Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The text: signs that follow believers
- The text is read from Mark's close: go into all the world and preach the gospel; he that believes and is baptized shall be saved; and these signs shall follow them that believe — in my name they shall cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues.
- Signs follow the believer; the believer does not follow signs — if the devil is still in your way, go back a verse and be a believer.
- God gives a sign so that we can know: the shepherds were told the sign of the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger, and 'new' tongues means a tongue of a new kind — unprecedented, uncommon, unheard of.
Scriptures: Mark 16:15-17; Luke 2:12
The first tongue: the initial evidence of the Holy Ghost
- Pentecost is read entire: the rushing mighty wind, cloven tongues like fire, and all filled with the Holy Ghost speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gave utterance — and what the hearers heard was the wonderful works of God in their own languages, not a gospel sermon; hearts were not yet pricked, because no sermon had been preached.
- Peter's answer sets the pattern for the church age: this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel — I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; on the day of Pentecost God gave the initial evidence, the sign that a believer has received the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
- Eight years later the pattern repeats at a Gentile house: while Peter preached, the Holy Ghost fell on all who heard, and the believing Jews were astonished because they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God; Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
- Called to account, Peter rehearses it: the angel, the words whereby a house shall be saved, and 'as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them' — God gave them the like gift as he did unto us; what was I that I could withstand God?
- At Ephesus, disciples who had only John's baptism — sincere, but not filled — are rebaptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and when Paul lays his hands on them the Holy Ghost comes on them and they speak with tongues and prophesy; John's baptism had its day, but its coupon ran out at Pentecost.
- Inside that same exposition the preacher delivers Peter's Pentecost prescription as Peter's own words: repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift.
- His own story carries the doctrine home: a sincere seven-year-old who gave his heart to God at a Baptist Vacation Bible School, and a sixteen-year-old baptized in the Holy Ghost who thought his tongue had come loose — sincerity is blessed by God with more truth, but sincerity is not the same as being filled.
Scriptures: Acts 2:1-17; Acts 10:44-48; Acts 11:13; Acts 11:15-17; Acts 19:1-6; Acts 2:38
The second tongue: praying in tongues builds the believer
- Building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost: life drains and depletes, but praying in tongues is God's way of energizing the believer — knocked down, depleted, purposeless, surrounded, pray in the Holy Ghost.
- He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself and speaks not to men but to God — in the spirit he speaks mysteries; what a critic called gibberish was somebody talking mysteries with God.
- Balance governs the practice: I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the understanding also — do not think you are not praying unless you speak in tongues, and do not try to force what God gives freely.
- Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit belongs to the same practice.
- The Spirit helps our infirmities, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: the Spirit himself makes intercession with groanings that cannot be uttered — when you don't even know how to pray, pray in the Holy Ghost and let God speak the mysteries.
Scriptures: Jude 1:20; 1 Corinthians 14:4; 1 Corinthians 14:15; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Corinthians 14:1-2; Romans 8:26
The third tongue: the gift of tongues belongs to the body
- Concerning spiritual gifts, Paul would not have the church ignorant: the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal, and the nine gifts are read out — wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, interpretation.
- The gift is not about its holder: you may hold none of the nine and still be profited by all of them, because the gifts belong to the body — don't be a loner; get in the body and in fellowship.
- God has set some in the church — apostles, prophets, teachers, then miracles, healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues; be careful that it is God who sets you in an office and not pride, for preaching is a calling, not an occupation.
- 'Do all speak with tongues?' — No: that question answers about the gift of tongues and interpretation, not about the initial evidence and not about praying in the Holy Ghost; covet earnestly the best gifts.
Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 12:1; 1 Corinthians 12:7-10; 1 Corinthians 12:27-31
Order in the house — and joy that draws the water
- Paul sets the Corinthian church in order: follow after charity and desire spiritual gifts, but rather prophecy, for he that prophesies edifies the church; tongues in the public service, pushed to the point of disruption, call for interpretation.
- The order section closes hard: if any man thinks himself a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge these writings as the commandments of the Lord; if any man be ignorant after the teaching, let him be ignorant; covet to prophesy, forbid not to speak with tongues, and let all things be done decently and in order.
- A youth-conference story makes it pastoral: a young man speaking in tongues through a preacher's text-reading was kindly seated by a brother who valued the word — there is nothing more beautiful than an apostolic church in order, and no greater irritant than one out of order.
- Pentecost comes to joy, not to a pity party: the disciples returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God.
- Isaiah's word gives the altar call its bucket: with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation — God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid.
- The close presses praise out of the mouth: hunger is in the stomach but the mouth satisfies it; God knows what you think, but he wants to hear you — even his little grandson in a high chair knew how to ask; keep pushing like a weightlifter and the praise will come.

I want to go quickly I want to go quickly quickly quickly to the word of the Lord this morning while we're caught in this holy moment. Mark chapter 16 and verse number 15. Oh, praise be to to the God of heaven. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Mark 16 and verse 15. He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world. Preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. He that believeth not shall be damned." And these signs shall follow them that believe in my name. They shall cast out devils. How many's ready to get the devil out of your way? >> He was never meant to be in front of you. He was meant to be behind you. >> >> And these signs shall follow them that believe. In my name shall they cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues. For just a few moments today, I want to teach on this subject. Speaking in tonesues. Speaking in tonesues. Before we're seated, let's go to God in prayer. Please remember to pray for Brother Patrick Campbell, Mother Zander, Brother Zeender, Sister Rhonda Meyers, and also Brother Brad Gomez, his father. They've discovered cancer in his body. And let's pray for his father, uh, Richard Gomez today. Let's always remember, my heart's always remembering. And although people might have filled their pew, they can never take their place. But could we please remember our shutins this morning? Sister Thorp, Brother Burkett, Brother Kirby, and if I have missed any, God remembers them. Could we pray today? Precious God of heaven. As hands are being raised right now that have needs. Lord, I pray for sister Satan's sister, Elder Sister Satin's sister today that's got the heart issues. I pray God that you would heal her heart this morning. Father, I pray for all the names that have been mentioned today. I ask you, God, to move upon those names, God, according to your perfect will. Oh God, help us to realize that this world is so temporal. This world is so temporary. God, that you never made us to live on this earth for eternity. So God, one day we're going to see your face. God, help us, Lord, to have that as our goal, to see your face, Lord. Father, I pray that you would anoint me this morning, that I would minister your word, that I would impart knowledge and understanding about your word, the power of the Holy Ghost. In Jesus name we all pray. Could you give the Lord a hand of praise right now? >> >> You may be seated. The inspiration of this Bible study came from a post that I saw on social media about the post was in reference to a church service very similar to this one where the congregation was praying. You could hear the saints praying. You could hear hallelujah. But you could also hear in the midst you could hear the saints of God praying, speaking in tongues, that heavenly language. Someone remarked on the post that it was nothing but gibberish. It was nothing but nonsense. They wrote a long post of how there was nothing of what they were doing found in the Bible. Gibberish nonsense. Someone else commented that it wasn't the Bible, but if you speak in a heavenly language, there must be an interpreter. That person said, "Well, they are out of order. because there should be an interpreter that should be there. Understanding the times that we live in, knowing that a high percentage, whether you will admit it or not, a high percentage of people gather and communicate information via social media. They gather information and they share information via the internet or via social media. And so listening or reading, should I say those two posts, gibberish nonsense, no were found in the Bible. And then the other post that simply said, well, they are out of order. There should be an interpreter there. As I scrolled down through the post, there was no one that presented the balanced biblical biblical teaching of speaking in tongues, knowing that I have a congregation of young people and middle-aged people and elderly people. I want you this morning never to mistake and not have the true biblical knowledge of what speaking in tonesues is about. To understand speaking in tonesues, there are three types of tongues in the New Testament. There are three types of speaking in a heavenly a heavenly language. Some have asked, "What language will we speak when we get to heaven?" I haven't really thought about it. I'm too concerned with getting there. >> But I do believe it will be one universal language. >> And I do believe it will be a heavenly language. >> Three types of tongues in in the Bible just like H2O. Water can be water. It can take the form of steam or it can take the form of ice but it's the same component of H2O. It is water, it is steam, it is ice. And the first tongue that is mentioned is the initial sign or evidence of being filled with the Holy Ghost. It is an initial sign. It is an evidence. It is something that happens to you that you know that you know that you know that you have received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. >> Aren't you glad that God gave us a sign? >> Aren't you glad God just didn't leave it up to modern opinion? Well, I felt goosebumps. Well, I felt my I felt laded. Well, I I felt this. I thank God for all of that that you felt. But the initial sign, the evidence is that you will speak in a heavenly language was not the chap verse that I read this morning. If you could throw that back on the screen, Mark 16 verse1 17. And this is Jesus speaking. And Jesus says, "These signs, these signs shall follow them that believe." If the devil is not is still in your way, you need to go back up to the next verse, the previous verse, and be a believer. Because the Bible says that signs will follow the believer. The believer doesn't follow signs. >> Signs follow the believer. >> These signs shall follow them that believe. And they shall in my name they shall cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues in my name. The glory of the Lord shone round about the shepherds on that night. And they told the shepherds, the angel told the se she shepherds that unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior which was which is Christ the Lord. Well, the city of David is Bethlehem, and it's a city, and there were may have been several children birthed in the city of Bethlehem that night. Do we go from door to door in Bethlehem and look for a baby that's been born? No. Luke chapter 2, verse number 12. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. So God specifically gave them a sign so that they would know when they got to the manger and they found the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a feeding trough. They knew that that was the one. Aren't you thankful >> God gives us? a sign this new tongues. This new tongues in the Greek, he says, "You shall speak with new tongues." It's new in the Greek. It means, Brother Ericson, of a new kind, unprecedented, uncommon, unheard of. You're going to speak with new tongues. It's unprecedented. It's never happened before. It's uncommon. It's unheard of. And I've got good news to tell you that Jesus said, "These signs shall follow them that believe in my name. They shall speak with new tongues." And that was fulfilled some 50 days later as the scripture reads Acts 2 and1. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, are you with me this morning? And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind. It filled all the house where they were sitting. There appeared unto them clothing tongues like as a fire, and it set upon each of them, and they were all filled, and they were all filled. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost >> and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance or as the spirit gave them the ability as the spirit equipped them as the spirit gave them the utterance. There were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men out of every nation. Now, when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together and were confounded. They were confounded. I'm I'm going to tell you something. If you've not been following Jesus and his word, and you come in the midst of people that have been following Jesus and his word, there will be a sense of being confounded. What's going on? What's going on? There were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together and were confounded, confused, bewildered, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And right here I want to inject that this is where many people inject an error, an error in scripture. They will say that God used God equipped the 120 some will say just the twel apostles but you had Mary the mother of Jesus in that room >> that's what scripture said and they will say that God equipped them to speak in other languages to preach the gospel that he enabled them to preach there's 18 languages there's 18 languages that are mentioned here these 18 different people of 18 different languages. They were bewildered, confused because they heard the Galileans speak in their own tongues. Now, what was what was different about that? Galileans were really a povertystricken people. They were really poor and they were really uneducated. You you remember the word that uh the the about the apostles. It says uh that they took note that they they were ignorant and unlearned men, but they took note that they had been with Jesus. These people looked at these Galileans and said, "Well, they're they're they're Galileans. How are they speaking? How are they speaking in how are they speaking in our tongues?" Here's what they said. And I'll just save us the time of reading the different nationalities or the different groups of people. It it it it concludes with verse number 11. Greeks and Arabians. Acts 2:1. We do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. Now, had they been preaching the gospel, Acts 2:36 would have been in Acts 2:12. Men and brethren, what shall we do? >> Hearts were pricricked. Their hearts were not pricricked up to this point because all they heard these men saying was the wonderful works of God. You say, "Well, what was that?" Well, just pick something. Creation was a wonderful work of God. >> Daniel being saved in the lion's den was a wonderful work of God. Israel coming through the Red Sea and the Red Sea splitting was a wonderful work of God. Just Just pick one. Just pick any of them. But they heard them speaking the wonderful works of God. Verse number 12. And they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, "What meanth this?" I'm going to tell you something. If an apostolic church is not arousing curiosity with the guest, we're not being an apostolic church. >> There ought to be something. There ought to be something. I I hope today when that choir got to singing, seek your face, I hope every visitor, every guest here looked around and said, "What what what what's this all about? This this is not the normal that takes place here. What meanth this?" But then you've always got the scoffers and the mockers. Others mocking mocking what you don't understand. Mocking the greatest thing that's ever come to earth. Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine." But Peter standing up with the 11 lifted up his voice. He's not speaking in tongues anymore. He's not being He's not speaking in a heavenly language anymore. Thank God the Bible said it lifted up what voice? His voice. He lifted up his voice and he said, Peter standing up with the 11, lifted up his voice and said unto them, "Ye men of Judea and all you that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you and hearken to my words. For these are not drunken as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. It shall come to pass in the last days, sayaith God, that I will pour my spirit out upon only the twel apostles and only on one occasion. Well, that's social media will put it out there. That's >> it was only for 12 apostles and it was only for one day of Pentecost. But I wish somebody helped me preach this morning. And it shall come to pass in the last days, sayaeth God, I will pour out of my spirit upon >> off flesh, your sons and daughters shall prophesy. Your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. On the day of Pentecost, God set the pattern. On the day of Pentecost, God gave the initial evidence. God gave the sign. God gave the evidence on the day of Pentecost. And that was when you are filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. There is an evidence. There is an initial sign. It is the first sign. It is you will speak in a language, a heavenly language. You don't know. You were not taught it. You may speak a few syllables or you may go all day long. I It's It's either or. There's no specification in the Bible other than you will speak in a heavenly language. I wonder today in this apostolic church, is there some people as happy as I am that I know that I know that I know that I was baptized in the Holy Ghost? I know that I know that I know I was baptized with the Holy Ghost. I spoke with other tongues. I spoke with other tongues. I know that I that I know that I know when the Holy Ghost hit me. I fell flat on my back. And my mama asked me going home that night, my mama asked me, said, "Kenneth Ray, did you hurt your face, the side of your face when you fell? Did you hurt your jaw? Did you hurt your face?" I said, "No, mama. Why?" She said, "You kept rubbing your face. You kept rubbing the side." I said, "Mama," I said, "I thought that little string on the bottom of my tongue come loose and my tongue felt like a big roll of biscuit dough that had come out of my mouth and it was laying on the side." And I didn't lay there and think, "My tongue has come out of my mouth in front of all these people here." And I was trying to put my tongue back in my mouth. I was trying to thank God my tongue didn't come loose. God baptized me at 16 years old. God baptized me with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Is there anybody as happy as I am today >> that you have been? I didn't ask if you're perfect. I didn't ask if you got a perfect attendance with God. I asked, are you thankful that you've been filled with the Holy Ghost? Don't tell me it only happens on one time with 12 men on one day. It never happened again. >> Cuz 8 years later, I wish everybody repeat that with me. 8 years later, Acts 10:44 took place. Peter went down to the house of Gentiles. And in Acts chap 10 verse number 44, Peter preached the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And while Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. Now the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. They of the circumcision, that's the Jews, which believed were astonished. Their minds were blown. They couldn't believe this. As many as came with Peter. Why were they astonished? Why were their minds blown? Because they had been taught that God only had a covenant with the Jews. >> But when Peter goes down and preaches a universal gospel to all flesh, these Gentiles, they were not of the seed of Abraham, for they and they of the circumcision. Lord, I get excited. and they of the circumcision which believed were astonished as many as came with Peter. Because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then answered Peter, "Can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?" And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then pray they him to ter certain days. Here are these men. Here's Peter. Here's these men. All Peter knows is that he's he's going down obeying the angel. But at Peter preaches to Gentiles to Gentiles. He's a little weary even going under the roof of a gentile. I'm not even supposed to be here. We not I'm not even supposed to come under a Gentile's roof. But he begins to preach the death, burial, and resurrection. And as he does, the Holy Ghost fells on Cornelius and his house. And they received the initial sign, the evidence that they have been filled with the Holy Ghost. And the Jews stood back and they said, "We hear them speak in other tongues." Well, everybody wasn't happy about it. Peter got a call from the general superintendent, James and they called him before the general board and they said, "We've got a report on you. We've got a we've got a brother Eric said, "We've got a letter on you that you went to the Gentiles and you know that's section 1 verse 5 paragraph 3 article two." Oh god. said, "Is it true, Peter, that you went to the Gentiles?" And Peter began to rehearse this matter. Acts 11 verse number 13, he's standing before the conference, the council in Jerusalem, Peter speaking. And he showed us Cornelius how he had seen an angel James in his house which stood and said unto him send to Japan called Simon whose surname is Peter. Who shall tell thee words whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. We're about to take your license Peter. We're about to take we're about to demote you, Peter. And Peter said, "And as I begin to speak, >> the Holy Ghost fell on them." Don't you tell me it just happens one time. Don't you tell me it just happened to 12 men. Don't you believe that on social media as on us at the beginning. Give me the next verse, please. 16. Give me the next verse. Verse number 16. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John, indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Verse 17, uh for as much then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us who believed on Jesus Christ, what was I that I could withstand God? He said, God has poured his spirit out. God has poured his spirit. Well, my denomination don't believe it. It doesn't matter what your denomination believe. God is pouring his spirit out. God is pouring his spirit out and you can have it. The Baptists can have it. The Catholic can have it. Episcopalians can have it. The Presbyterians can have it. The Lutherans can have it. My God. Even the atheists can have it if they'll believe. >> >> I hope you post this. >> Don't tell me the Baptist can't have it. >> I brought up in a Baptist church. >> I gave my heart to God. I did. Seven years old, Black Old Heights Baptist Church at Vacation Bible School. They had a little flanograph board. Most of y'all don't know what that is. Some of you do. And they had a little ark and they had people going in that ark. And they had a storm coming, clouds. I I remember the the preacher putting dark clouds up, people going in. And he said, "If you don't trust Jesus as your savior, he said, "You'll be lost." He shut the door. And he had people out in the water drowning. And I thought at 7 years old, God, I don't want to drown. I cried. I bellowed a little burheaded boy. I cried and I bellowed and I was as sincere I was. I was as sincere. They took me aside room and had me read a little prayer and I gave my heart to God. >> But aren't you thankful that God will bless sincere people >> and send them more truth. >> I said God will bless sincere people and send them more truth. Have I got anybody else in here that was brought up that way that God sent sincere people? Don't tell me that God won't give the Holy Ghost to the Baptist people. I got scripture to show you. Acts chapter 19 verse number one. And it came to pass that while Apollos was at Corenth pass John Paul having passed through the upper coast came to Ephesus and finding certain disciples he said unto them have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believe. >> Now let me stop here and inject something. There's doctrine that is era that says once you believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior you're automatically filled with the Holy Ghost. That's not according to scripture. >> You may be sincere, but you were not filled with the Holy Ghost. I was seven years old. I was sincere. I bellowed and cried, but I was not filled with the Holy Ghost. >> Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? They said unto him, "We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." That's the reason I'm preaching what I'm preaching today. >> There's folks that haven't even heard of it. That's right. >> We've not even heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. He Paul said unto them, "Unto what then were you baptized?" He said, "You've not heard of the Holy Ghost? How were you baptized?" And they said, "Unto John's baptism." He was John the Baptist. Where do you think that come from? It was John the Baptist. These are Baptist people here, >> right? >> Under John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. Let me let me show you something. Any of you all ever got a coupon with an expiration date? It is of value until the expiration date's up. >> But after the expiration date's up, it's of no value. John's baptism had value until the day of Pentecost. >> It had value until the cross. It was the council of God to be baptized by John confessing your sins. But that coupon ran out at Pentecost. >> And a new coupon was issued by God that does not have an expiration date. >> And that is then Peter said unto them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift. He said unto them, "Unto what then were you baptized?" Verse three, "They said unto John's baptism." Then said Paul, John barely baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. No greater prophet than John. Jesus said that there's no greater prophet than John. Those of you that are questioning whether you ought to be rebaptized. You only need to be rebaptized if you were not baptized in Jesus name. >> Well, you don't know what I felt when I got in that creek. You don't know. I I have no doubt that you had an emotion that you felt and that you were sincere. But is it not possible to be sincerely wrong? >> But when they heard this, they were baptized or rebaptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. But that's not all that happened. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied. So the first type of tongue in the New Testament is the initial evidence that you have been filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. And let me rush on. Let's go to the second tongue. The second the second tongue is praying in tonesues. What is the purpose of praying in tonesues? It builds up the believer. Life has a way of draining you and depleting you. But praying in tongues is God's way of energizing you and building you up. Now stay with me now. Stay with me now. Please listen to your pastor today. You say, "Well, brother Corbin, I I spoke in tonesues years ago. I checked the box. I spoke in tonesues years ago and I haven't spoke in tongues since. You know what that's like saying? That's like saying we were we were on our way to Bale and Kobe's uh wedding, either the rehearsal, either the rehearsal or the wedding. And we had chanting in the car. And you know, anytime a baby's in the car, all all especially if you're grandparents, all attention's on that baby. And I'm going to tell you that car erupted when Channing, see we call her Nana. When Channing said, "Nana." Nana. I said, "Did you hear that?" He said, "Papa." I said, "Did you did you hear that?" and answer papa papa p and he said n he'll say papa but wouldn't it be a shame if he's five years old and all he can say is papa nana I'm here to tell you God wants to take that initial sign and God wants to take you into the depth of your prayer and God wants you to begin to pray in the Holy Ghost. There is nothing like praying in the Holy Ghost. The Bible says in Jude, I got to go quickly because I'm racing my clock today. Jude 1 verse number 20, written to a church. But ye beloved, building up yourselves. Building up yourselves. I wish somebody say that with me. >> Building up yourselves. Any of you need any of you need to you feel like you've been knocked flat? Any of you and I I submit to you today maybe not maybe what we're battling isn't a lack of physical energy is a lack of spiritual energy. >> That we cannot tell the difference >> between not having energy physically and not having energy spiritually. >> But God's given us a way of building up yourselves. Oh, I said I'm not making this up. If you you read it, glue your eyes on it. Building but beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith. How? Praying in the Holy Ghost. You've been knocked down, pray in the Holy Ghost. You feel depleted, pray in the Holy Ghost. You feel like you have no purpose, pray in the Holy Ghost. You feel like you're surrounded by the enemy, pray in the Holy Ghost. You feel like you're going into some dark pit, pray in the Holy Ghost. Because when I begin to pray in the Holy Ghost, I may be way down here, but as I begin to pray in the Holy Ghost, something begins to happen to me. When I begin to pray in the Holy Ghost, gibberish need an interpreter. Nonsense. 1 Corinthians 14:4. You tell me if speaking in tongues is important. 1 Corinthians 14:4. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue does what? Edifith himself. But he that prophesieth edifyth the church. And I'm gonna tell you, here's where some confusion comes in with the tongues. Because Paul is trying to set tongues in order. All right? They were out of order. They were out of order in edifying themselves in a church service. Paul's, but here's the point I want to make now, and I'll get to that in just a few minutes. He that speaketh, verse four again, he that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifyth himself. 1 Corinthians 14:15, what is it then? I will pray with the spirit. That's another tongues. And I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit. That's other tongues. And I will and I will sing with the understanding also. That's why sometimes in foreign countries that we go to preach, choirs get up to sing in different languages. I don't understand a word they're saying, but I sure do feel the presence of God. >> And Paul said, "Let's be balanced. I'll get to singing in the spirit, and I'll sing with my understanding also. I'll pray in the spirit. I'll pray in the spirit. Now, let me let me address an error here. Don't think you're not praying unless you're speaking in tonesues. That's good. But you also pray in English. >> That's balance. Don't think I got to go to God if I don't speak in tongues. You see, you're you're trying to press something that God wants to go freely. you you're you're you're getting all frustrated and all uptight and you're trying to push something because you're wanting the sign to tell you something about God. That that's that's not what the sign's there for. It's to edify you. So church, pray in the spirit. That's other tongues. But pray with your understanding also. verse 15 or excuse me, Ephesians chapter 6 verse number 18, Paul says, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the what? >> Spirit." There's praying in the spirit. 1 Corinthians 1 Corinthians chapter 14. 1 Corinthians chapter 14 and verse number one and two. Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God. No man understandeth him, how be it in the spirit, he speaketh mysteries. What that gentleman was saying on social media being gibberish was actually somebody talking mysteries with God. The Bible says in Romans 8 verse number 26, likewise the spirit also helpeth our infirmities. You thankful for that. The spirit helpeth our infirmities. For we know not what we should pray for as we ought. That's why you ought to pray every prayer. I had I had a minister I had a minister gave me a rebuke because I prayed for someone and I said, "God, if it be your will, heal this person." They said, "No, no, you don't need to pray that way. It is God's will to heal everybody." I disagree with that. If God physically heals everybody, who dies? Well, you know, when people get old, no, no, no, no. I don't know about you, but I love people all the way as far as they go. So, it's not God's will to heal everybody. That's why you ought to accept it and pray God's will. God's will be done. You see, we don't know how to pray like we should. And if God doesn't answer my prayer like I want him to answer my prayer, I'm not going to lose faith in God. >> But we know not what we should pray for as we ought. But the spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Let me read you this in a different translation. In the same way the spirit comes to us and helps us in our weaknesses. Weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should. But the spirit himself knows our need at the right time. intercedes on our behalf with sigh and groanings too deep for words. Too deep for words. Man, when I don't even know how to pray, Sister Masa, I can get in the Holy Ghost. I can begin to pray in the Holy Ghost. And when I begin to pray in the Holy Ghost, God is speaking through me about mysteries. God may God may be speaking through me about things that are going to come in in life. God may be God may be speaking through me or speaking through you. Don't lose out on divine help. How many how many want divine help? Second type of tongues is praying in other tongues. Praying in other tongues. praying in that same language, the same way that you receive the first type of tongues, which is the evidence of the baptism of being filled with the Holy Ghost. Would you lift your hands right now and just worship for a moment? I I feel a little shift here in the spirit. I I I feel like I feel like there's a little shift here in the spirit. Would Would you pray right now? Oh, would you pray right now? Jesus, we need your touch right now. God, come on. All over this building. If you have the baptism of the Holy Ghost, would you lift up your hands right now and throw your head back and would you just begin to pray right now? And if you begin to pray in other tongues, that's all right. >> Holy Ghost, have your way. Spirit of God in an age of error, have your way right now. Lord, have your way. Have your way. Have your way. Have your way. Have your way. Pray till you break out of the shell. Pray till you break out of the flesh. The flesh will try to encapsulate you. The flesh will try to imprison you. The flesh the flesh will try to keep you there. The flesh will tell you what? What? What? How does it make any sense to say Jesus Jesus Jesus over and over again? Didn't he hear me the first time? Yes, he heard you the first time. But your flesh wants to keep you broke in. And there's a spirit in there. There's a spirit in there that wants to >> first type of tongues is the initial sign, the evidence. The second type of tongues is praying in tonesues. Here's the third type of tongues. It is the, and you'll hear this very common, it is the gift of tongues. You'll hear people say, "Well, I have the Holy Ghost, but I don't have the gift of tongues." Now, the reason they say that is they have they they have not been taught the biblical u doctrine correctly of tongues. There is the evidence is for everybody. The evidence is for all flesh. >> The evidence of speaking, the evidence of having the gift of the Holy Ghost, he's speaking in another tongue, that's for everybody. Praying in tonesues is for everybody. But the gift of tongues and interpretation is one of the nine gifts that's given to the church. Not everyone, not everybody has a gift of the spirit. Not everybody does. Not all, not not everybody has that. Let's find it. 1 Corinthians chapter 12 verse number one now concerning spiritual gifts brethren I would not have you ignorant all right he says I'm going to talk about the nine gifts and I don't want you to be ignorant about this look at verse seven of the same chapter 1 Corinthians 12:7 but the manifestation the bringing to the surface the making it apparent. But the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit with all. I may not have a gift of the spirit. I may not have one of the nine gifts of the spirit, but I am profited by the nine gifts of the spirit. Because the gifts, I want you to hear this today because we we we there's men and women that's lost their soul over here over this. Hear this. Mark it down. The gift isn't about you. >> We elevate people that have the gift of the spirit. We elevate them. Oh, look at this person's got this and this person's got that. And we lose the fact that the nine gifts of the spirit are for the whole church to profit there with. So, I don't have to have any of the nine gifts of the spirit. I just got to be a part of the cal e ecclesia, the church, and somebody's got a gift of the spirit. And I'm going to be profited by the gift of the spirit. But the manifestation of the spirit is given to every man to profit with all. For to one is given by the by the spirit the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge, to another the same spirit. Now, let me say this, and I I I got to be mindful of our time because I got a time. I want to get you in this altar. Um, I believe that people can operate in the gifts of the spirit and not even know they're operating. >> I believe the gifts of the spirit operate more than just our sanctuary. Amen. >> I believe if you're if you're if you're if you're attached to the body that you can meet another believer somewhere and they don't even know it, but they minister to you the word of wisdom or the word of knowledge. And I'll give you an example. I wrote it down. I've got it. I've got it written down in my mind. I was at the hospital for some reason. Sister Sandra Ammons was at the hospital that day. And as I sat there and I talked to her, I believe I believe Brother Ammons was there with surgery, but I I sat there and I began to talk to her and she said some words and sister Ammons operated in the spirit, the word of wisdom, and the word of knowledge. Now, this probably today's the first time she's ever heard of this. She might be she might be sitting there saying, "I didn't even know that." No, no, she didn't. But when she began to talk to me about a subject, it was like the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge came out in her. I'm going to tell you something. There is a benefit to being a part of the body of Jesus Christ. >> There is a benefit. Don't be a loner. Don't be all by yourself. You need to get in the body. That's why we need to be a church. That's why we need to have friends in the church. That's why we need that. We need to fellowship in the church. Let me go on. For to one is given by the spirit, the word of wisdom. Verse eight. To another the word of knowledge, by the same spirit. To another, faith by the same spirit. To another the gifts of healing. Notice gifts is plural because there's more healing than just physical healing. There's mental healing. There's psychological healing. And to another the gifts plural of healing by the same spirit. To another the working of miracles. To another prophecy. To another discerning of spirits. To another diverse kinds of tongues. To another the interpretation of tongues. These are the nine gifts. Go down to verse number 27 with me. And I'm just doing this for time sake. Verse number 27. Now are now ye are the body of Christ members in particular. God has set some in the church. First apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers. After that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Now I'm going to I'm going to please don't answer this because you you it may be you're incorrect. Are all apostles? No. Everybody is not an apostle. Are all prophets? No. And I'm going to tell you the key verse. Lord, you this is going on my mind. Let go back to verse 28 on the screen real quick. Verse 28. Because don't miss this. I'm gonna speak to somebody today. And God had set some in the church. Be very careful that it is God that sets you in your office and not pride. >> Preaching is not an occupation. It's a calling. >> It's not an occupation. It's not a way to make a living. It's a calling. And brother, if you're not called, may God help you. May God help you. Please don't try to put yourself somewhere that God doesn't want you. He sets. You see that with me? Verse 28. Go to verse 29 again. Are all apostles? I we should say no. No. Are all prophets? >> Are all teachers? >> Are all workers of miracles? >> Have all the gifts of healing? >> Do all speak with tongues? Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. You know what the answer to that is? No. You just blew 40 minutes to me. I thought you said when you get the Holy Ghost, you speak in other tongues as the evidence. I did. I thought you said that you pray in other tongues. I did. But now you're saying, "Do all speak with tongues?" No, because it's not talking about the initial sign and it's not talking about praying in the Holy Ghost. It's talking about having one of the nine spiritual gifts and that is the gift of tongues and interpretation. And everyone doesn't have the gift of tongues and interpretation, but earn but covet earnestly, the best gifts. And yet I will show you a more excellent way. Paul is trying to set order in the church. He's trying to set order in the church. Musicians, would you come right now? Paul is trying to set order in the church. And hear this today. There is nothing any more beautiful than an apostolic church in order. >> Did you hear that? The sound system loud enough. Did you hear it? >> I said there's nothing any there's nothing that's not any more beautiful than an apostolic church that's in order. >> >> But there is no greater irritant. There is no greater irritant than an apostolic church out of order. >> Brother Perry, I appreciate what you did years ago at a youth conference. Spirit of God moved. It was time to hear the word. But a young man in the middle of that crowd, as the preacher was up trying to read his text, as the preacher was trying to preach the word, was a young man in the middle of the congregation just speaking in tonesues, speaking in tones, speaking in tones, speaking in tones, speaking in tongues. Now, if you're not mature today, you're you're you're getting really crossed up right now because you're said, "Oh, nobody ought over. Nobody ought overwe that young man to sit down and be silent. No, nobody ought over done that." You know why you feel that way? You don't value the word. >> Cuz we wouldn't have lives changed if it wasn't for the word. But thank God, Brother Perry, Brother Perry went over in a gentlemanlike way. in a gentlemanlike way. That service would have been horrible. Had that young man just been allowed to stand there and disrupt I mean there were thousands of people there and disrupt the whole service. Thank you, brother Perry. He went over and set the young man in a kind way told the young man to be seated so that the preacher the preacher could could could preach the word because there's nothing any more beautiful than an apostolic church that's in order. And there's nothing any more horrible than a church that's out of order with the gifts and they're out of order with tongues and they're out of order. They're just out of order. There's nothing anymore. And Paul Paul And I'll just go through this real quickly. In 1 Corinthians 14 verse number 1 through5, Paul is trying to set it order. The Corinthian church, they were self-centered. Most of them were self-centered. When they came to church, it was all about them. So, they spoke in tonesues. They prayed in tonesues. They prayed over the offering in tonesues. They sang in tonesues. They just stood up and spo spoke in tonesues. Paul sees a public service. And Paul says in verse one, "Follow charity, follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that you may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God. For no man understandeth him, how be it in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifth himself. But he that prophesyth edifith the church. I would that you all spake with tongues, but rather that you prophesy. For greater is he that prophesyth than he that speaketh in tongues, except you interpret, that the church may receive edifying. So Paul is saying, "Hey, Corinthians, settle down. Get in order. We need some prophesying. We need some preaching going on in this place." and said, "If you're going to speak in tongues, if you're going to do that to the point of disrupting a service, there needs to be an interpreter." And then Paul knew he was speaking to prideful people. And he said in verse 4, 36, he said, "What? Came the word of God out from you or came it only unto you?" He said, "Do you think that you're the source of Bible knowledge or that you have an exclusive right of knowledge?" Verse 37. If any man think himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man, look at this ver verse 38 for a moment. But but if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. In other words, he just simply said after I've taught this, if you want to be ignorant, you're willingly ignorant. But watch what Paul says. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order. Would you stand with me right now? Could we just offer up a praise to God? If you have the baptism of the Holy Ghost, could you offer up a praise to God right now? Come on. If you offer up, would you praise him? Would would you would you praise him loud enough that you can hear your own self praise him? Would you praise him loud enough right now that you could hear yourself praise him right now? Can hear myself praise him right now? Hear myself praise him right now. I can hear myself praise him right now. I can hear myself praising right now. I can hear myself praising right now. I want you to know that we're about to have Pentecost right now. We're about to have an outpouring of Pentecost right now. Are you ready for it, church? We're about to have an outpouring of Pentecost right now in this place. Let me share this with you. Let me share this with you. Only Luke, brother Hammond, only Luke lets us know about it. Luke lets us know about the atmosphere. We just have the 120 disciples in an upper room praying. Maybe we've got them in a monotone voice. Maybe we've got them moaning out. But Luke gives us a little light on the emotional state of the room. It's found in Luke 24:52. As a matter of fact, Luke wrote the book of Acts in Luke 24 verse number 52. and they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Do you know how we're going to have Pentecost? We got to get some great joy out among us. Well, I'm just down. Well, you need to get some great joy in your life. Well, I'm just sick. Well, you need to get some great joy in your life because I got news for you. I don't know what's got you down, but what's got you up is greater than what's got you down. I don't care who you are. You've got a reason to praise God this morning. You're breathing. You're alive. You're here. You've got Come on, praise him. I got a reason to praise him today. I'm not denying I've got problems. I'm just saying that my God is larger than my problems. Great joy. Great joy. Listen to me now. Listen to me. Listen. Let me tell you something. You send God a lot of invitations. You can send God a lot of invitation to your wedding and he'll show up. You can send God an invitation to your birthday party and he'll show up. You'll send God an invitation to when you're going to be in church and he'll show up. But I'll tell you, there's one party he won't show up and that's a pity party. That's a pity party. He ain't going to show up. Pentecost doesn't come to a pity party. It doesn't come to a bunch of people that are down and holding the fort, barely going to make it. Don't understand. No, no, no. Pentecost comes to somebody that in the midst of trial can say, "I count it all joy. I count it all joy." Amen. >> >> Would you put Isaiah 12 verse number one? Isaiah 12 verse number one. And in that day, what day you talking about? The day of Pentecost. And in that day thou shalt say, Oh Lord, I will praise thee. Though thou was angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortest me, behold, God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid, for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song, and is also become my salvation. Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. Therefore, with joy shall you draw water out of the wells of salvation. Yeah. Can I tell you something? Today, your bucket has got to be joy. If you're going to get Pentecost, you got to have joy. I thank you today. I thank you today. I want to invite you to this altar. If you want to have a Pentecost, I invite you to this altar to begin to joy, to begin to praise him, to begin to worship him right now. I love you. I praise you. I magnify you. You've been so good to me. Ain't nobody treat me like Jesus. You've been my healer. You've been my guide. You've been my way maker. You've been my problem solver. You've been my everything. Come on, push it around the altar. >> >> Yes God. Oh yes God. Oh yes. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Glory. Glory. Glory. Glory. Glory. Glory. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Jesus. I love you Lord. I'm praising you. Come on. With joy. with joy draw water. Oh, come on now. Come on now. Praise him. Come on now and praise him. Living in the light of the building. I won't wait another minute. Praise the Lord. Goodbye. Oh yes. I Yes. God is another way. Praise the Lord. Oh yes. Oh, the joy, the joy, the joy, the joy, the joy, the joy, the joy, the joy, the joy. Oh yeah. Goodbye. Yes. Thank you, God. Oh, thank you, God. Thank you, God. Yes, God. Yes, God. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Oh yeah. Thank you. I have decided to follow Jesus the world behind the crossing. Oh yes. Oh yes. >> >> All right, let's get out there this morning. Let's get out there. All right, some of you can't praise God because of your situation. You got your I just can't praise God. I got I got back problem. But how about your arms? You got good arms. >> Maybe we need to get our problem. Maybe we need to get our mind off what's wrong with us and get it on what's my arms pretty good. God, I may not be able to thank you for a good bat, but I can thank you for some good arms this morning. I can praise you some good arms today. B Carpenter, I don't have anything to thank God about. Hey, listen to me. I'm I'm really I'm going to get out there this morning. I'm going to get way out there this morning. You're not in jail, are you? >> Huh? Don't tell me you don't have anything to praise God about. You're not in jail, are you? Don't tell me I don't have anything to pray. You're not in jail, are you? And if by some way, if by some way this this webcast is going into a jail somewhere and you're sitting there saying, "Yeah, but I am." You're alive, aren't you? >> >> You see, the only thing that gets you out of praise is death. Because the Bible says the dead praise not the Lord. Come on. What's right with you? What do you got right? What do you got right this church? You got some things that are right. Come on. Let's praise it right now. Go back into it. >> You got some things right. I'm Dancing on the Dancing on the Dancing on the Dancing on the Dancing on the Ice. Heat. Heat. It make it dancing on the swim. Dancing on the swim. Dancing on the swim. Heat. Heat. Heat. All the pain made it everything that the devil made it. Oh, God made it. You're made it. I'm going to get out there today. I'm going to get I'm going to get out there today. >> In the natural, you get hungry in your stomach, but it takes your mouth to satisfy your stomach. You hear me? You get hungry in your stomach, but it takes your mouth to satisfy your stomach. What in the world you mean? I'm talking about these people that don't believe in praising God. Well, he he knows what I think. I don't have to I don't have to open my mouth. God knows what I think. No wonder you're hungry. That's like going to a restaurant, sat down, and they bring out a big old juicy steak and you're saying, "I think that's good. >> I think that'd be good with some 57 on it. I I think that would be good with some sauteed mushrooms. I think listen, you walk away hungry, but if you'll open your mouth mouth, I love you. I love you. I love you. I This is pretty. Hallelujah. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Got me. Got me. Heat. Heat. Hey, Holy Ghost. >> >> Heat. Heat. I got everything. me. Even an infant. I talked to you about the mouth, brother Lawless. and the stomach. Even an infant knows. Our grandson Channing was in his high chair. Mama Lauren was making him some eggs on the stove and he kept doing this right here. I think some of us need to be a baby in God today. >> Let me say something. You see, well, it it it don't work for me. It it that just don't work for me. That'd be like me going down to the gym and watching a bunch of weightlifters. They just get over there and they take them barbells. I get under them barbells and it's catchy. Catch you catch. But can I tell you something? If you'll keep on trying to push that weight, it won't be long. >> You look around at some of you looking around at some of the people that's got loose today and you say, "Well, that's just that's just them." No, it's not. They've just been doing this. That's right. You'll never be able to do it. If you just go down to the gym January 1st when they run a good deal on a on a membership, it's hard. I don't understand it. You never get it. But I promise you from this Sunday morning, if you'll learn how to keep pushing. I love you, God. I praise you, God. I've got life, God. I've got so much to thank you for, God. Ah, God have mercy. If you'll keep praising him, I said if you keep praising him, you got so much to thank God for this morning. I said you got so much to thank God for.
