Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Drawn away of his own lust

  • The text was read entire: Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed; then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death — do not err, my beloved brethren. God may put a person in a trial or a test, as He did Abraham, but He will never tempt anyone to sin.
  • His governing question: drawn away from what? Whatever a man is drawn away from is good and is keeping him in right relationship with God; lust is simply a strong desire or craving for something forbidden and sinful.
  • Eve was drawn away from all the trees she could freely eat from until her focus settled on the one tree she could not; Samson was drawn away from his purpose as the deliverer of Israel and let his lust run wild and unchecked.
  • At Jericho, where God had declared everything in the city His own as a type of first fruits, one man was drawn away from the victory to silver and gold and clothing, hid them in his tent, and was stoned with his family; and Judas, chosen with praise inside him, was drawn away of his own lust and enticed — none of these stories ends well.

Scriptures: James 1:13-16

The graves of lusting

  • Numbers 11 was read: the mixed multitude fell a-lusting, and Israel wept again, Who shall give us flesh to eat? We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic — but slaves do not eat freely, and lust had rewritten their memory, making the things of God look ugly and the things of Egypt look good.
  • The manna was God's miraculous bread from heaven, angels' food that fell every morning as proof a God was taking care of them; over time it grew common, and they ground it and beat it and baked it trying to make it something new. His warning: do not let your walk with God grow common.
  • God gave them what they craved: quail fell a day's journey on every side of the camp, two cubits high upon the face of the earth, and while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was kindled and He smote the people with a very great plague; the place was named for the people that lusted who were buried there.
  • The application turned personal: he does not want his tombstone to read greed or money; stop chasing the dollar — if you want true joy, chase the Holy Ghost; if you want true peace, chase after God.

Scriptures: Numbers 11:4-8; Numbers 11:31-33

Lust is a heart condition

  • Lust does not start on the outside; it starts in the heart. Jesus said it: Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already with her in his heart — the sin is committed in the heart first, and it is only a matter of time before it is committed on the outside.
  • Galatians names the war: Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh, for the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other — and every believer decides which one will be the conqueror.
  • The children of God do not pray to get victory; they pray from the high ground of victory, because Jesus won it at Calvary and at an empty tomb and gave it to His church in the power of the Holy Ghost fifty days later.

Scriptures: Matthew 5:27-28; Galatians 5:16-17

Present your bodies a living sacrifice

  • Paul begs — that is what beseech means — by the mercies of God: present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Nothing about God makes sense without a submitted spirit, and there is not one thing God asks of us that is bad for us physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, or spiritually.
  • Many want Jesus but do not want to give Jesus their bodies, like moving into a mortgaged house and refusing the payments; but the word stands: What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
  • Against the saying that only the inside matters because God looks on the heart, he answered: God can see the heart, but sinful man cannot — all man can see is the outside, which is why God is to be glorified in the body; he once carried his Bible in an emptied beer carton to make the point, and the biggest battle of holiness is submitting to God and wanting His approval above man's.

Scriptures: Romans 12:1; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Guard your heart

  • Second Samuel 11 was read: at the time when kings go forth to battle, David tarried still at Jerusalem, and in an eveningtide he arose from his bed, walked upon the roof of the king's house, and saw a woman washing herself, and sent and inquired after her — the wife of Uriah the Hittite. The issue was not what David saw; the issue was David's heart, and no one gains victory blaming anything outside his own heart.
  • Proverbs 4:23 was read aloud together: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life — guard what is allowed to come in, because whatever comes in will multiply and go out; the old preaching about watching entertainment, music, and what the eyes see and ears hear was never about control but about keeping hearts pure and holy.
  • Psalm 139 was read aloud together as the prayer of the teaching: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
  • Jeremiah 17:9 gives the reason the search must be God's: the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? The heart will deceive its owner every time, but in a real prayer meeting of searching, God shows a person what is in there — and the phone calls to ask forgiveness begin.

Scriptures: 2 Samuel 11:1-3; Proverbs 4:23; Psalm 139:23-24; Jeremiah 17:9

Love the Lord with all your heart

  • A scribe who had heard the reasoning asked Jesus which is the first commandment of all, and the answer was read: The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.
  • It is not good enough just to know there is one God — the devil knows there is one God and trembles; what changes a life is loving God with all the heart, with no room left for anything else, and the one who loves Him that way will not lose his life but find it, with a joy he never dreamed he could find.

Scriptures: Mark 12:28-30

Regret or teacher

  • The title is the choice every mistake presents: a mistake can breathe the cancer of regret through a life, or it can be allowed to become the greatest teacher that will ever help that life. David's repentance psalm holds the key in verse 3: For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me — not a life sentence of guilt and shame, but a reminder carried forever of the mercy and grace that reached down and forgave him and gave him second chance after second chance.
  • By the law David should have died for adultery and for taking a man's life, and he lived out his years knowing it; and the lesson showed decades later in 2 Samuel 21, when the Philistines had yet war again with Israel and David waxed faint before a giant's son with a spear of three hundred shekels and a new sword, and one of his men smote the Philistine and killed him, and his men swore he would go no more out to battle, that he quench not the light of Israel. The preacher heard the old king's answer in it: the last time he stayed home while the battle went on he fell into a heap of trouble — he would rather die on the battlefield than stay home and make the same mistake again.
  • The prodigal of Luke 15 said, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me, and wasted his substance with riotous living; when he came home saying, Make me as one of thy hired servants, the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: and bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.
  • One thing the son did not get back was the inheritance — and he did not magnify what he lost, because the father gave him something greater than inheritance: a restored relationship and worship in the father's house. The devil wants a returning sinner to focus on what was lost in sin; the call is to get the mind on the music and dance with the Father, and the closing prayer rebuked condemnation and shame in Jesus' name.

if you have your Bibles turn to the Book of James James chapter 1 and verse number 13 I mentioned this last night at the several campus that God is good God is good a young man came to Jesus and he said good Master what must I do to inherit eternal life Jesus asked him a question Jesus said uh why do you call me good why do you call me good the only thing I can surmised by that question was that that young man came to Jesus with a hearsay somebody else had told him he's a good Master somebody else had told him you see when you know he's good I don't need anybody hearsay that's not that hearsay is not even allowed in the court of of Law and it shouldn't even be allowed in the house of God I'm not calling him good tonight because you say he's good I'm calling him good tonight because I know he's good because he's been good to me if he's been good to you tonight would you give him a praise right now come on if he been good to you if he's been good to you not to the church not to your family but has he personally been good to you tonight and I praise him before I read my text evening I want to give the I want to First say thank you to all the church family that made their way to Bridges Funeral Home Bridges Funeral Home on Monday evening uh to pay respect to brother Carl Perry's brother Gary and it's about a I don't know 30 30 or 40 minute drive from mville and there were several of you wonderful people that came and it meant so much to the meant so much to the per Peri family and um just shortly there after uh we got the call that uh sister Rea thorp's daughter Candice had passed away and it's a very special unique situation with Candace and she passed away on Sunday Sunday evening matter of fact they were singing around the bed I'll Fly Away Oh Glory some glad morning and I think the Lord just decided at the end of that song I'll go ahead and take Candace and and he did well tomorrow evening at the same same Bridges Funeral Home uh as brother Perry's brother was at we're going to be receiving friends from 5 o' till 8:00 and then right around the 8:00 hour uh we'll be having some prayer and saying a few words and then they're going to be taking Candice for internment and another service over to Darden Tennessee that's over on the west side of the state on Saturday so as many as you as can tomorrow evening as many as you as can let's go by the funeral home and let's give our love to sister brother and sister th and God will God will bless us if we do are you there in James can you say Amen James 1 and3 let no man say when he is tempted I am tempted of God for God cannot be tempted with evil neither tempteth he any man but every man is tempted when he is drawn way of his own lust and enticed then when lust hath conceived it bringeth forth sin and sin when it is finished bringeth forth death do not he my beloved Brethren do not he I want to brother Nolan talked about he didn't get all of his message out of his heart Sunday night I didn't get all of Bine out of of my heart on Sunday morning I made the Mist I made the um statement that a mistake in your life and we've all made mistakes we've all made mistakes can we say Amen we've all made mistakes and you can either allow a mistake to breathe the cancer of regret through your life or you can allow a mistake to be the greatest teacher the greatest teacher that'll help you in life so tonight I've chosen for a title regret or teacher regret or teacher father I love you tonight thank you Lord for this midweek service thank you God for the opportunity to come together with brothers and sisters of like Precious Faith Lord as we lift up your name tonight I ask for you to bless all the different classes that are going on right now and all the different age groups Lord Lord anoint and bless every teacher tonight that's bringing the word Lord Jesus tonight I ask that you would anoint our hearts in this Auditorium and go beyond this Auditorium to our live stream and touch those that are watching tonight Lord help me to feed your sheep tonight for God you are good you are good you are good in Jesus wonderful name we pray and everybody said amen you may be seated we read here where James begins s to write and he says whenever you are tempted to sin don't let any man say when he's tempted to sin that he is tempted that he is tempted of God now God may put you in a trial and God may put you in a test like he did Abraham but God will never tempt you he will never tempt you to be immoral he'll never tempt you to sin and so James is simply saying if any man is tempted said don't let him say that he's tempted of God for God cannot be tempted with evil neither would God tempt any man but then he says in verse 14 but every man no one is excluded but every man I thank God every word in the Bible is there for a reason but every man is tempted when he is drawn away when he is drawn away of his own lust and entic then he goes through the process of being drawn away being drawn away of your own lust and enticed and then he says When sin hath conceived When sin hath conceived it bringeth forth sin and When sin runs its course it bringeth forth death and then he gives a simple admonition he gives a simple warning in verse number 16 do not he my beloved brethren in other words he says stay on the right course stay on the right course don't don't don't air from the course that you are on you see the concept of lust in the Bible can simply be defined lust can be defined as simply a strong desire or craving often for something that is forbidden and something that is sinful lust is just a strong desire or a craving for something that is forbidden in the word of God something that is sinful so I want us to begin to under to to to um understand and comprehend what lust is what lust looks like lust is that craving that your flesh has for something that is forbidden in God's word something that is sinful now look back at verse number 14 when James says but every man is tempted when he is drawn away when he is drawn away of his own lust my question to you tonight that I really want you to to focus on this evening what are they drawn away from what was James saying when he said do not Heir or do not swerve do not Heir away what is he drawn away from because whatever I'm drawn away from is good whatever I'm drawn away from is not lust whatever I'm drawing away from is keeping me in the right relationship with God let me give you a few examples if Eve had not been drawn away from all the trees that she could freely eat from if she hadn't been drawn away from all the things she could do the trees that she could eat from and if her Focus had not been placed on the one tree that she couldn't she probably would have stood a better chance of withstanding Temptation Samson had Samson not been drawn away from his purpose in life to be the deliverer of Israel if he hadn't been drawn away if he hadn't allowed his life lust to run wild and unchecked with the opposite sex if it hadn't been if Samson would have stayed focused on his purpose and not drawn away by his own lust Samson's story possibly could have be been written in a different way we have this all through the Bible we have the story of aen that when they took over Jericho and God specifically told them that everything in Jericho belongs to God it's a type of first fruits it belongs to God nothing in Jericho now there'll be other battles that you will fight there will be other cities that you will take and you can take of of those cities the spoil the gold and all the things of that nature but he said not in Jericho God gave the victory God brought the walls down Jericho fell and the people of Israel begin to go into Jericho but there was a man called achen that got his mind off of victory was drawn away was drawn away from Victory and began to see silver and gold and clothing and aen took the silver and gold and the clothing hid them in his tent and it later disobeying God later led to aen his wife and his entire family being stoned and left for a monument that you were to obey God what about Judas what about Judas is caring oh my how his story could have been totally different uh it's commonly believed that the apostles each apostle was chosen by God with a certain strength that was to advance the kingdom of God Judah or Judas was from the tribe of Judah Judas had praise with inside him as a matter of fact we do find Judas having a bag the Bible said that Judas had a had a bag and they put the money that was collected in the where Jesus was ministering in the bag that Judas has further research of the bag finds out that was a bag that held a flute that was a bag that held a musical instrument you see Judas was supposed to give praise to God when the woman was healed with the issue of blood Judas was supposed to praise God when blind barus received his eyesight but somehow Judas allowed himself to be drawn away of his own lust and enticed in all that I've mentioned tonight from Eve to Samson to achen to Judas it doesn't it doesn't end well well turn with me to the Book of Numbers Chapter 11 and verse number four what a wonderful thing it was that God provided for Israel on their Journey Through the Wilderness he uh allowed water to come out of a rock they were they their thirst was quenched with water that miraculously came out of a rock why for six days every morning miracle Mana Miracle bread from Heaven fail to the Earth it was it was it's been referred to in the Bible as Angels food it was that that that fed and sustained Israel but look at numbers 11 and verse number four and the mixed multitude that was among them fell austing there's that word and the children of Israel also wept again and said who shall give us flesh to eat who shall give us flesh to eat for we remember the fish which we did eat in Egypt freely the cucumbers and the melons and the leaks and the onions and the garlics I'm going to tell you something let tell you something there is nothing appetizing about what I just read you all right but you see when we allow our lust to take control we can make the things of God look ugly and the things of Egypt look good it's a problem with lusting lusting lusting begins to to mess with your value system all of a sudden they're saying we remember and and they're not even accurate what they did remember a lot of people you you know if if if you ever meet somebody that lived in what some refer to as the good old days oh they'll tell you those were not good old days at all they'll tell you oh you know folks say well oh the good old days in the church they said man we like this air conditioning oh the the good old days no we we we like a lot of and and sometimes lust can be that that very way they start say oh the good old days of Egypt look at this we remember the fish which we did eat in Egypt freely oh you you you you ate it freely well I if you did eat fish I guess you know that's the that's the kindest thing the Egyptians can do to for you because after all you don't get a paycheck you're a slave we did remember the fish we eat freely the Cucumbers the melons the leaks the onions and the garlic but now everybody say but now but now our soul is dried away there is nothing at all but this Mana before our eyes and the Mana was as coriander seed and the color thereof as the color of balum and the people went about and gathered it and grounded in meals and beat it in the in a mortar and baked it in pans and made cakes of it and the taste of it was the taste of fresh oil when the Dew fell upon the camp in the night the Mana fell upon it now this is God's miraculous food how thankful they should have been and I do believe that probably at the beginning they were so glad to eat this bread that came from Heaven this bread that came from Heaven number one was a sign of the existence of their almighty God yes Egypt had the pillar of fire and the pillar of cloud and Egypt had all the judgments that showed the mighty power of God but that daily bread that fell was saying every morning there's a God that's taking care of us every morning there's a God that's watching out for us but over time over time it became common oh friend let's not let our walk with God become common how blessed we are to know the Lord as messed up as our world is right now I am ever so thankful to be a part of the Church of Jesus Christ I'm I'm so glad to be a Bible beli come on I'm so glad to be a Bible believer Holy Ghost fill water baptized looking for the soon coming of Jesus Christ child of the Living God so thankful for that I never want it to grow common I never want it I never want the house of God or the things of God to grow calm and I never want my life to get to where I only think about God on Wednesdays and Sundays I want to have a relationship with God which is not just one time a day talking to him don't you want to have a relationship with God to where you talk to him several times throughout the day and you just bless his name because God God is good but boy didn't they they uh it first fell and they went out and got it but after a while it grew common to them in verse eight look at verse eight again after a while it grew common and they grounded in meals and they beat it in a mortar and they baked it in pans and and they just trying everything to make it to make it just something new and something you know they're just trying all kinds of things but they crying out for fles give us flesh to eat give us flesh to eat going on down to the 31st chapter or excuse me the 31st verse of chapter 11 God gave them God gave them what they wanted God gave them and it's a lesson for you and I God gave them what they craved for God gave them what they lusted after verse 31 and there went forth a wind from the Lord and brought quails from the sea and let them fall by the camp as it were a Day's Journey on this side and as it was a day Journey on the other side round about the camp and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth now watch this now God said oh you all are wanting quell I'll bring you Quail now think think about this he brought them Quail that when they flew in and and and I guess God went ahead and killed them or whatever they flew in they died and they landed they were about Yi all the way around the 12 tribes of Israel all the way miles around those 12 tribes they was about that high and not only that they were about a Day's Journey I me that high in through if you if you walked a Day's Journey so many miles if you walked a Day's Journey you'd still be in a couple of feet of nothing but Quail he said so so you want Quail do you and so he he he gave them he gave them Quail verse 32 and the people stood up all that day and all that night and all the next day and they ga gaed the quailes he that gathered least gathered 10 homers and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp and while the flesh was yet between their teeth air it was chewed the wrath of God of the Lord was kindled against the people and the Lord smokee the people with a very great plague and he called the name of that place kibroth hot of because there they buried the people that lusted that name of that City what it was called it simply means Graves of lusting or Graves of craving God said you you you don't like the bread you don't like this Mana that I've given you here and you're wanting Quail I'll go ahead in his Wrath he brought it in so many miles and so many feet high and before they could chew it good the wrath of God came and slew them and they became a monument their Tombstone would read the graves of lusting can I tell you that I don't want anything on my Tombstone but Jesus I don't want anything written I don't want I'm talking spiritually now I don't want anything written on my death but the word of God I don't want anything written on my Tombstone but repentance I don't want anything written on my Tombstone but discipleship I don't want anything written on my Tombstone but praise and worship and Thanksgiving to the King of Kings and the Lord of lords I don't want anything written on my Tombstone except I'm thankful that he would say a sinner like me and fill me with the Holy Ghost and put me in the Church of the Living God and let me enjoy my teenage years and let me enjoy my 20s and let me enjoy my 30s and my 40s and my 50s and now praise God my 60s I want you to know God is good God is good God is good God is good I don't want anything else don't give me any quail the blessings of God that fall upon my life God is God is good I don't want your I don't want my grave to read the grave of greed the grave of money can I tell you can I tell you stop chasing the dollar it's one thing it's one thing to want to be prosperous but it's another thing to think that the more you get the happier you're going to get that's a that that's a farce that's not true stop chasing the Dot listen if you want true true Joy chase the Holy Ghost if you want true peace chase after God if you want true contentment in your life get get a hold of him and all you'll want more is just more of him and that'll bring you back Sunday morning saying Lord I'm here again why y'all go to church so much because we can't get enough of him we cannot get enough of praising and worshiping God and we simply want more of him stop chasing the dollar Judas ought to be a prime example to you what will you give me for Jesus so many pieces of silver oh I'll take it it's a deal then when he came to himself he tried to take the money back he tried to take the money back see if you follow the money and you lose your savior you'll one day try to buy him back you'll one day try to buy him back but the Bible says we buy him without the price of money Bible says this byy the truth somebody help me now buy the truth and sell it not don't by buy the truth you don't buy it with money you buy it with obedience you buy it with that satisfaction of their souls that didn't end up good for them well let me let me share with you tonight about lust lust is a heart condition it's a heart where does lust start it starts lust starts in your heart lust hear this now lust does not start on the outside lust starts in the heart did not Jesus say in Matthew 5: 27 look at this what Jesus said about lust Matthew 5: 27 Jesus said you have heard that it was said by them of old times Thou shalt not commit adultery but I say unto you that whosoever lookth on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery already with her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart Jesus said Jesus said that the adultery that is first committed in here is already committed because it's committed here and it's only a matter of time be before it will be committed on the outside so he simply said he said he that lookth upon a woman to lust after her he that lookth upon a woman to lust after her you see and it it should be preached and it is preached but women not dressing properly isn't the issue you either you missed the point or I got you treed one of the two all right I said women not dressing appropriately is not the issue women will continue as time goes on to be less and less and less but that doesn't give us a reason or an EXC excuse to lust because lusting begins in the heart can I tell you with each of us tonight there is a spiritual war that goes on in all of us it is a war Galatians says Galatians 5 and verse 16 Galatians chapter 5 and verse 16 this I say then walk in the spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh for the flesh lusteth against the spirit and the spirit L against the Flesh and these are contrary the one to the other so that you cannot do the things that you would there is a war going on between the spirit Holy Ghost and your flesh and you decide which one is going to win you decide which one is going to be the Conqueror you decide let me tell you this tonight somebody say well I'm praying for victory you need to change your thoughts we the children of God do not pray to get Victory we pray from The High Ground advantage point of Victory our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ won the victory at Calvary at an empty tomb and then he turned around 50 days later and he gave gave it to us in the power of the Holy Ghost so I'm not working to get Victory I'm working from the standpoint of Victory which is going to rule which is going to rule your flesh will never want to pray your flesh will never want to read the Bible your flesh will never go to church and if your flesh wants to go to church your flesh wants to go to church to socialize it's our social thing we come you know and and you come to socialize and please please don't don't sell yourself short with just coming to socialize it it it'd be S you know it it to me it would be sad to miss heaven but wouldn't it be sad to miss Heaven from the from the auditorium wouldn't it be sad wouldn't it be sad on that day when you stand before God and you hear the words I never knew you and you start saying but I was at church I was here that he has to say yeah but you went there to socialize you never worshiped me you never you you you never got alone with me you you never begin to cry out to me you were too concerned you had Pride you were too concerned with what people thought about you were too preconceived you you were too uh preoccupied with texting and you were preoccupied with this or that and and you never got your flesh in subjection and you never begin to worship me oh I don't I don't want to be I don't want to be that place I want the spirit to rule my life and the spirit says I'll praise him I believe it was brother Zack hammon's great-grandfather coined this he said there's two times you ought to praise the Lord when you feel like it and when you don't and that's exactly right there's two times you ought to worship God when you feel like it and when you don't well when when I don't feel like it why would I worship him because he is worthy he is worthy he is worthy and my flesh doesn't want to do it my flesh doesn't want to go to the prayer room My Flesh doesn't want to get up and read my Bible My Flesh doesn't want to doesn't want to come I mean I I mean they there some there's some people and I love you I love you but it's a God's truth there's some some of y'all that go to church here and you can go you can go to amusement parks and stand in line for hours to ride a 45 second ride or you can stand in line at Dollywood uh to hear somebody sing out their nose you can you you you can do all of that but when I ask some of you to walk from your Pew up here to the altar it's like I've asked you to to climb the highest mountain in the smokeing my like oh my good got to go what better thing could you be asked to do but would you come to the alt could could we all gather around the alt could could we all I I'm I'm I'm not going to go I I I I I I I I I can stand back here I can stand back here and worship God and you can but you can't stand back there and obey your pastor now I know I know there's people that have physical thing you're doing good to get in the building and and I and I totally I totally get that but I'm going to tell you something my sister-in-law condemns every one of you if that woman can get down to the altar how much more if if that woman if that woman can come to church so sick she can't even hardly hold her head up how much more there people tonight and if you're watching online I'm talking to you and some of you tonight got a toe AE and you stayed at home this woman is sign of Cancer and she said I I just got to get to church tonight I I got to get I got to get to the house of God tonight your flesh doesn't want to come but who's ruling you you your flesh or the spirit of God turn to your neighbor and say he's preaching to somebody turn to your other neighbor and say it might be you no no no you no no spiritual war going on come on can I get a witness spiritual war going on right anybody know what I'm talking about tonight said there's a spiritual war going on there's a war there's a war going on there's a battle going on there's a battle going on well how do I combat how do how do I do combat in this battle Romans 12 and verse number one Romans chapter 12 verse number one I beseech you therefore listen to Paul begging you you know that's what the word beseech means I beg you I beg you I I I I absolutely beg you I beg you therefore Brethren by the mercies of God I'm begging you in light of the mercies of God now you don't have to start talking about it but just think about it I want you to think about the sins that God has forgiven you of I want you to think about what God has forgiven you of he said ' I beg you in light of the mercies of God that you that you present your bodies a Living Sacrifice you present your bodies a Living Sacrifice holy acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service can I tell you nothing nothing about God nothing about God makes sense without a submitted Spirit if you don't submit your spirit there's a war going on with you and that war meets in here about every time we come it's a war it's a war well I I don't understand why we got to do that I don't understand why do I I don't understand other people get to do the other all I I don't understand can I tell you something I beseech you by the mercies of God that you would present your body well it's my body you would present your body a Living Sacrifice holy acceptable under my friends acceptable under culture acceptable un people who have less truth than we've got acceptable unto who unto God which is our what reasonable service that word reasonable there it simply means it only makes sense tell me one thing God asked us to do that's bad for us physically emotionally mentally socially tell me one thing God asks us to do that will hurt us in any of these Realms quite the opposite anything God asked us to do it'll help us mentally socially physically it'll help us in all the spiritually it'll help us in all area tell me one thing that God asked us to do that could be bad are you hearing me tonight Church which is your reasonable it it just makes sense it's just logical he's a good God why wouldn't we want to serve him he's a good God why wouldn't we want to be all in he is a good god it don't stop there because we have a lot of war going on a lot of people want a Jesus but they don't want to give Jesus their body it's like it's like going down and get getting a mortgage on a house and moving in and not wanting to pay the mortgage payment that don't work at least right now it don't work we want Jesus but we don't want to give him our bodies when the word says that we are not the preachers not the preacher holding you out over hell every two or three Sunday nights but you presenting your body a Living Sacrifice unto God well don't stop there 1 Corinthians chapter 1 Corinthians chapter 6 1 Corinthians chapter 6 and verse 19 look at this what Paul starts off with a with a question with one word what know you not that you're what what help me now that your is the of the which is in you which you have of God can we say the last phrase and we are not what we don't belong to oursel anymore verse 20 for ye are bought with a price therefore glorify God in your body now this is really good for these folks who go around and say it don't matter what's on the outside God just looks on the heart that's right and that's I've heard people say I've heard people say that verse and that's a verse in the Bible that God seeth not as man for man lookth upon the outside but God lookth on the heart that really proves what I'm trying to say all right God can see my heart sinful man cannot see my heart all sinful man can see is the outside that's why we are to glorify God in our body and in our spirit which are Gods um I don't I don't know many of you remember this or not several years ago many years ago I brought a Budweiser beer box that when I stopped at the market the beer guy was there and there was a Budweiser beer box he had emptied it out he had emptied it out and it was laying there and I asked him if I could have it and I brought it to church with me and a lot of people about passed out when I brought on the platform but then some people even verbally said something I said you know I need something to carry my Bible in and boy you could hear people oh don't don't do that don't don't don't do don't don't put that Bible in that box I said wait a minute it don't matter what's on the outside all it matters is what's on the inside right I'm here to tell you something tonight the biggest battle of Holiness is submitting to God and saying God I'm more concerned with what you feel than what I feel go God I want your approval I don't care about man's approval well let's go on tonight let's go on tonight the second um second Samuel 11 verse number one kind of goes back to Sunday morning 2 Samuel 11 and verse number one and it came to pass after the year was expired at the time when kings go forth to battle that David sent joab and his servants with him and all Israel and and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged rabba but David carried still at Jerusalem came to pass in an evening tith that David arose from his bed from off his bed walked upon the roof of the King's house and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself and the woman was very beautiful to look upon David sent and inquired after the woman and one said is not this basiba the daughter of Elam the wife of Uriah the hittite listen to this now the issue wasn't what David said saw the issue was David's heart the issue was not what he saw the issue was on the inside of his heart all right because too many people want to lay blame when they'll never come out of your situation you will never get Victory blaming any anything outside of your heart if you want to change your life change start with your heart let's read several verses Proverbs chapter 4 verse 23 when it when it's up on the screen behind me Proverbs chapter 4 verse 23 and as a congregation I want to feed you I'd like for you to read it together I'd like for you to read it distinctly I'd like for you to read it loud enough that you can hear the word all right keep thine heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of Life he's saying guard your heart don't let just anything in because whatever comes in will multiply and whatever comes in will go out and he says guard that word that that Hebrew word there keep means guard protect your heart with with all diligence at all times guard your heart keep your heart for out of it are the issues whatever you allow to come into the heart will be the life that you will begin to live doesn't this just make sense now why we were preached to decades ago and we're still being preached to watch what you allow as entertainment watch what you listen to his music watch what you allow to come and hear watch what you allowed to come in here it's not some old fogy Pentecostal Pastor or denomination we're trying to keep your heart pure we're trying to keep your heart holy and therefore we're saying you you need you you need to put guards upon your heart you need to put guards upon what you allow your eyes to see and your ears to hear come on am I in an Apostolic church tonight or what am I am am I in an Apostolic church right now come on Psalms Psalms chapter 139 verse 23 Psalms 139 verse 23 we're going to read 23 and 24 congregation I want you to read it again read it distinctly read it loud enough that you can hear yourself you can hear yourself let's go search me oh God know my heart try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any way Wicked way in me and Lead Me in the way Everlasting search my heart and know my heart Jeremiah chapter 17 and verse Jeremiah chapter 17 and verse number nine look at over and over again and I've just I've just picked out a few verses sister Carpenter I could we could stand here for another hour and reverse after verse after verse that that's talking about keep your heart guard your heart don't let things come in don't let wicked things come in don't let wicked things don't don't don't let it I I the other day and I'm going tell you there ought to be an uprising there ought to be an uprising from women about certain rap rock and roll songs that are that are out I had the unpleasant roll the wind up don't want to hear that trash but I had the unpleasant experience of sitting beside a car at a red light and they were booming this stuff and the man started talking about a woman and and and what she was and all all these thing and I'm standing there thinking how in the world and I just looked over I just looked over and there was a man and a woman and they were both just you know and I want to say lady you're crazy listen to that degrading you listen to the words of that I'm here to tell you I'm glad my daughters were not brought up in that I'm glad my granddaughters are not thank you Flannery thank you thank you fall my granddaughters thank you Lord my grandson and you're come on now I'm I'm not only mine but how about your children aren't you thankful they're in a church right now that's lifting up a standard and saying no no we're not going to listen to that no no we're not going to watch that why because it all starts here inside Jeremiah 17:9 let's read it distinctly let's start Jeremiah 17:9 the is this above and desperately who can know it I tell you there's only one that can know it you think you'll know it but your heart will deceive you every time your your heart will deceive you every time but I'll tell you there's one that knows it that's God and if in a good hot Holy Ghost prayer meeting I'm not talking about a 30 second prayer a 90 second prayer a twom minute prayer I'm talking about one of them prayers you get down and you say God I'm not leaving here to I get some things right with you God I I'm not I'm not going to leave here God I want you to search my my heart I want you to know my ways I want you to see if there be any wicked way found I'm going to tell you you start having some prayer meetings like that you'll start making some phone calls to people and saying you know what I was in prayer and something come to my mind I need to ask you to forgive me I need to ask you for a little help here I'm telling you nobody can know the heart it is deceitfully wicked but we have one whose name is Jesus that we can go in a prayer room and we can begin to say God would you search my heart I don't want to be lost God I I I don't God I want I want to be a wit I not only want to make it to Heaven sister Carpenter I want to take everybody that I can I want to be the brightest light I want to be the biggest voice I want to I want to help pluck Souls out of the Lake of Fire I want to be a witness to my family I want to be that light come on will you give him some praise if you want to be that will you give him some praise oh let me go on let me let me let me Rush Mark 12 verse number 22 look closely to this I'll read it for you for time's sake Mark chapter 12 verse 22 one of the scribes came and having heard them reasoning together perceiving that he had answered them well asked Jesus which is the first commandment of all which is the very first commandment Jesus answered him the first of all the Commandments is here o Israel the Lord our God is one but that's only part of of it and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all all all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might and with all thy strength this is the first commandment it's not good enough just to know there's one God the devil knows there's one God it's not good enough to know that Jesus is God we thankful that we have the revelation of who Jesus is but that's not going to change our lives because the devil believes in one God and trembles what's going to change our lives is when we love God with all of our heart with all of our heart don't have room for anything else but Jesus don't have room for anything else but to love him I'm absolutely turned upside down and inside out I love Jesus you might look at me tonight as an old fogy you might look at me tonight and say man I can't wait till the newer generation gets a hold to this church but I'm going to tell you if the newer generation preaches anything less than loving God with all their heart and all their soul and all their mind will lose the power of the almighty God I'm talking about all your heart all your soul all your mind oh oh friend oh don't you know if I do that brother Carpenter I'll lose the life that I'm I'm I want to live you won't lose your life you will find your life you'll find joy that you never dreamed you could find if you can love him with all your heart regret or teacher regret or teacher I don't have time to read let me give you a little homework here I don't have time to read the whole 51st chapter of the book of Psalms 19 verses but it's David's repented prayer it's David's repented prayer after he committed adultery and with basba and murder it's David's repented prayer it's 19 verses and he he he he goes through and repents but in verse number three of Psalms 51 listen to this he says in verse 51 verse3 for I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me oh that means I'm gonna carry my guilt and shame I'm gonna carry the guilt and I'm gonna carry the shame no that's not what that means sister Eve that my my sin David said my sin's always before me oh so I'm always going to be reminded of my guilt and my shame no no no no no that's not what that means it means I'll always be reminded of his mercy and his grace David said every time I think about what I did I'm going to think about a loving God with grace and mercy that reached down and that forgave me and gave me a second chance and a second chance and a second chance I'm here to tell you I'm not going to live with regret I'm going to live on the mercy side of my mistake and it's going to be it's going to be a great lesson to me my sin is ever before me that's right I'm going to ever live given God thanks because David the Bible says that he that committeth adultery should die and he that taketh another man's life shall by man has his have his life taken David would live out the rest of his life knowing I should have died but God has given me mercy and Grace well David did you learn did did you learn anything from it David well I read reckon he did speed the clock up several decades David is an old man David's an old man he don't move quite like he used to but word comes sister Carpenter word comes hey Men of War there's a new Giant in the land there's a new giant there's a battle going on in 2 Samuel 21 and verse1 15 moreover the Philistines had yet War again with Israel David went down and his servants with him and fought against the Philistines and David wax faint and ish B bobn if I said that right I don't know why they don't name them Bobby and sha and which was of the Giants the sons of the giant whose spear whose weight of whose spear weighed 300 shekels of brass in weight being gered with a new sword thought to have slain David and abashi the son of zura secured him and smoked the Philistine and killed him then the men of David swear unto him saying Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle that thou quench not the light of Israel listen to me I believe with all my heart brother mayford this conversation took place David's shuffling his feet he don't pick a come High anymore he's an old man he's shuing his feet he's ging up his sword somebody said David David David stay home we'll go fight the battle for you stay home we'll do the fighting now I just see old David now saying boys nothing doing last time your py stayed home when that was Battle going on I got in a whole heap of trouble why I'd rather die out there on the battlefield than to stay here all along in his house and make another mistake again can I tell you the lesson was learned David said uhuh I'm not going to get back in that situation that I was in when I committed that sin I'd rather die on the battlefield than to die one more I'm G tell you something when you begin to learn a lesson you begin to order your steps a little differently when you begin to learn a lesson you start say oh wait a minute the last time oo the last time I the last time I backslid right before I backslid I went through a horrible season of being critical critical about everything going on at the church critical about this and critical about that and I back but God let me come back in the church I'm GNA tell you I don't care what they do I don't care how many lights flash I don't care how much fog comes out of the ceiling I don't care what happens around here just thank God I'm back home I'm back home in the house of God I'm praising God I'm back home you staying with me tonight I close with this prodical son in Luke 15:13 came and said father give me my inheritance give me what belongs to me the father gave him his inheritance he left and he spent his inheritance on WI wild loose living women wine living loose he comes to himself and in Luke 15:22 he comes to himself he gets back home says father just make me a servant the father said nothing doing but the father said to his servants bring forth the best robe put it on him I got my robe back put a ring on his hand I got my ring back put shoes on my feet well I got my I got my shoes back bring hither the fatted cap and kill it and let us eat and be married for this my son was dead and is alive again he was lost and his found and they began to be married now his older Elder son was in the field and as he came and Drew nigh of the house he heard music and dancing can I tell you there's one thing he didn't get back but he doesn't magnify what he didn't get back because a relationship with God is greater than you what you lost in sin you hear me the devil wants you to focus on what you lost in sin don't focus on what you lost and beat yourself up with self- condemnation get your mind on the Messiah get your mind on the music get your mind on dancing with the father get your mind on worshiping God he are you hearing he gave him his robe back he gave him his ring back he gave him his shoes back but it doesn't say he gave him an inheritance back but he gave him something more than inheritance he gave him worship and the young man said I don't have to have my inheritance I don't have to have a perfect score just let me dance with the father just let me dance in the house of God just let me dance with the presence of God that's what I want that's what I want oh don't you love him tonight
