Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Pleasing God brings his favor
- He opens with a praise report from the Princess Within prison conferences: at the sixty-sixth conference — held in the very prison its director had been in twenty years before — a hundred and fifty attended, fifty-five were baptized in Jesus' name, and nineteen received the Holy Ghost.
- His texts: when a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him; and whatsoever we ask we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
- Pleasing God moves on a man's enemies and on his prayer life; when prayers go unanswered, the checklist is whether it is God's will — and whether we are doing what pleases him.
- Favor is defined: an act of kindness beyond what is due — not a wage earned, but a revelation of God's loving kindness; the favored person's response is not 'I deserve it' but 'I'm unworthy.'
Scriptures: Proverbs 16:7; 1 John 3:22
Favor in the scripture
- The Lord blesses the righteous and compasses him with favor as with a shield.
- He lines up the favored: the child Samuel in favor with God and men; Daniel brought into favor with the prince of the eunuchs; Mary told she had found favor with God; Jesus himself increasing in favor with God and man; and the early church having favor with all the people.
- No one is favored without persecution, trials, and hardship — favor is decided by how a person responds to them: the response is the wind in the sails, moving a life toward its God-given destiny or leaving it dead in the water.
Scriptures: Psalm 5:12; 1 Samuel 2:26; Daniel 1:9; Luke 1:30; Luke 2:52; Acts 2:47
Joseph: the coat of the father's love
- Israel loved Joseph, the son of his old age, and made him a coat of many colors — and his brethren hated him and could not speak peaceably to him: enjoying the father's love can cost the hatred of the brethren.
- Joseph's dreams of sheaves and of sun, moon, and eleven stars bowing down fed the hatred; be careful who you share your visions with.
- When Joseph came to his brethren they stripped him of the coat and put him in a pit — but God was not burying him, he was planting him: a seed hidden in the dirt is not dead, it is preparing to produce.
Scriptures: Genesis 37:3-4; Genesis 37:23
Joseph: the servant's garment
- Brought down to Egypt and bought by an officer of Pharaoh, Joseph prospered because the Lord was with him; made overseer, he became the reason the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house in house and field — stay connected to what God has favored.
- Temptation came with favor: his master's wife said, 'Lie with me,' and Joseph counted his blessings and refused — 'How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?' — conviction he held before it was ever written in stone.
- She caught him by his garment — the servant's garment — and he left it in her hand and fled: the first garment was taken by force, this one he gave up willingly rather than sin.
Scriptures: Genesis 39:1-6; Genesis 39:9; Genesis 39:12
Joseph: the prison garment
- Falsely accused, Joseph was put in the prison where the king's prisoners were bound — but the Lord was with Joseph, showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper, who committed all the prisoners to his hand.
- The garment of false accusation: don't fight your critics and liars — fighting them takes the matter out of the hands of the God who sets a table before us in the presence of our enemies.
- In prison he interpreted the dreams of the chief butler and the chief baker — three branches and three baskets, three days — and asked the restored butler to remember him; the butler forgot him, and two full years went by.
Scriptures: Genesis 39:20-23
Joseph: fine linen, and the bones carried up
- Pharaoh, troubled by dreams of fat and lean cattle and full and blasted ears, sent and called Joseph hastily out of the dungeon; he shaved and changed his raiment — the garment of expectation.
- Joseph read the dreams — seven years of plenty, seven of famine, lay up twenty percent through the plenty — and Pharaoh put his ring on Joseph's hand, arrayed him in fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck.
- The brothers who bowed before him were reconciled: 'You meant it evil, but God meant it for good.'
- Joseph died at a hundred and ten, having seen Ephraim's children of the third generation, and charged his brethren: God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones — and four hundred years later Moses took the bones of Joseph with him out of Egypt.
- There is one more garment to put on, when this mortal shall put on immortality; the service closes in a healing ministry and a baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ladies, I'm going to tell you right now that uh unless the Lord changes my mind, I want y'all to sing that at the end of my Bible lesson today. Man, that's encouraging, isn't it? >> I made it. sound a whole lot better than I didn't make it. >> I made it. Have your Bibles and would join me in the book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs chapter 16 and verse number seven is the verse that I would like to have. Verse number 16 and or chapter number 16 and verse number seven of Proverbs. And then we're going to read 1 John chapter 3 and verse 22. But before I read my text, I I just received some information. We have been I I mentioned to you um I I I mentioned to you a moment ago about pouring out pouring out into others. Pouring out into others. Um, I believe sister I I believe Sister Carpenter could could verify, but I just believe if if it's not exactly I'm one or two off, but we have been financially supporting and not only financially supporting many of the women of the church has taken part of this uh what is called a princess a princess within conference. Now, these are conferences that are held inside of women women's correctional centers across the United States. They go into these correctional centers and they have a conference. They've got great favor with the wardens and uh we have been financially supporting and we have been we have been sending our ladies to be a part of that. May matter of fact, Sister Hawkins and him that sang they go in and and they they minister. Well, they just had this past weekend the 66th Princes Within Conference. 66 of them that has taken place under the direction and please remember this name under the direction of Sister Stephanie Hughes. All right, remember that name, Stephanie Hughes. This past weekend, 150 were in attendance. 55 were baptized in Jesus' name. 19 received the Holy Ghost. They were miracles that were recorded there. To God be the glory. Their motto, their motto is teach, train, trust, and turn over is the motto for the princess within conference that stan Hughes ran there in that prison. Stephanie Hughes would oversee that Princess within conference in that correctional center. And here's the good part. This was the prison Stephanie Hughes was in 20 years ago. And now she comes back 20 years later. Woo! What an awesome God we serve. Aren't you thankful to be a part of that today? I'm so thankful. Jesus is so good. Proverbs 16:7, "When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." First John 3 and22. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. I want to minister for a few moments today on this simple subject. Pleasing God, pleasing God brings his favor. pleasing God bl brings his favor. Father, today I ask you alone I could give a speech. Alone I could give a lecture but God I don't want to be alone today. Lord I want your spirit to anoint my mind and my lips. I want your spirit to take my feeble efforts today and empower them to where when they hit the ear and the heart of the listener today, it will be as sledgehammer blows inside of their mind, telling them that they can make it, telling them that they can overcome, telling them that there's more life yet to be lived, Lord. And we'll give you glory. We thank you for Stephanie Hughes. We thank you God for the great turnaround in the ministry that she has. Blessed in the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen and amen. You may be seated today. You know as children of God and by an amen. How many children of God do we have here in this room? >> Sound like we got a house full. As children of God, as Christians, as children of God, as Christians, our goal in life should be to please the Lord. Our goal in life should be to please the Lord. Our actions should have the phrase, "Is this pleasing to God?" Everything that we do, is this pleasing to God? Sister Carpenter left early this morning and did not lay me out a tie to go with my suit. I had to go and plead the blood. No, I had to go and go in there and hold this one up. Hold that one up. And I finally found this one. It's a tie that I believe that we wore to Nolan and Flannry's wedding. I found this one. Now, I come in and some of you said, "I like your tie, pastor. I like that. I like that." I said, "Thank you." I said, "Thank you." But boy, when I went in the office today and Sister Carter said, "You did good." That's all I was waiting on. It's all I was waiting on. You know, I think that all of us today, I believe that all of us today should live with a goal in life that we're pleasing to God. you know, um, if you're in the right relationship with God, and the Bible says when a man's ways, his behavior, his ways, please the Lord, that he is even able to make his enemies. Think about how powerful it is to please God. That when we please God, God can actually work on our enemies. And the Bible said that when a man's ways please God, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. That's powerful, church. That's that's that's powerful. You don't want to fight your enemies. You want to please God and let God work on behalf of you. Then in John the old elderly beloved apostle he pinned these words when he said and whatsoever we ask we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. Just imagine that that pleasing God church has the ability to move upon your enemies. Pleasing God has the ability to move upon your enemies. But also pleasing God affects your prayer life. It affects you getting a prayer answer. The Bible said John said that uh whatsoever we ask we receive of him because we keep his commandments but not only that do those things that are pleasing in his sight. So you know I give us a little checklist today. Maybe if I'm not getting prayers answered like I want them to be answered, maybe I need to ask the question number one, is it God's will? Is it God's will? There's a lot of prayers you and I both prayed that we didn't get them answered the way we prayed them. And the reason we we didn't it wasn't God's will. You say, "Well, if it wasn't God's will, is at the end of it." Well, it's really the it's the start of understanding that father knows best. In other words, there's some prayers that we're all thankful he didn't answer because God's will was performed and God sees the master grand plan. So, if there's prayers in my life that are not getting answered, I need to I need to accept the fact God isn't your will for this to go the way that I want it to go. Or maybe I have to understand I'm not getting some prayers answered because I'm not doing things that are pleasing in his sight. But when you please God, now let's turn the coin over. But when you please God, pleasing God brings his favor. Everybody say favor. >> Pleasing God brings his favor. The simple definition of favor is this. It is an act of kindness beyond what is due. It is an act of kindness beyond what is due. I want I want that to I want that to just savor on your mind for a moment. Favor is an act of of kindness that is beyond what is due. Favor isn't a wage you get from God for your work, but rather favor is a revelation of God's loving kindness. God's favor isn't because I'm getting a wage from him. God's favor is that I'm having and experiencing an act of kindness from God that is beyond what is due. In other words, it's above all that we can think and or ask. Can I just ask everybody today, hasn't God blown all of our minds? If you walk with the Lord and you want to please the Lord, don't you look back on your life and say, "I never thought it would be like this. I I I never thought God would turn it around like this." Oh. Oh, praise be unto God. Oh, yes. When a person when a person is favored by God, do you know what your response is? It is not, "I deserve it. It is not will I serve the Lord. It is not will I go to church. When God gives you favor and you recognize it, you know what your response is? I'm unworthy. I'm unworthy. I'm not worthy. I'm unworthy of this. When God's favor comes. Well, let's just look at a few passages of scripture about people that were that were favored in the Bible. I want to start with Psalms 5 verse number 12. It says, "For thou, Lord will bless the righteous. With favor," everybody say, "Favor." >> With favor thou compass him with a shield. That is protection. That is, that is protection. that when a person's ways please God and that person falls into the favor of God, God can passes him about as with a shield. Now let's look at a few people that were favored in the Bible. 1st Samuel chapter 2 verse number 26. And the child Samuel grew on and was in what? Favor both with the Lord and also with men. So Samuel the prophet was a man of favor. Daniel 1 verse number 9. Now Dan, now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the Unix. Luke 1 verse number 30. We have Samuel favored. We have Daniel favored. Now's the Virgin Mary. Listen to the angel. And the angel said unto her, "Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God." So now we have Samuel favored. We have Daniel favored. We have Mary favored. And God takes on human flesh. And the son of man, the humanity. Luke chapter 2 verse number 52. And Jesus increased in wisdom. We know this wasn't the divinity side. The son of God. This was humanity. Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and with man. So now we see that Samuel was favored and Daniel was favored and Mary was favored. Even the God man, Christ Jesus was favored. But it doesn't stop there because this is where you and I come in. Acts chapter 2 verse number 47. The church was praising God and having favor with all the people and the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. We all will line up to receive the favors, won't we? I I don't think there's anybody here today that just text somebody and said, "I don't want to be favored." I I I think everybody in this place today would line up would line up to say, "Man, I want to fall under that Samuel. I want to fall under that Daniel. I want to fall under that Virgin Mary. I want to fall under that man, Christ Jesus. I I want to be a person that is I want to be a person that is favored. But I've got news for you today. We must understand that no one is favored without going through persecution, trials, and hardships. No one gets favored without going through all of these. What does Samuel have in common? He went through trials and hardship. What did Daniel have in common? He went through trials, persecution, and hardship. What did the Virgin Mary have in common? She had to watch as the her son Jesus Christ was nailed. And the prophet said, "A spear or a sword shall pierce your soul." He had to watch. And the early church, did the early church face per persecution? You better believe the early church faced persecution. So in one hand we want to be favored but in the other hand we have to understand that to be favored by God we will go through persecutions, trials and hardships just like all of them. Not only going through these things I'm going through persecution. I'm going through a trial. I'm going through a hardship. But here's where the favor comes in. The favor comes in in your response to trials, persecution, and hardship. Do you get that? This is where the favor comes in. The favor is decided on how you respond to trials, persecution, and the hardships of life. How you respond, your response is like the wind in the sails of a boat. How you respond determines if it's going to move you toward your godgiven destiny and calling or you're going to sit dead in the water. How we respond to persecutions, trials, and hardships. How we respond to all of this determines or not whether or not I'm going to be favored. Just like life is full. I hear a lot of people talk about, "Are we going through the tribulation? When are we going through when's the rapture? When's this? When's that? Are we going are we going are are you pre-tribulation? Do you believe the church is going before uh the rapture? Are do you believe the church is going before the tribulation? Are you midtrib? Do you believe it's going to happen in the you think the rapture is midtrib? Are you post-trib? Do you believe the rapture is happening after after the after the tribulation? Uh I I I like to say this. I'm pantrib. I believe it's all going to pan out. All right. I just believe I believe it's all it's going to pan out. I'm not going to split hairs. There's people There's people that get divisive with that. There's people that they they'll say the preacher don't preach the truth. He don't preach that we're going through it. Man, grow up. Get the baby bottle out of your mouth. >> I don't listen, I don't mind to put a baby bottle in a saint's mouth, but when I got to part the whiskers to get that bottle in, there's a little problem right here. It's all going to pan out. But let's face it, aren't we going through persecution? >> Aren't we going through hardships? >> Can I tell you something, young people? The older you get and when that age starts going 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and your body is not moving like it once did. And and and and when you get up in the morning and walk to the coffee maker, you sound like Rice Krispie. Snap, pap, crackle, and pop. I mean, and nothing feel. But you know what? It's how you respond to that. >> You can either respond to, "I don't believe. Why would God let me keep living? Why have I got all of this right here?" Or you can get up and say, "You know what? I'm just thankful there's another day. I'm thankful that I got my mind on God. I'm just I'm just appreciative for his mercy in it." I want to tell FAC this morning, it's how we respond to persecution, hardship, and trials that's going to determine is God going to favor us? You can say, "Why me?" Or maybe you could say, "Why not me?" What makes you so special that you're immune to trials and hardships? I believe, Brother Nolan, it was you that preached several years ago about a place out in Arizona that created the perfect climate. They had the perfect climate and and and and they built a huge bubble and they planted a garden. They planted trees and they planted all these things. It was the perfect environment, just the right temperature, just the right rain that would fall, just the right fertilizer in the soil. And one day they went in and they found several of the large trees that had toppled over. The results, no roots. No roots. Sure, they grew big and tall from above ground because it was perfect temperature and perfect amount of water. It was perfect daylight. It was perfect. It was perfect night. It was all of that. But a perfect life doesn't produce deep roots. It's in the midst when God is silent. When you can't when God is silent, he's not answering your prayer the way you want it. He's not coming through when you want. Well, the preacher told me if I'd run around the building, I'd get victory. Well, what if the preacher was just had good intentions, but it wasn't from God? What if you ran around the building and you still didn't get healed? You still got to serve God. Well, I just believed I gave him missions offering and I believed that my business was going to turn around. Well, what about when it didn't turn around? You still got to serve God. I believe the key to getting strong roots in God is when God is silent, don't you be? When you've not heard from God, don't you be silent. When God is silent, why don't you get a praise on your lips? When God is silent, why don't you get a worship on your lips? When God is silent, why don't you go before him and say, "Though you slay me, yet I'm going to serve you. You've done me nothing but." >> Come on, give him praise right now. I want to focus my Bible lesson now for the remainder upon an Old Testament character by the name of Joseph. Joseph wore six different garments in his lifetime. He He wore six different garments in his lifetime. Genesis 37 verse number three. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children because he was the son of his old age and made him a coat of many colors. And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceibly unto him. Now I'm going to tell you something today. All of us love wearing the coat or the garment of the love of the father. Oh, all of us love that furry nice coat of feeling the love of our father. All of us love walk. We love how it feels on our skin. We love how it feels on the inside. We love all of that. But we also love that on the outside people look at us and they say, "He's loved by the father. He's loved by the father." But can I tell you that that garment has a price tag? >> Sometimes to enjoy the love of the father, you have to endure the hatred of the brethren. You you see, you can't have one without the other. You can't have you can't have favor without tribulation. You can't have the favor of God. You can't get what was not due to you without going through some hardship and some tribulation. So now Joseph wears the nice fur coat. Made him feel good. I'm loved by my father. But he did that at the cost. at the cost of hatred from his brethren. Boy, we'd love we'd love to all be loved by everybody, but listen, let me wake you up this morning. News flash, reality is everybody's not going to like you. Everybody's not going to forgive you. Everybody's not going to forget things. You may be seated this morning. And we spend our lives trying to get everybody when we don't recognize there are some somebodyies that will forgive us and there's some somebodyies that will love us. >> So get it out of your mind you're going to please everybody. You're not going to please everybody. You're you're not going you're not going to please you're not going to please everybody. But what it really matters is not that you please everybody. But there's only one that should matter today and that is am I pleasing God? That's what his brothers hated him. A lot of times hatred God allows God God can God can use anything. Matter of fact, God God can use anything. God can even use what the devil mixes up and God can use what the devil mixes up in his kitchen to bring about his will in your life. You see, Joseph had these dreams of greatness. He had these dreams as a young boy of of being out in a field with his brothers and they were they were binding sheav. They were binding wheat and and Joseph had a dream that his bundles stacked up on top of each other while his brother's bundles bowed down and did obesience or did worship. So he told his brothers, he said, "Hey, I've got a dream. You you you know, maybe Joseph, maybe we have this here to learn. I'm going to tell you something. You need to be careful who you share your visions with >> because you're going to find something out about success. Everybody's not happy. Well, I got a promotion on my job. That's that's thankful. But I guarantee you if there was other names on that list for that promotion that didn't get, they're not happy that you got it. It's life. They were not happy with Joseph. Especially, I mean, we we got to bear that you're you're in a robe the father made you. And now you're telling us and they they interpreted. They said, "You think we're going to bow bow down to you? Huh? Are you crazy? You think we're going to bow?" Then he had another dream. He dreamed that the sun and the moon and the 11 stars. He had 11 brothers. The sun represented his father. The moon represented his mother. So he had another dream that the stars and the moon lined up and did obedience, worship to him. And he told that dream to them. And the Bible said they hated him yet the more for the dream. You know the story. Joseph goes to check on his brothers and they con concoct a plan in Genesis 37 23. Look at this. And it came to pass when Joseph was come to his brethren, they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colors that was on him. They took away what God had given. They took away what his father has given. Can I ask us all something today? How do we react in life when things are taken away from us that we know God gave us? We know God gave them. What is the reaction? Now stay with me for a moment now. They threw Joseph in a pit. In a pit. They put him in a pit. We're going to kill him. We're going to throw him in a pit. That's what man did. But God had a plan. When they decided to bury Joseph in a tent, God said, "You're not burying him. You're planting him." And there's a big difference between being buried dead and being planted as a seed for the future. You see, many times the favor of God takes us through different garments and we lose some certain things in life. Just like you can hold the seed in your hand, you can look at the seed, but in order for that seed to produce, you got to hide it in the dirt, you lose sight of it. And for some time, you see nothing happening. But just because you see nothing happening doesn't mean things are not going on underneath the surface. you want to bury me. But God said, Joseph, you got some plans in your life. You've got some dreams in your life, and I'm going to allow them to bury you. They're going to plant you. They sold him. Genesis 39 verse number one. And Joseph was brought down to Egypt. And Piper, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, brought bought him of the hands of the Ishelites, which had brought him down thither. And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man, and he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian. Can I tell you, just because you don't have the coat that God gave you yesterday doesn't mean that God is still with you today. Just because some people live in the past. Oh, I had this in the past. We were this in the past. I had that in the past. I had this in the past. But somehow God had a master plan for you. And God took what he put on you. But when God took it off, God did not forsake you. God is just simply getting you ready for the next step. And the Lord was with Joseph. And the Lord was with Joseph. And that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. Verse three, Joseph found fa grace in his sight and he served him and he made him overseer over his house and all all that he had put into his hand. Verse 5. It came to pass from that time that he made him overseer in his house, Piper, and over all that he had that the Lord blessed the Egyptians house for Joseph's sake. And the blessings of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. Can I tell you something? You need to stay connected to what God has favored. You need to stay fa you need to stay connected to what God has favored. If you will stay fa if you will stay connected to what God has favored, God is able to bless you in your house. Piper's house got blessed because he was connected to what God has favored. You see, it would be human tendency to be jealous of someone that God has favored. It would be human tendency to try to make an excuse for why they've got money or why they've got this church or why they've got this ministry. It it would it it would that's human tendency to degrade what God has favored to make an excuse for why you you don't have what they have. That's not the way to get the favor of God. The way to get the favor of God is to find somebody that you perceive is favored and connect hit your wagon up to them and watch God bless your house because of them. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. The Egyptian blessed him. Verse number six. And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand. And he knew not all that he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person and well favored. That meant he was good-looking. He was a good-looking young man. He was well favored and God was with him. You know, I'm telling you, you can be a person that is nice in appearance and God still be with you. Holiness is not homeliness. There are people we get sometimes anonymous emails and anonymous mail that, oh, that's a Hollywood production there at Morville. That's a that's a that's the that's the Kenny show there at Mir. Oh, that's all that. You know what that is? That's nothing more than people that are jealous because what God has favored. >> They're just they're just and and they they they can't understand it's not this LED screen that that that's brought us here. If you really want to know what's brought us here, be here a half hour before before Wednesday night. Be here a half hour in the prayer room tonight and you'll see a few hundred people come through there. And it's not a little whippery prayer. There's people in there bombarding heaven. There's people in there praying. If you really want to know what God is favoring, God favors work. God favors sweat. God favors tears. God favors a Listen, let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. You like the favor, but do you want to go through our persecution? You like the favor, but do you want to go through our trials? Do you like the favor, but you want to go through our hardship? Line up because it comes with it. There will be persecution. There will be being lied on. There will be being hated. but you don't respond to it. You just keep on walking for the Lord and you keep on serving him. >> I believe we can have an LE I believe we can have an LED screen and the spirit of God. >> I believe we can have 175 voice choir and robes and still have the spirit of God. I still believe that we can have a wonderful edifice to praise God and worship God and be the centerpiece of Mville, Tennessee and still be a Jesus name holiness one God tongue-talking church. I believe we can have that and this. If you believe we can have it, why don't you shout yes? >> Believe we can have it. He was well favored. But you got to get you got to get ready. When you're well favored, temptation is coming. Temptation is coming. One day, Joseph went in the house take care of something in the house. And Piper's wife, who was boiling with lust toward this handsome young man, Piper's wife, who was boiling with lust to have him to lay in the bed of adultery. She reached out. She said, "Joseph, lie with me. Let's go to the bed of adultery together. Let's go to the bed of sin together. Let's go to the bed together." And Joseph said, and Joseph said to her, he said, "Has your husband not put everything in this house in my hand?" You you know one way to battle temptation is when the tempter comes count your blessings. >> You you see the tempter likes to come and make you feel like you deserve this little bitty break. Why you you would deserve oh you would you would deserve this little little talk here that you're having. You would deserve somebody making you feel good. He said, "Has your husband not put everything in my hand? Do I not have the keys to everything around this house?" And said, "There's none greater in this house but your husband." And then he said these words, "How could I sin and do this great wickedness in the sight of God?" Now, what's interesting about that? Joseph called it a sin many years before God wrote it in a stone that it was a sin. He had had principle had conviction. He had conviction. Conviction is when you do things that's not necessarily written here. >> Let me say it again. Conviction is is when you do things that are not necessarily written here. Oh, your conviction will never if it it will never contradict anything written. It never contradict. He said, "How how how how could I sin?" And and he refused. The Bible said, "Now, let's understand something." The Bible said he went back in the house to do chores. And she said, "Joseph, lie with me. I've already told you. I've count my blessings. And the Bible said in Genesis 39:12, "And she caught him by his garment." What kind of garment was that? It was a servant's garment. It was a servant's garment. You see, sometimes when we're going through the process of being favored, we go through different changes of garments. I've done wore one that said, "I'm the loved of the father. I've I I I'm now wearing I'm now wearing a garment of service. I'm a servant. I'm wearing a garment of servantthood. She caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me." And he left his garment in her hand and fled and got him out. This is the second time. This is the second time. The first time his garment was taken by force and the second time he willingly gave his garment up. I mean, she reached and got him and he just he just slid out of that garment. His first garment was used as deception. They took that coat of many colors and they killed a goat and they poured blood over the coat and they took it to his father and they said, "We really don't know what's happened to him. Can you identify this coat?" Oh, he said, "I know every stitch. I know every seam." That's no doubt Joseph is No doubt Joseph is devoured and torn in pieces by an animal. Can I tell you something? Don't believe until the end. Because what you may be believing right now can be false evidence in your life. The enemy wants to hold you a code and say it'll never be the same. And can I say amen? But if it's in the hands of God, it may never be the same, but it will get better. Amen. It will get better. It may never be the same, but it will get better. >> She took his garment. That old flooy took his garment. >> I think she looked like the Chaquita banana mama. I think she she took his garment, laid it over the bed, over the end of the bed, started crying, rape, rape. And her husband come home and he got mad and he had Joseph throwed in prison. So now he goes to prison. Genesis chapter 39:20. And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound. And he was there in prison. I wish you'd read verse 21 with me. I wish you just start out. Read the first few words with me. But the Lord >> when it's going, anybody, can anybody identify to this? Have you been walking with God and it's going from bad to worse? >> But can I tell you when you're walking with God and it's going from bad to worse, God hasn't left you. >> I'm hated by my brothers. They throw me in a pit. They sell me. And then I get down to Potter's house. Things are going great. And now his wife lies on me. And now I'm in this prison. But praise God. You ought to shout right now. You ought to shout right now. The Lord was with Joseph. The Lord was with Joseph. I don't have a coat of many colors. I don't have a service garment. They gave me a shirt that's got a number across the side. They gave me a stripe. Now I'm now in a prison garment. The keeper the And the keeper and the Lord was with Joseph. You ought to underline that in your Bible. And the Lord was with Joseph. Showed him mercy. Gave him what? favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. The keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners that were in the prison. And whatsoever they did, he was the doer of it. The keeper of the prison looked not to anything that was under his hand because the Lord was with him. And that which he did, the Lord made it to prosper. I don't understand the seasons of our life we go through. I love to wear the fuzzy coat of the love of the father. But somehow for me to get to where I need to go, I got to lose that coat. I got to put a servant's coat on. And when I lose that coat, I got to put a pre Oh, I'd love to be out of this season. Oh, I I I'm so tired of this sale. I'm so tired of this sale that I'm in. I'm so tired of this 6x6 sale that I'm in. I'm walking around in here, but I got news for you. Even when I'm in a sale and I can't get do anything I want to do. Oh, how I'd like to be out of here. God is saying, "But I'm still with you." I wish somebody that's in a season of their life right now that you would like to see come to an end would get up on your feet and begin to give God praise and begin to give God listen. You're not going to praise him when you get the victory. You ought to praise him right now. You're not going to be thankful when you come out. You ought to praise him right now. Come on, praise him right now with me. Praise him right now with me. Praise him while you're in the chains. Praise him while you're in the bondage. Praise him while you're in the jail house. While there just may be an earthquake, praise him in this situation. You may be seated. You put in a prison garment right now. It is the garment of false accusation. It is the pro It is the garment of false accusation. Go ahead, fight your critics. Go ahead and fight the liars. Fight the false accusers. When you fight them, you're taking it out of the hands of a God who says, "Vengeance is mine. I will repay." Oh yes, I give it to God. God's going to give me a front row seat. God's going to watch me see them have car wrecks and bankruptcy. God's going to give me a front row seat. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You You missed it. God, brother Thorp is going to give them a front row seat >> because they thought they buried you, but they planted you. >> They thought they they they they slandered you, but they sanctified you. When they said he's finished, God said he's chosen. I got a chill bump on my arm right now. You could you could hang a coat hanger on right now. Do you hear me? It's not God gives me a front row seat to watch me have see them have things, but God puts my enemy. Does he not say, "I prepare a table before you in the God. I'm I'm about to run around this church." He said, "I'll prepare a table before you in the presence of my enemies." He going to put them on the front row. You may be seated. >> He's there in the prison. You meet a lot of different people in prison, don't you? The chief butler and the chief becker. Evidently, the butler didn't iron Pharaoh's robe, right? didn't bring him his wine at whatever time. Evidently, the baker must have gave him some biscuits that were gooey on the inside. He upset with him. He threw him in the same prison Joseph was in early one morning, the baker and the butler got up and they were troubled. He said, "Man," the butler said, "I had a crazy dream last night." Said, "I dreamed I was looking at a vine. Three branches shot off that vine and said it was grapes. Said I took the grapes and I I took the grapes and squeezed them. Filled the cup with wine and I handed it to the pharaoh. The old butler said, "Man, that's crazy. I dreamed something too." That was crazy. What'd you dream? He said, "I dreamed I had three baskets on top of my head and the third basket was bread." said the birds of the heavens came and ate the fle ate the bread out of the basket. They were troubled. Oh, Joseph said, "Let me tell you something. I know a little something about dreams. I I may be in a prison garment, but I know a little something about dreams." Said, "The three vines are the three days. In three days, there's going to be a knock on that door. And they going to call you, Mr. Butler. And in three days, you're going to go right back. You're going to be restored. You're going to go right back to squeezing the grapes and making the wine and giving it to Pharaoh. You're going to go right back up. Boy, the baker loved that. He loved that. He said, "Man, tell me tell me about your mine." He said, "Well, yours is not so good. Three baskets represent three days. In three days, they're going to knock on that door and Pharaoh's going to take you up there. They're going to nail your body to a tree and the birds of the air are going to come and eat your flesh. Three days, just like that. knock on the door. But before the butler went up, Joseph said, "Would you please tell them that I've been done wrong? Would you please tell them that that I've been stole away here? And would you please tell them that Piper's wife lied on me?" Yes. Yes, I'll tell them. I'll tell them. But the Bible said they forgot Joseph. And two full years. Oh, you do realize the little story I've been telling you is 11year journey. Sometimes God doesn't make all that he's going to make out of you and I overnight. Oh, I love our prayer lines. I love our worship. I love our running around the building. But there's some things God is going to have to take time. >> 11 years, few two more years went by. Two full years went by. Don't you know Joseph looked up at that door and thought, "Is he coming?" And he lost hope that he would come. But the old butler got up one morning, draw the bath water for Pharaoh, and get his wine ready. Oh, Pharaoh didn't look so good. And uh, Mr. Pharaoh, did you not have a good night's rest? Did you Did you not have a good night's rest? And he said, "No." He said, "Uh, I had the craziest dreams last night." What did you dream, Mr. Pharaoh? He said, "Well, I dreamed I was by the Nile River and and and seven wellfavored, fat, fleshed calves came walking out of the Nile River." Said, "They were the fattest calves I've ever seen." and said, "All of a sudden, out of the Nile River came seven ill-favored, malnutrition cows, and they came and they ate up the seven wellfavored cows and said, when they ate them up, said there was no difference. The the the ill- favored had had gained no weight. He said, "This troubled me." And he he said, "No sooner had I dreamed that than I dreamed that I was looking at a stock of corn and there was seven ears of corn on one stock." It said they were so large. It was so large. It said an east wind be to blow and a hot wind be to blow and shriveled up all the corn. He said, "I I just don't I just don't this dream is trouble." and and and and he got his horoscope and he got his magicians and and he got all them, but they couldn't tell him anything. And finally the butler said, "Excuse me. I I I c can I say something, Mr. Pharaoh. I know my fault this day." And I was in I was in the jail down here, the prison down here, and said, "God gave me a dream just like yours." And and and he told me, "There's an interpreter of dreams. there's an interpreter of dreams down there. He said, I believe that you could get him and I believe that you could I believe he could interpret the dreams. And in Genesis 41:14, it says this. Then Jo then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon, and he shaved himself and changed his change what? He changed his reignment and came unto Pharaoh. Lord, I've done went from arignment of love of the father. I I've done went from a raignment of servant. I've done went from a raignment of being in prison and now I'm wearing the raignment of expectation. I am expecting things to change. It is going to come when you least expect it. It came hastily. Can you understand? Joseph got up that morning, probably started sweeping the prison floors. And all of a sudden, it came hastily, a knock on the door. Joseph, where are you at? I'm over here in cell block D. You come on up out of here. Pharaoh wants to see you. Pharaoh wants to see me. And he got in there and he shaved himself and they said, "You you can't go before Pharaoh in the garments of prison and we're going to give you a garment." and and and Joseph is saying, "I just feel like something good is about now I'm making it up. Is about to happen. I just feel like something good." Listen, it's time to cast off your garment of doubt. It's time to cast off your garment of fear. And it's time to put on your garment. I just feel like something good is about to happen. I just feel like something good is on its way. Come on. Could you shout that with me today? I just got a different garment on. Please, today, to those of you that may not be familiar with the story, just let me hit the high points. He told Pharaoh his dreams. He told Pharaoh his dreams. He told him exactly what would happen. Seven years of pleies coming to Egypt, seven years of famine. And this is what you need to do. You need to put back 20% a year from prosperity. And the 20% every year will get us through the seven years of a famine. Pharaoh, Joseph wasn't asking for the job. But in verse chapter 41 verse42 and Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph's hand and arrayed him in vestures clothing of fine linen and put a chain about his neck. Oh friend, today when God takes us from one garment to the next, he becomes the second in command of Egypt. And just like the dream said, his 11 brothers got hungry and they came to Egypt. And the most powerful man, the second most powerful man stood at the grainery, stood at the silo and they came down and they worshiped or they bowed down before him. And Joseph revealed himself to his brothers and his his brothers. Oh, don't you want to be reconciled to? Don't you believe God could reconcile us to our enemies? Don't you believe those that have been our haters? Don't you believe those that have wanted nothing more than to bury you and I? Don't you believe that in time the merciful hand of God could get upon them and we would find ourselves face to face with our with our false accusers. We could find ourselves face to face with our critics. But they're not there to criticize. They're there to say, "Oh, how wrong we were. Oh, how wrong that we were." And you know what? We're going to be like Joseph. We're going to say, "Oh, no. No. You meant it evil, but God meant it for good. I wouldn't be the man I am today had I not went through that trial. I wouldn't be the man. You wouldn't be the woman you are today if you hadn't went through that trial." Lord, I've done preached too long this morning. Let me preach a little longer. No. Joseph, Joseph grows old. And in Genesis 50:22, Joseph dwelt in Egypt. He and his father's house. And Joseph lived 110 years. Joseph saw Ephraim's children to the third generation, the children also of nature. the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees. That's a good pep. And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die, and God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land to the land which you swear to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from then." Joseph died being 110 years old. They inbaled him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. He not done yet. God's not done yet. Our final act is not financial prosperity. Our final act is not some kind of family prosperity. We're getting out of here, church. You hear me? We're getting out of here. Oh, it's not Joseph. Joseph said, "Let me tell you something, brothers. It's not about us getting our bellies full. It's not about us having food to eat when the world's starving to death. It's about the grand plan of God. We're getting out of here. We're We're getting out of Egypt, church. We're getting out of here. A world that's turned upside down. A world that's filled with crime and violence and death. We're getting out of here. Standing with me right now. Goodbye world. Goodbye. Don't you weep for me when I'm gone. We won't have to stay here long. And God help me to remember the words. My feet are going to leave the earth. Just a pent. We're getting out of here. Thank God for the car we drive. Thank God for the home we're in. Thank God for the clothes we're wearing. But we're dying every day. And we're getting out of here. We're getting out of this place. Woo. Hey hey my feet hurt, my back hurt, my body hurts. We're getting out of here. He said, he said, "Boys, I'm 110 years old. You're never too old to prophesy. I'm 110 years old, and my best years are not behind me. We're getting out of here." And said, "God is going to visit you rapture. God is going to visit you rapture and take us to a place he promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It's a promised land down here for them. But our promised land is bu like you do the Egyptians. and bomb me. Brother Ivans, he was wearing a regal robe. He had wore everything from a coat of many colors to a prison coat to a servant coat to Egyptian royalty of finest. And they laid his corpse on a table and they stripped him of his robe and they took bandages and they wrapped around him. Grave clothes they wrapped around him and they have bombed him. And he said, "Now when the Lord visits you, don't leave here without me. >> Don't you leave here without me. Can I tell you? I don't know how long it is, but time will never diminish the promises of God. >> Time will never diminish. Oh, they've been talking about the rapture for 2,000 years, but that doesn't make the rapture any more or less believable. If you give me three more minutes, I'll tell brother Britt to take it easy on you tonight. Knock it off his time. Somebody say 400 years. >> 400 years. >> If somebody say over 400 years. >> Over. The death angel has come through Egypt. The children of Israel has fallen out into the streets. The cloud of fire of Shakana glory is puffing. Egypt has been destroyed. And the children of Israel has been enriched. They're about to march out. But Exodus 13 verse number 19 says this. And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had he had straightly swore to the children of Israel, saying, "God will visit you and shall carry up my and you shall carry up my bones." Can I tell you something? We've got one more garment to put on. We got one more garment to put on. It's when this mortality shall put on immortality. It's when this mortal shall put on immortal. We've got one more. Would you would you lift up your hands and your heads and singers, would you come out and begin to sing that song right now? I made it. I made it. I made it. I made it. I made it.
