Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
A double portion for a two scoop situation
- His text: Elijah, about to be taken away, asks Elisha what he shall do for him, and Elisha answers, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
- He opens with the Keystone Apostolic Church in Charleston, West Virginia, destroyed by a mudslide: the pastors' six-year-old daughter Tori, seeing the only church she has ever known broken, is taken for ice cream and asks for two scoops today, because this is a two scoop situation.
- Elisha surveyed the land he was about to serve — the Ahabs and the Jezebels, the doubters who would question his identity and his motive — and knew one scoop would not do; so does a generation facing a culture that wants to silence its voice, and so does the believer facing the end of life on a sickbed rather than in a chariot of fire.
Scriptures: 2 Kings 2:9
Man's condition: sin, death, and the judgment to come
- For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
- There is one appointment no one breaks or postpones: it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment.
- At the great white throne the dead, small and great, stand before God, the books are opened, and another book is opened, which is the book of life; born once, you die twice, but enter the two scoop situation and you are born twice and die once.
Scriptures: Romans 3:23; Romans 3:11; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11-12
Ye must be born again: of water and of the Spirit
- Jesus answers Nicodemus: except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God; except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God — marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.
- The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him, dwelleth with you and shall be in you — the two scoops are the blood of the Savior at Calvary and the Spirit of regeneration at Pentecost.
Scriptures: John 3:3-7; John 14:17
Breathed again: from the first breath to Pentecost
- The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul; the fall ended that life, and God did not leave man dead in his sin.
- Before he ascended, Jesus breathed on his disciples and said, receive ye the Holy Ghost — not received there, but pointing to what was coming: as God breathed into man in the beginning, he would breathe into him one more time.
- On the day of Pentecost they were all with one accord in one place when the sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind filled the house, tongues like as of fire sat upon each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Scriptures: Genesis 2:7; John 20:22; Acts 2:1-4
The second scoop in Samaria and at Ephesus
- Samaria believed the preaching of the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ and was baptized, both men and women — but the Holy Ghost was fallen upon none of them, until Peter and John came down, prayed for them, laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
- John's baptism belonged to the law and ended with it; at Ephesus Paul asks the disciples, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed, and hearing that they were baptized unto John's baptism, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and when Paul had laid his hands upon them the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied.
- His close: do not settle for the first scoop of believing — God wants you baptized in his name for the remission of sins and filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost, the power to be ready in that day; this is a two scoop situation.

Second Kings chapter 2 and verse number nine. And it came to pass when they were gone over that Elijah said unto Elisha, "Ask what I shall do for thee before I be taken away from thee." And Elisha said, "I pray thee, let a double portion, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. Let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." You may be seated. We have recently been made aware of the Keystone Apostolic Church in Charleston, West Virginia that was completely destroyed in a mudslide. brother and sister Cheser and their sixyear-old daughter Tori. Brother and sister Cheser are the pastors there. This church is the only church the Chessers were evangelizing and this is the only church that six-year-old Tori has ever known. The week before the church was completely destroyed by a mudslide, Tori's Sunday school class was being moved because of growth into a brand new Sunday school room, painted and decorated, waiting for that Sunday morning. As a matter of fact, Tori had a favorite place to play right outside the church while mom and dad were busy with activities of the church. Well, the mudslide came and the mudslide completely destroyed the Keystone Apostolic Church. Brother Sister Chester told me they kept things quiet for a few days. They kept the news away from Tori because things were still happening there in the area and they didn't know just how much of the mountain was going to come down. And so a few days went by and brother and sister Chester both agreed that we're going to have to drive Tori down and show Tori the church. This is the only church she's ever known. They said when Tori got out of the car, she began to cry and she said, "Mom and daddy, the church is broken. The church is broken." She stood there and cried for a while as she said, "My Sunday school class." The little piece of grass in the front yard of the church that we played on underwater, it's gone. Tori stood there and continued to cry. Her mother told me, she said, "I knew I needed to do something to cheer Tori up." So she said, "Torri, let's go downtown Charleston to our favorite ice cream shop, Ellens." Tori began to smile a little bit because that was the place they would go for a special treat. Go to Ellen's downtown for one scoop of ice cream. Tori looked up at her mom and dried the tears up and said, "Mama, can I have two scoops today?" Her mother said, "Oh yes, Tori, you can have two scoops." And Tori looked at her and looked at the church and she said, "This is a two scoop situation. So, I want to preach for a few moments this morning on the two scoop situation. Seemed like to Tori that all she needed was two scoops because this was a two scoop situation. You know, in life, we get in places that we don't need just one touch. one anointing we need two. I don't know if Elisha as he was taking over from for Elisha as he was going to take the manel of the man of God Elijah we sang about at the choir but there was something about Elisha's surveying of the land that day. He saw the Ahabs and the Jezebels. He saw the groves on the high hills given to idol worship. And the man of God said, "What would you want me to do before I leave here in a fiery chariot and fiery horses? What do you want me to do for you before I go up into heaven in a chariot of fire and horses?" Elisha said, "This is a two scoop situation here. I got to have more than just one scoop, Elijah. I've got to have a double portion of your spirit. Can I get a witness in the house today? A double portion. It's a two scoop situation. Elisha would soon be confronted. Not minutes after he assumed the role of Israel's prophet. Not minutes after Elijah had ascended to heaven in a chariot of fire did the prophets, the sons of the prophets come and say, "We need to go look for him. We need to go and see if God has put him over here on some mountain somewhere." You see, I need a double portion in my life. I need two scoops because I'm always surrounded with people who are doubting my identity. I'm always surrounded with people that are doubting my motive. Anybody here with me this morning? I'm surrounded by people that want to say I'm doing what I'm doing for the wrong reason. He said, you know, I need a double portion of your spirit. This is a two scoop situation here. He wouldn't go too much farther. Then children would come out and begin to mock him and begin to curse him. You see, there was great disrespect given by a future generation. Aren't we the church today faced with a future generation that wants to say that we're an antique that wants to say that we're outdated? Aren't we surrounded with a culture today that wants to silence our voice of absolutes? Silence our voice on the Ten Commandments. Silence our voice. They don't mind what we believe. They just don't want us preaching what we believe. They don't mind what we do. They just don't want us standing up. I'm telling you, choir, it's a day. This is a two scoop situation. After all, I'll be facing Jezebel before too long. I'll be facing Ahab before too long. They're in control of our government. They're in control of the ones making the laws. Aren't we today facing a government that wants to make laws to take the the the the manger scene away and the Bibles away and the Bible reading away and prayer out of school. And that's just the start. They want to eradicate every symbol that would remind a a a civilization that we were founded on the word of God. I got news for you Elisha. You're not the only one. I stand here today in the midst of my generation and I say I've got some Ahabs and I got some Jezebels and I need my double pour. I need my two scoops today. This is a two scoop. Wait a minute. How about when the end comes? How about when I'm facing the end of my life? I speak maybe today to some elderly person today that you didn't think that your life was going to end as it has. You didn't have this in your script. You didn't believe you had you had taken a two scoop anointing years ago. After all, Elisha left here in a fiery chariot. And I'm a frail man or woman laying on my deathbed. That's all right. I've got a double portion of God's spirit. I've got a two scoop situation going on. That's all right. I may be laying in a hospital bed this morning. I may be laying with some disease ravishing my body, but that's all right. I may not go out of here in a fiery chariot, but I will go out of here to glory because I have a double anointing upon my life. Uh, I just wish somebody would praise the Lord today for at that double anointing, that two scoop. What's our condition today? What is man's condition today? Well, here it is. Simply Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Look around the landscape. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:11, "There is none that understandeth. There is none that seeketh after God. Hebrews 9:27. As it is appointed unto man once to die, but after after this the judgment. Revelation 20 and verse number 11. And I saw a great white throne and him that sat upon it from whose face the earth and the heavens fled away, and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God. And the books were open, and another book was open, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged out of those things which are written in the books according to their work. Look at what I've just read you all the way from telling what man is about. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And there's none that seeketh after. There's none that seeketh after God. And we all have got an appointment one day that you're going to meet. You may break a lot of appointments, but there's one appointment you won't break. You won't postpone it. You won't put it off. It's in God's book. And that's it is appointed unto man to die and after death the judgment. Not some eternal sleep. Not some back to dust. Not some coming back in another form. After this the judgment. I got news for you today. You're born once, you'll die twice. But you enter into the two scoop situation. Get born twice, die once. Ladies and gentlemen, I have got a two scoop situation on my hands. I'm born in sin and shapen in iniquity. I'm on my way without Jesus to a judgment seat. And without Jesus, when I go to that judgment seat, I'll be cast into a lake of fire to stay there forever. I'm surveying the land. And I'm telling you, brother Nolan, I have a two scoop situation on my hand. I've got somewhere between my natural birth and and the white throne judgment. I've got to be born again. Jesus said it. Jesus said it in John 3:3. Jesus answered and and Jesus answered and said unto Nicodemus, "Verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born when he is old, but except a man be born again, excuse me, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus saith unto him, "How can a man be born when he is old, can he enter into the can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit." Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. This is much much much more serious than Tori's broken church. You need to be born again. You need two scoops. Born naturally, of course, and then that natural birth must experience the rebirth of the spirit and of the water. Jesus said, Jesus said, you know, Jesus in a way was two scoops. He was God and man. He was mediator and spirit. Jesus said in John 14:17, speaking of the Holy Ghost, he said, "Even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it seeth him not, neither know of him. But ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." To be born again is to get the two scoops. The blood of the Savior at Calvary and the spirit of regeneration at Pentecost. He said, "I'm I'm dwelling with you, but I shall be in you." We were made according to Genesis 2:7. We were made and the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. We know that the fall of man ended that life. But we also know that God didn't leave man dead in his sin. That God came to this earth in the form of man. Suffered, bled, and died on a cross. Rose again on the third day. and before he ascended back up into heaven, told the disciples to go back to Jerusalem and wait until the comforter, wait until the promise of the father comes. But just before he left, he connected something. The Bible said in John 20 and 22, "And when he had said this, he breathed on them and saith unto them, receive ye the Holy Ghost." Now, they didn't receive it there. We know that they didn't receive it to Pentecost. But he was simply trying to say to them, just as I breathed breath into man in the very beginning, what is about to happen to you is that I'm going to breathe into you one more time. And that happened in Acts chapter 2 verse one. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all in one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them clothed tongues like as a fire, and it set upon each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them the utterance or the ability to speak. What happened there on that day? God gave man the double scoop. God allowed man to be born again. God said, "You're not going to go to judgement without out. This is a two scoop situation. You're not going to go to judgment as a natural man. But you're going to come to me filled with my spirit. That's called being born again of the water and of the spirit. I've come to preach to you today in this auditorium and to those watching by website and by way of television that ye must be born again. This is a two scoop situation. You can't go out into eternity without being born again of the water and of the spirit. Two scoops. Two scoops. Acts 8 and 12. But when they believed Philillip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women. That believing is your first scoop. And many of the religious world today allow that first scoop to go. Then Simon himself also believed. And when he was baptized, he continued with Philillip and wondered beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Now when the apostles were at which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John, who when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost. Now, isn't this interesting? That they had believed, but they had not been filled with the Holy Ghost. For as yet he was fallen upon none of them. Only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost. Praise God. They received the Holy Ghost. That was that second step. You see, you need to be born again. We need to be born again. We must be born again of the water and the spirit. That's that second scoop that it seemed like Tori Tori before this time Tori could be satisfied. mommy just going down to Ellen's on Saturday and getting one scoop. But when her world fell apart, she said, "I need two scoops today." Can I tell you, when your world is falling apart, you're going to need the spirit of God. You're going to need God's presence in your life. When your world is falling apart, you're going to need the you're God knew what he God knew what he was doing when he gave us the Holy Ghost because life is so uncertain. And God said, "I want my bloodbought children to have something in them that's greater than what's on the outside of them. I want my children to have the Holy Ghost. Don't settle for an outdated religion. Don't settle for something that's outdated. John the Baptist. And I close. Sister Ericson could make her way to the piano. Not John the Baptist was under the law. The law went all the way to the day of Pentecost. Jesus was under the law. The cross was under the law. He fulfilled the law. John baptized under the law. John baptized under the law. He was under the law at that time. that all flesh should repent and believe and look toward the Messiah to come, the Savior, the Christ. And to show that you had believed and were anticipating the Messiah, the Savior, the Christ, you would be baptized in Jordan. You would be baptized by John. You would be baptized to show that you were believing that Messiah had come. But when the law ended, so did John's baptism end. A new day dawn, the grace dispensation, the born again dispensation. Jesus plainly said, "I cannot send the comforter until I go away." The Holy Ghost was not given yet because Jesus had not been glorified. But when he was glorified, ascended up into heaven, he sent his spirit back to this earth and we were born again. But in the 19th chapter of the book of Acts, Paul came across and it came to pass while Apollos was at Corinth. Paul having passed through the upper coast came to Ephesus and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, "Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?" And they said unto him, "We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." He said unto them, "Unto what then were you baptized? Or for what purpose did you get baptized?" They said, "Unto John's baptism." Then said Paul, John verely baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied. And all the number of the of of men, all the men were about 12. Can I tell the religious world respectfully and lovingly and tenderly and caringly today? John's baptism's outdated. When you believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior, you received the first scoop. But God wants you to have a double portion of his spirit. God wants you to go from believing upon him to being waterbaptized in his name for the remission of your sins. And God wants to fill you with the gift of the Holy Ghost as God's presence inside of your life. God wants to give you power. God wants to give you anointing. And don't be afraid. When that spirit comes, it will announce itself. You will speak in a heavenly language. As the spirit of God gives you utterance, it'll give you power to go through life. It'll give you power to overcome. But most of all, it'll give you power to be ready in that day. You'll be ready for the trumpet to sound, the baptism of the Holy Ghost. This is a two scoop situation.
