Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Take not thy Holy Spirit from me: creation and re-creation

  • The preacher opens with Psalms 51:11 — David, a broken and humbled man, cried, cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.
  • In Genesis 2:7 God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul: man is a product of two materials, one worth nothing and one beyond price.
  • Sin knocked the breath out of man; but God had a plan to put the breath back, and in John 20 Jesus breathed on his disciples and said, receive ye the Holy Ghost — a foretaste of the day of Pentecost.
  • Genesis is creation and John is re-creation: he breathed into man and created him, and he breathed again into man and re-created him; without God's Spirit, man is only dust.

Scriptures: Psalm 51:11; Genesis 2:7; John 20:21-22

The promise of the Father, from Isaiah and Joel to Pentecost

  • In Luke 24:49 Jesus sends the promise of his Father and commands them to tarry in Jerusalem until they are endued with power from on high.
  • In Acts 1:4-5 the command is repeated: wait for the promise of the Father — John truly baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
  • The promise was the Father's own, spoken in the Old Testament: in Isaiah 44:1-3 he says to Jacob his servant, I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.
  • In Joel 2:28 he promises, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh — your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.

Scriptures: Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-5; Isaiah 44:1-3; Joel 2:28

How much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit

  • From Luke 11:9-13: ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you — for every one that asketh receiveth.
  • No father gives his son a stone for bread, a serpent for a fish, or a scorpion for an egg; if earthly fathers, being evil, know how to give good gifts, how much more shall the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him.
  • We do not have to beg for God's presence; we have only to let him know we realize how much we need it — not as an experience received years ago, but twenty-four hours a day, on the job and in the house.

Scriptures: Luke 11:9-13

Another Comforter: the Spirit of truth who will abide forever

  • In John 14:15-18 Jesus promises another Comforter — one summoned to one's side to help — who will abide with them forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it seeth him not, but who dwelleth with them and shall be in them.
  • In John 14:26 the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in his name, will teach them all things and bring all things to their remembrance — in God's presence we remember what God has already brought us through.
  • In John 16:7 it is expedient — to their advantage — that Jesus go away, for if he goes not away, the Comforter will not come; we have the same thing the book of Acts had, not something less.
  • The mansions of John 14:1-3 are not a building project in heaven: he went away to prepare a place as our mediator, that where he is, there we may be also — spiritually in the throne room when we call on his name.
  • John 14:6 seals it: I am the way, the truth, and the life — Jesus was the person of truth, and the Holy Ghost we carry is the Spirit of truth.

Scriptures: John 14:15-18; John 14:26; John 16:7; John 14:1-3; John 14:6

Ye must be born again: born of water and of the Spirit

  • In John 3:5-7 there is no wiggle room: except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God — that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit; ye must be born again.
  • The water itself does not matter — a baptismal pool, a creek, a river, or the Jordan river are all water — but the Spirit matters: the new birth takes both.
  • In Mark 16:16-17, he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, and the signs follow the believers: in his name they cast out devils and speak with new tongues.
  • He tells of a sincere man who challenged him after a television broadcast — baptism doesn't save you — and his answer from the word: the like figure in Noah's day, where baptism also now saves us; it does not read, he that believeth is saved and should be baptized.

Scriptures: John 3:5-7; Mark 16:16-17; 1 Peter 3:21

Stammering lips and another tongue: this is the rest and the refreshing

  • In Isaiah 28:9-11, those weaned from the milk and drawn from the breast are taught knowledge precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little and there a little — and with stammering lips and another tongue God speaks to his people: this is the rest, and this is the refreshing.
  • The journey he describes is that very pattern: believing a little, then hearing of tongues, then the name of Jesus in baptism and the revelation of who he is — a little truth here and a little more there, until the refreshing comes.
  • Paul takes up the same verses in 1 Corinthians 14:18-21 — I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all, yet in the church he would rather speak five words with understanding than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue; the misuse is corrected, not the gift.
  • He returns to Isaiah 28:12 and sets the two readings side by side — yet they would not hear — and asks what more God could do: he robed himself in flesh, hung on the cross, ascended, and sent the Holy Ghost back.
  • He tells how his own journey started as a seven-year-old boy at a vacation Bible school, weeping over a flannel-board lesson of the ark — if you're not in the ark you drown — and invites anyone on that journey to pray this week: God, if you have something for me, I want it.

the next few moments help me in jesus name we all pray amen and amen you may be seated sister erickson tonight what little bit i have ease dropped on you musicians and singers and songwriters they'll sometimes gather here at the church for a songwriting session they they gather for a songwriting session to the best that this less than qualified man to talk about songwriting could say it sounds like to me that a song is written from the heart of the songwriter seems like the deeper that he went through a trial or she went through a trial the the more they're able to put that to pen and paper and the more they're able to sing of the darkness of the night because they've been there i thought about that today as i for several several days church strong tower i have i have been arrested in my spirit i have been arrested it is almost as if god has a holy grip on my mind about how much we need his spirit we need his spirit we can never regulate god's spirit between ten o'clock sunday morning and twelve noon sunday and six o'clock sunday night and eight o'clock sunday night and 7 30 wednesday night till nine o'clock on wednesday night god's spirit has to have more than just a few hours of our week when i read my bible i not only read where the bible says that we are filled with the spirit but i also read where the bible says we are to walk we are to walk in the spirit so the psalmist a broken man penned the words in 51 11. don't cast me away from your presence god don't cast me away from your presence and god do not take your holy spirit from me when a man is reduced to needing the essential things of life david simply cried out i need your presence god don't ever take your holy spirit away from my life how important the holy ghost is i am far more accustomed to saying the word holy ghost in genesis chapter 2 and verse number 7 giving us details of the creation of man you and i giving us details of the creation of man and the lord god formed man of the dust of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul man was made a product of two listed materials one was worth nothing dust the other you cannot put a price tag on god you cannot put a price tag on god man was breathed into the nostrils and man became a living soul but between genesis 2 and 7 and john 20 and 21 sin entered the human race and if i could use the word to relate have you ever had the breath knocked out of you boy that is one of the most miserable few well it seems like eternity but when you have the breath knocked out of you well can i tell you that's exactly what sin did sin knocked the breath out of man sin took the life out of man but old praise be to god he loves us that he had a plan to put the breath back in us he breathed into us in genesis 2 and 7 and in john 20 and 21 he gave them a little foretaste of what would happen on the day of pentecost in john 20 and 21 then said jesus to them again peace be unto you as my father has sent me even so sinned i you and when he had said this he breathed on them and said unto them receive ye the holy ghost what i have just read to you between genesis 2 and 7 and john 20 and 21 was creation genesis 2-7 and re-creation john 20 21 he breathed into man and created him he breathed again into man and recreated man we have creation and recreation and then we must understand this in john 20 21 that they did not receive the holy ghost there that was him just simply connecting the value of the spirit of god that later as the scripture would be put together we could see the importance of the spirit of god we could see and understand because all man is without god's spirit is dust that's all we are from dust we come from and dust we return that's all we are is dust but that one invaluable thing the spirit of god we know that in luke chapter 24 verse number 49 some of the last words jesus spoke before he ascended into heaven he says in luke 24 49 and behold i send the promise watch the wording i send the promise of my father upon you i send the promise would you say promise i send the promise of my father upon you the terry ye in the city of jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high he said wait in jerusalem because the promise the promise the promise the promise of the father is going to come the promise the father has made you a promise what is this promise acts chapter 1 verse number 4 and being assembled together with them commanded them that they should not depart from jerusalem but wait for the promise of the father which saith he you have heard of me for john truly baptized with water but ye shall be baptized with the holy ghost not many days hence what is the promise of the father the promise of the father is that re-creation the promise of the father is him saying i put my breath into you at creation and sin knocked the breath out of you but now i'm going to put my breath one more time into you i'm so thankful for that tonight the only thing of comfort to us tonight is the holy ghost the only thing of peace to us tonight is the holy ghost the only thing that gives us hope is the holy ghost the promise of the father it's mentioned that it is the promise of the father and it exactly is is that because turn back in the old testament and listen to the father talk in isaiah chapter 44 verse number one listen to the father listen to him in isaiah 44 and 1. now here o jacob my servant and israel whom i have chosen thus saith the lord that made thee see the connection thus saith the lord that made thee and form thee from the womb which will help thee anybody need any help tonight which will help thee fear not o jacob my servant and there jeshurun whom i have chosen you say what is that gesher in there it is a it is a romantic phrase that god has for his people it's it's it's almost like when you say to your wife darling or honey by honey bun or honey honey pie you know all of those nice little things that you see we're getting ready for marriage or food all of those oh sweetheart now all of those all of those things that just is a romantic way aren't you thankful god's in love with the church god's in love with the church whom i have chosen now watch the promise of the father in verse number three for i will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground i will pour my spirit upon thy seed and my blessings upon thine offspring there's the promise of the father the old testament he says i'm going to pour my spirit i'm going to pour my spirit upon thy seed well it didn't stop there and i'm just trying to choose in a few verses of scripture but there's all kinds of scriptures in the old testament where god our father was making a promise i'm going to give you my spirit again i'm going to put my spirit back into you i guess the one that we would know the most would be joel chapter 2 and verse number 28 and it shall come to pass afterward that i will pour out of my spirit upon and i thank god for this all flesh i will pour my spirit out upon all flesh your sons your daughters shall prophesy your old men shall dream dreams and your young men shall see visions aren't you thankful tonight for the promise of the father i'm going to pour my spirit out upon you let's look at the nature of our god tonight jesus describing the nature says in luke chapter 11 verse number 9 let's go to the new testament luke's jesus is going to shine some light he says in verse 9 i say unto you ask and it shall be given you seek and you shall find not and it shall be open to you for everyone that asketh receiveth and he that seeketh findeth and to him that knocketh it shall be opened if a son shall ask bread of any of you that is what's the wording there is a father will he give him a stone or if he asks a fish will he for a fish give him a serpent or if he shall ask an egg will he offer him a scorpion now look at the analogy here he says you fathers if you have a son and he would ask you for bread would you give him a rock and the answer is obvious no i wouldn't give him a rock would you would you give him if he asked for a fish would you give him a serpent if he if he asked for an egg would you give him a scorpion and the answer is no no no i would give i would give my son something that he could eat then he says in verse 13 if ye then being evil now what's he's what he's saying here he's saying when i compare myself to you you are evil on your best day on your best day standing beside me you are evil that's why he said our righteousness is as filthy rags in his sight and i would not i wouldn't want to elaborate much on this other than to tell you that what god is referring to in the filthy rags was the rags that had that were outside of restrooms in rome uh finish it out all right and he was just simply saying the best that you can do in my presence is like a filthy rag you see we have to understand some things tonight he says if you being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children how much more shall your heavenly father give the holy spirit to them that ask him can i tell you tonight what i'm yearning for in my heart is god's presence in my life but i don't have to beg for god's presence i think i just have to let him know that i'm realizing just how much i need god's presence i thank god for my pentecostal experience but i'm not talking about an experience that you got years ago or an experience that you might got at sunday night service i'm talking about a 24 7 seven days a week whether you're at church or on your job or in your house just throwing your hands up and saying oh god i need your spirit come on could we do that right now lord i need well in john chapter 14 the gospel of john chapter 14 jesus is going to begin to tell us some things about the baptism of the holy ghost about the promise of the father he says in john 14 verse 15 if you love me if you love me keep my commandments and i will pray the father and he shall give you another look at this comforter another comforter now this word comforter in the greek means one that has been summoned one that has been summoned called to one side called to one side to help them he says i will pray the father and he shall give you another comforter now to have another comforter what comforter do you presently have jesus and what a comforter he would have been if we had walked with him those three and a half years what a comfort he would have been you wouldn't have got intimidated around the brightest of the s of the spiritses educated people would not have have intimidated you because jesus is right here he can tie him up in knots with one hand tied behind his back i mean he yeah and it wouldn't be a sickness that you'd have to turn away from because he could raise the dead he could unstop deaf ears he could lose tongues why there was nothing he could do the growling of the demons wouldn't deter you because all you had to do is just let jesus add them in before it was over they would be begging not to be bound he said i'm going to give you another comforter now obviously we don't we didn't live back in those days but can i tell you tonight i'm glad for that another comforter we'll realize that we have another comforter with us tonight we have another comforter he said i will i will pray the father and he will give you another comforter that he may abide with you forever now the first comforter which was him was not going to abide forever he came to this earth as a man to do a specific job but he said the other comforter is going to abide with you forever even the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive what is the comforter it's the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive why can't it receive it because it seeth him not neither knoweth him see the world can't receive this because they don't see him they don't know him but you know him wait a minute now he said the world can't receive the world can't receive it because it doesn't see and it doesn't know but look at the end of verse 17 he says but you know him we know him the other comforter for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you he he was he was explaining to them i am that comforter but i have come on a mission to pave away i have come on a mission to create a road ever since adam and eve fell there's been a deter to the garden of eden there's been a detour to life but jesus christ god robed in flesh said i've come to make a way you have no mediator in heaven but i have come to be that mediator and he says these words the world doesn't know him and the world cannot see him but you know him for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you i will not leave you comfortless i will come to you oh friend i want you to know tonight that if we can understand what we have when we have the spirit of god we have the spirit of jesus christ we have the spirit of jesus christ inside of us tonight why go down to verse number 26 but the comforter which is the holy ghost whom the father will send in my name he shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever i have said unto you i'm going to tell you something i'm so glad for that comforter living on the inside because sometimes we forget what god's done for us until we start magnifying and worshiping god how many of you forgot some things god has done for you but you got in the presence of god and began to worship him and all of a sudden you thought wait a minute i've faced a mountain like this before wait a minute i've faced something like this before god brought me through years ago and god will bring me through again he is he is that comforter we'll just turn over with me to john chapter 16 verse number 7 still talking about the comforter you'll notice if you're if you have in your bible where the words of jesus are in red you get to verse chapter 14 it stays completely read just about for several chapters chapter 16 verse number 7 listen to him nevertheless i tell you the truth it is expedient for you that i go away for if i go not away the comforter will not come unto you but if i depart i will send him unto you wait a minute he said it is expedient for you that i go away because if i don't go away the comforter cannot come i have to go be the mediator and able to unleash that breath of god back into the world and the word expedient means to your advantage to your advantage so let's stop wishing we live back in the bible days let's stop thinking that we missed it by a couple thousand years or what it would have been like to have been in the bible days well that's well and good but i'm glad for where i'm living right now because i'm not looking at the book of acts as if they got something better than we've got no they've got the same thing that we've got it is expedient he had to tell them he had to tell them i go away and their hearts were heavy let not your hearts be troubled i i go away to prepare a place for you and and i hate to burst anybody's bubble here but we hear verses preached at funerals uh and this is one john 14 1 uh let not your hearts be troubled uh well let me let me make sure i'm qu let not your heart be troubled john 14 1 let not your heart be troubled you believe in god believe also in me in my father's house are many mansions if it were not so i would have told you i go to prepare a place for you and if i go and prepare a place for you i will come again and receive you unto myself that where i am there you may be also we hear this preached and you know oh how he made the earth in so many days and he's been gone for 2 000 years as if as if jesus christ right now brother perry is a general contractor in heaven building mansions for us well let's read the scripture text right he didn't say i'm going away to build mansions he said in my father's house are many mansions i go to prepare a place for you that where i am there you may be also he's talking about being our mediator you do not man does not have a place of a mediator there's no mediator but when god became man and god hung on a tree and rose on the third day and ascended up into heaven the bible plainly tells us that he is our mediator well what's that part where i am there you may be also the bible says that we have not willed we have been made to sit with christ in heavenly places in christ jesus what's that talking about it's talking about right now right here depending on god's spirit tonight when we call out upon that mighty name of jesus spiritually we are in the throne room of heaven right now i go away to prepare a plot i'm glad he went away to prepare a place for me because had he oh hallelujah that's why it's important to say his name jesus that's why it's important to believe by faith when you say his name jesus i have felt this grip around me as if any time the last several days any time my mind has seemed to wonder it seems as if i have felt the grip of god say come back this direction and and understand how much you need my spirit how much you need my spirit the comforter the spirit of truth he said he the spirit of truth has come when he the spirit of truth has come well you see jesus christ according to john 14 and 6. jesus said unto him i am the way the truth and the life no man cometh unto the father but by me that's that mediator you see jesus christ sister carpenter was the person of truth but the holy ghost that you and i have tonight on the inside of us is the spirit of truth the church was birthed on the day of pentecost it's a matter of fact it takes a new birth to say you have the holy ghost john chapter three verse number five listen to the words of our master our savior john three and five jesus answered verily verily i say unto thee he doesn't mix his words there's no uh there there's no uh variance here there's no way of twisting this except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of god there's no wiggle room there the only way you get into the kingdom of god is through a new birth i didn't write it you can't get into the kingdom of god any other way but a new birth you've got to have a new birth he said except a man be born of the water of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of god now i'm just going to i'm just going to share something with you tonight would you please notice it didn't say the water because the water would have been a specific water but he did say the spirit it doesn't matter the water but it does matter the spirit doesn't matter the water you can get baptized in a baptismal pool it's water you can get baptized in a creek or you can spin a river you can spend 3 500 and fly to jerusalem get baptized in the jordan river but can i tell you something there's nothing different about the jordan river than this baptismal pool because it's water and you must be born again if you want to enter the kingdom say well i guess maybe you need to ask yourself some questions if you're asking are you telling me do i need to be baptized i'm asking you i would ask you do you want to enter the kingdom because the only way you can enter the kingdom is by water and being born again of the spirit i don't know about you but i'm glad that i know this message i am so glad listen watch this follow follow it follow me that which is born of the flesh is flesh that which is born of the spirit is spirit marvel not that i said unto thee you see if you can find some wiggle room here ye must be born again any wiggle room there must he must be born again plain and simple a birth it has to happen it has to happen jesus spoke further about this new birth in mark 16 16 he said he now he goes before the water because the birth involves water and spirit but jesus takes a step back before the water and the spirit and he says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned how many times people have went to great extent to try to say baptism doesn't save you baptism doesn't play a role in your salvation i'm sorry but the bible says it does i you know the bible says it does a gentleman came to my table sometime back at a restaurant and knelt down and he's very kind to me he's very kind man i think he was a very sincere man he had a few compliments and i've been around long enough to know that you don't really start getting too puffed up on a compliment because sometimes the compliment is the prelude to a rebuke and he told me he's a bunch of things that he he was impressed with and then he said this he said oh the other night on tv he said you made a statement that just shocked me and said i i i've been praying and i told the lord i just told the lord if i ever meet you i was i was going to let you know but you said baptism saves and son baptism doesn't save you and i said sir you seem to be a very sincere man and and but and i believe you love god but you're saying something that's absolutely contradicting word for word what the bible says first peter 3 the light figure water noah's day the light figure where for where baptism death now also save us he that believeth doesn't it doesn't read he that believeth is saved and should be baptized it says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned and a lot of they spent some energy here and they will say notice this it doesn't say but he that believeth not and is not baptized shall be damned jesus knew that he didn't have to add baptism to it because if you did not believe it wouldn't matter if you got baptized so much the tadpoles knew your social security number it wouldn't matter all right you would go in a dry center and come up a wet center that's the only thing that would happen but when we believe you must be born again of the water and the spirit now he deals with he deals with in one verse those that would not believe you would be damned but now he continues in verse 17 he continues in verse number 17 of of the book of mark and he says and these signs shall follow them that believe okay the believers have got some signs that are going to follow them all right and these signs shall follow them that believe in my name they shall cast out shall they cast out devils they shall speak this is jesus now they shall speak with what new tongues so the birthmark of the church was the believer spoke in another language by the power of god that was unknown to them but again this is not a new testament thing speaking in tongues in isaiah chapter 28 and verse number 9 back to the old testament in isaiah chapter 28 and verse number 9 listen to god whom shall he teach knowledge who shall he teach knowledge and whom shall he make to understand doctrine them that are winged from the milk and drawn from the breast now the imagery here is is of an infant that needs his mother's milk but he wants to teach them knowledge just a side note here that when the spirit of truth comes he will lead you and guide you into all truth right he will lead you and teach you whom shall he teach knowledge whom shall he make to understand doctrine them that are winged from the milk and drawn from the breast for precept we heard about that sunday didn't we precept precept must be upon precept precept upon precept lying up online line up online here a little and they're a little what's he what's he talking about leading you to the baptism of the holy ghost you start off in your infancy believing trusting adhering to but you don't stay with that mental ascent that you believe that he's your savior you you're drawn from the breast and your wing from the milk of just simply believing and then precepts word starts coming precept upon precept here a little and there a little and unless you were born into the apostolic church unless you were you know if you're born in it you you just came up believing this but if you wasn't born in it you probably have got a tract that you kind of come to god you started believing and and then that wasn't enough for you and you you heard maybe where some people were praying and speaking in tongues and and you got involved in that but and you were sincere in that but then you got in that and then you begin to hear about some people that were emphasizing the name of jesus in water baptism and that jesus was the almighty god and holiness unto the lord separation from the world how many came that way how many came that way you weren't born in the church you wasn't like beckham last last wednesday night beckham a little five-year-old boy that just come up here and received the holy ghost he's got apostolic parents and apostolic grandparents and apostolic great-grandparents and and all of that how many in here came that route and you started believing it but you still wasn't satisfied there still was something that although they were just telling you to be satisfied you you somehow knew that there had to be more and you got among some folks yourself hey we're speaking in other tongues and you begin to speak in other tongues but then again there was something still there that it wasn't quite and you got baptized in jesus name and then you got the revelation of who he is you know that's bible is it not hear a little there a little verse number 11 for with stammering lips and another tongue will he who's the he god will he speak to his people to whom he said this is the rest where with ye may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing yet they would not hear oh my friend god said hear a little there are little stammering lips and another tongue would god speak to his people and he said this is the refreshing and this is the rest do you want rest on your journey be baptized in jesus name and filled with the baptism of the holy ghost you will you will thirst for more of him but you will not thirst for more of him in the fact that you don't have him this is the rest and this is the refreshing paul this verse is speaking about tongues because when paul was addressing the subject of tongues in first corinthians chapter 8 14 excuse me first corinthians chapter 14 and verse number 18. isaiah 28 that i just read is referencing speaking about tongues speaking about and again it amazes me to what extent to what extreme what extent that people go to try to disprove the bible for example there's commentaries that say well israel had sinned and god was going to put judgment on them and so god let foreigners come that jabbered in another language and god was going to teach them a lesson through this well you might have a leg to stand on if god didn't say this is the rest and this is the refreshing now god doesn't call punishing his children i i you know i had to spank my children a few times and i didn't get these spanking them coming said whew that was refreshing man that was oh that was refreshing i just wore them out man that was refreshing to me no what does it go any of you parents in here that are worth your salt it's going to hurt me more than it hurts you i promise you it's going to hurt you more than it it's going to hurt yeah it's going to hurt me that might have been the truth going to hurt me more than it hurts you why because you love them so he ain't talking about he's not talking about syrians coming up jabbering in another tongue he was talking about if you'll get winged from the breast drawn from the breast wing from the milk and if you'll get around and you get a little truth here and a little bit more truth there and hear a little there a little he says and all of a sudden all of a sudden with stammering lips and another tongue god's gonna speak to you and when you get the holy ghost friend it's gonna be the rest a matter of fact the the the the the peter said it like this it's joy unspeakable and it's full of glory somebody said tell me what the holy ghost is like i can't tell you what it's like i can start trying to describe it what is it like being drunk no it's nothing like being drunk what's it like being high no it's nothing like you know when you when i i remember back before christ when i'd get high i got paranoid i thought everybody was out to arrest me so i can't say having the holy ghost is like being high because i've never been paranoid now that i've got the holy ghost because goodness and mercy is following us oh aren't you thankful tonight i've just felt like god's had me in a grip i am thankful for the holy ghost i am thankful for the spirit of god there is nothing on this earth like the holy ghost it's joy unspeakable paul used these verses in first corinthians 14 18 when he was correcting the misuse of tongues of course i love verse 18 because a lot of folks twist paul's words to try to say tongues is not for us anymore and all this i love to quote paul i thank my god i speak with tongues more than you all yet in the church i had rather speak five words with my understanding that by my voice i might teach others also than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue now let me stop there and tell you what this is not saying and i'll tell you what it is saying now i'm gonna tell you what i'm gonna tell you what it's not saying it's not saying that we're out of order to speak in tongues in church it is saying we are out of order when we speak in tongues so loud that you can't hear the preacher preach that's what it's saying it's not saying you you're not to speak in tongues in the church it's what the corinthians were doing they were abusing tongues tongues is edifying paul said tongues will edify you so man they were getting edified i mean they'd open up the service praying in tongues the song leader would get up and sing in tongues the preacher would get up and preach in tongues and paul just came along and said first i'm going to tell you i'm glad i speak in tongues more than you all yet in the church i would rather i would rather speak five words with my understanding because that's what our corporate gathering is for is for teaching and proclaiming he's not saying that we're not to speak in tongues he's saying if you do it so loud that that's all anyone hears he says listen to him verse number 19. yet in the church i had i i had rather speak five words with my understanding that by my voice i might teach others also than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue brethren be not children in understanding how be it in malice be ye children but in understanding be men in other words you know what he's saying grow up church is not all about your being edified grow up brethren be not children in understanding how beard and malice be your children but in understanding be men in the law it is written with men of other tongues and other lips will i speak unto this people and yet for all that they will not hear me saith the lord now i got hung up on this because he talks about god talks about the holy ghost and then he says and yet for all that and yet for all that look at that he says and yet for all that now go back go back to isaiah 28 and 12. look at how isaiah reads it to whom he said isaiah 28 12 to whom he said this is the rest wherewith he may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing yet they would not hear paul says it this way and yet for all that they will not hear me can i ask you one thing what more could god do for us what more what could we ask god more for than his spirit back inside of us what more could god give us oh praise be his holy name what more could god give us cars will rust money money can be squandered away but for god to give us once again his spirit o church what more could god do for you what more could god promise us god is not against you god is for you what more could god do he came to this earth he robed himself in flesh he hung on a cross he ascended up into heaven and then he sent the holy ghost back if we will believe and be baptized we can have god's what more could god stand with me tonight what more could god do for us what more what more could god do for us what what more for god to you see we got to rejoice tonight we got to rejoice nobody no spirit-filled person should leave this building tonight uh depress down and out and oh i don't have this and i don't you might not have a car like everybody else and you might not have a wage like everybody else and you might not have a lot of things like everybody else but the one thing we can all have is the main thing and that's the promise of the holy ghost oh let's just worship him right now the promise come on let's praise him right now lord i want the promise of the father oh god i want the promise of the father lord i want you god inside of me lord i don't want to ever take you for granted lord i don't want to ever take your spirit for granted lord it's not my money that's my safety lord it's not my talents that's my safety god it's not anything that i can touch on i'm thankful as a seven-year-old boy at vacation bible school a flannel board chart maybe that that's really gonna date me right now sitting in a classroom i think i was seven years old it had a flannel board chart with a little ark on it and everybody that was in the ark got saved from the flood if you wasn't in the ark you drowned and then he turned it around and he said if you're not in the cross you're going to go to hell and i raised myself how many in this class want jesus in your heart i raised my hand i cried i remember sitting a little fat face boy i cried i lit my hand and you know that my journey started but then we got a little bit more here mama got the mama got to dabbling around with the apostolic church and you know you just look at it this way if you keep coming down by the muddy riverbank you're going to slide in all right you're going to slide in soon so if you're here tonight in tongues is something you know you've heard all these things i just want you to pray
