Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
The text: the finger of God
- Jesus answers the charge that he casts out devils by Beelzebub: a kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and Satan's kingdom cannot stand divided.
- The text: if Jesus with the finger of God casts out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God has come upon them.
- The expression 'the finger of God' is found only four times in the Bible, three of them in the Old Testament.
- When the dust turned to lice and the magicians could not do the same, they told Pharaoh, 'This is the finger of God.'
- Moses brought down from Sinai two tables of testimony, tables of stone written with the finger of God.
Scriptures: Luke 11:20; Exodus 8:19; Exodus 31:18; Deuteronomy 9:10
The catalogue: who Jesus is
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God; and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among men, full of grace and truth.
- As Mary's son he grew hungry, slept in the ship, thirsted, wept at a graveside and died on a cross; as God he fed thousands, stilled the storm, called Lazarus out and rose again.
- All must stand before him for judgment; he is the believer's advocate with the Father.
- He is the Lamb of God and the Lion of the tribe of Judah at once; the son of righteousness with healing in his wings; the bright and morning star.
- He will reign forever, he knows everything, he has all power, and he is Lord of all.
- 'Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up' — he spoke of the temple of his body.
Scriptures: John 1:1; John 1:14; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 John 2:1; Revelation 5:8; Revelation 5:5; Malachi 4:2; Revelation 22:16; Hebrews 1:8; John 21:17; Hebrews 1:3; Colossians 2:10; Acts 10:36; John 2:19-21
He has declared him
- No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
- Philip asked to be shown the Father, and Jesus answered: he that has seen me has seen the Father.
- 'I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another' — Jesus was not another; he was God.
Scriptures: John 1:18; John 14:8-9; Isaiah 42:8
Not three, but one
- Is there a God beside me? There is no God; I know not any. Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord.
- I am the Lord that makes all things, that stretches forth the heavens alone and spreads abroad the earth by myself.
- By Christ were all things created that are in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible; he is before all things, and by him all things consist; he is the head of the body, the church.
- In him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and ye are complete in him.
- The three-chairs illustration: set the chairs side by side and you see three, but stack them into one seat — the Godhead is not in them; it is all in him.
Scriptures: Isaiah 44:8; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 44:24; Colossians 1:15-19; Colossians 2:9
One on the throne, one saving name
- Revelation's throne scenes speak of him that sat on the throne — one throne, never three; the four and twenty elders fall down before him that lives forever and ever.
- From the throne he says, 'Behold, I make all things new,' and 'It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.'
- If the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he will quicken your mortal bodies.
- Neither is there salvation in any other: there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
- The appeal: if you have not been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, what are you waiting for?

in luke 11 and 20. listen to it jesus said but if i with the finger of god cast out devils no doubt the kingdom of god has come upon you if i with the finger of god that's something i with the finger of god the finger on the body of jesus christ was god's finger if i with the finger of god cast out devils then no doubt the kingdom of god is come upon you can you say god bless the word today thank you you may be seated the lord was confronted here by his critics his enemies because he had cast out a demon and here they got together and started criticizing what had taken place and said well it's by the prince of demons by beelzebub that the chief of demons that's that's that's what he's done that's he's the chief if you will among the demonic forces but the lord said to them in in response every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation a house divided against its uh against a house falleth and if satan be divided against himself then how shall his kingdom stand and if if by beals above if i by beelzebub cast out devils by whom do your sons cast them out and then to slap him up beside the head he says if i by the finger of god cast out devils if i'm by the finger of god cast that devils then don't you know that the kingdom of god has come to you the kingdom of god god is the king of the kingdom of god so you see what he's saying the kingdom of god has come down to you and that's what you are witnessing the finger of god if i by the finger of god now this expression finger of that's what stirred my interest through the years and i've never ever spent any length of time on this verse so i've saved it for maryville the finger the finger of god has he has cast out these demons and the kingdom of god is the finger of god has cast out these demons and the kingdom of god is come upon you right here now in studying the scriptures i found something of interest the word or the expression finger of god is only found four times in the bible but it is found four times three times in the old testament and then this place in luke chapter 11 and verse 20 and it's interesting to me to find where they are found the expression is found in the old testament first of all in the book of exodus chapter 8 and verse 19 moses had stretched out that rod and turned the water to blood and the magician said hmm we can do that so they did it moses held out the rod and here come a bunch of frogs hopping up out of the out of the land into the houses and needing troughs and the magician said we can do that so moses held out the rod and again and touched the dust they turned the lights the dust turns to lice the magicians said we can do that but they couldn't they tried but they couldn't they came to pharaoh and said to pharaoh pharaoh this is the finger of god not a god but the god not one of our many gods but the finger of god moses god moses god and then another place is found in exodus 31 and 18. when moses had been upon sinai there with god for 40 days and 40 nights and you know what he brought down in his arms those two tablets and the bible says he gave unto moses when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount sinai two tables of testimony tables of stone written with the finger of god my mind and then in deuteronomy 9 and verse 10 is moses relating again what took place as recorded in chapter 31 of exodus the lord delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of god so these are the only places that are the expression is found in the word of god but again god's finger inscribed a law that would govern the people of israel this particular and unique race of people for their existence for out forever if you will by the finger of god god brought the kingdom of his kingdom to this earth and he says it's by his finger that we cast out demons by his finger the word of god is proclaimed and miracles are performed god is king the bible says john 1 1 in the beginning was the word the word was with god the word was god the same as was in the beginning with god verse 14 the word was manifest in the flesh and dwelt tabernacled among us and we beheld his glory as the glory the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth jesus was god coming down to earth to whom man back up to himself again jesus jesus jesus now he was god but he was man he was human and yet he was divine deity welded together united together if you will in harmony with the eternal plan of god as mary's son he obviously grew hungry because he's human but as god the son of god he multiplied loaves and fish and fed the thousands as mary's son you find him in the inner part of the ship asleep during that stormy night but as god himself he walked out to the bow that ship and said wind and wave shut up or somebody put it long ago he said to those hound dogs shut up get back under the porch cease and they ceased it ceased as mary's son he was he was thirsty and asked for a drink as god the son of god he said i am the living water if you believe on me as the scripture has said out of your belly will flow rivers of living water humanity welt at the gravesite of his friend lazarus deity god said lazarus come out hallelujah i'm talking about jesus who has come down to this earth as god wrapped in flesh to bring salvation to us as humanity as mary's son he died on a roman cross but as the lord god of glory he rose from that grave two three days and three nights later and he ever lives now as king of kings and lord of lords according to second corinthians 5 and 10 we're all going to stand before him for judgment the church i'm talking about in first john chapter 2 verse 1 john said he's our advocate got a problem he can solve it according to revelation 5 and verse 8 he's the lamb of god that taketh away the sins of the world according to revelation 5 and 5 he's the line of the tribe of judah now put them together if you will a lamb and a lime a lamb and a lime on the cross he was lamb from the groove the tomb he's a lion conquering death hell and the grave malachi 4 and 2 says he's the son of righteousness and he's going to come with healing in his wings in revelation 22 16 god john said he is the bright and the morning star his name is jesus according to hebrews 1 and 8 he's going to reign forever according to john 21 and 17 he knows everything according to hebrews 1 3 he has all power according to colossians 2 and verse 10 he has all authority according to acts chapter 10 and verse 36 he is lord of all according to john chapter 2 verses 19 20 and 21 jesus said destroy this temple and in three days i will raise it up he who manifested the miracles before the eyes of pharaoh and of egypt was god he who with his own finger etched the commandments and the word into the stone that would govern the people of israel forever was god and that same god many years later thousands of years later or over a thousand years later spat on the ground one day with his fingers stirred up the mud put him on the eyes of a blind man and said go wash and he came back seeing same god same fingers and one day while somebody was standing choosing stones because he's getting ready to to stone an adulteress he reached down stoop down and began to ride on the sand i don't know what he wrote probably their sins i don't know but anyway he wrote on the side and said you that's without sin you cast the first stone you know the story but he rode in the sand that day same god same god jesus was god walking among his own creation again let me repeat myself jesus was god coming down to bring us woo us back up to himself again so we in eternity may enjoy and experience the fellowship that was known and experienced in the garden in the beginning what a day that's going to be i like i like the words let me share a little quote from james hastings on this scripture of luke 2 11 and 20. hastings wrote but the metaphor used by our savior in the text is rare even to the old testament and solitary in the new it bears testimony to the intense conviction on the part of the chosen people of the existence and attributes of one personal and individual god um no man this is the way that john put it john 1 18 you know the verse no man has seen god at any time no man the only begotten son which is in the bosom of the father the eternal plan and will of god notice it said he hath declared him he hath declared him mr robertson the noted greek scholar said concerning this expression declared him this word fitly closes the prologue in which the logos is pictured in marvelous fashion as the word of god in human flesh the son of god with the glory of god in him showing men who god is and what he is he hath declared him he have declared him in john 14 verses 8 and 9 jesus said to philip philip you said show us the father and we be satisfied have i not been with you such a long time and you still don't know who i am when you have seen me you have seen the father and yet you say show us the father isaiah 42 8 i am the lord that is my name and my glory my glory will i not give to another now that is interesting i am the lord that's my name and my glory i won't give to another but yet again down there in john chapter 1 and verse 14 it says the word was manifest in the flesh and dwelt tabernacled among us and we beheld his glory whose glory fact verse 1 in the beginning was the word the word was with god the word was god god said i won't give my glory to another jesus was not another i said jesus was not another he was god i won't give my glory to another hallelujah and he didn't jesus is not the second person he's the only one amen amen do do those chairs stack could i have three of them let me if i got time just lay them out here instead of my it might cause a lot of trouble okay i don't like to cause too much trouble don't mind by making some but not too much no no no no no side by side but yeah yeah yeah amen young man you did such good will you sit in the middle no that this this for we need a illustration i guess here show and tell this is the holy trinity boy like your socks my goodness this this is the holy trinity you recognize it don't you this is god the father and this is god the son and this is the god the holy spirit do you see god the father how come he's a spirit uh-huh do you see god the holy spirit one he's a spirit do you see god the son now that's the wrong kind of term there's no such bible term for god the son do you see the son of god do you see the son who who is god no you see him don't you no no no now stand up son now will you stack these chairs please one two three now will you sit there that's the godhead that's the godhead not three one not three one it's all in him not in them it's all in him thank you my glory i won't give to another he didn't he brought his glory wrapped it in flesh and with his finger healed and cast out demons isaiah 44 8 is there god beside but yeah there is no god i don't know any the great shama of israel deuteronomy 6 and 4 you can quote it hear o israel the lord our god is the lord our god is isaiah 44 24 i am the lord that maketh all things that stretches forth the heavens alone that spire that brought the earth by my self amen paul boley said in colossians 1 who is the image speaking of jesus of the invisible god the firstborn of every creature for by him were all things created that are in heaven that are in earth visible invisible whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers all things are created by him and for him he is before all things and by him all things consist he is the head of the body the church who is the beginning of the the firstborn from the dead that in all things he might have the preeminence for it please for it please the father it please the father that in him should all fullness dwell amen all fullness now has to clench the nail off over as he driven it through in chapter 2 verse 9 that familiar verse he says for in him not them for in him dwelleth the fullness of the godhead bodily and to emphasize it that much more the next verse he says you are complete in him complete in the father complete and the son complete in the holy spirit don't get all confused here in your mind messed up just say him you don't have to say i'm in the father you are if you're in jesus christ am i in the spirit you are if you're in jesus christ if you're water baptized in the name of jesus christ and fill with god's holy spirit you're in him if you want to read about god and the godhead you never read them it's him him revelation 5 1 and the right hand of him that sat on the throne revelation 6 and 16 they said to the mountains of rocks fall on us and hide us from him that setteth on the throne in revelation 20 and verse 11 i saw a great white throne and him that sat on it revelation 21-5 he that sat upon the throne said behold i make all things new and then verse six he said and he said unto me it is done i am alpha and omega the beginning and the end in that great wonderful tomorrow when we stand before the throne of thrones and worship the king of kings we will be looking upon the face of one that's sitting on that throne not three thrones never any reference to three thrones amen but dethrone a throne and we'll worship him listen to how john describes it in chapter 4 of revelation in verse 10. the four and 20 elders fall down before him that sat on the throne and worshiped him that liveth forever and ever and cast their crowns before the throne jesus jesus jesus it is his it is his virtue that heals us it is his love that embraces us it is his name that remits sin for my record it is his spirit hallelujah that not only feels us now but as paul said in romans chapter 8 and verse 11 if the spirit that raised christ and the dead dwelled in you then he that raised christ from the dead shall also quicken make alive your mortal body when the trump of god sounds every jesus name baptized holy spirit-filled individual is going to have a an instant change that's going to take place whether they're in the grave or worshiping in church like this we're going to lay aside these oil garments of flesh and be changed instantly to rise hallelujah you must have the holy ghost you must be baptized in the name of jesus there is no other name none other name acts 4 12 under heaven given among me and whereby we must be saved jesus jesus jesus if you have not denied if you have not been baptized in the name of jesus christ what are you waiting for there could be no greater honor than to be identified with the one who died for you on calvary by being baptized in his name
