if you have your Bibles and would um turn with me to the Book of Matthew The Book of Matthew chapter number five and verse number 13 if you love the Lord could you say yes yes I love the Lord I love the Lord Matthew chap 5 and verse 13 Jesus said you're the salt of the earth but if the salt has lost its savior or his savior wherewith shall it be salted it is th forth good for nothing but to be cast out and to be trotten under foot of men you are the light of the world a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid neither men light a candle and put it under a bushel but on a Candlestick and it giveth light unto all that are in the house go to the gospel of Mark chapter number one Mark chapter number one verse number 14 Lord I love you tonight now after that John was put in prison Jesus came into Galilee preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God and saying the time is fulfilled the kingdom of God is at hand repent ye and believe the gospel tonight for a title I'm going to minister on the subject reviewing repentance repentance reviewing reviewing repentance as we Pro the word tonight would you please pray for the Briggs family brother sister Briggs they were on their way this morning sister Briggs was having surgery today and they were on their way to the hospital brother Briggs uh fell passed out we really don't know but hit his head very hard in the garage and uh they've taken him from blunt to the UT they're monitoring him he has got some bleeding on the brain and uh please would you help would you lift up brother sister Briggs tonight in prayer also sister White had surgery today and let's remember let's remember her in prayer if you have a need tonight would you make it known by the lifting of your hand precious lamb of God I come before you tonight and I ask you lord your word is already anointed your word is already Eternal your word is Anointed your word is alive and Lord who I pray for tonight I pray for myself to be able to deliver the word I pray God tonight that you would help me to articulate that you would help me Lord to communicate that Lord you would help me to deposit in the hearts of these sweet people that have gathered Lord a nugget of Truth tonight to help us live for you and help us serve you now father you know the names that I have on my prayer list God names of people that need to be healed and names of people that need to to be delivered and names of people God that just need strength and wisdom and Lord I ask you to touch brother Briggs tonight I ask you to touch sister Briggs and Lord touch sister white Brother Thompson and God the the the names that have come in God uh and the uh the internet Lord I pray over all these names tonight God You Are the Healer you're the only healer you're the only way maker and I give you praise tonight in the name of Jesus Christ I pray amen and amen would you give him a thunder Applause would you give him a good hand clap offering would you give him a thunderous hand clap offering right now hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah oh you may be seated tonight I'm always excited when Jesus shows up so why are you excited when Jesus shows up because something's going to happen when Jesus when he comes when Jesus shows up and I want you to listen to me real closely here for the next few moment moments cuz I want to challenge you we must take full control of Our Lives being a Christian does not mean that we set idly by being a Christian does not mean certainly mean that we set and we are lazy being a Christian does it mean that we just sit and just do plain nothing it is God's will that we take full control of Our Lives it is God's will that we take full control of our lives so that we can surrender full control to God now let me share with you about life and I guess I've really got stirred up I've been listening I've been hearing a phrase in religious circles that is referring to Salvation and they say Gra alone nothing added grace alone that's all it is to be saved and if you dare make any effort if you dare make any effort to work for God or what I refer to as obedience to God I'm sorry no I'm not sorry I'm informative it is not grace alone it is Grace and obedience that brings about our Salvation it's not Grace that's God's part that's God putting his hand out to us if grace alone would save you and I then the entire population is saved and we have wasted our lives and millions of dollars to build churches if grace alone saved you Grace is God putting his hand out but it takes more than God's hand out it takes our hand stand out in obedience to God's word and when these two meet oh what a marvelous wonderful beautiful thing that God brings to pass when these two will meet you see our purpose in life the Bible says we're the salt of the earth but the salt has lost its ability to preserve then what good is it it's good for nothing just to be cast out so that men don't slip on a rainy day he said you are the light of the world but you don't like a candle and put it under a bushel no God has a perfect purpose for our lives and I'm going to take full control of my life so that I can give full obedience to my life to God so that I can see what God will work can you imagine the wonderful marriages that we've got in our church if somebody just said well we got this beautiful marriage because all we did was go down and get a marriage license what' you do after that nothing didn't talk to each other didn't go see each other we just got a just got a marriage license you know as well as I do I'm being factious right now a good marriage is the product of somebody that's done a lot of work work done a lot of work man God gave you all this beautiful building don't we say you know God gave it to us that's true right but how many of you know that we just didn't sit back and do nothing and God gave it we weren't lazy and God gave it's God's will to give us this but it was also God's will for us to turn around and do something in return to bring this to bring this to pass I go down to my next passage of scripture because our purpose is that we're the light of the world we're the salt of the earth we're a candle that's put on a Candlestick that we give light to the entire house John the Baptist has been put in prison Jesus comes preaching good news Jesus comes preaching the gospel and the word gospel simply means good news and it is good news that there has been a message from a god that has extended his hand and wants to save you God doesn't want any of us to be lost God wants to spend eternity with you God doesn't want you to spend eternity without God and I got news for you God doesn't want to spend eternity without you and so God has put his hand out it's called the good news tonight it's called the good news it's the break of all breaks I hear people a lot of times talk about if I could just get a break in life listen to me tonight the Gospel of Jesus Christ the good news of Jesus Christ is the greatest break you'll ever have in life it's the greatest break that you'll ever that you'll ever you'll ever get in life is the gospel good news of Jesus Christ Jesus comes and preaches the gospel Mark 1:5 here it goes he said the time is fulfilled the kingdom of God is at hand the kingdom of God is here the kingdom of God is close the kingdom of God is at hand how about Grace and nothing else he didn't say the kingdom of God is at hand sit back and enjoy the ride he said the kingdom of God is at hand but wait a minute that's God's hand watch our hand back repent repent and believe the gospel the teaching of repentance is the foundation is foundational in both the Old Testament and in the New Testament as it pertains to our walk with God this this message tonight on repentance is very important and I hope you sit on the edge of your Pew and I hope you listen intently because you'll really never develop a relationship with God if you don't understand repentance that's why the title tonight is reviewing repentance you'll never you'll never understand understand you'll never get it if you don't understand what repentance is all about in the Old Testament the Hebrew word for repentance is sh sh UV it simply means to turn or return it of it it it often carries the idea of returning to God and his ways after straying or rebelling against him and the Old Testament brother Nolan it seemed like that was the theme song for the prophets the prophet's theme song to Israel who was Israel God's people what had God's people done they had went a whoring after other gods they had they had broken the law of God and they had went a whoring after other gods but guess what God does he sends prophets to them and they got a major theme and that major theme is repent turn or return back to God in the New Testament the Greek word for repentance means a change and this is where we're at it means a change of mind or a change of heart you see a sinner cannot return to God because he's never been there right so in the Old Testament the word repent meant to turn come back why Israel had a relationship with God but in the New Testament when the word repentance is used in reference to Sinners a sinner cannot return to something he or she has never been to so the word return means to have a change it means to have a change of mind and a change of heart it mean it involves a deep conviction of sin and a desire to turn away from it and follow and to follow God it means that you change your mind about your lifestyle you change your mind about Sin before the Glorious light and I get to that in a moment before the Glorious light of the Gospel illuminated your life and brought light to your dark life there were things we all did that we thought was all right but once The Light Came once The Light Came then we begin to see things in the total full picture of what it really is as a matter of fact why is repentance necessary for salvation and let me say this tonight and I don't want to mix my words you cannot be saved without repentance you will not see Jesus you will not spend eternity in heaven you will spend eternity with Lucifer in a lake of fire if you do not repent you will perish is that plain enough would anybody have to leave here tonight and say what's the preacher trying to say I'm trying to tell you if you don't repent you can't be saved how important is repentance you can't be saved except through Jesus Christ there's no other one that you can go through and be saved the only path to Heaven goes through him doesn't go through good works doesn't go through meditation it doesn't go through being morally right the only way to get to heaven is through Jesus Christ and the only way to be saved is to repent is to repent why is repentance necessary essential for salvation the answer as a sinner or may I add a coldhearted saint we are living living in the darkness of ignorance and bondage a sinner in his original state is living in darkness and the Darkness has bondage they're in bondage and they don't even know they're in bondage because they're in darkness they don't even know they're bound because they're in darkness well let me let me read some scriptures to help us see this Romans 1 and 21 brother Hammond Romans 1 and 21 because that when they knew God they glorified him not as God neither were thankful but became vain in their imagination and their foolish heart look at that last word was darkened The Sinner lives in a state a state of Darkness let's read some more Ephesians CH 4 and verse number 17 someone say praise the Lord prise the Lord Ephesians 4 and verse number 17 this I say therefore and testify in the Lord that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind he's saying saying to the church don't behave like the world don't walk like them don't act like them don't be like them in their behavior and then he uses the word vanity and that word vanity there means to no avail to no profit in the vanity of their mind look at Verse 18 having the understanding their understanding process what is it darken darkened being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the they're blind because of the blindness of their heart Acts chapter 26 and verse number 17 and let me let me say this let me tell you where this scpt is being used Paul is witnessing and preaching to a sinner King by the name of agria he's witnessing and preaching to a sinner King and he says verse number 17 delivering thee from the people and from the Gentiles unto whom I now send thee now Paul tells his message he tells his purpose to Agrippa to open their eyes and to turn them from Darkness to light light and from the power of Satan unto God that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are Sanctified by faith that is in me in other words he said God sent me to preach the gospel and when I preach the gospel to the Sinners Verse 18 their eyes are being open and they're going to turn from look at this Darkness to light and from the power of Satan now who where do you think that's at that's in darkness you want to know where the you want to know where Satan works at he works in the dark that's where he's at work at he works in the dark but when we are privileged to hear the gospel when God puts his hand out on a Wednesday night when God puts his hand out in good news on a Wednesday night the enemy shakes because he knows that's the only thing that was illuminate and light up our lives that we can see what's going on around us and we can reach out to him and say Yes Lord From The Power of Darkness to the power of God Colossians or um excuse me um it would be it be 2 Corinthians is what I'd like 2 Corinthians chapter 4 Paul again keep in mind this Darkness and Light and the reason that we need repentance 2 Corinthians 4:1 Paul says therefore seeing we have this ministry as we have received Mercy we faint not but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty not walking in the craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to Every Man's conscience in the sight of God let me explain what Paul's trying to say there the devil has really played a number on some people's minds because they the devil begin to tell people that Paul was preaching for gain that Paul had ulterior motive for preaching that he had a had an ulterior motive behind it Paul addresses that can I tell you tonight my chief motive to be up here this evening is just to Simply Be a facilitator to tell you what God is doing tonight tonight he is sticking his hand out to you and he is saying here's all the grace you need I've got all the strength you need there's not a lock in your life that I can't break there's not a chain in your life that I can't break there's not a situation in your life I can't overcome I can take a life lived in the ugliness of sin and I can turn it around and make you into a beautiful awesome vessel that'll be used for my glory that in the days to come people will remember the before and the after and they will give praise to God that's what I'm here to tell you tonight God is trying to stick his hand out and tell you so Paul wanted to kind of really settle that with the Corinthians he said I I'm here to preach the gospel look at verse number three but if our gospel be hid who's it hid to if our gospel be hid it is hid to them that are lost it's why we need to preach the gospel why the Lost need to hear the gospel verse four in whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not lest the light of the Glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God there's a good one God Scripture if you want to know who Jesus Christ is lest the light of the Glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God should shine unto them for we preach not ourselves but Christ Jesus the Lord ourselves your servants for jesus' sake for God who commanded the light to shine out of Darkness hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ he said you know why we're preaching the world is in darkness if there's ever been a day that we need a Jesus exalting church it's now we've got a world that's in darkness if there's ever been a day that when the ministers come before this pull pit we preach Jesus Christ is because he's the light and people are living in darkness oh can you give him praise right now people are living in darkness of whom the God of this world the God of this world and I don't believe I had need to tell you who he is the god of death the god of deception the god of bondage the god of Sorrow the god of Misery the god of pain the god of addiction the god of death hath blinded them eyes why the the last thing he wants is for you to hear the Glorious message of Jesus Christ the last thing he wants is for us to keep hammering it and hammering it and hammering it the name of Jesus Christ The Glorious Gospel of God he is so mad the adversary is so upset right now he would like for me to be preaching anything tonight other than telling you there is a God of Light that is sticking his hand out in the darkness and somehow the Glorious light because God's light is more powerful than Satan's Darkness let me say it again God's light is more powerful than Satan's Darkness that's why you'll have a lot of people that have come to God and their testimony goes like this somebody invited me to church I had no idea would get baptized I had no idea I'd receive the Holy Ghost I just went to church but all of a sudden the preacher started preaching and I begin to have tears fill my eyes and I begin to feel my heart pumping inside of my chest why there's a God of Light that is more powerful than the god of darkness and the God of Light I don't know who you are tonight but there's somebody in this room that's living in darkness and God is trying to say just put your hand out just put your hand out and I will help you oh I wish we'd give him praise right now if you're a lover of Jesus Christ I wish you'd give him praise right now I want you to follow this now let's go back to verse four come on down in whom the God of this this world that blinded the minds of them which believe not that's the light of the Glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God should shine unto them for we preach not ourselves but Christ Jesus the Lord our servants ourselves your servants for Jesus sake for God who commanded the light to shine out of Darkness Paul begins to refer to Creation he refers to Creation Paul knew about creation the first thing God did the first thing God did on day one of creation the first thing God did was let there be light and there was light isn't it amazing that Paul is talking about the gospel the light and then he goes back and refers and sets his message up on the foundation of creation he says and the God for God who commanded commanded the light to shine out of Darkness there again he demonstrates his power over Darkness he commanded the light to shine out of what shine out of Darkness then he go goes back in verse six he goes back in to shine the light out of darkness and hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ if God becoming a man doesn't tell you how much he cares for us I have no other story to bring there's no other love story if God becoming a man and not just becoming a man think about the man he could have become think about the wealth he could have been born into had he chosen think about the image sister Carpenter that he could have chosen to to be but he came in the form the Bible says somebody help me he came in the form of a servant oh it was befitting it was befitting oh he came so that we could lavish Praise on him no no that that's not that's not why he came he had praise before he left Glory Angelic beings 24/7 well there's no well I say 24/7 it's eternity there is no 24/7 in in eternity in eternity holy holy holy Lord God Almighty holy holy holy the highest praise that God could be given is Holy Holy Holy not once not twice but three times holy holy holy separate None Like You never not beside you not above you not beneath you holy holy holy throughout eternity holy holy holy nowhere in the Bible does it say God is love God is love God is love no in the Bible to say God is mercy God is mercy God is Mercy but the highest praise that can be given to God is for us to say holy holy holy not another one like you holy holy holy not one besides you holy holy holy and I hope I bring some meaning to this that's why we often say king of kings and Lord of lords why wouldn't we want to serve him tonight why wouldn't we want to be enthusiastic about him tonight why wouldn't we want to give him praise and honor and glory and and Thanksgiving I don't know how people come and just say it like this at church I don't know how people just come and go on and look at all that the only thing I can imagine you don't know him like I know him if you'll ever know him like I know him when it comes time for church you can't help to say they're talking about my Jesus they're singing about my Jesus never been a day never been a moment never been a minute that you weren't in I was thrown into the water but I wasn't overcome I you can't you can't help but praise him you can't help but Magnify Him oh I want you to know him like I know him tonight I don't listen you may not be living in darkness but you may not be living in light either you may not be living in darkness some of you living in the shadows you're about half that way and about half this way each time we get the light turned on we get ever bit of the light I don't need a little bit of God working in me and a little bit of the devil working in me I need to get the light turned on in my life I don't need to have any darkness in my life I don't need to have any darkness in my marriage I don't need to have any darkness in my family I need the light to be turned on the light I wish somebody helped me preach tonight Paul uses in Salvation I'm stuck on that verse six for God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness in other words he wants you to connect your salvation with your creation well if that be the case Genesis chapter 1 verse number 1 through three let's let's go to school here for a little bit first verse in the Bible in the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth the Earth was with without form void and darkness was upon the face of the deep spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and God said let there be light and there was light got a little head scratcher here where did the light come from God day one was the light the Sun the S you in cuz if you say yes we got a little trouble connecting the dots here if we say the Sun that we see in our creation the Moon that we see in our creation was created on day one we've got head scratcher cuz he says on day one verse three and could you could you give me the verse four in a moment and God said let there be light and there was light verse four please God saw the light that it was good God divided the light from the darkness and God called the day or God called the light day in the darkness he called night and the evening and the morning were the first day now I want to want to play with I want to not play I want to explain some words and God said let there be light and that Hebrew word for light that Hebrew word for light can mean rays of natural light or it can mean illumination illumination which we would talk talk about Revelation with illumination um the word night Darkness can have the meaning of the absence of light but it can also have the meaning of the presence of evil now when Satan who is the God of this world who is the god of death the god of deception the god of pain when the God of this world Lucifer was cast out of Heaven he wasn't cast out of Heaven to float in some outer space form God created a place for him that was suitable for him suitable you see Satan could not stay in order Satan has no order if you really want to see where he works at he works in disorder Satan doesn't like government he likes he dwells in Anarchy confusion he dwells in Rebellion so God created a place suitable for him we find this place in Genesis 1 and 2 and the Earth was without form what form do you give someone who doesn't want to have a form he doesn't want to stay in order wants to be his own God the Earth was without form and void that means empty empty it's going to be suitable for you because now that you're out of my presence you are empty you have no purpose any longer you were made to bring me Glory you were made to sing my Praises you were made to play instruments and wake up but now you have no purpose you are empty you're void was cast down to this place that God created but then God decides and God's master plan in the place that I created to be suitable for a fallen angel will be the place it will be the canvas of which I will paint the beautiful picture of redemption I will go to work you see if God can work in Satan's backyard he can work in your life and in my life tonight please believe that in Jesus name believe that so now as Satan inhabits this formless empty nothing of a planet in water on day one light appears he's familiar with the light he once dwell in the light but light appears God Appears and the Bible tells us the Bible tells us that God let's let's go back let's go back go back to verse three with me on on the screen here here for a moment God said let there be light and there was light God saw the light that it was good and God what did he do divided the light from the god divided the light from the darkness in other words here's the light and here's the darkness and there's no in between there's no in between here you would either be living in the light or you would be living in the darkness and let me tell you tonight your walk with God has no neutral place you either currently in light going toward more light or you're currently going toward Darkness because if you believe on day one that he created his son you've got a problem because in the 14th verse of the same chapter and God said let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the light from the night and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the Earth and it was so and God made two great lights the greater light to Rule the Day the Lesser light to rule the night and he made the Stars also and God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the Earth Earth and to rule over the day and over the night and to divide and to divide the light from the darkness and God saw that it was good and I believe verse 19 if you would give me verse 19 it would just simply it would simply say in the evening in the morning were the fourth day you can't have God creating the sun two times and he didn't he brought light on day one he brought light no one wonder when John writes his book Matthew writes about the king of the Jews Mark writes about the Son of God Luke writes about the son of man but John writes John writes about God he gets right to it there's no mangers sister Fuller there's no wise men there's no Manger there's no there there's there's no Herod there's none of that in the Book of John John cuts to the chase John says John 1 and one in the beginning was the word sound familiar Genesis 1:1 John 1:1 in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God the same was in the beginning with God all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made we we're talking about creation aren't we all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made verse four in him was life and the life was the light of men and the light shineth in darkness and the Darkness comprehended it not that word comprehend meant to overcome it meant to overwhelm it meant it it meant to overcome to comprehend it it couldn't comprehend it couldn't overcome this and can I tell you as I'm trying to preach faith of Jesus tonight that the light is still greater than the darkness it was greater than the darkness 2,000 years ago and it's still greater than the darkness tonight and the Darkness cannot comprehend it cannot oh if you want to be saved get ready to walk walk on streets of gold if you want to be a lover of Jesus Christ get ready to be blessed abundantly above all that you can think on and or ask because when you get ready to put your hand out in his hand get ready to go up friend get ready to be changed friend when you start believing God's going to change my life God's going to make a new man out of me I know I may not look like it right now but God has got a creation work going on the inside of me God is God God God could when you start confessing it with your mouth I love you Jesus I praise you God when you start coming to church and you start openly worshiping God you just get ready the chains are going to fall off one Link at a time things are going to turn around one Link at a time the day is going to begin to Dawn it's going to get brighter and brighter and brighter and brighter and brighter oh I wish somebody would help me Magnify Him tonight repentance Hallelujah the light shineth in darkness but Darkness comprehended it not there was a man sent from God whose name was John the same came for a witness to Bear witness of the light that all men through him might believe he was not that light but was sent to Bear witness of that light that was the True Light which lith every man that cometh into the world he was in the world and the world was made by him and the world knew it not how could the world not know its creator they're living in darkness they didn't know their creator because they're living in darkness he came into his own that's the Jewish people and they received him not but listen to the good news but as many as receed received him as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God even to them that believe on his name which were born not of blood nor the will of the flesh nor the will of man but of God you know what John's message was repent repent that's what John was known for he was known for repenting and that repenting was change your views change the way you see things that the answer is not in the Sheep the answer is not in the temple sheep the answer is not in the temple Lambs the answer is in Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin I hope I'm preaching some faith into you tonight that's what John was known for repent change your views listen I'm going to tell you something this world will not satisfy you the things of this world won't satisfy you the music of this world won't satisfy you the entertainment of this world won't satisfy you but oh give me Jesus Give Me Jesus John Give Me Jesus what was John known for repent John was a repentance preacher his message his main message was repent his main message was repent want you to follow me closely we're going to go to John I'm sorry I didn't give you these verses John chapter 3 verse number one just just stay with me tonight there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus a ruler of the Jews the same came to Jesus by night sayth to him Rabbi we know that thou are a teacher come from God for no man can do these Miracles that thou doest except God be with him Jesus answered and said unto him verily verily I say unto thee except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God Nicodemus sath unto him how can a man be born when he's old can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born Jesus answered verily verily I say unto thee except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God that which is born to the flesh is flesh and that which is born to the spirit is Spirit Marvel not that I said unto the you must be born again the wind bloweth where it listeth thou hearest the sound thereof but c not tell whence it cometh and whether it goeth so is everyone that is born to the spirit Nicodemus answered and said unto him how can these things be Jesus answered and said unto him art thou a master of Israel and knowest not these things verily verily I say unto thee we speak that we do know and testify that we have seen and you receive not our witness if I've told you Earthly things and you believe not how shall you believe if I tell you of heavenly things no man have ascended up to heaven but he that came down from heaven even the son of man which is in heaven he said if I told you about water and spirit and you didn't understand how are you going to understand this when ain't no man ascended up to heaven but he that came down from heaven even the son of man that's in heaven what was he saying in that one verse I'm not present I was there I came down here and I'm still here but I'm still up there I can see Nicodemus just say yeah yeah yeah yeah he's talking about being on my present he said in verse number 13 then verse 14 as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness even so must the son of man be lifted up that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have ever should have eternal life for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life for God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him might be saved he didn't come to condemn the world he came to stick his hand out listen to him Verse 18 listen to Jesus he that believeth on him is not condemned because he hath believed but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God don't tell me it's not important about his name and this look at verse 19 please and this is the condemnation that light extended hand is com into the world and Men love Darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil everyone that doeth evil hateth the light neither cometh to the light lest his deeds should be reproved but he that doeth truth cometh to the light that his deeds may be
