if you have your bibles turn with me for a moment to the book of luke chapter number 1 verse number 13. praise god i feel the presence of the lord here this morning feel the wonderful presence of god in this room today rejoicing over kids camp that was just held here this week several of our children receive the holy ghost and i understand we have some to be baptized tonight in the evening service we thank god for all of you that have gathered here this morning to worship the lord we thank god for our local guests that have come and for our out of town guests that have come i would like to make special mention to uh sister shoemake she is the a pastor's wife from california that has family here in this church and sister shoemake it is so good to have you at first apostolic church we have heard so many wonderful good consistent apostolic things from the shoemake family and we're so glad that you would come and worship with us today amen luke chapter 1 verse number 13 but the angel said unto him fear not zacharias for thy prayer is heard and thy wife elizabeth shall bear thee a son and thou shalt call his name john i want to continue what i started last week and that is the comfort of confinement the comfort of confinement sweet jesus today i ask you to anoint the next few moments god i thank you for the good report from brother schnitzer i thank you lord for the spreading of the gospel lord i pray today lord that you would use me and help me today that i would help someone god that is in a state of confinement today they're in a season of confinement i pray today god that you would use me help me god to bless them help me lord for to help them to see that this is your will in jesus name we pray amen and amen you may be seated you will you will remember last week that we brought a couple of scriptures from the old testament where moses had situations to come that he just simply didn't know what to do he simply moses just simply didn't know the steps that he should take and the bible says on these two occasions that they put the situation which happened to be a person they put the situation in a ward or they put the situation in a confinement until the mind of the lord would be revealed they they put it in a confinement until the mind of god could be revealed to them and from that i gather that in life there are situations that we really don't know the next step and we find ourselves god has placed us in a confinement we're we're in a confinement not a lot of uh not a lot of room not a lot of decisions as a matter of fact sometimes we can find ourselves in situations that um not only we we we don't know what to do but it's out of our control we are we're a place in a confinement that is simply out of our control we spent last week about joseph and how joseph spent the majority of his life in a confinement but it was all working together amen for the good to them that love god now again when qualifying these purp these uh scriptures sometimes we just haphazardly say you know the bible says all things work together for the good and we kind of stop right there but it's got to go on to them that love god and are called according to his purpose you see we can all have a purpose today but our purpose doesn't matter all things only work together for the good if you're working on his purpose his purpose and so today i would like for us to look at the life of john the baptist of course he was an answer of prayer of a mother and a father whose womb had been shut up for many years this womb of elizabeth was confined it was shut up finally in god's timing god hears the prayer and god even names the child before he's born god says his name would be john then in luke chapter 3 verses 2 through six is an interesting verse verse two luke chapter three verse two it says annas and caiaphas being the high priest the word of god came unto john the son of zacharias in the wilderness that's it this this open space a wilderness is an open space and it's very important that you kind of make a mental note of that it's a it's an open place the wilderness it's wide and it's open and the bible said that's where john dwelled and it also says the word of the lord came to him now this was decades later decades later after he had had all these things spoken about him at his birth at his birth god had said he'll be a forerunner at his birth god had said he'll turn the hearts of the children back to the fathers and the fathers to the children at his birth he will bring light and at his birth as a lot of things that were said at his birth that would happen decades later but i want you to know today if god has said it and god has promised it just wait on it the word of the lord is going to come the word of the lord is going to come the word came to john in the wilderness and he became a mighty preacher who shook his environment the bible says that multitudes luke 3 verse 7 then said john to the multitude that came forth to be baptized think about that i mean john his ministry his ministry shook multitudes multitudes of people and when they use the word multitudes in the bible it exceeds ten thousand and before that they'll use numbers uh like three thousand and five thousand but when it goes over ten thousand they just stop counting and they just say multitudes came to john now think about that kind of ministry just think about that think about a man who had such a powerful ministry a preaching straightforward convictional preaching repentance preaching he shook that multitudes came multitudes came to be baptized of him and not only that but john was given a sign john was given a sign the word of god came to him to go preach repentance and to preach water baptism to show you had repented but god also gave john god also gave john a sign this sign happened this sign happened to john when john baptized jesus god said to john there's going to be one that you're going to baptize and when you baptize this one you're going to see some you've baptized multitudes there's been thousands of people you've baptized but john john you're going to baptize one and i'm going to give you a sign and when you baptize this certain one you're going to witness the spirit descend upon this one like a dove and when you see that spirit come down on this one like a dove you start preaching and telling everyone that this one right here is going to baptize you with the holy ghost and with fire and it happened as john baptized jesus john witnessed the dove john witnessed this and john began to preach this but something happened in john's life this did not happen many times brother nolan we put these two things together we put jesus baptism together coupled with what jesus with what john said about jesus remember one day john was baptizing and jesus came walking down the seashore and john turned his attention and pointed toward jesus and said behold the lamb of god that taketh away the sin of the world right there right then john paints the picture jesus is more than a miracle worker he's more than just a teacher he's the lamb that's going to take away all the sin of the world or if we could just convince everybody today that our greatest problem is sin our greatest problem is not interpersonal relationships our greatest problems is not money our greatest problem today is sin but praise be to god jesus christ is the lamb that takes away the sin of the whole world from that moment on they were they were well uh acquainted with what lambs were for they were well acquainted it wasn't a congregation that had to have a search for truth uh about the uh symbolic of the lamb they were well acquainted with what a lamb was for a lamb was for sacrifice john said this is the lamb that is slain for the sin of the whole world this is this is this is the lamb now jesus was not baptized then he had already been baptized this was john's introduction to confinement to confinement because it would be later that john would breathe these words in john chapter 3 and verse number 30. he must increase but i must decrease oh friend in a day of getting all we can and canning all we can get in a day of living by the golden rule and the golden rule today is he who has the gold rules in a day of selfishness in a day of just thinking about your comforts and what you need and what you want i want to step out and live in the will of god the greatest thing that could ever happen to us is for us to understand jesus must increase and we must decrease jesus must increase and i must decrease it'd be some time later in mark chapter 6 john lifted up his voice and he spoke about an evil political leader and i'm sorry today he lifted up his voice and he spoke out against an evil political leader we have great fear on our pulpits today we have two great fears on our pulpits today we have fear if we address sin in politics that some people choose their party over their convictions sin is sin it doesn't matter what party it's in sin is sin and we're not only having a lot of fear about it we if we mention something about it from the pulpit but even today we're living in a fear that we can be censored things can happen to us if we lift up our voice but by the help and the grace of god we need to be a john the baptist and lift up our voice herod had violently taken away his brother's wife herodias he had he had violently taken his own brother's wife away from him philip's wife and because of that john lifted up his voice got an earshot of herod and john lifted up his voice and told him the word of god about the situation and because of that john was arrested sounds like confinement because of that john was put in prison sounds like confinement do you remember i made at the beginning of my lesson today i made reference to the wilderness the wide open space he is in the will of god in the wilderness child of god but now you found yourself in the confinement of a prison can i tell you you're still in the will of god because we can increase spiritually while decreasing john was on his way he found himself in a prison he found himself he found himself in a prison he found himself in confinement and eventually eventually and friend we live in a world today that hates righteousness we live we live in a world today that hates absolutes it hates absolutes college professor thinking that he could sway a classroom posed a question to them he said he made a statement he said there are no absolutes there are no absolutes in life he asks he said one of you students named me one absolute a young man stood he said i know of one absolute he said name it he said if males and females do not come together and reproduce eventually the earth will be unpopulated that's an absolute that's an absolute to which the college professor stood dumbfounded and in five minutes of pondering he dismissed the class seems like today that you can believe anything and people will give you the key to the city but stand for an absolute you'll feel the hot breath of hell breathe up on the back of your neck stand for an absolute when the world could ask the church and the church could pray and have a connection with god sometimes the world would rather silence the church than to be blessed by the church i can't understand it herod was wealthy beyond means herod had more wealth than you and i can imagine and on his birthday i don't understand this part either his stepdaughter his stepdaughter came and did a dance for harry and his friends now as you do research as you do study on this basically his step-daughter came out and stripped in front of her stepfather and these drunken politicians she came out and stripped her clothes off now i know that's so far-fetched and he was so drunk that he says to his naked step-daughter ask me whatever you want up to half the kingdom what's the cost of the dance up to whatever you want to ask just ask she runs off and tells her mama said herod just told me i i danced before him and said harry just told me to name my price now think about what she could have had land without measure jewels it could not be weighed kingdoms at her fingertips and the mother because she hated the sight and the sound of john the baptist said you go right back in there and you asked your father to give you the head of john the baptist on a silver charger john herod's backing celebrating when she comes back in and she says father i want the head of john the baptist on a charger confinement i want the head and they went to the prison and they took a man that had a revelation of a dove coming down they took a man that once had multitudes to come and be baptized and they stretched him out they cut his head off and the bible said the disciples came and took the corpse took the headless corpse of john the baptist you see man that that that doesn't that doesn't end very well we see that's where we have to understand about confinement because doesn't even nature itself teach us that there is great value in confinement john wasn't becoming less popular john wasn't becoming less valuable john was getting closer to his heavenly home you see confinement cannot be seen because in confinement we lose a lot of things that we once counted dear but there's nothing any sweeter than making heaven our home there's nothing any sweeter than being in the will of god let me say it again things of great value come from confinement they come from confinement paul uses in first corinthians 11 14 just look at this doth not even nature itself teach you does not even nature teach us the blessedness of confinement i guess i'm trying to teach and preach this today to those of you in confinement can do one thing give praise and honor to god he always got one thing in confinement i can always praise the lord you can always you always got one move in confinement i can always pray i can always worship god and i can always remember that god has been faithful and god is faithful i can release my testimony and confinement i i can tell of the goodness of god in death not even nature oh hallelujah doth not even nature itself teach you everything you eat the things you eat first genesis or genesis 1 verse 11. god said let the earth bring forth why is it got to bring it forth it's been in confinement let the earth bring forth grass the herb building seed the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind whose seed is in itself upon the earth and it was so and the earth brought forth out of confinement the earth brought forth out of confinement grass and herb yielding seed after his kind and the tree yielding fruit whose seed was in itself after his kind and god saw that it was good the apples the peaches the corn the wheat the bread all of that when you eat it you have to understand it was the product of confinement we have our food not only that not only that those little ugly earsome caterpillars that everybody says ooh get that caterpillar oh i don't children oh get that caterpillar away from me oh a creepy crawly caterpillar that we shun away from but brother mcgee let that caterpillar climb up and attach itself and spin a cocoon which sounds like confinement to me and from the confinement of that cocoon a beautiful butterfly will reach out its wings the caterpillar we wanted nothing to do with but the butterfly will chase through the yard to see its beauty upon its wings doth not even nature itself teach you that beauty can come out of a confinement oh i wish i'd preached somebody to their feet this morning i wish i would preach somebody that that's been battling with depression or despair or you've been battling things out of your control you wish they could change that i could have you see that this confinement oh give him praise right now give the god of heaven praise brethren because because something cannot be seen with the naked eye doesn't mean it doesn't exist or isn't still alive as far as we can see it's life but there's a life beyond life that we can't see till we die and you can't wait till you die to believe hell is full of believers that's right they were unbelievers and they died unbelievers but when they opened their eyes in the presence of god they became believers i don't want to wait till i die to become a believer it's too late then proverbs says as a tree or ecclesiastes says as a tree fallout there shall it lay you don't get a second chance i know there's a false religion that tells you that you can die and people can come burn candles and pray you out of that room you can't be prayed out of that room you got to have it right now you've got to believe in it right now you've got to trust in it right now this church is not going to become a self-help church i want to get you ready for the day that you die believe now believe it now poor john poor john poor john lifted up his voice poor john was in prison poor john got his head cut off poor john nothing he got beheaded everybody say beheaded well let me take you to revelation chapter 20 and verse number four and let me show you what happens to people that are beheaded for the name of jesus john chapter 20 and verse number four and i saw thrones and they that set upon them and judgment was given unto them and i saw the souls of them who were beheaded for the witness of jesus for the word of god which had not worshipped the beast neither his image neither received the mark in their forehead or in their hand and they lived and reigned with christ a thousand years you look up here at this preacher this morning don't you poor john me don't you poor john me while i'm taking the headless corpse of john to the cemetery he's over on the other side of glory he's over on the other side of glory in the presence of the king of kings and the lord of lords he's not burning in a devil's hell he's not flouncing in the flames he's on the other side i can't help but tell you today confinement can be a blessing i've lost my job i've lost my mate i've lost my children i've lost i've lost i've lost i've lost i've lost what you need to what you need to concentrate on is not what you've lost but who you are oh let me say that again what you need to concentrate on is not what you've lost but who you are i am who i am because the i am tells me who i am i can lose a whole lot of things as a matter of fact one day we're going to lose everything we've got down here all the clothes in your closet all the cars in your garage all the money you've got in banks all the houses you've taken care of it's all going to be lost oh i don't like that you ought to like it because when you suffer loss and you're either going to spend eternity in heaven or eternity in hell but i am planning because i am a believer i am planning the moment i draw my last breath the moment the last brain wave goes across my brain i'm going to open my eyes in a brand new world i have not seen here had not heard neither have it entered into the heart come on believer today i i want to tell you don't get your mind on what you don't have get it on who you are i am a child of god i've been baptized in jesus name i've received the gift of the holy ghost i know who jesus is you can't hurt me you can only hurt me if i if i focus on what you've taken from me lie on me you can't hurt me slander my reputation you can't hurt me say all kinds of ugly things about me question my motive say all those things you can't hurt me the only way you can hurt me is for me to believe your lie the only way you can hurt me is for me to believe what you're saying about me but i am who i am because the i am tells me who i am i don't get my validation from you i don't get my self-worth from you i don't get my self-worth from a popularity club of everybody liking you friend you go through life like that you're going to be of all men most miserable if you really want to enjoy life get your mind on one being the lord jesus christ get your mind on pleasing him lord did my praise please you this morning god did the way that i praised you pleased you today god the way that i'm living is it pleasing to you god do you like how i'm talking god do you like how i'm walking god do you like how i'm giving god do you like how i'm worshiping you can't hurt me unless i let you hurt me it's the only way you can hurt me is for me to let believe what you're saying but i choose today i choose today to keep focused on something that can never be taken away from me because the world didn't give it to me and the world can't take it away throw paul and silas in a philippian jail beat their backs put them in handcuffs and stocks and i'm not talking about stocks and bonds either i'm talking about real stocks you see what they did to poor paul and silas do you see what they did to him do you not know that they just planted the philippian church the philippian church just got planted there'll be a letter in the bible there'll be an epistle in the bible to the philippians they will be one of the largest missions-giving church in all the epistles the philippians were givers to missions throw them in prison and a church is planted another john not john the baptist but another man named john in the bible they hated him they tried to kill him one time they tried to kill him sister selena tradition says that they took a pot of boiling oil and they said john stop preaching jesus and john said i won't stop preaching him renounce him say that caesar is king king only i will not but jesus christ is king of kings and lord of lords they picked john up and they submersed him in a pot of boiling oil but somehow miraculously the oil did not kill him so the next thing they did church was put him on a barge that that fairy that boat and they took him out to a little mosquito infested island called patmos now but nobody returns from patmos nobody it's a one-way trip only the soldiers go back and forth there on patmos you spend your days taking sledgehammers and crushing rocks so that rome can continue to build its roads take a man in bowling bowl him in oil and take a man in exile him but i'll show you in revelation chapter one verse number nine i john who also am your brother and companion in tribulation and in the kingdom and patience of jesus christ was in the aisle that is called patmos for the word of god and for the testimony of jesus christ i was in the spirit on the lord's day and heard it behind me a great voice as of a trumpet can i tell you you can't do anything to be hurt as long as you're in the church as long as you remember who you are i don't care how wicked people get around you i don't care the losses you get i don't want you to lose the i don't want you to lose your mate but you may lose your mate i don't want you i don't want you to ever go through losing your children some of the heartbreaks of all heartbreaks that i have i receive is from people that say brother carpenter i raised them right but the carpenter i raised them in the truth and they just came and told me they don't believe in this i've i've seen more tears shed over that than than than you can that you can't imagine and i hope that never happens to you but i got to tell you this world cannot hurt you as long as you remember who you are boil me in oil exile me to silence me but i'll give you the last book in your bible called the book of the revelation of jesus christ and we're blessed to know the end of time because a man was willing to suffer confinement there's something we have to beware of in confinement in confinement church the world can begin to look appealing in confinement they actually had people come it's a common thing husband and wife give their lives to god get in the church and a few weeks later trouble hits their family and they've said things like i didn't have this kind of trouble when i was in the world sure you didn't sure you didn't because the god of this world is not going to bother you as long as you're going that direction but start swimming against the stream start swimming against the flow things will start happening but don't give up child of god don't ever dare think the people in the world have got it better oh thank god for the body of christ thank god for a place on sunday morning to come to bring our children our grandchildren our great-grandchildren thank god for a place to come and worship god but even john in john 17 verse number four let let's follow this closely john 17 verse number four john sees this vision and he says excuse me it's john 17 verse number three so he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness and i saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast full of names of blasphemy having seven heads and ten horns the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color decked with gold precious stones pearls having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication and upon her forehead was a name written mystery babylon the great the mother of harlots and the abominations of the earth and i saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints look at that persecution this world religious system that's camouflaged by the god of this world she persecutes the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of jesus and when i saw her i wandered with great admiration and the angel said unto me wherefore this thou marvel and here's the thing about it i don't care how free the religious world looks don't marvel at them don't believe it how how they seem to have it all together and then god showed john this false religion this religious system this this harlot on this beast she had complete power seven horns she had all the completeness and for just a split moment john had her in admiration the angel interrupted him why are you marveling at this why is this something you're looking at she has persecuted this is a pagan persecution this is the the bloodthirsty false religion i i read to you today from a commentary we should never forget that some of the most vicious persecutions conducted against true christians have been done in the name of the church in the days when the roman catholic queen mary ruled england she had the nickname bloody mary some 288 christians were burnt at the stake for their stand for christian truth between 1555 and 1558 the first of these murders was a man named john rogers listen to me just because it's 500 years old look at the tremendous faith these people had when all they had to do is say it's not so bloody mary one of the first martyrs i want you to watch it i want you to listen to this very closely one of the first martyrs was a man named john rogers who as he stood chained to a stake and the fire rose up around him up to his legs and shoulders he rubbed his hands in the flame as if he was washing his hands in cold water then he lifted his hands to heaven and held them up until he was completely consumed with fire but rogers went to the stake with such calm and dignity that the french ambassador who witnessed it wrote that he went to his death as if he was walking to his wedding his courage was so evident that huge crowds burst into applause when they saw him walking head back shoulder square as he walked to the to the beam and was chained there oh god give us this kind of absolute determination to stand for what is right so what if the car breaks down so what if i'm living less than somebody else is so what if i'm single today mighty god of heaven get your mind on what cannot be taken away don't you understand that haven't we comprehended that today if you belong to him your loss will be rewarded in a greater way oh i wish you'd help me praise him right now let me hasten to a close here today musicians would you come let me hasten to a close let me oh i feel the holy ghost let me hasten to a close confinement can be a revelation to us confinement can be a revelation pretty pretty arrogant pretty cocky you're walking with jesus christ he's walking on water doing all miracles kind of arrogant kind of cocky kind of a little bit too competent i'll never leave you i'll never forsake you the rest of these guys may leave little carpenter's gonna stay with you yeah do you know sometimes it takes confinement for us to really find out who we are mark 14 50. let's see if you believe this now peter because we're going to confine your savior we're going to confine jesus mark 14 50 and they all forsook him and fled pretty arrogant brother erickson i'll never believe you we're right with you jesus will you believe that until you see him confined oh i'm going to live for god i'm going to serve god those are just words until sometimes he takes you see some people some people don't really realize how lost they are they play church and i think that there's one challenge if i think there's i think sister carpenter there's one challenge to church growth and when god begins to bless a number is you have people in the congregation they're just playing they think they're saved because they come to church they think they're but they're talk they're taught their their talk reveals they're not really they're not and i'm not saying if that's coming across if i've all if that's coming across wrong it's just it's just the truth all right it's just true we go to the maryville church well whoopee doo that's not going to get you anywhere that day you stand before him i go to brother carpenter's church he may say i know brother carpenter but who are you please please get delivered from i go to the maryville church we'll be you you better be standing there saying i'm a child of god i'm a child of god when that child begins to get destructive behavior and the marriage begins to fall apart i'm sorry standing there saying i go to blue carpeters church ain't getting it but the chumney is not getting it but i tell you when that child begins to self-destruct you can stand there in that bedroom and pray and anoint everything you can in that room in the name of jesus christ god would you would you touch would you touch confine him and the best thing that came out of confinement is peter finally woke up and realized he was warming himself by the wrong fire take jesus and confine him to a post and beat his back take him and confine him and beat his back and peter will write to us in second peter 2 and 24 by whose stripes you're healed do you hear me again it's not what i've got it's who i am beat his back they'll still be anointing with oil and they'll still be praying for the sick confine him to a cross and drain the blood from his body poor jesus poor jesus nothing as the blood drips from his body he just made a transaction he just paid for the sin of the world mary stand weeping behind beside the confines of a tomb but god will take a tomb if you'll take a second look and cause it to be a living room for two angels to sit down and the angels will say he's not here he has risen as he said you understand what i'm preaching today no need to be down no need to throw in the towel child of god this is our hour stand with me today have the confinement of a tomb and to every child of god from earl case boat to danny ray bryant i'll stand there at their grave and say we've come as far down here as we can with our loved one but there's coming a morning of a great resurrection oh friend it all happened because of confinement would you just lift your hands for a moment oh god i believe i believe i believe acts 1 and 9 and when he had spoken these things while they beheld he was taken up and a cloud received him out of their sight while they looked steadfast toward heaven as he went up behold two men stood by them in white apparel which said unto them you men of galilee why stand you gazing into heaven this same jesus which is taken up from you shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven he's gone it was nice to have him for 40 days but he's gone he's gone don't you understand he might be gone but he went he's seated as a mediator that's why a few days later in an upper room in jerusalem you're going to be filled with the holy ghost you've suffered this loss but you're going to be filled with the holy ghost not only that two more passages first corinthians 15 50. oh i hope you get this oh god i hope you get this oh precious god holy difference behold now now this i say brethren that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of god neither doeth corruption inherit incorruption behold i show you a mystery we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed in the moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed for this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must be an immortality so when this corruptable shall have put on incorruption and this mortal shall have put on immortality then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written death is swallowed up in victory o death where is thy sting o grave where is thy victory the sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law but thanks be to god which giveth us the victory through our lord jesus christ therefore my beloved brethren be you steadfast and moveable always abounding in the work of the lord hallelujah hallelujah but i would not have you to be ignorant brethren concerning them which are asleep that you sorrow not even as others which have no hope for if we believe that jesus died and rose again even so them also which sleep in jesus will god bring with him for this we say unto you by the word of the lord that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the lord shall not prevent them which are asleep for the lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout and with the voice of the archangel and with the trump of god and the dead in christ shall rise first earl case vote and the dead in christ shall rise first naomi kesterson and the dead in christ shall rise first danny ray bryant and the dead in christ shall rise first then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together in the clouds to meet the lord in the air so shall we ever be with the lord wherefore comfort one another with these words whoa whoa hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah is jesus got an empty house can i give you another fact there's jesus you know check that out i got a broken heart this morning can i give you another fact there's jesus this song has a little part to it that says in the broken in the broken in the blessing and the blessing there's a blessing in the in the broken can i tell you today the thing hell wants you to do is to doubt your god this morning but i have become a spiritual success if i would drive you to this altar for the next few moments and in the midst of your brokenness you would just begin to give god worship praise and honor as they sing my all-time favorite song at this time every time i try to stand and start to oh yes yes yes yes yes yes into the ground and the life i may have came crashing when the friends i had nowhere to be my friends were nowhere to be there you are i couldn't see your head your head a child of god you're a head child of god your head child of god you may be a guest here this morning join us your hunger
