Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

He Prayed the Third Time

  • He reads the Gethsemane account entire: Jesus takes Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, is sorrowful and very heavy — 'My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me' — and falls on his face to pray, 'O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.'
  • Three times he goes away and prays, the second time and the third time saying the same words, and each time he finds the disciples asleep: 'What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.'
  • The third prayer is not a number to get an answer by; it is praying until — praying until what I am praying about becomes what the church is praying about. Jesus carried a burden so great on his humanity that he would not carry it alone; he wanted Peter, James, and John to share it, and it had to be recorded that he found them asleep.

Scriptures: Matthew 26:36-46

Bear One Another's Burdens

  • Paul said in Galatians that we are to bear one another's burdens, and when we do so we fulfill the law. One member gets under a burden, but it was never God's will that one member carry it alone; the burden is transferred until the whole body shares it.
  • One can put a thousand to flight, but two can put ten thousand to flight, and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Everything may be fine in my family, but that gives me no right to say I am burden-free: when one member of the body suffers, we all suffer.

Scriptures: Galatians (book-only, as spoken)

Where Two or Three Are Gathered

  • He reads the church's conflict rule: if your brother trespasses against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone — not on social media, not to your best friends in church; if he will not hear, take one or two more; if he neglects to hear them, tell it to the church.
  • What the church binds on earth is bound in heaven, and what it looses is loosed; 'if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.'
  • The only way the enemy will ever defeat the church is to divide it, and the answer for division is unity: when conflict breaks out, don't take sides — take the altar.

Scriptures: Matthew 18:15-20

Paul Besought the Lord Thrice

  • Paul was balanced by a gift he never asked for: 'There was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure' through the abundance of the revelations.
  • 'For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me' — the first time, no; the second time, no; and the third time the answer came: 'My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.' Paul prayed three times until he got his answer, and his answer was that his grace is larger than the thorn.
  • He took pleasure therefore in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: 'for when I am weak, then am I strong.' The thorn becomes a billboard that you are serving him.

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

They Continued With One Accord

  • Before they had even received the Holy Ghost, the disciples went up into the upper room — Peter, James, John, and the rest, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus — and 'these all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication.' One accord means one mind: they were not jumping from subject to subject.
  • Peter stood up in the midst of about a hundred and twenty and addressed the ugly subject of Judas head-on — unity can paint over any ugly picture that happens in our lives, in our family, in our church.
  • And the learning held: 'when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place,' and the Holy Ghost came. They had learned the secret of the third time prayer.

Scriptures: Acts 1:12-15; Acts 2:1

Together Into the Temple

  • The first miracle performed in the New Testament church began the same way: 'Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.' It could have just said they went up into the temple; the record insists they went up together — they had learned how to share the burdens.

Scriptures: Acts 3:1

The Word of God Increased

  • Trouble hit the church again in a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, and the apostles refused to leave the word of God to serve tables: 'Look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.'
  • The saying pleased the whole multitude, and the result of unity at the table is recorded: 'the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.' Nothing kills the move of the Spirit faster than bickering; the Holy Ghost settles where there is unity.

Scriptures: Acts 6:1-7

First Called Christians at Antioch

  • They received the Holy Ghost in Acts 2, performed miracles in Acts 3, solved internal problems in Acts 6, evangelized the Gentiles in Acts 10 — but the first place the disciples were called Christians was Antioch, a church of many nationalities that knew how to pray the third time prayer, fasting and praying until the Holy Ghost said separate Barnabas and Saul.
  • When the prophet Agabus signified a great dearth throughout all the world, the disciples at Antioch, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren in Judea by the hands of Barnabas and Saul — a church that can hear trouble around the world and gather up help, the way this church has answered the explosion in Beirut.

Scriptures: Acts 11:26; Acts 11:27-30

Prayer Was Made Without Ceasing

  • Herod stretched forth his hands to vex the church, killed James the brother of John with the sword, and took Peter also, delivering him to four quaternions of soldiers. 'Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.'
  • Maybe tragedy reveals we let our prayer guard down — but they did not wallow; they prayed for one thing, deliver Simon Peter, until God sent an angel, put sixteen soldiers to sleep, and opened the iron gates. Peter found it easier to get out of prison than to get into the prayer meeting, but he went straight to the place that caused his deliverance.

you have your bibles and return with me tonight to the book of matthew chapter number 26 matthew chapter 26 and verse number 36 monday night we begin a series on prayer can think of no better time to pray than the current situation that we're all in and monday night we covered the desire to pray that we must have a desire to pray and on tuesday evening the hour of power we covered praying the will of god praying the word of god praying in alignment with heaven and tonight i want to preach and teach on prayer um let's just read this passage of scripture and i'll announce my title verse number 36 then cometh jesus with them into a place called gethsemane and saith unto them sit you here while i go and pray yonder he took with him peter and the two sons of zebedee and begin to be sorrowful and very heavy he saith unto them my soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death tearing ye hear and watch with me he's speaking to his disciples he went a little further and fell on his face and prayed saying oh my father if it be possible let this cup pass from me nevertheless not as i will but as thou will he come up unto his disciples and findeth them asleep and saith unto peter what could not you watch with me one hour watch and pray that you enter not into temptation the spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak he went away again the second time please underscore that the second time and prayed saying o my father if this cup may not pass away from me except i drink it thy will be done he came and found them asleep again for their eyes were heavy and he left them and went away again and prayed the third time the third time saying the same words then cometh he to his disciples saith unto them sleep on now take your rest behold the hour is at hand son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners arise and let us be going behold he is at hand that does betray me first time second time and the third time and i want to teach tonight on the third prayer the third prayer father i love you tonight i thank you for your hand upon us i thank you lord victory i thank you for victory god in the midst of it all we have victory in the midst of it all we have you lord tonight enable me to be able to teach on prayer and to instill in the hearts of the people the knowledge of prayer that at any time and any place and any situation they can connect with you and god you make the impossible possible and you're able god to rule and reign i love you i praise you in jesus name amen amen you may be seated the third prayer the third prayer i um i believe it is um there for a reason i believe the holy ghost as it inspired matthew many years after the actual account and the spirit of god inspired matthew to write and he wrote about that night he didn't just paint it with a broad brush he didn't just paint it with a broad brush and say he went to gethsemane to pray disciples fell asleep he woke them and judas was there along with those that would arrest him but no it's detailed it's detailed and it is detailed it is detailed for a reason it is detailed to show us the humanity the humanity of christ he carried the weight he was as much uh man as if he wasn't god and as much god as if he wasn't man he was fully man and fully god fused together but don't ever think it was confused he was fully god and fully man and so as he enters this hour he asked for peter james and john to accompany him he is about to go into an hour the dark hour and he requests that peter james and john would go on into the garden of gethsemane with him and then he turns to them and tells them to watch and pray he tells them to watch and pray the bible says that he went a little further and it doesn't say he fell on his knees we often talk about i fell on my knees before god the bible said he fell on his face there are some things that are so heavy that he fell on his face and he prayed that prayer oh father if it is possible let this cup pass from me but nevertheless not as i will as you will and then he got up from that first prayer and he went to his disciples and he found them asleep he woke them and he cautioned them that this is not the hour to be asleep this is not the hour to be asleep this is an hour to be awake and an hour of prayer so then he goes back brother nolan and he prays the identical prayer of which matthew says the second time he goes back the second time and he prays that identical prayer and then he gets back up and he goes back to his disciples and once again he finds them asleep he awakes them he tells them again that they should be awake and they should be praying this is the hour to watch he goes back the third time and prays the same prayer the same prayer and then on the third time he simply goes back to them he awakes them by chiding them and saying sleep on now take your rest the hours come son of man is betrayed rise up let us be going so what this means this third prayer this third prayer is not necessarily a number that he's trying to get across as if if we pray three times we'll get our answer but it is talking about praying until the spirit of prayer comes upon the church praying not just a the number three but the number three represents a praying until we get through we used to call it praying through a praying until what i am praying about becomes what the church is praying about and when we get the unity in prayer when we get a unity in prayer and we all share the same burden what jesus was trying to accomplish here by taking peter james and john was he wanted them to share he was showing his humanity and he wanted them to share the burden he wanted them he wanted to give us a model in for the 21st century that we must understand that there are burdens that we have as individuals in the body of christ there are burdens there are burdens that we have that we cannot bear them alone we cannot bear them even jesus christ shows this this is a burden so great on his humanity that he didn't just leave the 12 disciples at the gate and say i'm going to go on in here he said i have got a burden that is so great that i need peter james and john to help me i need as i go and fall on my face and petition the father that if it's his will to let this cup pass from me i need to be able to take a few steps and find the church find my brothers find my sisters find my church family that is sharing the same burden with me because there are burdens as believers that we cannot bear on our own that's why we as a corporate body need to to know how to get under the burden of one another as a matter of fact paul said in galatians that we were to bear one another's burdens and when we do so we fulfill the law you see being a part of the church the baptized body of jesus christ one member will get under a burden but it is god's will that that that one member not carry that burden all by themselves but that one member would transfer that burden to someone else and when we all get in the same mind with the same burden-bearing spirit we're able to break through so the third time doesn't mean i pray one two three and that's it it means the third time as far as unity the third time as far as everyone sharing this burden because he's a burden burden lifting savior i believe that one can put a thousand to flight but two can put ten thousand to flight i believe that a threefold cord is not quickly broken so if i'm carrying a burden tonight i need to find my peter james and john i need to find my brothers and sisters and understand because that's what i'm referring to as far as complications from covet being scattered like we have been as a church god didn't intend for us to be scattered god didn't intend for us to to to worship him just simply through an internet and we're using the best we've got but the full potential of the church is when we gather together and learn the secret of the third prayer learn how to bear one another's burdens you know learn how to lift somebody up because i'll tell you something you may not be going through something today all your children may be healthy your husband may be healthy your wife may be healthy but somebody an aisle or two over may have just walked to the cemetery with a child or somebody a few or two over may just got a cancer report somebody like brother judd sears that's probably watching tonight that that has been diagnosed with an incurable cancer somebody like brother scott strong are missionary tonight you see everything may be fine in my family but that doesn't give me the the the the right to say i'm burden-free no when one member of the body suffers we all suffer when one member's got a burden we all have got a burden and we can pray through and get victory when we all share that burden now it's sad tonight that peter james and john failed the test they failed the test when it could have been written about them when it could have been written about them that they were a great encouragement to the man christ jesus it could have been written about them jesus could have come and found them praying and he could have said words like thank you for standing with me in this dark hour thank you for helping me seek the the face of the father thank you for helping me but it had to be recorded he found him asleep church it is no time to think of yourself it is no time to be selfish it is no time to be self-centered if there's ever been a day that we need to learn the secret of the third prayer it's today so that it might be it it it may be it may be recorded about our lives we didn't sleep during this hour we didn't allow slumber to overcome us that our brother struggled and fell on his face and carried the burden all alone oh this this burden for prayer this ability as a church family to be able to pray to be able to pray until the burden is lifted praying until you know several years ago there were those that spoke about tearing for the holy ghost we're gonna we're gonna tarry for the holy ghost and and and and somewhere some things kind of got mixed up in the church and someone began to say we don't care for the holy ghost anymore we don't wait on the holy ghost anymore just believe it and receive it i understand about how all that works but i wonder if we haven't done a tremendous injustice to the church to dare let the church think that we don't tarry anymore there are some prayers that can only be answered by lingering in the presence of god don't know about you but it takes me a little while to get my flesh subdued it takes me a little while it's just not a cold poem that i read it's just not a cold uh letter that i read about prayer sometimes i have to keep praying to get my flesh put to the side so that my spirit can pray and there are times that burdens can be lifted when the church is not watching the clock when we just get together and say let's pray till the answer comes let's pray until we literally feel somebody says i feel the burden lifted i feel that everything is going to be all right let's pray until this burden bearing this burden bearing prayer well turn over with me to the 18th chapter of the the book of matthew and the 18th chapter of the book of matthew speaking about this third prayer do you realize that when the third prayer causes unity to be in the church do you know that unity is the answer for every conflict that comes against the church the only way the enemy will ever defeat the church is to divide the church that's the only way the only way hell can ever stop the church or hinder the church is to divide the church and the answer or the for division is unity well let's look in matthew chapter 18 verse number 15. matthew chapter 18 and verse number 15. moreover if thy brother now he's talking about your brother in the church if thy brother shall trespass against thee go and get on social media and tell everybody on social media what your brother's done no it don't say that it says go and tell your best friends in church spend the time that you should be in the prayer room going through the lobbies and the pews and telling people what your brother's done to you it doesn't say that either it says if your brother trespass against thee go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone now this is the bible he said your brother has trespassed whatever that may be now i don't think a trespass is he got your parking spot or he got your pew i mean it's a serious offense he said if your brother trespassed against you say go and tell him his weakness tell him his fault between thee and him alone if he hear thee thou has gained thy brother listen if you listen isn't it wonderful to communicate and have someone to be able to communicate and get things right get you know two that were opposed each other get get things right said if you hear if he hears you you've gained thy brother but if he will not hear thee then take with thee one or two more see this is something this i really feel like that there's a lot of conflict because the devil when we don't communicate that's the that's the breeding ground for the devil to complicate when we don't communicate the devil gets to sow seeds of lies he gets to sow seeds in people's minds and people believe things but he said here he said but if he will not hear thee take one take with thee one or two more that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established you see if we're going to have conflict in the church and that conflict is not resolved you need to know what the truth is about that conflict and if we know what the truth is about that conflict then we know to be on the side of truth he said take one or two with you that every that every word may be established and if he shall neglect to hear thee tell it unto the church now you must realize this is a very serious offense again no it's not talked about somebody got your pew or somebody got your parking spot or or something of this nature he said if he would neglect to hear thee tell tell it unto the church but if he neglect to hear the church let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican so that he talked about resolving conflict verily i say unto you whatsoever ye shall bind on earth he's talking to the church whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in him and talk about the authority of the church of resolving conflict he said if you bind it if that's the way you decree it then that's the way it is in heaven and vice versa i like verse 19. again i say unto you that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask it shall be done for them of my father which is in heaven for where two or three are gathered together in my name there am i in the midst of them look at that talking about this third prayer that jesus gives us the model he took in this hour of wanting to share his burden with peter james and john he takes them in hopes that they will help share the burden that he is facing and now we read to where if there's conflict in the church that if there's two or three that are gathered together in my name i am in the midst of them oh church we can overcome any conflict from within our church if we can just learn the secret of the third prayer if we can learn when conflict breaks out in the church what we need to do is not take sides but take the altar what we need to do when conflict breaks out god has no glory and conflict nothing good comes out of conflict people get hurt lose out with god but if we can get the third time prayer going to where two or three agree upon earth that's touching any one thing he said i will i will i will do it i will do it well there's got to be something to this third prayer would you turn with me to um ii corinthians 2 corinthians chapter number 12. ii corinthians chapter number 12 and i believe it's verse 7 that i want to begin to read paul is paul is um he's trying he's defending uh his his call in the ministry the there's been a sect of corinthians uh uh saints at corinth that have believed a rumor that paul is really not an apostle and so paul defends his reputation by telling things he's endured and things that he's went through and and he talked about about being caught up into heaven and uh seeing great things and then in verse number 7 he says and lest i should be exalted above measure through the abundance of revelations there was given to me look at that wording there was given to me a thorn in the flesh there was given to me what about that gift there was given to me a thorn in the flesh the messenger of satan to buffet me smack around on me lest i should be exalted above measure he said now god balanced me out he said i was caught up into heaven and i saw things that i can't even describe and he said to balance me out when i came back spiritually back to earth god gave me the gift of a thorn in the flesh god gave me something that would always be there boxing with me and smacking me around he called it the messenger of satan and he said it was given that i would not be exalted above above measure now i have witnessed people and you have too that they're they're so earthly minded they're no they're excuse me they're so heavenly minded that they're no earthly good all right and of course as i almost misquoted that there are some that are so earthly minded they're no heavenly good so you have to find a balance so paul has caught up into heaven and had saw these revelations and god said i got to balance him out and he gave him a thorn in the flesh a messenger of satan now look at verse 8 now there's got to be something to this third time prayer for this thing i besought the lord thrice that's three times for this thing i went before the lord not once not twice but i went before the lord three times that it might depart from me the first time i went god would you take this thorn back would you would you take this thorn in the flesh and he didn't do it second time god would you take this thorn would you take this thorn that you've given me would you take it god and he didn't and the bible says on the third time on the third time he said i've assaulted the lord thrice that it might depart from me and he said unto me my grace is sufficient for thee for my strength is made perfect in weakness most gladly therefore will i rather glory in my infirmities that the power of christ may rest upon me therefore i take pleasure in infirmities in reproaches in necessities in persecutions in distresses for christ's sake for when i am weak then i am strong look what paul did he had the third time prayer he prayed till he got an answer jesus he his model was was to pray three times until the disciples caught the burden and would help him share the load paul prayed three times until he got his answer and his answer was my grace is larger than your thorn in the flesh your thorn in the flesh will be a billboard that you're serving me your problem overcoming your problem will be an evident token that my spirit is resting upon you can i tell you tonight first apostolic church do you think that god would let us do what we have done for his great name and what he's done through us to allow a virus to put a stigma upon first apostolic church i say i say no can i tell you that there's a lot of there is a lot of people that have so many misunderstandings about covet number one you can't help getting it number two it's not it's not something that it's not something of your income level it's not something of your o of your uh ethnicity this is not something of a certain group it's it's just a virus it's a virus and a very bad one at that but just because you've got the virus doesn't mean you're a dirty person and it doesn't mean that you've done something wrong and it doesn't mean that you're out of the will of god and because we have had several families in our church get it doesn't mean there's something wrong with first apostolic church the enemy would like to try to have a stigma put upon us but we've got to rise up and say i've got the third time prayer i've got the third time prayer we're going to pray we will overcome this we will come back stronger we will come back more anointed god's power will be in this auditorium souls will get the holy ghost people will get healed the baptism of waters will be stirred and god will use us once again if we know how to do the third time prayer sharing the burden i hope all of you are praying for your church now as as never before there's such unity there's such unity in prayer when we can all pray the same prayer and there's ever been a day you need to be praying for your church it's today not just for the pastor i i so appreciate all the kind text and phone calls and and i'm praying for you pastor in this hour thank you thank you so very very much along with that pray for the church pray for the unity pray for the unity of the church we are a salvation station we are a place for the prodigal we've got a big sign in our lobby that says welcome home we want our prodigals you're watching tonight you're a prodigal please come home we're looking for you would you please come home we want you to come home let's get ready the lord's about to come and you don't you don't need to be left out you need to get back in the ark of safety before it's too late well in the book of acts they hadn't even received the holy ghost yet and we see unity acts chapter number one verse number 12. they don't even they they're not they're not even filled with the holy ghost yet acts chapter 1 verse 12. then return they unto jerusalem from the mount called olivet which is from jerusalem a sabbath day's journey and they and when they were come in they went up and notice the word they i'm emphasizing that they went up into an upper room where abode lived peter james john andrew philip thomas bartholomew matthew james the son of alphaeus simon simon zealots judas the brother of james these all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication with the women and mary the mother of jesus and with his brethren what what's that they all continued in one accord that that word one accord there means one mind they had the third time prayer spirit they had the third time they were listen they wasn't just jumping from subject to subject they were there in one accord in prayer and supplication they were there in one mind because jesus said don't depart from jerusalem until you're filled with the holy ghost so that 120s there have their mind on one thing receiving the gift of the holy ghost and then it says they were in one accord in prayer and supplication and supplicate now supplication means petitions it means petitions and that that means someone in the group would stand up and say i'm carrying a burden over here and they would stop and they would pray for that burden they would pray for that individual so they were in one mind and in one accord and then verse number 15 it says and in those days peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said the number of names together were about 120. men and brethren this scripture must needs have been fulfilled which the holy ghost by the mouth of david spake before concerning judas which was guide to them that took jesus now peter is addressing an up an ugly subject that happened judas was the betrayer of jesus christ that's not an uplifting subject that's not something that was uplifting he was a traitor he was the one that sowed the lord and so peter addresses this situation for he was numbered with us and had obtained had obtained part of this ministry now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity and falling ahead long he burst asunder in the midst and all of his bowels gushed out you know what peter's talking about an ugly situation do you know that there are ugly situations that sometimes happens in the church it's ugly it's not pleasant but the public know about it the public has had watched judas was a follower of jesus they say yeah he was he was one of the original 12. did y'all hear that i mean this is this is being talked about through the the city of jerusalem there that he was one of the the 12. but did you hear he hung himself at and and evidently the rope broke or the branch broke and he fell off the cliff and he fell held headlong and he hit the pavement with such force that he he burst his bowels his stomach it all burst asunder open and and there he wasn't it's all gory details but peter talks about it the reason that he talks about it is not to air the dirty laundry of the church but it's to show the power of unity because unity can help us paint over any ugly picture that happens in our lives in our family in our church if we will be one with god is able to take and paint over that ugly event that happened peter goes on and they choose another apostle to take the place of judas we understand that in acts chapter 2 verse number 1 the morning the morning that the holy ghost fell and when the day of pentecost was fully come see if you see the third time prayer here and when the day of pentecost was fully come they were all with one accord in one place they had learned the secret of that third time prayer and the holy ghost came do you realize that the first message the first miracle excuse me the first miracle that was performed in the new testament church in acts chapter 3 verse number 1 the first miracle that was performed now peter and john went up together now peter and john went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer being the ninth hour now peter and john it could have just said went up into the temple but they didn't just go up into the temple they went up together in the temple they had learned how to share the burdens we understand that in acts chapter 6 in acts chapter 6 verse number 1 again trouble hit the church now judas wasn't the only trouble trouble hit the church and uh there was a division uh there there was a division between two groups of people uh there was a murmuring of the grecians against the hebrews there was this ethnic upheaval there and and the grecians felt like that because they weren't full hebrews that they were being neglected and there were bickering and there were talk you see nothing will kill the move of the spirit faster than bickering nothing you can whisper but the one to hear it is the holy ghost you can think it's just between you and your best friend but the one that hears it is the holy ghost and the holy ghost settles in where there is unity where there is unity the holy ghost settles in so the disciples the apostles came together and ver chapter six verse number three there's all this bickering going on and as a matter of fact verse number two might even lead us to believe that some of the bickering was why why don't the apostles get to serving food why don't them apostles that just go around preaching all the time why don't them why don't they get them a bread basket and go distributing food throughout and of course in verse number two they said it's not reason it's not right that we would leave the word of god and serve tables we've got to stay focused it's not right we are not the church is not necessarily a humanitarian relief effort here on this earth in that i am for feeding the poor i am forgiving sleeping bags to the homeless and god knows that we've done all that clothing orphans all that we've done all that we cannot think of ourselves is just some kind of humanitarian relief program such as the red cross we are a church that preaches the word of god the only thing that will transform a sinful life is the gospel of jesus christ he said we're not going to leave the giving of the word of god and serve tables he says wherefore brethren look you out among you seven men of honest report full of the holy ghost wisdom whom we may appoint over this business but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and of the ministry of the word and the saying please the whole multitude and it goes down they were all pleased with this and they all agreed to this and they found seven men and they ordained them to be deacons and watch what happens sister carpenter when the church works together in the third time prayer look at verse 7 and the word of god increased and the number of the disciples multiplied in jerusalem greatly and a great number of priests were obedient to the faith oh the enemy thought he'd get the people bickering different ethnic groups bickering against each other and all of this stuff and the devil thought oh they'll they'll divide and they will implode but what they didn't know there was some men that knew the power of the third time prayer and they brought unity to the table and when it was all said and done praise god the church was growing and people were obeying the truth as never before amen we understand the third time prayer praying together and that's what i'm referencing when i say praying third time i'm not talking about a number of prayers i'm talking about when when the spirit of prayer gets on everybody of the same purpose you see the bible tells us in acts chapter 12 verse number one it says now about this time herod's the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church he killed james brother of john with the sword and because it saw he saw it please the jews he proceeded further to take peter also then were the days of unleavened bread see oh herod he took james's head and he saw the people were happy about that and he said well i'll just reach out there and get peter the key man i'll just get peter and i'll put him in jail the bible said in verse four and when he had apprehended him that means arrested him he put him in prison and delivered him to four quadrants of soldiers that's 16 soldiers to keep him intending after easter to bring him forth to the people peter therefore was kept in prison but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto god for him now this would lead me to believe that maybe the church let down their prayer guard maybe the church got a little little relaxed and they let down their prayer guard and before they knew it herod had done reached out and got james and cut his head off maybe sometimes tragedies can reveal that we've let our prayer guard down but we don't have to wallow in self-pity they realize oh did you hear james james was beheaded oh we've let our prayer and the next thing they said did you hear they they've taken simon peter they've got him in prison and they're going to do the same to him but somebody said hold up we may have had our prayer guard down and they may have got james but they're not going to get simon peter and the bible said they got together and they begin to operate in the third time prayer they begin to pray without ceasing to god look at those last two words for him they didn't get together in the church and two of them was praying about a job and two more were praying about this and two more were praying about that how many people were in that prayer meeting we don't know but they were all praying for one thing deliver simon peter deliver simon peter oh god deliver simon peter deliver simon peter lord deliver simon peter god you know well how long did they pray i'll tell you how long they prayed they prayed until god sent an angel they didn't know it god sent an angel and delivered peter god put 16 soldiers to sleep and caused chains to fall off and big iron gates to open up on their own and when peter got out into the street he considered this thing and he said it's the lord the lord has done this now this is what's interesting he knew the house to go to to find out who was there pray he knew exactly where when he got out there and said man this was the lord the lord has heard the third time prayer the lord has heard this prayer and the lord and he knew i know exactly where the church is at and he went down to the church and he began to knock on the door and they're in there praying for simon peter to be delivered and a little girl came to the door and and she saw peter and she went back in and told somebody they were in there oh god deliver simon peter she went back here and said simon's at the door simon's at the door and the people in the prayer room said honey just go back to praying you've seen a spirit you saw a vision he said no no simon's at the little girl said simon's at the door and peter kept on knocking until he got him uh got him to come to the door and i've often said peter peter found it easier to get out of prison that he did to get into the prayer meeting but he went to the place that caused his deliverance and if god would hear the prayer of the church you might have gotten james but you're not getting simon peter we might have let our guard down but i'm here to tell you i'm here to serve notice on the herod we're coming back we're going to be more unified as a church family first apostolic maryville first apostolic saberable we're going to be more unified as never before and you better look out herod you better look out here because we're going to come back amen amen amen i'm talking about the third time prayer you know this is interesting and i'd like our musicians our singers to come back for a moment and interesting acts chapter 11 acts chapter 11 verse number 26 acts chapter 11 verse number 26 and when he had found him he brought him to antioch that's when barnabas found saul who would later be paul and when he found him he brought him to antioch and it came to pass that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church and taught much people now here's what i want you to see and the disciples were called christians first at antioch and the disciples were called christians first at antioch now they got the holy ghost in acts chapter 2 spoke in tongues they performed miracles in acts chapter 3 silver and gold have i none such as i have they solved internal problems in acts chapter 6. they evangelize the gentiles in acts chapter 10. if you ever give much thought the first place they were called christians was antioch the word christian means christ's life the first time somebody said hey these folks are christ-like that they have the resemblance of christ they they they are christians it was an antioch you know what's very interesting about antioch was the diversity of different nationalities that are listed in antioch he was a church he wasn't wasn't a white church a black church a hispanic church an asian church it was all filled with different people from different nationalities and it was there it was there hey barnabas why don't you take paul to jerusalem when you get this new convert saul why don't you take him to jerusalem no they tried to kill him there i know where to take you i know where you'll be saved you'll be safe in antioch you know why antioch knew how to pray the third time prayer antioch is a church that's known for praying the bible talked about they would fast and pray and wait until the holy ghost would say lay your hands on paul and barnabas sit them out for the work i wonder what a prayer meeting looked like that prayer meeting looked like is all just praying fasting praying the church at antioch and the holy ghost moved on whoever was the pastor he just went over and said the holy ghost says you all paul you and barnabas need to go that way to the work of god what a church i want this church to be an antioch church i don't want us to be divided by the color of our skin i don't want any of us to be divided by how much money we make or we don't make or how much school we went through or didn't go through god help us to be the church of the third time prayer because the church of the third time prayer you'd have a police officer on one end of the pew and a former drug dealer on the other end of the pew they can be worshiping god together a church that knows the third time prayer could have a white man and a black man standing side by side loving god tell you something else about the antioch church see if this don't sound familiar acts 11 27 and in those days acts 11 27 and in those days came prophets from jerusalem and antioch and there stood up one of them named agabus and signified by the spirit that there should be a great dearth throughout all the world which came to pass in the days of claudius caesar a dearth is a horrible shortage of food this prophet got up this prophet got up and he said that sayeth the lord there shall be a great shortage of food throughout all the world what are you gonna do then the disciples verse 29 then the disciples every man according to his ability determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in judea which also they did and sent it in it to the elders by the hands of barnabas and saul that antioch church could hear trouble around the world the region and they can begin to say let's gather up food let's give her up money i think it sounds familiar first lady i think it sounds like something like last a week ago tuesday when a massive explosion rocked the city of beirut and totally destroyed our missionaries church brothers are but on sunday morning the antioch church gets together and we've got a way now of skyping together we got away and the missionary comes on and oh i'd like to tell you but there has been a very generous offering there's going to be helping the church to rebuild maybe even by property it's going to be able to help i want to be an antioch church i want to be an idiot church but the only way we're at antioch church the only way we can pray the third time prayer is to be willing to share the burdens to share the burdens now i purposely and i've asked brother hammond to join me but i purposely waited to the very end to have prayer you see it's not so much what coveted has done to us now it's the effects that covet will have upon us in the days to come i want to pray tonight for our elderly i want to pray tonight for our trendsetters i want to pray tonight that god would touch you i was on the phone today with our dear sweet sister faye bryant before covet hit she was having some health issues and with health issues health issues affect you body soul and spirit she was just telling me today and i was sharing with her also my heart and i know mother thorpe we talked about this and others but it's just not the sickness seems like that we're in a vice of pressure seems like there's just a spirit of oppression they're just a spirit that's trying to put gloom and doom upon the church and trying to get us to believe it's never going to be normal it's never going to be normal it's never going to be like it was who says who says it's not going to be like it was who says that things are not going to return back to the way that they were and and we've got our we've got our blessed elderly we've got our older people that are struggling from from from things we don't even know and and we don't know have already weathered storms i pray right now in jesus amen amen brother hammond are you faster to come right now because i not only see an effect upon our trendsetters but i see an effect upon our strong tower students that enemy that enemy has tried to use this to separate us to cause us to start questioning things and all of that but right now we pray for our trendsetters now i'm going to ask you brother hammond's going to lead us we're going to pray for our strong tower students tonight that god would touch them oh in the name of jesus three words that continue to come to my mind agree with me i know you may feel social distance right now i know that even we're spread out up here this evening but agree with me i wonder if there's a young person that get down on their knees right now and he says we're two or three would agree touching any one thing agree with me right now that coven will not be the cause of insecurity that coven will not be the cause of depression that covet will not be the cause of a lack of consecration that covet will not be the cause of my distance between me and god i pray right now in the name of jesus as we stand at the forefront of revival as we stand at a gateway at a crossing i pray that a young person would agree with me this evening that we're going to see revival then we're going to see anointing that god has not brought this for this moment but such a time as this that a generation could withstand it right now i pray oh god i pray oh god oh agree with me that we can find what needs to be bound that we can loose what needs to be loosed god i pray that you'd open the windows of heaven and pour out your mercy god i pray that your mercy would draw a heart to repentance right now oh god i pray for a soul that's lost god i pray for a young lady that's made wrong decisions god i pray for a young man this would come addiction god i pray that mercy god i pray that mercy withdrawal to repentance right now god whatever you gotta do god right now young person we're being said we're sent home it's not a good thing i pray hope right now god is with you god is for you god is fighting god is standing in the midst i want to continue to pray for the strong tower who was down on the floor praying i was reminded of the time that jesus stood and looked out over jerusalem the beautiful city of jerusalem and he began to weep he began to weep and he said oh jerusalem jerusalem if you only knew this that time if you only knew what opportunity you have he said but you would not he said i would have gathered you in and it would have protected you but you would not but the day was coming and jesus began to prophesy an event that would happen some 40 years later he said titus the roman will come and they will cast the trench all around here they'll rip babies out of pregnant women's stomach they'll burn the temple they'll do all these things i'm telling you tonight in the spirit there are young people right now that if we don't seize the moment there's young ladies and young men that are teetering on either becoming mighty for god or mighty in the world there are teetering right now there's daughters and sons and grandchildren that are teetering on are they coming in the church are they falling out of the church and it could be the third time prayer that's going to change the difference tonight should we pray right now god i pray god lord some of these parents up god shakes some of these parents god let them see the value of the church let them see the value of the school oh god show us your glory yes show
