if you have your bibles and turn with me to the book of it of ezekiel turn with me to the book of ezekiel chapter 36 verse number 22 no service would be complete without the teaching and preaching of god's word we express our worship to him but we gain information about him through the preaching and the teaching of god's word the setting here today is that the people of god israel have strayed far from god they're made a reproach their lives are in bondage but god raises up a prophet by the name of ezekiel and ezekiel begins to sound the trumpet that god is going if they will repent god is going to revive them and restore them and renew them and he's chapter 36 is filled with a a lot of great promises of god in verse number 22 reads like this therefore say unto the house of israel thus saith the lord god i do not this for your sakes o house of israel but for mine holy namesake which you have profaned among the heathen whether you went and i will sanctify my great name which was profaned among the heathen which you have profaned in the midst of them and the heathen shall know that i am the lord saith the lord god when i shall be sanctified in you before their eyes father lord i believe that you allowed my mind and i believe you allowed my eyes to fall upon these passages god i ask you today as i will give all the strength and mentality that i have to show this congregation today the importance of your name god help me today and anoint me today god i ask that you would touch every heart every mind that we would leave here in a few moments knowing how great your name is in jesus wonderful name we all pray amen and amen and you may be seated just for a moment going back to verse 22. i do not this for your sakes but for my holy name sake for my holy name savior exodus chapter 13 and verse number or excuse me exodus chapter 9 and verse number 13. listen to god speak to moses and the lord said unto moses rise up early in the morning and stand before pharaoh and say unto him thus saith the lord god of the hebrews let my people go that they may serve me for i will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart and upon thy servants and upon thy people that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth for now i will stretch out my hand and i will smite thee and thy people with pestilence and thou shalt be cut off from the earth and in very deed for this cause have i raised thee up for to shoe in thee my power and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth so god speaks to israel and he tells them and paints for them through the prophet ezekiel he paints for them such a beautiful future he paints to them that he is a god that will hear their prayers if they'll repent he is a god that will renew and restore and bring back and bless and bless and bless and bless but then god stops for a moment and god says but i want you to know something i'm not doing this because of you i'm doing this because of my name i want my name to be associated with blessing you i want my name when the world looks at you and sees that you are whole body soul and spirit and mind he said i want my my i want my name to be remembered this i do not for you those are his words but for my name pharaoh heard the words that you have been raised to unbelievable world power you have prospered pharaoh and you have prospered egypt like no other nation on the earth but i want you to know something i was behind every pyramid that was built i was behind every new invention that the scientists came up with i was behind you prospering on the world stage and i was behind it so that i could step in to egypt and use a bunch of slaves to demonstrate my power and my great name you see brothers and sisters today the name of the lord becomes a conductor when we understand the bible teaching of the name it's more than just a shallow puddle that we are baptized in the name becomes a conductor brotherly between you and the purpose and the power of god the name of jesus becomes a conductor that gives you your purpose in life there's no purpose without his name there's no purpose if you don't have his name you don't have any purpose but when you have his name you have purpose and just as they saying about not knowing how he's going to work you don't have to because when he when you have his name and his purpose then his power is added to his purpose and to his name can you say amen praise god don't know about you but i want to know god's name today don't know about you but i want to live my life so that his name can be upon everything that i can do because his name gives us our purpose and his name gives us our power you see his name is that conductor in romans chapter 5 excuse me romans chapter 1 and verse number 5. paul said it this way he said in romans 1 and 5 he says by whom we have received grace that strength and apostleship that's purpose for the obedience to the faith among all nations he says we have been given strength and we have been given apostleship we have a message and the reason we have strength and the reason that we have the message is those so that people can be obedient to the faith we have these two ingredients strength and the message so that the the the the faith so that the message of salvation but look at the end of that verse by whom we have received grace and apostle apostleship for the obedience to the faith among all nations what's the last three words of that verse why do i have strength why do i have the apostleship why do we have the faith i'm telling you a message that does not include his name is not a message you've got to have his name just in case today as i am either preaching or teaching or teaching just in case anybody has been tempted to believe that we're making a big deal about the name and we're trying to be divisive about the name and aren't we saying the same things tomato tomato pecan pecan aren't we saying the same thing unless you're saying jesus we're not saying the same thing because it doesn't matter if you're ezekiel or you're maryville he said i just want you to remember i'm not doing this for you but i'm doing this for his name now i am i'm i'm i'm a real believer in the king james version i mainly just read from the kjv but every now and then i'll see a different a different translation and might want to share it with you but the new living translation says it this way through christ god has given us the privilege and the authority as apostles as apostles to tell the gentiles everywhere what god has done for them so that they may believe and obey him bringing glory to his name do you know every person that prays through this morning i speak that by faith every prodigal that's going to come down the aisle this morning at the end of the day he didn't do it for the prodigal but he did it so that his name could be lifted up every person that we're going to take to the baptismal pool and baptize them today we're not doing it necessarily for the individual so it's so the name of jesus can be glorified are you ready for this and i'll give you a little example my brother-in-law brother brad had to go do some work for a pastor of a denominal church here on this street and i just for sake of just for the sake of sake i won't name him nor the church but he got to tell him brad i think maybe he invited brad to his church and brad invited him here and when he found out he went here he said i'm going to tell you something about that church see i don't know a lot about that church but it said every time i passed by that church said them folks are going to church said sunday they got cars there sunday morning sunday night they got cars there sunday night said midweek service they got caught listen is it possible that god could take your automobile sitting in the parking art of this church today and cause somebody to come by and say i don't know about their god i don't know what they preach but it must be something good because then people go to church all the time well you know we're not a cult nobody makes us do this somebody somebody told me one time here in town they said they said your church is a cult i said it is not a cult i said i can prove it's not a cult i said how can you prove it i said by the definition said in a cult the cult obeys the leader so i said sir we're far from being a cult so you know what you're not here this morning because of a dominating dictator of a cult leader you're not here today out of fear that if you're not here the cult leader is going to pray some kind of terrible tumors upon your body you are here today because of the name of jesus today and the very fact that the parking lot is full while other parking lots are empty is causing people to step go by and say there must be something now i want you to sit up real real straight i want you to hear this our behavior as believers can either cause the name of jesus to be a reproach or to be reverenced how we behave as children of god can either cause somebody to glorify the name of jesus or for them to look and say if that's what being a christian is all about i don't want any of that right there well it's a strong verse a strong statement we ought to have some scripture to back it up maybe i should have read scripture first but maybe we need to listen to psalms 23 3 real closely he restoreth my soul he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness so that my marriage does not dissolve he leads me in the paths of righteousness so i don't get addicted to things that destroy my body he leads me in the paths of righteousness so i can pay my tithe and always have enough money to do he leads me in the paths of righteousness so i can be happy no and a thousand times know he leads us in the path of righteousness for his namesake paul would later in second timothy 2 19 paul would later say this and if you if you read verses 18 and 17 he is addressing some men that have risen up in the church and they have introduced they have introduced false doctrine and let me pause i've been wanting to make this statement for some time and i just haven't had it down to make or it just didn't fit in the time that was preaching i fear false teachers far more than i fear false prophets false teachers have done more to damage the faith than false prophets most the time false prophets put themselves in a time bubble they tell you something's going to happen at a particular time and when it doesn't you see right through their false news all right you see right through that but a false teacher a false teacher has no timeline he just teaches things that are false i fear and you need to fear that what you're believing is truth you need to know why you come to this church it's not because your mamaw and papal help build it you need to know that you're in this thing because it's the truth because this bible is true and there's an eternal place called heaven and there's an eternal place called hell and the only way you're going to make it to that eternal place called heaven is to obey the truth so you need to know that this is the truth you need to study it out you need to make sure when pastor gets up and says no other way they were baptized but in the name of jesus you need to go to acts 2 8 10 19. you need to read your bible and study your bible and find out the reason we put people in the baptismal tank in jesus name is not some church creed or some church denomination that's 200 years old but the reason we baptize in jesus name is because that is the only way they were ever baptized in the bible was in the name of jesus it's the only way and let me throw this in for good measure because the lines are getting blurred so much you know you there there was a day that people were proud of their denomination they put it on their sign they gladly put it on their side what they were they wanted to identify themselves by that certain denomination and they put it on their side but we're living in an age that has so blurred any kind of absolute beliefs that people now want to be a little bit of this and a little bit of that in a little smudge of this and a little kiss of that and little hint kind of like kind of like cooking food a little dash of this a little pinch of this and all this stuff and yet listen that may be good for rhonda's potato salad but it's not good for your salvation you don't need a little bit you don't need a little pinch of the third century you don't need a little pitch of the 12th century and a little dash of the 19th century and a little dash of the 20. no no no you need to go back and get the infallible inerrant word of god and you need to say this is what we're going to stand on and this is what we're going to believe i may finish this message tonight this might be a two-parter all right but we're seeing people today oh brother so-and-so baptizes in jesus name for the remission of sins for the remission of sins you see the bible teaches that baptism is not some optional thing you ought to do it's not some optional thing you ought to do after you're baptized you ought to do this because jesus was baptized you ought to do this to make a public display of your faith the problem with that it's not in the bible that's the problem with that and a lot of these places that are now baptizing you in jesus name has nothing to do with your salvation john 3 3 and 3 5 is not connected to why they're baptizing you you see the bible says we are born again of the water and so in that i would like to get excited that so-and-so is baptizing in jesus name i hope whoever has witnessed to him will continue to witness to him and say now it needs to be done for the remission of the sins you need to baptize somebody the bible way for the remission we say well what happened at repentance well at repentance my sins were forgiven well why am i baptized for the remission forgiveness is not remission and remission is not forgiveness it's a process when we repent god forgives us but when we are baptized god washes them away and i enter into what's called justification and it's just as if i had never sinned that's why we're baptized in jesus name in his name in his name second timothy 2 19. nevertheless the foundation he had to address false teachers and then he comes to verse 19. never nevertheless the foundation of god standeth sure having this seal the lord knoweth them that are his and let everyone that nameth the name of christ depart from iniquity he said if you're going to name that name you need to live up to that name if you're going to name that name you need to live up to that name i looked up the greek meaning for the word nameth and the greek meaning for the word name because he said let everyone that nameth the name of christ and the greek meaning for the word nameth is to bear the name of a person or thing he said if you're going to bear that name if you're going to bear that name then he said you need to depart from iniquity well i got good news for you all god needs is your desire to come out of it he will he will provide the power if you've got the will he's got the power but he is not going to bring you out of sin with you clawing at the door handles of sin to stay in if you want to come out you can come out but if you want to claw yourself to the door handles and hold on and hope that eventually you lose your grip and he drags you out he's not into doing that if you want to come out you need to understand the powerful name of jesus and you need to speak that name and talk that name and you need to address your problems in that name you don't need to stand and try to fight your problems alone we are no match for the demonic world in which we are surrounded but give me the name of jesus and god will give us the power of freedom now i want you to i'm bouncing back and forth between the old new testament but i want you to see something in numbers chapter 22 excuse me numbers chapter 6 and verse number 22. i want you to see something with me and the lord spake unto moses saying speaking to aaron and to his sons saying on this wise shall you bless the children of israel saying unto them now i want you to get ready once you get ready for this because god is telling moses to tell aaron to go out to israel which we are in essence a spiritual israel what god did for a natural israel god does for a spiritual israel called the church and so he said i want you to go out aaron and when you come upon god's people i want you to say i want you to say this verse 24 the lord bless thee and keep thee the lord make his face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee the lord lift up his countenance upon thee and give thee peace and they shall put my name upon the children of israel and i will bless them i will bless them you put my name on them and i will bless them again i want to make sure i'm i'm connected you put my name on them happens up there in the pool happens up there when you're baptized you put my name on them and i will bless them that's unconditional when god says i will do something you don't need to you don't need to stand back and wonder if it's going to happen if god ever mentions and i will get ready for it to happen if we have his name on us if we live our lives and understand this is not about me but this is about his name if everything we do the bible said everything you do in word or indeed do all in the name of jesus i just wonder if i begin to live my life and understand that i've got blessings not because i'm so good but maybe i've got blessings for his name's sake maybe i've been blessed not because i'm so smart but i've got blessings because of his name's sake maybe i'm where i'm at today i'm speaking of me but i'm referring to all of you maybe you're where you're at today because not because you've really busted it and made it happen but has it ever dawned on you that you're where you're at today because god just has somebody that he could display his name through i speak to every realtor in this building right now huh man things are happening sales are happening i'm beginning to prosper has it ever dawned on you that it's not because you've got a good marketing agent if not because it you're all that in a bag of chips as the young people used to say i try to say things they say and they'll say dad that then it went out a few years that went out a few years ago you know but used to say kids would say you that's all that and the bag of chips well okay whatever they say now they ever dawned on you that god may have raised you up so that somewhere in a meeting somebody's going to ask what church you go to and where the gospel has never penetrated in families that somewhere in a family that has never heard of one god never heard of water baptism never maybe even heard of speaking in tongues you sat down at a board meeting with them with somebody that's never heard this and they just say by the way where do you go to church and you begin to say apostolic and they say oh by the way what is what is apostolic and the door is wide open then you understand that's why that piece of property became available that's why i found favor with that man that's why this oh my god that's why all of this said he said israel i'm going to bless you but it's not because of you it's because of my name i'll tell you this god can not only use prosperity she's watching this morning but there's a sign of god that goes to this church that hasn't been here in over a year she should have been dead a few years ago as a matter of fact a doctor gave her the death sentence she told me the other day she said i ran into that doctor at the hospital and said when he looked at me it looked like he saw a ghost according to doctors and x-rays on her lungs mary crowder should have been dead a few years ago but why is she still here well she's still here because she's quarantined she's still here because she's not really getting out she uses good hand sanitizer you know what that may help a little bit but you know why i believe she's still here there's not a health worker that goes in her home there's not a doctor that she sets before what she don't call me and say brother carpenter i sit in there we got to talking about church we got to talking about the name of jesus i told them how i was in the mall one day and your choir was down there singing i told them how i got the holy ghost i told him how i got baptized i told him what a wonderful church i showed him how they should get online and watch it i showed him come on church we got to understand something it's not about us but it's about his great name i wish somebody would just praise him right now i wish somebody just praise him right now just love him right now hallelujah hallelujah great god almighty i feel the presence of the lord right now it can not only be prosperity that god wants to open the doors god can use your poor health to open a door isaiah going back just for a second like i said i may i may just have to break this up and preach part two upon you you're going to prosper you're going to be blessed all for his name now i don't know you remain standing with me for just a moment remain standing for just a moment but somewhere later tradition says that when the priest came and pronounced it that the people would raise their hands and declare i receive it i receive it because listen to me now the word of god and the ministry is only half of the job you've got to have a quarterback and a receiver you can have a great quarterback but if you don't have a receiver no touchdowns now it's your time at the end of this when i say it at the end i want you to raise your hands tilt your faces to god and say with a heartfelt sincerity i receive it i receive it listen listen to these words listen to these words the lord blessed me and please understand yeah the other day uh by virtue of being a superintendent there was a reporter from nashville the tennessean called and she wanted to interview me and i gave her an interview and uh about it right at the end of that interview it was just kind of a mundane interview you know your denomination you know where you located where's the churches and then right at the end she said oh by the way what makes you any different than the others and i can hear a little typewriter in the back i said well the first thing i said we believe in only one god we don't believe in three persons she said the trinity i said that's correct i said that came out of the third century she said interesting i said we believe the bible that there's only one god manifest his father's son and holy ghost and in water baptism i said we do it in jesus name for the remission of sins and i said that then i said you add that part to it too for the remission of sins in jesus name for the remission you know what that was my hour i may never talk to that woman ever again in my life and that was my one door that was open and i walked through it sister carpenter's gonna dismiss us in prayer but god kind of spoke to her during this
