Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Revealed unto Babes

  • The Bible is not a difficult book to the hungry: David panted after God as the deer pants after the water brooks, and hunger is what makes the word come alive.
  • The seventy returned with joy: even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
  • He glues the sermon to the hour when Jesus rejoiced that these things are hid from the wise and prudent and revealed unto babes.

Scriptures: Psalms (book-only, as spoken); Luke 10:17-21

In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Rise Up

  • Peter did not think the words, he said them: 'Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.'
  • It is not the sound of the name but faith in the name: 'his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong.'
  • The second most powerful force on earth - Satan's power - must become subject to the name of Jesus Christ.

Scriptures: Acts 3:1-6; Acts 3:16

None Other Name

  • The council asked by what power or by what name; Peter answered through the name, because the power is in the name.
  • 'Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved' - the name is unique, one of a kind.
  • They threatened the apostles to speak no more in this name; Peter and John answered that it is right in the sight of God to preach it.

Scriptures: Acts 4:7; Acts 4:12; Acts 4:17; Acts 4:19

A Good Name Rather Than Riches

  • A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches - and no price can be set on the name that keeps a soul out of hell.
  • The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it, and is safe - that is where our weapons are kept.
  • Men began to call upon the name of the Lord in the days of Enos, and David came against Goliath in the name of the Lord of hosts: the name was nothing new in the Old Testament.

Scriptures: Proverbs 22:1; Proverbs 18:10; Genesis 4:26; 1 Samuel 17:45

His Name Shall Be Called

  • Emmanuel is not his name but what his name is called - God with us; a virgin conceived and bore a son, and his name is Jesus.
  • His name shall be called Wonderful, counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
  • God hath highly exalted him and given him a name above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow - as Isaiah swore, unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall confess.
  • The angel told Joseph, 'thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins' - and Joseph called his name Jesus.

Scriptures: Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-11; Isaiah 45:22-23; Matthew 1:21; Matthew 1:25

Baptizing Them in the Name

  • The last words of Jesus in all four gospels concern his name: ask in my name; baptize in the name - singular - of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost; signs follow them that believe in my name; repentance and remission of sins preached in his name; life through his name.
  • That one singular name is Jesus Christ: Peter's Pentecost answer was 'Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost' - obedience fulfils the command, repeating it does not.
  • At Ephesus Paul rebaptized John's disciples in the name of the Lord Jesus, and the Holy Ghost came on them; where there was no hunger he moved on, and God wrought special miracles by his hands.
  • He lands on David's thirst in the wilderness - 'O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee' - recalls a thirteen-year-old who received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus' name thirteen days before she was killed, and leads the church in prayer for the sick and the bereaved.
  • The banked capture ends mid-sentence during this closing prayer (truncated capture); the cleaned layer ends where the verbatim ends.

Scriptures: John 16:24; Matthew 28:18-19; Mark 16:17; Luke 24:47; John 20:30-31; Acts 2:38; Acts 19:1-9; Acts 19:11; Psalm 63:1-4

I am not forgetting about prayer. We're just going to have prayer at the end of the service tonight. But I want to I want to minister this evening on the power in Jesus name. And um I have asked for the middle school and the high schoolers to stay in. Um, I think anytime pastors preaching on doctrine, that may just become the standard because I do want our youth group to understand doctrine. >> I want to I want them to understand why we emphasize one God and why we talk about the name of Jesus. Uh because there there's a reason there's there's a reason. And you know, it's really very simple. Um the things in scripture the things in scripture are really simple. They they really are. People say, "Well, the Bible's so hard to understand." It It's really not. It's really not. You just got to add hunger. Did you hear what I said? The Bible comes along comes alive when you begin to add hunger to it. >> Don't you want to know him tonight? >> Don't you want to know him? The Old Testament verse, Job cried out, "Oh, that I might know him. Oh that I might know him. And then John cried out, we have found him. And I'm tell you the Bible, please just understand the Bible's not a difficult book. >> It is if you're not hungry. >> If you're not hungry, it becomes very difficult, very frustrating, hard to read, and etc, etc. But if you get hungry to know God, every time this book is preached, you'll get a little closer and a little closer to him. Amen. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after, >> for there shall be what? >> King David said, "As the deer pants after the waterbrook, so pantth my soul after thee, oh God, I'm hungry. I'm hungry for him. And as a pastor, I'm hungry to go to another level in in God. The book of Luke, chapter number 10, verse number 17. Luke, chapter 10, verse number 17. It begins by this. And the 70 returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through what? >> Through thy name. He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this, rejoice not that the spirits are subject unto you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. And this is the verse I want I want us to glue to tonight. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, "I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and the prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight. He simply said this. He simply said this. This word is hidden to the prideful. This word is hidden from the prudent, the prideful, the know-it-all, the picky eater. The picky eater. This word is hidden. But if you're a a babe spiritually and you have a hunger, then he reveals it. Very simple. He reveals it. The power in Jesus name. Father, I want to be a good undersheperd. Lord, I want to feed your people tonight. Lord, I want to speak doctrine into the ears of our middle school and our high schoolers. God, I I desire God to see us grow in grace and in your knowledge, to see lives become affected by your word. Lord Jesus, touch us for the next few moments and help us simply to understand the power that is in your name. The power that is available in the name of Jesus. Amen. And amen. You may be seated. The second most powerful force on earth today. The second most powerful force on earth today. The first most powerful force on earth is God's spirit. That is the most powerful force on the earth today is God's spirit. The second most powerful force on the earth today is Satan's power. Satanic demonic power. But we know here tonight that the second most powerful force on the earth must become subject to the name of Jesus Christ. They came back. I read it in the text. Verse 17. The 70 returned again with joy. With joy saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. They found out very quickly when they used the name of Jesus that even the second most powerful force in the world had to bow down and had to submit. How many would like to see either in your own life or the life of a loved one? How many would like to see the evil influence upon their mind and life have to submit >> to the name of Jesus Christ? I believe that tonight. Interesting thing happened in Acts chapter 3 verse number one. Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer being the ninth hour. A certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried whom they lay daily at the gate of the temple which is called beautiful to ask alms of them that entered into the temple who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked and arms. Peter fastening his eyes upon him with John said. Everybody say said little words are going to bring a lot of light. All right. Um said look on us. And he gave heed unto them. Peter and John expecting to receive something of them. Verse six. Could we all read the first three words of that verse? >> Then Peter He didn't think it, did he? >> He said, "Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Rise up and walk." There is power. There is power when we speak his name over situations that need a miracle. Anybody been in that shape tonight? Not just to think that his name is good. You have to speak that his name is good. He said in the name of Jesus Christ. And of course the man leaped up and was healed by the name of Jesus Christ. He was healed and uh went leaping and walking into the temple with Peter and John. And not everybody was excited, Sister Wells, not everybody was excited that this man was healed. As a matter of fact, the religion that held the monopoly over the people have now two unlearned fishermen that have done what they could not do. They can give him arms, but they couldn't heal him. And so the religious the religious, they summoned Peter and John and we kind of going to weave our way through. Let's look at verse 16 of the same chapter. Acts 3 and 16. Peter's explaining to them and he says and his name through faith in his name. You see it it's just not the sound Jesus. It's just not saying Jesus. There is no power in just the sound Jesus. But when you put faith to the name of Jesus >> that you believe that when you say that name that you are saying the name of the eternal God creator of heaven and earth. He said to the religious rulers, "And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom you see and know, yay, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence in the presence of you all." Now, you would think that they could just simply say, "Hey, faith in the name of the resurrected Jesus." Faith in the name, faith connector between earth and heaven. Faith in the name of Jesus is what produced this miracle here. You would you would think that that would that answer that would have that would have answered it, but it it didn't. Turn with me to Acts chapter 4 verse number 7. It's the same group of people that he's talking to. Acts chapter 4 verse number 7. They got a hold of Peter and John and it says, "And when they had set them in the midst," so they got them and they put them in the midst of their counsel. They asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?" They said, "We want to know by what power." There's actually two two parts here. We want to know by what what power or by what name? Now, I love how Peter answers. He doesn't answer through the power. He answers through the name. Because the power is in the name. I said the power. Now, I told you it's it's simplistic, but I'm going to tell you, it's going to help us when we get in situations that we need to be connected to God quick to have faith in that name. He says, he says, he goes down to verse number 12 because he's going to answer, he's going to answer their question. By what power or by what name have you done this? Verse 12. Listen to Peter. Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Did you hear what Peter said? It is unique. It is one of a kind. There is no comparison. It is unique. It's one of a kind. There's no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Unique. one of a kind. No other name. I'm so thankful tonight to know the uniqueness of that name and know the value of the name. >> I'm glad this evening that when we pray, we don't pray and say a statement like in Christ's name we pray. Christ's name is the name. >> The name is Jesus. >> He is the Lord, the creator, Jehovah, Jesus, our redeemer, and he is the Christ, the anointed one. But his name is Jesus. I'll read this a little bit later. But the angel told Joseph, "And you shall call his name Jesus." Didn't say you're going to call his name Christ. Didn't say you're going to call his name the one upstairs. Said you're going to call his name Jesus because it's one of a kind. It's unique. Well, you would think that they would have all been converted. You would think that they would have said, "If it's the only saving name, let me be converted." But that didn't happen. Go down to verse 17 with me. Acts chapter 4, verse number 17. They didn't like what was happening. And they held a little secret council. And here's what they said in the council. They said, "But that it spread no further among the people. We don't want this to spread." I'm going to tell you, if the devil doesn't want something to spread, it's the name of Jesus. He doesn't want the name of Jesus in people that know about that name. He doesn't want them in the correctional centers of our city. He doesn't want the name of Jesus in the hospital wards. He He doesn't want the name of Jesus in counseling sessions where there's troubled people and marriages that need to be put back together. But aren't you thankful that I told you that Satan's power is the second most powerful force on the earth? But the first powerful force on the earth is God's power. And we're connected to that power by the mighty name of Jesus. Come on, first apostolic. Don't be afraid to use it. Don't think like you've graduated out of the simplicity of his name. I love to talk about Jehovah Gyra. I love to talk about Jehovah Ni. I love to talk about Jehovah Sisanu, but get up today. Those were Old Testament revelations, but the full revelation is the name of Jesus. Would you say it with me right now? Jesus. Oh, Jesus. Said the carpenter. Here's what they said. They said, but that it spread no further among the people. Let us straightly threaten them that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. You notice I didn't say let's tell them not to do any more miracles. The devil's not afraid of miracles. He just don't want the name attached to the miracle. >> He's not afraid. He said they didn't say hey stop doing any more miracles. They said just don't don't do it. Don't do it in that name. But let's watch what happened. Verse 18. They called them together. And I'm going to read 19. I don't have it in my notes, but if you'll take us right into 19 after I read verse 18. And they called them, Peter and John, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach. Finish it for me. >> What are they afraid of? >> They're afraid of something. >> Don't teach anymore in the name of Jesus. Give me verse 19, please. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God judge ye. That's a real sleek way of saying we're not going to stop preaching his name. Why? Because it's right in the sight of God to preach the name of Jesus Christ. It's right in God's sight to preach that name. It's an interesting thing in Proverbs and I think we can take a lot of the Old Testament and certainly add it to the value of the name. Proverbs chapter 22 and verse number one. Would you look at this with me? A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches and loving favor rather than silver and gold. A good name. A good name. What is the price of salvation? What is the price of salvation? Well, I can tell you the price of a bad deal to change to to to trade your soul to trade your soul to the devil. If you would trade your soul to the devil and the devil would say, "I'll give you all the gold in Fort Knox. I'll give you all the value of the real estate." I I'm sure somebody could come up with this. Some AI. The value of all the real estate in the world. What about that? All the gold, all the wealth, all the money. If you would sell your soul to the devil and he would give you all of that wealth, the simple question is, what has it profited him? So, what's the value of a name that can keep you out of hell? What is the value of the name that can put salvation in your spirit? Put the joy of the Lord inside of your heart, make you feel like treasure rather than trash? What's the price tag? What what school, what training could you go to that the name of Jesus can turn your life around? put joy on the inside, turn your life around, give you a purpose for living, cause happiness and joy, and you begin to look at the fruits of living for God. You begin to look at the fruits in your life, and you're no longer living with regret that you've wasted your life. You've wasted your money. You've wasted all this, but you begin to live in praise. What a wonderful change has come over my life since Jesus came into my life. But can I tell you something tonight, church? The best is yet to come. He said, "I come that you might have life." I believe that's referring to life here. Live living for God is a far greater life than living for the devil. >> Living righteous and living up to the commandments of God is a far better life than living for the devil. But you see, the best is yet to come because he said, "I've come that you might have life and might have it more more abundantly." might have it more abundantly. What's that meaning? That means that we're still under the curse in our body. Our spirits have been redeemed at Pentecost, but our bodies are still under the sin curse. We're aging and we're dying and we're having funeral after funeral after funeral. It's just part of that that curse. But you see, you can die if you die in Jesus. If you die in him, listen to me, saint of God. If you die in him, you die in the faith. They pretty you up. The mortician does a good job. I know I know a lot of I know a lot of churches that are like spiritual uh morticians. Morticians are good at making dead people look good. And and I've seen some churches that are good at making dead people look good, but they're going to make you look good and and and and all that, but as time goes on and you decompose and you go back to that simple element of which you were created from, you go back to the dust. That's not the end of your life. As a matter of fact, if you die in Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. But even even that even that one day, God is going to allow that spirit to come back and to reenter that body. Just like God's spirit reentered that tomb and raised Christ from the dead, God is going to allow that spirit to reenter that body. That body is going to be changed in a moment, in a twinkle of an eye. Mortal will put on immortality. You will have a body liken to his. You You see, when Jesus rose again from the dead, he wasn't just brought back to life after he lived. No, no, no, no. He was immortal. It was a brand new body. He was the first fruits. It was a body that would never die. It was a body that will live out through eternity. So, look at the good news tonight. Not only do I get to enjoy the benefits of living for God down here on this earth, when I die, there'll be a resurrection of this body, and one day in a place called heaven, a place that I cannot comprehend. One day in a place called heaven. Well, excuse me, but I got off my notes just a little bit. Let me go back over here. A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches. What's the price for joy? What's the price for happiness? What price would you put on it? I've shared with you this story on many occasions here. Maybe to the new people it will bless you. But it was um it was one of the Rockefellers that owned a large um factory and a newspaper reporter came out to interview him. his factory, his nice office was up elevated over the fl factory floor and you could look out the window and see the workers down there working. And newspaper reporter said, "Uh, is there anybody I is there anybody that you envy? Is there you're the you're one of most wealthiest men, Rockefeller? You're one of the most wealthiest men in all the world. Is there anybody you you you envy?" And he said, 'Yeah, come here and see.' And he pointed to a a worker on the floor. Said, "See that man behind that machine there?" And said, "Uh I envy him." He said, "You envy him? He's a common laborer." Said, "No." I said, "Every day at noon." Said, "His wife will dry up drive up and she's got a little tablecloth and a basket and they'll go sit out there under the tree. She'll feed him lunch and they will laugh and kiss and go about their life." and said that's his wife and said uh I have had multiple marriages in my life none of them have ever brought me any joy and I've gone from one marriage to another to another to another isn't it wonderful tonight to know that even if you would find yourself sitting here tonight in that same shape that you through the name of Jesus Christ can look back and say I didn't have the name of Jesus in my life but now I have the lifechanging power of the name of Jesus. Satan wants me miserable. Satan wants me to commit suicide. Satan wants me to become a drug addict and an alcoholic. Satan wants to put me in an early grave so that I'll join him in hell one day. But Jesus comes along and says, "No, no, no, no. That's not how it's going to work. I'm going to give them a name that is above every name. And that name is going to change. Can we give him praise right now, church? Come on. If you're glad for that name, would you raise your hands in the presence of God? Would you raise your hands right now? The presence of God. Somebody say his name. >> Proverbs 18 and 10. Proverbs 18 and 10. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous runth into it and is saved. Even Even the book of Proverbs is telling you the name has a great price. Even the book of Proverbs is telling you a strong tower was where you put your defense. It was where they hung the weapons, the shields, the swords. It's where the town's people kept their weaponry at was in the tower. And so when the writer said the name of the Lord is a strong tower, he was saying that's where our weapons are at. Think about that. A devil that wants us miserable, a devil that wants us miserable in our A devil that has no greater joy than to mess up your day in your life. But the Bible says the name of the Lord is like a strong tower. Say that name often, church. If you want to live for God, live for God successfully. Every time you come up against a hard issue in your life, say that name. >> I I I wonder I I I wonder how transparent we all could be tonight. But when you don't feel like you could put one foot in front of the other, you've got so much pressure on you, kids not doing right, life not doing right, and you just don't know how you're going to take another step. I got good news for you right now. Say the name of Jesus. >> Speak out that name of Jesus. When when you don't know what to do, say the name of Jesus. When when when you feel like you can't take another step and life is full of misery, woe, and vexation, church, I'm preaching to you, say the name of Jesus. It's nothing new. The name The name was nothing new in the Old Testament. The name of the Lord is chosen rather than riches. And the name of the Lord is a strong tower. Cain kills his own brother. How's that for running in the family? One brother kills another. There's a replacement for for for for Abel. Cain kills his own brother, Abel. Think about that. Think about that. Think about that for a moment. Adam and Eve become the parents of the first murdered son. But Adam and Eve also become the parents of the first murder. Right? They become those parents. What could fix that? Well, the Bible says in Genesis 4 and verse number 26, look at this. And to Seth, that's a substitute for Abel. To him also there was born a son. They called his name Enos. Look what began to happen. Fix your eyes on the screen or your Bible. Then began men to do what? >> Man, what a reputation. We are the parents of the first murdered son. We are the parents of the first murderer. What a reputation. What a bad reputation. But brother lost tonight. Can I preach to everybody here and tell you your family may have a bad reputation like my family does, but there's no bad reputation that can stand up against the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Enoch said, "You know what? You know what? My my my my grandparents are the par they're the they're the first they they they hold the record. They they've got the first murdered son and the first murder. But that that Enoch stepped out there and said, "I think I know what'll cure it." And I know I don't think I know what a cure every life, every bad reputation under the sound of my voice tonight, whether you're in this room or you're watching online, you listen to this preacher here this evening. The name of Jesus can clean up your reputation. The name of Jesus, the mighty name of Jesus, the well where you say, "I'm known for this and I'm known for that." Become known for saying the name of Jesus. Become known for singing and saying that wonderful, precious name of Jesus. No secret. There's no secret. They didn't come up with a name in the New Testament. Proverbs spoke of his name. Enoch spoke of his name. 1st Samuel 17 verse number 45. David is running out to face Goliath with a slingshot. With a slingshot. Goliath has over 200 pounds of armor on him. David is a youth. Goliath is a man of war from his youth. Does it look fair? And can I tell you it wasn't fair. It was not a fair fight. and I'll show you. Verse 45. Then said David to the Philistine, thou comest to me with a sword and spear and with a shield. But I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts. That's why it's not fair. Them swords and shields, they were no match. They were no match for the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Satan would even admit that's not even fair. You brought the name. I wish you'd have kept your little slingshot in your hand and kept your mouth shut and you would have been the the feast of the birds. But when he stepped out there and he said, "You come to me with a shield and a sword and and all this, but I come to you in the name of the Lord, the God of Israel." Come on, church. Don't you know tonight, you don't have to have low living. You don't have to have low expectation. Your happiness is not coming out of a bottle. Your happiness is not coming out of a raise on your job. Your happiness is not coming out of a new wife or a new husband or brand new kids by Friday. Your happiness is going to come out of the name of Jesus Christ. That's where that's where your happiness that's where your happiness is coming from. Well, let's turn the corner here before it gets too late. Let's turn the corner here. The prophet Isaiah stammering about the Messiah that was to come. In Isaiah chapter 7 verse number 14, Isaiah prophesied, told about Jesus. Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel. But now, his name wasn't called in that because Emmanuel, let's get this corre correct. Emmanuel is not his name. His name is Jesus. But the name of Jesus would be called Emmanuel. Why is that? Because Emmanuel means God with us. So he got into talking about his his name. We're going to call his not not that his name is Emmanuel. His name was Jesus, but that name is called God with us. Well, let's go on down to Isaiah 9 and 6. Isaiah 9 and6 for unto us a child is born. Unto us a son is given. The government shall be upon his shoulder. Can can we keep going church? >> And his what? >> And his name shall be called wonderful. You know what that means, don't you? It means miracle. It means miracle. What's that? Wonderful means miracle. His name shall be called miracle, counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting father, and the prince of peace. His name would be called all of these things because Jesus is wonderful. Jesus is the best counselor. He is the mighty God. He is the everlasting father. And he is the prince of peace. Philippians chapter 2 verse number five. Philippians 2 and verse number five. again showing the power of the name of Jesus. Philippians 2 and5. Let this in mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God but made himself of no reputation took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men. Being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Look at verse nine. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, the man, and given him a name, which is what? I I've I've often I've often taught people that want to say that father's a name and son is a name and spirit, holy spirit or holy ghost is a name. I said, if they were names, and we know they are not, they are descriptive titles of one God. But if they were a name, if father was a name, son was a name, and holy spirit was a name. Jesus has been given a name which is above every name. Say, well, you don't know. You you don't know I'm named an excon. Can I talk to you about a name greater than excon? >> Well, I'm named I'm a I I'm I'm I'm named terminal with cancer. Can I tell you about a name that is above that name? I've been named this and I've been named that. It doesn't matter what you've been named. All that matters is you get a revelation tonight of the simplicity that's in the name of Jesus Christ and everything changes. Wherefore God has highly exalted him and given him given him a name that is above every name that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven, things in earth, things under the earth. Now what this means at the name of Jesus, angelic beings, angelic beings bow at the name of Jesus. At the name of Jesus, things in earth bow and give reverence. We have done it several times tonight in this room. We've gave honor to the name of Jesus. But I seem to like number three and things under the earth. Can I tell you demonic forces have to yield way to the name of Jesus Christ that every knee should bow of things in heaven, things in earth, and things under the earth. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Now, what's interesting about what I just read you is Isaiah prophesied this. Isaiah prophesied about every knee bowing and every tongue confessing because I'm going to tell you, there's coming a day when saint and sinner alike will bow the knee to Jesus Christ. There's coming a day when every atheist will bow the knee to Jesus Christ. You say, "Oh, they're going to be saved." No, they're not going to be saved. They're not going to be saved. They will just come to the recognition that Jesus Christ, the one they laughed at, the ones that they made fun of on their late night talk shows, the one that they scout scoffed at, the one that they ridiculed, the ones that they dedic they they donated millions of dollars to propagate uh atheism and to propagate ungodly lifestyles. All of those people that seem to have it all in line right now will one day have to give glory and honor to Jesus Christ. Isaiah 45 and verse number 22. Isaiah 45:22 says this. Look unto me. It's God speaking. Look unto me and be saved all the ends of the earth. For I am God and there is none else. I have sworn by myself. The word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not return. That unto me, every knee shall bow and every tongue swear or every tongue confess. I am so thankful tonight that somehow somebody got a hold of me and taught you and I the word of God in the name of Jesus Christ. We're not ignorant of that name. He is not a god among many gods. He is the only God. I am He and there is none other. I I am He that every knee would bow. Let me see if we can turn the corner and bring us to a time of prayer. The angel said to Joseph in Matthew 1:21, the angel said, "She shall bring forth a son, and thou, you shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins." Verse 25 of the same chapter. He knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son and he called his name Jesus. Be wonderful. I wish I had time to stand here and elaborate a little bit on what it must have been like when Joseph and Mary took Jesus into the temple for circumcision on the eighth day. And it was there at circumcision that the child was named. that when the priest looked at Joseph, Joseph spoke the word. His name, call him Jesus. I wonder in the spirit realm what the angels begin to do. Call his name Jesus. Well, you know his life, a life of miracles, signs, and wonders. But he said that he said to the disciples at the end of his life here on this earth in John chapter 16 verse 24 Jesus said hitherto have you asked nothing in my name. Ask and you shall receive that your joy may be full. He said you you've not asked anything to me. you you you've not talked to me and why would they use his name if he's there? He used it on the devils. We know that they took it to the devil and spoke to the devils in Jesus name. But he said up to this point you you you've not asked me anything in my name because I'm I'm I'm right here with you. But there's coming a time that I'm going to be missing from you. But I will leave you a connection. I will leave you the ability to get as much in my presence as you are right now. What is that? I'll leave you. I will leave you my name. I could tell you about the four books of the Bible. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The last words of Jesus, all have to do with his name. All have to do with his name. Matthew 28:18, Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, "All power is given unto me in heaven and earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost." Of course, we understand tonight, students, please. He wasn't saying, "Repeat after me." He wasn't saying, "Go and repeat these words." He said, "Go and baptize in the name of the Father and Son and Holy Ghost." Not name of the Father. Don't let anybody misquote that to you. Jesus did not say baptized in the name of the father, the name of the son and the name of the holy ghost. The name singular of the father and son and holy ghost. And that one name that is singular that one name is Jesus Christ. That's why we baptize only in the name of Jesus Christ. It would be it would be uh Mark that would mention it would be Mark that would mention in Mark chapter 16 and verse number let's just go down to verse 17. Mark 16:17 these signs shall follow them that believe. Can you say those next couple of word three words with me? What happens to believers? They speak. They go through life. He said, 'These signs shall follow them that believe in my name. They shall cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. It is all the product of in that name. We know in the gospel of Luke, the very last words of Christ before he he left this earth, he said in Luke 24:47, Jesus said, "And that repentance and remission of sins shall be preached in his name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem." John just ended his book by saying these words here. John ended by saying in John 20 and verse number 30, John ended it by saying, "And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples which are not written in this book, but these are you following me? But these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God, and that believing you might have life through his name." Please, let's never take this uh let's never take this uh just haphazardly. There's power in the name of Jesus. >> There's power in the name of Jesus. You might you might say, "Well, Bill Carpenter, you you've not told me anything tonight that I don't already know." Good. I hope I've reminded you tonight that when we get into life situations and things fall apart, say the name of Jesus. Speak the name of Jesus over that sickness. Speak the name of Jesus over that bondage. Speak the name of Jesus over that situation. Speak the name of Jesus over that. Acts chapter 2 and verse 38. The birth day of the church. The birth day of the church. Acts 2:36. Peter comes to the end of his message. He said, "Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made that same Jesus whom you have crucified both Lord and Christ." Now when they heard this, they were pricricked in their heart and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. students. They may even tell you that Peter disobeyed the Lord, that the Lord wanted baptism one way and they disobeyed the Lord. If that would be true, we need to throw our Bible away because it was those apostles that wrote many of the epistles that are in this book. So, if they become men of disobedience to God, who would know what to believe? We know that's absolutely nonsense. The disciples did not disobey what Jesus said. They fulfilled what Jesus said. If I would say tonight, if I would say to brother Denver Moses, if I would say, brother Denver Moses, I am thirsty. Would you bring me some water? If I said that to him, brother Denver Moses, I am thirsty. Would you bring me some water? Will you go out in the lobby, get me a cup of water? Would you bring it back in? And all of a sudden, Denver sits there and he says, "Brother Denver Moses, I am thirsty. Would you go out into the lobby and bring me a cup of water?" Has Denver done what I asked? No. He has repeated what I have asked. Jesus didn't say, "Repeat after me." He said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost." And every place in the New Testament, they were all baptized. Acts 2, Acts 8, Acts 10, Acts 19, they were all baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Students, I've asked you to stay in here tonight because I want you to get this inside of your head because this is what will build a strong life over you. because I am convinced that they've already come. But I am convinced that greater demonic spirits is going to fall upon our youth prior to Jesus coming back greater than ever before. And students here, pastor, tonight, the only way you're going to combat and overcome them is to know the value of the name of Jesus Christ and you speak that name. When that old creepy feeling comes over you and you feel like you have no reason for living, you feel like life has been unfair to you. You don't look like somebody else. You don't have what somebody else has. And a deep hole, a hot breath of despair speaks over you to end your life. You're going to remember a Wednesday night Bible study and you're going to begin to say, "Jesus, I love you, Jesus. I magnify you, Jesus." And all of a sudden, manifest in that room is going to be angelic spirits. And they're going to begin to tell the demonic spirits. They're going to begin to tell them, "Leave right now. Leave this person." And you're going to begin to worship and praise God and the joy. Sister Carpenter, would you bring me some water? If I'm if I if I've caught something, there's a lady behind me on the plane last night cough the whole time I was. But I was studying for this sermon. So maybe God will protect me in Jesus name. That's right. In Jesus name. That's right. Let's see. I'm I'm going to land this here. Um, Acts chapter 19 verse number one, Jesus. Acts chapter 19 verse number one. And it came to pass that while Apollos was at Corenth. Paul having passed through the upper coast came to Ephesus. Finding certain disciples, he said unto them, "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believe?" And they said, "We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." He said unto them, unto what then were you baptized? How were you baptized? They said unto John's baptism then said Paul John verely baptized with baptism of repentance saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this when they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Paul laid his hands upon them and the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied and all the men were about 12. Boy, wouldn't you love home every home Bible study teacher in here? Wouldn't you love home Bible studies like that right there? >> What about brother Perry? Wouldn't you love them? Wouldn't you love those kind of home Bible studies? Well, they happen. You know why they happen? Hunger. >> Hunger has nothing to do Has absolutely nothing to do with who's preaching. has nothing to do. It has nothing to do well I I just I just can't relate to Bill Carpenter. Uh you you you know you know and and I and I get it. I I I I I I get it. We can get in our mind that you know I more identify with the younger preacher. Well, I get that. But I don't get that because you shouldn't identify with a style. >> Jesus didn't use a style to drive away Satan. >> He used the word of God. >> So So I get it. I don't know all the cool things when I try to be cool. I I'm I'm probably about 20 years behind. Uh you know, you're you're everything in a bag of chips. I I you're rad and you're mad and all that. I I get all that. But I'm not going to be like some of these guys that are 65 that want to dress like they're 22. All right? I mean, their shoes and face don't match. All right? And God knows it ought against it ought to be against the law for them to pour themselves in them skinny jeans. That's all I'm saying. I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm going to go on. All right. I'm going to go on. But you don't need to get in love with a style. You need to get in love with the word. >> You need to get in love with something that heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word will never pass away. It was good for your grandparents. It'll be good for you. And when you become grandparents one day, hunger. I wish somebody say hunger. Hunger has nothing to do with has nothing to do with style. Has nothing to do with style. It has to do with hunger. He goes, "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believe?" We ain't heard anything about the Holy. How are you baptized in John? You need to get rebaptized in Jesus name. They get rebaptized in Jesus name. Come out of water. All 12 of them get the Holy Ghost hunger. Did I end at verse seven? Is that where I ended? Right. But can we go to verse seven? All 12 of them come up out of the water speaking in tongues. They they they get the Holy Ghost. He lays on their hand, they get the Holy Ghost. Verse eight, wouldn't you like to go to verse eight? Paul went into the synagogue, spake boldly for the spakes of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. Now, now he's here three month, brother Ericson. Three months. It didn't hardly take him three minutes. I mean, how fast you go? Have you received the Holy Ghost? Did you believe three minutes? He's there three months. But when divers, that's many, were hardened and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one, Tyrannus. Now, he spends three months at a place there's no hunger. There's no hunger for the word of God. And guess what you see absent there? There's no hunger. There's no baptism. There's no hunger. There's no outpouring of the spirit. And then Paul said, "All right, we've stayed here long enough, disciples. We need to go somewhere else." Just like you need to have friends that have the same hunger for God that you have. And I'm not just talking to our to our middle schooler and our high schoolers tonight. I'm talking to all of everybody in this room tonight. You need to get friends that talk about a good time at prayer. You need to have friends that say, "Hey, man. I was praying the other day and God came down." You don't need to have f. Listen, if you can't talk spiritual around your friends, you need to get you a new set of friends cuz you got the wrong friends. Paul said, "We've stayed here long enough. We've been here three months." He said, "Come on, let's let's go to this other side over here. Let's go to the other side." But he's not through. Verse 11, God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul, so that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out from them. I'm going to tell you something. It's all where you're at. Got a lot of hunger for God, you'll feel a lot of God. Don't have any hunger for God, this will be the longest hour and a half you spend. That's right. No, no, honey. You You listen, your form of worship won't be this. It'll be this. I'm tell I'm teaching so good tonight. There's some that are listening to me and there's some that have kept their head bowed the whole service and the holy glow from your glasses are amazing. All right. There there there's that holy glow because this is the longest time. You'd rather search the web, surf the web. You'd rather do all but can I tell you you're missing out on it tonight because when the devil pulls a noose around your neck, you're not going to have any word to fight him with. You're not going to have any word. There's going to be some here tonight that are going to say, "I'm going to tell you, bring on the handkerchief. Bring on the aprons." Because God will be He'll be just as powerful in our altar service as he will be in our home. Let me close tonight. You stand with me. Let me close. Are you hungry for more, church? >> Come on. Are you hungry for more? >> I'm asking, are you hungry for more tonight? I keep asking, are you hungry for more? Do you have any hunger? Do you have any more hunger for God? Do you want to go to another level with God? Are are you are are you wanting to see your prayers answered? Are are are you wanting to see some things happen in your life? Are you are you wanting to get your joy back? Are you wanting to get your peace back? Are are you wanting to get your burden back? Are you hungry tonight? Are you hungry? Are you hungry? I end with this psalm tonight. Psalm 63 and1. Are you hungry? Are you hungry tonight, church? I'm hungry for more. I tell you, I'm hungry for more of it. >> I'm praying for something right now. I'm praying for something right now. I don't even know what I'm praying for. I honest God, what's it sound like? Give us some more glory, God. >> I'm praying things right now. May, Brother May, I don't even know what I'm praying for, but I just know there's more out there. I just I'm I'm just I just know there's more. I just know there's more. I I think there's another level God wants to take all of us to, but he's not going to take it if you're if you're a picky eater. If you Well, I'm really satisfied and I I really don't have any desire. I think about God when it's Wednesday night or Sunday morning or Sunday night. No, it can't happen that way. It's got to be 3:00 a.m. in the morning. You find yourself getting up saying, "God, I I'm asking you for something I don't even know. I just want glory, God. I'm not talking about a personal glory. I'm talking about a glory of God that is so thick in this room that sinners are converted that people don't lose out with God. I'm I'm talking about a hunger. Are you hungry? Are you hungry? >> Are you hungry? Psalm 63 and verse number one, the Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah. Oh God, thou art my God. Early will I seek thee. My soul thirsteth for thee. My flesh longeth for thee. In a dry and thirsty land where there where no water is to what are you thirsty for, David? What do you want to see, David? To see thy power and thy glory. Soaz, I have seen thee in the sanctuary. David looks back and he doesn't explain away the days of old. When we seem to have more miracles and more of the moving of God and more of conversions, David doesn't look at it and say, "Well, that's back then and this is now." David gets so hungry that he cries out and says, "God, what I saw years ago, bring it back right now. Bring it back. God, give us a book of Acts. God, give us a book of Acts. God, the book of Acts said a great number of the priests were obedient to the faith. God, give us glory to where men in these pullpits in Blunt County that are good men morally, but they're bound up by tradition. God, that it'll break the chains and they'll see this great truth of God's word. Oh, God. I'm hungry in our school. You hear me tonight? ACA stu ACA teachers. I'm hungry for some more kos to come in. I'm hungry for some more kanos to come in. You hear me? I'm hungry for some more Whitney Amburns and Jason Amburns to come in. You see, the same God that brought them in years ago when the school started is the same God that wants to do it again and again and again and again and again. And if it's not happening, there's only one reason it's not happening, and that is a hunger to see people's lives that are changed. I want to see that power. I want to see that power. To see thy power and thy glory. So as I have seen thee in the sanctuary, because of thy loving kindness is better than life, and my lips shall praise thee, thus will I bless thee while I live. I will lift up my hands in thy name. We got some things to pray about tonight. You know, I really think, Brother Wales, I really think I got more faith right now to have prayer time than I would have had before I preached tonight. I I I think I've got more faith right now about the name of Jesus than I would have had been. What better time than to tell this church that our brother Dan Terrell is at UT hospital serious condition ICU and uh they can't explain why his his his uh breathing his his uh airways are clogging up. They got him in they got him in uh brother Pastor Eri you went to see him today. They that that have they got him they got him traded. It's a man that sat right over here worship God. Don't Don't you think God would want to heal him tonight? Don't you think God would want to touch him right now tonight? How many remember years ago? How many was going here, Sister Hannah, when on a Saturday morning we got a call? Sister Carpenter had the call, had her speaker phone on. It was was Ronnie Johnson. He said, "Pray." He said, "Get Brother Carpenter praying." He said, "[name redacted], Karen and [name redacted] were walking out here and said, "A truck hit him." A truck hit him. He said, "We can't find we can't find [name redacted]." [name redacted] was 13 years old. But I tell you a beautiful story. [name redacted] had never made She's 13 years old. Never made a move for God. Never made a move for God. We begin to pray and have no child left behind revival. Remember that 13 days before [name redacted] was killed, she came up to the altar, received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus' name. Went from sitting in the back row, disconnected from the church to being one of the worshippers and praisers on the front row of the church. I remember it devastated us. It devastated us. I I remember in shock as I heard Ronnie saying, "We're looking for her. We can't find [name redacted]." And then he found her. He found her. She would die a few hours later, but the truck had hit her. And but you know something, what we go through can help others because last evening at brother Sean Garnett's church, the Ambrose family, they've been here. They've been here to our church. He said, "Would I be wrong?" He said, "I have no energy, pastor." He said, "I am mentally drained." He said, "I've never had to hold a baby in my arms that have been hit by a truck and try to console two parents." He said, "I am physically and I'm emotionally drained, pastor." He said, "You would would I have your permission to?" He said, "We're just going to we're just going to put a a banner up tonight saying we're not online." And he said, "You think it'd be all right if we just had a prayer meeting? I think it'd be all right." That's exactly what we did. Our kids don't need to have in their mind that their early memories of going to church was playing on the playground. They go to school or daycare here, they can play on that playground a lot of hours. >> It'd be a lot better to take them to the prayer room, let their early memories be praying. All right. >> All right. I said, "Bro, Carmen, I think you're getting that Sunday spirit back on you." I probably am. All right. >> But but that's that's the truth. I've even I've even asked we're asking or and I'm asking parents first. Parents, please during church, know where your children at. Even your teenage children. >> All right? Know where they're at. Know what they're doing. Know know what they're know if they're involved. No, if they're on their phone or whatever. And I'm gonna first ask you parents to help me. They don't need to be nobody needs to be on your phone during church. >> You don't you don't you don't unless you're in some kind of medical. You're Well, well, brother Carpenter, I've looked down seen you on your phone. I promise you if you see me on my phone, we're communicating with lights or sound or air or something. It's not a it's not, "Hey, brother Tony, what are you doing tonight?" You know, >> it's it's so so I'm asking the parents, help us. And if if I can't get this because it's kind of an epidemic and if I can't get it if I can't get it through you parents, then I'm gonna I'm gonna start having our uh our our our security team. They're going to start kind of helping me because first off, you're distracting yourself. And if you're around anybody else, you're distracting them. And God help if we're around some guests. I don't want that to be a testimony. All right. >> All right. So now I please don't connect the when I said watch your kids, I wouldn't wasn't talking about the Ambrose family. Yeah. I talked to him today and his wife and and we'll be going to the funeral. I think it's going to be sometime next week. But but but but they're devastated. Their their their world their world is their world is devastated right now. There there are no words. There are no words that we can speak to him. But but I think if we could just lift up a prayer for him right now. Could we have one united prayer for the Ambrose family right now? God Jesus, continue to touch Keith Ambrose. God continue to
