Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Behold: unity like the ointment and the dew

  • He reads his head text entire: how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity — like the precious ointment on Aaron's beard running down to the skirts of his garments, and like the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion, where the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
  • Unity must never be mistaken for mere togetherness: two cats tied tail to tail are together, but they do not have unity.
  • The anointing oil of the old testament priesthood was a set composition that could not be put upon man's flesh or imitated, and its fragrance rested not only on Aaron but on the path he walked.
  • As the land of Israel lives by heavy dew more than by rain, so unity is likened both to the anointing and to the dew — it brings life.

Scriptures: Psalm 133:1-3

Guard the unity of the Spirit

  • What unifies the church is not a shared economic level, education, or earthly common ground, but the Spirit of God as its anointing.
  • Paul charged the church at Ephesus to endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace — to keep means to guard, and unity must be guarded as fanatically as doctrine.
  • A church can hold the same doctrine and still lack the same spirit of unity.
  • The church is all on one spiritual assembly line: length of time on it makes no one less or more, and the newest convert must not be talked off it by the adversary.

Scriptures: Ephesians 4:3; Ephesians 4:13

One body, many members

  • Corinth was fragmented by preacher loyalties — some for Peter, some for Paul, some claiming Christ alone as pastor — but faith must rest in the word, not in men.
  • Paul likens the church to a human body: one body with many members — feet, hands, ears, eyes — all directed by the head, and the head of the church is Christ; what moves hell is his name and his blood.
  • He calls his son up to show how every movement of the body is orchestrated from the head: when the head directs, the members must not go another direction.
  • By one Spirit all are baptized into one body — Jew or Gentile, rich or poor — and the same Holy Ghost is given to all.
  • The foot must not say it is not of the body because it is not the hand, nor the ear because it is not the eye: every member is needed, and the only way to heaven is as part of the body.

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 12:12-17

Steadfast in the apostles' doctrine

  • Acts 2:38, he says, is not the church's graduation diploma but its birth certificate — he is glad for tongues, water baptism, and the knowledge of the one God, but the life must go on from there.
  • The first believers continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine: the apostles were the ones who walked with Jesus for three and a half years, so their doctrine — not writings produced centuries later by men who never knew him — is the standard.
  • Fellowship rubs off: the three thousand rubbed shoulders with men and women who had known Christ, and the newest believer grows upward by the company of the body.
  • They continued in breaking of bread and in prayers, with fear on every soul, all things common, daily in the temple and house to house with gladness and singleness of heart — and the Lord added to the church daily.
  • When the Spirit comes in, behavior changes: as a child grows from crying to crawling to walking, the believer's conduct must grow past tongues to a life shaped by the apostles' doctrine and the body.

Scriptures: Acts 2:42-47

Not must I, but because it pleases God

  • A thing asked from scripture should not first meet the question 'do i have to do that to be saved?' — that speaks of immaturity; marriage vows never promise birthday cards or flowers, yet love does such things because they please the beloved, and God is to be served the same way.
  • He tells of a schoolboy his parents enrolled at the church's school who did not know a Bible existed: the boy came under conviction, was baptized and received the Holy Ghost, and went home telling his family that a dime of every dollar belongs to God.
  • Some may be physically unable to bend and wash feet, but they can sit in the service, and another will be honored to bend in servanthood — there are no big I's and little you's in the house of God.

The Lord and Master washing feet

  • He reads John 13: Jesus, knowing the Father had given all things into his hands, rose from supper, laid aside his garments, girded himself with a towel, poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet — the lowest job in the house, taken by the Lord himself.
  • Peter refused to have his feet washed, and Jesus answered that without it he had no part with him; Peter then asked for hands and head too, and was told the washed need only their feet washed — you are clean, but not all.
  • Having washed their feet, Jesus set the example: if I, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet, for the servant is not greater than his lord — and happy are you if you do these things.
  • Paul was not among the original apostles in the upper room, but when God educated him by special revelation, communion was included in it — 'for I have received of the Lord' — and years later John still wrote the scene in detail.

Scriptures: John 13:1-17; 1 Corinthians 11:23

Serve one another: prayer, silence, and reconciliation

  • A man or woman who goes through life waiting to be served is miserable; one way to serve is to pray for one another, and another is to keep our mouths off each other — words hurt, and even true things about a person's past may not need to be told inside the body.
  • Jacob did Esau wrong and fled his threat; years later, limping from his touch with God, he bowed seven times before his brother and made peace — reconciliation may demand an uncomfortable meeting, but it yields the peaceable fruit of peace.
  • He calls the church to the altar to settle grudges and offenses before tomorrow night's communion, invites any who desire baptism or the gift of the Holy Ghost to come forward, and dismisses the congregation to ask one another: is there anything I can do for you?

oh my my my my thank you dr lane stand with me right now dr lane you're gonna preach a little one god tonight you're gonna preach a little one god tonight yeah let's do it yeah these educated men i preached it don't you appreciate men like this that that study the word i mean he can speak hebrew and all that he gets to if i get if i try to speak what he speaks i get it all on my tie right here huh he he can speak all the you're educated in the word and you're you're gonna be you're gonna that's you that's your little bit of shrimp right there that's your little bit you'll be back you'll be back tonight have your bibles and return with me just for a few moments the book of psalms chapter 133 beginning reading at verse number one while you're looking at that while my mind may be on food brother rickett came to me yesterday i was the last speaker at men's conference and uh he came to me and he was all excited and i and maybe i assumed too much i thought he was excited pastor was going to be preaching and he said after you said there's jerk chicken in the coffee shop waiting i said thank you brother rickett we'll uh we'll continue on but uh they did that amazing job um amazing the global grounds everybody did an amazing job and we're probably wearing that phrase out but but we really mean it thank you psalms 133 and verse number 1 behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity it is like the precious ointment upon the head that ran down upon the beard even aaron's beard that went down to the skirts of his garments as the dew of hermann and as the dew that descendeth upon the mountains of zion for there the lord commanded the blessing even life for ever more that life that brother lange spoke about today is for you that life today is for the man that's here today that really doesn't understand why he's why he's here he may feel out of place the enemy certainly will try to tell him he's out of place but you're not in the wrong place you're in the place that almighty god has ordained for you life life today life just for a few moments today this is simply titled preparing for communion tomorrow night is our 21 days of prayer that'll be ended with communion and foot washing and i just want to speak to us today just for for a few moments put something deep down inside of our spirit if you had to care to put your bible down and if you would wouldn't mind just place your hand on your heart today you'd pray with me right now precious jesus god we love you this morning without you we're nothing god without you in our lives lord we have no being you're our hope for tomorrow you're our strength of endurance for today lord today sweet jesus walk the aisles of this church oh god touch every heart that is here lord may the sheep open their mouths today and may i be able to take the word and nourish the sheep today lord may this congregation lord be nourished and healthy god with your word so that we can continue lord to grow in grace and the knowledge of who you are lord move upon us today and god if you will anoint your servant one more time i'll be so mindful at the end of my bible lesson to give you praise and honor in jesus name we pray amen amen clap your hands to the lord before you're seated it is amazing the parallel between the old testament and the new testament no wonder jesus made the comment to the pharisees challenged them that they would search the scripture for in them he said you think you have life but these are they which testified me we understand that in the old testament they had a form of the anointing and it was the literal oil the composition that god said make this composition and told them the ingredients to make and said don't don't put this on man's flesh don't don't make anything like it it was what is called here in psalms it is not just called ointment it is called the precious ointment went on the head of aaron upon his beard it ran down to the skirts dripped off the skirts of his garment that anointing fragrance was not only on him but it was on the path that he would take where times you didn't have to necessarily see aaron to know he had been by there was a sweet fragrance that was there the bible then likens this ointment to the dew that would fall in the land of israel as you study the land of israel and dr lang would agree that the land of israel does not survive by rain necessarily but by dew that falls very heavy so unity unity there is likened to our anointing it is likened to anointing unity there is likened to the dew it brings life the writer of psalms begin by just simply saying behold behold the word behold there means to look at to fix a gaze of your eyes to to look at something behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell live together in unity now notice the word there is not just together because it is possible to be together but not have unity please never mistake together for unity as i heard the country preacher say one time you can take two cats tie them tail to tail hang them over a clothesline you have togetherness but you don't have unity he said how good and unpleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity why 21 days of prayer why prayer before church why the fiery preaching and teaching of the word of god why because we're striving not just to be together but we're striving for unity it would be in the it would be in the new testament the holy ghost we come we don't have a literal oil composition upon us today as the new testament priesthood we don't have a literal oil that drips upon us as the old testament priesthood had we are the new testament priests we have god's spirit as our anointing we have god's spirit that brings unity to us you see we are not unified because we're on the same level economically we are not unified today because we're on the same level of education we are not we are not unified today because we share things in common down here on this earth what unifies us today is none other than the spirit of almighty god the holy ghost the spirit of god is what unifies you and i today the word unity means a union it means unitedness we understand that in the book of ephesians chapter 4 and verse number 3 we read where paul simply says to the apostolic church at ephesus he says to this apostolic church at ephesus endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace can i tell the church roll up your sleeves if we're going to have unity at fac maryville and fac sevierville you've got to get ready to endeavor for it you've got to get ready to work for it the unity does not come uh just because we say we're unified to have unity in our church there's got to be a laboring paul said endeavoring to keep that word there keep means to guard if there's one thing we need to guard we are very we oh we are very fanatic about guarding the doctrine it's only listen you get baptized in this church there's only one way you're going to get baptized in this church you're going to get baptized in jesus name for the remission of your sins in this church why why are you emphatic about that because that's what the word says there's things that we protect there's things that we guard but can i tell you today we need to equally guard our unity because it's possible to have the same doctrine but not have the same spirit it's possible to cross the t's and dot the eyes and yet not have the same spirit of unity and paul said i want you to keep i want you to guard the unity of the spirit later in ephesians the same chapter verse number 13. he says till we all come in the unity of the faith in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the son of god unto a perfect man unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of christ the beauty of the church is we're all on this spiritual assembly line we're all on this spiritual assembly line some of us have been on it longer than others but just because you just got on the assembly line does it make you less than someone that has been on the assembly line for years you see even those that can say they've been in the church 50 60 70 years it doesn't matter how long you still realize god has work to do on you let him that think he stand take heed let's default don't don't always come to church wondering what someone else is going to get preached on we all get preached on we're all on this assembly line and to the precious family the precious man or the precious woman that just got baptized last week to the precious person that just a week or two ago got convicted by the holy ghost and you changed your life and you look around you say man i don't look i don't look i don't feel anything like like what's around that's the voice of the adversary because he wants to get you off the assembly line you see you're a part of this body but because you don't see where you fit in yet don't get off the assembly line there's another set of hands that are going to come and work on you here and fasten you here and fasten you there unity unity in first corinthians chapter 12 and verse number 12 the apostle paul once again once again church he's talking to an apostolic church he's talking to an apostolic church you see acts 2 38 is not our graduation diploma it's our birth certificate i'm glad for tongues i'm glad for water baptism i'm glad for the knowledge of the one god but all of that is a birth certificate it's not a diploma it's not a diploma and so the church at corinth they were having some issues oh they were separated they were separated by preachers brother miller they were separated by preachers there were those there that said oh i'm i'm a peterite i'm telling you peter was the man i heard the gospel from i i like the way peter preaches and others said oh no no peter's ignorant and then learn i like the scholarship of paul you know god does have a sense of humor if you think about it he sends peter ignorant and unlearned to the jews he sends paul a scholar to the gentiles you know why that our faith would not rest in men that our faith would rest in the word and so there were those said i'm a paul i'm a scholar those let's say i'm a peter right and then there were those that couldn't be pastored by nobody they said we're of christ jesus is my pastor you know paul had this separated in the body we don't need to be separated today if you have been filled with god's spirit you are a part of the body i'm getting us ready for communion because at one moment monday evening at one moment monday evening we're going to all have the same flavor in our mouth at one time monday evening we're gonna have the same the same substance in our mouth we're gonna have the unleavened bread all of us that take communion at one time and our mouths is gonna have the same substance at one time in our mouths we're gonna have the same flavor of the fruit of the vine and i hope that we can capture that not just once a year we have the same fragrance in our mouth but god wants the church to speak with the voice of unity we love god we love one another that's the voice of unity paul came around to this church he says in it says in first corinthians 12 12 whereas the body is one and half many members and all the members of that one body being many are one body so also is christ so also is christ we get to pick on our kids a little bit brother nolan come on up here for a moment all right paul said paul said to the church he says to this fragmented church please please don't ever just attend here become a part here he says to the church he says the church the spiritual body of christ is like a human body it's like a human body as feet has hands has ears hair nose it's like a human body and this human body all works together it all works together the movements of my hand and my mouth were first in my head in my brain because who is the head of our church christ is the spiritual head of our church we can't have a headless church that's only a scene for halloween anything that has no head is scary anything that has two heads is freakish the church has one head could somebody tell me what his name is his name is jesus he is the head of this church it was he who shed his blood for us it is his name it is his name that sets us free there's not a name of a church first apostolic first pentecostal first pentecostal zion first pentecostal this that doesn't move hell can i tell you what moves hell the name of the head of the church moves hell it is his blood oh can i tell you it is his blood in his name that caused the tentacles of the demons in hell that were so enrapt around our minds and our bodies it was his name and his blood when sin had us so bound up that we couldn't move and we were headed headlong to destruction and hell and we really didn't want to be in it but we had no power to be released but somebody found us and they told us about the name of jesus they begin to teach us a bible study and while the bible study was going on brother nolan all of a sudden you can't talk about his name you can't talk about his blood without his spirit showing up and all of a sudden there's a clump in the throat and there's some tears flowing down the eyes and the person is saying i don't know what i'm feeling i'll tell you what you're feeling you're feeling the wonderful delivering power of the almighty god that is made why don't you try it right now why don't you say that name jesus jesus oh jesus when you begin to shake and your world is falling apart why don't you just try it why don't you just say jesus god help me lord we're a body we're a body now this young man is about to walk down to his pew but can i tell you it's all orchestrated from his head his ears hear the voice of his father in a moment saying go be seated his ears were here his mind will be again to till his feet and as he steps his eyes from his mind will tell him their steps going down and be careful and as he gets to the pew to set beside the most precious daughter-in-law in all the world his mind will tell him this now if i tell him to go be seated and he goes in a different direction than the head and the heart go ahead go be seated watch how he functions i watch how he functions can i tell you as the body of christ today when god gives his word to the church let's connect with his head let's connect verse 13 for look at verse 13. this is why pentecost this is why we need the baptism of the holy ghost for by one spirit we are all how many of us we're all baptized into how many bodies whether we be jews or whether we be free and have been drink into one spirit do you know that solves a lot of issues right there what this world needs will never come out of the halls of congress you'll never make enough laws to balance the scales of justice there'll never be enough laws to even that these things in life what we need is the holy ghost because whether you're a jew whether you're a gentile let me break it down to us whether you're white whether you're black whether you're hispanic latino whatever whatever your nationality or ethnicity you may be when we get the holy ghost we get the same we get the same holy ghost whether you've got millions of dollars in your 401 k or where you're scratching waiting for the third day of the month to get your social security check aren't you thankful we are just all one body in christ one body one body for by one spirit this is why we need the spirit of god verse 14 for the body is not one member but many if the foot shall say because i am not of the because i am not the hand i am not of the body is it therefore not of the body if the ear shall say because i am not the eye i am not of the body is it therefore not of the body of course the answer to that is no if the whole body were and i where were the hearing if the whole we're hearing where were the smelling and he's just really giving something very elementary he's just simply saying be content with where you're at understand that you're working in a body the hand needs the foot and the foot needs the eye and it's so simple but it's really not simple because sometimes we in the church don't live like that we don't live like that we live like we don't need our brother we live like we don't eat our sisters we live we live like we we say things such as i don't care what they think well you should because somewhere another you're going to need them and they're going to need you and the only way we're going to make it to heaven is being a part of the body he's not coming back after any other group but his body he's coming back so you need to really work hard on am i in the body and then when those crazy thoughts start coming to you because i'm not the foot i'm not the body you need to dismiss that quickly and say no i may not be the foot but i'm the part of the body that's needed i am needed i am needed let me go on for just a moment let me go on for just a moment it's one of the reasons and we're very we we we preach the holy ghost and and and i believe it and we emphasize it and i believe it but let's carry on let's go to acts but let's not go to acts two and one tell you about the holy ghost coming the holy ghost has come let's go to acts 2 and 42. acts 2 and 42 the holy ghost has come 120 received it that morning and before the day was out three more thousand people received it the bible says and they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine you've got to understand to be a part of the body you really need to study the apostles doctrine and and it's it's it's it's really elementary why we should study the apostles doctrine because they are the ones that were with jesus for three and a half years they walked with him he spoke to them he talked to them he taught them they watched him now when jesus died rose again and ascended into heaven he left this body the charge of the church doctrinally doctrine's not a bad word it's a good word it's a good word he left it and it's called the apostles doctrine you see let's let me give you a little uh illustration that may help let's say a complete stranger calls the church she says to me reverend carpenter i am i am jane doe and you don't know me but my husband john died and we would like for you to preach john's funeral now at a funeral you always want to have words about the one that has deceased now who do you think you've got the you're already ahead of me you're already ahead of me but guess who i'm going to talk to about john jane she knows him i don't she's been married to him x amount of years she knows his habits she knows what scripture he liked she knows what song he wanted she know because she was there come on listen to me today if you need the apostles doctrine because they were the ones that were with him don't settle for writings that are two and three and four hundred years after christ men writing that didn't know christ never spoke to christ men that that heard from the herd from the hearsay to the here said did hearsay and they wrote or maybe they wrote because a deceiving spirit led them they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship now stop there for a moment you see there's something about the body that rubs off on you when you fellowship with the body there's something about there's something about not only being around a group and hearing what is being taught but there's something about rubbing shoulders with the body when you're new to this thing there's something about rubbing shoulder what was those three thousand doing those three thousand were rubbing shoulders with men and women that had had a relationship with christ when he walked this earth it was rubbing off on them oh this this is the value of the body and we've had such an attack on the gatherings together and people want to want to talk today about you know uh you know uh well well well going to church don't mean you're a christian well i understand that like standing in your garage don't make you a car all right attending a moose lodge doesn't make you a moose right but can i tell you when we come together in our corporate worship thank god that the man that just got on the assembly line last week can rub shoulders with the man that's been on it a couple of years and we not only got baptized but i'm also rubbing shoulders with some brothers in the church and all of a sudden i begin to look at somebody i begin to look at somebody that i want to reach up to out in the world when i was out in the world i just ran with people that i saw eye to eye with i didn't want to be like them and they didn't want to be like me we were just prisoners together but all of a sudden i get in this apostolic apostolic church and all of a sudden i start seeing men that i i kind of want to reach up to i start seeing women that i want to reach aren't you thankful for the body today i'm thankful for the body for the body this morning i'm i'm so thankful for this body today they continue steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread this is why small groups are so important and prayers this is why prayer before church prayer during church prayer after church 21 days of prayer that's why it is so important now watch this anytime a spirit gets in you it will affect your behavior it doesn't matter if it's the demoniac of gadara that man had demons in him how you know he had demons watch how he behaves watch how he behaves watch where he wants to live watch how he behaves at oh when god puts his holy spirit in us lust don't stop at the tongues come on let's don't stop at the tongues don't don't don't just say well matt matt my i i got the tongues i i got it man i i sure did get it you know i got it please don't stop there now now that's a part of it but don't stop there don't don't stop there don't you none of us have a child that that that moment when that child is birthed and where mom and dad are waiting for that we're we're waiting for that cry when that cry comes from that baby we are so thankful but i'm going to tell you something if 5 10 15 years later that baby's still making those same sounds we've got some problems can i tell you today and i'm trying to stay in a teaching mood right now but can i tell you in preparation for communion we have to understand that when the spirit comes in i do thank god for tongues but it's going to affect how i behave if i can get around the apostles doctrine if i can get around the word of god if i can have somebody begin to tell me what pleases god you know why i lifted my hands at church you know why i lifted my hands at church because i looked around saw other folks doing it i later found out god likes it i didn't have to understand it and i didn't necessarily have to like it but the one the lover of my soul my mercy giver my god said i like you to raise your hands he said i like you to publicly acknowledge me i like you to publicly children are not born speaking english children are not born speaking chinese children not born speaking spanish why y'all speak over the philippines 120 great day in the morning now born speaking that you know how you know how you you know how you get it it's whoever you're around if you're born to english-speaking parents it's gonna be mama daddy that's right but if you born your mom and daddy speak chinese that's what you're going to speak can i tell you that's why we have to remain apostolic in our doctrine because when we're born we want them to speak that we want that behavior we want that behavior to come oh don't let me i don't want to stop here continue to step ask the apostles doctrine breaking your bread and prayers fear that's fear of god came on every soul and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles and all that believed were together and had all things common sow their possessions and goods imparted them to all men as every man had need and they continually continuing daily with one accord in the temple breaking of bread from house to house did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart praising god and having favor with all people and the lord added to the church daily such as me should be saved look at this look at this with me when we get filled with the holy ghost and we we we go beyond just speaking in tongues which i'm thankful for all of a sudden my behavior begins to change now when we're first getting into this a child doesn't just come out of the womb walking that through a growth process they begin to roll on the bed and then they begin to crawl and then they begin to they begin to walk and then they begin to run it's all a process oh today can i tell the church let's return back if your behavior if you're finding yourself with old behavior creeping back in i've got the answer yes 21 days of prayer but get connected back to the body get connected back to the body the body will help correct that behavior the body will help correct you you know in the book of john the gospel of john we're going to do something monday night not only communion but we're going to also we're going to also have what is referred to as foot washing and i want you to look at the verses with me now i personally feel like to the church that any time we're asked to do something from scripture and our first response is do i have to do that to be saved that speaks of a level of your maturity you know i took a basic set of vowels 38 years ago i took a basic set of vowels better for worse richer for poor sickness and health forsaking all others keep the only unto thee so long as you live i took a basic set of vows nowhere in those vows did it say and thou shalt promise to give her a birthday card and thou shalt promise to send her flowers and thou shalt promise to let her walk in front of you and thou shalt promise to open the door for her and that no no nowhere and so if i look at life and say well my wife wants flowers and i begin to think well if will she divorce me if i don't you've missed the whole point can i tell you somewhere we have to get to a level that it's not a heaven and hell issue it's does it please god this this mentality this mentality of show it to me in the bible show it to me in the bible ah i show it to him well nowhere in the bible does it say thou shalt not play in the freeway but you got sense enough not to play not to let your kids play an interstate right there's just some things in the bible you ought to do because it just pleases god i'd rather get to heaven and find out there was a whole lot of things that i didn't have to do i'd rather hit heaven so hard that i spin the pearly gates off its hinges well i guess i'd say it this way i'd rather have it not needed come on now i'd rather have it not need it than to need it and not have it so when you start trying homebrew carburetor now now is this this foot washington this foot washing deal is it is this a heaven or hell is this a heaven and a hell issue i hope no one refuses foot washing but you'll go down here to the mall at lee nails and put your feet down in a pan bro miller i'm trying to be good for you this morning all right i'm trying to your superintendent and i uh dr bernard last week he and i shared the same pulpit there's a church in florida wanting to promote unity and so brother bernard preached and and then after brother bernard i preached and and we went out to dinner together and he he was talking about how much he liked that and i told him i said we ought to have a tour dr bernard let's have a tour together you and i you know a tour needs a name you know and i said i've already got a name for this tour he said what is it i said the scholar and the redneck let's do this let's let's do this let's do this together let's do this together you all know what i'm talking about god forbid someone said well i'm not gonna go down to the church and and and and put my feet no no no tub of water and god only knows whose feet's been in there and all all this stuff you know and then go down there and ask lee lee nails is that her name leanne go down there hey they put they put their boy um [name redacted] in our school a little boy vietnamese boy came to this school brother lange and didn't know the bible they didn't know a bible existed didn't know anything about the bible and and uh [name redacted] came to school and and he got under conviction we baptized him he got the holy ghost and uh we went back down said said [name redacted] he came home to church said [name redacted] just didn't say that dime out of every dollar belonged to god it said that's that's right [name redacted] saying god won't see us and god wants that well i'm here to tell you something that's called the bible but please understand today i'm not going to put a heaven on him you know what we could either come to communion this is a heaven or hell this is like baptism in jesus name i i have to do that come on body can we get me on to have to man i don't know how happy i'd have to be to go get her flowers and chocolate and and all that and and get a room and and all that if i knew man she told me if i don't have one by the 15th she's out of here i better go get them flowers i i don't want to serve god that way i want to serve god god i'm going to come tomorrow night i'm going to take communion now i understand there may be some of our older there may be some people that are they may be some people that are physically unable to bend down and wash somebody else's feet all right and i know i'm taking a sunday morning and preparing us for tomorrow night but we're a body there may be some that are physically unable all they may be to do is to be able to sit and that's good come and sit there may be somebody that would be honored to bend down and in the name of the lord exercise a spirit of servanthood because that's what it's about no big eyes little you's in the house of god we're all serving one another nobody better than somebody else come on well let me read it it's the last week of the life of jesus and in john chapter 13 verse number one now before the feast of the passover when jesus knew that his hour was come and that he should depart out of this world and to the father having loved his own which were in the world he loved them until the end supper being ended the devil having now put into the heart of judas iscariot simon's son to betray him jesus knowing that the father had given all things into his hands and that he was come from god and went to god lord let me say this the right way sounds like jesus is pretty sure of himself uh you know a lot of times people act weird out of insecurity there are people that are insecure that'll put on a halty cocky prideful attitude and they're really insecure can i tell you church today know who you are he's seen he i i get that he he is sure of his identity and watch what he does in verse four he riseth up from supper lay aside his garments took a towel girded himself after that he poured water into a basin now i want you to understand something john wrote this years after it actually happened he wrote it years after it actually happened look at the detail look at the detail another reason i feel that communion is important is that when god gave the apostle paul education by special revelation he was not of the original apostles he was not in the upper room when the lord talked to them about the bread and the wine he was born he referenced it out of due season i wasn't among the original but paul says in first corinthians 11 and 1 when he explains communion he says for i have received of the lord evidently it was so important that when god was giving paul that special revelation education that god included communion is years later watch the detail years later john writes watch this detail he riseth up from supper lay aside his garments took a towel girded himself after that he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples feet and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded now can i tell you the lowest of the lowest of the lowest servants wash feet if you had kind of graduated you still have may have to clean out the stable you still may have to wash the linens you still may be a servant in the house but even you would graduate up but if you you were bought and you were a servant you started with the lowest job of the house and that was washing feet the lowest job our lord our lord took the lowest form of a servant because this is the last time i can teach to you this is one of the last times i can pour into you verse 6 then cometh he to simon peter and peter sayeth unto him lord dost thou wash my feet in other words he sits there very proud watches those others and judges huh they listen they may they may do that but not me you're not going to wash my feet jesus answered and said unto him what i do thou knowest not now but thou shalt know hereafter he said peter just hang on for a minute i'm going to explain to you what i'm doing peter sayeth unto him thou shalt never wash my feet oh is that right jesus answered him if i wash thee not thou has no part with me if i don't wash your feet we're breaking up right now if i don't wash your feet we're done you're toast i'm out of here i have no watch how peter flips watch this simon peter said lord not my feet only but my hands and my head said oh if if you're going to talk that way just pour the whole bucket on me then lord isn't it amazing how some people will go to extremes on some things jesus said he that is washed needeth not saved to wash his feet but is clean every wit but you are clean but not all for he knew who should betray him therefore he said ye are not all clean so after that he had washed their feet and had taken his garments and was set back down he said unto them know you what i have done to you. you call me master and lord and you say well for so am i if i then your lord and master have washed your feet ye ought he also ought to wash one another's feet for i have given you an example that ye should do as i have done to you verily verily i say unto you the servant is not greater than his lord neither is that he that is sent greater than he that sent him if you know these things happy are ye if you do them the only time jesus uses the word and the kjv happy had to do was serving the only time he uses the word had to do with serving do you know what will destroy a marriage individual walk with god a marriage and a church getting out of unity with god what will destroy a church a marriage is someone that thinks they are the ones being served and you are the less than one serving me that will destroy an individual a man or a woman that goes through life waiting to be served is miserable if you're wrapped up in yourself you make a small present and a marriage to where the man thinks it's all about me and the less than my wife or the wife thinks it's all about me and my husband's the brethren none of that ever works and neither is the church work where they're certain that think i'm here to be served that doesn't work we are sometimes being served and we are sometimes serving but in the midst of that there's happiness that's going on there's spiritual joy that's going on in the house of god musicians would you come this morning do you know that one way that i can serve you john one way i can serve you sir i can serve you brother camry there's one way i can serve you i'll tell you the first way i can serve you pray for you pray for you let me tell you another way we can serve one another this is the redneck tour now dr langell said much better palatable well wasn't that a good word you know how we can serve one another keep our mouths off each other words hurt i said words hurt i said well you know what i said was true you know what past things that are true about my life and your life may not need to be told take the take the little girl that made a mistake in her high school days she's now a grown woman trying to serve god don't you know that she lives with a certain amount of regret she should never have to battle somebody in the body talking to somebody else in the body let's just pray for a moment would you stand with me let's just pray for a moment i know sometimes on sunday morning i end on a high note and we're shouting and the music's going loud and and and we're just dancing around and that's all well and good come on could we just pray for a moment let me just pray for a moment god it is not your will that any of our brothers or sisters be divided by grudges god it is not your will that any of us harbor god unresolved or uncommunicated events in our lives come on i really don't hear a lot of praying in this church this morning come on praise team just come on across the platform and get in place oh pray church come on pray right now pray right now oh mighty god mighty god mighty god mighty god mighty god mighty god mighty god oh god i love you lord i love you lord i love you lord i love you lord god help us lord god help us if we don't allow our tongues god to become vicious swords god poison darts god god none of us should have to battle the our own body god doing this oh god forgive us lord for sowing seeds of discord oh god oh god oh god oh god oh god jesus jesus jesus jesus listen to me for a moment we're going to gather in the altar please before now and tomorrow night to my knowledge to my knowledge i don't know that i have any i don't know i have an enemy if you're my enemy to this morning you have kept it well-hid but if you're here today you know you know yeah me and this sister's got all we you know because come on come on let's just get real let's just get i know we got company here today the millers i know we got doctor i know we got all this but let's get real let's get real you can't have the interaction of all that we do without every now and then having an offense here having an offense here well i want you to know that girl just broke my son's heart that just ain't right what she did yeah but it would have been all right if he'd have broke up with her right oh at school i'll tell you what that teacher's got and i'm not saying from time to time we will offend each other sometime we it might be an intentional offense but sometimes we can unintentionally offend somebody but you know who the bigger person is is the one that puts the olive branch forth first jacob did his brother esau wrong brother patterson jacob was wrong what he did jacob and his mama both were wrong to plan a deceiving for jacob to dress up like esau jacob did his brother wrong his brother said i'll i'll i'll get you he's right in the bible he said when daddy dies and we mourn 30 days i'll kill you jacob i'll take your life jacob i'll get even you see that's what the flesh wants to do the flesh wants to get even the flesh wants revenge some years later jacob had to face esau somewhere if you're going to be healthy in your relationship in the body of christ you're going to have to have an uncomfortable meeting the bible talks about in the new testament to communicate that saints communicating talking for with such sacrifices god is well pleased it may be awkward it may be uncomfortable but it will yield the peaceable fruit of peace and reconciliation it will just jacob did him wrong get him flat out wrong years later the last i heard from esau he would kill me i'm going to meet esau and the bible says esau had 400 men with him and watch this the scripture says as jacob has all of his family behind him jacob comes and he sees his brother he's already limping because he's got a touch from god i submit if you have to get a grudge if you need to do some communicating before tomorrow night have a prayer before you do it he's already limping because he's got a touch with god but sister lori when he sees his brother the bible says he bows and then he gets back up and he walks a few more steps and he bows again and he gets up and he walks a few more steps and he bows again and the bible says he did it seven times you know what he was doing he was defusing esau i've not come to fight brother i've come to show signs of peace and and listen to me now listen if you read it in the bible today read it this afternoon it's a beautiful exchange it's a beautiful exchange jacob turns around brother perry and he begins to say hey esau take some sheep buddy hey esau take some rams buddy and esau says i don't need anything brother i've got everything that i need and then all of a sudden esau says hey brother jacob why don't you take some things he said i don't need anything brother i've got everything that i need you know what we need today can't go back and right the wrong but i just need to fall into the arms of my brother i just need to fall in reconciliation to him but before we do that could you and i gather in the altar as we dismiss and should we just line our souls it might not be with my brother i may have some things in my life that i just need to talk to god would you join me in the altar this morning let's talk to our god today if you're here and you want to be baptized tell someone around you if you're here today you want to receive the gift of the holy ghost come on down we'll pray you through to this marvelous gift of the holy ghost come on move up as close to the altar as you can as close to the
