Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The Texts: The Father of Us All
- Romans 4:16: therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace, to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
- Isaiah 51:1-2: hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged; look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you, for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.
- He announces his subject on this Father's Day: the portrait of a good father, and finds it in Abraham, claimed as father by the world's three leading religions.
- First Samuel 10:26: Saul also went home, and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched; he thanks God for the brotherhood of this church, the men in this room whose hearts God has touched.
Scriptures: Romans 4:16; Isaiah 51:1-2; 1 Samuel 10:26
He Hears, Obeys, and Builds Altars
- Genesis 12:1-5: now the Lord had said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee; and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed; so Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him.
- A good father hears and answers the call of God; he does not only hear, but answers with obedience, not knowing where he is going.
- Genesis 12:7-9: the Lord appeared unto Abram and said, unto thy seed will I give this land, and there builded he an altar unto the Lord; and he removed unto a mountain east of Bethel and there he builded an altar unto the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord.
- Godly fathers establish places of worship for themselves and their families, and lead the way in vocal praise.
Scriptures: Genesis 12:1-5; Genesis 12:7-9
Failure, and the Road Back to the Altar
- Genesis 12:10: there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was grievous in the land; his newly developing faith began to be led by fear instead of faith, and he asked Sarah to say she was his sister, for a half truth is a whole lie.
- Genesis 12:17: and the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarah, Abram's wife; the promise of God upon a man is greater than the momentary sidetracks of his deceit.
- Genesis 12:18-20: Pharaoh called Abram and said, what is this that thou hast done unto me; now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way, and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
- Genesis 13:1-4: Abram went up out of Egypt and went on his journeys unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first, and there Abram called on the name of the Lord; good fathers know how to correct wrong, unwise, and even sinful decisions, and there is no better place to start over than the altar.
Scriptures: Genesis 12:10; Genesis 12:17; Genesis 12:18-20; Genesis 13:1-4
A Peacemaker
- Genesis 13:7-9: there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle, and Abram said unto Lot, let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, for we be brethren; separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right.
- A good father wants peace in his family, and peace begins with peace between a man and his God; he would rather give up his way today and have peace on down the road.
- Romans 14:19: let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another; second Timothy 2:22: flee also youthful lusts, but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace; Hebrews 12:14: follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord; Matthew 5:9: blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
- Genesis 13:14-18: after Lot was separated from him, the Lord said, lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever; and Abram removed his tent and came and dwelt in the plain named in the verse and built there an altar unto the Lord; good fathers build altars not only out of desperation but out of a thankful heart.
Scriptures: Genesis 13:7-9; Romans 14:19; 2 Timothy 2:22; Hebrews 12:14; Matthew 5:9; Genesis 13:14-18
Rescuer and Tithe-Giver
- Genesis 14:14-16: when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan, and he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
- Good fathers help others who are suffering the consequences of wrong and unwise decisions; a good father does not say I told you so, but arms himself with intercessory prayer and goes after the captive.
- Genesis 14:18-20: Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine, and he was the priest of the most high God, and he blessed him, and Abram gave him tithes of all; good fathers bring blessing on their families by supporting the work that blesses them.
- Hebrews 7:4 and 7:9: consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils; and Levi also, who receiveth tithes, paid tithes in Abraham, for he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him; what a father supports reaches descendants he will never see.
Scriptures: Genesis 14:14-16; Genesis 14:18-20; Hebrews 7:4; Hebrews 7:9
He Keeps Believing to the End
- Genesis 17:1: when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect; twenty-four years after the call he is still believing, for good fathers don't give up, they just keep believing; it is a marathon, not a sprint.
- Genesis 22:1-2: God did tempt Abraham, and said, take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah, and offer him there for a burnt offering; the test taught Isaac as well as Abraham that God is first.
- Genesis 25:5-6: Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac, but unto the sons of the concubines gave Abraham gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son while he yet lived; he moved everything away that could hinder the promise.
- Isaiah 9:6: for unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father; through Abraham's seed we are brought to Jesus Christ.
- Revelation 22:1-4: he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb, and on either side of the river was there the tree of life, and there shall be no more curse, and his servants shall serve him, and his name shall be in their foreheads.
- He closes by inviting every father to the altar for worship, and dismisses the congregation in Jesus' name.

would you join me in the Book of Romans chapter 4. and verse number 16. Romans chapter 4 verse number 16. Isaiah chapter 51 verses 1 and 2. so Paul is hammering away in Romans and trying to get a group of people that have based their salvation on their works to try to get them to understand and comprehend faith faith in Romans 4 and 16. Paul says therefore it is of faith that it might be by Grace Grace's strength to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed not to that only which is of the law but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham who is the father of us all who is the father of us all Isaiah 51 and verse number one and two God says hearken to me listen to me God says ye that follow after righteousness ye that seek the Lord look unto the rock which ye are hewn and to the whole of the pit which you are digged verse 2. look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah that bear you I called him alone and blessed him and increased him on this Father's Day I'd like to minister on the subject the portrait the portrait of a good father portrait of a good father father I ask you today to help me Lord to feed your sheep Lord I ask you today God that you would use my lips and you would use my mind you would use my voice the thoughts God about your word and your word that you would use them today God to touch our hearts in this place God in our confused Society of which the church is now planted God help us to have strong families built upon strong men and I'll give you praise and honor and glory in Jesus name we pray amen amen you may be seated today God bless you for staying the portrait the portrait of a good good father we are blessed and extremely fortunate here at fac to have a strong core of dedicated men we are blessed we don't really realize how blessed we are but we are blessed here at fac with the tremendous amount of men that are dedicated men that bring strength and men that brings leadership to this church and I think it would be honoring to God for us to give all the men a hand right now the men the men the men it brings strength and Leadership to this body I am thankful today that it is the band of men that we're surrounded with that contributes greatly to the success of the kingdom of God of which he has given us to perform first Samuel chapter 10 and verse 26 tells about the start of King Saul when he was freshly anointed to be king of Israel the Bible says and Saul also went to gibea and there went with him a band of men whose heart God had touched that was the beginning of Saul's Ministry a fortunate Saul was to have a band the word band means a circle a surrounding of men his influence his voices his counselors were all a group of men but not just an ordinary group of men but a group of men helped me now whose hearts God had touched I personally am thankful to God today and want to acknowledge the men in this room that God placed in my life the men that are in this room that have been used of God to develop things in me that otherwise would not be there today I thank God for the Brotherhood of fac of Maryville today and again I want you to give the Brotherhood the men I want you to give them a hand today men am I very far off this statement you can tell the men did the decorating yesterday all right right you could tell there's no femininity out there in the lobby today all right there's no there's no there's no peacock feathers there's nothing like that out there today men men Abraham is called father he is called father by the world's three leading religions the world's three leading religions connect back to this man by the name of Abram who later was called Abraham and they called him father Judaism lays claim to Abraham Christianity Christianity lays claim to Abraham Islam lays claim to Abraham this powerful man needs us to take a few moments because I believe if there's ever been a portrait of a good father it's found in Abraham I believe if I I want to become a good father I'm going to study and look at the things that made Abraham a good father what made Abraham a father it's interesting to note brother Hammond that the name Abraham in the KJV is mentioned 70 times in the New Testament Bible in the New Testament he has mentioned 70 times he is second only to Moses Moses his name appears 80 times great importance is put upon Abraham all right so I want to know what a good father looks like so I find myself in Genesis chapter 12 verse number one now the Lord had said unto Abram get thee out of thy country and from thy Kindred from thy Father's House unto a lamb that I will show thee I will make a v a great nation I Will Bless thee and I and will make thy name great and thou shalt be a blessing I will bless them that bless thee and curse him that curseth thee and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed so Abram Departed as the Lord had spoken unto him and lot went with him Abram was 70 and five years old when he departed out of Heron it's not going to be a deep sermon today get your pen pencil out but you need to write down you need to write down what what a good portrait of a father is a good father hears and answers the call of God a good father a good father is one that hears but not just hears but he hears and he answers the call of God out of nowhere God speaks to Abram and God tells him to leave the surroundings to leave his kindred and doesn't tell him where he's going doesn't tell him anything about just simply you are to get up and to go out not knowing where you're going I knows to some that would be ridiculous to some that would be almost teetering on the insane surely God would never ask but God ask Abram God ask Abraham so a good father today hears and answers the call of God a good father today is sitting here saying under your breath speak to me Lord speak to my life God and a good father when God speaks to that life a good father not only hears but a good father also answers with obedience go on down to verse number seven and the Lord appeared unto Abram and said unto thy seed will I give this land there built it he and altar unto the Lord who appeared unto him he removed from thence into a mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent having Bethel on the west and Haya on the East and they're built it he and altar unto the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord and Abram journeyed going on still toward the South now Godly fathers established places of worship for themselves and their families Godly fathers vocally worship God this Godly father this look unto Abraham this Abraham the father of us all this man not only heard the voice of God this man not only obeyed the voice of God but when he was out between home and his future home he knew how to build altars he knew that he and his family needed a thing on this earth called an altar that they could gather around and Abraham led the praise you see here today some can just call this another building some can just call this another house of worship but there's a group of good Fathers in this room today that have made sure that their families have a place to come and worship they have made sure that their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren have Sunday School classrooms where tambourines out of paper plates can be made because a good father wants this more than anything I want my children to know the God that I have embraced and a good father leads the way in vocal praise that's what makes fac so special around here we don't let the women do all the praising we don't let the women do all the shouting God has blessed fac with a group group of men he was an altar Builder he knew how to build altars he knew how to construct buildings he knew how to construct places where he could vocally call out upon the God who had called him out a good father a good father going down to verse number 10. verse number 10. and there was a famine in the land and Abraham went down into Egypt to sojourn there for the famine was Grievous for the famine was Grievous in the land and let's get the scenery here Abraham has been called out his faith is being developed his faith is being developed he's called out but then a famine a famine hits the land a scarcity of food now at this time Abraham or Abram is already a wealthy man he already has cattle he already has a lot of livestock he is a healthy man he is a wealthy man he's already wealthy but now I'm in the midst of a famine what happens to Abraham when his newly developing faith faces of famine what happens when his newly developing faith in this God who speaks out of thin air this God that speaks to my life when my newly developed faith meets with a famine well I'll tell you what happened he goes down toward Egypt because Egypt which is the world has always given us a promise to take care of us and so Abram steps out of the realm of being led by faith and he becomes he begins to be he begins to be led by the opposite of faith and the opposite of faith is fear becomes fearful the spam in here he doesn't see God able to take care of him in the famine he sees a God that can take him out he sees a God that can bring him out he sees a God that he can erect altars to but when he sees this famine famine becomes greater in his eyes in his faith and then as he approaches the walls of Egypt he understands that his wife Sarah is a very beautiful woman and he understands the Society of the culture of the Egyptians at that time he's a wealthy man but not only that he's a wealthy man and his wife is extremely beautiful and so he knows what the Egyptians will do all they'll have to do is to kill me they just have to kill me and when they kill me they will take my livestock and they'll take my beautiful wife and so for whatever reason Abraham steps into deceit he steps into wanting to be deceitful and he says to Sarah he says when we get to Egypt when we get there you are to say that you are my sister we are brother and sisters and of course some would be quick to remind me that that's a that's you know that's half the truth it was Abraham that there was a sister Bond there but you all know this please hear this today half truth is a whole lie so they said that she's my sister that's my brother and so they left them alone for a while until word came that there was a beautiful new woman in Egypt and Pharaoh sent and had her brought into his concubine and wood but where she was in preparation she was in preparation to become one of his wives she was in that that preparation but then God in verse number 17 and the Lord plagued pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarah Abram's wife now I'm going to stop there for a moment and tell you about this God and I'm not advocating that we sin and God will bless us but I am advocating and telling you today that the promise of God that is upon you is greater is greater than the moment Terry sidetracks of your deceit God's promise on Abram was greater then his momentary being paralyzed by fear by seeing the the famines that are around that are around him and he he concox this story he can catch his story and and when he does God doesn't say well you get what you deserve Bud you're getting what you deserve you you your wife has been taken away from you no God looks beyond God looks beyond our deceit God and again I want to be very careful I'm not advocating that you'll be deceitful you need to stop that if you are because God's Mercy is only going to go so far but I want to emphasize today that when God has a promise on your life he plagued the house with great plagues because of because of Sarah Abram's wife Pharaoh called Abram and said what is this that thou has done why this thou not tell me that she was thy wife why set us thou she is my sister so I might have taken her to me to wife now therefore Behold thy wife take her and go thy way and Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him and they sent that's a very strong word there they sent him away and his wife and all that he had in other words that word sent there literally means they shoved him out of the city they shoved him out of the city here's what I'll tell you about a good father Even in our failures there is a teaching moment Even in our failure there is a teaching moment in this case if God was able to plague the house of pharaoh God was able to provide for Abraham if God was able to plague the house of Plenty then God was able to provide so let me say this even good Fathers are not perfect good Fathers are not always perfect and I want to preach to our men today and tell you don't you allow condemnation and guilt and past imperfections of your decisions when your faith was not large enough to overcome the plague when your faith wasn't large enough to overcome the famine stop living in the years of yesterday when you made a decision to go to Egypt start living in the teaching moment I start walking out saying you know I believe God now if he was able to plague Pharaoh's house he would have been able to put corn in bags he would have been able to feed and to protect us good Fathers good Fathers know how to correct wrong unwise and even sinful decisions they make let me say that again good Fathers know how to correct wrong unwise and sinful decisions that they make how do you know that Pastor Carpenter when they shoved him out of Egypt Genesis chapter 3 verse number one or excuse me Genesis Chapter 13 Verse number one and Abram went up out of Egypt he and his wife and all that he had and lot went with him into the South Abram was very rich in cattle and silver and gold and he went on his journeys from the south to Bethel unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning between Bethel and A.I under the place of the altar which he had made there at the first and there Abraham called on the name of the Lord can I tell you a portrait of a good father is when he has done wrong when he has done sinful when he has made unwise decisions he doesn't Waller in it he doesn't stay at the Gate of Egypt guess what he did when they shoved him out of Egypt he said I am going back to the place of the altar Sarah this is a place that we're going to go back and we're going to start all over again on this Sunday morning of Father's Day God would have no greater pleasure than some father in this room that is wallowing in past decisions to shake off the muck and the mire and say I'm going back to where I was at at the very at the very oh there's no better place to start over like the altar amen said there's no better place to start over like the ultra I'm glad that God gives us a Sunday morning to start over I'm glad that God gives us a Sunday night to start over I'm glad that God gives us a Wednesday night to start over and listen friend if you need to start over on Monday you can start over on Monday but we serve a god that gives us an opportunity to start over thank you Jesus Genesis Chapter 13 Verse 7. and there was a Strife between the herdmen of Abrams cattle and the Herdman of lots cattle in other words a lot went with him and lot had cattle Lotus Abraham's nephew he's got his own livestock he's got his own cattle Abram's got his cattle and then something began to happen their cattle begin to increase until there wasn't enough water for them and their cattle begin to increase until there wasn't enough grazing land for them the cattle begin to increase until the herdsmen of Abram and the herdsmen of lot begin to fight each other they begin to they begin to fight physically fighting with each other and Abraham in verse number eight Abraham said unto lot let there be no Strife I pray thee between me and thee between my herdmen and thy herdmen for we be brethren is not the whole earth of the whole land before they separate thyself I pray thee from me if thou take to the left hand then I will go to the right if thou depart to the right hand then I will I will go to the left can I tell you what a good father wants a good father a portrait of a good father I want peace in my family I want peace in my family a good father wants peace in the family a good father wants peace in his life he wants the peace of God the peace the peace that starts with the good father is the peace that you have between you and your God there's nothing like having peace between you and your God if you're pleasing God and you're pleasing God he gives you this peace that cannot be explained but if you're not pleasing God he'll take sleep from your eyes you can buy the finest and still be uncomfortable you can make more than you've ever made but still not feel like you have enough so a man first has to find peace with his God and when he finds peace with his God he can find peace with his marriage and when he has peace in his marriage they have peace in the family because what we need more than ever before we need fathers here today that's going to say we don't want to live in Strife we don't want to live in bickering we don't want the children to be at each other we want we want there to be peace we want there to be peace Romans Chapter 14 verse number 19. let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace and things which wherewith one may edify one may edify another Paul again says in second Timothy 2 22 flee also youthful lust but follow righteousness Faith charity and peace Hebrews chapter 12 verse 14 follow that Greek word there means pursue run after peace with all men and Holiness without which no man will see the Lord Jesus speaks in Matthew 5 verse number 9 blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God a portrait of a good father he hears and obeys the will of God he builds places he builds places brother Holden that he can worship God along with his family he is a man that after he's made unwise decisions and sinful decisions he is a man that can come up out of Egypt and go back to the Altar and call out upon God but he's also a man that can look at his family and say this is not God's will for us to be at each other's throats it's not God's will for us to be bickering it's not God's will for us to be fighting and then he simply said to Abram he simply said Delight he said we have to separate you just choose you just choose whichever direction you want to go in whichever direction you want to go I'll go the opposite direction you just you just choose can I tell you something a good father doesn't necessarily have to get his way as a matter of fact I would rather for the sake of Peace not get my way today but if it will produce peace on down the road I'd rather give up my way today if I could have peace on down the road amen and so he says you just go whichever direction you want I'll go the opposite you know the story Abraham chose or excuse me lot shows the well-watered plains of Sodom lot looked as far as physical was concerned he looked at the foliage he looked at the he looked at the well-watered plains of Sodom and he said that's where I'm going to go that's where I my wife and my family is going to go that's where I'm that's there lot looked at Prosperity but he didn't look close enough to see the problems because the Bible says the men of Sodom of which of of which still yet today the word Sodom is used to describe sexual perversion at its very high the Bible says the men of Sodom were Wicked Sinners before the Lord now when it puts it before the Lord when it ever says there were Sinners before the Lord that meant they knew better and they did it in his face all right they were Wicked Sinners before the Lord they knew better than what they were doing but they were unashamed in their sexual perversion and that's where lot moved his family to and we all know that did not end well at all but Abraham after he allows lot to have his way in verse 14 the Bible says and the Lord said unto Abram after that lot was separated from him lift up now thine eyes and look from the place where thou art northward Southward Eastward Westward for all the land that thou seeest to thee will I give it and thy seed forever for I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth so that if a man can number the dust of the earth then shall thy seed also be numbered arise walk through the land in the length of it and in the breath of it for I will give it unto thee then Abram removed his tent and came and dwelt in the plane of memory which is in Hebron and built there an altar built there an altar built there an altar unto the Lord now I want you to follow this now I want you to follow this do you realize God is telling this man he's going to have seed if you can count the dust if you can count the Dust you can count how many descendants you have do you realize that this man has no child then him and his wife are well up in age and they have absolutely they have absolutely no child no no children none at all yet God is speaking to him about an innumerable number of descendants that will come out of him the Bible said that God told Abraham said I want you to walk through the land the breath of it the length of it I want you to see that everything that you see is going to be given to you Abraham went and Abraham believed God he removed his tent he came into the land the Bible says there he built an altar unto the Lord good Fathers not only call upon God out of desperation but they also build altars just to a thankful heart and a thankful soul and I'm going to tell you something if you're new here at fac today and I make reference to the men but if you're new here today you're going to notice one unusual thing about this church is we all come to the altar around here we all we all gather up around the altar now the unusual thing about that is is some people in Pentecost is God in their mind that the altar was only the place they went to when they needed to repent initially and after that I don't go to the altar anymore that's for the Sinners to go up there that's that's for them to go up there or they only go to the altar when life falls apart I've got a cancer report uh my mate is leaving me I've got a child that I just found out it's on drugs on and on and on then we want to run to the Altar and I'm going to say there's nothing wrong there's nothing wrong with that but we need to go to the altar not only when things have fallen apart but we need to come to the altar in a thankful heart just to lift our hands and say God I thank you for the promises God lord I thank you God I don't have a problem that I know of in this world but God I'm just going to build an altar you've made me a promise I don't know how you're going to see me through I don't know how we're going to come to parents of a numeral number of people but God if you said it I'm going to glorify you and I'm going to worship your name because you said it God you said it God come on give him a praise offering right now good Fathers good Fathers not only call upon God out of desperation but also they call on God when they just want to say thank you Jesus thank you Lord when you when you just want to look over and see your family in the house of God you want to sit here and look up in the choir and see your great-granddaughters and great-grandsons and just say Jesus thank you Lord thank you Lord go to Chapter 14 verse number 14. Genesis 14 14. and when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive he armed his trained servants born in his house 318 and pursued them unto Dan let me tell you what happened a few years later the Canaanite Kings waged war on Sodom and Gomorrah and the Canaanite Kings to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah captive now how does this influence Abraham Abraham's nephew he calls him brother there Abraham's nephew was in Sodom Abraham's nephew wife daughters son-in-laws have been taken captive the Bible says that he armed 318 men and pursued them unto Dan he divided himself against them he and his servants by night and smote them and pursued them unto hoba which is on the left hand of Damascus and he brought back all the goods and also brought again his brother lot his goods and the women also and the people good Fathers help others who are suffering the consequences of wrong sinful and unwise decisions a good father doesn't say I told you so a good father a good father even though even though he might have told you in the past don't go there don't go there when they do go there a good father doesn't sit in the confines of his comfort and says well I told him not to go there I told them not to do that but a good father knows how to say it's time to go to prayer it's time that we go to prayer because my son has been captive down in Egypt my son has been captive by this Army and it's time for me to arm myself and go down and use intercessory prayer use a phone call use anything that I can because my brother has been taken in captivity a good father a good father a good father doesn't say I told you so you get what you deserve I told you I told you know a good father goes down a good father all right although it's not recorded in the Bible I just really wonder what was what was said when Abraham showed up and freed lot and his wife and his children from the Canaanite Kings I wonder if lot I know that he went back to Sodom but I wonder if there wasn't words spoken like thank you and thank you for doing this going down with me to verse number 18 of the same chapter Abraham takes great spoil he takes material from this battle he takes a spoil and Melchizedek king of king of Salem brought forth Bread and Wine he was the priest of the most high God he blessed him he blessed Abram and said Blessed Be Abram of the most high god possessor of Heaven and Earth and blessed be the most high God which hath delivered that enemies into thine hands and Abram he gave him tithe he gave him tithe of all now Melchizedek is an Old Testament type of Jesus Christ because he was not of the levitical priesthood and there's a lot of things and time would not allow me but he is he is a dual one most of the time you were a king you were a king or you were a priest but you were not a king Authority and a priest an intercessor You Were King and and a priest or but this Melchizedek who typifies Jesus Christ was both a king and a priest he met Abraham with bread and wine after the battle the bread represents flesh the wine represents Spirit he met Abraham with a blessing he blessed him possessor of Heaven and Earth of the most high God and when he did Abram Abram gave him tithe of all Abram supported what was blessing him what was blessing him with food wine and bread and the blessings of God possessor of Heaven and Earth Abram turned around and gave him tithe of all a portrait of a good father brings blessing good Fathers bring blessings upon themselves and their families by supporting the work of God by supporting the work of God I uh I saw Sister Mary Lou kitchens here this morning she's with us this morning and uh her daughter Lori Hawkins come up and said mama needs prayer in the back and I went back and anointed her with oil and prayed over her but you know something Mary Lou kitchen's Mom and Dad Troy and Ruby profit they were in this church not on the hill they were up there but they were at the first church over on the corner of Monroe and McGinley Street they were over there supporting the work of God they were over there supporting the things as a matter of fact when we poured the concrete for the new Auditorium up on the hill and we needed we needed I think ten thousand dollars for concrete and over there in that little McGinley Street building that morning I told the people that we need ten thousand dollars for the concrete it was Troy profits raspberry voice that put a finger up in the air and said I'll give one I'll give one and and I thought it's a a a hundred dollars and I said thank you brother profit for a hundred dollars no no no no I'll give a thousand dollars now back then I that might have been one of the largest offerings somebody had given I'll give I'll give I'll give a thousand I'll give a thousand dollars for that now I've already preached Troy and Ruby profit's funeral they kept the faith and I preached their funeral and they're laying they're laying over here in the cemetery but sprinkled throughout matter of fact let me see right if you're kin to Ruby or Troy Prophet would you stand right now would you stand right now if you're kin Detroit or Ruby profit would you stand here some over here if you can it now now some of them probably working working around here here we are like can I tell you can I tell you this morning that had it not been from a Troy and a ruby Prophet supporting the house of God that wouldn't have been a preacher that could have run out when their daughter got sick folks when we support what's blessing us we're not only being blessed in the moment but we're being blessed in the legacy of the house of God the Legacy and I'm going to show you this this morning very quickly I'm going to show you this in Hebrews chapter 7 verse number four they were discussing Melchizedek and it says in Hebrews chapter 7 verse number 4 now consider how great this man was unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoil verse number nine of the same chapter and as I may say I so say Levi also who receives tithe pain ties in Abraham for he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him now Levi Levi is the great grandson of Abraham he's the great grandson of Abraham Levi is the great grandson but when God looked at Abraham standing there giving tithe to Melchizedek God didn't just see Abraham giving tithe to Melchizedek he saw all the descendants coming out of the loins and he said Levi paid time for he was yet in the loins of Abraham when Abraham paid time oh that that ought to cause us all to want to support the work of God if there's something when we're long dead and gone if there's something our children our descendants needs is not a bigger football stadium it's not a bigger screen television if there's something our children needs come on do you believe this today do you believe this today good Fathers good Fathers don't give up they just keep believing I wish you'd say that with me good Fathers don't give up they just keep believing say it again good Fathers don't give up they just keep believing Abraham was 75 years old when God first called him Genesis 17 verse number 1. and when Abram was 90 years and nine 99 years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said unto him I am the almighty God walk before me and be thou perfect I will make a covenant he realized 24 years later he still believing fathers today don't be a sprinter get in this in a marathon don't be a sprinter stay in this thing sometimes you're walking sometimes you're sitting sometimes you're jogging and sometimes you're running but don't ever quit always stay in this race I will I'm 80. that's been five years since he promised me this just keep on walking Abraham well I'm 90 it's been it's been 50 it's been 15 years since he promised it just keep on walking fathers today a good father just keeps on believing if God didn't answer your prayer if God made you a promise if he didn't fulfill the promise this year keep walking with him another year but don't ever give up don't ever lay your Bible down don't ever don't don't ever sell your you don't ever sell your your your Bible don't ever sell your things just keep on Just Keep On Believing Just Keep On Believing oh I got to bring this to an end today I got to bring this to an end he's over a hundred years old now well over a hundred years old and God says to Abraham in Genesis 22 and 1. and he came to pass after these things that God did tempt Abraham and said unto him Abraham and he said behold here am I he said take now thy son thine only son Isaac whom thou lovest and get thee into the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of story is the older we get we have to keep speaking to a generation that God is first that God is first there's fathers here today that are in their early 20s his father's here today there that that are well up in age today but whether you're in your early 20s or your late 80s don't ever stop telling your descendants that God is first don't ever stop what God Said to Abram what God spoke to Abraham I'm of the persuasion that the test was not only sister Carpenter the test of offering up Isaac was not only for Abraham but I believe it was for Isaac I believe the generation that is coming behind us needs to hear us say God is first even when it doesn't make sense God is first I believe that Isaac needed to see what are you doing Dad what are you doing son God's never failed me God's word is true God asked me to present you as a sacrifice on this mountain now Isaac I'm going to tell you something if God has to resurrect You From the Ashes God made me a promise and God's going to resurrect You From the Ashes and there just as Abraham took the knife and we'll slip that boy's throat God stop the whole thing out of heaven and said now I know I know now I'm telling you I don't believe the the trial was only for Abraham but I believe that it was also for Isaac for Isaac to have this generation coming on younger generation coming on please don't allow there to be a generation gap between you and your 63 year old Pastor don't don't don't let it be well he's out of touch with me I want to tell you God first I may not know how to operate your cell phone I may not know how to operate the latest gadget that the Apple store sells but I can I may not can get you in this and get you in that but if you'll listen to me I'll get you into heaven if you will listen to me I'll get you a happy life if you will listen to me I'll get you married up to somebody that's going to love God somebody is going to be faithful to you if you'll listen if you'll just listen to me Genesis 22 was not only was not only for Abraham but it was for Isaac Genesis 25 and 5 and the musicians would come Genesis 25 and 5. and Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac he gave all that he had unto Isaac but Unto the Sons of the concubines which Abraham had Abraham gave gifts sent them away from Isaac's son while he was yet while he yet lived Eastward unto the East Country look at this just for a moment let's look at it for a moment Abraham knows he's going to die and the last thing he does he gives Isaac who represents the promise he gives him everything but he gives gifts to the concubines sons that he's got by by the concubines not only that only Isaac is the promise he moves the sons of the concubines away why does he do that I don't want anything hindering hindering the promise if I could preach to our children today and tell you I want to move everything of this world away from you I want to remove all the cultural things today that tell you how you ought to worship your God I want to remove them as far away from you because if I can keep you in love with God it'll be the god of Abraham the god of Isaac and the god of Jacob and the god of the twelve sons of Jacob the god of David and come down today to where all the families of the Earth do we see the impact today we see the impact through you Abraham all the families of the Earth will be blessed through you we're we're we are blessed because
