Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
When It Is Our Turn for Trouble
- He has the congregation stand and reads his text, Job 4:1-5: you have instructed many and strengthened the weak hands; your words have upheld him that was falling; but now it is come upon you, and you are troubled.
- His announced subject is the filed title: what do we do when it is our turn for trouble — when trouble comes not to someone else, but to us.
- Trouble is no respecter of persons: it comes as lost work, sickness and diagnosis, and family pain, and people who have lived for God are not exempt from it.
- He distinguishes God's trying from the devil's tempting: God does not tempt any man, but every man God used in the Bible was first put to the test.
- He tells of Brother Guevara, a missionary in Spain hospitalized with the virus, as a present-day picture of trouble coming to the righteous.
Scriptures: Job 4:1-5
Abraham: Between the Promise and the Commandment
- Genesis 22:1 is read: God did try Abraham, and Abraham answered, Behold, here am I.
- The commandment follows in verse 2: take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and offer him there for a burnt offering.
- Between a promise and a commandment there is a lot of pain: Abraham must take the very promise God gave him and lay it on the altar.
- Worship has not always been easy: praise is cheap when the report is good, but praise in the difficult day becomes a sacrifice, and that is when it means most to God.
Scriptures: Genesis 22:1-2
Good Fathers Provide
- Genesis 3:21 is cited: unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them — God provided for the first family.
- Noah was a good father: the first thing he did when he came out of the ark was build an altar and offer burnt offerings on it.
- Proverbs 1:8 is read: my son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
- Good fathers stay in touch with God during the good times, so that when the trying times come they are not far from him.
Scriptures: Genesis 3:21; Genesis 8:20; Proverbs 1:8
God Will Provide Himself a Lamb
- The journey is read from verse 3: Abraham rose up early in the morning, took Isaac and the wood of the burnt offering, and told the young men, I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
- Isaac asks where the lamb for a burnt offering is, and Abraham answers with Genesis 22:8: my son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering.
- Heaven interrupted the sacrifice: as Abraham reached for the knife he was stopped, and a ram was found caught by its horns in a thicket behind him.
- The test was also about the second generation: Isaac, a young man who could have overpowered his elderly father, willingly let himself be bound and laid on the wood.
Scriptures: Genesis 22:3-5; Genesis 22:8
By Faith Abraham
- Hebrews 11 is opened at verse 17: by faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac, accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead.
- Genesis is not chiefly about creation — only a few chapters are given to it; the vast amount of the book is given to one man, and that man is noted for having faith.
- When God asks something that seems contrary to the promise, we have to sit down and do some figuring: God is able to mix the commandment with the promise and bring something out for our good, for all the promises of God in Christ are yes.
Scriptures: Hebrews 11:17-19
Commandment, Then Promise, in Acts
- Acts 1:1-4 is read: after his passion Jesus, through the Holy Ghost, gave commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen, commanding them not to depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father.
- Acts 2:1-4 is read: and when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- Chapter 1, verses 1 through 4, is the commandment; chapter 2, verses 1 through 4, is the fulfilling of that commandment, which is the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
- He closes with prayer for the church families watching from their homes — that faith would replace fear — and a benediction.
Scriptures: Acts 1:1-4; Acts 2:1-4

attempts a word with you his friend Elif I was speaking to job and said if one attempts a word with you will you become weary but who can withstand himself from speaking surely you have instructed many and you have strengthened we can your words have upheld him who was stumbling and you have strengthened the feeble knees but now it comes to you and you are weary it touches you and you are troubled it's for a few moments this morning I want to minister to you on when it's our turn for trouble when it's our turn for trouble father I ask you today that you would anoint your servant I ask you today Lord that you would touch my heart touch my mind helped me to be able to articulate help me to be able to build faith in you in these most troubling times annoying the word of the messenger let faith the rise of the hearts in Jesus name we pray amen and amen when it's our turn for trouble the last few days I have been thinking most of the time a national catastrophe be it a hurricane on the East Coast or be it an earthquake on the west coast or be it the auto industry collapsing in the north a school shooting or tornadoes seems like to me that as I'm addressing you from the church I pastor in East Tennessee that anytime a national catastrophe came it was always we were always praying for someone down in Florida and up in Michigan or California but now it's all of our return for trouble trouble is not just come to the east coast or the west coast the world could be defined this morning with the word trouble Joe after his trouble his friends gathered and the first one to speak with Elif as and Elif as simply begins and say we need to speak with you Joe and we don't want you to be weary we need to we need to tell so what you Joe because it has come your turn for trouble job you have you have held people up when they were having trouble standing when people were stumbling job you were the strong-armed in the strong legs that held someone from stumbling and Joe when someone was their knees were buckling and you were the one there to strengthen the weary and the feeble knees you've been the one job when somebody was trouble with sickness you member one job to show up joven somebody had to bury a child or a mate you were the one to show up Joe when somebody and went bankrupt someone's crops didn't come in Joe you were the one you you job you were the one that came you were the one but Ella fast said Joe it's now your turn for trouble it's now that trouble has come to your door and he says are you weary it's touched you and your trouble in other words what LF I was trying to say to Joe vyas we're watching you Joe we're watching you now that trouble has come to your door because it's real easy to tell somebody to have faith in God when they're in trouble but it's another thing to keep your faith in God when you are in trouble seem like you be transparent with you today seems like that I can pray for miracles of sick people all over until the sickness comes to my house seem like I can believe God that God is going to work financial situations out at you they come to my house or cancer until it comes to my house so I've come today feeling like the Lord is saying now the trouble has come to you East Tennessee now that trouble has come to you FAC church family how are you going to act now now that it's your turn to have trouble how are you going to act well Jo might have had some lows and no doubt some of us may have some blow times Jo might have had some times of not understanding and I believe that we're all in a in a time right now I'm simply not understanding this trying to find out the cause and etc etc but could we this morning in homes all over our county state nation and world could we understand that the church's finest hour has not been in an hour of prosperity that the church's finest hour has not been our high attendance on Easter but the church's finest hour will be recorded that in the midst of kovin 19 we kept the faith we praise thee we worship Him we magnified him we believed in him we had more prayer more praying more reading more witnessing it's our turn for trouble it's our turn for trouble Abraham had certainly had his fair shares of ups and downs but it seemed like that life had planed out seemed like that the many years of trusting and believing for the impossible for an old man and old woman to have a child seemed like we finally got our Isaac Isaac is grown up and the family is kind of evened out and mistakes Ishmael and Hagar they've been put in the right place it seemed like that Abraham could open up his tent door that morning and he had a lot of deep valleys and high mountains and times of doubt behind him he had mistakes behind in the head Hagar and Ishmael they were behind him I see him as he opens up his tent door that morning and Isaac being a young man he sees his promise all healthy kind of like this seemed like our economy got turned around seemed like stock market was day after day after day after day kept breaking the sealing jobs are plenteous and seem like one morning we opened up not too many weeks ago we opened up our doors and we were singing the song the good days the happy days are here again man but all of a sudden cove in nineteen come trouble has come April ham had that happened to him says in Genesis chapter 22 verse number 1 and it came to pass after these things what are these things Hagar mistakes all the trying times are in Abraham's pass after these things that God did tempt Abraham for testing him he said unto Abraham Abraham and he said Behold here am I you know for that one verse right there I want to extrapolate this one thought from that one verse in good times and good times stay in touch with God in good time stay in touch with God Bible said these are good times Genesis 22:1 these are good time God said Abraham and Abraham said to hold here month let's stay in touch let's stay in touch with God during the good times for obvious reasons I want to have my line of communication open during good times because bad times have come and bad times will come Abraham and he said Behold am I here my knee he said now take now thy son not only son Isaac whom thou lovest give me unto the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I will tell thee now you have to understand brother him and the dilemma that Abraham finds himself in he finds himself between a promise and a commandment a promise and a commandment now this is one of the most difficult places for a child of God to be between what God has promised and what God is commanding you see God promised Abraham that he would bear and Sarah would bear a seed it wasn't Ishmael if smell was the work of the flesh it was a God produced child a promise God made a promise pardon the pun promises made promises gift promises delivered when God makes a promise when God makes a promise God has never failed on one promise that he ever made because when God makes the promise nothing can stand in God's ways so God promised Abraham and Sarah a child and God delivered on the promised God gave them their eyes but now I'm not only living in the promise I'm living with a commandment because God has now said I want you to take Isaac which is your promise and I want you to offer him up as a burnt offering I want you to build an altar I want you to cut his throat drain his blood strike a match and let him be totally consumed upon this altar so Abraham finds himself between a promise and a command so how am I going to function when I'm in between a promise and a command I want you to hold on to the to the promise and the command and the Bible said in verse 3 and Abraham rose up early in the morning saddled his ass and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son and claimed the wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went into the place of which God had told you then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off and Abraham said unto his young men abide ye here with the ass I and the lad will go yonder and worship and come again to you Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it upon Isaac his son he took the fire in his hand and a knife and they went both of them to get a hold onto that and they went both of them together and they went both of them together can you see Abraham taking the wood off of the the animal and laying it on on Isaac's back and one of the servants handed him the fire the torch and another servant handed him a long knife pay for him the knife into his belt holds the fire in his hands and Isaac is a little stupa cuz he's carrying the wood and see the scene now Abraham and Isaac Isaac has the wood abraham has the fire in the night and what you're seeing here is nothing more than the promise and the commandment worshiping together you see the promise and the commandment worshiping together and they went both of them together and as expected to Abraham his father sometimes the promise needs to speak the promise speaks and the promise said my father and he said here am I my son and he said Behold a fire and the wood but where is the lamb for a burnt offering who where is the lamb you know seems like in difficult times when we're living between a promise of a commandment that the first question we begin to ask is where's the lamb where's God where's God at you can go on and go Google and just type in where was God on 9/11 where was God a lot 11 times of Kobe 19 people are saying where where's God can I tell you today God is where he's always been he rules and reigns from heaven his throne has never been disrupted by 911s great depressions world wars atomic bombs God's throne is never suffered any setback god rules and reigns in the heavens sometimes we ask where's the lamp maybe no doubt there's those of you I know we have a a missionary today in Spain brother Guevara who's in the hospital they're being diagnosed with the virus his young sons at home his wife there just a few days ago they came and took the missionary for the hospital and had not heard they have not heard since you can't tell me that that family isn't asking the question today where's the lamb where whistle ham hat today there's people here in me today that's unemployed there's people here in Medan name that that made me have a fevered brow you're a believer and you're beginning to ask yourself where is the lamb there's nothing wrong with that even Jesus Christ himself hanging on a cross said my God my God why even he the man had a question as to why but the promise the son he said but where's the lamb sister Hannah since the hand of the day this Isaac said where where's lamb this wasn't Isaac's first time to worship with his father this wasn't Isaac's first time to to be in a worship setting Isaac was familiar with worship Abraham was a good father Abraham had taken Isaac to worship worship was a routine worship was a process Isaac was familiar with worship he knew there was things needed such as wood he knew there was things needed such as fire he knew there was things needed such as a knife he knew there was things knew such as a lamb but now Isaac is saying father there's something missing here you see good fathers and to those of you that are around your computer today with your family you're a good father because good fathers teach their children how to worship good fathers teach their children what worship looks like how worship feels our Father our Creator was the first one to demonstrate what worship would look like when Adam and Eve fell in sin our God our Creator our Father came down and the Bible said in Genesis 3:21 and unto Adam also into his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins and clued them you see we served a good father today and he said I I would I want to demonstrate before you because trouble is coming your way sin brings trouble and troubles coming your way but you need to have you need to have a remedy for trouble and our remedy for trouble is worship our remedy when trouble comes our way when trouble comes to our house our remedy is not to count God but our remedy is to trust God as never before to trust the hand of God that is our God showed him God showed Adam and Eve an innocent animal must be slain blood must be shed his carcass his skin must be turned in two coats of skins so that you can be clothed Noah was a good father Genesis 8 2000 build an altar just the first thing he did when he came out the art didn't even have a home but the first thing he built was an altar and he took clean beasts they've ever cleaned fowl and offered burnt offerings on the altar imagine that first thing you'd want when you got off the art but build a home get settled in we'll go to church let's get the garden planted let's get a whole meal then we'll go to church but not a good father for a good father knows that worship becomes before financial security worship comes before anything else because if worship is lacking koban 19 wins Solomon was a good father proverbs chapter 1 verse number 8 my son hear the instructions of my father and forsake not the law of God mother Abraham was a good father because in times of being between a promise and a commandment Abraham was going to fulfill the commitment where is the lamb the promise is saying today doesn't look very promising where is the lamb who only to hear abraham in genesis 22:8 and Abraham said my son God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering notice this so they went both of them together the promise says where's the lamb the promise says where's the lamb but then the commandment speaks up if the commandment says God is going to make a way where there seems to be no way take heart be of good cheer Church of the Living God don't allow fear to rob you and rape you our God whom we serve is well able to deliver us from this Kovic 19:10 should you give God praise in your homes today Oh between a promise between a promise that I and a commandment there's a lot of pain between the promise and a commandment how painful it must have been to take my promise and to know I'm going to sacrifice my problems can I tell you that worship has not always been easy praise has not always been easy doing what's right that's not always been easy but do you know it is in the difficult times then it becomes a sacrifice oh it's easy to say praise the Lord when your broker has called you and said those stops if you pay a few dollars for or now one of a hundred dollars oh it's easy to lift your hands and say praise be to God it's easy for the for the supervisor to come down the line and say $2.00 raises an hour for everyone starting on Monday oh it's easy to lift your hands up and say praise the Lord but what about when your broker calls you and say those stops that were worth a thousand are now worth a hundred or that that that supervisor comes walking down the line and says today clean out your closets we're shutting down as of Monday and we don't know when we're going to be open it is then that I praise to God means more to God in that day because you're not praising him for the promise you're praising him because he said I will never leave you nor ever forsake you and they went both of them together Abraham how did you do that well Hebrews chapter 11 in verse number 17 kind of lets us know what was going on in his mind by faith Abraham by faith Abraham see a lot of times going to sew this in your consideration a lot of times people believe we have the book of Genesis so that we have the story of creation and they believe that that Genesis is all about creation do you know that only a few chapters was given to to creation just a few words a few verses but do you know the vast amount of chapters and verses in Genesis is dedicated to one man and that one man is noted for having faith by faith Abraham when he was tried or could I say troubled offered up Isaac and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son of whom it was said that in Isaac shall thy seed be called accounting accounting and you got to do some figuring if God has ever asked us to do something that seems contrary to the promise you've got to sit down and figure some things out that God is able regardless of the commandment regardless of what we give in the commandment God is able to mix the commandment with the promise and bring something out for our good for all things work together I guess that's the promise and the commandment he said accounting that God was able to raise him up even from the dead from whence he also received him in opinion in other words he began to say I'm going to follow the commandment I'm going to take Isaac I'm going to bind him with ropes I'm going to lay him on the altar I'm going to drain his blood I'm going to strike match I'm going to allow my promise to be utterly consumed to ashes and then after I stand there with the ashes I'm going to believe the God of promise I'm going to believe that God said that I would have descendants numerous as the sand of the sea numerous as the Stars and he said if I have to I'll scoop up the ashes and I'll believe that God can take the ashes and can resurrect the promise out of the ashes oh I don't know what all covin 19 it's going to do in our community I don't know all that covet 19 he's going to do in our economy but I serve a God who the Bible said that all the promises in Christ Jesus are yes and I'm going to serve Oh hallelujah to the lamb you see the promise is greater that can bend the commandment the promise is greater than commend the commandment think about this for a moment we have Commandments they don't always go with our flesh they're always do with our flesh sometimes they're difficult we don't understand them the commandments but a commandment from God has never been fulfilled to what we did not enjoy the wonderful promise of God and that's chapter 1 verse number one the former treatise have I made oh Theophilus of all that Jesus began both to do and teach until the day notice this now until the day which he was taken up after that through the Holy Ghost he had that were now Commandments unto his apostles whom he had chosen to whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs being seen of them forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God notice verse four and being assembled together with them commanded is that word again but they should not depart from Jerusalem but wait for the promise of the Father which saith II you have heard of me isn't it amazing that acts the first two chapters of the book of Acts acts 1 1 through 4 is Jesus giving the commandment but acts 2 1 through 4 and when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one Accord in one place suddenly that came a sound from heaven as a rushing mighty wind and it filled all the house where they were sitting there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire and it said upon each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance look acts 1 through Acts chapter 1 1 through 4 a commandment but Acts chapter 2 1 through 4 the fulfilling of that commandment which is the baptism of the Holy Ghost he took him by musicians with Chum he took him he took his Isaac he offered he bound him up that must have been something there had to be a time that Abraham had to turn and say Isaac you asked me a question coming up the mountain you said where's the land and I told you that God would provide Isaac you're the sacrifice Isaac the amazing thing is is most Bible scholars and commentaries say that Isaac was a young man a teenage boy who could have easily overpowered his elderly father he could the promise could have looked at the commandant and said you're crazy you're you're crazy that's old-fashioned but the promise willingly stuck his hands out and the commandment bound him up laid him down on the wood and Abraham went as far as to reach and get the night when heaven interrupted can I tell you Church Heaven's gonna interrupt us our lives have been inundated with komen 19 but because we're walking with God Kevin's going to interrupt us heaven said Abraham don't touch the child from now on no but you love me I'm all of a sudden behind Abraham he heard a ram caught by its horns in the picket he offered it up some say that that hoe test was about Abraham maybe so but I believe that the test too is about the second generation the Isaacs the second generation you see it's a generation of baby boomers there's a generation you don't know anything about the Great Depression World War one or to the Korean War the Vietnam War it goes on they got maybe a touch of it at 9/11 you see there's a generation in our churches today it's a generation in our churches today young children that need the model of good parents that are showing them that what did we do they're encoded 19 well we gathered around the computer on Sundays and Wednesdays we begin to worship God we begin to worship God yesterday the pastoral team came to the church we had prayer my grandchildren being a part of that pastoral team prayed through the building because Kovac 19 will come to pass now I want them when we begin to think and relive the days of kovin 19 I want to be etched on their mind we believed we believed in God we trusted in God I don't know who you might be there in front of your computer but let's have a time right now just receiving the word of the Lord Father I pray today for the FAC Miravalle and Sevierville church family I pray today for all of those that are watching and worshiping with us right now God let faith replace fear Lord and a sweet savour replace stress Oh God let your spirit flow through the homes today let your spirit move through the homes today God if there's someone under the sound of my voice they're not ready to meet you they're not ready God I prayed at you and they would follow their knees right there they would begin to call out to you we would begin to worship you and we would begin to praise You Lord begin to touch right now God begin to move up on the church today we'll give you the praise and glory and honor jesus name amen amen they're gonna continue to sing for a few moments one of my favorite songs oh how I need the Oh God but until tonight at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time may God bless you may God keep you and may God always cause his face to shine upon you god bless
