Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
We are the reason for the season
- The familiar saying is reversed: Jesus is not the reason for the season — we are; he did not come for his own sake but for ours.
- The Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
- God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son — the giving was measured by the need of the world he gave him to.
Scriptures: Mark 10:45; John 3:16
A child born, a Son given
- The prophet's word puts the gift in a cradle: unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given.
- The mind that was in Christ was a stooping mind — he took upon him the form of a servant; the season's reason came down to where we were.
Scriptures: Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-7
The light of the world
- In the eighth chapter of John, Jesus names himself the light of the world — the candlelight in the room pictures the light he brought into our darkness.
- The sermon closes on its thesis: we are that reason — let us praise him at this time.
Scriptures: John 8:12
Scripture index: Mark 10:45; John 3:16; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-7; John 8:12.

if you would stand with me I want to take just a few moments I want to take just a few moments tonight and I want to expose for a few moments I want to expose what I consider to be the biggest Christmas myth of all times it is commonly believed you will see all kinds of slogans that tell you this myth but it is the biggest Christmas myth that could ever be believed a myth is simply something that is widely held to be true a myth is something that is held and accepted to be true but actually it's false it's false the biggest Christmas myth of all times I want you to buckle up for this how many here's some somebody say Jesus is the reason that's the biggest myth that could ever be believed Jesus is not the reason for the season we are the reason for the season mark chapter 10 verse number 45 for even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many father tonight I thank you that we are the reason for this season I thank you tonight Lord and I pray for all of the needs that we have in this house I pray for brother Paul white that is traveling tonight to go to the funeral of a grandmother I pray for those tonight that at this festive time are heavy laden with all kind of emptiness regret and seemingly hopelessness father in the name of Jesus for the next few moments would you anoint your servant with the spirit of love and compassion that I would be able to inject in the hearts of people that we are the reason for this season in Jesus name we pray amen and amen you may be seated he's the reason for the season he is not the reason for the season lost humanity hopeless humanity struggling humanity is the true reason that God came to this earth as a savior robed in flesh as the song said Jesus said that at this season that he did not come to be ministered to he plainly said he didn't come for his name to be Harold but that he came that he might give his life a ransom a payment for many while one of the most popular verses in the Bible bears out this myth is not true John 3:16 for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son what did God give God gave his only begotten son what did God give it for God gave it for lost humanity such as you and I he is not the reason for the season we are the reason for the season the Old Testament prophet Isaiah in Isaiah chapter 9 and verse 6 catch it early now please catch it early please for unto us a child is born unto us a son is given I'm sorry but I I don't know who came up with the slogan Jesus is the reason for the season of course I understand why they have the slogan is because we can get caught so caught up in gift-giving and we can get so caught up in in all the different family socials that we can forget about that but let's not forget about it and accept something that is a myth that Jesus is the reason for the season when in actuality when we were lost hopelessly lost in our sin had not a name to help us had not a way to get out had not a way to be saved had not a way to be changed had not a way to be healed had not a way to get a prayer answered thank God he came to this earth and we are the reason for that season Philippians 2 and 5 let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God but made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form look at this not the form of a king to be worshipped because that's not the reason he came he had all the worship in heaven he's a matter of fact in eternity he had eternal worship that never stopped here on this earth we humans stop and start worship we started and stopped worship but in heaven the worship was eternal so he didn't come to this earth so we can worship Him he already had that he came to this earth because we were the reason for the season you and I we are the reason for the season the soul that is trapped in the treachery of sin can anybody relate to this the soul that has been trapped in the treachery of sin the defeated can I get a witness the defeated the destroyed the worst of sinners the man that has father's from God that's the real reason for the season and he came to seek and to save the reason you know the night the song that we're going to sing oh holy night this song really bears it out as a never before for the song goes something like this Oh Holy Night the stars are brightly shining it is the night of our dear saviors birth but listen to this long lay the world in sin and error pining till he appeared and the soul felt it's worth oh how dark it was before Jesus came oh how dead we were before Jesus came how hopeless we were I just think we ought to take just a moment just to praise Him right now because with without him we are hopelessly destined for defeat and failure come on all over this building thank you Jesus I'm unworthy god of the least of your blessings I can't even walk without you holding my hand thank you Jesus thank you Jesus thank you Lord come on and praise Him with me for a moment tonight Lord I Love You God there's no good in me there's nothing good in me God that you sought the only thing you saw in me that attracted you to me Lord was that I was hopeless God Lord and I key became the reason God for you to come thank you Lord thank you God till he appeared and the soul felt it's worth a thrill of Hope a thrill of hope the weary world rejoices for yonder breaks a new and glorious day fall on your knees o hear the angel's voices o night divine o night when Christ was born in a world void of hope no wonder the angel said for under you day is born in the City of David a savior which is Christ the Lord no wonder the angel said peace on earth goodwill toward men the reason the angel said peace on earth was that Rome was a hard dictating government of hard ways but when that babe was born in Bethlehem's manger peace on earth goodwill toward men I closed tonight closed tonight the very place in scripture that we understand that Jesus is the light of the world in just a moment brother Erickson the praise team will come back and we'll have for a few moments what's called the candlelight service where we'll hold up in the air a light and this light symbolizes that only Jesus gave us that hope only Jesus could do for us what needed to be done but do you know the scripture and the context the place that he said I am the light of the world was an ugly situation you see Jesus is able to look past people's actions because many people have ugly actions because quite honestly they were brought up in an ugly way now I'm not making excuses tonight and I'm not saying it's okay but you see God is able to see why that person does what they do and God is able to see why that young man or young lady or older man or older lady does what they do when sometimes we can only see the ugly act they commit God can see what led them to that ugly act it happened to the eighth chapter of the book of John some very judgmental people trying to eradicate Jesus trying to cause his influence to die they came up with a situation to where they caught a woman in a very ugly act and when they caught this woman in this very ugly act they brought this woman to Jesus and they said Jesus the law says that if a person is caught in the ugly act of adultery that we are to do an ugly act and we are to stone them but what do you say and of course we know that Jesus took and he wrote on the ground and well when he got through with all the accusers and you know in life we have a lot of accusers there's a lot of people that want to suck the energy out of us and they want to suck the life out of us but that day Jesus stood with that woman and when Jesus got finished he asked the woman one question woman where are your accusers at and because Jesus was there there's no accusers because anytime Jesus steps into your life he's able to silence all the accusers of your life and the woman said I don't have any and he said neither do i condemn you go and sin no more and just after that story jesus said I am the light of the earth I am the light you would stand with me this evening Lord Jesus I thank you that at the age of 16 years old you came in to my ugly life I thank you Jesus at the age of 16 I was hopeless God but you know hot you look at me and you said you're the reason I came you're the reason that I my blood you're the reason that I did all that I've done you're the reason father I love you tonight God Father I thank you tonight that you understood my reason you understood my situation God you provided blood and spirit you provided everything that I need lord I give you praise right now I give you worship right now I give you Thanksgiving right now Lord we are the reason for the season we are that reason let us praise Him at this time in Jesus name
