Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Solomon — and then Jedediah (2 Samuel 12:22-25)
- After a year of double life — adultery covered up, a child dead — David worships in the house of God, comforts Bathsheba, and names their new son Solomon: peace, named out of his own repentance.
- A reproach allowed to grow larger than repentance keeps a life in turmoil; David lives openly now, no longer looking over his shoulder, keeping his repentance larger than his reproach.
- Nathan comes a second time — not to confront sin, but on an errand: the child is not to live under the shadow of his parents' past, and God names him Jedediah, loved by God.
- Whatever is dug up about your life, your mama, your daddy, one statement trumps it all: God loves me.
Scriptures: 2 Samuel 12:22-25
God renames for destiny (Ruth 1:19-20)
- God calls Abram by the name of what he will be — Abraham, a father of a multitude, when he has no offspring at all — and turns his wife into Sarah, a queen without a kingdom: he gives the name to fit the destiny.
- Naomi — whose name means delight — comes back emptied to Bethlehem and asks to be called by a name that means bitter; but searching Scripture, no one ever calls her by the name she chose for herself.
- On the way into your future there will always be voices questioning who you are; do not let them, or your own losses, do the naming.
Scriptures: Ruth 1:19-20
Simon, called Peter (John 1:42)
- Jesus beholds Simon, names his father, and then names his future: thou shalt be called Cephas — a stone.
- After the denial and a night of weeping and praying, the risen Lord sends word to 'my disciples and Peter' — he said your name — and at the shore restores him with 'feed my sheep.'
- The fullest assurance came in the upper room, when he was filled with the Holy Ghost with the hundred and twenty.
- The banked capture ends inside this closing movement, mid-sentence; the sermon's final words are not in the capture.
Scriptures: John 1:42

second samuel chapter 12 verse number 22 and let me say that this scripture reading is in the middle of conversation that David and Bathsheba are having with someone because they have just buried their child and the Bible said and David said while the child was yet alive I fasted and wept for I said who can tell whether God will be gracious to me that the child mania but now he is dead wherefore should I fast can I bring him back again I shall go to him that he shall not return to me and David comforted Bathsheba his wife and went in unto her and laid with her she bear a son and David he called his name saleh and the Lord lucky and he the Lord sent by the hand of nathan the prophet and called his name Jedediah because of the Lord you may be seeing this is a most interesting passage of Scripture the Bible is a book of tell off the Bible is a book in which if you have been granted the privilege of being named God exercises that all shall be told all is told about David in the Bible all is told about him killing Goliath all is told about him loving God's house but all is also told about him allowing his flesh to take control of his mind committing adultery and then murder for one year David lived a double life for one year he had covered up his sins he had married Bathsheba and for one year he was living a double life I believe that this was probably the longest most miserable year of David's life I believe he went to the temple I believe you remain faithful and giving faithlyn worship but you can't tell me and convince me otherwise that he was not a most miserable man but God loved him and God sent the Prophet his prophet is pastor and when the pastor got through preaching David was on his face confessing child died that had been born the child died and the Bible says that after the baby the child and the year of a double life after the child died that David that David comforted Bathsheba his wife now I really believe that after the child died the Bible said that David went to the house of God and worship I believe that David really prayed through there he had lived a year of double life he had been a fake you'd been a phony had put a good show on but now everything's in the open everyone knows what I and that Shiva what we have done but we go to the house of God and there we worship God and then we get on with life we get on with life because that's what you do after you feel as you get on with life and so he enters into the relationship with Bathsheba and another son is born and David decides I'm going to name him it probably happened at the eighth day of circumcision but David pondering what will I name this child I will name this child what I now feel inside of my soul I will name this child peace I will name him Solomon peace because after all a year of a double life a year losing a child a year of having everyone know that I am NOT the man that you thought that I was a year of being troubled now God has given repentance and now Solomon or David lives with the reproach but he also lives with forgiveness and anytime that our approach becomes larger than our forgiveness we are going to live in turmoil but i must keep my repentance larger than my reproach you see there there there there is no controlling what people will say there's no controlling what people will tell you cannot live your life trying to hush every mouth that knows all about your life so David just enters the N and he says look it's out in the open I wasn't the man that you thought I was and I've repented and God has placed his hand back up on my life and now it's out in the open I don't have to look over my shoulder any longer I don't have to wonder when this group of people is going to find out I am now living my life with peace I'm so thankful that I have peace now peace comes when you when you fall and you repent God wants to give you peace that's right and so David names this child I just want you to stay with me for a moment but David names this child in reference to his mistake he names this child because after all I'm telling you word is going to get out when Solomon becomes old enough some halfbacks lid hypocrite gossip did I make it plain enough some no lifer that doesn't have anything better to do than to dig up old bones is going to tell Solomon you're not your mom and daddys first oh no you know that Cemetery your mom and dad go to sometimes and cry that's where your older brother is late because your mom and daddy got together when they should have been together come on now y'all know this preacher is preaching you the truth this morning and so somebody's going to tell Solomon somebody is going to let Solomon know the facts of his dad the facts of his mom and the fact that they have his older brother that's in a grave they can let him know all of these things and guess what I'm thankful that God knows that there's going to be a half back slid no holy backs if not wholly is holy holy but I mean all together baxley a gossiper that has nothing better to do than to go around and tell you what you were named after you renamed peace because her mom and dad your mom and dad committed adultery in your name peace because you're dead trade back through the temple you that's why your name in other words somebody's going to be there to tell Solomon why he was named what he was named but not knows that too and so unannounced the Prophet Nathan steps into the room and on announce the Prophet says David I'm here to see you again unlike the last time when I confronted you with your sin I'm not here to confront you with your sin today I'm here to tell you God sent me on an errand well what is it Nathan come on in and preach to us what I need you to go get Solomon would you get Solomon I don't know how old Solomon was but he when he got Solomon he said he'd get my Sheba to it and he says the Lord has sent me here on an area because i am sit here I know you named him in reference to your past but your son shouldn't have to live his life under the shadow of your past your son shouldn't live his life based on your mistakes people shouldn't judge your son people shouldn't look your son when they think about peace they're going to think about your back sliding in your adultery and your murder and so the Lord has sent me here today and we're going to name this child Jedediah and Jenna diamonds I am loved by God and in the midst of whatever will be told on you if you can spare your shoulders back and open your heart up and say that's true about my daddy but my lord loves us that's true what happened but my god loves me can I tell you that the Bible says that love can quit many waters can I tell you that love that can i tell you that the fire of love cannot be quenched by many waters cannot tell you there's no powerful force today like the love of god bring me the truth about my life bring me the dirt about my mama bring me the dirt about my daddy bring me the dirt about my papaw I'll trump everything you can bring with one simple statement God loves me God loves me Oh can't you see him riding the bus to school the chariot to school the extended cherry at the school and somebody's saying oh I know about you daddy oh I know about your mama and can't you see old Solomon saying you know something I got something you don't have oh it's it he said you were named once for your parents but I've been named twice once by my parents in the second time by God you don't have that you've only been named once I got something on your naming me peace because what my daddy did in my mama but God named me Jedediah because he loves me so very much oh the power of a name change God did that God be that God is into changing names he took a man by the name of Abram and the word Abram means exalted father and he changed his name to Abraham which means a multitude he took a woman by the name of Siri I which means princess and turned her into Sarah which means Queen see God's into changing names you see he takes what you were and he calls you by what you're going to be an incident just as Bible reference here he called Abram Abraham a father of a multitude when he didn't have one single off-screen he called Sarah a queen when she never had a kingdom so God gives us the name to fit our destiny he gives us the name to fit what we're walking into you see you'll never walk into a future if you keep your own name if you keep your own nature and your own name and the way that things have always been then you'll never walk into your future but let God call you not Solomon but Jedediah and let God call you not Abram but Abraham you see in Ruth chapter 1 verse 19 this is brought out so clearly roof as backs that are not rude but naomi has baxley had her and her husband or two sons they go down to Moab and their her husband and two sons died and Naomi whose name means whose name means delight her name means delight Naomi she hears so in verse 19 it says so they too went until they came to Bethlehem so Naomi and Ruth are making their way back to Bethlehem and Bethlehem means House of bread so now Ruth and Naomi Naomi means delight is going back to Bethlehem which means House of bread and so now Naomi July is headed back the house of red which means house of God and as she heads in the house of God there was somebody there we don't know who it was but they made a most a most discouraging remark to her seeing had warned her seeing had taken her husband and her two sons CN had taken the sparkle out of her eyes seeing had taken the sheen off of her face seeing had really done a number on Naomi but somebody somebody said is this naomi is this delight is this that one that that's delight and Naomi said she said wait a minute she said don't call me Naomi don't call me the light call me my rock which means hitter now here's what happens to us when we begin to walk into our future the house of bread or Bethlehem there's always going to be people that question you along the way what are you here for what are you doing here what are you after head are you really Naomi and you know what he got into her psyche a little bit and she said you know you're right no one ought to call me to lie anymore no one ought to call me delight I shouldn't be called the light I shouldn't be called pleasant to call me Maura which means bitter but God says you're not entering the house of bread with the wrong name searching throughout your Bibles you'll never find one face in holy scripture where they ever referred to my toe to Naomi azamara it was what she said about herself nobody ever called her that and it's only mentioned one time brothers and sisters today some of you need to head into a new year and lose your own name and pick up a new name some of you needed Assad right now I'm tired of being known by this I'm tired of being known by April and Syria I don't want to be known as Solomon any longer I no longer want to be known for the past mistakes mama I just believe that God I believe God's got some young person listening to meet up today that said you know why I've been set behind in life it seems like i got a handicap it seems like i was born in the last right name i wasn't born in the right family I've never even seen my daddy I've never even heard ever seen my mother I am setback I'm having to work down here and make a living to put food on my table while other young people are experiencing the joys of heaven parents can I tell you that God moves to tell you you're not Solomon a your Jedediah I can take you and I can move on I want to preach some faith into some youth here this morning and tell you don't you look back on your parents mistake and think that's going to flavor and stain your life you see Jesus in John chapter 1 and verse number 30 40 to the Bible said a man was brought to Jesus by the name of Simon and in chapter 1 verse 42 of st. John said and he brought him Simon to Jesus and when Jesus beheld him Simon he said thou art silent son of Jonah or John notice that he said I know who you are and I know who your daddy is but thou shalt be called Cephas which being interpreted is a stone Peter pepper Peter I'm silent no I'm not i am simon peter i'm solomon no i'm not i am solomon Jedediah that's who I am I'm not just silent i'm simon people can you imagine with me as i closed today can you imagine with me Peter wasn't lying when he told the Lord I won't leave you not me these other guys on the platform these other men they'll probably fall off the bandwagon but not me what do you think happened that third time when the crop crew and Peter had said I don't know him well I know what he did the scripture tells me what he did he spent the night weeping praying you know there's comfort that comes there's comfort that comes from praying and weeping I imagine that there was a little bit of pressure I imagine that there was a little bit of something to hit his spirit after he spent a night of weeping and asking God forgive me forgive me for you me but what about a few mornings later when a voice came through the city street he's alive he's alive he's alive I've seen objection knocking on doors Thomas Matthew wait a minute where's Peter had go with me as she knocks on that door at Peter's house since come on Peter the Lord wants to see you a minute wait a minute Mary wait a minute Mary did he say my name or did he just say all the disciples oh no Peter he said go tell my disciples and Peter you think a night you think a night of prayer did something to him what do you think did what happen to him when that woman said he specifically said your name or how about on the how about on the banks when Jesus said feed my sheep he said feed my sheep in front of everybody else I said that was a joy but I promise you the greatest thing that ever happened to him that let him know he was forgiven was when he and a hundred and twenty others gathered in an upper room and begin to call out on God and when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all in one place and one Accord and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all of the house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire you know what you thankful that it says and it's set up on each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit
