Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The call from the tabernacle

  • He reads the opening of Leviticus: the Lord called Moses and spoke unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation.
  • The joy is found not in the tabernacle's construction but in God's voice being heard from it; there is nothing on earth that will replace the house of God, and the hearer in that house today — wandered from him, seeking him, or knowing him — is in a most blessed place.

Scriptures: Leviticus 1:1

Bring an offering

  • God said that if any man bring an offering unto the Lord, he shall bring it of the cattle, even of the herd and of the flock; God knew that the heart he had touched would want to bring something back to him, because this relationship is not one way.
  • The burnt sacrifice was to be a male without blemish, offered of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord — a type of the response God looks for today.

Scriptures: Leviticus 1:2; Leviticus 1:3

A living sacrifice

  • Romans 12:1 is the New Testament tie of the Leviticus offering: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service — God doesn't want your money or your talent; he wants you, because there is not another you.
  • It only makes sense to serve the Lord: the lifestyle of the world is not good for you mentally, physically, for your family, or for society, but living for God is good for you in every one of those ways; the devil fights the altar because he fears you coming into God's house and tasting how good it is.
  • Verse 2: be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Scriptures: Romans 12:1; Romans 12:2

Of his own voluntary will

  • He returns to verse 3: the offering was brought to the door of the tabernacle, in the open view of everyone — God wants his people beside him and out front, not worshipping only behind a closed door; as a wife wants to be seen in public with her husband, he is proud to be seen with his.
  • No one should have to motivate you to serve God; motivating and encouraging are two different things. He tells how, as a much younger pastor at the old church on McKinley Street, he thought it his responsibility to make everybody worship, staring down the single aisle — until his wife laughed on the drive home and told him his pass down the aisle, with hands going down as he passed, reminded her of the wave at the Tennessee football game; praise has to be voluntarily given.

Scriptures: Leviticus 1:3

The door is Jesus

  • The door of the tabernacle is a type of Jesus Christ, who said, I am the door.
  • Mark 8:34 is read: whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me — lose your identity, pick up his identity, and start carrying him everywhere you go; he calls it a salvation issue.
  • Fifty years from now, the only thing that will matter in the building is that you had a relationship with Jesus Christ — not the job you didn't get, and not the talents that were never recognized.

Scriptures: John 10; Mark 8:34

Leviticus chapter 1 in verse number 1 and the Lord called Moses and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation saying and the Lord called him and the Lord called him out of the tabernacle that it will take me a little while to get back to my title but I promise you I'll get back to my title before I end this Bible class but I want to speak today on this subject Satan only fights what he fears he only fights what he fears the call from the Tabernacle the call from the tavern and the Lord called unto Moses and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation this Tabernacle which is to scale had been God's plan to temporarily bring man back into his presence he is 11 God and He desires that man sinful man be brought back into his presence and so God gave to Moses the plans for the tabernacle the people brought the material the people were obedient and they worked and they built the tabernacle but the joy is found not in the construction but in the very first verse of Leviticus as it says and the Lord called Moses from the tabernacle I'm glad that God's voice can be heard in the church house in the house that is dedicated to the name of Jesus the great benefit of the house of the name of Jesus is that the voice of the Lord is heard from the tabernacle the house of God is a benefit in a day when people are believing that they can find God's method other places there is nothing on earth that will ever replace the house of God replace the house of God verse 1 God called to Moses from the tabernacle God calls us from this place if you're here today and you don't know him you're in a most blessed place if you're here today and you have wondered from him you're in a most blessed place if you're here today and you know him you can rest assured that you are in a most blessed place verse number two speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them if any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord ye shall bring your offering of the cattle even of the herd and of the flock now we understand it in the Old Testament that many of the things of the Old Testament are a type of a spiritual reality in the New Testament in other words the Old Testament is just not a history book but it helps us to know that what we are doing now in the New Testament had a tie in the Old Testament so that voice from the Lord said if any man bring an offering unto the Lord shall bring you the offering of the cattle of the herd of the flock in other words God knew that the response of his love of his desire to touch the heart of man would no doubt result in the response of man wanting to bring something back to God this relationship with God is just not one way it is just not God giving back giving to us and we sitting there and enjoy but without fail when God touches the heart of a person without failed that person will want to bring something back to God something back to God and so he he lists that if any man would bring an offering and he toad of the herd of the flock and in verse number three he said if his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd let him offer a male without blemish he shall offer it of his own voluntary wheel at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord now this this man this person who would be touched by the hand of God that God had brought him out of Egypt God had brought him out of sin God had broken the bondage on his life and that not only had God broken the bondage but God had also given Moses a plan that man could enter into his presence that this man so overwhelmed with God's grace and God's mercy that this man would decide in his heart I want to bring something back to God God said it would be this it would be this type of animal it would be a male which would be without blemish what is this a type of it's there's got to be there's got to be a type turn with me to Romans chapter 12 and verse number one here we find the New Testament tie of the offering found in Leviticus in Romans 12 and verse number one Paul said I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God the word beseech there means I beg in light of the mercies of God because I really believe when you begin to think about giving something to God then what you need to paint the background of is how good god has been to you he said by the mercies of God now I beseech you by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice holy acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service I don't know about you but it only makes sense to serve the Lord the lifestyle of the world the lifestyle of the world is not good for you mentally it is not good for you physically it is not good for your family as a whole and it's not even good for society but living for God is good for you mentally it is good for you physically it is good for your family how many people how many testimonies have you ever heard of some man saying you know I still I got who don't porn and then it put my family back together man I started going to happy hour and I became an alcoholic and it's done wonders for my family I've got hooked on drugs and I have to live to get another fix and it's done wonders for my family you know what I'm talking about today can I tell all of us that it just makes sense to serve God it's good for you to serve God now maybe it didn't take so long for me to get here you know how the devil fights the altar because he fears the old you know why he fights sacrifice and he tries to paint the Church of its being some depriving organization off I start going to church I got to give up this and I got to give up that and I can't go here and I can't do that you know why he wants to do that because he fears you coming into God's house and getting a taste of the goodness of God because the psalmist said o taste and see that the Lord it doesn't take long of staying in God's house until you begin to see just how good that it is verse number 2 of chapter 12 be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God so the type the type in the Old Testament of the bullet coming of the man wanting to bring an offering is really our reality today of our response back to our holy God that you have been so good to me that I am NOT going to bring an animal because that's not what you desire I'm going to bring myself to you because truly that's what God desires you don't want your money he doesn't want your talent he wants you today because there is not another you that has ever lived or that will ever lived live he desires you amen go back to Leviticus now chapter number one verse number three if he is offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd let him offer a male without blemish he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord now where it's at it's at the door it's at the door of the tabernacle notice the spirit that precedes it if he brings it of his own voluntary will in other words if someone is is is having to motivate you to serve God you don't have enough yet if you have to be motivated to live for God you don't have enough yet you need to study your Bible and you need to get the salvation that comes out of the book of Acts you need to be born again until nobody has to motivate you now motivating and encouraging is two different things no one should have to motivate us to live for God oh come on my man that I got this revelation Bishop went as many years ago and I'm so glad I got the revelation but I thought I was responsible to make sure that everybody in this church worship God now this happened over the old church on McKinley Street and it was my responsibility to make sure everyone worship God in that congregation I stared at them if they didn't I gave them hints and probably I'm glad we weren't videoing in those days I probably physically helped people worship God all right my intentions was good but I was a much younger pastor at that time and I would leave sometimes frustrated I believe Church and and maybe even come coming out of losing my own walk with God because I wasn't getting out of that service what I should be getting you know preachers got to live right - preacher has to touch God - and we're not riding home we lived over a defo circle my wife got to giggling in the car I said what's funny she saw nothing I said oh no you're going - oh no I'm not gonna tell you and we went through that little play you know and finally she said well she said tonight when you got we used trying to get everybody to worship God she said you went down the aisle looking at both directions and when I said I mean we just had one aisle okay and said you lookin and said it reminded me of the wave at the Tennessee football game said when you went by everybody and said when you walk by everybody's hands went down she said I got tickled at them and that begun to lead me into this you have to voluntarily give your praise to God yeah yep yeah yeah it has to be it has to be I want to I want to give God praise now now I want to give God praise now I may be battling some sickness this morning but I do want to give God praise I I may be battling some family issues today but I really do want to be in God's house huh I may be having a lot of situations in my life but I really want to be here I really want to be in God's house because big people because he said he said it was to be brought to the door of the tabernacle the door of the tabernacle was out in public the door of the tabernacle was an open view of everyone if I was going to show my love back to God he desired for me to do it publicly what woman and I I know we've got younger ears in this place today but there's not a woman that's got common sense that would put up with a man only wanting to show her affections in private there's not a woman here today that would buy into that kind of relationship that he's only concerned with you behind the closed door a woman if she really is a woman like she needs to be she wants a hand being held walking down through the mom she wants a man right but she wants a man I'm gonna tell you how I like I like my woman out front I don't like my woman behind me now I'm always getting on to her I don't you even walking behind they might have did that back in the eighteen hundred's but we doing that today I want my woman in front of me and I want to right beside because I am proud in public to be seen with her I want everybody to know this is my wife right here and you know what I just can't help believe that God doesn't feel the same way these people that can only worship God and a closed-door or they can only sing out loud in the cavity of their car when nobody was looking and all of that no he's warned you to gather at the door of the tabernacle in front of everybody today and starts it I love you Jesus you are my god I don't want you behind me I want you beside me I want you out front because you are does anybody love Jesus like that in this house today I'll tell you how important it is jesus said I am the door would you turn to mark chapter 8 and verse number 34 very quickly it's it's a Salvation issue we have people talk about well is this a Salvation issue what it is a Salvation issue today it is a Salvation issue today about the door of the tabernacle the door the type the type is Jesus Christ he said in John 10:10 7 I am the door I am the door didn't mark 8:34 listen to this and when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also he said unto them whosoever will come after me let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me three things you got to lose your identity pick up his identity the cross and start carrying him everywhere you go alright you got to lose your identity you got to lose your identity I told my wife just this morning I told her I said you know what if something will not matter fifty years from now it should not matter this morning fifty years from now the only thing that will matter in this building is that you had a relationship with Jesus Christ not that you didn't get the job not that you were never recognized for all your true talents you believe you have but the only thing that will matter please heat this is that you have a relationship lose yourself take up his identity and start carrying them everywhere
