Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The fire that shall ever be burning
- He reads Leviticus 6 from verse 8: the law of the burnt offering — the fire on the altar burning all night unto the morning, the priest in his linen garments taking up the ashes the fire has consumed and carrying them out to a clean place, wood laid on the fire every morning, and the fire ever burning upon the altar, never to go out.
- He adds one more verse, from the Song of Solomon, chapter 8 and verse 7: many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it, and if a man offered all the substance of his house for love it would utterly be despised.
- His subject is the law of the burnt offering: everything in the Old Testament tabernacle — the altar, the laver, the table of showbread, the candlestick, the ark — points directly to Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation, and seen from above the furniture stood in the form of a cross.
- The offering lay on the altar all night until the morning, leading from the end of one day into the beginning of another; Jesus Christ is that perfect gift and sacrifice, he was the burnt offering, and the fire of his love is ever burning — it stepped out of eternity into time at Bethlehem.
Scriptures: Leviticus 6:8-13; Song of Solomon 8:7
God so loved the world
- God did not become love at Bethlehem; he has always been love, and he incarnated himself to model its glory — for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.
- People who have been born again divide their lives into BC and AD — what they did before Christ and what they do now — because his love burned through eternity until he burst forth as the rose of Sharon and the bright and morning star.
- The woman caught in the very act of adultery: her accusers could have caught the man as well, but Jesus first wrote on the ground until the judgmental dropped their stones, and then said to her, neither do I condemn you — go and sin no more; God's love is not partial, and it is hard to judge another when you remember where he brought you from.
- Zakius, the crooked and hated tax collector, climbed a sycamore tree only to see Jesus pass, and Jesus called him down by name and went into his house; the thief on the cross at the last minute said, Lord, remember me, and heard, this day you will be with me in paradise; and the prodigal's father, while he was yet a great way off, ran to him, fell on his neck, and ordered the robe, the ring, the shoes, and the fatted calf, because his son that was lost was found.
Scriptures: John 3:16
A priestly garment — for now
- In the burnt offering the priest changed garments — one set of clothes for the ashes and another for carrying them out — and so Jesus is now found in the book of Revelation wearing a priestly garment, walking among the seven churches as intercessor and high priest, walking to give mercy to the ignorant and the rebellious.
- But in the same book of Revelation he will change his garment and come riding back as King of Kings and Lord of Lords and judge of all — so do not wait to settle your case in court; plead guilty now and hear his sentence of grace.
Scriptures: Revelation (book-only, as spoken)
The night trial and the day trial
- Jesus did not sleep the night before his crucifixion: they came for him in the garden with lanterns because it was dark, and through the night at the high priest's house he was interrogated, belittled, and smitten — that was his night trial, the offering burning all night.
- He reads Matthew 26 from verse 57: they led Jesus to the high priest, Peter followed afar off, the council sought false witness against him and found none until two false witnesses came; adjured by the living God to tell whether he was the Christ, he answered, thou hast said, and spoke of the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven; they answered that he was guilty of death, and they spat in his face and struck him.
- The day trial stands in Luke 23 from verse 3: Pilate asks, art thou the king of the Jews, and then tells the chief priests and the people, I find no fault in this man; hearing of Galilee, he sends him to Herod, who had long desired to see him and hoped to see a miracle — but Jesus answered him nothing, because Herod had beheaded the forerunner; if you silence the voice of the minister, you will not hear from Jesus.
- Herod with his men of war set him at naught, mocked him, arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate — and that same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together, for the world has nothing in common except its hatred of the church.
- At the whipping post they would stretch him and rip the clothes off his back with the cat of nine tails, and most men died there of shock and loss of blood — but you cannot kill what prophecy said would hang on a hill, and prophecy says he is coming back after a glorious church, a bride that has washed her robes in the blood of the Lamb.
Scriptures: Matthew 26:57-68; Luke 23:3-12
Name one sin the blood cannot cover
- There is only one sin for which there is no forgiveness — blaspheming the Holy Ghost, the apostasy that looks back and calls the things of God of the devil; the backslider who still knows who God is has not crossed into that state, and putting that sin aside, no one can name one sin that the blood cannot cover — yet the church treats some fallen brothers and sisters as if they had done the unforgivable.
- Amnan raped his sister Tamar, Abselum plotted and had him murdered, and then fled the avenger of blood; David grieved and longed for his son, and Joab sent a woman whose parable won the king's protection for her own guilty son — and she exposed him: he would overrule the blood avenger for a stranger's son and do nothing to bring back his own; so the church weeps for people in Rome, Germany, and Africa and withholds the love of God from the ones in its own pews.
- He calls men and women to the altar one by one, asking each whether they can name a sin the blood cannot cover, presses the appeal on anyone who needs to give their heart back to God, and speaks to someone watching online: wherever you are, fall on your knees and lift your hands — the waters cannot quench his love.
- He releases men and women in the altar to go through the audience laying hands on people: do not stifle your grace, do not let the devil tell you that you are not good enough or that you have not been forgiven — it is time you were living in grace, in mercy, in blood; don't you see the blood I'm covered in? I'm covered in the blood of the Lamb.

Could we just one more time before the reading of the word, lift up holy hands and a shout of victory tonight. Come on. Could you just lift up your hands and worship the Lord right now? Could you just lift up your hands and worship the Lord right now? Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Glory, glory, glory. If you have your Bibles and would join me in the book of Leviticus, chapter 6 and verse number 8. You probably got your Bible in your hand, but would you give this praise team a great big hand tonight? Where'd Andrew go? Andrew, I heard you singing up here. I thought to myself, Josh Wely, who? I heard you singing and I thought, Chad Ericson, who? Come on. Did a young man not do an awesome job tonight. I'm telling you what, we believe in worshiping the Lord. We train them up around here. We train them. You ought to have been at junior competition. You ought to have been school competition this week. I mean, some of the most powerful singing you've ever heard all your life. We just training them. You know, hell wakes up in the morning, Satan rubs his head and says, "Oh, heaven, help me." You know, >> got a headache. All these they just training them up and training them up. Let's spend a little bit in the word tonight. What do you say? How many likes hearing the word read? >> Leviticus 6 and verse number eight. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, "Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt offering." It is the burnt offering because of the burning upon the altar all night unto the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be burning in it. The priest shall put on his linen garment and his linen breaches. Shall he put on upon his flesh, take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar? And he shall put them beside the altar. And he shall put off his garments, and put on other garments, and carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean place. And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it. It shall not be put out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering and order upon it, and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings. The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar. Why don't we all read this together as a prayer? It shall >> Do you want your love for God, too? >> Never. I'm so glad that the Lord saved me. >> If it had not been for Jesus, where >> would I be? I'm so glad that the Lord saved me. Father, tonight, would you anoint my lips of clay? Would you give strength, God, to my voice? And God, would you give me the ability, Lord, to preach your love tonight? Would you give me the ability, God, to dip us deeply in the well of your love this evening, God? Lord, I pray this evening that this message will mean something to someone tonight. I hope it means something to everyone. In Jesus wonderful name we pray. Amen. You may be seated. One more verse of scripture. Song of Solomon. Song of Songs of Solomon. Chapter number eight and verse number seven. Many waters cannot quench love. Neither can the floods drown it. If a man would give all his substance, everything he owned of his house for love, it would utterly be condemned. In other words, whatever finances you could muster up and offer it for love. Whatever it would be despised, you would say that you've insulted me with the offer. Tonight, I want to preach on the subject of the law of the burnt offering. The law of the burnt offering. Now, we understand when we're in the book of Leviticus and when the book of Exodus and Deuteronomy, we understand that we're talking a lot about the Old Testament tabernacle, which should be the favorite subject of every Bible student that you love to hear about the Old Testament, the Old Testament tabernacle, because the Old Testament tabernacle points directly to Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation. As a matter of fact, it's it's it's been said If you took an aerial view of where God told them to place the pieces of furniture, if you took an aerial view, he told them to put the altar at a certain place and the labor at a certain place and the the table of shoebre to the right and the uh candlesticks to the left and the ark of the covenant would be directly in front. that if you took an aerial view of the tabernacle, you would see the form of the cross that would be there. Everything in the tabernacle speaks about our precious redeemer, Jesus Christ. Everything. Everything from the gate of praise. Don't you know tonight that Jesus is the reason why we praise? Don't you know tonight that Jesus is the reason that we sing? You got a praise on your heart. It's because we got Jesus on our heart. He's the reason that we can sing tonight. He's the He's the offering on the altar. He was the lamb slain that laid on the altar. He's the water in the labor. He's the bread on the table. He's the light in the candlestick. His veil, his flesh, was torn so that we could go where we never could go had his veil not been torn. his body on the cross. Can I get a witness tonight? I'm I'm so glad that the Lord saved me. I'm so glad that he had this wonderful plan of redemption and he is the holy of holies and he is the mercy seat and he is he is the mana. He is the rod that but in everything everything all these uh all these Old Testament laws all these Old Testament sacrifices when you really begin to dissect them why you just begin to see Jesus Christ you just begin to see him in his glory and this burnt offering is no exception. It derives its name from the fact that it was burnt upon the altar all night until the morning. It is the law of the burnt offering. We find out that this offering was on the altar all night until the morning. That this offering led from one day to a new day. We understand that the offering was to last until the end of one day to the beginning of another. And as a side note, as just a side note, it keeps going down through there and it keeps saying, "And the fire on the altar shall never go out, and the fire shall always be burning." And of course, we understand, just to get right to it, the law of the burnt offering, Jesus Christ, that perfect gift and sacrifice for you and I. He was the burnt offering. That's right. He was that burnt offering. And the fire of his love is ever burning. >> It is from eternity. It stepped into time at Bethlehem's manger. But I have come tonight to dip us deeply into the well of God's wonderful love. It was a love that will come from eternity. For the Bible says in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son." Can I tell you, God did not become love at Bethlehem. God has always been love. He just incarnated himself so he could come down here and model to you and I just how glorious his love is tonight. He takes us from an old life. We often if you've experienced the love of God, if you've been born again and experienced the love of God, you often dis divide your life between before Christ and after Christ. I'm telling you, not only time is divided BC and AD, but our lives are are divided that way. We talk about things we used to do and we'll mention and we'll say, of course, that was be BC. That was before Christ. And then we talk about things we're doing now and we talk about that's because we know the Lord and we love the Lord. You know why? He was burning on the altar all night long in eternity so that he could b burst forth as the sweet rose of Sharon and the bright and the morning star. I'm telling you tonight, Jesus love will never diminish. I believe the wise men Solomon had the Holy Ghost to hover over his head as he be to talk about love. And the Holy Ghost hovered over Solomon's head down his shoulder onto his hand into his pen and he be to write in Psalms of Solomon 8 and7. Many waters cannot quench love neither can the floods drown it. If a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contempt. Solomon begin to say, "You can take the Pacific Ocean. You can take the Atlantic Ocean. You can take the Indian Ocean. You can take the longest river in the world, the Amazon, and you can try to extinguish the love of God. And you'll never extinguish the love of God." Oh church tonight, shake yourself and understand that we serve a God that wants to dip us deeply in the love of his mercy and his grace. It shall ever it shall ever be burning upon the altar. Oh, wait a minute now. Bring me the woman caught in the very act of adultery. Bring me the very woman. Judgmental spirits cannot change the way that Jesus deals with the woman caught in the act of adultery. In the Bible said in the very act of adultery. No, no questions about it. She's guilty. We caught her in the act of adultery. But Jesus who is deep in love. Jesus who is our burnt offering. Jesus that burned from eternity into time in a new morning. Does it not say that he is the bright and the morning star? Because he burnt all night throughout eternity waiting to save a world like you and I. But he burst forth. But let me tell you, this loving God doesn't look the other way with the woman. this loving God first begin to deal with the judgmental spirits that were so inconsistent. Boy, people get judgmental is a is a good indication they've not had a swim in God's wonderful pool of love because it's hard for me to judge you when I know where he's brought me from. It's hard for me to point a finger when I think of the goodness of Jesus and all he's done for me. I I I Oh, I feel the Holy Ghost right now. I uh you could tell judgmental people, they've not been dipped in that pool of God's love in a while. And they come and he first had to start writing things on the ground. And we've all got a message or two about what he wrote. Did he Did he Did he write? Did he did he did he write some of their thoughts? We don't really know what he wrote, but I do know what he wrote caused them to drop their stones. >> All right. I cannot I cannot join the millions that going to tell you what he wrote on the ground. But I can tell you whatever he wrote on the ground caused the judgmental guys. In other words, if you let me let's just be let's be fair here. If you caught the woman, you could have caught the man. You see, God's love isn't partial. >> Oh, let me say that again. >> God's love isn't partial. >> Do you know that God doesn't love me any more than he loves you? >> Now, he might be pleased with you more than he is me. But when it comes to God's love, all of us have the same amount of love when it comes to God. >> And so, he could have said, "Where's the man?" But they were so inconsistent and so judgmental. He first delivered her from her judgmental accusers and when he got them to drop their stones because when I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that he's done for me, when I think of where I could be had not my mother put me in that Christian school, when I think of where I could be had it not good saints of God for years had been going to church and building a building at 5020 Pleasant Ridge Road. When I think of the blessings that God has brought me to, I can't be judgmental against anybody tonight. I've got to stand and say, "Let's go swimming in God's wonderful pool of love." He delivered. And then he said to the woman, "Where's your where's your accusers?" She looked around and said, "I have none, Lord." And here's the sweetest words that'll ever come from his mouth, and you better get in in the mercy dispensation because he will soon set on the judgment seat. Just like you you you you caught where during the burnt offering, there was the changing of clothing of the priest. He came and had one set of clothes on for the ashes and then he had another set of clothes on for taking the ashes out. That's because right now Jesus Christ, if you want to find him, he's in the book of Revelation. He is wearing a priestly garment in the book of Revelation. He is walking among the seven churches, which we are one of them. He's walking among the seven churches. And guess what he's walking in? He is working walking in a priestly garment. He is an intercessor. He is a high priest right now. That's the garment that he's walking in. He's walking to give mercy. He's walking to show mercy to the ignorant. He's walking to show mercy to the rebellious. But you better hurry up because one day in the same book of Revelation, he's going to change his garment and he's going to come riding back on a horse and he is the King of Kings and he is the Lord of Lords and he is the judge of all. And you don't want to wait and settle your case out of court. You don't want to go to court. You want to come to the mercy right now and say, "I'd like to settle my case out of court. I'd like to cut a deal with the prosecuting attorney. I'd like to plead guilty and I'd like to hear your sentence. He will say, "If you'll plead guilty, I'll give you grace. Grace, grace, grace." Is somebody with me tonight? Is somebody happy that the Lord saved you? Neither neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more. What about the crooked height height impaired tax collector called Zakius? I'm trying to be politically correct. They said sooner or later we're going to be calling funeral homes the place of the living impaired. Just to be politically correct. Zakius is that we little man. Remember we sing we we used to sing about him in Sunday school. We we sang cool songs when I was in Sunday. >> Zakius was a wee little man. He climbed up. You you y'all don't know what y'all y'all got all these lights and things. I'm in the Lord's army. Then a a group of young people come along that got violent toward the devil and they started writing songs like I'm gonna rip your lips off, you know, and I'm gonna How about that crooked tax collector? Crook was a crook. He's a cheat. He cheat you out of anything. Oh, Zakius Wood. He's wealthy. He's a crook. Everybody knows it and everybody hates him in town. Nobody wants to have anything to do with him. He has cheated more people out of money, tax money. Oh, Zakius. But oh, Zakius, somebody somewhere somehow started telling Zakius about this man called Jesus. I don't know if it was his healing. I don't know if it might have even been that, hey, I'm going to tell you Zakius, you might have a chance, buddy. Oh, ain't no ain't no ain't no Messiah love me with all I've done. I'm hated. Everybody hates me this town. I got to have people ride with me because people hate me in this town. I'm a tax collector. I'm a hated man. I don't know if somebody got to me and said, "Hey, Zachie, you might have a chance, buddy." Cuz he forgave a woman that was caught in the act of adultery. You know how bad we hate those things around here in the city. You know how bad we hate that. So So I don't know what was said, but whatever was said, it stirred up Zakius curiosity. So he went down to see Jesus. That's all he wanted to see. He didn't take he want to talk to him. all he want to do. Brother White and And I got two got brother. I'm talking to both of you. All four of you right now. All All four of you. He didn't want to talk to him. He just want to see him. But they started lining the the road. They started lining the road. And Zakius couldn't see Jesus for the people. And I know that's a whole another sermon and we got to work on that, don't we? Zakius couldn't see Jesus because he was short and he couldn't look over the crowd. But he found him a sycamore tree. He found him a sycamore tree that was in the path where Jesus was going. And that old crooked sinful tax collector. He climbed up in that He climbed up. Let's just have a little fun tonight. He climbed up in that sycamore tree. He got up there and he climbed up in that sycamore tree. He kept climbing in that sycamore tree. Boy, this is fun. They need to They need to vacuum up here anyway. Thank God. He climbed up in that sycamore tree and oh, he got a good view. He could watch Jesus coming down through there. He could watch Jesus. There he was. that were cheering and he could watch Jesus come by and all of a sudden, Brother Cole, step up, step about right to the where the platform goes up. You be Jesus right now. All right? And I want you to holler as loud as you can. Zakius, come home. >> Zakius, come home. >> I meant to say, Zakius, come down. >> Say it again. Can you imagine? First off, he called his name. >> Aren't you glad that before you ever met him, he knew you? >> I said, "Aren't you glad that before you ever met him, he knew you?" You see, you all didn't get acquainted when you got the Holy Ghost and got baptized and talked in tongues. He knew you when you were on a bar stool. He knew you when you was out in the world doing everything. Oh my god. He said, "Jackis, what'd he say?" >> And I'm going to tell you, I'm coming down. Lord, I want you to know right now, I've been a to crooked tax collector. And whatever I've taken, I I'll give it back. And whatever God up up to half, I got I I'll give it all I I'll give it all back today. And guess what happened to that crooked tax collector? He came down to the level where Jesus was and him and Jesus went into his house and they had a meal. And I'm sure that Jesus led Zakius to the plan of salvation of that known time. And I'm not so sure Zakius wasn't in the upper room talking in other tongues all because we are swimming in the in the pool of God's wonder. I I want to get this through you tonight. Are you not thankful that we're swimming in the pool of God's love? Many waters cannot drown it. Floods cannot drown it. The fire on the altar shall never shall never shall never shall never. What about the last minute thief on the cross? What about the last minute thief on the cross that looks over and says, "Lord, remember me." You see, he's full. That one being crucified is so full of love. He doesn't look at the last minute. And I'm not advocating last minute conversions either. Number one, let me let me tell you this. If anybody tells you when they're talking about baptism and they say the thief on the cross wasn't baptized, it wasn't even the dispensation of baptism. All right? >> Water baptism in Jesus name it wasn't even being offered at the time. That thief did the only thing God was accepting. He looked at him and said, "Lord, just remember me when you come into the kingdom." Now, do you think about it? I'm talking about don't you see we want to talk about what we can do to get salvation, what we can do to at least meritable salvation. We wanna we want to lean on the side. Well, here he comes in at the last minute. But you you don't understand who you're dealing with. You're not dealing with you and with me. You're dealing with a a God who is a God of love that many waters cannot extinguish it. If love, Brother Mayford, is a flame, all the water in the Atlantic Ocean can't put it out. All the water in the Pacific Ocean can't put it out. All the water in the world cannot extinguish the wonderful love of God. And I'm so glad I'm one of his. I'm so glad that he saved me. I'm so glad that I know his name. Jesus, this day you will be with me in paradise. In paradise. And you know, go back to just a simple truth. He wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true >> this day. What about the prodical son? Although I know it's a parable, but what about it? What about a boy raised right? What about a girl raised right? What about a boy and a girl raised by good parents? And all of a sudden that boy, that girl turn their backs on every decent thing they have been taught. Goes down to the world, spends the teaching of his father upon harlots and drinking and all the debauchery of the times. The party life. The party life. then broke, busted, disgusted, humiliated, feeding swine. The lowest of the jobs of anyone to feed swine. But the Bible said when he came to himself, I believe with all of my heart that we're going to see a revival of our prodals. I believe with all of my heart they're going to come to themselves and they're going to begin to say, "I know that I had it so good. I never felt God like I felt God when I was in that place." And when he came to himself, he said, "How many servants of my father have bred enough to spare? I will arise and I will go to my father. I will say to my father, father, I am I'm not worthy. I've messed up. I'm scarred. I'm damaged. I have a stigma. I have a record. I'm scarred. I'm damaged. I'm stigma. Have a record. Would you just make me one of the hired servants? Just let me live out back in the quarters. Let me let me live out back as one of the hired servants. But this God that we serve >> whose love cannot be extinguished when he was yet a great way off, he saw him. And the Bible says, there's a lot of tradition here that comes in. It was a tradition, many of them, right, that men of great statue would never run in public. Men of great wealth would never run. It was beneath their dignity. You had servants that ran for you. But if you were a man of power, if you were a man of position, you you you you never ran. But the Bible says that when the father saw him a great way off, he ran to him, fell upon his neck and begin to kiss him and all the boy could get out was just simply he just simply make me just simply all he could get out was a few words. And the father begins to bark the orders. And you do realize the father is representing Jesus Christ. Bring the robe. Bring the ring. Bring the shoes. Kill the fatty calf. Strike up the band. Why? My son that was lost has been found. My son that was dead is alive. I'm telling you, that's the God we serve tonight. Shake yourself. You're not serving a whole taskmaster. You're not serving some old God that's looking to whack you and to get you and beat you down. You're serving a loving God. He wants you to make it. He wants you to smile. He wants you to do these things. He wants you to get up and try again. He wants you to get back in the race because that's the kind of God. Come on, let's lift up our voices and praise him right now. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Yes, Jesus, we love you. Yes, Jesus, we praise you. It burned all night long and it burned to the next day. Is it any wonder? You do realize Easter's coming. And the whole story of Easter is he didn't sleep the night before his crucifixion. There were two trials that Jesus went through. And I think it ties into the burnt offering. He went through a night trial and he went through a day trial. The Bible says that Judas went out and it was dark. Had to be had to be night. When they came to the garden of Gethsemane to arrest him, the Bible said they had lanterns. They have lanterns because it's dark. They take him to the high priest house. They take him to the high priest house and there through the high priest house throughout the night he was smoked in the face he was belittled all night long he was arrested. He was belittled. He was interrogated. The next morning in Matthew 26 and verse number 57, the next morning, would you like to read your Bibles a little tonight? I would. Matthew 26 57. And they that laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caifus, the high priest, where the priest, the scribes, and the elders were assembled. Peter followed him a far off into the high priest's palace. went in and sat with the servants to see the end. Now the chief priests and elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus to put him to death, but found none. Yay, though many false witnesses came, yet none found none. They found none. At last came two false witnesses and said, "This fellow said, I'm able to destroy the temple of God and build it in three days." The high priest arose and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? What is it which these witness against thee? Jesus held his peace. The high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God. That's amazing, isn't he? He was God. I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell tell us whether thou be the Christ, the son of God. Jesus saith unto him, "Thou hast said, Nevertheless, I say unto you, hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven." Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He has spoken blasphemy. What further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now we ye have heard his blasphemy. What think ye? And they answered and said, He is guilty of death. Then did they spit in his face and buffet him, that means to smite him, and others smokeote him with the palms of their hands, saying, "Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, who it is that smoke thee." There's the night trial. That's the burning all night. I'm going to tell you, this is what he did for you and I. While we ought to be willing to just go through some things, when you think about all he did for us, that's his night trial. Now here's the day trial in Luke 23 verse number three. Pilate asked him saying, "Art thou the king of the Jews?" He answered him and said, "Thou sayest," and that's just very quickly when he said, "Thou sayest," that was a custom of that day that if somebody said if they asked you a question and you said, "Thou sayest," you were actually saying it is so true that you're saying it. All right? So when the pilot said, "Are you the Christ?" He said, "Thou sayest, it meant it's so true, Pilate, that you're saying it." Then said Pilate to the chief priest and to the people, "I find no fault in this man." And they were the more fierce, saying, "He stirth up the people, teaching throughout all jewelry, beginning from Galilee to this place." When Pilate heard, and I want you to really pay attention to this. When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilean. And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. How convenient. Herod is at Jerusalem at that time. When Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him, and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him. Then Herod questioned with him in many words, but he answered him nothing. It's interesting. You know why he didn't say one word to Herod? Because Herod had beheaded the forerunner. Herod had beheaded John the Baptist. And the silence that Jesus was giving to Herod was saying, "If you don't listen to the minister, you're not going to hear from me. If you silence the voice of the min, I'm going to tell you something. It may be oldfashioned. This may go somewhere on a clip. Some reprobate clip may take this and chop it out and make me look like a little tyrant here. But I'm telling you, you got to have a preacher. And he's got to be in the Bible. And you need a you need a a spiritual leader. You need a shepherd. You need an undersheperd. You need a man of God. You need somebody that's going to correct you when you're wrong and praise you when you're right. Because if you don't listen to the John, you're not going to hear the Jesus. He was silent. He was silent. You want to see a miracle? This is not some kind of circus clown. I'm not going to answer you a word. But notice something that happens. Verse 10. The chief priests and scribes stood and veheminently accused him. And Herod with his men of war set him at naugh and mocked him and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe and set him again unto Pilate. It was Herod that put the robe of mockery on him. It was Herod that took a rod and began to smite him in the head. It was Herod that began to physically abuse him. That's right, friend. Because when the when the preacher doesn't bend to the way the world wants it to bend, when we don't preach what they want us to preach, when we don't sing their song and preach their tomb and line up with a woke generation, then they turn violently toward the word of the living God. But I got news for you. The word of God is going to be alive. When the world is on fire, when this world is utterly consumed, there will still be. Is anybody excited tonight that we serve a God you cannot put his love nor his word. Oh, I hadn't planned on preaching this long tonight. What a great crowd to preach to tonight. What a what a great crowd to preach to. Zack Hammond, who? Chad Ericson, who? >> Nolan Carpenter. Who? >> Think the old guy still got it. >> Watch this, please. Watch this. They beat him up. Herod does. Herod does. He beats him up. Puts him in a robe. sends him back to Pilate. And the same day, look at verse 12. See if you can figure out anything about verse 12. And the same day, Pilate and Herod were made friends together. For before they were at enmity, they hated. They had hatred between themselves. And I tell you, there's people in the world that have nothing in common but the fact they hate the church. They have absolutely nothing in common except for the fact they hate the church. Herod and Pilate had nothing in common. Matter of fact, they didn't even like each other. Herod didn't like Pilot and Pilate didn't like Herod until Jesus came in. And that day, they became friends because they both had something in common. Although Pilate said, "I find no fault in him." Pilate wasn't willing to stand up. What do you want me to do with Jesus? There's a custom of yours to release a criminal, violent criminal. Who would you want to roam your streets? Jesus or Barabus the murderer? Jesus who's never hurt a child, never hurt a woman, never hurt a man. Jesus that has improved your community or Barus a murderer. You don't want to live beside him. Murder. Guess what the crowd said? Give us Jesus. Let Barabus go. What will I do with Jesus? Crucify him. That's what you're going to do with him. You're going to crucify him. You're going to silence him. You're going to put him to death. Pilate, he's a little honory. He's a little honory. The man's been up all night long. Jesus has been up all night long. He's been beat. Mother-in-law, he's been beat about his face. He's been spit on. He's been up all night long. He's been beat. He's been mocked. He's physically tired. Pilate says, "I'm going to deny these Jews a public execution." They want him hanging on a cross. I'm going to deny that. I'm going to send him to the whipping post. They'll tie his hands up and they'll strip him up over a post and his toes will barely touch the ground. will stretch him with a leather rod. We'll stretch him up. We'll rip the clothes off his back. The Romans will take the notorious cat of nine tails. This was a whip that had nine individual whips at the end of it. And at the end of each whip was tied rocks and glass. Most men, historians say, never made it through the whipping post. Most people died of shock and loss of blood at the whipping post. But you see, you can't kill what prophecy said was going to hang on a hill. >> You you you can't kill what prophecy says. I'm going to tell you, prophecy says that he's coming back after a glorious church. Prophecy said he's coming back after a bride that's washed her robes in the blood of the lamb. Prophecy said he's coming back after a church. I got news for you. I don't care how wicked our society does. I'm going to be a part of that number when the saints go marching in. I'm going to make it to the other side. You hear? You hear me tonight? I'm going to make it to the other side. Why? You can't extinguish his love. You can't extinguish his blood. I'm going to make it. Come on. If you're going to make it to the other side, would you get up right now and begin to worship and praise him? I'm going to make it to the other side. I may be knocked down. I may be persecuted. I may be knocked down. I may be knocked out. But don't count me out. I'm going to get back up. I'm going to make it all the way home when the saints go marching in. I'm going to be in that number when the saints go marching in. I ain't standing with me tonight. You're not going to kill him. He going he going to slip and slide in his own shed blood. But when it's all over again with two swollen eyes and a busted mouth, he's going to get the cross to put on his back. He's going to make his way up a hill because he's going to be the greatest fountain of love that the world has ever known. You just take a moment and praise and pray with me just for a moment. >> Hallelujah. Aha. Come on, praise him right now. Somebody's here is feeling the love of God right now. Tonight, somebody here tonight has been listening to the voices of hell tell you that God has given up on you. I rebuke that voice of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ tonight. God has not given up on you. It was meant for you to be in this service tonight. It was meant for me to preach. It was meant for this message to go forth. You need to listen to me real closely tonight. Listen to me real closely because I'd hate to correct anybody publicly. There's only one sin that there's no forgiveness of. That's blaspheming the Holy Ghost. Of course, just let's spare what the blasphemy blaspheming the Holy Ghost is. That you you the the process is that you backslide and you you you you still know. See, the backsliders, they still know that there's one God. and and backsliders backsliders still know a lot of the things of God. They've just slien back and their hearts are cold. But when you somehow enter to the state of apostasy to where you begin to look back and attack and say, "Well, that's of the devil. That's that's Satan. That's Satan in that church." I'm sorry, but that's blaspheming of the Holy Ghost. That's blaspheming of the Holy Ghost. And if you're prodal tonight, if you're backsliding, that's the next phase of your life to go into. It's the next phase. Please don't. Please, oh God, please. But now I'm going to ask you a question. Putting blasphemy of the Holy Ghost aside, can someone speak out and name one sin that the blood can't cover? Now remember, I I'll correct you publicly. I said, "Name me one sin that the blood cannot cover." Any takers? Anybody tonight? I said, "Name me one sin that the blood cannot cover." If that be the truth, we need to start treating people differently. Cuz we treat some of our fallen brothers and sisters like they've done something that cannot be forgiven. I'm here to tell you first apostolic, I'm going to prick you a little bit right now. It's no good for us to cry about people in Rome and people in Germany and people in Africa and give and give and yet we can't show the true love of God to our brothers and our sisters that are here. Name me one sin that the blind cannot cover. >> I'm sorry. I'll be done. David had a son by the name of Abselum. Abselum had a sister by the name of Tamar. Had a brother by the name Abselum. Had another brother by the name of of Amnan. Amnan raped his sister Tamar. Abselum found out that Amnan raped his sister. And Amnan plotted and planned and had Amn Abselum plotted and planned and had Amnan murdered. When Abselum had Amnan murdered, he knew he knew that he had to leave Jerusalem. He knew that he had to leave because the avenger of blood would be on his trail. And so Amnan went into a far country. He went into Egypt. I believe it was. And just follow the story with me. Amnan went in. A Abselum went in to Egypt. The Bible says after David had grieved over Ammon, he be to long for Absel. I know my boy did wrong. I know he should have never plotted and planned and killed. He longed. His friend Joab saw how David longed. He saw how David would show mercy on everybody but his own son. So Amnot or so Joab got a woman and the woman went into David and said, "David, I've got a problem." Said, "My two sons were fighting and there was nobody there to separate." And said, "My son, one of my sons killed the other one." And said, "Now the avenger of blood has come to take my son away from me." And David said, "That's it, David. Not a hair of his head will be touched. I will take care of the avenger of blood. You will be totally safe. Your son, the word of the king, I know your son murdered another as his brother. But I the king, I the king overrule the blood avenger. and he better not touch he better not touch your son. And then the woman looked at him and said, "You're faulty in your judgment. For you, David, have a son in a far country and you've done nothing to bring him back." You see how we can somehow be church? You see how we can somehow be church family? We can be more compassionate with God's love over people we don't know. But the very people that would be encouraged to know that we feel there's still valuable, there's still a chance, you still got hope. I don't think about your fall every time I see you walk up in the choir. I don't think about what you did every time you come up around the altar. My God, somebody help me tonight. It's got to be the Brother Pool, can you name me one sin the blood can't cover? Then get up here in the altar. Then you're the kind of man I want in the altar. Sister Pool, can you name me? Anybody else just want to walk out of your pew as a testimony saying there's not any sin that the blood can't cover? >> Somebody's here tonight that needs to give their heart to God. I need to release some men and women tonight in this altar to go praying. I'm going to release you tonight. You need to go through this audience putting your hands and laying your hands upon people right now. Don't stifle your grace. Don't stifle your mercy.
