Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Ready to Give an Answer
- He has the congregation stand and reads the lesson's text, 1 Peter 3:15: sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.
- You give an answer because you have been asked a question: tonight he begins a series of Bible lessons entitled Questions That Apostolics Are Asked, starting with the question, what does apostolic mean?
- It does not matter what you are called, but it does matter what you believe.
Scriptures: 1 Peter 3:15
Apostles: Certified Messengers, Chosen and Sent
- Apostolic means like the apostles; an apostle is one set apart and sent out, a certified messenger of Jesus Christ: as an officer proves his identity by his badge, the apostles were certified, trained and sent by Christ himself.
- Romans 1:1 is cited: Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle — Paul shows his badge of apostleship in the very first verse, and the other epistles open the same way.
- Luke 6:12-16 is read: Jesus continued all night in prayer to God, and when it was day he called his disciples and of them chose twelve, whom he also named apostles, and the twelve are named.
- John 17:17-20 is read from Jesus' prayer for them: sanctify them through thy truth — thy word is truth; as thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world; and he prays also for them which shall believe on him through their word.
Scriptures: Romans 1:1; Luke 6:12-16; John 17:17-20
Built on Their Foundation
- Ephesians 2:19-20 is read: now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.
- Let a foundation get faulty and the brick cracks, the doors won't shut, and the house falls apart: the apostles' place is foundational, not decorative.
- Revelation 21:14 is cited: the wall of the new Jerusalem had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb — through all eternity we will look at those foundations and be reminded that their message got us to that city.
Scriptures: Ephesians 2:19-20; Revelation 21:14
The Commission: Beginning at Jerusalem
- Luke 24 is read from verse 33: the two who met Jesus on the road returned to Jerusalem and found the eleven gathered together; Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, showed them his hands and his feet, ate before them, and opened their understanding to the scriptures.
- The charge is read through the chapter's end: that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem; tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high; and they returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
- Three things were to begin at Jerusalem: the preaching of repentance, the preaching of the remission of sins in his name, and the pouring out of the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- Acts 1:1-4 is read: Luke's former treatise of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, and Jesus through the Holy Ghost giving commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen, commanding them not to depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father.
- Acts 1:12-14 is read: then they returned to Jerusalem and went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter and James and John and the rest, and these all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
- Some five hundred saw him ascend and received the blessing at Bethany, but only about 120 made it back to the upper room: do not settle for a blessing when you could have the Blesser.
Scriptures: Luke 24:33-53; Acts 1:1-4; Acts 1:12-14
Pentecost: The Wonderful Works of God
- Acts 2:1-4 is read: and when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place, and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- The tongues of fire were a sign of the inauguration of a new dispensation, the church age — as the mountain burned when the law was given, yet the law was read in its power for years with no fire following; the absence of fire does not negate the baptism of the Spirit.
- Acts 2:11 is read: the hearers testify, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God — the 120 were not preaching the gospel in those tongues; they were speaking the wonderful works of God.
- Acts 2:12-13 is read: and they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? — others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
Scriptures: Acts 2:1-4; Acts 2:11; Acts 2:12-13
Peter Stands Up: What Shall We Do?
- Acts 2:14-16 is read: but Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice — these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day; but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. The eleven standing with Peter said by their standing that they were behind his words.
- Acts 2:22-24 is read from Peter's preaching: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain, whom God hath raised up.
- Acts 2:36 is read: therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
- Acts 2:37 is read: now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
- Peter's answer is given entire: repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost — the very repentance and remission of sins in his name that Jesus said would be preached, beginning at Jerusalem.
Scriptures: Acts 2:14-16; Acts 2:22-24; Acts 2:36; Acts 2:37; Acts 2:38
No Contradiction: The Philippian Jailer
- The apparent contradiction is faced from Acts 16:30-33: the jailer brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?, and they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house; and they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and he washed their stripes and was baptized the same hour of the night.
- It is not a contradiction but a difference in the hearers' knowledge: the Pentecost crowd already believed — that is why they asked what they should do — while the jailer had first to be told the word of the Lord; and once the word was spoken to him and to all that were in his house, he was baptized.
- No one in the Bible was ever baptized repeating the words father, son and holy ghost; Matthew wrote that command and stood with Peter on the day of Pentecost without objection, because to be baptized calling on the name of Jesus is to be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
- He closes urging the church to embrace the apostles' message delivered two thousand years ago, and to pass it to their children and their children's children.

if you have your bibles and would stand with me tonight what a wonderful crowd for this first wednesday night and the year of 2021 if you're here tonight and you're a guest we welcome you we're thankful that you would come and worship with us and we look forward we look forward to meeting you after the service and getting to know you a little bit better first peter chapter 3 and verse number 15 says but sanctify the lord god in your hearts and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear now peter is saying here that we should be ready to give an answer to be ready to give an answer you give an answer because you have been asked a question and so tonight i'm going to start a few bible lessons entitled questions apostolics are asked questions that apostolics are asked if you put your bibles down let's ask god to be with us for the next few moments as we study the word father i do love you lord you said in your word that if the ministry loves you that we will feed your sheep lord help me god to feed this congregation as i witness tonight lord the young and the old worshiping with hands lifted lord help me god to educate our young about the ways of your word help me o god to reestablish and remind those that are older lord of the value of what we have embraced and what we have lived lord be with us for the next few moments god open our minds lord that we may receive this word and we may grow in your knowledge lord in jesus wonderful name we pray amen amen why don't you give the lord a hand to praise before you're seated thank god i love you lord i love you lord thank the lord thank the lord you may be seated it really doesn't matter what you're called some people get all hung up over titles and it doesn't really matter what you called but i want you to hear this next statement it does matter what you believe doesn't matter what you're called but it does matter what you believe so tonight we identify ourselves as apostolics we identify ourselves as apostolics so the question will be asked and no doubt you have had this what does apostolic mean what does apostolic mean what is the meaning of apostolic and you know you have had a grin on your face at people trying to pronounce apostolic all right and all the way that they have said apostolic you stay in the apostolic church long enough you'll you'll say it apostolic without missing without missing a beat to understand what the term apostolic means you have to go to the root word of apostle apostle for the word apostolic simply just means like the apostles or apostle like the greek word of which apostle is found simply means one who is set apart one that is sent out one that is sent to go to a place appointed it means a delegate specifying an ambassador an official a commissioned official member for christ now to better say this it would just simply be that the apostles were certified messengers for the gospel of jesus christ they were a certified messenger certified they were not only just certified messengers of jesus christ they were certified to preach and what to preach by jesus christ jesus christ was their teacher jesus christ was the one that certified them he was the one that sent them now when you understand this word apostle and understand what it meant for them to be an apostle it would be much like the term would be much like if you have ever had an undercover officer come to see you he doesn't have he or she doesn't have a police uniform on so the first thing they do to prove their identity is to show you their badge their badge is that piece of metal that is given to them that certifies them as a police officer someone of the law so when we mention the word apostle it's very strong in the bible days that these men are certified they are certified now um if you need some work done on your new automobile more than likely you will take it to a mechanic who is a certified mechanic and they'll not only be certified just to work on a particular part of your car but it'll even tell the mate he is a certified ford mechanic or a certified uh gm or or and the list goes on and on and on they're certified well what certified them the manufacturer of the product certified them to be able to work on that product well the difference between that and an apostle is that jesus christ god robed in flesh certified trained these men and then he sent them for an appointed for an appointed mission as a matter of fact and if you want to write this down real quickly but i'll just take you to romans chapter 1 verse number 1. romans chapter one verse number one now paul begins the letter to the romans the epistles to the romans this letter the first thing in this letter tells who it's from but watch romans 1 1 paul a servant of jesus christ called to be an apostle called to be an apostle romans is 16 chapters brothers and god had 16 chapters but paul felt it needful in the very first verse to go ahead and show his badge of apostleship he went ahead and said paul a servant of jesus christ called to be an apostle first corinthians one and one second corinthians 1 1. galatians 1 and 1 ephesians 1 and 1 colossians 1 and 1. first timothy 1 and 1 2 timothy 1-1 titus 1-1 and first peter 1-1 what do all of these many epistles have in common the very first verse paul or peter identified themselves as a certified messenger they identified themselves and in case you're writing it i'll go ahead and do it one more time romans 1 1. first corinthians 1 1. galatians 1 and 1. ephesians 1 and 1. colossians 1 and 1. first timothy 1 and 1 timothy 1-1 titus 1-1 first peter 1 and 1. there must be something to the identity of them being an apostle an apostle well let's find it out in luke chapter 6 verse number 12. luke chapter 6 verse number 12 follow closely and it came to pass in those days that he meaning jesus went out into a mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to god this wasn't a casual prayer this wasn't just some kind of daily devotion this was a time that is recorded that he spent all night in prayer to god must be something very important going to happen the next day wouldn't you say that would be correct there must be something important he's going to pray all night to god here is what is important verse 13. and when it was day he called unto him his disciples and of them he chose twelve whom he also named apostles he spends all night to god in prayer because he is going the next day to certify 12 men to continue the work after he has ascended into heaven of the 12 14 simon whom he also named peter and andrew his brother john james and john philip and bartholomew matthew thomas james the son of alphaeus and simon called zealots and judas the brother of james and judas iscariot which also was the traitor of course you understand that luke was written sometime after judas had betrayed the lord and hung himself and so luke records the fact that judas was one of the original 12 and he tags on to it that he was a traitor so now we have proof positive of these men and their names and that they have been chosen to be certified messengers certified messengers of jesus christ now later in john chapter 17 verse number 17 jesus is praying again because he is about to go to calvary he's about to shed his blood he is about to be resurrected and ascend into heaven and leave the work of carrying the gospel on to the certified messengers he's about to leave not to be in their presence and he prays for them he says in verse number 17 of john 17 sanctify sanctify them through thy truth the word sanctify means to make holy the only thing that can change our lives is what i'm doing right now and what we are attempting to become acquainted with in 2021 by reading our bibles our bibles is the only thing on this earth that can make us holy he says sanctify them sanctify them through thy truth thy word is truth as thou has sent me into the world now the man christ jesus is praying to his father and he says just like i was sent by you into the world even so have i also sent them into the world i'm sending the apostles into the world now let's stop there for a moment because you know as well as i do that on this one street alone is probably a half a dozen churches on this one william blunt drive is probably a half a dozen churches get us all together in one room and we would probably all say god sent me here god called me to preach god sent me here but let us begin to explain the ways of god and if you got six of us here you'll probably have eight different ways presented right and it gets confusing and we know that god is not the author of confusion so who's right well there's one way to tell who is right because we only know of one group of men that jesus christ sent you don't choose somebody because you like their personality there's there's so much that people should be should be cautious of today they choose churches based on how many uh ministries can minister to them or or they like the preacher they just like something listen those are all wrong reasons to go to a church go to a church because it preaches the truth go to a church because you can know beyond the shadow of any doubt i can tell you god sent me i can tell you that god sent me and i can tell you the word god the word says for you to go all the way under the water and yet there'll be another person come along and say god sent them and god said i can just sprinkle a little water on your head who's right well the truth of the matter is you need to find out what the original apostles because we know beyond a shadow of doubt right here it is we know he sent them into the world but this is not finished yet and for their sakes i sanctify myself that they also might be sanctified through the truth watch verse 20 very closely neither pray i for these alone but for them also which shall believe on me through their word we find that we're able to believe upon jesus christ years after he's been ascended back into heaven we're able to believe on him through the word that the apostles was going to preach how important are the apostles i'd ask you how important is the foundation to your house it's very important you better believe it you let the foundation get faulty it doesn't matter that you've paid a lot of money for that brick and a lot of money for that house you let the foundation get faulty the brick begins to crack and doors won't shut and the house begins to fall apart and the roof begins to bust apart and water begins to come in so the foundation is very important ephesians chapter 2 and verse number 19 says it this way ephesians 2 and verse 19. now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners but fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of god and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets jesus christ himself being the chief cornerstone how important was it the apostles they were certified by jesus christ they were sent by jesus christ we can believe and find jesus christ through their words and we build our life upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets later in the book of revelation john sees the new jerusalem coming down that new city that we're going to live in that city that john saw the measuring read and measured it 1500 miles wide was the length or the the breadth of that city 1500 miles long was the length of it 1500 miles high what a city what a city that we're going to live in what a city that we're going to live in but then john in revelation 21 14. gave us some details about that city he says in revelation 21 14 and the wall of the city had 12 foundations and in them the names of the 12 apostles of the lamb do you realize that not only do we find salvation through the words of the apostles on this earth no wonder no not not only do we find instructions to be able to come to god and serve god right but throughout all eternity you and i are going to look down at 12 foundations and in those 12 foundations is 12 names of the apostles of the lamb we will forever be reminded it was their message that got us to that city questions apostolics are asked i hope tonight from this bible lesson that the young and the old can take heart when someone says what does it mean you can tell them and then when they ask you why are you apostolic you can lay it out just like that i'm apostolic because those are the only apostles are the only ones that we know that preached what jesus wanted to be preached after his resurrection and before his ascension in luke 24 33 you remember the story i'm sure you do of the two men on the road to emmaus and they were very sad that jesus had been crucified they had all hopes that it should be him that would be the redeemer and of course they left not knowing and not believing of the resurrection and they were very sad when jesus came to them and they were so filled with sorrow that they didn't recognize him and he began to talk to them and they even invited him to come into their house and as he sat there and he broke bread he revealed himself but the moment he revealed himself he vanished from them these men got up and this is where we start these men verse 33 and they rose up the same hour and returned to jerusalem and found the eleven gathered together and them that were with them now why is it 11 there it's 11 because judas has hanged himself he's hung himself judas has already taken his life so now we have identified that the eleven that the eleven are there with a few more that's with them saying the lord is risen indeed and hath appeared to simon and they told what things were done in the way and how he was known of them in breaking of bread these two men told the story and as they thus spake jesus himself stood in the midst of them and said unto them peace be unto you and they were terrified and frightened and supposed that they had seen a spirit now before you get just a little bit too hot-handed to be judgmental they were terrified and frightened before you get a little bit too hot-handed to be judgmental well i don't know why they no think about you visiting the funeral home of somebody that died and three days later they walk in the room where you're talking all right so he just walks in the room and he says peace be unto you and they were terrified and frightened and suppose they had seen a spirit he said unto them why are you troubled and why do thoughts arise in your hearts behold my hands and my feet behold my hands and my feet that it is i myself handle me and see for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see me have and when he had thus spoken he showed them his hands and his feet and while they yet believed not for joy and wondered he said unto them have ye any meat and they gave him a piece of broiled fish and a honeycomb now this is kind of off the subject of why we're apostolic but let me tell you something about this a lot of folks think that in heaven where there's going to be a bunch of spirits floating on clouds jesus had his resurrected body he ate evidently oh don't you don't you want to go there there's going to be some eating over in heaven there's going to be some eating going on over heaven there's a river runs right through that city so you know if there's a river there's going to be some fishing going on over there right so we don't need to get in our mind that in heaven we're going to be a bunch of just spirits floating on wispy clouds they gave him a piece of broiled fish and a honeycomb he took it and did eat before them and he said unto them these are the words which i spake unto you while i was yet with you that all things must be fulfilled which was which were written in the law of moses and in the prophets and in the psalms concerning me then opened he their understanding that they might understand the scriptures who's he whose mind did he open up it's called revelation it was the apostles he opened up their mind he gave them a revelation and then he said unto them verse 46 thus it is written and thus it behoove christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day and that repentance and you really want to underline this and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations beginning at jerusalem so at jerusalem they're going to preach repentance and remissions of sins in his name and it's going to begin at jerusalem and jesus says verse 48 and ye are witnesses of these things and behold i send the promise of my father upon you but tarry ye in the city of jerusalem until you be endued with power from on high and he led them out as far as to bethany and he lifted up his hands and blessed them and it came to pass while he blessed them he was parted from them and carried up into heaven and they worshiped him and returned to jerusalem with great joy and i want you to understand this great joy they left and they went to jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising and blessing god amen what did they go to jerusalem with great joy to wait until they were clothed with the promise of the father which is the baptism of the holy ghost that's what the promise of the father is the baptism of the holy ghost three things were going to take place three things was going to begin in jerusalem the preaching of repentance the preaching of the remission of sins in his name and the pouring out of the gift of the holy ghost was going to come to them in jerusalem now let me tell you a hindrance people have in receiving the holy ghost unbelief unbelief unbelief can be identified by people begging god pleading with god you don't beg god for a promise you praise god because of the promise and you praise god he said tarry in jerusalem until how long should i praise god for the promise of the holy ghost until you get it well i've been i've been praying i've been coming to the altar for a week come to the altar praising god and worshiping god not begging god not pleading oh please god please god if i can phrase it just right some folks think getting the holy ghost is like a combination to a lot 14 hallelujahs to the left 18 glory to god's back to the right 19 thank you jesuses and pop and hello i finally hit it that's not getting the holy ghost you get the holy ghost because you just praise him god you promised me the holy ghost i thank you jesus i praise you lord i magnify your name god you're all together lovely thank you jesus glory to god i'm about to speak in tongues right now i just begin to magnify your lord none of this please god please please god please give me the holy ghost please give me the holy ghost no no no no begging they did not go back to jerusalem and beg for the holy ghost they went back to jerusalem rejoicing because he may gave them a promise i'll tell you people they they struggle getting the holy ghost because they focus too much on tongues so hold on carpenter you speak in a in an unknown tongue that's right but don't get focused on it don't just focus on it you don't don't you're not praying for tongues you're praying for the holy ghost you're not and man you're not even praying for the lord you're thanking god he's already gave it to you you just have to spiritually connect in praise and worship until you open up the way to receive the holy ghost but don't begging for the holy ghost get a smile on your face god don't have anything against us worshiping god happy i know sometimes we cry i know sometimes our faces get all distorted but i'm so happy about the promises of god i'm seeing the beauty of the church brother and sister the ender i'm seeing the beauty of the church more than i have ever seen it before in my life isn't the church a wonderful place to be tonight isn't the church a wonderful place i'm not just talking about the building i'm talking about what we've got deep down inside of us too many people i've often said it you go to buy a pair of shoes you don't go up there to pay for them say make sure that shoes got tongues in them you know tongues come with the shoes unless you get loafers loafers don't have no tongues you don't want no loafer holy ghost you get you want the holy ghost the promise the promise that was given but don't beg him for it he's not in you begging him he wants you to believe that it's yours he wants you to he wants you to he wants you to get by faith the bible says faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen he wants you to worship until in your mind you get an image of you just standing there talking in other tongues that's right god wants you to believe for your children your prodigal children to come home he wants you to pray until you by faith see them coming in the side door and walking out you can do that if we are if we're to have the faith as a little child what do we used to play when we were children let's let's pretend let's let's play pretend we can sit up we were generals in armies and we were all kind of thing we were playing pretend and as children in god i can just visualize my son's coming down i'll praise god my daughter's coming my my i'm going to see my children i'm going to see my children knock on the door you see that by faith you see it by faith and so they were continually now here's the sad thing about this tonight he lifted up his hands verse 50 and he blessed them he told them to go back to jerusalem paul would later tell us that 500 people saw him ascend 500 people watched him ascend from bethany and got the blessing at bethany and watched him ascend but do you know only 120 made it back to the upper room 380 people settled for a blessing when they could have had the blesser don't settle for a blessing settle get the blesser go to jerusalem do it the way the apostles and then in acts chapter 1 verse number one now remember luke wrote the book of luke and luke wrote the book of acts another thing i want to bring to your attention of why we're apostolic do you know that the abbreviation or the the acts is an abbreviation for it for for for the book we call it the acts the book of acts but do you know the apostles were so important that there's an entire book in the new testament that's theirs it's called the actions of the apostles the actions of the apostles don't let anybody downplay the apostles they're foundational they've got the message of salvation they are they are the the foundation the whole book now luke wrote the book of acts the actions of the apostles the verbatim preaching the verbatim evidently god who is the author of the bible god brother tyler wanted us to know what the verbatim preaching of these men were so in acts chapter 1 verse number 1 the former treatise that's a letter have i made the former treatise he's referring to the book of luke the former treatise have i made o theophilus theophilus was the man that luke was writing to of all that jesus began both to do and teach until the day in which he was taken up after that he through the holy ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen to whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs being seen of them forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of god and being assembled together with them apostles commanded them apostles that they should not depart from jerusalem but wait for the promise of the father which saith he you have heard of me go down to verse 12. how important is it to have the holy ghost well let's just see who all was in the room then in verse 12 then they then returned they into jerusalem from the mount called all of it which is from jerusalem a sabbath day's journey and when they were come in they went up into an upper room where abode both peter and james and john and andrew and philip and thomas and bartholomew and matthew the son matthew and james the son of alphaeus and simon zealots and judas the brother of james these all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication with the women and mary the mother of jesus and with his brethren look at that if mary needed the holy ghost i mean she was the vehicle that brought the savior into the world but she was there on the day of pentecost and was filled with the holy ghost it was about 120 the scripture will let us know and now in acts chapter 2. now get the scenery they've been there between seven to ten days and i'm not going to fall out of the boat with anybody i don't believe we're going to get to heaven brother erickson and peter is going to meet us at the gate and say how many days did they carry for the holy ghost and we're going to say seven wrong go the other direction no i don't believe that's going to happen all right so between some seven to ten days they were in the temple they were there worshiping and praising god they were not begging they were worshiping they were praising god they were excited about the resurrected savior that they had embraced and then acts 2 and 1 came and when the day of pentecost was fully come they were all with one accord in one place and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them clothing tongues like as a fire and it set upon each of them and they were all filled with the holy ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance that word means the spirit gave them the ability now let me help us all out because someone will try to trap you into this question say you get the holy ghost just like they did in the book of acts yes we do then they may say to you where's the fire because when they got the holy ghost on the day of pentecost there were cloven tongues balls of fire that came down and set up on their heads where is the fire and the answer to that is fire was a sign of the inauguration of a new grace dispensation that was coming to this world called the church age and i'm going to tell you you better be thankful to god you're in the church age tonight but i gotta i gotta tell you this the doors of the church age are shutting and the sun is setting on the church age and if you're not in the church you better get in the church and you don't join the church you're baptized into the church that's what the apostles preached there wasn't no church joining going on you you were baptized by one spirit by one spirit you were you were baptized and so just like when the law was given when moses got the ten commandments the whole top of the mountain was on fire it was that inauguration that god had given the law but for many years the law would be read in its power and no fire would follow but because there was the absence of fire did not negate the fact that it was the power of the law we don't have the tongues of fire but we do have the baptism of the spirit and that's what god opened up with the church age and i i don't know i just want to ask every spirit-filled person in this room tonight are you not thankful that you've been filled with the spirit of almighty god aren't you thankful you've been filled with the spirit of the almighty god i'm here to tell you all this craziness going on in this world today you don't have to have heart failure there's going to be a trumpet going to sound and we're going to say goodbye world goodbye goodbye world goodbye don't get trapped into this there was 120 that were speaking in other tongues at least at least 18 of the 120 spoke a known language but it was unknown to them it was a known language but it was unknown to them they were not bilingual they were poor uneducated galileans but when the holy ghost filled them the holy ghost gave them the ability the utterance to speak a known language at least 18. there was 120 that were filled with the holy ghost but don't fall prey to this write it down because you'll hear this they'll just boldly say god allowed them to preach the gospel in their languages that's how the gospel was dispersed i mean some of the most educated and i do believe they know better some of the most educated men and women stand behind pulpits and say though god gave them the holy spirit so they could preach the gospel on that day not so not so how do you know it's not so because the bible tells us what they were speaking acts chapter 2 verse number 12 acts 2 and 12. and they were all amazed and were in doubt saying one to another what mean at this excuse me i said 12 i meant to go to 11. and then if you just go back one more verse greeks and arabians now now they're listing all the 18 languages greeks and arabians we do hear them speak in our tongues languages the wonderful works of god not the gospel well how do you know you don't think the gospel is a wonderful work of god i absolutely know the gospel is a wonderful work of god but i'll prove i'll prove beyond a shadow of a doubt they were not preaching the gospel and the way that i'll prove that well let me read verses 12 and 13. and they were all amazed and were in doubt saying one to another what mean it this how are these uneducated galileans bilingual others mocking said these men are full of new wine it will amaze you the extent the enemy will go to explain away the power of god since when to getting drunk ever caused somebody to become bilingual but back to my proof positive i know they didn't they didn't get the holy they didn't have the gospel preached to him because at verse 14 it says but peter standing up with the eleven lifted up his voice and said unto them ye men of judea and all ye that dwell at jerusalem be this known unto you and hearken to my words for these are not drunken as ye suppose seeing it is but the third hour of the day but this is that which is spoken by the prophet joel now the first thing i want you to go back to verse 14 and see but peter's standing up with the 11 lifted up what he's not speaking in other tongues he now lifts up his voice and he begins to explain it it was joel's prophecy he comes all the way down to verse 22. come down to verse 22. you men of israel hear these words jesus of nazareth a man approved of god among you by miracles and wonders which god did by him in the midst of you as ye yourselves also know him being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of god ye have taken and my wicked hands have crucified and slain whom god hath raised up now listen what's he doing he's starting to preach the gospel to him he's starting to tell them about the death burial and resurrection he's he's telling them he's telling them the gospel he goes all the way down verse 26 27 28 he comes all the way down and verse number 36 he says therefore let all the house of israel know assuredly that god hath made that same jesus whom you have crucified both lord and christ now when they heard this they were pricked in their heart and said unto peter and to the rest of the apostles men and brethren what shall we do two questions two questions very quickly acts 2 12. there's two questions here acts 2 12 we'll tell you one one of the questions what meaning this everybody say that with me that that's what the crowd's saying what mean of this acts 2 37 men and brethren what shall we do two questions one in acts 2 12 1 in acts 2 37 what's the difference between the two questions at acts 2 12 they heard galileans speaking the wonderful works of god i'll tell you what it wasn't it wasn't the gospel for had it been the gospel brother xavier acts 2 13 would have read men and brethren what shall we do they didn't know they needed to do anything well then what was they saying the wonderful works of god would you just pick one creation's a pretty neat wonderful work of god go ahead and pick that one or how about three boys thrown into a furnace and god came down and walked with them picked that one or how about a man thrown in a lion's den and the lions didn't eat him pick that one or how about water coming out of a rock or bread coming down from heaven there is just many wonderful works of god that you can pick throughout the bible just pick one but i'll tell you what it wasn't it wasn't the death burial and resurrection of jesus christ that came through the preaching of peter and while i'm at it while i'm at it there's no confusion among the apostles because the bible says the bible says in acts 2 14 it's amazing when you just slow down read the bible some things you can get out of it but peter standing up with the eleven you know what happened when peter got up to preach brother white the eleven others stood up with him what were they saying by standing up they're saying we're behind him we do it all the time sometimes i'm preaching something and it it's such the truth that you it's almost automatically you'll say something like amen amen or sometimes i'm preaching something and it'll just man an amen won't do it you just got to stand up i mean in the midst of hundreds of people you just stand up you know what you're saying when you're standing up i believe it so much i'm on my feet right now i am on i believe what i believe what's being said and when peter stood up the other eleven stood up with him now here's the amazing thing here's the amazing thing one of the eleven was matthew he wrote the book of matthew had peter said something that wasn't right matthew could have kept him on the shoulder and said pete that's not the way we're supposed to do it but you see when they said men and brethren what shall we do you may be seated i know you believe this you may be seated and that's chapter two this is another thing i i just want us to be a witness the church the the lord's coming back and and we gotta be busy telling everybody we can about this apostles message we got to be we got to get there's a lot of phony stuff that won't deliver there's a lot of man-made religion that won't deliver but give me that old-time religion that was delivered by the jesus christ in the apostles don't let anybody trap you here men and brethren what shall we do that's acts 2 37 see if this don't sound familiar then peter said unto them repent be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost sound familiar sure does because that's what he told them and that repentance and remission of sins would be preached in my name among all nations beginning at jerusalem meaning brethren what shall we do then peter said unto them repent but wait a minute we've got a contradiction it would seem go with me to acts chapter 16 and verse number 30. because we got a philippian jailer that asked a question in acts chapter 16 and verse number 30. the jailer brought them out and said sirs what must i do to be saved now let's please just write this down this is good the jailer brought them out and said sirs what must i do to be saved give me the next verse what did paul say and they said believe on the lord jesus christ and thou shalt be saved in thy house wait a minute peter said one message and this is where they'll try to tell you this they'll say well on the day of pentecost that was for the jews wasn't for the jews it was for everybody but why did peter tell the crowd brother pool repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for remission your sins you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost and then why did paul turn around and tell the philippians when he said what do i need to do to be saved and paul said believe thou upon the lord jesus christ is it a contradiction it is not a contradiction it is a level of knowledge of two different people in acts chapter 2 peter had already preached the death burial and resurrection of jesus christ and they believed it how you know they believed it because they said men and brethren what shall we do you don't ask if you need to do something if you don't believe you need to do it they believe man we have we have crucified the lord the the savior what shall we do peter didn't say believe that upon the lord jesus christ they already believed upon the lord jesus christ peter said after believe there's another step and you need to repent and be baptized put acts 16 acts 16 and verse number 30 back up there and let's read it's a philippian jailer he brought him out said sirs what must i do to be saved then and they said believe on the lord jesus christ and thou shalt be saved in thy house see you've got to believe on jesus christ and they spake unto him the word of the lord i wonder what that was well i think i know what that was and to all that were in his house they spaken to him the word of the lord and he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes listen the jailer put the stripes on their backs and when the jagger found out who they were he repented of it what he had put on their back now he tries to wash away he washed their stripes and was baptized how did he know to get baptized because they preached that to them so we don't have two contradictions here one you can be saved by simply believing upon the lord jesus christ period or you can be saved by repenting and getting baptized and being full of the holy ghost no two contradictions it is simply the level of the knowledge that peter was speaking to and paul was speaking to and then before i send you home let me address no one in the bible was ever baptized repeating the words father son and holy ghost no one no one that didn't come along to hundreds of years later by men who never even knew the original apostles although they wrote what was called the apostles creed don't believe that because they were not certified messengers of jesus christ no one no one is it important sure it's important if peter uh brother dean if peter was wrong that day when he said when they said men and brethren what shall we do and peter said repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ matthew was standing right there matthew wrote matthew 28 19. why didn't he clear his throat and object or set down or do something because he knew peter was obeying the command that jesus gave because to get into this step i've heard people tell me the reason they're not going to be baptized in jesus name i've actually had people tell me i would rather obey jesus than peter with that mentality what are you going to believe about this book you have to believe the one he left the keys with didn't obey what he said to do but the truth the matter is when you're baptized calling out the name of jesus you are baptized in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost i'm glad tonight to embrace the wonderful truth that flowed 2 000 years ago i want to believe it to the day i die i believe it's going to be the message to get us out of this earth i want my family to embrace it and my children and my children's children and their children to embrace this wonderful truth and should jesus tarry another 100 years may this place be filled with people that value the wonderful truth of god's word would you stand with me right now and if you're thankful for the truth would you begin to worship the lord right now thank you lord i love you god i magnify you lord i magnify you lord i magnify you god i thank you lord for the truth oh god this old world's a reeling and rocking oh god this world is getting more unrighteous as the day goes by oh i'm so thankful for that apostle's message god i'm so thankful lord for that message god for the apostles message lord help us to have a love for it god help our young people lord help our beautiful young people that that lord they set so attentive tonight god help them to get this inside of their hearts lord god help lord our our elders that are gray-headed lord that have walked this way for some time lord help us god to rejoice in this great truth lord lord i love you and lord i praise you and lord i magnify you in jesus wonderful name we pray amen and amen god bless you you're dismissed in jesus
