 1 then Elijah Elisha excuse me Elisha said hear the word of the Lord thus sayeth the Lord tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekele two measures of barley for a shekele in the gate of Samaria then a lord on Whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said behold if the Lord would make Windows in heaven might this thing be and he said behold Thou shalt see it with thine eyes but shalt not not eat thereof the word is blessed in Jesus name you may be seated we understand today the Alcohol Tobacco use all kinds of legal and illegal drugs has taken the lives of countless Millions we understand that today but I want to address for a few moments on something as a lethal a killer and maybe even more than the things that I've listed you see a negative form of speech a negative outlook on life has killed many of the promises of God having a negative outlook having a negative form of speech I'm here to tell you today that I have witnessed many people talk themselves right out of Victory and talk themselves right right into defeat by their speech the word of God is alive and the word of God is living and the word of God is a very positive book we understand in this portion of scripture that I read to you that the people of God had been surrounded and uh that besiegement was a was a tactic a war tactic that they would surround the city and L literally starve them out or starve them into surrender we understand how Bleak this was the Bible tells us that they besieged Samaria until the people were so hungry that things that they would have never considered eating they begin to pay a high price for for example a a a donkey's head sold for a high price at a portion an amount of doves dung would sell for a high price and we even know that the scripture tells us that evidently these two women got to the place that they had spent all on Dove's dung and donkey's heads and uh it even entered their mind can you imagine that it entered a mother's mind to boil her son she made a deal two women made a deal said we'll boil my son today and we'll eat our son my son and then tomorrow we will eat your son boil and eat your son and of course the problem that arose was that the woman hid her son and this woman Cried Out To The King but here's where I have a difficulty trying to connect the dots when the king heard of the request and heard what was going on in the king kingd om he heard that mothers were literally boiling their children and eating them the Bible and this is the point I want to bring out the Bible says that he turned his wrath toward the only thing that could prophesy good he turned his wrath toward the prophet Elisha as if to say that Elisha was the the cause of all of this as if and I'm telling you something this world can so get your mind educated to where you do feel like that it is the ways of God or the people of God that is your problem and so when he when the king heard this uh report of boiling the sun he he makes a declaration that he Elisha should die and Elisha should die today yet the next chapter opens up with Elisha prophesying positive it opens up with Elisha over this very Bleak situation Elisha says tomorrow I'm me to tell you in verse one God's word always has for you a tomorrow was a young man in the Vietnam War who had been shot many times and the newspaper reporter says the young man was leaning against a tree bleeding from his ears and his nose and shot and he the reporter said while there were waiting for the Medics to come said he sat down and tried to offer any comfort to that young man that he could and he asked the young man he said if you could have one thing right now now what would it be the young man said tomorrow tomorrow if I could just have tomorrow some people live in a day that they don't want know when I'm not talking about a 24hour day I'm talking about a season of your life that you would to God that there could be a tomorrow many have lived in nightmares that they wake up and they just cannot believe that their life is in the shape that it is in oh give me tomorrow I stand to you today good people and tell you regardless of how Bleak your surroundings are donkeys heads and doves dung regardless of what you have boiled and what you have turned to praise God God always has a tomorrow he's the only one that can promise you a tomorrow oh thank God I wonder if somebody could Rejoice with me this morning that God is able to give us a tomorrow weeping may endure for the night but joy cometh in the morning man of God said tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flower be sold for a shkele and a measure of barley for a shekele in the gate of Samaria you see the man of God the word of God was prophesying just the opposite of what was going on the word of God was saying tomorrow you're you're you're you're eating donkeys heads and doves dung and you're you're boiling all this but tomorrow in the gate of this city you'll be able to buy the finest of flour The Best of Bread will be bought for a minimal price tomorrow in the gate there's a promise of a better tomorrow tomorrow in God's word aren't you thankful there's a promise of a better tomorrow but wait a minute wait a minute tomorrow's promise is only hinging is if you will receive it because the Bible said in verse two there was a lord on Whose hand the king leaned and then this is where I want to introduce to you you don't need to have your leaning upon on a spirit of being negative there was a king there was a lord on Whose hand the king leaned you see being negative can be just as addicting addicting as smoking cigarettes being negative can be just a a a a rush just something that you get in that gives you a temporary good feeling of being negative some that that old negative spirit will find everything wrong I remember brother rwood a message you preached here at the church about the mouse under the king's chair and he talked about all the Splendor of the King's house all the tapestry all the servants all the Glorious things that were there the gates the marble floor everything but when the man got invited to go see the King's house all he could fix his eyes on was there was a mouse under the king's chair could it be possible today that you're sitting in this congregation needing a tomorrow but the spirit of negativism of which your hand is leaning keeps you pulled back oh it says things to you like there's Hypocrites there you better believe it you've heard this before there's no perfect people in this room today surely to the good God Of Heaven we don't believe there's perfect people here today no we are just people serving a perfect God that's the only Perfection that is in this room today there's people that are struggling there's people who have scars there's people that are trying do you know the one thing that Jesus kept in his glorified body was his scars of recovery the only thing Jesus Jesus could have chosen to say little plastic surgery please a little Cosmetic in this new glorified body take away a little bit of the the stab here that that gaping wound up under my rib there that that that ripped the flesh out please cosmetic surgery here would you please oh and I never want to shake hands with kings in the future with those gaping hes there and and oh please do something to these feet here oh no he could have done it but he didn't because he wanted those scars because he knew there would be doubting Thomases that would never believe until they saw somebody with the scars of recovery can I tell you what you're seeing here today you're seeing people who have scars of recovery you better believe we've had things happen to us but the fact that we're still in the house of God tells you these scars have not buried me but I am Rec hovering over these scars this morning don't don't fall prey to being negative oh the services are too long oh the services are too short oh the preacher is too loud oh the preacher is not hard enough on sin oh there's too many goes to that church oh there's not enough goes to that church you see the spirit of being negative can never be satisfied can never be satisfied and so this Lord on Whose hand hand the king leaned he said let me tell you something look look at how wrong being negative is behold if the Lord would make Windows in heaven well you're wrong already it's not if the Lord would make a window in heaven there's already windows there the prophet Malachi said he would open up the windows of Heaven pour us out he said if the Lord would make Windows of Heaven might this thing be oh man of God don't give us that tomorrow business don't give us that tomorrow I'm going to be better see that's the spirit of being negative right now that's the spirit of being negative but you see the man of God turned to him and he said negative Spirit behold you you will see it with your eyes but you will not eat thereof the story now turns to four lepos men on the outside of the city you see regardless of how bad you think you got it someone always has it a little worse so I don't care how bad you think you got it somebody's got a little worse oh I'm inside this city with nothing to eat I'm on the outside of this city dying of leprosy but why sit we here till we die why don't we just go out in the field maybe they'll be merciful well you know the story let me rush through it for a moment for time sake these four lepers men got up and went out to the went out to the Army and God caused the Army to hear the sound of of of hoofs and the sound of marching boots and the sounds of of an army and and and they said oh they've hired other captains to come in and they they they literally was so Terror stricken that they left things on the bar C Grill I had that part they left things in the tent but but it's there they left things in the tent they left their tents open they left their their food laying around they left her gold they left her silver and in come scuffing four leprous men and they got in the first tent and they ate till their heart was content and they got in the second tent and they ate till their heart was content and they got in the third and the fourth and they started putting gold in their pockets and they started filling themselves and then one looked at the other and said we're not doing good said if we hang around here said mischief will fall on us said let's go into the City and let's let's let's tell them in the city there's there's plenty out here there's plenty well they did they went and they convinced them to open up the gates and let see anytime you're going to let hungry people out see being negative is not smart because this man on Whose hand the king leaned he said if we're going to open up the gate King I need to go down there and direct traffic I need to go down there and get in the gate and tell how many people can go out you know you you don't open up a gate with starving people been eating donkeys heads and doves dun can you see he swung open wide that gate the scripture said and he started to direct traffic and I mean they stampeded him I mean they knocked him down on the ground and he lost his life he saw it with his own eyes but he never ate one little bit of it Church let's attack we'll ask people we want them to get victory over this habit and that habit we'll tell them you know you can break those chains and you can get a patch and you can get all kind of pills to take this feel away God give us a patch for being negative God put something on my heart that when all of a sudden I get to craving to be negative that something will kick into me and say you know what this is the day the Lord has made I'm going to rejoice in it and be glad
