Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The Word was God

  • The text is John 1:1: in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Nothing catches God off guard — in the beginning God already held the Word with him: the thought, the plan, the idea of redemption.
  • The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us because God is invisible: no man has seen God at any time, but the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him — that is why Jesus is worshiped: Jesus is God.

Scriptures: John 1:1; John 1:14; John 1:18

Invisible God, manifest in the flesh

  • No man had seen God because God is the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man hath seen nor can see.
  • Without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory — and manifest means to make visible.
  • He was manifested to take away our sins, and in him is no sin: God became flesh so that a spotless body could take away our sins — and he was not just a prophet, not just a miracle worker, not just a good teacher: God dwelt in Christ Jesus.

Scriptures: 1 Timothy 1:17; 1 Timothy 6:16; 1 Timothy 3:16; 1 John 3:5

The image of the invisible God

  • Christ is the image of God: the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them — and he is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature.
  • Thomas witnessed the crucifixion and the empty tomb, yet would not believe on a report alone — he needed to see the print of the nails; when Jesus stood before him eight days later and showed him his hands and his side, Thomas had one statement to make: 'My Lord and my God.'

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 4:4; Colossians 1:15; John 20:28

The power in his name

  • The power is not in an ordinary name but in the God behind the name he wore — that is why Scripture is filled with baptisms administered in the name of Jesus: the power in water baptism has nothing to do with the water itself and everything to do with the name that is connected to that God.
  • God hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name: at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess — every angelic being in heaven, and every demon under the earth behind the foul and destructive forces of this world, must reverence that name and loose its hold.
  • He carries the only name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved — when a problem looks too big, the name to shout is Jesus.

Scriptures: Philippians 2:9-11

Christ why I worship Jesus Christ you may be seated John said say that in the beginning was the word and that the word was with God and that the Word was God nothing catches God off guard God has been and will be prepared for any situation that comes man's way for in the beginning was the word the word here w r d is the thought the plan the idea the word was the expression of God in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God God had the word of redemption with him in the beginning in the beginning the word and the plan and the idea was with God and the Word was God how is the word God the Bible says in John 1:14 and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us we beheld his glory the glory as of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth why would the word need to be made flesh the word needed to be made flesh because it was God's plan and it was God why would the word need to be made flesh is because John 1:18 says no man has seen God at any time the only begotten son which is in the bosom of the father he hath declared him why I worship Jesus Jesus Christ is because Jesus is God he is God no man has seen God at any time but the only begotten son which is in the bosom of the father he ha declared him we know in 1 Timothy 1:17 the answer to John 1:18 no man is seen God at any time and here's the answer in 1 Timothy 11:17 now unto the king Eternal Immortal invisible the only wise God be honor and Glory forever and ever amen no man had seen God because God is invisible 1 Timothy 6:16 who only hath immortality dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto whom no man has seen nor can see to whom be honor and power and everlasting amen 1 Timothy 3:16 tells us why Jesus Christ why the plan why it was made flesh why it was God With God why it was in the beginning 1 Timothy 3:16 and without controversy there is no controversy about God without controversy great is the mystery of godliness or godlikeness God was manifest In the Flesh justified in the spirit seen of angels preached un the Gentiles believed on in the world received up into Glory the word manifest means to make visible in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the Word was God and the Word was made flesh why because God is invisible and no man can see God or has seen God but all of a sudden God Is manifested In the Flesh you ask me why I worship Jesus Christ the answer is simple Jesus is God is he is God why did he God become flesh why would God become flesh for first John three and five says and ye know that he was manifested to take our a take away our sins and in him is no sin why was God manifest In the Flesh so that a body spotless and clean could take away our sins for us but never mistake it the God dwelt in Christ Jesus second cor Corinthians 4 and4 says whom in whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not lest the light of the Glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God should shine unto them I preach this message today on television and I preach it in this Sanctuary that we will never lose sight of why we worship Jesus Christ he was not just a prophet he was not just a miracle worker he was not just a good good teacher he was not just somebody that gave his life I worship Jesus today because Jesus is God you ask me why At The Mention Of His Name we stand to our feet he is God you ask me why we write songs preach sermons breathe his name because he alone is God and beside him there is none other he is God I want every college student to understand something Jesus Is God they'll tell you he was a philosopher they'll tell you he was just another miracle worker but let every college campus hear the sound Jesus Is God Jesus Is God Colossians 1:15 tells me about my Jesus who is the image of the invisible God the firstborn of every creature Thomas witnessed the crucifixion Thomas witnessed his death he witnessed Nails Thorns Spears and the last gasping voice it is finished he witnessed grave clothes in tune he witnessed it all but a few days later somebody brought the point somebody brought the report he's a li he's alive he's alive please do not sit high on your judgment seat for I believe I would have been right there with Thomas and when Thomas got the report he's alive he said unless I could put my hand in the hole of the side and thrust my hand into the prince of his hands I will not believe no I need more than just a report from you I need to see proof of his resurrection eight days later Jesus shows up in the room where Thomas is at Thomas had one comment to make in John 2028 Jesus shows up and says Thomas my hands and my side handle me and see Thomas had one statement to make he said my Lord and my God Thomas said he was God Scripture says he is God who are we 2,000 years separated from the resurrection to to question the deity of Christ Thomas was there and Thomas said you're my Lord and you're my God this this explains this explains the power in his name because it is just not in the name Jesus it's the god behind the name he wore the name of Jesus don't you tell me that's an ordinary name that's why scripture is filled with baptisms administered in the name of Jesus that's the power in baptism that's the power in water baptism too many people today think that it's the river water it's Jordan water in Israel it has nothing to do with the H2O itself but it has everything to do with that name that's connected to that God if he was not God that name would have no power but it's the god behind the name that gives the name its power he is not Mohammad he is not baale he is not a god with a false name he has a name and his name is Jesus and when you believe when you say Jesus you're calling out on the power of the one who created the world and everything in it he hung every Star out to shine he created the sun he created the moon when you call on the night I got to get a witness in the house today when you call on that name hey and you think you got a problem too big today you need to shout Jesus this morning you think you got a problem too big you need to shout Jesus this morning I'll in I'll in here this morning but can I tell you something that your competitor does not want you to ever understand can I tell you something today that your adversary hopes you never come to the full revelation of is what happens in his kingdom when that name is spoken for the Bible says in Philippians that God hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above all others that at the name of Jesus every knee is going to Bow and every tongue is going to confess at the name of Jesus he set up things in heaven or things under the heaven when he said at the name of Jesus everything in heaven is going to Bow every Angelic being that is it the bidding call of God when the name of Jesus is said every angel that can stop the fiery furnace for Daniel Shadrach mesach and abedo every angel that can stop the lions from devouring Daniel Every angel that can go into a Maximum Security Prison and get the Apostle Peter out every angel that can r Stones away at the name of Jesus all those angels have to stop and they have to give reverence to the name of Jesus but I I'm going to I'm going to make my way back to my chair in just a moment but before I do I got to tell you that he said of things in heaven and things under the heaven now things under the heaven is that onethird of that demonic world that Demon World what's behind pornography demons what's behind drugs demons what's behind alcoholism demons what's behind prescription drug addiction demons what's behind people walking away from marriages demons what's behind every foul evil destructive force in this world today demons but at the name of Jesus everything in heaven every demon has got to say wait a minute they've been going to classes they've been trying to be educated out of pornography they've been trying to be restrained out of alcoholism but they just said the name of Jesus we've got to loose our hold because of the name staying with me this morning Jesus why I worship Jesus he is God he carries the only name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved Jesus there's just something about that name
