Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Baptism doth now save us
- He reads from the first book of Peter, chapter three: Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, and preached unto the spirits in prison.
- In the days of Noah, eight souls were saved by water — the same water that lifted the ark destroyed the corruption of a godless world.
- The like figure makes baptism part of salvation: not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God.
Scriptures: 1 Peter 3:17-21
He that believeth and is baptized
- Jesus places the 'and' between believeth and baptized, and 'shall be saved' after both — he did not say the believer is saved and should afterwards be baptized.
- Water baptism by immersion is therefore an essential part of the plan of salvation, not an optional step after it.
Scriptures: Mark 16:15-16
The name, not the titles
- Jesus said baptizing them in the name — singular — of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost; Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are descriptive titles of one God, not names.
- A check is signed with a name, not with titles such as father or pastor; the one God has a revealed name, and Jesus came in his Father's name.
Scriptures: Matthew 28:18-19
Peter's answer on Pentecost
- Peter stood up with the eleven and preached while Matthew, who had recorded the commission, stood in the crowd and raised no objection to how Peter baptized.
- Pricked in their hearts, the hearers asked what they should do, and Peter answered: repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- Nowhere in the Bible was anybody baptized any other way but in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and for the purpose of remission of sins.
Scriptures: Acts 2:14; Acts 2:37-38
The Lord our God is one Lord
- Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord — the oneness of God stands against every later attempt to separate him into persons.
Scriptures: Deuteronomy 6:4
Re-baptized in Jesus' name
- John's baptism was a baptism of repentance, valid for its season, saying the people should believe on him who should come after — that is, on Christ Jesus.
- At Ephesus, Paul found disciples who had been baptized unto John's baptism and had not yet heard of the Holy Ghost.
- When they heard, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came on them, and they spake with tongues and prophesied.

we would like to welcome you to the apostolic connection the weekly televised service of the First Apostolic Church here in Maryville Tennessee I'm Pastor Kenneth Carpenter and we would like the congregation and myself to give you an Apostolic hand clap offering for joining us today by way of television and by way of the worldwide web so what an honor it is to have you with us today I will ask those in the audience if you would be seated at this time I would like to draw your attention to the first book of Peter chapter number three and verse number 17 Peter writes and says for it is better if if the will of God be so that you suffer for well-doing than for evildoing for Christ also have once suffered for sins the just for the unjust that he might bring us to God being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison which sometime were disobedient when Once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah while the ark was of preparing wherein few that is eight Souls were saved by water the light figure were unto even baptism also now doth also now save us not the putting away of the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience toward God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ I want to preach this morning for a few moments on water baptism in Jesus name some may ask that the Oneness Apostolic Pentecostal people why they B baptize immerse only in the name of the Lord Jesus first addressing this I believe that we need to address baptism as a whole is baptism question is baptism essential for salvation can one be saved without being baptized there's an example that Peter gives in reference to water baptism he spoke about when Christ descended into the Earth and preached unto the spirits in prison he said that these Spirits had one time been disobedient when Once the Longs suffering of God was waiting in the days of Noah while the ark Was preparing wherein few wherein few that is eight Souls were saved Noah in obeying God's word to build the ark the way that God said to build it Noah built it the length the height the width the type of wood the pitch from within and out all that God commanded no Noah to do Noah did not questioning one word scripture said the flood came and Noah's family totaling eight Souls entered the Ark rode above the flood came down to a new Earth and they were the only living human beings on the earth at that time Peter said that these eight Souls were saved by water verse number 20 they were saved from the corruption of a Godless world because the same water that lifted them destroyed the corruption but then Peter adds to in verse 21 he adds and says that this has become the light figure where unto even Baptist doth now save us it saves us when we obey the words of Jesus Christ just like Noah was saved in his days by obeying what God Said So baptism according to a Bible answer baptism does play a role in the salvation of our souls let's listen to Jesus Christ in Mark chapter 16 Mark chapter 16 and begin reading with verse number 15 and he said unto them go into all the world and preach the gospel to Every Creature he that believeth and is emphasis now he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned Jesus said when he placed the end between believeth and baptism and the saved after Jesus did not say he that believeth is saved the same should be baptized he didn't say that our Bibles our Bibles don't read that way our Bibles read he that believeth plus baptism equals salvation so water baptism water baptism immersion is an essential part of the Plan of Salvation for for man but let's don't stop there because Oneness Pentecostals not only believe that it is essential to Salvation for a person to be immersed in water but we also teach and believe the Bible method that it is to be administered in the name of Jesus Christ Matthew 28 and verse number 16 it's interesting you must underline this verse 16 then the 11 disciples went away into Galilee into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them the 11 they there and when they saw him they worshiped but some doubted Jesus came and spake unto them saying all power is given unto me in heaven and in Earth go ye therefore and teach All Nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost now before we move on to Acts chapter 2 I I want to bring your attention to what Jesus said and what he did not say he did not say teach All Nations baptizing them in the name of the father and the name of the son and the name of the Holy Ghost simple reason Father Son and Holy Ghost are not named Father Son and Holy Ghost are descriptive titles of one God but that one God has a name a revealed name the highest name that he's ever had that was revealed and that name is Jesus the name of the father one would only have to find out the name of Jesus for Jesus said I have come in my father's name so father Son and Holy Ghost are not names but descriptive titles of one God I am a father I am a pastor I am a son I am a husband but these are all descriptive titles of the person but the name of the person is Kenneth Ray Carpenter I would never write you a check and sign that check father son and Pastor they would look at you at the bank and say is this man crazy we need his name because there are many fathers there are many sons and there are many pastors we want the one that wrote this check and if you got the name of the one that wrote the check it would have to be Kenneth Ray Carpenter and so Jesus he said baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost he did not say name of the father name of the son and name of the Holy Ghost now as we move to Acts chapter 1 or Acts chapter 2 and we look remember with me if you will remember with me that Matthew was there as a part of the 11 Acts chapter 2 and verse number 14 the Holy Ghost has come and have received the gift of the Holy Ghost and now it is time for Peter to begin preaching and the the Bible says in Acts 2:14 but Peter standing up with the 11 lifted up his voice now in Matthew Matthew writes about the 11 Matthew being the writer Peter being one that would make up the 11 all right now Luke writes Peter being the one standing the 11 being made up now of Matthew in the crowd what I want to establish by this is Matthew is in the crowd Peter is about to preach now when Peter comes down to Acts chapter 2 and 37 he has preached from verse 14 to verse 37 the only saving message there is the only gospel that will save your soul for there is only one God God and his name is not Buddha there is only one God and his name is not Allah there is only one God and his name is Jesus amen oh I got to I got to praise him just for a moment because I know the name of the one true and living God and neither is there salvation in any other for there is no other name given among men under heaven whereby we must be saved confucious cannot save you Muhammad cannot save you Allah Buddha cannot save you all the false gods of this world cannot redeem the soul of man only the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ saves a soul from sin Peter preaches from verse 14 to verse 36 the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ in verse number 37 the Bible says now when they heard this they were pricked in their heart and said unto Peter and to the rest of the Apostles being belov men and Brethren what shall we do then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost if Peter had administered baptism incorrectly Matthew would have stepped up and said wait a minute Peter I recorded Matthew 28 the father Son and Holy Ghost you're doing it wrong Peter no Matthew knew that Jesus was doing it that Peter was doing it right the disciples knew that Jesus what he meant for example when Jesus said go into all the world and teach All Nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost he wasn't saying repeat these words if he had wanted them to repeat the words he would have said when you baptize baptize them repeating these words but he said when you baptize baptize them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost now they knew what the father's name was Jesus they knew that the name of the son was Jesus and they knew the holy ghost would come in Jesus name they knew that these were just manifestations of one God that's why Peter didn't step up and say wait a minute that that's why Matthew didn't step up and say wait a minute Peter you've got it all wrong you see today if I would ask my good dear brother white if I would say brother white would you hand me my water please now no wait a minute no wait minute if I would say that to you if I would say that to you and you would say back to me brother White would you hand me my water please has brother white done what I asked or has he merely repeated what I asked he's only repeated what I asked he would not obey what I asked now brother white would you hand me my water please now brother white has done what I asked him to do when Jesus said baptize him in the name of the the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost and they baptized on the day of Pentecost in Acts two in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins they were doing what Jesus had asked them to do ladies and gentlemen brothers and sisters this morning present and those watching by television in the worldwide web nowhere in the lids of your Bible was anybody baptized any other way but but in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for the purpose of remission of sins let me let me go on the record today let me go on record today as saying that baptizing repeating the titles of the words Father Son and Holy Ghost did not come to 325 ad much later by men that never knew the Lord Jesus men that only had this book and had no true relationship with Jesus Christ or they had scripture but not they had no relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ they were the ones that started changing from him being one God that was the father of all creation became the son of redemption and is the holy ghost in the church they separated him into different persons gave him different personalities and different bodies and they separated him into the Triune God but that is never found in the scripture if God wanted himself to be separated into a Triune God then you would not hear Deuteronomy 6 and4 here oh Israel the the Lord our God is one Lord let me go down on record today to accept that things had to evolve out of this book then where may I ask or did they stop evolving if these men that walk with Jesus did not see it clearly enough to write about it and preach about it then who is to say the ones that came about in the third and fourth Century had enough knowledge also but my confidence is in this book today because in Acts chapter 2 they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in Acts chapter 8 they were baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in Acts chapter 10 they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ well is baptism so important that if I was baptized incorrectly I was very sincere Pastor Carpenter when I was baptized do you think I should be re-baptized now in jesus' name I was very sincere well let me ask you this Jesus testified of a man and Jesus said that not a greater man had been born than John the Baptist was not a greater man born among women is what the Lord said John joh came baptizing John baptized John baptized his baptism was a baptism of repentance under the is was under the Old Testament was a baptism of repentance saying un the people that they should believe on him which should come after that is Jesus Christ would you think if one had been baptized by Mighty John the Baptist they would need to be re-baptized again let's let scripture answer that for us Acts chapter 19 and verse number one and it came to pass that while apalus was at Corinth Paul having passed through the upper Coast came to Ephesus and finding certain disciples he said unto them have ye receive the Holy Ghost since you believed they said unto him we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost he said unto them unto what then or for what purpose unto what then or what purpose were ye baptized they said unto John's baptism so here Paul is speaking to John the Baptist's disciples who have been baptized by John then said Paul John verely baptized with the baptism of repentance saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him that is on Christ Jesus now when they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Jesus and when Paul had laid his hands upon them the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied and all of the men were about 12 you see John's baptism is like coupons that you get today that have an expiration date on them oh they're valid they're good up to this time you could take them in a store and as long as the date is there they're good that the date it's still in't good but you see John the Baptist baptism was only valid up to the day of Pentecost after after the day of Pentecost John the Baptist baptism was was invalid it was no good it had lasted its duration it was there it was the will of God Scripture said it was the counsel and the will of God for men to be baptized by John as a matter as a matter of fact the disciples came one time and tri the the Pharisees came one time excuse me and tried to entrap Jesus Christ and and and uh they were trying to get in answer something to try to entrap him and and he said well before I answer this said let me ask you a question the baptism of John was it a baptism of men did it come from men or was it baptism that came from Heaven from God and they got off in a little Quorum and they said man we're we're we're really in trouble here uh uh because if if we say it was a baptism brought up of men then everybody's been baptized and they're going to be mad at us and then if we step out there and we say well the baptism was from Heaven from God then Jesus is going to say then why were you baptized so it was a counsel of God so John's disciples were re-baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and that baptism has been valid now and will be valid until such a day as the Lord comes back for his church why don't you be baptized this morning in Jesus mighty name why don't you disobey the scripture
