Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

FireKeepers

  • He opens with his own story: landed home in Dallas, hunted his apartment parking lot for his car, and realized he had left it at the airport — keys in his pocket while he waited for someone else to take him: how often we wait for somebody else to take us somewhere spiritually we already have the keys to go ourselves.
  • His text is 2 Timothy 1:6-7, read entire: fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of hands — for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of self-control. His subject: 'FireKeepers.'

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 1:6-7

Catch on Fire — and Stay on Fire

  • Moses at the burning bush: the bush burned and was not consumed. God's will is not a fiery moment or a fiery weekend, but a fire that stays — a prayer life begun at 12 still alive at 24, worship that does not fizzle out.
  • Paul shipwrecked on the island: cold, wet, and raining, he gathered sticks for a fire another man had started; a venomous viper came out of the heat and latched onto his hand, and he shook it off into the fire and felt no harm.
  • There is something greater than starting a fire: protecting a fire that has already been built. Deliverance takes a few moments; building a fire takes a process — Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, all week.
  • Offense, bitterness, pettiness, unforgiveness, anger, sin, and addiction will try to latch onto your spirit; we do not always choose what tries to come into our lives, but we choose what we hold on to and what we let go of.

Another Chance by Another Fire

  • God is not only the God of a second chance but of another chance — the preacher confesses he is already past his hundredth — and he allows Landon to get back up again, to ask forgiveness again, to come into his presence all over again.
  • Peter denied Jesus by a fire; Jesus built a fire on the shore and restored him by another fire, asking three times, 'Do you love me?' — the same number as the denials. The fire of his presence involves second chances, and fiftieth, and thousandth.
  • He invites the students to the front to pray together that God would renew the fire — praying against every viper and every element of culture that would suffocate what God has started in them.

Scripture index: 2 Timothy 1:6-7.

praise the Lord everyone prise the Lord how many of you are excited to be at school how many of you are excited to be at Chapel how many of you are excited to be a part of Code Orange Revival I am uh I I uh this is the kind of school I like if a school was just full of cold orange Revival then I think I could come back to school I've been so excited um to come and be with with you guys and uh to be in several Chapel Services and to be in Revival Services um I just can't tell you um the expectancy in my spirit and in my heart um for what the Lord uh Jesus would do these next few services and these next few days and I'm just anticipating God to do some really special things I um I uh I every weekend I find myself in an airport for I find myself in a hotel I find myself uh in an Uber and I had um I I was making my way back to Dallas which is home for me and um I had beg to calculate when I would land and I thought you know I have just enough time um to go pick up my car and I can make it to this really nice bougie Mediterranean place for dinner right before they Clos and when I get when I get uh when I get hungry and when I get hangry and I decide on a restaurant I get pretty stubborn and so I I decided you know what this this is what we're going to do so landed got the Uber made it all the way home and went to jump in my car and I'm I'm I'm about to have a really really nice dinner and there's only one problem I just I can't seem to find my car so I I uh I Circle the parking lot I'm looking around the apartment complex and I can't find my car anywhere and so I'm thinking I probably just parked it in a different place and uh I still can't find it so about the third time around I'm I'm like maybe this is spiritual warfare maybe the devil doesn't stole my car and I can't find my car and so as I'm looking and thinking and waiting I finally finally realized your boy had left his car at the airport now I want you to imagine with me in dramatic irony that I'm landed I'm at the airport I've got I've got my suitcase and I'm waiting on somebody else to take me when my car is right over there in the parking lot and my keys are in my pocket and so then I want you to imagine with me because I'm a preacher so we're going to make this story spiritual how many times we come to the house of God whether it be Code Orange Revival whether it be a Wednesday night whether it be a Sunday and how many times do we wait for somebody else to take us to a place spiritually right that we already have the keys to go ourselves I was already spying on some of you guys already creeping been watching you worship and I just would like to encourage us at the beginning of this revival you have the key in your hand right you get to decide where you go with Jesus this week you get to decide the spiritual trajectory of the next few days and the next few Services I love my buddies I love my friends I love my sisters and my brothers but I'm not going to wait on anybody else I'm going to make up in my mind that I have a key of praise and I have a key of worship and I have a key of faith and I'm going to make up in my mind that I'm thankful for the teachers and the musicians and the singers but we're we're going to decide for oursel that we have the key that we're going to go somewhere this week how many of you believe that I've really believed that we're going to go somewhere this week so I want to take your attention to the Bible second Timothy 1 and 6 2 Timothy 1 and6 I'm so grateful for this host church and for your pastoral team and for all of those uh that were responsible or irresponsible for letting me get to come and I just really am so excited it's going to be such a special few days second Timothy 1 2 Timothy 1 and verse 6 for this reason I remind you to Fan into Flame the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands for this reason I remind you to Fan into flames the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands for God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control amen for the next few moments I just want to speak to you I want to preach to you teach to you scream at you talk to you on just this simple thought FireKeepers FireKeepers can you say that out loud with me FireKeepers I want you to turn to your neighbor and tell them those words firek keepers I want you to turn to the other one the one you just rejected and I want you to tell them firek Keepers can we just close our eyes and can we just thank the Lord for speaking to us today Jesus I thank you so much for my old friends I thank you for all of those that I met last time I was here I thank you for all my new friends I thank you so much for my brothers and my sisters I'm so grateful for my church family all across the world I'm so grateful for my church family God that I get to be with here here in Knoxville Tennessee I thank you for speaking to us today God do something that only you can get credit for and we'll give you all the glory and we'll give you all the praise in Jesus name amen the Bible tells us about a am a man named Moses he was a Shepherd it was a a pretty ordinary regular job he just had to keep sheep in the backside of the Wilderness but the Bible says that during this really ordinary underwhelming job that something very extraordinary begin to happen the Bible says that as he is in the wilderness he's probably about to fall asleep he's not really having any fun he don't he doesn't have any video games to play he doesn't have any buddies uh to ball with it's just him and the Sheep but all of a sudden as he looks over he sees a bush that catches on fire now to us that seems seem really strange and abnormal especially in our North American 21st century context and lens but it's really hot out there y'all it's it it's it's really really hot it's so hot that it's not uncommon for a bush to come bust and to catch on fire but there's something different about this bush that is catching on fire the Bible lets us know that it is not consumed this is what that means that that means the bush catches on fire but it does not burn up normally when something catches on fire it it begins to wither it begins to smoke it begins to turn into ashes but but this this bush this this many tree is is not being consumed it is not burning up it is burning on and burning on and burning on it is not consumed and something in Moses says I I I've got foam I really need to know why this bush is not turning into ashes it's not withering away it's it's not phally it the fire is fervent the fire is robust the fire is is is quite fiery so as Moses begins to turn aside all of a sudden he realizes that that that heaven is at hand and God begins to speak to him out of this fiery Bush can I I just tell you it is the will of God for us to catch on fire it is the will of God for us to be passionate about him it is the will of God for us not to live this lame life just oozing through day to day just being another Pentecostal Apostolic popped on a Pew but God has a purpose for our life and God has dreams for our life and God has Destiny Upon Our Life life and and I'm just going to tell you right now that when the hand of Heaven gets on your life it it's not his will for you just to have a fiery moment or a fiery weekend or a fiery season but it is the will of God that when we catch on fire for him in a fervency of Prayer in fervency of worship in fervency of faith it is not the will of God that we turn into a mere Act or what used to be it's not the will of God that we we we are on fire for God one moment and then we fizzle out the next moment when the hand of God is upon a life it is an absolute reality that you can catch on fire and that you can stay on fire what do you mean I mean that when you develop a prayer life at 12 you can have that same prayer life at 24 I mean when you make up in your mind as a 16year old that you are going to be a worshipper in the front and you are going to give God exuberant demonstrative Radical Praise that even as a senior in high school uh you can still be that same worshipper uh that has not lost your passion and fervor for God what I mean is those prayers that you are praying at 5 and and 8 and 11 can lead into prayers that you are praying in 18 and 19 I'm telling you that spirituality that would baptize you in your youth at a young age could be the same spirituality that carries you into adulthood carries you into decision making carries you into your career and your calling I I just happen to believe that those that catch on fire can stay on fire but life is pretty cray cray sometimes life is pretty wild life life brings a lot of things into our mind and our heart and our spirit the Bible says that there was this really powerful guy his name was the Apostle Paul and the Bible lets us know that he is he is taking this journey by boat but all of a sudden he's in the middle of a storm all of a sudden the boat that he is in and the prisoners and the passengers that are with him they they crash upon a Rocky island and the let the Bible lets us know that they make it to the shore and and and it's cold it's it's wet it's raining uh it's it's it's it's it's the atmos the atmosphere is just right for hypothermia they they they they could freeze they they could die just from the from the rigid cold alone and so somebody says uh hey how how about we build a fire we don't just have to accept the climate uh we can change the the climate so I I think I think we're going to build a fire and the Bible says this man who was so powerful this man who was a mighty man of God said you know what I I'm not too powerful that I can't help add fuel to the fire the Bible says the great Apostle Paul begins to find some sticks and he begins to find some kindling and he decides that he's going to help stoke the fire he's going to help add to the fire and the Bible lets us know that when he does this that a venomous snake a Viper jumps out of the fire can I tell you that it is the will of God for you to be a fire starter if you if you're not praying during this revival if you're not really dedicated during this revival if you're not worshiping during this revival if you you don't have a love for Jesus during this revival then it is his will that you start loving him again and you start praying again again and you start worshiping again but but can I just tell you there there's something greater than starting a fire and that is protecting a fire that has already been built that is stoking a fire that has already began you want to know what hell is afraid of he is afraid of young men and young ladies boys and girls that have not only Built a fire but they are protecting that fire they are keeping that fire that's what Paul is doing in this moment somebody nameless but notable has already initiated this fire there they so we it's it's cold up in here we got to change the atmosphere and Paul says it's not just enough for the fire to be built it's got to be stoked it's got to continue and when he does a Viper jumps out of the Heat and latches on to the Apostle Paul so it is in our lives we start realizing that as we dedicate Our Lives to God as we surrender to his sovereignty as we say Jesus I trust you you can do with my life whatever you want to do in me I want to say yes to your purpose I want to say yes to your kingdom call we we realize that the adversary of our souls the devil will attack our mind and our spirit the older we get we realize that he's not going to wait until we're 30 he's not going to he's not going to wait until we're in college he he's going to attack your mind right here right now he's going to come against you with everything that that that that he has because he realized that that that that you're you're you're you're you're old enough to start your own fires you're you're old enough to build your own prayer life you're you're old enough to to have your own Consecration and your own dedication to God you see we come into God's house and we come into Chapel Services and we come into Revival services and and we can we can feel the heat from other people people's fire but at some point we have to take it personal at some point we have to build a fire of our own this is why because the Bible said that that snake jumped out and it it bit the Apostle Paul it latched onto his hand pretty cringy but you know what the Bible says next the Bible says that he shook it back off into the fire I'm going to say some things that may not resonate with everyone's mind in this room but I want to speak it into your spirit there are times in life that you're going to try to shake off an attack you're going to try to shake off a spirit into a fire that you haven't built yeah Deliverance only takes a few moments only takes a few seconds but Building A Fire takes a process it takes Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday hell is not afraid of a fire that is going to go back back to ashes going to go back to smoke hell is not afraid of a fire that's going to dwindle and become mere memories but hell is afraid of young men and young women that have made up in their mind I've got to bring the spark back I've got to bring the fire back I've got to protect it I cannot let the wind of life I cannot let the coldness of culture I cannot let the atmosphere the climate that is around me suffocate what God is doing at my church at my school in my youth group in my home in my young evolving culminating life right good so it is so it is that Bible says that Paul he he shook off he shook off that snake right back into the fire and it had no harm upon him I'm telling you the older that you get you're going to realize that there things in this world that are trying to latch on to your your spirit there's there's offense there's there's bitterness there's there's pettiness there's unforgiveness there's there's aner there's sin there's addiction there's a lot of things that Jesus does not want for our life that are going to try to come into our life and we don't always get to choose what tries to come into our life but we do get to choose what we hold on to and we do get to choose what we let go of and I'm preaching to your head your heart and to your your spirit this morning there's some young men and women in this room that they will make up their mind to let go of trauma and to let go of pain and to let go of attacks of the enemy because there will have been a fire that was built I pray to God somebody could look back at codor Revival and say that's when the fire almost went out that's when the fire almost died or maybe that's when I I resurrected that old fire and I started praising again and I started coming coming to God with all of my focus and all of my affection this is what I love about God he's a god of Second Chances but you know what I really love about our God he's the god of another chance I don't know about you but I um I I'm already past my second chance um I don't know about you but I've already passed up my third chance can I be real transparent with all of you can I confess to you um I've already I'm already pass my H hundredth chance but God is not just the god of Second Chances he's the god of another chance and he allows Landon to get back up again he allows Landon to ask forgiveness again he allows Landon to come into His presence all over again and say God I trust you God I need you God I cannot make I can't make it without you stand with me all across the room tell your buddy beside you tell your friend I I need the fire of God's presence turn to your other bu and tell them you need the fire of God's presence the Bible says that Jesus is on the shore you know what Jesus is doing Jesus is building a fire he's waiting on one of his disciples that has been failing him has been running from him he's waiting on on somebody that's made some mistakes and so it is that Jesus is building a fire and he's just simply waiting waiting for the moment that his disciple returns and comes back to him comes back into alignment comes back into his presence his vicinity it's proximity and so it is that all of a sudden the Bible says that eer makes his way to the shore and the Bible says that Jesus greets him and he's by a fire you know what's so amazing about this story is that Peter has failed Jesus pretty miserably he has betrayed him in a sense he has he has he has turned his back on him he has ignored him he has decided not to identify with him and you know when he did it he he did it by a fire there was a moment where Peter begin to compromise and he made some decisions that that weren't quite correct that weren't healthy for his life and he begins to compromise he begins to turn his back on Jesus but you know what Jesus does in his sovereignty and his overwhelming love and his Superior Grace and Mercy he allows Peter another Moment by another fire to be restored to him in love and in closeness and in relationship and Jesus says Peter I just need to know if you love me Peter says yes I do he says I need to know if you love me he says yes ask him a third time do you love me the answer is yes Peter had denied Jesus three times someone say three times three times Peter had failed Jesus he had ignored Jesus it'd be like you having a friend said I don't know you I don't know him I don't know her we we ain't besties we ain't BFFs I don't know who they are that's what Peter was doing to Jesus but you know what Jesus said I'm going to allow a fire of another change chance God always gives us another opportunity his presence is so powerful so Grand so marvelous that he allows us to come into His presence all over again there's something really significant about the fire of his presence it involves Second Chances right and 10th chances and 50th chances and 200th chances and a thousand chances and more chances and then another chance and anything that you and I have done have caused the fire of God's presence to dwindle to become suffocated to be just mere Ash and smoke God gives opportunities for us to to build a fire again for us to resurrect an old fire for us to Fan the flame for us to keep the fire for us to protect the fire you know what those opportunities look like cold orange Revival you know what those opportunities sound like it sounds like you in a sanctuary like this coming up to the front lifting up your hands and saying God I'm old enough to love you I'm old enough to worship you I'm old enough to praise you I'm old enough to hear your voice I'm old enough to encounter your presence right I'm old enough to have the supernatural in my life tomorrow I want to tell you some stories I want to tell you about my story I want to share with you tomorrow about some of my journey some moments that God spoke into my life as a pre-teen as a teenager the moment God filled me with his presence as a young kid I I want to I want to share some of those moments with you tomorrow but today I want us to make a decision for ourselves I want us to make a decision with our friends that this week we're going to let God renew that fire we're going to Fan those Flames because I'm telling you in this room is so much potential in this room is so much possibility in this room is so much oxygen and life and vitality and vibrancy in this room the hand of Heaven is on every singular soul and I just want to speak it I want to preach it I want to prophesy it that young men and young women in this room that catch on fire can stay on Fire doesn't have to be seasonal I I don't I I don't want it to be said in my life he loved God when he was a pre-teen he he loved God when he was a kid he he Lov God when when he was a young adult I wanted to be said of me in my life that what God did in him at 6 continued at seven and an eight at nine and when what God was doing in his life 13 God kept on doing it 15 right and what God was doing then God kept doing some more things that's what I want to be said on my life and your life so I want to invite you to the front can you come to the front can you step out from where you are and can you come as close as you can I've already beat you up here we're getting ready to pray together all of you look so awesome you look so great so proud of you guys proud of you you know that I want everybody to come as close as they can come as close as they can thank you come as close as you can this is what I want us to do I want us to pray together now some of you are squishing your friends don't squish your friends but we're getting ready to pray together this is what I want us to do I want us to pray that God would renew something in our heart that would burn bright for him yes for some of you that's calling for some of you that's giftings for some of you that's the love of Jesus to be given and to be received for everybody in this room that means perhaps something a little different but I want us to pray it collectively and individually and if you have the spirit of God on the inside of you I want you to know it's okay to let that out right it's okay to let the presence of God God overflow out of you yes and if you've never had the experience of God's presence coming on the inside of your heart you've never spoken in tongues I just want to tell you before today is over before tomorrow is over before this week is over I just happen to believe that God's going to pour out his Spirit on young men and young women that are hungry for that fire so I wonder if we could raise our hands now some of you want to stretch right now so if you want to stretch stretch but we're not going to raise our hands to stretch we're going to raise our hands in worship can we raise our hands as high as we can oh yes we're going to raise our hands we're going to close our eyes oh yes and I want us to talk to Jesus our buddies are beside us our friends are beside us but I want us to close our eyes right now individually yet together I want us just to talk to Jesus can we do that I want you to pray with me but you can listen in on my prayer if you need a little help all right our hands lifted our eyes closed Jesus I thank you for your presence I thank you for your love I thank you for my friends that surround me I thank you for not only my physical family but my spiritual family God I thank you for my teachers God I I thank you for my adult leaders that I can look up to God today today God in the first Chapel service of codor Revival God I'm opening my heart to you I may not understand it all I may not have it all figured out but God I I want to be single student I pray against every Viper every spirit that would try to latch on to their human spirit I pray against every element of our culture that would try to suffocate and drown out the fire that has been born inside of them I pray even right now before it resonates with their head I pray it would resonate in their heart I pray that something would begin to burn again I pray that an old spark God would receive oxygen in life I pray God that what you have already initiated in them oh God would be fanned into greater Flames I pray right now in the name name of Jesus I pray Miracle moments I pray Divine opportunities I pray the supernatural to be made manifest I feel the presence of the Lord in this room right now I wonder if all across this room you would just begin to talk to Jesus in your own way would you do that would you just wave your hands would you just talk to Jesus right now if you feel to pray with a friend you can pray with a friend but for just another moment I want us to remove every distraction I want us to focus our attention on Jesus I want us to make him the object the object of our Focus right now Jesus I'm casting every Care at your feet I'm
