Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The God who welcomes you back
- We come to God as broken vessels and empty cups — still carrying the identities he placed in our lives, priests and ambassadors and children of God — yet feeling the missing pieces, the emptiness that only his love can fill.
- If a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps the statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die; none of the transgressions he has committed shall be remembered against him.
- There is never a moment when God meets the one who turns back with 'I told you so' or puts him in timeout; every time, his arms have been open and he has never shamed or disqualified the returning one.
- If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us; if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- The confession the church most needs to make: 'God, my desires can be more important to me than knowing and trusting you.'
Scriptures: Ezekiel 18:21; 1 John 1:8-9
Hosea and Gomer: a love that buys back
- The book of Hosea carries two love stories in parallel; God told Hosea to take a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry, so that Hosea's own life would feel what God feels — married to a people who would utterly reject him.
- Gomer played the harlot and went after her lovers, who she said gave her bread and water, wool and linen, oil and drink — while all along it was Hosea who saw that she had provision.
- She did not know that it was he who gave her grain, new wine, and oil; the lovers only used her, and in the end she was discarded, enslaved, and stripped of all dignity in the slave market.
- Then God said, 'Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery'; Hosea bought her back for fifteen shekels of silver and one and a half homers of barley, covered her nakedness, and reaffirmed the covenant: I belong to you, and you belong to me.
Scriptures: Hosea 1:2; Hosea 2:5; Hosea 2:8; Hosea 3:1-2
'How can I give you up?'
- In chapter 11 God opens his own heart in the midst of unrequited love: my people are determined to desert me; they call me the Most High but do not truly honor me.
- 'How can I give you up? How can I let you go? How can I destroy you like Admah or demolish you like Zeboiim? My heart is torn within me, and my compassions overflow' — the word pictures an overthrow turned inward: he cannot walk away.
- He will not unleash his fierce anger or completely destroy, because he is God and not a mere mortal, the Holy One living among us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful — he cannot deny himself.
- God sees his bride from the vantage point of her consummation: whom he predestined, these he also called; whom he called, these he also justified; whom he justified, these he also glorified.
- Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy — the celebration of that day is what kept him on the cross.
Scriptures: Hosea 11:7-9; Hosea 11:8; 2 Timothy 2:13; Romans 8:30; Jude 24
A God who fills cracked vessels
- Let your conduct be without covetousness and be content, for he himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you'; so we may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear what man can do to me.'
- At the potter's house the clay became marred in the potter's hand — you can be in the hands of God and still get scarred — but he did not give up on the clay; he began to work it again into a new vessel.
- Dishonest potters once filled cracks with wax and sanded them smooth; buyers held vessels to the light to check. God means the light to shine through the cracks of our lives, not for the cracks to be hidden.
- We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us: hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.
- He is a God who fills: his desire is to fill you with his Spirit until it leaks out through the broken places to the broken people around you — so stop running, turn around, and be refilled.

there are times in our lives when I know that we feel broken and shattered and that pieces of our life are missing when we have dreams that have not been fulfilled when what we want seems like a distant memory when our cup of I want is broken we are still left with a number of identities that God has placed in our life if we read his word word and what I mean by that is we can go through scriptures and see where he has called you and I to be priests and ambassadors children of God Christians there are things that he has called for you and I to fulfill in our life yet we still deal with this Brokenness in our life this missing peace that is there these these circumstances that have left you and I marred so to speak or things that are
lacking we have a spiritual need for forgiveness we feel empty we feel humble we're needy in our life we are broken vessels empty cups but he is faithful to forgive and to cover our shame and to protect us from the oppressor and that you and I can be accepted into his family our emptiness says I need Jesus I need him it's an emptiness that needs God's love and only God's love you and I know I know that you and I have all s sought different ways to fill that void that is there tried our best to put things in place where only God belongs but it's a place that is only designed for him and no matter what you try to cover it with it'll never satisfy it'll never complete you you'll always be missing without it so we confess and when
we confess to the Lord that our desires have become needs and then we begin to listen to him then in our desperation our ears seem to be open and we understand that God reveals himself as the welcoming one or as the old Hebrew word lets us know that he is the Lord who sanctifies and I'm so thankful for that there's never a moment when we encounter God where he says I told you so there's never a moment where he puts you in timeout or a spiritual isolation instead God rejoices that we have turned to him in a wholehearted way every time that I've turned my back on him every time that I willingly walked away every time I made bad decisions every time I took a path that led me down the wrong road whenever I finally stopped and turned around I've always been welcomed
by him his arms have always been open he was always willing to embrace me he never shamed me he never turned me away he never told me I was disqualified instead he met me every time in my Brokenness what a God God we serve my bad decisions never let me become disqualified in his eyes we have these promises that God gives us like Ezekiel 18- 21 but if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed keeps my statutes and does not lawful and right does what is lawful and right he shall surely live he shall not die none of these transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him oh my goodness there should be something inside of us that celebrates what I just read that none of the transgressions are going to be held against us none of my
wrongs I may remember them and I may still bear their scars but he does not remember them he chooses to not remember he chooses to take those things and scatter them as far as the East is from the West he buries them in Redemptive blood what a God we serve if you stop for a moment did you ever think how could God forgive me of that whatever that is we all have a that that God would forgive me of that do you think that God's forgiveness is a begrudging forgiveness do you think that God's promises are only for people who haven't done what you have done that you're the only one that your story is unique that you are the one who has done something is beyond God's mercy that you uniquely qualified you the only one that has ever breathed has managed to
create a scenario that God's love can't cover no impossible you just like me if you'll stop long enough to turn around you will find his love will overrun you it will overrun you his arms are open his Embrace is still there you are still his child regardless of what label the world has placed on you regardless of your bad decisions regardless of what you think has disqualified you none of that is true what is true is there's a God who is relentlessly pursuing after you and if you would stop long enough you would hear him say come back to me my child come back to me I love you belong to me what a God we serve we serve a God who feels if you allow me for just a few moments this morning I want to preach to you about a God who
feels 1 John 1:8 says if we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us if we confess our sins he is faithful faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness see what you and I need to do collectively as a body what what what many of us need to do is to confess this truth please listen close to me what I'm saying we need to confess this truth God my desires can be more important to me than knowing and trusting you we need to confess this I'll say it again God my desires can be more important to me than knowing and trusting you there is more God knows us he knows our shortcomings and our failures he knows our shame and our fear and our rejection in this life but
these things no longer have to rule us we belong to him nonetheless it is in the suffering that God overwhelms us with even more blessings because it's in the suffering I realize this that he covers my shame and my humiliation he accepts the rejected he protects the threatened in other words God comes alongside us but not just beside us but he fills us that has been his Desir is to fill us with his Spirit he pours out his love into our hearts and his Spirit comes into us and he lives and resides with us and since we were created by the Divine lover of our soul we will never be okay unless we know that love deeply we need to know the love that only Jesus brings but I ask us today do you really understand it do you understand God's love I'm not going
to ask you can you comprehend it because you can't and neither can I his love doesn't fit inside our mind it's too big for me to comprehend it goes beyond my ability to rationalize why he would and what I'm going to talk about today is what I feel like to begin with is the second greatest love story ever told it's second only to the greatest love story but it's a love story that reflects the greatest that is there you and I we have this in our humanness we are fragile against the dangers of life and exposed to the to the torrent that comes into our circumstances it could be illness or family crisis or death of loved ones or loss of income or wayward children or divorce or abuse or addiction or depression or so many other things whirling this catastrophic challenges that crack and
damage our spirit rendering us ineffective and we're stuck there trying to hold it all together but I want you to know that often times I think we misunderstand the cracks because we feel like we have to be this perfect vessel that when he fills us with his spirit that we simply hold and contain what is there not knowing that the almighty uses the cracks of our life so that he can flow through the them to those that are around us see we live in a broken world where everyone we ever come in contact with is broken too they're not broken like us they may be broken in similar fashion there may be pieces of their life story that we have in common with them but each of us are unique just like our fingerprints and our voice prints and our and our eyes are
all unique to who we are so is our life story so is our circumstances so are the things that you and I faced and all those have become to Define who we are and what God desires to do is to not necessarily change all of the aspects of who we are but to bring us in alignment with his purpose and his plan for our life and in doing so as he fills us with his spirit that light that shines out of us shines through the cracks and the crevices of our missteps and bad decisions but it shines in such a way so that those around us can see that you're flawed just like me that you have been redeemed just like me that my vessel may be seemingly worthless to some but to him I'm a masterpiece to him I am beautiful the
world says I'm ugly the world says discard me the world says throw me away the world says I'm useless the world says I can't be dependent upon but he says you're beautiful he says I'll fill you with my spirit because I'm a God who fills that's what I do and you may think you have been disqualified but I can use you if you will follow me if you allow me to guide and direct and to order your steps I'll take the very things that you think have disqualified you and I will use them for my glory and for my kingdom and for my purpose and what I can do through you is I can reach other people people who have a similar walk and path that you have walked and you have the ability to show them that I'm a God who keeps my word
that I will fill you and they can see my love and they can see my light and you become a powerful weapon against the enemy because he's the God who feels now I've said all that to Simply set up my sermon so I'll get into my notes now and talk about one of the greatest Revelations of God's love is found in the Old Testament book of Hosea it's the book that actually has two love stories that run parallel it's this ultimate story about God and his love for his people and it involves an Earthly story about a couple named Hosea and Goomer and to let the record stand goomer's the girl in this situation I know for those of us who may be a little older in the crowd we think about Gomer pow Shazam you got to really work hard to get that
image away in the story okay so you have to put that to bed right now or it just really messes everything I'm trying to do up hosea's the boy and goomer's the girl Hosea and go Gomer point us to God comfort in his pursuing love for the shamed the threatened and the rejected this story of Hosea it leaves me and I'm sure if you were honest it'll leave you with so many questions one is why did God tell Hosea to marry Gomer because everything we get from the account that we read she was a prostitute she was a harlot she was questionable character and she wasn't planning by anything that we read to stop what she was doing even after she married Hosea none of us could imagine marrying someone like Goomer that doesn't make logical sense there was nothing attractive about her from
the beginning to end yet marrying her was the way that Hosea got a glimpse into the heart of God because God was mared married to someone like Goomer he's married to you and I we are the bride of Christ we are so he was saying look I want you to do this because I want you to see so that you can better explain oh man of God what it is I feel like and what I experience and what I go through God was saying to Jose in effect you and I are both going to give our hearts completely to someone who will utterly reject us we will give our hearts our energy our time and our money in pursuit of them but yet by doing this you will understand my faithful love to Israel you see I myself am the husband your life will
be about my love your pain will point to my own and your faithfulness will be a replica of mine this was hosea's ordination into Ministry I was talking with brother Elkins about this as I was studying out this week to put this together I begin to think about Isaiah the prophet Isaiah got to go into the throne room in the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord high and lifted up yeah he gets to go there and he declares before him oh I'm unworthy I'm a man of unclean lips that that that was his that was his calling into Ministry hoseah I got to take a little different route with you I want you go marry Gomer I've been like well hang on a minute he like my buddy Isaiah he gets to go up into the Heavenly he gets to
see you high and lifted up and I got to marry who God was doing a work Hosea 1 verse 2 when the Lord began to speak to Hosea the Lord said to Hosea go and take yourself a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry for the land has committed great harlotry by Deep departing from the Lord so he went and took Gomer the daughter of deum and she conceived and bore him a son the pain of rejection and betrayal started quickly for Hosea by at least the time of their second child was born Gomer was a committed Harlot from all accounts that we read through scripture goomer's second child was named larama meaning no mercy chances are this da was not even Hosea and by the time the third child come about there was little doubt at all that it belonged to him because they
named the child Lo Ami which means not my people are not mine by this time Gomer was coming and going as she pleased as we read about this sham of a marriage this so-called commitment that was going on our minds jump from Hosea in his painful plight to God's holy patience and unceasing faithfulness to you and I we should begin to think how could God have ever asked me to be his bride me why would he choose me what would what would what have I done in my life think with me for just a minute what have I ever done in my life that he would want me I'm broken I'm unfaithful I'm flawed I'm not complete I'm not perfect there's things in me that are just not right why would he desire me when I look around I see so many others
that are better positioned surely more attractive surely more desirable why would he choose me undoubtedly hosea's mind was jumping to his own situation to this deeper understanding that God was taking him through so that he could comprehend this great love but hosea's problems were not over because after disgracing both himself and herself Gomer threw off all appearances of marriage and as you begin to read through the first and second chapter she just begin to go after all these the word of God says lovers that she was passionate her lustful ways were causing her to do all these things in chapter 2 verse number 5 for their mother has played the Harlot she who conceived them has behaved shamefully for she said I will go after my lovers who give me my bread and my water my wool and my
linen my oil and my drink somehow she thought that she could have something better she was delusioned by her passions and she's following after everything that her flesh wants to do and it's leading her down this road that is broken but what she doesn't understand is that when Goomer left it was Hosea who made sure that she had Provisions even through the Betrayal he would not leave her alone she wasn't by herself he's following after he's pursuing after he's constantly saying turn around and come back to me I'm committed to you I gave you my Covenant I gave you my relationship I gave you my word that I was going to be yours why are you rejecting me why are you turning your back on me why are you following after all these passions that are not right in your life can't you see it's
me that loves you no one else really loves you so Hosea provided for Gomer even though she attributed the provisions to all her lovers you see in verse number eight of chapter 2 for she did not know that I gave her grain new wine and oil it wasn't them it was me they didn't care about you they were simply using you they were abusing you they were taking advantage of you and yet somehow you think it's them that's doing all the good things for you that's not true you're following after these passions that are not right you're not staying true to the commitment that you should have with me and yet you follow after them but they don't feed you they don't clothe you they don't PR provide provis it's me it's my love who's relentlessly pursuing after you do you see the connection between
God and us how many times you and I have walked away from him how many times you and I have followed after our own desires and we did an hour away or in the moment we gave in to what it is we thought was best and the whole time he's he's pursuing you and I and he's making sure that we have provision that we are covered the fact that you're in this room has proof positive that we have a God who loves you the story is unfolding in the scripture that is there even with Hosea support Gomer was eventually discarded by her lovers we can only guess to the extent of the abuse that she went through the rape and the forced prostitution and the beating she was treated like Refuge garbage to be thrown away and cast out she found herself and the only
thing that was left she became enslaved Gomer was now done her adulteries had led her almost to the Grave she was an outcast she was beyond hope her shame fear and rejection could not have been more intense she stood in the slave market naked completely to be inspected by potential buyers leaving no wonder as to what was going to be the next person who would come along and abuse her as she's there stripped of all decency and dignity no value no worth simply left with the only thing she had left which was her body which was broken for those to come by and see if there might be any interest whatsoever and what she had left cast out worthless broken broken we see here in chapter 3 verse number one then the Lord said to me go again love a woman who is loved by
a lover and is committing adultery just like the love of the Lord for the children of Israel who look to other gods and love the raising cakes of the pagans verse number two so I bought her for myself for 15 shekels of silver and one and one half homers of barley the bidding didn't go very high evidently nobody was impressed with the merchandise at hand Gomer was sold to Hosea for the price of a common slave he buys back his wife do you comprehend what I'm saying here she already was supposed to belong to him anyway yet he pursues her to the very bottom and finds that she's been completely rejected by all enslaved she has a debt against her and he goes in and purchases her anyway let us settle in your mind what I'm saying this morning he never stopped after paying the
fee Hosea went over to Gomer and did something that must have left the town's people whispering to each other he covered her nakedness and her shame I don't even know when you read through this and there's so much to unpack and here and you can follow down some rabbit holes but some theologians even wonder did she recognize him in the moment I don't know I don't know maybe she didn't even recognize who it was who was actually trying to cover her shame following God's command Hosea immediately treated her as his wife he reaffirms the Covenant of marriage I belong to you and you belong to me and in my mind short of the Gospel of Jesus Christ this is the greatest love story that's ever told have you ever witnessed this kind of love it seems that I've seen glimpses of it throughout church
but nothing truly parallels the story of Hosea and the Heavenly story behind it because this is a holy love Gomer was committed to her own desires she looked everywhere to fulfill those desires that she had Hosea was committed to being the reflection of a Divine love he knew it was impossible to satisfy his wife's lust and her desires but he kept wooing her and employing her to turn away from her own desires and to and to find satisfaction in their marital Covenant that they had together yet she continued to follow her passion her passions finally lead her to Rock Bottom yet who's there at Rock Bottom when she's enslaved and out of options it was Hosea who redeemed her back what was that La for Hosea what what what what do we really know it had to be painful it had to be a life
of Shame and grief but Hosea does not offer his personal Reflections what he reports is that he submitted to the Lord his God and he was obedient but that's hosea's story now let me turn and transition in this message what has this been like for our God how has this been for him how does he feel about you and I what is his story like in contrast to Hosea God has given us a profound insight into his heart it can be found in the same book in chapter 11 but before considering the heart of God for his people consider how unprecedented it is for anyone to publicly share their deepest feelings in the midst of unrequited love think about it who tells their secrets especially when they are being rejected so openly this is this is again this is heavy stuff most of
us when we're reading through the Bible we get to Hosea we read the story but we pass on through we don't we don't take time as I said on Wednesday night to sit down in the story to put oursel in this moment and here we're going to read I'm going to read to you the personal letters that God has written about his love for you and I when you and I have at times been so Unfaithful when you and I have turned our back and we have openly rejected him and caused him shame and heartache and pain when you and I have been less in because we followed after our own passions our own desires our own our own justification for why we did what we did even even though it went contrary to what he asked us to do you're going to
read here you're going to read the heart of a Divine lover for his people God opens himself to us and he says in chapter 11 verse number 7 for my people are determined to Desert me they call me the most high but they do not truly honor me oh how can I give up how can I Give You Up how can I let you go how can I destroy you like Adam or demolish you like zeum my heart is torn within me and my compassions overflow no I will not unleash my Fierce anger I will not completely destroy Israel for I am a God and not a mere mortal I am the Holy One living among you and I will not come to destroy you he opens up this love letter pouring out his pain pain and his sorrow for you and I to read
by saying how can I give you up his immediate answer is I cannot it is impossible you are mine you belong to me God says that he will not treat his rebellious people in the way he treated those sister cities of Sodom and gomorra you go back to Deuteronomy 29 you can read about that he doesn't want to destroy he doesn't want to walk away why because he loves us he loves us we are his precious we are his beloved now notice the word change and the word that God uses to describe his own heart that is there when he says in verse number eight my heart is torn within me another translation says my heart is changed within me the word is being defined there the Hebrew word is rarely used in the Bible as a description of someone's emotional experience the overwhelming
the majority of the time that word is to use to describe the overthrow and destruction of her City but yet we see in this moment that he's trying to say that God is wrestling with inside himself with his heart's desire for you and I to be in relationship with him it's turned over I can't it's impossible for me to walk away I love you so much I can't walk away think about that kind of love processed for just a minute with that same amount of conviction that he has and he says in side you you've abandoned me you've walked away you've shamed me you have you've taken advantage of me it has been me who has pursued you it's been me that you turned your back on it's been me that has taken care of you it's been me that has allowed you
to have safety it has been me that has tried to redeem you God is saying that his insides are in turmoil on behalf of his people the English Standard Version says my heart recoils within me this is not so much God talking about the pain of betrayal as it is God revealing his intense compassion for his people it reveals the depth of his desire to bring you and I back to him this can this can seem to be too good to be true you know sometimes I've thought in my own life that God maybe's just barely let me slip in the back door of his kingdom that God is somehow obligated you know that there are a lot of good people that they get in and maybe I'm just going to slip in the door just just barely I feel like maybe God didn't have
a choice yet God had a choice in everything he does and he chooses to love us with a passionate and a faithful love the reason that you and I doubt listen to me the reason that we struggle with this is because we think that God is like us if Gomer were my wife my instinct would never have been to pursue her to the depths that they went at some point I would have said you know what if you don't want me then fine somebody will love me that's what that's what we do we think about this with human understanding and human logic when we think about love we say that we know the love of God but we don't really know the love of God because it's beyond our comprehension my goal today is not for you to comprehend it my goal today
is for you to understand and embrace it you and I would have walked away be honest if we were in that relationship with Jose and Gomer we would reached a point we would have walked away because we would not have accepted the fact that we had been rejected so many times yet God uses that rejection story to say that's the love I have for you how how how can I walk away I can't I can't I can't do it you belong to me I can't your mind your mind I enter into a covenant with you first Timothy or second Timothy 2:13 says if we are faithless he remains faithful he cannot deny himself moreover God's faithfulness is so intense that God describes it as a tearing him in the insides from this you can understand how misguided it is to judge God's
actions from the perspective of what you and I would do in any situation we don't understand the temporal and sinful is never the standard for the holy it's never the temporary the temporary and the simple it can't be the standard for the holy if we judge by our own experience we assume that God will eventually get fed up with us and leave us naked in the slave market but he says I am God I am not a man I'm the Holy One among you I don't come with wrath I only come with love I'm pursuing you I want you back I have I know you think you're broken Beyond repair but I will gladly pay the price the Redemptive price to bring you back there is still something of value in you belong to me you are my beloved what restrained God's Wrath
especially considering that God is Holy and just the reason that he did not come with wrath is because his holy Justice anticipated a time when he would become our sacrificial lamb he would take the shame he would take the rejection that was rightfully ours that he would take our place that when the fullness of time come God came robed in flesh he walked Among Us he faced the same circumstances you and our face he felt the same passions and desires the same hurts and the same pains the same rejection the same same shame why did he do it why would why would God subject himself to those kind of circumstances it doesn't make sense that's right God's love never makes sense not the way you and I you love but he was pursuing us the entirety of the scriptures from Genesis 1 to the end
of Revelations is a love story of a God who is pursuing his most blessed and coveted thing a relationship with you and I Calvary the cross the death of Jesus Christ the burial and the resurrection it's a love story unfolding to where he would willingly choose open shame and rebuke so that it would redeem you and I back into a relationship with him what kind of love is that it doesn't make sense but he's a God who feels God looks at his creation from this perspective of Romans 8:30 moreover whom he predestined and the predestined there is sunship okay it's not certain number going to make it certain number not going to make it sunship was be predestined based off of our obedience these he also called whom he called these he also Justified whom he justified these he also glorified stay with me okay
don't get lost in this I know I'm not standing on my head and yelling right now but don't get lost in this God's look when he looks at his creation he does so from the per the perspective of the consummation of you and I being glorified from this vantage point he sees what his Gomer will be she will be a radiant bride honored and glorified she will be presented according to Jude 24 now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding Joy if God is passionate about pursuing his Wayward wife you can be certain that there will be a great celebration of joy and laughter when his wife is glorified and in his presence forever you and I don't talk enough about that great day when we get over there
the marriage supper of the Lamb we don't understand fully because we can't comprehend his love what a great day that's going to be that's what kept him there that's what kept him on the cross is it wasn't where we were at but it was where we could be it wasn't where what would had been done to us it's what was going to happen on the other side of Glory that there was going to come a day that you and I the redeemed those been purchased by his Precious Blood we're going going to stand there as a beautiful radiant bride before him it was those things that kept him on that
cross he paid such a price the scene will be similar to some of the best marriage ceremonies that you and I have ever witnessed in my years of ministry I've been involved in many many weddings there's always a moment it happens in every wedding Taylor and Angela just got married to happen at y'all's wedding just a few days ago when the bride turns the corner and we're all there there's always this moment bishop and I we used to talk about this there's always this moment there when all eyes are focused on the bride and I always have this vantage point because the majority of the time at a wedding I'm standing right beside the groom and everybody's watching the bride but I'm watching the groom because there's always this moment when she turns the corner you can see he's just like yes that's my girl
and I always have this moment that comes back to me that's how God looks at you and I his bride he's like yes there's my bride but here's the deal don't misunderstand okay you can't get lost in this because this ceremony is different the one we're talking about because there's a different focal point in traditional Western weddings the bride is the honored one and everyone at the wedding is talking about how beautiful she is and all eyes are constantly on her but at the Heavenly Eternal ceremony our gaze will be fixed on another the bride is indeed exalted and honored and glorified but her beauty will exalt God even more and it is he who pursued he who wooed he who redeemed he who brought he who transformed any beauty of the Bride is a reflection of the great beauty of the
bridegroom that is there are you feeling filled yet this is what God gives to those who have come to know him through faith because we understand number one that our shame is covered no longer do we have to hide from The Gaze of God or other people to them Jesus says come and we come number two the rejected are accepted they received his passionate acceptance accompanied by his rejoicing and the fact that God sings over us did you know that he think about that we sing worship songs but God sings songs over you and I why because he's passionate about us he loves us with an unending love God sings over us and number three the threaten are comforted and they are comforted because they know that their husband is a sovereign king of kings and Lord of lords the unconquered one and will there
be suffering in this life yes but as suffering pales in comparison to what he has in store for us the joy of our Salvation is the fact not down here but up there is where I'm going to a glorified body and a glorified lamb where I'm going to stand in his presence forever and forever and to understand that he loves me that passionately Our God no longer calls us servants he calls us his friends his children and his bride and through his Spirit he gives us the greatest gift he could ever have he gives you and I himself he says I belong to you think about that God says I belong to you I'm not worthy of that I've never done anything in my life worthy of that I never could do anything in my life worthy of his love I fall so
short and all of my failures and all of my shortcomings I don't deserve him I've never deserved him I've never earned him I've never earned that love and neither of you but I'm so thankful it's not based upon what I can do but it's based on who he is that he is worthy he is worthy and that the glorified one says I want to glorify you in between now and then I'll fill you with my spirit I he is a God who feels he tells us I will never leave you I'll never forsake you this great gift Hebrews 13 says let your conduct be without covetousness be content with such things as you have for he himself has said I will never leave you nor forsake you so we may boldly say the Lord is my helper I will not fear what can man do
to me I may go through this life beat down broken I may have scars I may have cracks in me but he has seen value in me he has paid a high price for me he has redeemed me from all of those things and I belong to him as I bring this to a close today the path of God's love is a path that leads us overflowing our cup cannot contain what he bestows on us Jeremiah 18 the famous passage of the Prophet being called down to The Potter's House to watch him do a work on the wheel as most of us know if you've read that chapter if you've been around church for any length of time as the prophets watching through the window as The Potter's working with the clay the word says the clay became marred in The Potter's hand so I
want you to know that you can even be in the hands of God and still get scarred life happens to us we're here okay okay we're living in a sinful world but I love the fact that he didn't give up on the clay it says he began to work it again into a new vessel just because you have a scar doesn't mean he can't use you right you know story goes in the East during Biblical times as they were making pottery that Pottery sometimes would become broken and cracked open and that some of those who were less than honest would take wax and they would melt the wax and fill in the cracks and then sand it down because it looked like the vessel was complete the wax would take on the color of the clay it looked like everything was okay but those who
shopped would take the pots and the cups and the utensils they would hold them up to the light and they would turn them so that they could see if there was any cracks because the light would shine through they would know whether or not it was whole and complete we view that wrong the world's watching you and I and when the light shines it should shine through the cracks and the crevices of our life don't be ashamed of where God has brought you from don't glorify it but don't be ashamed you're a vessel in the Potter's hand and there is much more at Play then you can imagine that God wants to do through your story Through Your Vessel you have an opportunity to reach those around you if you can let his light shine through the cracks and the crevices because he's the God
who feels he feels he feels so it'll leak out he feels so it'll squish out between the cracks and the crevices through the broken places he continues to feel and he keeps feeling and he keeps feeling and that's why you got to be tuned in every day you got to as the old song you got to get under the spout where the glory comes out you got to got to have your vessel filled up why because it's going to leak out of those cracks but the cracks don't disqualify
you when I think about the Brokenness that is there I begin to think about the path of God's love and the path that leads you and I into living this overflowing life you know talks about and Jesus was walking about that we would have rivers of living water flowing out of us it can't flow out of a vessel that's not broken our cup cannot contain what God bestows on us in fact I feel like it makes what Paul was saying to the church at Corinth even more impressive when I think about 2 Corinthians 4:7 but we have this treasure in Earth and vessels that the Excellence of the power may be of God and not of us we are hard pressed on every side yet not crushed we are perplexed but not in despair persecuted but not forsaken struck down but not destroyed always
carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus Christ that the life of Jesus Also may be manifested in our bodies as the end today look God's desire is to fill you for a purpose and for a reason we may be hard pressed but the spirit he fills us with is it's not crushed going through life you're going to have some pressing but his spirit is not crushed we may be perplexed but his holy ghost is not in despair the Earthly right we have this treasure in Earth and vessels the Earth and vessel that's twofold he's tell Paul's talking about two things here he's talking about the earn and then what it's filled with and the Earth what's filled with so the earn may be pressed but the treasure inside is not C the Earth and may be perplexed but
the treasure inside is not in despair the Earth and may be persecuted but the treasure inside has never forsaken me the Earth may be knocked down but the treasure inside can never be destroyed he's the God who feels so I ask today who in this room who in this room needs to stop running and turn around and let his Spirit overwhelm you who needs that today CU he's the God who feels his desire is to fill you with his Spirit today in this place who in this place in your mind you have disqualified yourself because your vessel's too broken who are you who are you how arrogant of you to determine that God's love can't save you who are you you're not qualified for that your sin is not the biggest sin ever your transgression is not a transgression that goes beyond the blood how
dare you make that statement cuz I'm here to tell you that is a false as a lie from the pit of Hell if you will stop and turn around his love will overwhelm you if you will stop and turn around you will find Arms Wide Open you'll find a God who says you're my bride you're my beloved I still have plans and purpose and intent for your life who among us today needs to be refilled so that it can leak out again will you stand with me today I don't know who I'm reaching for but I'm reaching for somebody somebody needs to know that we serve a God who feels and he's still in that business today he is still pursuing you will you bow your head and close your eyes on me holy God I've delivered my heart today what I feel like you
laid on me to your church God I'm so thankful that you pursue us with such passion that your love goes beyond my ability to comprehend to understand I pray today Lord that that drawing Spirit would bring us to a place where we would evaluate where we are to make sure God that we are not disqualifying ourselves based off of what we feel is right right but to know and understand it is you who desires to glorify us that we are your bride and we belong to you God I pray today in your Holy Name that there will be a restoration of ministry in this room restore today back give purpose back give Ministry back today God for those who who don't know you as Lord and Savior I pray today your spirit would bring them down to a place where you can fill them with
the wonderful gift of your spirit in Jesus name it's prayer time this altar is open I invite you to come I invite you to come I invite you to take some time and evaluate where you are to allow his love to Lavish and pour out on you I invite you to come to evaluate your V vessel to make sure that you're ready to not miss an opportunity to be all that God has for you to be
