Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
A difference between Egypt and Goshen
- There has always been a difference between Edom and Israel, and in Exodus 8 and 21 God established in their deliverance how there would be a difference.
- Moses speaks to Pharaoh in Exodus 8:21: if you will not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies upon you, upon your servants, upon your people and into your houses, and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.
- In verse 22 God says he will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which his people dwell, so that no swarms of flies shall be there — to the end that Pharaoh may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.
- The flies carry diseases from dead carcasses and spread them through the land of Egypt, but there would be no flies down in Goshen where his people live: God loves his people and has given them a place to dwell.
- God's love was there before Jacob and Esau were born, but a person must respond to God's love — just because God is a God of love does not mean anyone automatically becomes the beneficiary of it; there are requirements and responsibilities to follow.
Scriptures: Exodus 8:21-22
Blessed is the man: influence, advice, position
- Psalms chapter one, verse number 1 says: Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
- The counsel of the ungodly is influence: something is influencing you today — the flesh is either influencing you or the Spirit is influencing you — which is why we are careful about who our children run with.
- Standing in the way of sinners is advice: a person who is influenced by the ungodly starts taking the advice of the ungodly, and something sounding good does not mean it is good — you can never separate the content from the container.
- When someone tells you things that will alter your life, look at the life of the person telling you: look at their children, ask whether the advice has helped their own children, and whether they have even been taking their own advice.
- Sitting in the seat of the scornful is position: no one says 'this is my position' until they have first said 'this is my advice', and no one says that until they have first been influenced — influence, advice, position; people have taken positions against the word of God because they took the wrong advice from the wrong influence.
Scriptures: Psalm 1; Psalm 1:1
Like a tree planted by the rivers of water
- But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law does he meditate day and night — the Hebrew word for meditate is the same root word we get the word medicine from: he takes the word as a medicine, day and night.
- He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he does shall prosper.
- We have it backwards — wanting prosperity first and then getting planted in the right place; it does not work like that: you have got to be a tree purposely planted by God beside the water of the Holy Ghost, to be your nourishment, so you can bring forth your fruit in its season.
- Let the climate change, let the seasons change, let drought come — I am not living by the atmosphere; I have roots down in the ground that are giving me nourishment.
- The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away; therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous, for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Scriptures: Psalm 1:2-3; Psalm 1:4-6
Trust in man or trust in the Lord; the best, not just the good
- Jeremiah chapter 17, verse 5: Thus saith the Lord, Cursed be the man that trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord — for he shall be like the heath in the desert, a prickly little scrub bush with no leaves that gets only enough nourishment to survive.
- The heath shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited — the life of 'almost got the raise, almost had the big break'; if your life is lived in almosts, it is time to change borders and come into a land where it is happening.
- He testifies that he has been living for God over thirty-five years of his fifty-three-year life, and God has never done him anything but good — saved his soul, healed his body, touched his children, made a way when there seemed to be no way; his only regret is that he did not get the Holy Ghost when he was seven.
- Verse 7: Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is — for he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green, and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
- The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins — the word 'reins' there in the Hebrew is kidneys; God knows what the heart is doing and what thoughts it is pumping.
- We are trading what is best today for what is good: this church feeds the poor, gives alms, turns lights on and keeps lights on for members and community, but does not blow a trumpet about it — when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing.
- It is good to clothe and feed the poor, but it is better to preach the gospel to them — the poor you always have with you, and the poor have the gospel preached to them; the best thing he can do for the poor of Blount County is to keep a vibrant apostolic Jesus name church alive.

there's always been a difference between edom and israel and in exodus 8 and 21 in their deliverance god established how that there would be a difference exodus 8 21 listen to god this is speaking moses speaking to pharaoh he says in exodus 8 21 else if thou will not let my people go behold i will send swarms of flies upon thee and upon thy servants and upon thy people and into thine houses and the houses of the egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies and also the ground whereon they are verse 22 egypt's going to be full of flies houses full of flies all people just the land is gonna swarm with with flies but then god says listen to this god i will sever in that day the land of goshen in which my people dwell that no swarms of fly shall be there to the end that thou mayest know that i am the lord in the midst of the earth god said let me tell you something god said egypt's going to be full of flies they carry diseases they go from dead carcasses and all and they carry and they lay their eggs and they care they they spread diseases it's going to be all through the land of egypt but god said i want to show my people that i am their god so therefore there'll be no flies down in goshen where my people live there'll be no flies i don't know about you today but god loves me and has given me a place to dwell and i'm going to live in the church of the living god this morning god does love me the book of psalms now in that god's love was there before jacob and esau was born one must respond to god's love one must respond to god's love just because god is a god of love doesn't mean i can become the beneficiary of that love there's requirements and responsibilities that you and i must follow psalms chapter one verse number 1 says blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful i want you to see three things here blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly the counsel of the ungodly and i'm going to tell you the counsel of the ungodly is influence say that word with me today do you know something is influencing you today the flesh is either influencing you or the spirit is influencing you see it always starts with influence so that's why we're very careful about our children who they run with because we don't want them to have bad because it all starts out with influence you see blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly that could read blessed is the man that walketh not in the influence of the ungodly that's why you need to be careful who is influencing you nor standeth in the way of sinners that right there is called advice you see if you start being influenced by the ungodly guess what the next thing you start listening to and start taking you start taking the advice of the ungodly you start listening to them and you know anytime something sounds good doesn't mean it is good as a matter of fact you never can separate the content from the container so a container can be telling you something that sounds good but you need to check the container out you need to judge no thing before the time when someone's telling you things that's going to alter your life you need to look at the life of the person who's telling you this and you need to begin to ask yourself them ques i know they're telling me something i want to hear but do i like what it is produced in their life oh lord jesus let that sink in lord god of heaven let that sink in may we not just take what we hear people say may we listen and may we look at their life and say do i want to be like that person and i'll tell you a real eye-opener these people that are giving you all this advice of ch life-changing things look at their children has it helped their children has it changed their children but you know something when people get ready to give you advice you need to look at their life and wonder have they even been taking their own advice or is it just a momentary thing to turn me you see we start we start walking in the counsel of the ungodly we start we we start getting this wrong influence in our lives and then all of a sudden we start taking advice that's not right now watch this watch this now please watch it because anytime you're under the wrong influence the bible says blessed is the man that walketh and that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly that's the wrong advice that's the wrong influence nor standeth in the way of sinners that's the wrong advice nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful that's the wrong position people have never said this is my position until they first said this is my advice and they've never said this is my advice until they have first been influenced so it follows that way influence advice position people have taken positions against the word of god because they have gotten the wrong advice from the wrong influence but i don't want to dwell negative today i want to get in the right influence and the right advice because i want to have the right position i want to be positioned the right way now enough of that enough of that now enough of that the bible says blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful but his delight is in the law of the lord in his law doth he meditate day and night that hebrew word meditate there is the same root word we get the word medicine from and he says he takes he takes the word as a medicine day and night he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season his leaf also shall not wither and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper we got this backwards we're wanting prosperity and then we'll get planted in the right place and we'll start doing the right thing it doesn't work like that church you've got to get planted beside the water you've got to be a tree purposely planted by god beside the water god will purposely plant us beside the water of the holy ghost to be our nourishment so that we can bring forth our fruit in its season it never changes let the climate change let the seasons change let drought come let all these unexpected things come but i'm not living by the atmosphere i've got some roots down in the ground that's giving me nourishment praise god oh hallelujah and whatsoever he doeth shall everybody say shall prosper shall prosper the ungodly are not so but they are like the chaff which the wind bloweth away therefore the ungodly shall not stand in judgment nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous for the lord knoweth the way of the righteous but the way of the ungodly shall perish look with me in jeremiah jeremiah chapter 17. jeremiah 17 bears a little bit more of this this tree and um if time will permit me i'm going to tell you about ezekiel's water supply coming out from under the door of the of the temple this morning if time will permit me today but look at i look at jeremiah chapter 17 verse number 5 thus saith the lord cursed be the man that trusteth in man and maketh flesh his arm and whose heart departeth from the lord how strong are you how secure are you for he shall be like the heath in the desert now the heath in the desert is a little old scrub bush doesn't have any leaves on it it's a little old scrub bush that is only living only can get enough nourishment nourishment out of the ground to survive it's a prickly little old bush with no leaves it's a heat and he shall be in the desert and shall not see when good cometh but shall inherit that shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness in assault land and not inhabited man that's not a good neighborhood to live in is it dry doesn't see any good coming kind of live their life like this you know by the law of murphy that the light of the at the end of the tunnel is nothing but the headlamp of an oncoming train i almost got the raise it almost came through for us we almost had the big break can i tell you something if you find your life living in an almost got the break almost had it happen i submit to you it's time to change borders you need to come on over into a land to where it is happening you need to come on over into a land and it's not a land of disappointment i find no fault in living if i could be a testifier for god this morning been living for god over 35 years of my 53 year old life and i want you to know that he's never done me nothing but good the only regret that i've got friend is that i didn't get the holy ghost when i was seven the only regret that i've got i wish that i'd got in this thing way way back because he's been nothing but good to me he has blessed me he's been an on-time god every time he's never let me down he saved my soul he healed my body he's touched my children he's made a way when there seems to be no way i wouldn't trade today for for nothing can somebody say amen this morning i don't live there verse seven blessed is the man that trusteth in the lord whose hope the lord is for he shall be as a tree planted by the waters and that spreadeth out her roots by the river and shall not see when he cometh but her leaf shall be green and shall not be careful in the year of drought neither shall cease from yielding fruit the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked who can know it i the lord search the heart i try the reigns and this word reigns right here i try the reigns this word reigns right here in the hebrew is kidneys god said i know what your heart's doing i know the blood pumping through your heart and symbolically he's talking about thoughts he's talking about your life he said your heart is deceitfully wicked that's why i'm saying today about the wrong advice your heart can actually say well that's a good thing to do that's a good thing and i i really just have a few moments left for my bible class but i i see there that we are trading what is best today for what is good today now we feed the poor we give alms this church this church takes care of poor people this church gives alms to people we have turned lights on we have kept lights on and not only our members but in our community we have fed people we have done all kinds of community work and we'll continue to do it but we don't blow a trumpet and say look what we're doing we're doing this and we're doing that the lord said when you give alms don't let your left hand know what your right one's doing don't sound a trumpet and say we're doing and some churches today are neglecting the preaching of the gospel for saying oh how good it is to go and feed and clothe and you're you're you're right it is good to clothe and feed the poor but it is better jesus said it the poor you always have with you and the poor have the gospel preached to them the best thing that i can do to the poor of blount county is to keep a vibrant apostolic jesus name church alive
